Abstract
This study aimed to explore the potential of ANXA6 as a biomarker and its possible mechanisms, like its expression patterns and clinical significance, as well as exploring its underlying biological functions and regulatory networks in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). Differentially expressed proteins were identified by proteomics technology. PCR, western blotting, immunohistochemistry, and ELISA analysis of serum were used to analyze ANXA6's clinical role. GEO databases investigated its prognosis relationship. Seven databases predicted transcription factors, and GO, KEGG analyzed ANXA6's mechanism. Immune infiltration and immunotherapy datasets were also examined. ANXA6 was significantly downregulated in NPC, linked to poor survival advantage. Its expression level was closely correlated with primary lesion size, lymph node metastasis, distant metastasis and clinical stage. Low serum ANXA6 was associated with lymph node and distant metastasis. MYC may regulate ANXA6 in NPC. Functional analysis revealed co-expressed genes related to immune cells. ANXA6 was linked to immune infiltration and response. High ANXA6 expression predicted better immunotherapy and influenced drug sensitivity. ANXA6, negatively correlated with NPC development and metastasis, is a potential prognostic biomarker with tumor-suppressing effects. Multi-omics analysis highlights its clinical and immune regulatory roles, offering insights for future biomarker and molecular mechanism studies in NPC.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Epstein-Barr virus-related antibody seromarkers including VCA-IgA, EA-IgA, EBNA1-IgA, and Rta-IgG are used as markers for the detection of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). This meta-analysis was conducted to evaluate the diagnostic performance of their use in combined assays. METHODS Computerized searching of five electronic databases, supplemented by manual searching methods, was performed to identify pertinent articles. Diagnostic accuracy parameters, including sensitivity, specificity, positive likelihood ratio (PLR), negative likelihood ratio (NLR), diagnostic odds ratio (DOR), and area under the curve (AUC), were calculated with corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CIs). RESULTS Twenty-one studies with 4753 NPC cases and 31875 non-NPC controls were included. The pooled sensitivities for VCA-IgA+EA-IgA, VCA-IgA+EBNA1-IgA, VCA-IgA+Rta-IgG, and VCA-IgA+ EA-IgA+Rta-IgG were 0.89, 0.93, 0.94, and 0.94, respectively. Pooled specificities were 0.89, 0.88, 0.90, and 0.95, respectively. The PLRs were 8.1, 7.6, 9.4, and 17.4, respectively. Pooled NLRs were 0.12, 0.08, 0.07, and 0.07, respectively. Pooled DORs were 66, 95, 135, and 261, respectively. Pooled AUCs were 0.94, 0.96, 0.97, and 0.94, respectively. CONCLUSION These four combined assays based on EBV-related antibodies show diagnostic accuracy. The three-marker assay of VCA-IgA, EA IgA, and Rta-IgG has the best performance. Given the aspect of cost-benefit, VCA-IgA combined with EBNA1-IgA or Rta-IgG could become the preferred serodiagnostic strategy for NPC screening and early diagnosis.

