Abstract
OBJECTIVES To examine the micro tensile bond strength (μTBS) and the resin-dentin interface on a laser-irradiated dentin surface using two different irradiation methods, with or without additional low-energy irradiation. METHODS The flat bovine dentin surface was divided into three groups: i). control group (C group, no irradiation), ii) 80 mJ/pulse Er: YAG laser group (80 group), iii) 80 + 30 mJ/pulse Er: YAG laser group (80 + 30 group, with an additional 30 mJ/pulse). After the roughness of the dentin surface was recorded, Clearfil SE Bond 2 or Clearfil Universal Bond Quick (Kuraray Noritake Dental Inc., Tokyo, Japan) was applied. After the μTBS testing, the failure mode was observed. The bonded interface was assessed using Rhodamine-dye incorporated adhesives and observed by optical coherence tomography. RESULTS The dentin surface showed opened dentinal tubules without a smear layer after irradiation. For both adhesives, the μTBS was significantly higher in 80 + 30 group than in the 80 group (p < 0.05). In the 80 group, the thickness of the adhesive layer was not uniform, and the dentin surface was occasionally in direct contact with the composite resin. The failure mode images showed that most of the fractures in the 80 group were at the sub-surface of irradiated dentin. The adhesive layers of the 80 + 30 groups were homogeneous. CONCLUSIONS The dentin surface was rough and irregular by 80 mJ irradiation, which might result in an inadequate resin-dentin interface and the weak μTBS. The bonded integrity was mitigated by additional irradiation.

Abstract
This study was aimed to evaluate the effects of Er:YAG and Er,Cr:YSGG laser irradiation and adhesive systems on the microtensile bond strength of Fusio Liquid Dentin (FLD) which is a self-adhering composite (SAC). Twenty-four freshly extracted human molar teeth were collected, and the enamel was removed from the occlusal surface to obtain a flat dentin surface. Twenty-four teeth were randomly divided into eight groups: Group 1: only Fusio Liquid Dentin (FLD) (Petron Clinical, Orange, California, USA) was applied to the dentin surface; Group 2: 37% Phosphoricacid (i-GEL, Medicinos Linija UAB, Lithuania) + FLD; Group 3: Single Bond Universal (SBU) (3 M ESPE, Germany) + FLD; Group 4: Adper Easy One (AEO) (3 M ESPE, Germany) + FLD; Group 5: Er:YAG laser + AEO + FLD; Group 6: Er:YAG laser + SBU + FLD; Group 7: Er,Cr:YSGG laser + AEO + FLD; and Group 8: Er,Cr:YSGG laser + SBU + FLD. After thermocycling, 1 × 1 mm2 sticks were used for the µTBS test (n = 10). Two sticks per group were used for SEM analysis. Fractured sample surfaces were evaluated using a stereomicroscope. Group 8 showed the highest µTBS value (13.70 MPa), whereas Group 1 showed the lowest μTBS value (5.60 MPa). There were no significant differences between Groups 2, 3, and 4 (P = 0.324), but Groups 5-8 showed statistically significant results that were higher than Groups 1-4 (P = 0.012). Adhesive failure mode was predominant followed by mixed failure. The evaluation of bonding of the FLD to dentin showed that the combined use of Er:YAG and Er,Cr:YSGG lasers with SBU and AEO on dentin surfaces improved the dentinal bond strength of the FLD.

