Abstract
Designing low-content and high-activity Pt-based catalysts with the high durability for the electrochemical hydrogen production remains a challenge. In this study, a ternary metal phosphide (NiCoP) with 1D nanowire (NW) and 2D nanosheet (NS) morphologies incorporating Pt clusters (denoted as Ptcluster-NiCoP@NF NWs and Ptcluster-NiCoP@NF NSs, respectively) was prepared using a hydrothermal-phosphorization-electrodeposition method. Based on the "tip effect" of NWs and a high electrochemical surface area, the as-prepared Ptcluster-NiCoP@NF NWs display better hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) performance, with a low overpotential of 65 mV at a high current density of 100 mA cm-2 and a low Tafel slope of 38.86 mV dec-1, than the Ptcluster-NiCoP@NF NSs, with an overportential of 95 mV at 42.53 mV dec-1. This indicates that the NiCoP NW-based support exhibits faster HER kinetics. The mass activity (11.47 A mgPt-1) of the Ptcluster-NiCoP@NF NWs is higher than that of commercial Pt/C catalysts. Significantly, the Ptcluster-NiCoP@NF NWs display excellent cyclic stability with negligible losses for 5000 cycles and 30-h tests at a high current of 500 mA cm-2.

Abstract
In this work, a novel liquid nitrogen quenching strategy is engineered to fulfill iron active center coordination reconstruction within iron carbide (Fe3C) modified on biomass-derived nitrogen-doped porous carbon (NC) for initiating rapid hydrogen and oxygen evolution, where the chrysanthemum tea (elm seeds, corn leaves, and shaddock peel, etc.) is treated as biomass carbon source within Fe3C and NC. Moreover, the original thermodynamic stability is changed through the corresponding force generated by liquid nitrogen quenching and the phase transformation is induced with rich carbon vacancies with the increasing instantaneous temperature drop amplitude. Noteworthy, the optimizing intermediate absorption/desorption is achieved by new phases, Fe coordination, and carbon vacancies. The Fe3C/NC-550 (550 refers to quenching temperature) demonstrates outstanding overpotential for hydrogen evolution reaction (26.3 mV at -10 mA cm-2) and oxygen evolution reaction (281.4 mV at 10 mA cm-2), favorable overall water splitting activity (1.57 V at 10 mA cm-2). Density functional theory (DFT) calculations further confirm that liquid nitrogen quenching treatment can enhance the intrinsic electrocatalytic activity efficiently by optimizing the adsorption free energy of reaction intermediates. Overall, the above results authenticate that liquid nitrogen quenching strategy open up new possibilities for obtaining highly active electrocatalysts for the new generation of green energy conversion systems.

Abstract
Achieving a high depth of discharge (DOD) in lithium metal anodes (LMAs) is crucial for developing high areal energy density batteries suitable for wearable electronics. Yet, the persistent growth of dendrites compromises battery performance, and the significant lithium consumption during pre-lithiation obstructs their broad application. Herein, A flexible 3D Li13Sn5 scaffold is designed by allowing molten lithium to infiltrate carbon cloth adorned with SnO2 nanocrystals. This design markedly curbs the troublesome dendrite growth, thanks to the uniform electric field distribution and swift Li+ diffusion dynamics. Additionally, with a minimal SnO2 nanocrystals loading (2 wt.%), only 0.6 wt.% of lithium is consumed during pre-lithiation. Insights from in situ optical microscope observations and COMSOL simulations reveal that lithium remains securely anchored within the scaffold, a result of the rapid mass/charge transfer and uniform electric field distribution. Consequently, this electrode achieves a remarkable DOD of 87.1% at 10 mA cm-2 for 40 mAh cm-2. Notably, when coupled with a polysulfide cathode, the constructed flexible Li/Li13Sn5@CC||Li2S6/SnO2@CC pouch cell delivers a high-areal capacity of 5.04 mAh cm-2 and an impressive areal-energy density of 10.6 mWh cm-2. The findings pave the way toward the development of high-performance LMAs, ideal for long-lasting wearable electronics.

