Abstract
Unprecedented iron-based silsesquioxane/acetylacetonate complexes were synthesized. The intriguing cage-like structure of compounds is alkaline metal-dependent: the Fe2Li2 complex includes condensed Si6-silsesquioxane and four acetylacetonate ligands; the Fe4Na4 complex exhibits two cyclic Si4-silsesquioxane and eight acetylacetonate ligands, while the Fe3K3 complex features two cyclic Si3-silsesquioxane and six acetylacetonate ligands. The latter case is the very first observation of small trimeric silsesquioxane ligands in the composition of cage-like metallasilsesquioxanes. The Fe4Na4-based complex exhibits a record high activity in the oxidation of inert alkanes with peroxides (55% yield of oxygenates in cyclohexane oxidation). It also acts as a catalyst in the cycloaddition of CO2 with epoxides, leading to cyclic carbonates in good yields (58-96%).

Abstract
This study reports a novel family of cage manganesesilsesquioxanes prepared via complexation with bathophenanthroline (4,7-diphenyl-1,10-phenanthroline). The resulting Mn4-, Mn6Li2-, and Mn4Na-compounds exhibit several unprecedented cage metallasilsesquioxane structural features, including intriguing self-assembly of silsesquioxane ligands. Complexes were tested in vitro for fungicidal activity against seven classes of phytopathogenic fungi. The representative Mn4Na-complex acts as a catalyst in the cycloaddition of CO2 to epoxides under solvent-free conditions to form cyclic carbonates in good yields.

Abstract
The present study describes a new feature in the self-assembly of cagelike copperphenylsilsesquioxanes: the strong influence of acetone solvates on cage structure formation. By this simple approach, a series of novel tetra-, hexa-, or nonacoppersilsesquioxanes were isolated and characterized. In addition, several new complexes of Cu4 or Cu6 nuclearity bearing additional nitrogen-based ligands (ethylenediamine, 2,2'-bipyridine, phenanthroline, bathophenanthroline, or neocuproine) were produced. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies established molecular architectures of all of the synthesized products. Several coppersilsesquioxanes represent a novel feature of cagelike metallasilsesquioxane (CLMS) in terms of molecular topology. A Cu4-silsesquioxane complex with ethylenediamine (En) ligands was isolated via the unprecedented self-assembly of a partly condensed framework of silsesquioxane ligands, followed by the formation of a sandwich-like cage. Two prismatic Cu6 complexes represent the different conformers─regular and elliptical hexagonal prisms, "cylinders", determined by the different orientations of the coordinated acetone ligands ("shape-switch effect"). A heterometallic Cu4Na4-sandwich-like derivative represents the first example of a metallasilsesquioxane complex with diacetone alcohol ligands formed in situ due to acetone condensation reaction. As a selected example, the compound [(Ph6Si6O11)2Cu4En2]·(acetone)2 was explored in homogeneous oxidation catalysis. It catalyzes the oxidation of alkanes to alkyl hydroperoxides with hydrogen peroxide and the oxidation of alcohols to ketones with tert-butyl hydroperoxide. Radical species take part in the oxidation of alkanes. Besides, [(Ph6Si6O11)2Cu4En2]·(acetone)2 catalyzes the mild oxidative functionalization of gaseous alkanes (ethane, propane, n-butane, and i-butane). Two different model reactions were investigated: (1) the oxidation of gaseous alkanes with hydrogen peroxide to give a mixture of oxygenates (alcohols, ketones, or aldehydes) and (2) the carboxylation of Cn gaseous alkanes with carbon monoxide, water, and potassium peroxodisulfate to give Cn+1 carboxylic acids (main products), along with the corresponding Cn oxygenates. For these reactions, the effects of acid promoter, reaction time, and substrate scope were explored. As expected for free-radical-type reactions, the alkane reactivity follows the trend C2H6 < C3H8 < n-C4H10 < i-C4H10. The highest total product yields were observed in the carboxylation of i-butane (up to 61% based on i-C4H10). The product yields and catalyst turnover numbers (TONs) are remarkable, given an inertness of gaseous alkanes and very mild reaction conditions applied (low pressures, 50-60 °C temperatures).