Abstract
At present, lasers are increasingly used in the oral clinical field, and research and applications in dental hard tissue treatment are also increasing. The effect of laser etching dentin on the bonding strength of composite resin reported in the literature is still inconclusive. The purpose of this review was to evaluate whether laser etching can improve the immediate and long-term bonding strength of dentin and investigate the effect of different types of adhesives on the bonding strength of dentin. Two reviewers performed a literature search up from January 2012 to November 2021 in four databases: MEDLINE (PubMed), Web of Science, EMBASE, and the Cochrane Library. A total of 25 studies were included in the meta-analysis. The Cochrane Collaboration Bias Risk Assessment tool was used to evaluate the quality of the included literature, and an analysis was carried out using Review Manager Software version 5.3. The aging bond strength of dentin after erbium (Er): yttrium aluminum garnet (YAG) laser treatment was significantly lower than that of dentin in the bur group (P < 0.00001). At the same time, the bond strength of dentin immediately and aging after (Er), chromium-doped (Cr): yttrium scandium gallium garnet (YSGG) laser treatment was lower than that of dentin in the bur group (P < 0.05). There was no significant difference in the immediate and aging bonding strength among samples in the Er: YAG laser, Er, Cr: YSGG laser, and blank control groups (no laser or bur). The aging bond strength of samples after neodymium-doped (Nd): YAG laser treatment was higher than that of samples in the blank control group (P < 0.05); in addition, the performance of self-etching adhesive was slightly better than that of acid etching adhesive. Regardless of the applied surface treatment and the adhesive employed, dentin after aging showed significant bond degradation (P < 0.05). There was high heterogeneity of bond strength between different groups, and the small number of studies and the contradictory results may be the main reasons for this outcome.

Abstract
Aim: The present in vitro study aimed to evaluate the bond strength of a bulk fill composite on dentin surfaces prepared with the Er: YAG laser. Methods: Twenty-four permanent third molars were selected and divided into 2 groups: CP - Conventional preparation with high-speed handpiece (control) and LA (laser) - Preparation with Er: YAG laser. The occlusal surface was removed to expose coronal dentin, which was subsequently prepared with a high-speed handpiece or Er: YAG laser (350mJ, 4Hz, 1.5 ml/min water flow). Both groups were restored with Filtek One Bulk Fill (3M ESPE) composite resin. After 24 hours, the samples were evaluated for microtensile bond strength (μTBS), fracture pattern, and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Results: The data obtained in the μTBS test were submitted to t-test (α=0.05). The results showed no difference in μTBS when the different types of cavity preparation were compared (ρ=0.091). Fracture patterns revealed the prevalence of cohesive fracture in composite resin in CP (83.3%) and adhesive fracture in LA (92.1%). In the SEM analysis, the LA group demonstrated the presence of gaps between the composite resin and the irradiated dentin surface. The hybrid layer exhibited more regularity with the presence of longer and uniform resin tags in the CP group. Conclusion: The type of cavity preparation did not influence the values of bulk fill composite resin μTBS to dentin. Fracture patterns and scanning electron microscopy analyses suggested less interference at the adhesive interface in preparations performed using CP.

Abstract
This study evaluated the effects of Erbium-doped yttrium aluminium garnet (Er:YAG) laser settings and dentin bonding agents on ultramorphological characteristics of resin-laser-irradiated dentin interfaces and dentin bond strength (BS) of these adhesive systems. Additionally, dentin depth affected by Er:YAG laser irradiations was measured. The experiments were performed on occlusal dentin surfaces of third molars that were flattened with 600-grit SiC sandpaper. Treated-dentin with laser settings (250 mJ/4 Hz and 160 mJ/10 Hz) were the experimental groups, while SiC abraded dentin was the control. These three dentin treatments and three adhesives (two self-etchings and one etch-&-rinse adhesive) formed nine groups for the ultramorphology of laser-ablated dentin-adhesives interfacial analysis, using a transmission electron microscope (TEM). For BS (n = 8), the same nine groups were tested with addition of the two evaluation times (24 h after sample preparation or 1 year). The depths of Er:YAG laser effects into the dentin were measured using a TEM (n = 10). Ablated-dentin depth and BS data were analyzed by one- and three-way ANOVA, respectively, and Tukey's test (α = 0.05). Hybrid layer formation was only observed for controls, while for laser-treated dentin, adhesives were bonded to dentin with resin tags formation. Laser settings reduced the BS for all adhesives at 24 h, while at 1 year, etch-&-rinse adhesive presented the highest BS, regardless treatment (control or laser settings). Dentin depth affected by laser settings was similar. The laser irradiation altered the bonding mechanism of the adhesives to dentin and reduced the BS for self-etching adhesives. Etch-&-rinse adhesive yielded the highest BS at 1 year. Laser settings similarly affected the dentin in depth.