Abstract
Interfacial interaction dictates the overall catalytic performance and catalytic behavior rules of the composite catalyst. However, understanding of interfacial active sites at the microscopic scale is still limited. Importantly, identifying the dynamic action mechanism of the "real" active site at the interface necessitates nanoscale, high spatial-time-resolved complementary-operando techniques. In this work, a Co3O4 homojunction with a well-defined interface effect is developed as a model system to explore the spatial-correlation dynamic response of the interface toward oxygen evolution reaction. Quasi in situ scanning transmission electron microscopy-electron energy-loss spectroscopy with high spatial resolution visually confirms the size characteristics of the interface effect in the spatial dimension, showing that the activation of active sites originates from strong interfacial electron interactions at a scale of 3 nm. Multiple time-resolved operando spectroscopy techniques explicitly capture dynamic changes in the adsorption behavior for key reaction intermediates. Combined with density functional theory calculations, we reveal that the dynamic adjustment of multiple adsorption configurations of intermediates by highly activated active sites at the interface facilitates the O-O coupling and *OOH deprotonation processes. The dual dynamic regulation mechanism accelerates the kinetics of oxygen evolution and serves as a pivotal factor in promoting the oxygen evolution activity of the composite structure. The resulting composite catalyst (Co-B@Co3O4/Co3O4 NSs) exhibits an approximately 70-fold turnover frequency and 20-fold mass activity than the monomer structure (Co3O4 NSs) and leads to significant activity (η10 ∼257 mV). The visual complementary analysis of multimodal operando/in situ techniques provides us with a powerful platform to advance our fundamental understanding of interfacial structure-activity relationships in composite structured catalysts.

Abstract
Strain engineering is a novel method that can achieve superior performance for different applications. The lattice strain can affect the performance of electrochemical catalysts by changing the binding energy between the surface-active sites and intermediates and can be affected by the thickness, surface defects and composition of the materials. In this review, we summarized the basic principle, characterization method, introduction strategy and application direction of lattice strain. The reactions on hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) are focused. Abstract
The development of advanced magnesium metal batteries (MMBs) has been hindered by longstanding challenges, such as the inability to induce uniform magnesium (Mg) nucleation and the inefficient utilization of Mg foil. This study introduces a novel solution in the form of a flexible, lightweight, paper-based scaffold that incorporates gradient conductivity, magnesiophilicity, and pore size. This design is achieved through an industrially adaptable papermaking process in which the ratio of carboxylated multi-walled carbon nanotubes to softwood cellulose fibers is meticulously adjusted. The triple-gradient structure of the scaffold enables the regulation of Mg ion flux, promoting bottom-up Mg deposition. Owing to its high flexibility, low thickness, and reduced density, the scaffold has potential applications in flexible and wearable electronics. Accordingly, the triple-gradient electrodes exhibit stable operation for over 1200 h at 3 mA cm-2 /3 mAh cm-2 in symmetrical cells, markedly outperforming the non-gradient and metallic Mg alternatives. Notably, this study marks the first successful fabrication of a flexible MMB pouch full cell, achieving an impressive volumetric energy density of 244 Wh L-1 . The simplicity and scalability of the triple-gradient design, which uses readily available materials through an industrially compatible papermaking process, open new doors for the production of flexible, high-energy-density metal batteries.

Abstract
Transition metal metaphosphates and noble metal phosphides prepared under similar conditions are potential hybrid catalysts for electrocatalytic water splitting, which is of great significance for H2 production. Herein, the structure and electrocatalytic activity of different noble metal species (i.e., Rh, Pd, Ir) on CoNiP4O12 nanoarrays have been systematically studied. Due to the different formation energies of noble metal phosphides, the phosphides of Rh (RhPx) and Pd (PdPx) as well as the noble metal Ir are obtained under the same phosphorylation conditions perspectively. RhPx/CoNiP4O12 and PdPx/CoNiP4O12 exhibit much better HER activity than Ir/CoNiP4O12 due to the advantages of phosphides. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations reveal that the extraordinary activity of RhPx/CoNiP4O12 originated from the strong affinity to H2O and optimal adsorption for H*. The best RhPx/CoNiP4O12 only requires a low overpotential of 30 and 234 mV to deliver 10 mA cm-2 for HER and OER, respectively, and therefore is effective for overall water splitting (requiring 1.57 V to achieve a current density of 10 mA cm-2). This work not only develops a novel RhPx/CoNiP4O12 electrocatalyst for overall water splitting but also provides deep insight into the formation mechanism of noble metal phosphides.

