Abstract
Intrauterine adhesion (IUA), a major cause of uterine infertility, is pathologically characterized by endometrial fibrosis. Current treatments for IUA have poor efficacy with high recurrence rate, and restoring uterine functions is difficult. We aimed to determine the therapeutic efficacy of photobiomodulation (PBM) therapy on IUA and elucidate its underlying mechanisms. A rat IUA model was established via mechanical injury, and PBM was applied intrauterinely. The uterine structure and function were evaluated using ultrasonography, histology, and fertility tests. PBM therapy induced a thicker, more intact, and less fibrotic endometrium. PBM also partly recovered endometrial receptivity and fertility in IUA rats. A cellular fibrosis model was then established with human endometrial stromal cells (ESCs) cultured in the presence of TGF-β1. PBM alleviated TGF-β1-induced fibrosis and triggered cAMP/PKA/CREB signaling in ESCs. Pretreatment with the inhibitors targeting this pathway weakened PBM's protective efficacy in the IUA rats and ESCs. Therefore, we conclude that PBM improved endometrial fibrosis and fertility via activating cAMP/PKA/CREB signaling in IUA uterus. This study sheds more lights on the efficacy of PBM as a potential treatment for IUA.

Abstract
Pressure ulcers often become chronic wounds that are difficult to treat and that tend to recur after healing. In China, convincing data from randomised trials have demonstrated that the pharmaceutical preparations of Periplaneta americana (KangFuXin Liquid, KFX) have a significant efficacy for pressure ulcers. To provide more reference to the clinicians and experts, we conducted a meta-analysis based on the existing randomised controlled trials (RCTs). We searched the RCTs about KFX for the treatment of pressure ulcers published up to July 2022 in major English and Chinese databases with no language restriction, including PubMed, EMBASE, Web of Science (WOS), Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials (CENTRAL), China Network Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Chinese Biomedicine (CBM), Chinese Scientific Journals Database (VIP), and WanFang database. Cochrane Handbook guidelines were used to assess the risk of bias and to evaluate the methodological quality of included RCTs. Estimates of the intervention's effects are expressed as the risk ratio (RR) (95% CI) for binary outcomes and mean difference or standardised mean difference (95% CI) for continuous outcomes. We applied fixed or random effects models, and all analyses were performed using Review Manager version 5.4 and Stata/SE version 12.0. We included 22 studies with a total of 1575 participants. Compared with controls, KFX combined with basic wound care or KFX combined with basic wound care and another topical drug or physical treatment significantly increase clinical efficacy (RR: 1.17; 95% CI, 1.06-1.28; P = 0.001; I2 = 81%) and shorten the complete healing time (MD = -5.11; 95% CI [-8.19, -2.02]; P = 0.001) for pressure ulcers. Subgroup analysis showed a significant difference in the total clinical effect rate between KFX combined with basic wound care and controls. (n = 1018, RR 1.21, 95% CI [1.07, 1.36], I2 = 82%, P = 0.003). No difference was found in the total clinical effective rate between patients using KFX combined with basic wound care and another topical drug or physical treatment with controls (KFX combined with basic wound care and topical physical treatment: n = 267, RR 1.15, 95% CI [0.86, 1.52], I2 = 87%, P = 0.34; KFX combined with basic wound care and topical drug: n = 290, RR 1.05, 95% CI [0.80, 1.37], I2 = 86%, P = 0.71). Based on treatment duration, subgroup analysis indicated that increasing treatment duration increased the total clinical effective rate when treatment duration was not long. (treatment duration: 14 days: n = 158, OR 5.48, 95% CI [1.47, 20.43], I2 = 0%, P = 0.01; 21 days: n = 132, OR 5.93, 95% CI [1.86, 18.91], I2 = 65%, P = 0.003). When treatment duration was 28 days or 30 days, the results showed that there was no significant difference in total clinical effective rate between interventions and controls (treatment duration: 28 days: n = 107, OR 3.04, 95% CI [0.25, 37.32], I2 = 50%, P = 0.38; 30 days: n = 256, OR 0.58, 95% CI [0.11, 3.15], I2 = 65%, P = 0.53). No data on side effects were reported in any of the 22 studies. The conclusion is that the combination of KFX and basic wound care is effective in increasing the total clinical effectiveness and shortening the complete healing time of pressure ulcers.