Abstract
Plasma lipidomics has been commonly used for biomarker discovery. Studies in cancer have suggested a significant alteration of circulating metabolite profiles which is correlated with cancer characteristics and treatment outcome. However, the lipidomics characteristics of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) have rarely been studied. We previously described the phenomenon of lipid droplet accumulation in NPC cells and showed that such accumulation could be regulated by latent infection of Epstein–Barr virus (EBV). Here, we compared the plasma lipidome of NPC patients to that of healthy controls by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC–MS/MS). We found 19 lipids (e.g., phosphatidylinositols 18:0/20:4 and 18:0/18:2 and free fatty acid 22:6) to be remarkably decreased, whereas 2 lipids (i.e., diacylglycerols 16:0/16:1 and 16:0/20:3) to be increased, in the plasma of NPC patients, compared with controls. Different lipid profiles were also observed between patients with different titers of EBV antibodies (e.g., EA-IgA and VCA-IgA) as well as between patients with and without lymph node or distant organ metastasis. In conclusion, plasma lipidomics might help to differentiate NPC cases from controls, whereas EBV infection might influence the risk and prognosis of NPC through modulating lipid metabolism in both tumor cells and peripheral blood.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Numerous individual studies have investigated the diagnostic value of EBV-DNA, EA-IgA, VCA-IgA, EBNA1-IgA and Rta-IgG detection for nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC), but the conclusions remain controversial. This meta-analysis aimed to determine the value of EBV-DNA, EA-IgA, VCA-IgA, EBNA1-IgA and Rta-IgG detection in the diagnosis of NPC. METHODS PROSPERO registration number: CRD42019145532. PubMed, EMBASE, Cochrane Library, and Chinese data libraries (Wanfang, CNKI, and CBM) were searched up to January 2019. The pooled sensitivity, specificity, and positive likelihood, negative likelihood, and diagnostic odds ratios were conducted in this meta-analysis. Summary receiver operating characteristic curves evaluated the test-performance global summary. Publication bias was examined by Deek's funnel plot asymmetry test. RESULTS Forty-seven studies with 8382 NPC patients (NPC group) and 15,089 individuals without NPC (Control group) were included in this meta-analysis. The sensitivity, specificity, positive likelihood (+ LR), negative likelihood (-LR), DOR and AUC of EBV-DNA in diagnosis of NPC were: 0.76 (95% CI 0.73-0.77), 0.96 (95% CI 0.95-0.97), 14.66 (95% CI 9.97-21.55), 0.19 (95% CI 0.13-0.28), 84 (95% CI 50.45-139.88), 0.96 (SE: 0.001), and 0.55 (95% CI 0.54-0.57), 0.96 (95% CI 0.96-0.97), 12.91 (95% CI 9.55-17.45), 0.35 (95% CI 0.29-0.43), 39.57 (95% CI 26.44-59.23), 0.94 (SE: 0.002) for the EA-IgA, and 0.85 (95% CI 0.84-0.85), 0.89 (95% CI 0.88-0.89), 6.73 (95% CI5.38-8.43), 0.17 (95% CI 0.12-0.23), 43.03 (95% CI 31.51-58.76), 0.93 (SE: 0.007) for the VCA-IgA, and 0.86 (95% CI 0.85-0.88), 0.87 (95% CI 0.88-0.90), 7.55 (95% CI 5.79-9.87), 0.16 (95% CI 0.13-0.19), 50.95 (95% CI 34.35-75.57), 0.94 (SE: 0.008) for the EBNA1-IgA, and 0.70 (95% CI 0.69-0.71), 0.94 (95% CI 0.94-0.95), 9.84 (95% CI 8.40-11.54), 0.25 (95% CI 0.21-0.31), 40.59 (95% CI 32.09-51.35), 0.95 (SE: 0.005) for the Rta-IgG. The EBV-DNA had larger AUC compared with other EBV-based antibodies (P < 0.05), while the difference between EA-IgA, VCA-IgA, EBNA1-IgA and Rta-IgG was not statistically significant (P > 0.05). CONCLUSIONS EBV-DNA, VCA-IgA, EBNA1-IgA and Rta-IgG detection have high accuracy in early diagnosis NPC. In addition, EBV-DNA detection has the higher diagnosis accuracy in NPC. On the other hand, EA-IgA is suitable for the diagnosis but not NPC screening.