Abstract
The mild reaction of the preorganized silsesquioxane precursor with Mn(II) acetate under ambient conditions results in a mixed-valent {MnII6MnIII4} nanocage (SD/Mn10) which is protected by both acyclic trimer [Si3] and cyclic tetramer [Si4]. Serendipitous capture of atmospheric CO2 as a μ5-carbonate anion placed at the center supports the formation of the cluster. The magnetic analysis reveals the strong antiferromagnetic interactions between Mn ions. Moreover, the drop-casting film of SD/Mn10 shows photoelectric activity indicating its great potential as a semiconductor for photoelectric conversion applications.

Abstract
The synthesis of manganese cluster complexes templated by polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane-derived ligands is described. MnII3(Ph7Si7O12)2Pyr4 (1) and MnII4(Ph4Si4O8)2(Bpy)2(Py)2 (3) are prepared by replacement of the amide ligands of Mn(NR2)2 (R = SiMe3) via ligand protolysis by the acidic proton of the respective silsesquioxane-derived silanols. Complex 1 is shown to undergo ligand rearrangement by reaction with O2, which results in oxidation of the cluster to a mixed MnII/III cluster, concomitant with cleavage of the Si-O bonds of the ligand, releasing a [Ph2Si-O]+ unit, opening a new ligating siloxide group, and resulting in the formation of Mn3(Ph6Si6O11)2Pyr4 (2). The ligand framework of 1 can also be perturbed by a base. The addition of LiOH/BuLi delivers a soluble equivalent of Li2O to 1, resulting in cleavage of the Si-O bonds and linkage of the resulting exposed silicon atoms by the new oxide, giving a linked ligand variant that templates a Li2Mn3 cluster, Mn3Li2(Ph7Si7O12OPh7Si7O12)DMF5Pyr (4). These systems are characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction, absorption spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared, cyclic voltammetry, and CHN combustion analysis. Mechanistic implications for the Si-O bond cleavage events are discussed.

Abstract
The review describes articles that provide data on the synthesis and study of the properties of catalysts for the oxidation of alkanes, olefins, and alcohols. These catalysts are polynuclear complexes of iron, copper, osmium, nickel, manganese, cobalt, vanadium. Such complexes for example are: [Fe2(HPTB)(m-OH)(NO3)2](NO3)2·CH3OH·2H2O, where HPTB-¼N,N,N0,N0-tetrakis(2-benzimidazolylmethyl)-2-hydroxo-1,3-diaminopropane; complex [(PhSiO1,5)6]2[CuO]4[NaO0.5]4[dppmO2]2, where dppm-1,1-bis(diphenylphosphino)methane; (2,3-η-1,4-diphenylbut-2-en-1,4-dione)undecacarbonyl triangulotriosmium; phenylsilsesquioxane [(PhSiO1.5)10(CoO)5(NaOH)]; bi- and tri-nuclear oxidovanadium(V) complexes [{VO(OEt)(EtOH)}2(L2)] and [{VO(OMe)(H2O)}3(L3)]·2H2O (L2 = bis(2-hydroxybenzylidene)terephthalohydrazide and L3 = tris(2-hydroxybenzylidene)benzene-1,3,5-tricarbohydrazide); [Mn2L2O3][PF6]2 (L = 1,4,7-trimethyl-1,4,7-triazacyclononane). For comparison, articles are introduced describing catalysts for the oxidation of alkanes and alcohols with peroxides, which are simple metal salts or mononuclear metal complexes. In many cases, polynuclear complexes exhibit higher activity compared to mononuclear complexes and exhibit increased regioselectivity, for example, in the oxidation of linear alkanes. The review contains a description of some of the mechanisms of catalytic reactions. Additionally presented are articles comparing the rates of oxidation of solvents and substrates under oxidizing conditions for various catalyst structures, which allows researchers to conclude about the nature of the oxidizing species. This review is focused on recent works, as well as review articles and own original studies of the authors.