Abstract
The effects of low-level laser therapy (LLLT) on tumor growth are inconsistent. In this study, we investigated the effects of LLLT on melanoma tumor growth and angiogenesis. C57/BL6 mice were challenged with B16F10 melanoma cells and treated with LLLT for 5 consecutive days; untreated mice were used as controls. Tumor weight, angiogenesis, immunohistochemistry, and protein levels were compared between the treated and untreated mice. In an in vitro experiment, B16F10 cells were treated with LLLT. Proteins were extracted and subjected to Western blot analysis for analyzing signaling pathways. Compared with the findings in the untreated mice, tumor weight substantially increased in the treated mice. Both immunohistochemical and Western blot analyses revealed markedly increased levels of CD31, a biomarker of vascular differentiation, in the LLLT group. In B16F10 cells, LLLT considerably induced the phosphorylation of extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK), which, in turn, phosphorylated p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK). Furthermore, LLLT induced the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor, but not hypoxia-inducible factor-1α, through the ERK/p38 MAKP signaling pathways. Our findings indicate that LLLT induces melanoma tumor growth by promoting angiogenesis. Therefore, it should be avoided in patients with melanoma.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To determine the effect of cluster nursing on pressure ulcer prevention and comfort of orthopedic patients. METHODS A total of 124 orthopedic inpatients admitted to the Seventh Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University from July 2018 to June 2021 were retrospectively analyzed. Among them, 66 cases received cluster nursing who were assigned into the observation group and the other 58 cases received routine nursing and were assigned into the control group. The incidence of pressure ulcers, the degree of pressure the ulcer, quality of life-brief (QOL-BREF), self-rating anxiety scale (SAS), and self-rating depression scale (SDS) scores of the two groups at 7 days after surgery were compared, and the comfort score and nursing satisfaction of the two groups were evaluated and compared. The expression and predictive value of serum interleukin-6 (IL-6) and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) in patients with pressure ulcers before operation were analyzed via enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The levels of IL-6 and TNF-α were compared between the two groups before and after nursing. RESULTS After nursing, the observation group had significantly lower IL-6, TNF-α, SAS score, and SDS scores than the control group, and showed significantly higher QOL-BREF score, nursing satisfaction and comfort scores than the control group. In addition, the observation group showed a significantly lower incidence of pressure ulcers and a significantly lower severity level than the control group after nursing. Patients with pressure ulcers showed significantly higher serum IL-6 and TNF-α levels before surgery, and receiver operating characteristic curve (ROC) showed that IL-6 and TNF-α had certain value in forecasting the occurrence of pressure ulcers. CONCLUSION Cluster nursing can substantially lower the incidence of pressure ulcers in hospitalized orthopedic patients and improve their comfort.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE to investigate the effect of using different agents (topical hyaluronidase, photobiomodulation, and the association of photobiomodulation with topical hyaluronidase) in preventing the formation of lesions caused by doxorubicin extravasation, as well as in the reduction of lesions formed by extravasation of this drug. METHOD a quasi-experimental study conducted with 60 Wistar rats, randomized into four groups with 15 animals each. Group 1 (Control); Group 2 (Hyaluronidase); Group 3 (Photobiomodulation); and Group 4 (Hyaluronidase + Photobiomodulation). A wound was induced by applying 1 mg of doxorubicin to the subcutaneous tissue of the back of the animals. The concentration of topical hyaluronidase was 65 turbidity units/g and the energy employed was 1 joule of 100 mW red laser per square centimeter. With macroscopic evaluation every two days for 28 days, the following variables were observed: skin integrity, presence of blisters, hyperemia, exudate, bleeding, edema, crust, peeling and granulation tissue. RESULTS the animals from the groups subjected to photobiomodulation obtained better results in the assessment of the following variables: bleeding, hyperemia, exudate, intact skin and edema. CONCLUSION it was evidenced that the association of photobiomodulation with topical hyaluronidase was effective in reducing the local effects and assisted in the wound healing process, and that PBM alone was able to prevent appearance of lesions.