Abstract
Developing high-performance electrocatalysts for alkaline hydrogen oxidation reaction (HOR) is crucial for the commercialization of anion exchange membrane fuel cells (AEMFCs). Here, boron interstitially inserted ruthenium (B-Ru/C) is synthesized and used as an anode catalyst for AEMFC, achieving a peak power density of 1.37 W cm-2 , close to the state-of-the-art commercial PtRu catalyst. Unexpectedly, instead of the monotonous decline of HOR kinetics with pH as generally believed, an inflection point behavior in the pH-dependent HOR kinetics on B-Ru/C is observed, showing an anomalous behavior that the HOR activity under alkaline electrolyte surpasses acidic electrolyte. Experimental results and density functional theory calculations reveal that the upshifted d-band center of Ru after the intervention of interstitial boron can lead to enhanced adsorption ability of OH and H2 O, which together with the reduced energy barrier of water formation, contributes to the outstanding alkaline HOR performance with a mass activity of 1.716 mA µgPGM -1 , which is 13.4-fold and 5.2-fold higher than that of Ru/C and commercial Pt/C, respectively.

Abstract
Despite the fact that d-band center theory links the d electron structure of transition metals to their catalytic activity, it is yet unknown how the synergistic effect of multi-d electrons impacts catalytic performance. Herein, novel LaNi1-x Cox Ru intermetallics containing 5d, 4d, and 3d electrons were prepared. In these compounds, the 5d orbital of La transfers electrons to the 4d orbital of Ru, which provides adsorption sites for H*. The 3d orbitals of Ni and Co interact with the 5d and 4d orbitals to generate an anisotropic electron distribution, which facilitates the adsorption and desorption of OH*. The synergistic effect of multi-d electrons ensures efficient catalytic activity. The optimized LaNi0.5 Co0.5 Ru has an overpotential of 43mV at 10 mA cm-2 for alkaline electrocatalytic hydrogen evolution reaction. Beyond offering a variety of new electrocatalysts, this work reveals the multi-d electron synergy in promoting catalytic reaction.

Abstract
Facing with serious carbon emission issues, the production of green H2 from electrocatalytic hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) has received extensive research interest. Almost all kinds of noble metal phosphides (NMPs) consisting of Pt-group elements (i.e., Ru, Rh, Pd, Os, Ir and Pt) are all highly active and pH-universal electrocatalysts toward HER. In this review, the recent progress of NMP-based HER electrocatalysts is summarized. It is further take typical examples for discussing important impact factors on the HER performance of NMPs, including crystalline phase, morphology, noble metal element and doping. Moreover, the synthesis and HER application of hybrid catalysts consisting of NMPs and other materials such as transition metal phosphides, oxides, sulfides and phosphates, carbon materials and noble metals is also reviewed. Reducing the use of noble metal is the key idea for NMP-based hybrid electrocatalysts, while the expanded functionality and structure-performance relationship are also noticed in this part. At last, the potential opportunities and challenges for this kind of highly active catalyst is discussed.

Abstract
Metallic nickel (Ni) is a promising candidate to substitute Pt-based catalysts for hydrogen oxidation reaction (HOR), but huge challenges still exist in precise modulation of the electronic structure to boost the electrocatalytic performances. Herein, we present the use of single-layer Ti3C2Tx MXene to deliberately tailor the electronic structure of Ni nanoparticles via interfacial oxygen bridges, which affords Ni/Ti3C2Tx electrocatalyst with exceptional performances for HOR in an alkaline medium. Remarkably, it shows a high kinetic current of 16.39 mA cmdisk-2 at the overpotential of 50 mV for HOR [78 and 2.7 times higher than that of metallic Ni and Pt/C (20%), respectively], also with good durability and CO antipoisoning ability (1,000 ppm) that are not available for conventional Pt/C (20%) catalyst. The ultrahigh conductivity of single-layer Ti3C2Tx provides fast transmission of electrons for Ni nanoparticles, of which the uniform and small sizes endow them with high-density active sites. Further, the terminated -O/-OH functional groups on Ti3C2Tx directionally capture electrons from Ni nanoparticles via interfacial Ni-O bridges, leading to obvious electronic polarization. This could enhance the Nids-O2p interaction and weaken Nids-H1s interaction of Ni sites in Ni/Ti3C2Txenabling a suitable H-/OH-binding energy and thus enhancing the HOR activity.

