Abstract
OBJECTIVES To investigate the feasibility of high-resolution integrated dynamic shimming echo planar imaging (iEPI) applied to rectal cancer. METHODS A total of seventy-eight patients with non-mucinous rectum adenocarcinoma were enrolled in this study. Using a prototype high-resolution iEPI sequence, high-resolution single-shot EPI (sEPI) sequence, and sEPI sequence, subjective and objective assessment and apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) value were measured for comparison. The spearman rank correlation analysis test and the receiver operating characteristic curve were performed to evaluate correlation between tumor ADC values, corresponding T stage, and differentiation degree of rectal cancer. RESULTS The subjective assessment of the image quality (IQ) of high-resolution iEPI was rated superior to high-resolution sEPI and sEPI by both readers (p < 0.001). Signal-to-noise ratio, contrast-to-noise, and signal-intensity ratio were significantly higher in high-resolution iEPI than the other two sequences (p < 0.001). There was no significant difference of tumor ADC values among three EPI sequences in the group of low- to well-differentiated rectal cancer. An inverse correlation was noted between ADC values on three DWI sequences and pathological T stage of rectal cancer (r = - 0.693, - 0.689, - 0.640, p < 0.001). The AUC values of high-resolution iEPI, high-resolution sEPI, and sEPI in predicting well-differentiated rectal cancer were 0.910, 0.761, and 0.725 respectively. CONCLUSIONS In conclusion, the high-resolution iEPI provided significantly higher IQ and stable ADC compared to another two sequences. High-resolution iEPI has the highest efficacy among three examined sequences in differentiation of rectal cancer with different degrees of differentiation. KEY POINTS • High-resolution iEPI provided a significantly better IQ than high-resolution sEPI and sEPI when assessing rectal cancer. • The AUC of high-resolution sEPI was the highest among three EPI sequences in predicting well-differentiated rectal cancer.

Abstract
Diffusion weighted imaging (DWI) serves as one of the most important functional magnetic resonance imaging techniques in abdominal and pelvic imaging. It is designed to reflect the diffusion of water molecules and is particularly sensitive to the malignancies. Yet, the limitations of image distortion and artifacts in single-shot DWI may hamper its widespread use in clinical practice. With recent technical advances in DWI, such as simultaneous multi-slice excitation, computed or reduced field-of-view techniques, as well as advanced shimming methods, it is possible to achieve shorter acquisition time, better image quality, and higher robustness in abdominopelvic DWI. This review discussed the recent advances of each DWI approach, and highlighted its future perspectives in abdominal and pelvic imaging, hoping to familiarize physicians and radiologists with the technical improvements in this field and provide future research directions.

Abstract
We aimed to evaluate the usefulness of a fast protocol of diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) with one excitation using 3T magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and a 16-channel breast coil. We analyzed 30 lesions from 27 women between February 2020 and June 2020. The visibility score (from 1 = extremely poor to 5 = excellent) and apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) value between one and four excitations were evaluated by two readers. The image acquisition time was 40 s for one excitation and 1 min 52 s for four excitations. The visibility scores were 4.630 ± 0.718 and 4.267 ± 1.015 for one excitation and 4.730 ± 0.691 and 4.200 ± 1.000 for four excitations by the two readers. There was no significant difference in the visibility (P = 0.184 and P = 0.423), mean ADC value (P = 0.918 and P = 0.417), and minimum ADC value (P = 0.936 and P = 0.443) between one and four excitations by the two readers. Despite the short acquisition time, the visibility score and ADC values of one-excitation DWI were comparable to that with four excitations. Our fast DWI protocol could provide reproducible visibility and ADC value, potentially helping radiologists to efficiently diagnose patients.

Abstract
Whole-body magnetic resonance imaging (WB-MRI) is an imaging method without ionising radiation that can provide WB coverage with a core protocol of essential imaging contrasts in less than 40 minutes, and it can be complemented with sequences to evaluate specific body regions as needed. In many cases, WB-MRI surpasses bone scintigraphy and computed tomography in detecting and characterising lesions, evaluating their response to therapy and in screening of high-risk patients. Consequently, international guidelines now recommend the use of WB-MRI in the management of patients with multiple myeloma, prostate cancer, melanoma and individuals with certain cancer predisposition syndromes. The use of WB-MRI is also growing for metastatic breast cancer, ovarian cancer and lymphoma as well as for cancer screening amongst the general population. In light of the increasing interest from clinicians and patients in WB-MRI as a radiation-free technique for guiding the management of cancer and for cancer screening, we review its technical basis, current international guidelines for its use and key applications.