Abstract
The main objectives of the study were to explore whether laser Photobiomodulation (PBM) in addition to traditional dressing of hard-to-heal venous leg ulcer, reduced healing time of the ulcer and if the duration of the ulcer before PBM impacted the treatment time with PBM to healing. The intervention group was frail, elderly patients with home healthcare in the municipality of Skellefteå, registered in the Swedish quality registry RiksSar for ulcer treatment with hard-to-heal venous leg ulcer. The control group with equivalent physical conditions was obtained from the same quality registry. Definition of hard-to-heal ulcer was six weeks duration or more. The PBM was performed two times per week with laser type infrared GaAs, 904nm, 60mW, and 700Hz, targeting lymphatic area and ulcer area. Laser type red visible, GaAllnp, 635nm, 75mW and 250Hz, targeting ulcer area. The intervention group treated with PBM in addition to traditional dressing healed significantly faster than the control group with a mean of 123 days (p = 0.0001). Duration of the ulcer before PBM did not impact the healing time. To conclude, the findings indicate that using PBM in addition to dressing may have multiple benefits on hard-to-heal venous leg ulcer, saving valuable time and resources for patients, healthcare providers, and institutions.

Abstract
Low-level laser therapy (LLLT) has become an important part of the therapeutic process in various diseases. However, despite the broad use of LLLT in everyday clinical practice, the full impact of LLLT on cell life processes has not been fully understood. This paper presents the current state of knowledge concerning the mechanisms of action of LLLT on cells. A better understanding of the molecular processes occurring within the cell after laser irradiation may result in introducing numerous novel clinical applications of LLLT and potentially increases the safety profile of this therapy.

Abstract
Introduction: Treatment of chronic wounds is an urgent worldwide problem for medicine. Among the many efforts in wound healing techniques, photobiomodulation therapy has shown promising results.
Aim: To study the effect of photobiomodulation therapy on optimisation of the regulation of reparative processes in chronic wounds by cytokines (through the example of interleukin-1β, tumour necrosis factor-alpha, interleukin-6, interleukin-4, interleukin-10, and granulocyte macrophage colony stimulating factor).
Materials and methods: The study involved 12 Wistar rats. A trophic wound was modelled in the animals. After the operation, the animals were divided into two groups of 6 animals each. The wound defects of animals in the experimental group were exposed to low-intensity laser radiation. Photobiomodulation therapy was applied once a day for 5 days, starting the day after wound modelling. The device Lika-therapist M (Ukraine) was used in a continuous mode at a wavelength of 660 nm, an output power of 50 mW, and an energy density of 1 J/cm², and 60 s exposure time.
Results: The study showed the following changes in the expression of intercellular mediators in the blood serum of animals with chronic wounds when using photobiomodulation therapy: a decrease in the levels of interleukin-1β (p>0.05) and tumour necrosis factor-alpha (p<0.05); increased concentrations of interleukin-4 (p<0.05); the concentrations of interleukin-6, granulocyte macrophage colony stimulating factor, and interleukin-10 were not significantly changed. The histological study showed better organization of collagen fibers in the experimental group.
Conclusions: Photobiomodulation therapy can be an instrument for optimizing the reparative process by correcting the regulation by intercellular mediators.