Abstract
Purpose To assess the efficacy of Er,Cr:YSGG lasers in reducing dentine hypersensitivity (DH). Methods Electronic literature were searched through various databases (MEDLINE, SCOPUS, ProQuest, LILACS and EBSCO) up to March 2022 for articles addressing the following focused question: “In patients with dentine hypersensitivity, does an Er,Cr:YSGG laser provide a better outcome in terms of pain reduction than other dentine desensitizer agents?”. The literature was searched using combinations of the following medical subject heading (MeSH) terms and keywords: (laser OR phototherapy OR Er,Cr:YSGG laser) AND (dentine hypersensitivity OR dentine sensitivity OR dental sensitivity). Results A total of 486 studies were found, of which 7 randomized controlled trials were included in the review. The Er,Cr:YSGG laser wavelengths, power density and duration of irradiation used in the studies were 2780 nanometers, 0.25–0.5 watts and 20–60 seconds, respectively. The follow-up assessments were conducted ranging from immediately to 3 months after treatment. All studies showed that the Er,Cr:YSGG laser was effective in alleviating DH. Conclusion This systematic review suggests that the application of an Er,Cr:YSSG laser is effective in alleviating DH and may have limited adverse effects if adequate parameters are followed.

Abstract
Statement of problem Recently, the application of lasers in restorative dentistry has been considered for cavity preparation and surface conditioning of enamel and dentin. However, the beneficial effects of cavity surface conditioning by laser irradiation on microleakage are still controversial. Purpose This study aimed to compare the microleakage of self-etch adhesive resin cement with Nd:YAG and Er:YAG laser tooth surface conditioning to evaluate the capabilities of these lasers as a reliable replacement for etching cavities. Materials and methods Fifty-four class V cavities were prepared on the buccal and lingual surfaces of 27 sound human premolar teeth. The samples were randomly divided into three groups (n = 18): group 1: no conditioning; group 2: conditioned with Er:YAG laser (2940 nm, 10 Hz, 1.2 W); group 3: conditioned with Nd:YAG laser (1064 nm, 1.5 W, 10 Hz). All the cavities were filled with self-adhesive resin cement. After curing and polishing, the samples were immersed in 2% methylene blue solution for 24 h, and after being embedded in acrylic resin, they were sectioned longitudinally and examined under a stereomicroscope. The data were submitted to Kruskal–Wallis and Dunn tests (α = 0.05). Results The lowest microleakage mean rank was observed in the Er:YAG group (19.19), and the highest mean rank was noted in the Nd:YAG group (33.08), with significant differences between the three groups (P-value = .01). Pairwise comparisons demonstrated significant differences between the Er:YAG and Nd:YAG groups (P-value = .004) as well as Er:YAG and no conditioned groups (P-value =.022). Conclusion The irradiation of the Er:YAG laser (2940 nm, 10 Hz, 1.2 W) on cavity surface resulted in less marginal microleakage of self-etch adhesive resin cement restorations compared to Nd:YAG (1064 nm, 1.5 W, 10 Hz) and no conditioning groups.