Abstract
Purpose This study assessed the correlation between Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) biomarkers and the eighth American Joint Committee on Cancer staging system and the prognostic values of IgG antibodies against replication and transcription activator (Rta-IgG), IgA antibodies against Epstein-Barr nuclear antigen 1, and BamH1 Z transactivator (Zta-IgA) in locoregionally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) patients. Materials and Methods Serum EBV antibody levels were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay in 435 newly diagnosed stage III-IVA NPC patients administered intensity-modulated radiation therapy±chemotherapy. The primary endpoint was progression-free survival (PFS). Results Rta-IgG and Zta-IgA levels were positively correlated with the N category and clinical stage. Patients with high Rta-IgG levels (> 29.07 U/mL) showed a significantly inferior prognosis as indicated by PFS (77% vs. 89.8%, p=0.004), distant metastasis–free survival (DMFS) (88.3% vs. 95.8%, p=0.021), and local recurrence-free survival (LRFS) (91.2% vs. 98.3%, p=0.009). High Rta-IgG levels were also significantly associated with inferior PFS and LRFS in multivariable analyses. In the low-level EBV DNA group (≤ 1,500 copies/mL), patients with high Rta-IgG levels had significantly inferior PFS and DMFS (both p < 0.05). However, in the high-level EBV DNA group, Rta-IgG levels were not significantly associated with PFS, DMFS, and LRFS. In the advanced T category (T3–4) subgroup, high Rta-IgG levels were also significantly associated with inferior PFS, DMFS, and LRFS (both p < 0.05). Conclusion Rta-IgG and Zta-IgA levels were strongly correlated with the TNM classification. Rta-IgG level was a negative prognostic factor in locoregionally advanced NPC patients, especially those with advanced T category or low EBV DNA level.

Abstract
Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is a malignant epithelial tumor ubiquitously associated with the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), which is highly prevalent in South China, Southeast Asia, and North Africa. Despite being a highly radio-sensitive and treatable cancer, a majority of NPC patients are diagnosed in their advanced stage, and locoregional and distant relapses following definitive treatment contribute largely to cancer-specific mortality among these patients. Given that EBV-driven NPC is the predominant variant seen in endemic regions, various EBV detection methods have been developed and are utilized in screening, prognostication, and post-treatment surveillance of NPC patients. While the Immunoglobulin A (IgA) serology assay is the most extensively studied EBV detection method, the detection of plasma EBV DNA released during replication or cellular apoptosis has shown superior outcomes in endemic population screening, prognostication, and detection of distant relapse. Furthermore, there is emerging evidence on the use of circulating tumor cells, microRNAs, DNA hypermethylation, and combination assays in various clinical scenarios. Herein, this paper provides a comprehensive overview of the relevant studies using various EBV detection techniques in the management of NPC. Specifically, the recent advances, clinical evidence, and challenges associated with the clinical application of EBV liquid biopsies in population screening, prognostication, and surveillance of NPC are presented.

Abstract
Epstein-Barr virus (EBV)-based serologic antibody testing has been found to be a feasible alternative for nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) screening in endemic areas. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the performance of ELISA based on VCA IgA antibody, EA-IgA and Rta-IgG antibody specific to EBV in the diagnosis of NPC. A total of 2155 untreated NPC patients and 6957 healthy volunteers without nasopharyngeal disorder were recruited, and all subjects received EBV VCA-IgA, EA-IgA and Rta-IgG antibody tests simultaneously. The diagnostic efficiency of three testing alone or in combination for the diagnosis of NPC was evaluated. The prevalence of IgA antibody against EBV-VCA, IgA antibody against EBV-EA and IgG antibody against EBV-Rta was 89.9%, 46.6% and 63.2%. The sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, negative predictive value and Youden index were 89.88%, 89.65%, 73.18%, 96.63% and 0.79 for the EBV VCA-IgA antibody test, 46.59%, 96.89%, 82.5%, 85.42% and 0.43 for the EA-IgA antibody test, and 63.25%, 94.87%, 79.48%, 89.29% and 0.58 for the Rta-IgG antibody test in the diagnosis of NPC, and ROC curve analysis revealed the greatest diagnostic efficiency for EBV VCA-IgA antibody test and the lowest efficiency for EBV EA-IgA antibody test in the diagnosis of NPC. In addition, the simultaneous triple positivity of VCA-IgA, EA-IgA and Rta-IgG antibodies specific to EBV indicated the highest risk of NPC, and the simultaneous triple negativity of the three types of anti-EBV antibodies suggested the lowest risk of NPC. Our data demonstrate that EBV VCA-IgA antibody test shows a higher diagnostic efficiency than EA-IgA and Rta-IgG antibody tests for the screening of NPC, and triple positivity of is a better biomarker for the diagnosis of NPC.