Abstract
ZrOx/SiO2 and VOx/ZrOx/SiO2 catalysts (5 wt %–25 wt % Zr, 4 wt % V) were prepared by grafting zirconium and vanadium alkoxides on Aerosil 380. All samples were characterized by temperature programmed reduction, N2 physisorption, X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy, and ammonia adsorption microcalorimetry. Tetragonal ZrO2 and zircon (ZrSiO4) were present at 25 wt % Zr, but only amorphous zirconia overlayer existed for lower loadings. At lower Zr loadings (5 wt %–10 wt % Zr), exposed silica surface leads to V2O5 crystallites and isolated VO4 species, although V reducibility behavior changes, from being similar to VOx/SiO2 (5 wt % Zr) to showing VOx/ZrO2 behavior at 10 wt % Zr, and a diminished total amount of reducible V. Highly acidic ZrO2 sites are covered by the vanadium grafting, forming weaker sites (60–100 kJ/mol NH3 adsorption strength). Catalytic conversion and selectivity for the oxidative dehydrogenation of n-butane (673 K, n-C4/O2 = 2.2) over VOx/ZrOx/SiO2 show that 1,3-butadiene is favored over cis-2-butene and trans-2-butene, although there is some selectivity to the 2-butenes when VOx/ZrO2 behavior is evident. At low Zr loadings, butadiene formed during reaction acts as the diene species in a Diels–Alder reaction and gives rise to a cyclic compound that undergoes further dehydrogenation to produce benzaldehyde.

Abstract
An unusual skeletal rearrangement of piperazine into ethylenediamine has been observed for the first time as a result of an attempt to synthesize a piperazine-linked metal-organic framework (MOF) using cage Cu(II),Na-phenylsilsequixane as a potential building block. Instead of the expected "metallasilsesquioxane-based MOF", a Cu6 complex 1 coordinated both by silsesquioxane and ethylenediamine ligands was isolated. An effort to reproduce this result via direct interaction of Cu-phenylsilsequioxane and ethylenediamine surprisingly afforded two other types of complexes, copper-sodium 2 and copper 3 ionic products. Cationic components in both products 2 and 3 are represented by (i) copper and sodium ions (in the case of 2) or (ii) copper ions exclusively (in the case of 3) coordinated by ethylenediamine ligands. Both complexes 2 and 3 include Si6-based condensed silsesquioxane fragments serving as anionic components of the products. Symptomatically, the types of the Si6-frameworks in 2 and 3 are drastically different. More specifically, the Si6 unit in 2 is an unprecedented distorted silsesquioxane skeleton consisting of two condensed tetramembered rings. Structural features of compounds 1-3 were established by single crystal X-ray diffraction. Compound 2 was found to catalyze the oxidation of cyclohexane to cyclohexanol and cyclohexanone with H2O2 (a mixture of these products was obtained after adding PPh3 to the reaction solution) as well as the transformation of cyclohexanol to cyclohexanone under the action of tert-butyl hydroperoxide.

Abstract
Ligands are innocent when they allow oxidation states of the central atoms to be defined. A noninnocent (or redox) ligand is a ligand in a metal complex where the oxidation state is not clear. Dioxygen can be a noninnocent species, since it exists in two oxidation states, i.e., superoxide (O2−) and peroxide (O22−). This review is devoted to oxidations of C–H compounds (saturated and aromatic hydrocarbons) and alcohols with peroxides (hydrogen peroxide, tert-butyl hydroperoxide) catalyzed by complexes of transition and nontransition metals containing innocent and noninnocent ligands. In many cases, the oxidation is induced by hydroxyl radicals. The mechanisms of the formation of hydroxyl radicals from H2O2 under the action of transition (iron, copper, vanadium, rhenium, etc.) and nontransition (aluminum, gallium, bismuth, etc.) metal ions are discussed. It has been demonstrated that the participation of the second hydrogen peroxide molecule leads to the rapture of O–O bond, and, as a result, to the facilitation of hydroxyl radical generation. The oxidation of alkanes induced by hydroxyl radicals leads to the formation of relatively unstable alkyl hydroperoxides. The data on regioselectivity in alkane oxidation allowed us to identify an oxidizing species generated in the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide: (hydroxyl radical or another species). The values of the ratio-of-rate constants of the interaction between an oxidizing species and solvent acetonitrile or alkane gives either the kinetic support for the nature of the oxidizing species or establishes the mechanism of the induction of oxidation catalyzed by a concrete compound. In the case of a bulky catalyst molecule, the ratio of hydroxyl radical attack rates upon the acetonitrile molecule and alkane becomes higher. This can be expanded if we assume that the reactions of hydroxyl radicals occur in a cavity inside a voluminous catalyst molecule, where the ratio of the local concentrations of acetonitrile and alkane is higher than in the whole reaction volume. The works of the authors of this review in this field are described in more detail herein.