Abstract
Introduction: Erbium laser ablation as a method of tooth preparation and conditioning has shown promising results. Although previous studies have adopted various combinations of different laser parameters and several dentin adhesive systems, very few have investigated combining high-level and low-level ER:YAG lasers with Universal adhesives. This study aimed to assess the impact of using low-energy irradiation on the surface micro-topography and shear bond strength (SBS) of universal adhesive (UA) to the erbium:yttrium-aluminum-garnet (Er:YAG) laser-ablated dentin substrate, bonded in etch-and-rinse or self-etch adhesive mode. Methods: Eighty-seven extracted molars were sectioned to expose flat occlusal dentin surface; 60 teeth were divided equally into three groups according to the surface treatment; bur-cutting (B), Er:YAG high-energy laser cutting (L1 - 200 mJ, 20 Hz, 50 μs pulse), or L1 followed by low-energy laser modification (L1 /L2 - 80 mJ, 10 Hz, 50 μs pulse). Then each group was equally divided into two groups (n=10) according to the mode of application of the universal adhesive; either etch-and-rinse (ER) or self-etching (SE). The samples were subjected to thermocycling (5000 cycle between 5°C and 55°C), and SBS was tested. Two-way ANOVA and Tukey post hoc test were used to analyze the results. The remaining 27 samples were used to investigate the effect of the treatment on the topography of the treated dentin surfaces using a scanning electron microscope (SEM). Results: B/SE recorded the highest SBS (25.48 ± 2.6 MPa) followed by B/ER (23.20 ± 6.8 MPa) and L1 /L2 /SE (22.94 ± 4.1 MPa) and with no statistically significant difference between these groups (P >0.05). The lowest SBS results (P <0.05) were recorded for L1/SE (12.22 ± 3 MPa). No statistical differences were found between the SBS of L1 /L2 /ER and L1 /ER groups or between the SBS of L1 /L2 / ER and L1 /L2 /SE groups. Conclusion: A subsequent treatment of the Er:YAG laser-ablated dentin with low-energy laser modification mode (LMM) enhances the SBS of the tested UA when applied in SE mode.

Abstract
This study aimed to compare marginal adaptation in enamel and dentin before and after aging of laser vs. bur-prepared mixed class V cavities restored by different restorative systems. Seventy two caries-free human molars were distributed to nine experimental groups; cavities were prepared using two different lasers: a handpiece -integrated 2.94 μm Er:YAG laser at 4.5 W, 300 mJ, and 0.75 W, 50 mJ with 15 Hz (LiteTouch, Light Instruments, Israel) and a novel CO2 laser at 12.95 W, 19.3 mJ, and 4.1 W, 6.11 mJ with 671 Hz (Solea 9.3 μm, Convergent Dental, USA). Cavities prepared with conventional diamond burs (Intensiv, Switzerland) in a red contra angle at high speed under maximal water cooling served as control. Cavities were prepared under simulation of dentinal fluid and restored using three different self-etching universal adhesives in combination with three nanohybrid composites, applied in two layers: Scotchbond Universal with Filtek Supreme XTE (3M, USA), G-Premio BOND with Essentia Universal (GC, Japan), and OptiBond Universal with Harmonize Universal (Kerr, USA). After restorations' polishing and simultaneous thermal (5–50°C, 2 min each) and mechanical loading (max. 49 N; 200,000 cycles), replicas of restoration margins were examined under SEM at × 200 magnification. Percentages of continuous margins (CMs) were quantified before and after the fatigue test and statistically compared (two-way ANOVA with Fisher's least significant difference [LSD] post hoc test). Significant differences were found in almost all groups between the results before and after the fatigue test, as well as between the different preparation tools and restorative materials (p < 0.05). Traditional bur preparations are confirmed as gold standard in enamel and dentin, as all three tested restorative systems provide results of marginal adaptation of more than 80% CM after loading. Er:YAG laser preparations can be equally effective in combination with SBU/Filtek Supreme XTE. CO2 laser ablation could not provide convincing results with the tested self-etching restorative systems. Marginal adaptation has been highly dependent on the substrate and showed impaired adhesion, especially in enamel. Scotchbond Universal/Filtek Supreme XTE showed the highest and most stable values of CM. The other two restorative systems were highly dependent on the preparation device of the substrate.

