Abstract
In attempt to the obtain detailed geometric information of proton transfer compound (subsequently denote as SQBP) formed between squaric acid (SQ)and 4,4′-bipyridine(BP), and to investigate the mechanisms of pressure-induced double proton transfer and related structural phase transition, we carried out in-situ high pressure Raman spectroscopy of SQBP up to 20 GPa. A solid-solid phase transition together with double proton transfer phenomenon was confirmed by Raman spectroscopy at about 1.5 GPa, and the activation of C = O stretching mode in Raman spectra indicates a square-ring structure of SQ with four symmetric C = O bond formation. These results are further supported by first-principals calculations and in-situ high pressure infrared absorption spectroscopy. Additionally, Raman intensity analysis suggests that a higher-order phase transition with planar BP molecular structure occurred in the pressure range of 3~6 GPa. As a result, the π electron delocalization effect in BP dominated the intensity enhancement of C = O stretching mode in SQ. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first time observation of the intensity enhancement of proton donor’s normal modes induced by proton acceptor’s π electron delocalization.

Abstract
A series of 5-(4-substituted arylazo)-6-hydroxy-4-methyl-3-cyano-2-pyridone dyes was synthesized and the structure of the dyes was confirmed by UV-Vis, FT-IR, (1)H NMR and (13)C NMR spectroscopic techniques. The azo-hydrazone tautomeric equilibrium was found to depend on the substituents as well as on the acidity and basicity of the media. Ionization constant, pKa, of the dyes was determined by UV-Vis spectroscopy and correlated with the Hammett substituent constants, σp and σI. The interpretation of the effect of different substituent in phenyl ring of arylazo pyridone dyes on their spectroscopic and structural properties was based on quantum chemical calculations performed by the density functional theory (DFT/M06-2X) method. The DFT calculations confirmed the existence of two forms in water solution: hydrazone form in acidic and neutral media and anionic form in basic media. The different contribution of azo and hydrazone canonical forms of anionic form is observed for dyes with electron-donating and dyes with electron-withdrawing groups. The dependence of absorption spectra and determined pKa values to the substituent type seems to be mostly due to azo/hydrazone canonical structure ratio in their anionic form.

Abstract
The complexation reaction of cephalosporins namely cefotaxime (CTX), cefuroxime (CRX), and cefazolin (CEFAZ) with palladium (II) ions have been studied in water and DMF in 25 °C by the spectrophotometric methods. The method is based on the formation of yellow to yellowish brown complex between palladium (II) chloride and the investigated cephalosporins in the presence of sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) as surfactant. The complexation process was optimized in terms of pH, temperature and contact time. The stoichiometry of all the complexes was found to be 2:1 (metal ion/ligand) for CTX, CRX, and 1:2 for CEFAZ. The stoichiometry of palladium (II)-cephalosporins was estimated by mole ratio and continuous variation methods and emphasized by the KINFIT program. These drugs could be determined by measuring the absorbance of each complex at its specific λmax. The results obtained are in good agreement with those obtained using the official methods. The proposed method was successfully applied for the determination of these compounds in their dosage forms.

Abstract
In the crystal structure of the title proton-transfer compound, CH6N3O+·C7H4NO4−, O—H⋯O and N—H⋯O hydrogen bonds are formed respectively between the cations and the anions, each component affording a supramolecular chain along the c axis. The cation and anion chains are further linked by N—H⋯O and N—H⋯N hydrogen bonds. A π–π interaction is also observed between the pyridine rings; the interplanar separation and the centroid–centroid distance are 3.3425 (6) and 4.6256 (11) Å, respectively.

Abstract
The complexation reaction between some oximes including methyl-2-pyridylketone oxime (MPKO), phenyl-2-pyridylketone oxime (PPKO) and diacetyl monooxime (DMO) with some transition and heavy metal ions Co2+, Ni2+, Zn2+, Pb2+, Fe2+, Fe3+, Cr3+ and La3+ has been studied potentiometrically in aqueous solution at 25+/-0.1 degrees C and ionic strength (mu) of 0.1M supported by KCl. The overall stability constants logbeta's of respective species were obtained by computer refinement of pH-volume data using BEST program. The best model among the several proposed models was selected according to the lowest sigma(fit) value. The main species in binary systems are ML, ML2, MLH, MLH2, ML2H, ML2H2, MOHL, M(OH)2L, M(OH)L2 and M(OH)2L2 (L = MPKO or PPKO or DMO).

Abstract
A multiwavelength spectrophotometric titration method was applied to study the acidity constants of some azo dyes in water. The UV-vis absorption spectra of azo dye solutions were recorded in the course of their pH-metric titration with a standard base solution. The protolytic equilibrium constants, spectral profiles, concentration diagrams and also the number of components have been calculated. The quantitative effects of the substituents on the acidity of the studied azo dyes were investigated by the linear free energy relationship (LFER) using Hammet sigma constant (sigma) and field and resonance effects of Kamlet and Taft (f and Re, respectively).