Abstract
The development of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC), a common cancer in Southeastern Asia, is closely associated with Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection; however, the aetiological role of EBV in NPC pathogenesis remains enigmatic. The life cycle of EBV in NPC patients is defined as latency II, while the antibodies specific to lytic phase proteins, as well as lytic genes, were highly expressed in NPC patients. The correlation between antibody levels and the progression of NPC has been reported in some studies; however, most of these studies focused on IgA antibodies, and the results in different articles were not consistent. In this study, we concurrently determined the levels of IgA and IgG antibodies specific to six purified recombinant EBV antigens associated with different replication statuses of EBV: EBNA1 associated with latency II; the non-structural antigens Zta, TK, EA-D and EA-R associated with immediate-early and early lytic phases; and the EBV matrix protein VCA p18, which is involved in late lytic phase. Levels of antibodies specific to immediate-early and early antigens were correlated with the tumour progression, especially tumour size. The levels of antibodies specific to some lytic phase antigens were also correlated with lymph node inclusion and metastasis. However, the antibody specific to the latency II antigen EBNA1 was not correlated with either tumour size or metastasis. Consistent with previous transcriptome studies, the results suggested both the expression of lytic phase genes at the protein level and the intermittent reactivation of EBV in NPC patients.

Abstract
Type I hypersensitivity is mediated by the production of IgE antibodies in response to normally harmless substances. Debate still continues about the mechanisms underlying allergic reactions. Reduced barrier tissue function can be one of the risk factors for allergies. The aim of the present work was to compare the humoral immune response to Epstein-Barr virus in patients allergic to the A. alternata fungus or D. farinae house dust mites and healthy donors. It is known that up to 90% of the world population are infected with EBV. This infection occurs at early age when a child develops allergy. The antibodies were analyzed using immuno-PCR and the recombinant EBV protein rEBNA. We were able to demonstrate that infection occurs at early age in both allergic patients and healthy donors. The proportion of EBP-seropositive individuals was comparable between the groups (75% and 74%). The proportion of patients with high IgG1 titers among patients with allergies was lower (7%) than in healthy donors (18%), suggesting a lower viral load. In patients with allergies (but not in healthy donors) IgG1 titers declined as children grew older (р = 0.037). Besides, IgA1 titers were increased in patients with allergies in comparison with healthy donors, but differed between patients allergic to A. alternata and house dust mites. In allergic individuals, production of IgM against EBV was triggered earlier than in healthy donors. We conclude that IgM production and the IgA1-mediated humoral response occur earlier in patients with allergies, causing a decline in IgG1 titers over time.

Abstract
Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is a highly prevalent disease in Southeast Asia. The disease is typically diagnosed in the later stages, and chemotherapy resistance often causes treatment failure. To investigate the underlying mechanisms of drug resistance, we searched for chemoresistant-associated proteins in NPC and drug-resistant NPC cell lines using isobaric tags for relative and absolute quantitation combined with nano liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry. The chemoresistant NPC cell lines CNE1DDP and CNE2DDP were resistant to 1 mg/L cisplatin, had resistant indexes of 4.58 and 2.63, respectively, and clearly grew more slowly than the NPC cell lines CNE1 and CNE2. Using three technical replicates, we identified 690 nonredundant proteins, 56 of which were differentially expressed in both groups of cell lines (CNE1 vs. CNE1DDP and CNE2 vs. CNE2DDP). Gene Ontology, KEGG pathway, and miRNA analyses and protein-protein interactions of differentially expressed proteins showed that proteins TRIM29, HSPB1, CLIC1, ANXA1, and STMN1, among others, may play a role in the mechanisms of chemoresistance in clinical therapy. The chemotherapy-resistant proteomic profiles obtained may allow the identification of novel biomarkers for early detection of chemoresistance in NPC and other cancers.

