Abstract
Several studies have demonstrated the protective effects of melatonin against metabolic diseases, such as liver steatosis. However, its therapeutic effects have received less scrutiny. The present study aimed to explore melatonin's therapeutic effectiveness in treating non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) induced by a high-carbohydrate high-fat (HCHF) diet in rats. The NAFLD was developed in male Wistar rats using an HCHF diet for 8 weeks. Afterward, they were given melatonin orally for four weeks at doses of 5 mg/kg, 10 mg/kg, and 30 mg/kg, along with the HCHF diet. In addition, six age-matched healthy rats received the highest dose of melatonin (30 mg/kg) for the same duration. Rats on the HCHF diet exhibited obesity, dyslipidemia, hyperglycemia, glucose intolerance, insulin resistance, inflammation, oxidative stress, and liver injury (steatosis). Melatonin treatment at 10 mg/kg and 30 mg/kg reduced body weight, adiposity index, oxidative damage, and inflammation but did not affect impaired glucose metabolism induced by the HCHF diet. Meanwhile, the highest dose of melatonin (30 mg/kg) reduced the liver steatosis index in HCHF rats but caused mild liver damage in healthy rats. In conclusion, using melatonin demonstrated positive outcomes in treating NAFLD induced by the HCHF diet in rats, with no noteworthy effects observed in healthy rats. A moderate dosage of 10 mg/kg of melatonin proved to be a safer and more efficient method for reducing HCHF diet-induced NAFLD in rats. Higher melatonin doses should be cautiously administered due to potential disruptions in lipid metabolism and the risk of liver complications.

Abstract
Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic metabolic disease marked by hyperglycemia due to insulin deficiency or insulin resistance leading to many chronic complications. It is thus important to manage diabetes effectively in order to prevent and or delay these complications. Melatonin is produced by the pineal gland and regulates the wake-sleep circadian rhythm. Existing evidence suggests that melatonin may be effective in the management of DM. However, the evidence on the mechanism of the beneficial effect melatonin as a treatment for DM is limited. In this study, we investigated the effect of melatonin treatment on blood glucose, insulin (INS), AKT and superoxide dismutase (SOD) gene levels in diabetic rats. Non-diabetic and diabetic rats were treated orally for 4 weeks with either 25 mg or 50 mg/kg body weight of melatonin. At the end of the study, pancreatic and liver tissues morphology, glucose homeostasis, serum insulin and SOD levels, hepatic gene and protein expression of SOD as protecting antioxidant enzyme and AKT as central element involved in PI3K/AKT insulin signaling pathway were estimated. Melatonin treated diabetic rats showed reduced hyperglycemia, and increased serum insulin and SOD levels. In addition, melatonin induced an increased gene and protein expression of SOD and AKT. In conclusion, melatonin may play a role in treating diabetic rats via stimulation of insulin secretion, insulin signaling and reduction in oxidative stress.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The incidence of diabetic kidney disease (DKD) continues to rapidly increase, with limited available treatment options. One of the hallmarks of DKD is persistent inflammation, but the underlying molecular mechanisms of early diabetic kidney injury remain poorly understood. C-X-C chemokine receptor 2 (CXCR2), plays an important role in the progression of inflammation-related vascular diseases and may bridge between glomerular endothelium and persistent inflammation in DKD. METHODS Multiple methods were employed to assess the expression levels of CXCR2 and its ligands, as well as renal inflammatory response and endothelial glycocalyx shedding in patients with DKD. The effects of CXCR2 on glycocalyx shedding, and persistent renal inflammation was examined in a type 2 diabetic mouse model with Cxcr2 knockout specifically in endothelial cells (DKD-Cxcr2 eCKO mice), as well as in glomerular endothelial cells (GECs), cultured in high glucose conditions. RESULTS CXCR2 was associated with early renal decline in DKD patients, and endothelial-specific knockout of CXCR2 significantly improved renal function in DKD mice, reduced inflammatory cell infiltration, and simultaneously decreased the expression of proinflammatory factors and chemokines in renal tissue. In DKD conditions, glycocalyx shedding was suppressed in endothelial Cxcr2 knockout mice compared to Cxcr2 L/L mice. Modulating CXCR2 expression also affected high glucose-induced inflammation and glycocalyx shedding in GECs. Mechanistically, CXCR2 deficiency inhibited the activation of NF-κB signaling, thereby regulating inflammation, restoring the endothelial glycocalyx, and alleviating DKD. CONCLUSIONS Taken together, under DKD conditions, activation of CXCR2 exacerbates inflammation through regulation of the NF-κB pathway, leading to endothelial glycocalyx shedding and deteriorating renal function. Endothelial CXCR2 deficiency has a protective role in inflammation and glycocalyx dysfunction, suggesting its potential as a promising therapeutic target for DKD treatment.