The Secret of Nanoarrays toward Efficient Electrochemical Water Splitting: A Vision of Self-Dynamic Electrolyte. ADVANCED MATERIALS (DEERFIELD BEACH, FLA.) 2023; 35:e2307017. Abstract
Nanoarray electrocatalysts with unique advantage of facilitating gas bubble detachment have garnered significant interest in gas evolution reactions (GERs). Existing research is largely based on a static hypothesis, assuming that buoyancy is the only driving force for the release of bubbles during GERs. However, this hypothesis overlooks the effect of the self-dynamic electrolyte flow, which is induced by the release of mature bubbles and helps destabilize and release the smaller, immature bubbles nearby. Herein, the enhancing effect of self-dynamic electrolyte flow on nanoarray structures is examined. Phase-field simulations demonstrate that the flow field of electrode with arrayed surface focuses shear force directly onto the gas bubble for efficient detachment, due to the flow could pass through voids and channels to bypass the shielding effect. The flow field therefore has a more substantial impact on the arrayed surface than the nanoscale smooth surface in terms of reducing the critical bubble size. To validate this, superaerophobic ferrous-nickel sulfide nanoarrays are fabricated and employed for water splitting, which display improved efficiency for GERs. This study contributes to understanding the influence of self-dynamic electrolyte on GERs and emphasizes that it should be considered when designing and evaluating nanoarray electrocatalysts.

Abstract
Electrocatalytic hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) is a promising way to produce pure and clean hydrogen. However, the preparation of efficient and economical catalysts for pH-universal HER remains a challenging but rewarding task. Herein, ultrathin RuZn nanosheets (NSs) with moiré superlattices and abundant edges are synthesized. The RuZn NSs with unique structure exhibit superb HER performance with overpotentials of 11, 13, and 29 mV to achieve 10 mA cm-2 in 1 M KOH, 1 M PBS, and 0.5 M H2 SO4 , respectively, which is substantially lower than those of Ru NSs and RuZn NSs without moiré superlattices. Density functional theory investigations reveal that the charge transfer from Zn to Ru will lead the appropriate downshift of the d-band center of surface Ru atoms, thus accelerating hydrogen desorption from the Ru sites, lowering the dissociation energy barrier of water and greatly improving the HER performance. This work provides an effective design scheme for high-performance HER electrocatalysts over a wide pH range, and propose a general route to prepare Ru-based bimetallic nanosheets with moiré superlattices.

Abstract
Soft carbons have attracted extensive interests as competitive anodes for fast-charging sodium-ion batteries (SIBs); however, the high-rate performance is still restricted by their large ion migration barriers and sluggish reaction kinetics. Herein, we show a molecular design approach toward the fabrication of nitrogen and phosphorus codoped mesoporous soft carbon (NPSC). The key to this strategy lies in the chemical cross-linking reaction between polyphosphoric acid and p-phenylenediamine, associated with pyrolysis induced in-situ self-activation that creates mesoporous structures and rich heteroatoms within the carbon matrix. Thanks to the enlarged interlayer spacing, reduced ion diffusion length, and plentiful active sites, the obtained NPSC delivers a superb rate capacity of 215 mAh g-1 at 10 A g-1 and an ultralong cycle life of 4,700 cycles at 5 A g-1. Remarkably, the full cell shows 99% capacity retention during 100 continuous cycles, and maximum energy and power densities of 191 Wh kg-1 and 9.2 kW kg-1, respectively. We believe that such a synthetic protocol could pave a novel venue to develop soft carbons with unique properties for advanced SIBs.

Abstract
Designing Pt-based electrocatalysts with high catalytic activity and CO tolerance is challenging but extremely desirable for alkaline hydrogen oxidation reaction. Herein we report the design of a series of single-atom lanthanide (La, Ce, Pr, Nd, and Lu)-embedded ultrasmall Pt nanoclusters for efficient alkaline hydrogen electro-oxidation catalysis based on vapor filling and spatially confined reduction/growth of metal species. Mechanism studies reveal that oxophilic single-atom lanthanide species in Pt nanoclusters can serve as the Lewis acid site for selective OH- adsorption and regulate the binding strength of intermediates on Pt sites, which promotes the kinetics of hydrogen oxidation and CO oxidation by accelerating the combination of OH- and *H/*CO in kinetics and thermodynamics, endowing the electrocatalyst with up to 14.3-times higher mass activity than commercial Pt/C and enhanced CO tolerance. This work may shed light on the design of metal nanocluster-based electrocatalysts for energy conversion.