Resumen Objetivo: investigar el efecto del uso de diferentes agentes (hialuronidasa tópica, fotobiomodulación y la combinación de fotobiomodulación y hialuronidasa tópica) en la prevención de la formación de lesiones causadas por la extravasación de doxorrubicina y en la reducción de las lesiones formadas por la extravasación de ese fármaco. Método: estudio experimental con 60 ratas Wistar, distribuidos aleatoriamente en cuatro grupos de 15 animales. Grupo 1 (Control); Grupo 2 (Hialuronidasa); Grupo 3 (Fotobiomodulación) y Grupo 4 (Hialuronidasa + Fotobiomodulación). La herida se indujo aplicando 1 mg de doxorrubicina por vía subcutánea en el lomo de los animales. La concentración de hialuronidasa tópica fue de 65 unidades de turbidez/g, la energía utilizada fue de 1 joule de láser rojo de 100 mW por centímetro cuadrado. En la evaluación macroscópica cada dos días durante 28 días se observaron las siguientes variables: piel intacta, presencia de flictena, hiperemia, exudado, sangrado, edema, costra, descamación y tejido de granulación. Resultados: los animales de los grupos con fotobiomodulación obtuvieron mejores resultados en la evaluación de las variables: sangrado, hiperemia, exudado, piel intacta y edema. Conclusión: se demostró que la combinación de fotobiomodulación y hialuronidasa tópica fue eficaz para reducir los efectos locales y ayudó en el proceso de cicatrización de heridas y que la FBM por sí sola previno la aparición de lesiones.

A concentração da hialuronidase tópica foi de 65 unidades de turbidez/g, a energia empregada foi de 1 joule de laser vermelho 100 mW por centímetro quadrado. Com avaliação macroscópica a cada dois dias por 28 dias, observou-se as variáveis: integridade da pele, presença de flictema, hiperemia, exsudato, sangramento, edema, crosta, descamação e tecido de granulação. Resultados: os animais dos grupos com fotobiomodulação obtiveram melhores resultados na avaliação das variáveis: sangramento, hiperemia, exsudato, pele íntegra e edema. Conclusão: evidenciou-se que a associação da fotobiomodulação com a hialuronidase tópica foi eficaz na diminuição dos efeitos locais e auxiliou no processo de cicatrização da ferida e que a FBM isolada foi capaz de prevenir o aparecimento de lesões.

Abstract
Background Photobiomodulation with low-intensity laser (LIL) and chondroitinase ABC (ChABC) can repair damaged muscle tissue, so the aim of this study was to investigate the effect of co-administration of these two factors on anal sphincter repair in rabbits. Methods Male rabbits were studied in 5 groups (n = 7): Control (intact), sphincterotomy, laser, ChABC and laser + ChABC. 90 days after intervention were evaluated resting and maximum squeeze pressures, number of motor units, collagen amount, markers of muscle regeneration and angiogenesis. Results Resting pressure in the Laser + ChABC group was higher than the sphincterotomy, laser and ChABC groups (p < 0.0001). Maximum squeeze pressure in the all study groups was higher than sphincterotomy group (p < 0.0001). In the laser + ChABC and ChABC groups, motor unit numbers were more than the sphincterotomy group (p < 0.0001). Collagen content was significantly decreased in the laser (p < 0.0001) and laser + ChABC groups. ACTA1 (p = 0.001) and MHC (p < 0.0001) gene expression in the Laser + ChABC group were more than the laser or ChABC alone. VEGFA (p = 0.009) and Ki67 mRNA expression (p = 0.01) in the Laser + ChABC group were more than the laser group, But vimentin mRNA expression (p < 0.0001) was less than the laser group. Conclusion Co-administration of ChABCs and photobiomodulation with LIL appears to improve the tissue structure and function of the anal sphincter in rabbits more than when used alone. Abstract
Photobiomodulation (PBM) imparts therapeutically significant benefits in the healing of chronic wounds. Chronic wounds develop when the stages of wound healing fail to progress in a timely and orderly frame, and without an established functional and structural outcome. Therapeutic benefits associated with PBM include augmenting tissue regeneration and repair, mitigating inflammation, relieving pain, and reducing oxidative stress. PBM stimulates the mitochondria, resulting in an increase in adenosine triphosphate (ATP) production and the downstream release of growth factors. The binding of growth factors to cell surface receptors induces signalling pathways that transmit signals to the nucleus for the transcription of genes for increased cellular proliferation, viability, and migration in numerous cell types, including stem cells and fibroblasts. Over the past few years, significant advances have been made in understanding how PBM regulates numerous signalling pathways implicated in chronic wound repair. This review highlights the significant role of PBM in the activation of several cell signalling pathways involved in wound healing.