Abstract
BACKGROUND In recent years, the role of autophagy has been highlighted in the pathogenesis of diabetes and inflammatory lung diseases. In this study, using a diabetic model of mice, we investigated the expression of autophagy-related genes in the lung tissues following melatonin administration. RESULTS Data showed histopathological remodeling in lung tissues of the D group coincided with an elevated level of IL-6, Becline-1, LC3, and P62 compared to the control group (p < 0.05). After melatonin treatment, histopathological remodeling was improved D + Mel group. In addition, expression levels of IL-6, Becline-1, LC3, and P62 were decreased in D + Mel compared to D group (P < 0.05). Statistically significant differences were not obtained between Mel group and C group (p > 0.05). CONCLUSION Our results showed that melatonin injection can be effective in the amelioration of lung injury in diabetic mice presumably by modulating autophagy-related genes.

Abstract
Objective The study aimed at investigating the effects of administering melatonin and a probiotic to streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats on hyperglycaemia, oxidative stress biomarkers and beta-cells. Design Type 1 diabetes was induced in 5 months-old male Wistar rats by single intraperitoneal (i.p.) administration of freshly-prepared STZ (60 mg/kg body weight). Six groups of 10 rats were used and treated once daily for six weeks; (1) Healthy control: normal saline only; (2) Pre-treated with Melatonin (MEL); (3) Diabetic control; (4) Diabetic + Treated with MEL; (5) Diabetic + Treated with Probiotic (Prob); (6) Diabetic + Treated with MEL + Prob. Blood glucose, body weight, activities of antioxidant enzymes and malondialdehyde concentration in serum and tissues, reduced glutathione and immunohistochemical assay. Data obtained were expressed as mean ± standard error of the mean (Mean ± SEM) and subjected to ANOVA followed by Tukey's post hoc test. Results Melatonin + Probiotic significantly decreased blood glucose concentrations in diabetic treated rats, compared to the diabetic control rats. MEL + Probiotic increased (p < 0.05) superoxide dismutase activity in serum and liver of diabetic rats. MEL + Probiotic reduced (p < 0.05) malondialdehyde concentration in the serum, liver and kidneys, respectively. MEL + Probiotic treated diabetic rats displayed islets with much greater content of insulin. Conclusion Melatonin + Probiotic combination was more effective in mitigating hyperglycaemia, oxidative stress, and exerted cytoprotective effect on the beta-cells.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The aim of this study was to investigate how melatonin administration affects retinal oxidative damage and retinal SIRT1 gene activation in diabetic elderly female rat model. METHODS 16-months-old female rats were used in the study. A total of 24 rats were divided into 4 groups in equal numbers: Group 1. Control, Group 2. Control + Melatonin, Group 3. Diabetes, Group 4. Diabetes + Melatonin. In group 3 and 4 rats, diabetes was induced by intraperitoneal (IP) injection of streptozotocin. Groups 2 and 4 were given ip melatonin for 4 weeks. SIRT-1 gene expression was determined by PCR method and GSH and MDA levels by ELISA in retinal tissue samples taken from animals sacrificed under general anesthesia. RESULTS In our study, the highest retinal SIRT1 expression values were obtained in the diabetes + melatonin (G4) group. The retinal SIRT1 expression values of the diabetes group (G3) were lower than group 4 and higher than the general control (G1) and control + melatonin (G2) groups. Again in our study, the highest retinal MDA values were obtained in the diabetes group (G3). The highest retinal GSH values were obtained in the Diabetes + melatonin group (G4). CONCLUSION The results of our study showed that melatonin supplementation has a protective effect on retinal tissue in a diabetic elderly female rat model. This protective effect of melatonin supplementation occurs by increasing both retinal antioxidant activity and retinal SIRT1 gene expression.