Abstract
Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC), which is closely associated with Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), is one of the most prevalent cancers in southeast China. Most NPC patients are diagnosed at late stage due to inconspicuous symptoms at the early stage, and the prognosis of these patients is poor. The early diagnosis rate of NPC could be significantly increased by serological screening, but the positive predictive value (PPV) is relatively low. A simple two-step serological screening scheme was established to improve the PPV of the screening strategy and was validated by a prospective cohort. Serum antibodies specific for EBNA1, Zta, Thymidine Kinase (TK), EAD, EAR, and VCA were detected by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. The combination of EBNA1/IgA and VCA/IgA was used in the first step of screening, and anti-early antigens (EAs) were used in the second step of screening. EAD/IgA was the most prominent marker in the second step of screening, and other anti-EAs were complementary to EAD/IgA. As validated by a prospective cohort including 4200 participants, using the combination of EAD/IgA and TK/IgA in the second step decreased the number of high-risk participants from 128 to 27, and increased the PPV from 4.69% to 18.52%, with only one very early-stage case missed. The two-step screening scheme provides a standardized approach for NPC screening with an improved PPV and may be used in future field studies. With this two-step serological screening method, more people benefit from the screening program without increasing the need for fiberoptic endoscopy.

Abstract
This study explored the 605 nm carboxyl of water-soluble quantum dots to assess the practicability of the nasopharyngeal carcinoma marker EBNA1 antibody. We used 605 nm carboxyl water-soluble quantum dots and nasopharyngeal carcinoma EBNA1 antigen in 1-(3-dimethylaminopropyl-3-2-ethylcarbonimine hydrochloride to generate quantum dot-labeled antigen. Gel imaging system showed that serum group and 60 patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma had significant differences in 30 cases of normal adult serogroup brightness, Levene test in the two groups ELISA absorbance value was P<0.001, namely the nasopharyngeal carcinoma group and the normal adult serum group measured absorbance value difference was obvious. The statistical significance, and the detection technology were of high specificity and sensitivity. In conclusion, this study adopted double antigen clip combining immune chromatography test EBNA1 antibody in serum, compared with the traditional enzyme-linked immunoassays this method is more rapid, with simpler operation, rapid detection for developing quantum dot immune chromatography technology the EBNA1 antibody kit provides a theoretical basis.

Abstract
Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is closely associated with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). Serum IgA antibodies against early antigen (EA-IgA) and viral capsid antigen (VCA-IgA) are the most commonly used to screen for NPC in endemic areas. However, the prognostic value of serum EA-IgA and VCA-IgA in patients with NPC is less clear. We hypothesize that serum EA-IgA and VCA-IgA levels have prognostic impact for survival outcomes in NPC patients with undetectable pretreatment EBV (pEBV) DNA. In this series, 334 patients with non-metastatic NPC and undetectable pEBV DNA were included. Serum EA-IgA and VCA-IgA were determined by ELISA. After analysis, serum EA-IgA and VCA-IgA loads correlated positively with T, N, and overall stage (all P < 0.05). Serum EA-IgA was not associated with survival outcome in univariable analyses. But patients with serum VCA-IgA >1:120 had significantly inferior 5-year progression-free survival (80.4% vs 89.6%, P = 0.025), distant metastasis-free survival (88.4% vs 94.8%, P = 0.050), and locoregional relapse-free survival (88.4% vs 95.6%, P = 0.023; log-rank test). Multivariable analyses revealed that N stage was the only independent prognostic factor (all P < 0.05), but the VCA-IgA became insignificant. Further analyses revealed that serum VCA-IgA was not an independent prognostic factor in early N (N0-1) or advanced N (N2-3) stage NPC. In summary, although both EA-IgA and VCA-IgA correlate strongly with TNM stage, our analyses do not suggest that these antibodies are prognostic biomarkers in patients with NPC and undetectable pEBV DNA.