Abstract
Skin wounds represent a burden in healthcare. Our aim was to investigate for the first time the effects of defocused high-power diode laser (DHPL) on skin healing in an animal experimental model and compare it with gold standard low-level laser therapy. Male Wistar rats were divided into 5 groups: Negative control; Sham; 0.1 W laser (L0.1 W); DHPL Dual 1 W (DHPLD1 W); and DHPL Dual 2 W (DHPLD2 W). Rats were euthanized on days 3, 5, 10, 14 and 21. Clinical, morphological, PicroSirus, oxidative stress (MDA, SOD and GSH) and cytokines (IL-1β, IL-10 and TNF-α) analyses were performed. A faster clinical repair was observed in all laser groups at D10 and D14. DHPLD1 W exhibited lower inflammation and better reepithelization compared to other groups at D10. DHPL protocols modulated oxidative stress by decreasing MDA and increasing SOD and GSH. Collagen maturation was triggered by all protocols tested and L0.1 W modulated cytokines release (IL-1β and TNF-α) at D3. In conclusion, DHPL, especially DHPL1 W protocol, accelerated skin healing by triggering reepithelization and collagen maturation and modulating inflammation and oxidative stress.

Abstract
Objective: To assess whether photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT) induces angiogenesis in diabetic mice with hindlimb ischemia (HLI). Background: Patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) are at high risk of developing peripheral arterial disease (PAD) in the lower extremities. PBMT has been shown to promote angiogenesis both in vitro and in vivo and could be a treatment for DM patients with PAD. Methods: Femoral artery ligation/excision in mice was performed to induce HLI as an animal model of PAD. PBMT at a dose of 660 nm and 1.91 J/cm2 was delivered for 10 min on 5 consecutive days after the HLI surgery. Control mice received HLI only. Mice in the DM group were injected with streptozocin to induce diabetes before HLI surgery. Mice in the laser and DM+ laser groups received both HLI and PBMT, and the latter group had induced DM. After the laser treatment, lower limb blood flow was evaluated by laser Doppler. The capillary density and CD31 were analyzed by immunofluorescence staining, and protein levels of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)-A, hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α), inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS), and extracellular signal-regulated kinases (ERK) were measured by Western blotting of tissue samples. Results: Compared with the control and DM mice, the laser and DM+ laser groups had more than double the capillary density and blood perfusion rate. Levels of CD31 and VEGF-A proteins in groups that received laser were increased by 1.9- to 3.2-fold compared with groups that did not undergo laser treatment. Animals treated with PBMT exhibited significantly increased HIF-1α expression and ERK phosphorylation compared with animals that did not receive this treatment, and the amount of phospho-eNOS and iNOS increased and decreased, respectively. Conclusions: PBMT can induce therapeutic angiogenesis, indicating that low intensity laser could be a novel treatment for PAD patients.

FGF2 and EGF for the Regeneration of Tympanic Membrane: A Systematic Review. Stem Cells Int 2021; 2021:2366291. Abstract
Objective A systematic review was conducted to compare the effectiveness and safety of fibroblast growth factor-2 (FGF2) and epidermal growth factor (EGF) for regeneration of the tympanic membrane (TM). Methods The PubMed database was searched for relevant studies. Experimental and clinical studies reporting acute and chronic TM perforations in relation to two healing outcomes (success rate and closure time) and complications were selected. Results A total of 47 studies were included. Five experimental studies showed closure rates of 55%-100% with FGF2 compared with 10%-62.5% in controls for acute perforations. Five experimental studies showed closure rates of 30.3%-100% with EGF and 3.6%-41% in controls for chronic perforations. Two experimental studies showed closure rates of 31.6% or 85.7% with FGF2 and 15.8% or 100% with EGF. Nine clinical studies of acute large perforations showed closure rates of 91.4%-100% with FGF2 or EGF. Two clinical studies showed similar closure rates between groups treated with FGF2 and EGF. Seven clinical studies showed closure rates of 88.9%-100% within 3 months and 58%-66% within 12 months using FGF2 in repair of chronic perforations, but only one study showed a significantly higher closure rate in the saline group compared with the FGF2 group (71.4% vs. 57.5%, respectively, P = 0.547). In addition, three experimental studies showed no ototoxicity associated with FGF2 or EGF. No middle ear cholesteatoma or epithelial pearls were reported, except in one experimental study and one clinical study, respectively. Conclusions FGF2 and EGF showed good effects and reliable safety for the regeneration of TM. In addition, EGF was better for the regeneration of acute perforations, while FGF2 combined with biological scaffolds was superior to EGF for chronic perforations, but was associated with high rates of reperforation over time. Further studies are required to determine whether EGF or FGF2 is better for TM regeneration.