Abstract
Nanotechnology is used to overcome fundamental flaws in today's marketed pharmaceuticals that obstruct therapy, like restricted solubility and quick release of drugs into the bloodstream. In both human and animal researches, melatonin was demonstrated to regulate glucose levels. Despite the fact that melatonin is quickly transported through the mucosa, its sensitivity to be oxidized creates a difficulty in achieving the required dose. Additionally, due to its variable absorption and poor oral bioavailability necessitates the development of alternative delivery methods. The study aimed to synthesize melatonin loaded chitosan/lecithin (Mel-C/L) nanoparticles to be assessed in the treatment of streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetes in rats. The antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and cytotoxicity properties of nanoparticles were estimated to determine the safety of manufactured nanoparticles for in vivo studies. In addition, Mel-C/L nanoparticles were administered to rats for eight weeks after inducing hyperglycemia. The therapeutic effect of Mel-C/L nanoparticles was assessed in all experimental groups by detecting insulin and blood glucose levels; observing improvements in liver and kidney functions as well as histological and immunohistochemical evaluation of rats' pancreatic sections. The results proved that Mel-C/L nanoparticles showed remarkable anti-inflammatory, anti-coagulant, and anti-oxidant effects, in addition to its efficiency in reducing blood glucose levels of STZ-induced diabetic rats and great ability to promote the regeneration of pancreatic beta (β)-cells. Furthermore, Mel-C/L nanoparticles elevated the insulin level; and decreased the elevated levels of urea, creatinine and cholesterol. In conclusion, nanoparticles application decreased the administrated melatonin dose that in turn can diminish the side effects of free melatonin administration.

Abstract
Physiological processes occur in accordance with a rhythm regulated by the endogenous biological clock. This clock is programmed at the molecular level and synchronized with the daily light-dark cycle, as well as activities such as feeding, exercise, and social interactions. It consists of the core clock genes, Circadian Locomotor Output Cycles Protein Kaput (CLOCK) and Brain and Muscle Arnt-Like protein 1 (BMAL1), and their products, the period (PER) and cryptochrome (CRY) proteins, as well as an interlocked feedback loop which includes reverse-strand avian erythroblastic leukemia (ERBA) oncogene receptors (REV-ERBs) and retinoic acid-related orphan receptors (RORs). These genes are involved in the regulation of metabolic pathways and hormone release. Therefore, circadian rhythm disruption leads to development of metabolic syndrome (MetS). MetS refers to a cluster of risk factors (RFs), which are not only associated with the development of cardiovascular (CV) disease (CVD), but also with increased all-cause mortality. In this review, we consider the importance of the circadian rhythm in the regulation of metabolic processes, the significance of circadian misalignment in the pathogenesis of MetS, and the management of MetS in relation to the cellular molecular clock.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Nonalcoholic fatty pancreatitis (NAFP) is one of the metabolic syndrome manifestations that need further studies to determine its molecular determinants and find effective medications. We aimed to investigate the potential effect of benzyl propylene glycoside on NAFP management via targeting the pancreatic cGAS-STING pathway-related genes (DDX58, NFκB1 & CHUK) and their upstream regulator miRNA (miR-1976) that were retrieved from bioinformatics analysis. METHODS The rats were fed either normal chow or a high-fat high-sucrose diet (HFHS), as a nutritional model for NAFP. After 8 weeks, the HFHS-fed rats were subdivided randomly into 4 groups; untreated HFHS group (NAFP model group) and three treated groups which received 3 doses of benzyl propylene glycoside (10, 20, and 30 mg/kg) daily for 4 weeks, parallel with HFHS feeding. RESULTS The molecular analysis revealed that benzyl propylene glycoside could modulate the expression of the pancreatic cGAS-STING pathway-related through the downregulation of the expression of DDX58, NFκB1, and CHUK mRNAs and upregulation of miR-1976 expression. Moreover, the applied treatment reversed insulin resistance, inflammation, and fibrosis observed in the untreated NAFP group, as evidenced by improved lipid panel, decreased body weight and the serum level of lipase and amylase, reduced protein levels of NFκB1 and caspase-3 with a significant reduction in area % of collagen fibers in the pancreatic sections of treated animals. CONCLUSION benzyl propylene glycoside showed a potential ability to attenuate NAFP development, inhibit pancreatic inflammation and fibrosis and reduce the pathological and metabolic disturbances monitored in the applied NAFP animal model. The detected effect was correlated with modulation of the expression of pancreatic (DDX58, NFκB1, and CHUK mRNAs and miR-1976) panel.