Abstract
Introduction: In non-vital tooth bleaching, dentin is in direct contact with the bleaching agent, 1 to 3-week delay is needed to eliminate free radicals from tooth structure. The present study aimed to evaluate the effect of irradiation of Er: YAG laser on immediate microtensile bond strength of bleached dentin to composite. Methods: Sixty sounds human teeth were collected and randomly divided into 4 groups (n=15): no bleaching (NB), opalescence endo hydrogen peroxide (HP) gel bleaching, sodium perborate (SP) bleaching and laser bleaching with heydent gel (LB). The groups were divided into 3 subgroups (n=5): no surface treatment, Er: YAG laser irradiation and 10% sodium ascorbate (SA). All samples were restored and underwent microtensile bond strength testing. Statistical analysis was carried out using one-way and two-way ANOVA. Results: Bond strength in NB-SA group had a significant difference with the NB group (P<0.05) while no significant difference was noted between NB and NB-Er groups (P=0.55). Application of SA and Er: YAG laser after bleaching with SP did not enhance the bond strength (P=0.07). Conclusion: Application of SA and Er: YAG laser after HP gel bleaching significantly enhanced the bond strength. Application of Er: YAG laser after internal bleaching with HP gel could enhance the bond strength.

Abstract
Background: In dentistry, cavities prepared with Erbium lasers present more advantages, compared to traditional methods, but there is still a lack of investigation about the adhesion in dentin surfaces prepared with Erbium lasers, especially with Erbium, chromium:yttrium-scandium-gallium-garnet (Er,Cr:YSGG) laser. Aim: The purpose of this systematic review was to find out which might be “The most adequate adhesive and laser parameters for adhesion in dentin prepared with Er,Cr:YSGG laser.” Methods: An electronic search was performed in the PubMed database. The search was limited to studies between 2009 and 2016. Results: Ten articles were selected to the systematic review according to TRANSPARENT REPORTING of Systematic Reviews and Meta-ANALYSES checklist. Conclusions: The adhesive that showed the best bond strength results in dentin prepared with Er,Cr:YSGG laser was the self-adhesive Clearfil™ SE (Kuraray), with preconditioning with 40% phosphoric acid. The settings 2 W, 75% water, 60% air, 140 μs pulse duration, and 20 Hz showed the best adhesion outcome.

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the thickness and qualitative characteristics of the hybrid layer after two cavity preparation methods, using Er:YAG laser in QSP mode and conventional carbide burs. Additionally, two different adhesive techniques were investigated using etch-and-rinse and self-etch adhesive systems. Sixty sound human third molars were used and were randomly divided into four groups (n = 15). In the first two groups, large (4 mm length, 3 mm wide, and 3 mm deep) class I cavities were prepared using Er:YAG laser (2.94 μm) in QSP mode, while in the other two groups, the cavities were prepared using carbide burs. After cavity preparations, two different adhesive techniques with GLUMA® 2 Bond (etch-and-rinse) and Clearfil™ Universal Bond Quick (self-etch) were applied. For the qualitative evaluation of the formed hybrid layer, photomicrographs were taken using SEM, and elemental semi-quantitative analysis was performed using EDS to confirm the extent of the hybrid layer. One-way ANOVA was applied to verify the existence of statistically significant differences, followed by Tukey test for post hoc comparisons (Bonferroni corrected), and the level of significance was set at a = 0.05. The laser-treated groups exhibited higher hybrid layer thickness than bur-treated groups (p < 0.001). Between the laser-treated groups, etch-and-rinse technique presented higher hybrid layer thickness than self-etch technique (p < 0.001), while between the bur-treated groups, no significant differences were detected (p = 0.366). Er:YAG laser cavity preparations in QSP mode may be advantageous for adhesion of composite restorations, but more data are necessary to confirm its clinical effectiveness.