Abstract
Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection is a major etiological factor for nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). Several EBV-encoded BART miRNAs have been associated with viral latency, immune escape, cell survival, cell proliferation and apoptosis. Here, we report that EBV-miR-BART7-3p, an EBV-encoded BART miRNA highly expressed in NPC, was correlated with cell-cycle progression in vitro and increased tumor formation in vivo. This viral miRNA stimulated the PTEN/PI3K/Akt pathway and induced c-Myc and c-Jun. Knockdown of PTEN mimicked EBV-miR-BART7-3p-induced tumorigenic phenotype. Based on these results, we conducted a therapeutic experiment by using gold nano-particles (AuNPs) carrying anti-EBV-miR-BART7-3p. Silencing of EBV-miR-BART7-3p reduced tumor growth in animal model. We conclude that EBV-miR-BART7-3p favors carcinogenesis, representing a potential target for miRNA-based therapy.

Abstract
Background Ebstein-Barr virus (EBV) plays a critical role in nasopharynx cancer, which can be effectively monitored by serum levels of early antigen antibody (EA-IgA) and viral capsid antigen antibody (VCA-IgA). This study explored the diagnostic value of combined assays of sialic acid (SA), EA-IgA, and VCA-IgA via the expressional assay. Material/Methods A total of 42 nasopharynx cancer patients and 42 benign rhinitis and healthy controls were recruited in this study. Serum EA-IgA and VCA-IgA were tested by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) and enzymatic assay of serum SA. Specificity and sensitivity of those 3 assays were compared. The diagnostic value of each parameter was evaluated by ROC curves. Results All 3 indexes (SA, EA-IgA and VCA-IgA) showed elevated serum levels in nasopharynx cancer patients when compared to those with rhinitis, who had higher levels than healthy individuals. Concentrations of these factors were also positively correlated with the TNM staging of cancer. The sensitivity and specificity were 30.95% and 83.33% (in SA), 57.14% and 95.24% (in EA-IgA), and 76.19% and 92.86% (in VCA-IgA), respectively. VCA-IgA had the highest sensitivity among all 3 indexes. The combined assay increased the diagnostic sensitivity to 92.86% without compromising specificity. Conclusions SA, EA-IgA, and VCA-IgA levels were significantly elevated in nasopharynx patients’ serum. The combined assay may have clinical value in diagnosis and monitoring.