Abstract
In many parts of the tropics, schistosomiasis is a major parasitic disease second only to malaria as a cause of morbidity and mortality. Diagnostic approaches include microscopic sampling of excreta such as the Kato-Katz method, radiography, and serology. Due to their vital role in many stages of the parasitic life cycle, proteases have been under investigation as targets of immunological or chemotherapeutic anti-Schistosoma agents. Five major classes of protease have been identified on the basis of the peptide hydrolysis mechanism: serine, cysteine, aspartic, threonine, and metalloproteases. Proteases of all five catalytic classes have been identified from S. mansoni through proteomic or genetic analysis. The study aimed to produce polyclonal antibodies (pAbs) against schistosomal cysteine proteases (CP) to be used in the diagnosis of schistosomiasis. This study was conducted on S. mansoni-infected patients from highly endemic areas and from outpatients' clinic and hospitals and other patients infected with other parasites (Fasciola, hookworm, hydatid, and trichostrongyloids). In this study, the produced polyclonal antibodies against S. mansoni cysteine protease antigens were labeled with horseradish peroxidase (HRP) conjugate and used to detect CP antigens in stool and serum samples of S. mansoni-infected patients by sandwich ELISA. The study involved 200 S. mansoni-infected patients (diagnosed by finding characteristic eggs in the collected stool samples), 100 patients infected with other parasites (Fasciola, hookworm, hydatid, and trichostrongyloids), and 100 individuals who served as parasite-free healthy negative control. The prepared pAb succeeded in detecting CP antigens in stool and serum samples of S. mansoni-infected patients by sandwich ELISA with a sensitivity of 98.5% and 98.0% respectively. A positive correlation was observed between S. mansoni egg counts and both stool and serum antigen concentrations. Purified 27.5 kDa CP could be introduced as a suitable candidate antigen for early immunodiagnosis using sandwich ELISA for antigen detection. KEY POINTS: • Detection of cysteine protease antigens can replace parasitological examination. • Sandwich ELISA has a higher sensitivity than microscopic examination of eggs. • Identification of antigens is important for the goal of obtaining diagnostic tools.

Abstract
Insulin is a hormone secreted by pancreatic β cells. The concentration of glucose in circulation is proportional to the secretion of insulin by these cells. In target cells, insulin binds to its receptors and activates phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase/protein kinase B, inducing different mechanisms depending on the cell type. In the liver it activates the synthesis of glycogen, in adipose tissue and muscle it allows the capture of glucose, and in the hypothalamus, it regulates thermogenesis and appetite. Defects in insulin function [insulin resistance (IR)] are related to the development of neurodegenerative diseases in obese people. Furthermore, in obesity and diabetes, its role as an anorexigenic hormone in the hypothalamus is diminished during IR. Therefore, hyperphagia prevails, which aggravates hyper-glycemia and IR further, becoming a vicious circle in which the patient cannot regulate their need to eat. Uncontrolled calorie intake induces an increase in reactive oxygen species, overcoming cellular antioxidant defenses (oxidative stress). Reactive oxygen species activate stress-sensitive kinases, such as c-Jun N-terminal kinase and p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase, that induce phos-phorylation in serine residues in the insulin receptor, which blocks the insulin signaling pathway, continuing the mechanism of IR. The brain and pancreas are organs mainly affected by oxidative stress. The use of drugs that regulate food intake and improve glucose metabolism is the conventional therapy to improve the quality of life of these patients. Currently, the use of antioxidants that regulate oxidative stress has given good results because they reduce oxidative stress and inflammatory processes, and they also have fewer side effects than synthetic drugs.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Nowadays, diabetes mellitus is known as a silent killer because individual is not aware that he has the disease till the development of its complications. Many researchers have studied the use of stem cells in treatment of both types of diabetes. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) hold a lot of potential for regenerative therapy. MSCs migrate and home at the damaged site, where they can aid in the repair of damaged tissues and restoring their function. Oxidative stress and inflammation represent a huge obstacle during MSCs transplantation. Therefore, the present study aimed to evaluate the role of grape seed extract (GSE) administration during MSCs transplantation in streptozotocin (STZ)-induced type I diabetes. Furthermore, testing some of GSE components [procyanidins(P)-B1 and P-C1] in conjunction with MSCs, in vivo, was performed to determine if one of them was more effective in relieving the measured attributes of diabetes more than the whole GSE. METHODS Firstly, GSE was prepared from the seeds of Muscat of Alexandria grapes and characterized to identify its phytochemical components. Experimental design was composed of control group I, untreated diabetic group II, GSE (300 mg/kg)-treated diabetic group III, MSCs (2 × 106 cells/rat)-treated diabetic group IV and GSE (300 mg/kg)/MSCs (2 × 106 cells/rat)-treated diabetic group V. Type I diabetes was induced in rats by intravenous injection with 65 mg/kg of STZ. Treatment started when fasting blood glucose (FBG) level was more than 200 mg/dl; GSE oral administration started in the same day after MSCs intravenous injection and continued daily for 30 consecutive days. RESULTS The results showed that GSE/MSCs therapy in type I-induced diabetic rats has dramatically managed homeostasis of glucose and insulin secretion; together with, improvement in levels of inflammatory markers and oxidative stress. CONCLUSION Co-treatment with GSE and MSCs in vivo regenerates beta cells in type I-induced diabetic rats.