Abstract
Introduction: The aim of this study was to assess the effect of surface treatment with erbium: yttrium-aluminum-garnet (Er:YAG) and erbium, chromium: yttrium-scandium-gallium-garnet (Er,Cr:YSGG) lasers on shear bond strength of composite resin to recently bleached dentin. Methods: In this study, 40 extracted human premolars were selected. The teeth were cut 4 mm apical to the cusp tip and were randomly divided into four groups (n=10 in each group) for shear bond strength testing. For bleaching, 35% hydrogen peroxide (H2 o2 ) gel (Opalescence Endo, Ultradent, South Jordan, UT, USA) was applied to dentin surfaces of all specimens for 10 days. Before etching and bonding, in Er,Cr:YSGG and Er:YAG laser groups, dentin surfaces were irradiated with Er,Cr:YSGG and Er:YAG lasers, respectively. In Er,Cr:YSGG group, Er:YAG group and control group, composite restoration was performed immediately after bleaching while in common procedure group, composite restoration was performed after seven days. The teeth were then subjected to shear bond strength testing machine. The data were statistically analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey test. Results: The mean and standard deviation (SD) of shear bond strength was 4.3 ± 1.4 MPa for control group, 6.7 ± 2.0 Mpa for Er,Cr:YSGG group, 14.4 ± 3.7 Mpa for Er:YAG group and 19.4 ± 2.6 Mpa for common procedure group. Conclusion: The shear strength of composite to Er:YAG laser-treated bleached dentin was significantly higher than control group while significantly lower than common procedure.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The aim of the present study was to conduct a review of the literature about adhesion on erbium laser prepared cavities, related to the specific conditions of the irradiated dentin substrate and the effects on bond strength values. BACKGROUND DATA Advances in adhesive restorative techniques significantly influenced modern restorative dentistry. The concept of "minimally invasive dentistry" aims to perform more conservative treatment of cavities in which the removal of sound dentin is no longer necessary. This approach, which relies on the concept of adhesion of restorative materials to the mineralized dental tissues, is considered to be a contemporary outcome in dentistry. Similarly, laser technology in restorative dentistry opened new possibilities and strategies as alternatives to conventional treatment. Considering the clinical aspects of the use of erbium lasers for caries removal, cavity preparations, and substrate conditioning, treatment with lasers can be considered to be an efficient technique with wide acceptance by patients. METHODS Computerized and manual searches were conducted for studies through 2015 that addressed the topic. RESULTS According to the literature, there is no defined standard protocol concerning the information that articles must provide, making a definitive protocol very difficult to establish. Data varied from the type of adhesive and resin composite used, substrate, and parameters (power, energy density, pulse duration, irradiation time, distance, cooling system) to the bond strength test methodology used. CONCLUSIONS Further studies are necessary in order to define a standard protocol with positive results and higher bond strength values when using erbium lasers. Detailed information concerning laser parameters should be implemented. Also, longitudinal clinical studies should be developed in the search for new parameters that behave favorably in the irradiated substrate.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of laser irradiation on flexural strength, elastic modulus, and surface roughness and morphology of glass fiber posts (GFPs). BACKGROUND DATA Laser treatment of GFPs has been introduced to improve its adhesion properties. MATERIALS AND METHODS A total of 40 GFPs were divided into 4 groups according to the irradiation protocol: GC-no irradiation, GYAG-irradiation with erbium:yttrium-aluminum-garnet [Er:YAG], GCR-irradiation with erbium, chromium:yttrium-scandium-gallium-garnet (Er,Cr:YSGG), and GDI-irradiation with diode laser. The GFP roughness and morphology were evaluated through laser confocal microscopy before and after surface treatment. Three-point bending flexural test measured flexural strength and elastic modulus. Data about elastic modulus and flexural strength were subjected to one-way ANOVA and Bonferroni test (p < 0.05). The effect of roughness was evaluated using the linear mixed effects model and Bonferroni test (p < 0.05). RESULTS Laser treatment changed surface roughness in the groups GCR (p = 0.000) and GDI (p = 0.007). The mean flexural strength in GYAG (995.22 MPa) was similar to that in GC (980.48 MPa) (p = 1.000) but different from that in GCR (746.83 MPa) and that in GDI (691.34 MPa) (p = 0.000). No difference was found between the groups GCR and GDI (p = 0.86). For elastic modulus: GYAG (24.47 GPa) was similar to GC (25.92 GPa) (p = 1.000) but different from GCR (19.88 GPa) (p = 0.002) and GDI (17.20 GPa) (p = 0.000). CONCLUSIONS The different types of lasers, especially Er,Cr:YSGG and 980 ηm diode, influenced the mechanical properties of GFPs.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The objective of this study was to evaluate longitudinally the composite restorations, performed in cavities prepared by Er:YAG or conventional bur, and dentin re-wetting with water or chlorhexidine. MATERIALS AND METHODS Twenty individuals with four active caries with cavitation reaching the dentin located on the occlusal surface of molars counterparts are selected. The teeth of each individual were randomly assigned into four groups: (I) Er:YAG laser (260 mJ/4 Hz) re-wetting with chlorhexidine, (II) Er:YAG laser (260 mJ/4 Hz) re-wetting with deionized water, (III) conventional method re-wetting with chlorhexidine, and (IV) conventional method re-wetting with deionized water. The teeth were isolated, prepared cavities, phosphoric acid etching, and re-wetting according to previously assigned method. Restoration was performed employing the Single Bond 2 and Z350XT resin. Clinical follow-up was held after the polishing of the restoration (baseline) and 6 and 12 months of the making of the restoration using the modified USPHS criteria. The restorations were qualitatively analyzed by means of photographs. In the evaluation period, replicas of the restorations were analyzed by SEM. Data were analyzed by statistics using chi-square test (p < 0.05). RESULTS After 12 months of clinical evaluation, groups prepared with laser and re-wetting with chlorhexidine and water showed the lowest marginal staining value. There was no statistical difference between the groups for other factors. SEM analysis revealed that a non-expressive amount of restorations showed gaps and irregularities of tooth-restoration interface after 6 and 12 months compared to the baseline. CONCLUSION The restorations performed in laser-prepared cavities, regardless of the re-wetting, presented the best clinical performance over the evaluated period. CLINICAL RELEVANCE Laser-prepared teeth, regardless of re-wetting, showed greater resistance to marginal discoloration.