Abstract
Two novel space craft-like octanuclear Co(II)-silsesquioxane nanocages, {Co8[(MeSiO2)4]2(dmpz)8} (SD/Co8a) and {Co8[(PhSiO2)4]2(dmpz)8} (SD/Co8b) (SD = SunDi; Hdmpz = 3,5-dimethylpyrazole), have been constructed from two similar multidentate silsesquioxane ligands assisted with a pyrazole ligand. The Co8 skeleton consists of eight tetrahedral Co(II) ions arranged in a ring and is further capped by two (MeSiO2)4 ligands up and down. The auxiliary dmpz- ligands seal the ring finally. Electrospray ionization mass spectrometry revealed SD/Co8a and SD/Co8b are highly stable in CH2Cl2. Magnetic analysis implies that SD/Co8a announces antiferromagnetic interactions between Co(II) ions. Moreover, both of them display good homogeneous catalytic activity for hydroboration of ketones in the presence of pinacolborane under mild conditions.

Abstract
Unusual high-cluster (Cu9) cage phenylsilsesquioxanes were obtained via complexation of in situ CuII,Na-silsesquioxane species formed with phenanthroline and neocuproine. In the first case, phenanthroline, acting as "a silent ligand" (not participating in the composition of the final product), favors the formation of an unprecedented cagelike phenylsilsesquioxane of Cu9Na6 nuclearity, 1. In the second case, neocuproine ligands withdraws two Cu ions from the metallasilsesquioxane matrix, producing two cationic fragments Cu+(neocuproine)2. The remaining metallasilsesquioxane is rearranged into an anionic cage of Cu9Na4 nuclearity, finalizing the formation of a specific ionic complex, 2. The impressive molecular architecture of both types of complexes, e.g., the presence of different (cyclic/acyclic) types of silsesquioxane ligands, was established by single-crystal X-ray diffraction studies. Compound 1 was revealed to be highly active in the oxidative amidation of benzylic alcohol and the catalyst loading could be reduced down to 100 ppm of Cu. Catalytic studies of compound 1 demonstrated its high activity in hydroperoxidation of alkanes with H2O2 and oxidation of alcohols to ketones with tert-BuOOH.

Abstract
Polyphenylsilsesquioxane (PhSiO3/2) particles as an organic-inorganic hybrid were prepared using sol-gel method, and monolithic samples were obtained via a warm-pressing. The reaction mechanism of particles' polymerization and transformation to the monolith under the warm-press were investigated using solid state 29Si nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectrometer, thermal gravimetric-differential thermal analyzer (TG-DTA), mass spectrometer (MS) and scanning electron microscope (SEM). Transparent and void-free monoliths are successfully obtained by warm-pressing above 180 °C. Both the terminal ⁻OH groups on particles' surface and warm-pressing are necessary for preparation of void-free PhSiO3/2 monolith. From the load-displacement measurement at various temperatures, a viscoelastic deformation is seen for PhSiO3/2 monolith with voids. On the other hand, an elastic deformation is seen for void-free PhSiO3/2 monolith, and the void-free monolith shows much higher breakdown voltage.

Abstract
The synthesis, composition, and catalytic properties of a new family of hexanuclear Cu(II)-based phenylsilsesquioxanes are described here. Structural studies of 17 synthesized compounds revealed the general principle underlying their molecular topology: viz., a central metal oxide layer consisting of two Cu3 trimers is coordinated by two cyclic [PhSiO1.5]5 siloxanolate ligands to form a skewed sandwich architecture with the composition [(PhSiO1.5)10(CuO)6]2+. In addition to this O ligation by the siloxanolate rings, two opposite copper ions are additionally coordinated by the nitrogen atoms of corresponding N ligand(s), such as 2,2'-bipyridine (compounds 1-9), 1,10-phenanthroline (compounds 10-13), mixed 1,10-phenanthroline/2,2'-bipyridine (compound 14), or bathophenanthroline (compounds 15-17). Finally, the charge balance is maintained by two HO- (compounds 1-7, 10-13, and 15-17), two H3CO- (compound 8), or two CH3COO- (compounds 9 and 14) anions. Complexes 1 and 10 exhibited a high activity in the oxidative amidation oxidation of alcohols. Compounds 1, 10, and 15 are very efficient homogeneous catalysts in the oxidation of alkanes and alcohols with peroxides.