Abstract
Sleep disorder dramatically affects people's physical and mental health. Here, we investigated the effect of preoperative sleep disorders on anesthesia recovery and postoperative pain in patients undergoing laparoscopic gynecological surgery under general anesthesia. 120 patients who underwent elective laparoscopic gynecological surgery under general anesthesia in Taizhou Central Hospital from November 2021 to March 2022 were included. According to the score of the Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI), the participating patients were divided into four groups: control group (control group), mild sleep disorder group A (group A), moderate sleep disorder group B (group B), and severe sleep disorder group C (group C), with 30 patients in each group. The changes of mean arterial pressure (MAP) and heart rate (HR) at different time points, operation time, anesthesia time, extubation time, the time when Aldrete score reached 10 points, visual analog score (VAS) serum interleukin-6 (IL-6), interleukin-10 (IL-10), and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) were compared among different groups. Our study demonstrated that there were no significant differences in MAP and HR among the four groups at the same time points (all P > 0.05). Significant differences in the time of extubation and Aldrete score reaching 10 points had been found among the four groups (all P < 0.001), indicating more sleep disorder induced longer extubation and recovery time. There were significant differences in VAS scores among the four groups at both different and the same time points (all P < 0.001), suggesting more sleep disorders induced more pain in the sufferers. Serum IL-6 levels were significantly higher in the three sleep disorder groups than the control group at 6 h and 24 h after the operation (all P < 0.05), while group C has the highest IL-6 levels as compared to the other group (P = 0.09 and P < 0.001, respectively). At 6 h after operation, serum levels of TNF-α in group C were significantly higher than in the control group (P = 0.044), but no significant differences were found in the other two groups (all P > 0.05). Positive correlation with preoperative PSQI score has been found with the times of extubation, the time of Aldrete score reaching 10 points, the VAS at 1 h, 6 h, and 24 h after operation, the level of serum IL-6 at 1 day before operation and 6 h and 24 h after operation, and the TNF-α at 6 h and 24 h after operation (all P < 0.001). The present study showed that the degree of preoperative sleep disorders could affect the quality of postoperative awakening and pain of patients undergoing laparoscopic gynecological surgery under general anesthesia, which might be associated with the aggravation of inflammatory reactions in the body.