Abstract
Developing efficient electrocatalysts toward hydrogen oxidation and evolution reactions (HER/HOR) in alkaline electrolytes is essential for realizing renewable hydrogen technologies. Herein, we demonstrate that the introduction of dual-active species such as Mo and P (Pt/Mo,P@NC) can effectively regulate the surface electronic structure of platinum (Pt) and significantly improve the HOR/HER performance. The optimized Pt/Mo,P@NC exhibits remarkable catalytic activity, achieving a normalized exchange current density of 2.89 mA cm-2 and a mass activity of 2.3 mA μgPt-1, which are approximately 2.2 and 13.5 times higher than those of the state-of-the-art Pt/C catalyst, respectively. Moreover, it performs an impressive HER performance with an overpotential of 23.4 mV at 10 mA cm-2, which is lower than most documented alkaline electrocatalysts. Experimental results reveal that the modifying effect of Mo and P optimizes the adsorption of H and OH on Pt/Mo,P@NC, resulting in an outstanding catalytic performance. This work has significant theoretical and practical significance for developing a novel and highly efficient catalyst for bifunctional hydrogen electrocatalysis.

Abstract
Rational design of high-efficiency and viable electrocatalysts is essential in overcoming the bottleneck of sluggish alkaline hydrogen oxidation/evolution reaction (HOR/HER) kinetics. In this study, a metal-organic framework-derived strategy for constructing a Pt-free catalyst with Ru clusters anchored on porous Cu-Cu2 O@C is proposed. The designed Ru/Cu-Cu2 O@C exhibits superior HOR performance, with a mass activity of 2.7 mA μ g R u - 1 ${{{\rm \mu }{\rm g}}_{{\rm R}{\rm u}}^{-1}}$ at 50 mV, which is about 24 times higher than that of state-of-the-art Pt/C (0.11 mA μ g P t - 1 ${{{\rm \mu }{\rm g}}_{{\rm P}{\rm t}}^{-1}}$ ). Significantly, Ru/Cu-Cu2 O@C also displays impressive HER performance by generating 26 mV at 10 mA cm-2 , which exceeds the majority of documented Ru-based electrocatalysts. Systematic characterization and density functional theory (DFT) calculations reveal that efficient electron transfer between Ru and Cu species results in an attenuated hydrogen binding energy (HBE) of Ru and an enhanced hydroxy binding energy (OHBE) of Cu2 O, together with an optimized H2 O adsorption energy with Cu2 O as the H2 O*-capturing site, which jointly facilitates HOR and HER kinetics.

Abstract
Atomically dispersed Zn moieties are efficient active sites for accelerating the electrode kinetics of carbons for sodium-ion hybrid capacitors (SIHCs), but the low utilization and symmetric configuration of Zn single-atom greatly hamper the Na ion storage capability. Herein, a molecular design strategy is employed to synthesize high-density Zn single atoms with asymmetric Zn-N3 S coordination embedded in nitrogen/sulfur codoped carbon (Zn-N3 S-NSC). The key to this strategy lies in the Zn power-catalyzed condensation of trithiocyanuric acid molecules to generate S-doped g-C3 N4 , which can in situ coordinate with Zn sources to form Zn-N3 S moieties during pyrolysis. By virtue of the highly exposed Zn-N3 S moieties, Zn-N3 S-NSC presents ultrahigh reactivity, efficient electron transfer, and decreased ion diffusion barriers for SIHCs, rendering an impressive energy density of 215 Wh kg-1 and a maximum power density of 15625 W kg-1 . Moreover, the pouch cell displays a high capacity of 279 mAh g-1 after 4000 cycles. This work provides a new avenue for the regulation of the coordination configuration of single metal atoms in carbons toward high-performance electrochemical energy technologies at the molecular level.

Abstract
Graphene has long been recognized as a potential anode for next-generation lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). The past decade has witnessed the rapid advancement of graphene anodes, and considerable breakthroughs are achieved so far. In this review, the aim is to provide a research roadmap of graphene anodes toward practical LIBs. The Li storage mechanism of graphene is started with and then the approaches to improve its electrochemical performance are comprehensively summarized. First, morphologically engineered graphene anodes with porous, spheric, ribboned, defective and holey structures display improved capacity and rate performance owing to their highly accessible surface area, interconnected diffusion channels, and sufficient active sites. Surface-modified graphene anodes with less aggregation, fast electrons/ions transportation, and optimal solid electrolyte interphase are discussed, demonstrating the close connection between the surface structure and electrochemical activity of graphene. Second, graphene derivatives anodes prepared by heteroatom doping and covalent functionalization are outlined, which show great advantages in boosting the Li storage performances because of the additionally introduced defect/active sites for further Li accommodation. Furthermore, binder-free and free-standing graphene electrodes are presented, exhibiting great prospects for high-energy-density and flexible LIBs. Finally, the remaining challenges and future opportunities of practically available graphene anodes for advanced LIBs are highlighted.