Abstract
Cadmium is a ubiquitous carcinogenic pollutant with multiple biological effects. Both observational and experimental studies have suggested associations between cadmium and the rates of many types of cancers. The aim of the present study was to evaluate whether cadmium exposure is associated with nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) in a population with a relatively high prevalence in southeast China. Hospital-based 134 NPC cases and 132 cancer-free controls were recruited from a cancer hospital in Chaoshan area, southeast of China. Basic clinical data and information of lifetime styles, smoking, and drinking as well as other demographic characteristics were also collected from medical records. Blood cadmium levels (BCLs) were detected by graphite-furnace atomizer absorption spectrophotometer (GFAAS). BCLs and over-limit ratios between cases and controls were compared. The relationships between BCLs and NPC were explored by comparing BCLs differences between/among different characteristics of related factors and logistic regression analysis. In addition, BCLs within cases were also compared in relation to the disease clinical stages, pathological types, and metastasis. The median concentration of blood cadmium in cases (3.84, interquartile range 2.21-6.10) was significantly higher than that of controls (2.28, interquartile range 1.79-3.45). The over-limit ratio (≥5 μg/L) in cases was also higher than that in controls (35.1 vs. 13.6%, χ(2) = 16.55, p < 0.001). Smokers tended to have high levels of cadmium burden, and smokers with longer smoking pack-years in cases had relatively higher BCLs (p = 0.001). NPC patients with diseases history presented lower cadmium burden (p = 0.020). In the NPC cases, BCLs were positively associated with clinical stages and N classification (r = 0.193, 0.187, respectively, p < 0.05). Cadmium seems to be a risk factor of NPC, and high cadmium exposure may promote the occurrence and development of NPC.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Nasopharyngeal carcinoma often occurs in humans in the nasopharyngeal epithelium area. Ebstein-Barr (EB) virus plays a key role in the process of nasopharyngeal carcinoma lesions. Early antigen antibody (EA-IgA) and viral capsid antigen IgA (VCA-IgA) of EB virus detection in serum can effectively monitor the process of nasopharyngeal carcinoma lesions. Serum vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) -C and VEGF-D expression detection can reflect the distant metastases ability of human tumor cells. MATERIAL AND METHODS 153 cases of nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients in our hospital were enrolled, while 148 cases of healthy adults were selected as control. ELISA was used to detect serum EA-IgA, VCA-IgA, VEGF-C and -D expression levels. Spearman rank correlation analysis was applied to test the correlation of nasopharyngeal carcinoma TNM clinical stage and different indexes. RESULTS Serum EA-IgA, VCA-IgA, VEGF-C and -D expression in nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients was 43.74±2.6 U•mL^-1, 62.5±2.7 U·mL^-1, 473.25±3.4 pg•mL^-1, and 498.36±2.3 pg•mL^-1, respectively, which was significantly higher than in the control group as 18.65±3.7 U•mL^-1, 23.74±1.5 U•mL^-1, 225.42±2.3 pg•mL^-1, and 257.24±3.5 pg•mL^-1 (P<0.05). Nasopharyngeal carcinoma TNM clinical staging was obviously correlated with serum EA-IgA, VCA-IgA, and VEGF-C (P<0.05), but not VEGF-D (P>0.05). CONCLUSIONS Nasopharyngeal carcinoma patient serum EA-IgA and VCA-IgA expression levels were significantly correlated with TNM staging. The high levels of these 3 indicators suggest advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma TNM staging and serious lesions.

Abstract
BACKGROUND To evaluate efficacy and side effects of glycididazole sodium (CMNa) combined with chemotherapy (cisplatin plus 5-FU/folic acid, PLF) and radiotherapy in treating patients with locally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma. MATERIALS AND METHODS Patients with III~IV stage nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC),were randomly divided into treatment group (46 patients) and control group (45 patients). Both groups received radiotherapy concomitant with PLF chemotherapy. The treatment group at the same time was given CMNa (800 mg/m2 before radiotherapy), by l h intravenous drip, three times a week. RESULTS When the dose of radiation was over 60 Gy, complete response rates of nasopharyngeal tumor and lymph node metastases in treatment group were significantly higher than in the control group (93.5% vs 77.8%; 89.1% vs 93.5%, p<0.05). Three months after radiotherapy, complete response rate of nasopharynx cancer and lymph node metastases in treatment group was both 97.8%, again higher than in the control group (84.4% and 82.2%) (p<0.05). In the treatment group, 1, 3, 5 year disease-free survival rates were 95.7%, 86.7% and 54.5%; and in control group, the corresponding disease-free survival rates were 93.3%, 66.2% and 38.6%, respectively, the difference being statistically significant (log-rank =5.887, p=0.015). One, 3, 5 year overall survival rates in two groups of patients were 97.8%, 93.5%, 70.4% and 95.5%, 88.07%, 48.4%, respectively, again with a statistically significant difference (log-rank=6.470, p=0.011). Acute toxicity and long-term radiotherapy related toxicity in the two groups did not differ (p>0.05). CONCLUSIONS Glycididazole sodium could improve curative effects without increasing adverse reactions when treating patients with locally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma.