Abstract
Giardia duodenalis (G. duodenalis) is an infectious protozoan that has a global distribution especially in the hot climate. Around 200 million people are infected worldwide annually by Giardia, but infection is not always accompanied by symptoms, especially in endemic countries. Using traditional microscopy techniques in diagnosis, both in stool and water samples were less sensitive when compared to immunological methods; and the need for new diagnostic methods was necessary. Also, protection from infection is required in endemic areas. Therefore, the study aimed to produce anti- G. duodenalis IgG polyclonal antibodies (pAbs) by immunizing rabbit by G. duodenalis cyst recombinant protein. The produced antibodies were evaluated in the detection of G. duodenalis antigens in patients' stool and water samples from endemic areas across River Nile; where pAbs were used as a coating and a peroxidase conjugate antibody in sandwich ELISA. Moreover, pAbs were tested for the protection of mice from giardiasis. Sandwich ELISA using pAb has succeeded in the detection of G. duodenalis coproantigens in stool samples by a sensitivity of 97% and a specificity of 92.72%. Moreover, G. duodenalis cyst was detected in only seven water samples by ordinary microscopy; while sandwich ELISA revealed nineteen positive results. IgG pAb (1/200 µg/ml) protected mice from giardiasis; which was evident from the reduction in cysts and trophozoites numbers. We recommended the use of sandwich ELISA to monitor water quality, investigate environmental contamination and diagnosis in patients' stools. The pAbs can be prepared in large amount and used in field diagnosis and protection. This will help in the early diagnosis of G. duodenalis in water, which in turn can control outbreaks in rural areas.

Abstract
Previous studies have demonstrated the beneficial effects of melatonin in diabetic rats. However, limited studies have been conducted on the potential effects of melatonin on the descriptive histopathological and morphometric findings in different compartments of the adrenal glands in diabetic animal models. In this study, using a streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic rat model, we sought to examine histological alterations in the pancreas and adrenal glands and observe the effect of the administration of melatonin on the histopathology and morphology of the pancreas and the adrenal gland cortex and medulla that are altered by STZ-induced hyperglycemia. Rats were randomly assigned to four different groups: Group I, normal control; Group II, melatonin group (MT) (10 mg/kg/day); Group III, (diabetic STZ group), and Group IV, diabetic (STZ) + melatonin group (MT). Throughout the experiment, the animals' fasting blood sugar levels were measured. Blood was obtained to determine the animals' cumulative blood sugar levels after sacrification. For histological and morphometrical evaluations, the pancreatic and adrenal gland tissues were dissected and processed. Our results showed that diabetic rats receiving melatonin significantly (P < 0.05) improved their fasting blood sugar and cumulative blood sugar levels compared to the diabetic group not receiving melatonin. Furthermore, histopathological examinations of the pancreatic and adrenal tissues of the diabetic rats indicated the occurrence of severe histopathological and morphometric changes. Morphometric analysis of the adrenals indicated a significant increase (P < 0.05) in the thickness of the cortex zones [zona glomerulosa (ZG), zona fasciculata (ZF), and zona reticularis (ZR)] for the diabetic STZ group compared with other groups, and a significant decrease (P < 0.05) in the diameter of the in adrenal gland medullas in the diabetic STZ rats compared to the other groups. Furthermore, treatment with melatonin restored these changes in both the pancreatic and adrenal gland tissues and produced a significant (P < 0.05) improvement in the cortex and medulla thickness compared to the untreated diabetic rats. Overall, melatonin significantly reduced the hyperglycemic levels of glucose in diabetic rats and reversed the majority of histopathological alterations in the tissues of the pancreas and adrenals, demonstrating its anti-diabetic activity.

Abstract
Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a complex multifactorial disease characterized by poor glucose tolerance and insulin resistance. Rice-husk silica liquid (RHSL) derived from rice husk has the ability to improve the dysfunction of pancreatic β-cells. This study aimed to confirm the potential protective effects of RHSL in streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetic mice. Diabetes was induced in male C57BL/6J mice by intraperitoneal administration of STZ (200 mg/kg BW). RHSL, food-grade silica liquid (FDSL), and rosiglitazone (RSG) were administered to diabetic mice for 12 weeks after successful induction of diabetes. During the experiment, fasting blood glucose, serum insulin, and organ weights were measured. The histopathology of liver tissue was evaluated by H&E staining. Western blotting was performed to assess protein expression levels. The results showed that RHSL significantly reversed the serum insulin levels and improved oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT) results (p < 0.05). In addition, liver sections of STZ-induced diabetic mice after RHSL treatment showed neatly arranged and intact hepatocytes. Furthermore, RHSL was more effective than FDSL in increasing the expression of SIRT1 and decreasing the expression of the PPAR-γ and p-NF-κB proteins. Taken together, this study demonstrated that RHSL ameliorated STZ-induced insulin resistance and liver tissue damage in C57BL/6J mice.