Hydroxyapatite-Derived Heterogeneous Ru-Ru 2 P Electrocatalyst and Environmentally-Friendly Membrane Electrode toward Efficient Alkaline Electrolyzer. SMALL (WEINHEIM AN DER BERGSTRASSE, GERMANY) 2023:e2208045. [PMID: 36929607 DOI: 10.1002/smll.202208045] [Citation(s) in RCA: 3] [Impact Index Per Article: 3.0] [Reference Citation Analysis] [Abstract] [Key Words] [Track Full Text] [Subscribe] [Scholar Register] [Received: 12/21/2022] [Revised: 01/21/2023] [Indexed: 06/18/2023]
Abstract
Alkaline membrane water electrolysis is a promising production technology, and advanced electrocatalyst and membrane electrode design have always been the core technology. Herein, an ion-exchange method and an environmentally friendly in situ green phosphating strategy are successively employed to fabricate Ru-Ru2 P heterogeneous nanoparticles by using hydroxyapatite (HAP) as a phosphorus source, which is an exceptionally active electrocatalyst for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). Density functional theory calculation results reveal that strong electronic redistribution occurs at the heterointerface of Ru-Ru2 P, which modulates the electronic structure to achieve an optimized hydrogen adsorption strength. The obtained Ru-Ru2 P possesses excellent HER performance (24 mV at 10 mA cm-2 ) and robust stability (1000 mA cm-2 for 120 h) in alkaline media. Furthermore, an environmentally friendly membrane electrode with a sandwich structure is assembled by HAP nanowires as an alkaline membrane, Ru-Ru2 P as a cathodic catalyst, and NiFe-LDH as an anodic catalyst, respectively. The voltage of (-) Ru-Ru2 P || NiFe-LDH/CNTs (+) (1.53 V at 10 mA cm-2 ) is lower than that of (-) 20 wt% Pt/C || RuO2 (+) (1.60 V at 10 mA cm-2 ) for overall water splitting. Overall, the studies not only design an efficient catalyst but also provide a new route to achieve a high-stability electrolyzer for industrial H2 production.

Facile and Scalable Synthesis of Self-Supported Zn-Doped CuO Nanosheet Arrays for Efficient Nitrate Reduction to Ammonium. ACS APPLIED MATERIALS & INTERFACES 2023; 15:5172-5179. Abstract
CuO has been regarded as a promising catalyst for the electrochemical reduction of nitrate (NO3-RR) to ammonium (NH3); however, the intrinsic activity is greatly restricted by its poor electrical property. In this work, self-supported Zn-doped CuO nanosheet arrays (Zn-CuO NAs) are synthesized for NO3-RR, where the Zn dopant regulates the electronic structure of CuO to significantly accelerate the interfacial charge transfer and inner electron transport kinetics. The Zn-CuO NAs are constructed by a one-step etching of commercial brass (Cu64Zn36 alloy) in 0.1 M NaOH solution, which experiences a corrosion-oxidation-reconstruction process. Initially, the brass undergoes a dealloying procedure to produce nanosized Cu, which is immediately oxidized to the Cu2O unit with a low valence state. Subsequently, Cu2O is further oxidized to the CuO unit and reconstructed into nanosheets with the coprecipitation of Zn2+. For NO3-RR, Zn-CuO NAs show a high NH3 production rate of 945.1 μg h-1 cm-2 and a Faradaic efficiency of up to 95.6% at -0.7 V in 0.1 M Na2SO4 electrolyte with 0.01 M NaNO3, which outperforms the majority of the state-of-the-art catalysts. The present work offers a facile yet very efficient strategy for the scale-up synthesis of Zn-CuO NAs for high-performance NH3 production from NO3-RR.

Abstract
Molybdenum diselenide and cobalt diselenide have been commonly implemented in electrocatalytic hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). However, there have been few research on the creation of their three-phase heterojunctions and the associated HER process. Herein, we constructed a three-phase heterostructure sample consisting of orthorhombic CoSe2 , cubic CoSe2 and MoSe2 and we investigated its HER performance. The sample shows microsphere morphology composed of nanosheets with interfacial interactions between the components. It possesses an overpotential of -136 mV at -10 mA cm-2 in acid medium, which is superior to that of single component and most two-phase heterostructures. Especially, the overpotential at -200 mA cm-2 is smaller than that of Pt/C. The excellent performance can be attributed to the d-orbital upshift of the Co active sites due to charge redistribution between the three-phase heterojunction and the optimization of the hydrogen free energy. This work provides inspiration for exploring the application of other multi-component heterojunctions in electrocatalytic hydrogen evolution.