Abstract
BACKGROUND In patients with T2DM, the therapeutic effects of conservative treatment are quite limited, and there is a need for additional therapeutic procedures to achieve the desired satisfactory and solid effect. Low-level laser therapy (LLLT) has an anti-inflammatory effect, and is used to heal lesions. This mechanism is realized through inhibition of lipopolysaccharides (LPS), so it can be used in the treatment of periodontal disease in patients with diabetes. OBJECTIVE The aim of this study is to assess the effect of level laser therapy (LLLT) on serum IL-6 values in patients with periodontitis and T2DM. METHODS Patients at age between 35-60 years old, with chronic periodontitis (CH) where the clinical loss of attachment (CAL) was ≥4 mm therefore covering at least 50 % of affected teeth. In this study we included 80 patients, divided into two groups: 40 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (2TDM) treated with conservative periodontal treatment supplemented with laser therapy (LLLT), group A, and 40 patients with 2TDM, conservatively treated without LLLT. therapy i.e. group B. The laser light was applied to the gingiva in separate quadrants in 5 sessions for the next five days in a row. Blood samples were taken from all subjects at the first treatment, then in 6 weeks and 3 months after treatment, and interleukin 6 (IL-6) levels were measured. The blood samples in the test tubes remained for about 30 minutes and were then distributed in a biochemical laboratory, where they were centrifuged at 6,000 rpm for 10 minutes. The serum was separated from the test tube and transferred to the eppendorph. All serum samples were stored at -80 ° C until complete analysis and determination of IL-6, according to the standardized methodology. RESULTS In group A, on the first examination serum IL-6 levels varies in the interval 11.54 ± 1.11 pg / mL, after 6 weeks of therapy the values range between 11.26 ± 0.77 pg / mL, and after 3 months of therapy levels oscillate at intervals of 11.02 ± 0.67 pg / mL. In group B the findings are similar. At the first examination, the serum IL-6 values were 11.56 ± 0.81 pg / mL, after 6 weeks of therapy ranged from 11.59 ± 0.71 pg / mL, and after 3 months of therapy levels were recorded at intervals. 11.41 ± 0.78 pg /mL. The serum IL-6 value after 6 weeks of therapy in patients in group B for Z = -2.04 and p <0.05 (p = 0.04) was significantly higher than in patients in group A, while after 3 months of therapy in patients in group B for Z = -2.42 and p <0.05 (p = 0.02) is significantly higher than the value in patients in group A. CONCLUSION LLLT resulted in significantly reduced serum IL-6 values in patients with periodontitis and T2DM after 6 weeks and 3 months of therapy in which conservative treatment was supplemented with LLLT.

Abstract
Approximately 50% of the sunlight reaching the Earth's surface is visible light (400-700 nm). Other sources of visible light include lasers, light-emitting diodes, and flash lamps. Photons from visible light are absorbed by photoreceptive chromophores (e.g., melanin, heme, and opsins), altering skin function by activating and imparting energy to chromophores. Additionally, visible light can penetrate the full thickness of the skin and induce pigmentation and erythema. Clinically, lasers and light devices are used to treat skin conditions by utilizing specific wavelengths and treatment parameters. Red and blue light from light-emitting diodes and intense pulsed light have been studied as antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory treatments for acne. Pulsed dye lasers are used to treat vascular lesions in adults and infants. Further research is necessary to determine the functional significance of visible light on skin health without confounding the influence of ultraviolet and infrared wavelengths.