Abstract
This study evaluated the influence of the irradiation with a short-pulse Er:YAG laser on the adhesion of composite resin to sound and eroded dentin (SD and ED). Forty-six samples of occlusal dentine, obtained from human molars, had half of their surface protected, while the other half was submitted to erosive cycles. Afterward, 23 samples were irradiated with Er:YAG laser, resulting in four experimental groups: SD, sound irradiated dentine (SID—Er:YAG, 50 μs 50 μs , 2 Hz, 80 mJ, and 12.6 J/cm 2 12.6 J/cm2 ), ED, and eroded irradiated dentin (EID—erosion + Er:YAG laser). A self-etching adhesive system was used, and then cylinders of composite resin were prepared. A microshear bond strength test was performed after 24 h storage (n=20 n=20 ). The morphology of SD and ED, with or without Er:YAG laser irradiation, was evaluated under scanning electron microscopy (n=3 n=3 ). Bond strength values (MPa) were subjected to analysis of variance followed by Tukey’s test. Statistically significant differences were found among the experimental groups: SD (9.76±3.39 B 9.76±3.39 B ), SID (12.77±5.09 A 12.77±5.09 A ), ED (5.12±1.72 D 5.12±1.72 D ), and EID (7.62±3.39 C 7.62±3.39 C ). Even though erosion reduces the adhesion to dentin, the surface irradiation with a short-pulse Er:YAG laser increases adhesion to both ED and SD.