Abstract
A new family of bi-, tetra-, penta-, and hexanickel cagelike phenylsilsesquioxanes 1-6 was obtained by self-assembly and transmetalation procedures. Their crystal structures were established by single-crystal X-ray analysis, and features of crystal packing relevant to the network formation were studied by a topological analysis. Compounds 1, 2, and 4 are isolated architectures, while 3, 5, and 6 present extended 1D and 3D networks. The investigation of magnetic properties revealed the presence of ferro- (1 and 3-5) or antiferromagnetic (2 and 6) interactions between Ni(II) ions, giving rise in the most cases (1, 2, and 4-6) to the presence of a slow relaxation of the magnetization, which can originate from the spin frustration.

Abstract
New hexanuclear nickel(II) silsesquioxane [(PhSiO1.5)12(NiO)6(NaCl)] (1) was synthesized as its dioxane-benzonitrile-water complex (PhSiO1,5)12(NiO)6(NaCl)(C4H8O2)13(PhCN)2(H2O)2 and studied by X-ray and topological analysis. The compound exhibits cylinder-like type of molecular architecture and represents very rare case of polyhedral complexation of metallasilsesquioxane with benzonitrile. Complex 1 exhibited catalytic activity in activation of such small molecules as light alkanes and alcohols. Namely, oxidation of alcohols with tert-butylhydroperoxide and alkanes with meta-chloroperoxybenzoic acid. The oxidation of methylcyclohexane gave rise to the isomeric ketones and unusual distribution of alcohol isomers.

Abstract
The transmetalation of bimetallic copper-sodium silsesquioxane cages, namely, [(PhSiO1.5 )10 (CuO)2 (NaO0.5 )2 ] ("Cooling Tower"; 1), [(PhSiO1.5 )12 (CuO)4 (NaO0.5 )4 ] ("Globule"; 2), and [(PhSiO1.5 )6 (CuO)4 (NaO0.5 )4 (PhSiO1.5 )6 ] ("Sandwich"; 3), resulted in the generation of three types of hexanuclear cylinder-like copper silsesqui- oxanes, [(PhSiO1.5 )12 (CuO)6 (C4 H9 OH)2 (C2 H5 OH)6 ] (4), [(PhSiO1.5 )12 (CuO)6 (C4 H8 O2 )4 (PhCN)2 (MeOH)4 ] (5), and [(PhSiO1.5 )12 (CuO)6 (NaCl)(C4 H8 O2 )12 (H2 O)2 ] (6). The products show a prominent "solvating system-structure" dependency, as determined by X-ray diffraction. Topological analysis of cages 1-6 was also performed. In addition, DFT theory was used to examine the structures of the Cooling Tower and Cylinder compounds, as well as the spin density distributions. Compounds 1, 2, and 5 were applied as catalysts for the direct oxidation of alcohols and amines into the corresponding amides. Compound 6 is an excellent catalyst in the oxidation reactions of benzene and alcohols.

Abstract
Two new metal-organic compounds {[Cu3(μ3-4-ptz)4(μ2-N3)2(DMF)2](DMF)2}n (1) and {[Cu(4-ptz)2(H2O)2]}n (2) {4-ptz = 5-(4-pyridyl)tetrazolate} with 3D and 2D coordination networks, respectively, have been synthesized while studying the effect of reaction conditions on the coordination modes of 4-pytz by employing the [2 + 3] cycloaddition as a tool for generating in situ the 5-substituted tetrazole ligands from 4-pyridinecarbonitrile and NaN3 in the presence of a copper(ii) salt. The obtained compounds have been structurally characterized and the topological analysis of 1 discloses a topologically unique trinodal 3,5,6-connected 3D network which, upon further simplification, results in a uninodal 8-connected underlying net with the bcu (body centred cubic) topology driven by the [Cu3(μ2-N3)2] cluster nodes and μ3-4-ptz linkers. In contrast, the 2D metal-organic network in 2 has been classified as a uninodal 4-connected underlying net with the sql [Shubnikov tetragonal plane net] topology assembled from the Cu nodes and μ2-4-ptz linkers. The catalytic investigations disclosed that 1 and 2 act as active catalyst precursors towards the microwave-assisted homogeneous oxidation of secondary alcohols (1-phenylethanol, cyclohexanol, 2-hexanol, 3-hexanol, 2-octanol and 3-octanol) with tert-butylhydroperoxide, leading to the yields of the corresponding ketones up to 86% (TOF = 430 h(-1)) and 58% (TOF = 290 h(-1)) in the oxidation of 1-phenylethanol and cyclohexanol, respectively, after 1 h under low power (10 W) microwave irradiation, and in the absence of any added solvent or additive.