Abstract
The most common photobiomodulation parameters used to aid in the treatment of diabetic foot ulcers were investigated in this paper. The databases MEDLINE, LILACS, MEDCARIB, PAHO-IRIS, and WHOLIS were searched with the following descriptors: diabetic foot ulcers AND low-level laser therapy OR low-level therapy AND wound healing; this search was conducted from January of 2014 to December of 2019. Inclusion criteria were randomized clinical trials on humans. Exclusion criteria were systematic reviews, literature reviews, studies with animals, studies lacking photobiomodulation parameters, and studies with non-diabetic individuals. The Jadad scale was used in order to analyze the methodological quality of the matching papers. There were seventeen studies found on PubMed and four on LILACS. Among these, seven were selected, according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Two out of the seven matching studies obtained a high score, and five obtained a low score, on the Jadad scale. The studies settled on the use of 600-nm and 800-nm wavelength spectrum. Most of the analyzed papers on photobiomodulation on diabetic foot ulcers did not describe the detailed parameters in their methodology. None of the studies featured the maximum score with regard to the Jadad scale for methodological quality. The relations of energy versus wavelength and power versus wavelength were divergent among the parameters on the papers. Therefore, it is necessary to analyze the parameters for an optimized power value in order to improve the results of the treatment.

Abstract
Basic dosimetric studies are necessary to support the use of photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT), since the great variety of laser parameters that are reported in the literature have created an obstacle to identifying reproducible results. Thus, the present study evaluates the process of tissue repair after the photobiomodulation therapy, taking into consideration the dose, frequency and the mode of energy delivery used. For this, 6 mm diameter wounds were created on dorsal skin of Wistar rats, and the animals were divided in control and irradiated groups, where L1 and L4 (irradiated with 1 point of 10 J/cm2), L2 and L5 (5 points of 10 J/cm2), L3 and L6 (1 point of 50 J/cm2), respectively for one or multiple days of irradiations. A diode laser, λ 660 nm, 40 mW of power and 0.028 cm2 of spot area was used. Our data showed that the group receiving multiple treatments over the first week post wounding, applied at 10 J/cm2 at each of 5 points on and around the wound (group L5) presented the best improvement of wound closure, higher cytokeratin 10, lower macrophage infiltration, and greater tissue resistance to rupture. We conclude that PBMT improves the skin wound healing process, and the outcomes were directly related to the chosen laser parameters and irradiation mode.

Abstract
Background Anal sphincter injury leads to fecal incontinence. Based on the regenerative capability of laser and human adipose-derived stem cells (hADSCs), this study was designed to assess the effects of co-application of these therapies on anal sphincter recovery after injury. Design Male rabbits were assigned to equal groups (n = 7) including control, sphincterotomy, sphincterotomy treated with laser (660 nm, 90 s, immediately after sphincterotomy, daily, 14 days), hADSCs (2 × 106 hADSCs injected into injured area of the sphincter immediately after sphincterotomy), and laser + hADSCs. Ninety days after sphincterotomy, manometry and electromyography were performed, sphincter collagen content was evaluated, and Ki67, myosin heavy chain (MHC), skeletal muscle alpha-actin (ACTA1), vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGFA), and vimentin mRNA gene expression were assessed. Results The laser + hADSCs group had a higher resting pressure compared with the sphincterotomy (p < 0.0001), laser (p < 0.0001), and hADSCs (p = 0.04) groups. Maximum squeeze pressure was improved in all treated animals compared with the sphincterotomized animals (p < 0.0001), without a significant difference between treatments (p > 0.05). In the laser + hADSCs group, motor unit numbers were higher than those in the laser group (p < 0.0001) but did not differ from the hADSCs group (p = 0.075). Sphincterotomy increased collagen content, but the muscle content (p = 0.36) and collagen content (p = 0.37) were not significantly different between the laser + hADSCs and control groups. Laser + hADSCs increased ACTA1 (p = 0.001) and MHC (p < 0.0001) gene expression compared with laser or hADSCs alone and was associated with increased VEGFA (p = 0.009) and Ki67 mRNA expression (p = 0.01) and decreased vimentin mRNA expression (p < 0.0001) compared with laser. Conclusion The combination of laser and hADSCs appears more effective than either treatment alone for promoting myogenesis, angiogenesis, and functional recovery after anal sphincterotomy.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aimed to evaluate the effect of peppermint gel on the prevention of pressure injuries in patients with head trauma admitted to neurosurgical intensive care units. DESIGN This double blind, randomized, controlled clinical trial study was conducted on 150 patients with head trauma admitted to the ICU. Using sealed envelopes, patients were assigned randomly into two intervention (n = 75) and control (n = 75) groups. SETTING The study was conducted in the ICUs of a university hospital and a general hospital in Shiraz, Iran. INTERVENTION The intervention group received peppermint gel three times a day up to 14 days during the skin care as a layer on the skin areas exposed to the risk of pressure injuries. The control group used a placebo gel. PRIMARY OUTCOMES The expected outcome in this study was the incidence of pressure injuries stage I, which once daily was evaluated by pairs of observers with the National Pressure Ulcer Advisory Panel. RESULTS The incidence rate of pressure injuries was 22.8% and 77% in the intervention and the control groups, respectively. The chi-square test result showed a significant deference between two groups (P < 0.001). Sacrum was the most common site for incidence of the pressure injuries. CONCLUSION The findings showed that the peppermint gel has a positive effect in the prevention of pressure injuries in the patients with head trauma admitted to ICUs. So, the use of this gel is suggested as an easy and low-cost method for prevention of pressure injuries in the patients admitted to ICUs.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Dysregulated inflammation is one of the major contributing factors for the prevalence of non-healing chronic wound in immunosuppressed subjects. Photobiomodulation (PBM) has emerged as a potential non-thermal, light-based therapeutic healing intervention for the treatment of impaired wounds. STUDY DESIGN/MATERIALS AND METHODS The present study delineates the underlying molecular mechanisms of PBM 810 nm laser-induced full-thickness cutaneous wound repair in immunosuppressed rats at continuous and pulsed wave-mode with power-density of 40 mW/cm 2 , fluence 22.6 J/cm 2 for 10 minutes daily for 7 post-wounding days. Molecular markers were assessed using biochemical, enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay quantification, enzyme kinetics and immunoblots analyses pertaining to inflammation, oxidative stress, cell survival, calcium signaling, and proliferation cascades. RESULTS Results distinctly revealed that pulsed 810 nm (10 Hz) PBM potentially influenced the cell survival and proliferation signaling pathway by significantly upregulated phospho-protein kinase B(phospho-Akt), phospho-extracellular-signal-regulated kinase 1 (ERK1), transient receptor potential vanilloid-3 (TRPV3), Ca2+ , calmodulin, transforming growth factor-β1 (TGF-β1), TGF-βR3, and Na + /K + -ATPase pump levels. PBM treatment resulted in reduction of exaggerated inflammatory responses evident by significantly repressed levels of interleukin-1β (IL-1β), IL-6, cyclooxygenase 2 (COX-2), and substance-P receptor (SPR), as well as inhibited apoptotic cell death by decreasing p53, cytochrome C, and caspase 3 levels (P < 0.05), which, in turn, effectively augment the wound repair in immunosuppressed rats. PBM treatment also lowered 4-hydroxynoneal (HNE) adduct level and NADP/NADPH ratio and upregulated the GRP78 expression, which might culminate into reduced oxidative stress and maintained the redox homeostasis. CONCLUSIONS Taken together, these findings would be helpful in better understanding of the molecular aspects involved in pulsed 810 nm laser-mediated dermal wound healing in immunosuppressed rats through regulation of cell survival and proliferation via Ca2+ -calmodulin, Akt, ERK, and redox signaling.
