Abstract
The introduction of a secondary interaction is an efficient strategy to modulate transition-metal-catalyzed ethylene (co)polymerization. In this contribution, O-donor groups were suspended on amine-imine ligands to synthesize a series of nickel complexes. By adjusting the interaction between the nickel metal center and the O-donor group on the ligands, these nickel complexes exhibited high activities for ethylene polymerization (up to 3.48 × 106 gPE·molNi-1·h-1) with high molecular weight up to 5.59 × 105 g·mol-1 and produced good polyethylene elastomers (strain recovery (SR) = 69-81%). In addition, these nickel complexes can catalyze the copolymerization of ethylene with vinyl acetic acid, 6-chloro-1-hexene, 10-undecylenic, 10-undecenoic acid, and 10-undecylenic alcohol to prepare the functionalized polyolefins.

Abstract
The interest in the late transition metal catalyst based design of new architectures of polyethylene (PE) has continuously been increasing over the last few years. The structure of these catalysts is predominantly important in controlling the morphological and architectural properties of the resulting polyethylene. Particularly, iminopyridine is a versatile bidentate support for Ni and Pd catalysts in ethylene (oligo)polymerization providing a wide variety of products ranging from volatile oligomers to ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene. Extensive structural modifications have been induced in the iminopyridine ligand through steric and electronic substitution, tuning the catalyst behavior in terms of activity and properties of the resulting polymer. Carbocyclic-fused iminopyridine and N-oxide iminopyridine are the new state of the art iminopyridine ligand designs. In this review, we aim to summarize all the developments in mononuclear iminopyridine-nickel and -palladium catalysts for ethylene (oligo)polymerization since the first report published in 1999 to present, focusing on the correlation among the pre-catalyst, co-catalyst type, thermal stability and polymer/oligomer structure. For comparison, the structural variations in the binuclear iminopyridine-nickel catalysts are also described. The detailed comparison of the structural variations in these catalysts with respect to their polymerization performance will give deep understanding in the development of new efficient catalyst designs.

Abstract
Six mononuclear tetravalent actinide complexes (1-6) have been synthesized using a new Schiff base ligand 2-methoxy-6-(((2-methyl-1-(pyridin-2-yl)propyl)imino)methyl)phenol (HLpr). The HLpr is treated with tetravalent actinide elements in varied stoichiometries to afford mononuclear 1:1 complexes [MCl3-Lpr·nTHF] (1-3) and 2:1 complexes [MCl2-L2pr] (4-6) (M = Th4+ (1 and 4), U4+ (2 and 5), and Np4+ (3 and 6)). All complexes are characterized using different analytical techniques such as IR, NMR, and absorption spectroscopy as well as crystallography. UV-vis spectroscopy revealed more red-shifted absorption spectra for 2:1 complexes as compared to 1:1 complexes. 1H NMR of Th(IV) complexes exhibit diamagnetic spectra, whereas U(IV) and Np(IV) complexes revealed paramagnetically shifted 1H NMR. Interestingly, NMR signals are paramagnetically shifted between -70 and 40 ppm in 2 and 3 but are confined within -35 to 25 ppm in 2:1 complexes 5 and 6. Single-crystal structures for 1:1 complexes revealed an eight-coordinated Th(IV) complex (1) and seven-coordinated U(IV) (2) and Np(IV) (3) complexes. However, all 2:1 complexes 4-6 were isolated as eight-coordinated isostructural molecules. The geometry around the Th4+ center in 1 is found to be trigonal dodecahedral and capped trigonal prismatic around U(IV) and Np(IV) centers in 2 and 3, respectively. However, An4+ centers in 2:1 complexes are present in dodecahedral geometry. Importantly, 2:1 complexes exhibit increased bond distances in comparison to their 1:1 counterparts as well as interesting bond modulation with respect to ionic radii of An(IV) centers. Cyclic voltammetry displays an increased oxidation potential of the ligand by 300-500 mV, after coordination with An4+. CV studies indicate Th(IV)/Th(II) reduction beyond -2.3 V, whereas attempts were made to identify redox potentials for U(IV) and Np(IV) centers. Spectroscopic binding studies reveal that complex stability in 1:1 stoichiometry follows the order Th4+ ≈ U4+ > Np4+.

Abstract
A facile and effective synthesis of 2-chloromethylpyridines was developed by a one-pot reaction of 2-alkylpyridin-N-oxides and triphosgene at room temperature. As starting materials, N-oxides of 2-alkylpyridine derivatives, including 2-alkylpyridines, 2-methyl quinolines, and phenanthroline, can react rapidly with triphosgene in the presence of triethylamine, affording 2-chloromethylpyridines in good to excellent yields (52-95%). Using the 2-methylquinoline substrate for the mechanistic study, it has been well demonstrated that the chlorination reaction undergoes a [3,3]-sigmatropic rearrangement, which can be observed as a reversible process by monitoring the intermediates. Moreover, the chlorination reaction can be used to construct a rapid and sensitive fluorescent probe for the detection of phosgene.

Abstract
A series of chiral PCN pincer Pd(II) complexes VI-XIII with aryl-based aminophosphine-imidazoline or phosphinite-imidazoline ligands were synthesized and characterized. They were examined as enantioselective catalysts for the hydrophosphination of enones. Among them, complex IX, which features a Ph2PO donor as well as an imidazoline donor with (4S)-phenyl and N-Tol-p groups, was found to be the optimal catalyst. Thus, in the presence of 2-5 mol % of complex IX a wide variety of enones reacted smoothly with diarylphosphines to give the corresponding chiral phosphine derivatives in high yields with enantioselectivities of up to 98% ee. In particular, heteroaryl species such as 2-thienyl-, 2-furyl-, and 2-pyridinyl-containing enones that have a strong coordination ability to the Pd center were also appropriate substrates for the current catalytic system. For example, hydrophosphination of 2-alkenoylpyridines with diphenylphosphine followed by oxidation with H2O2 afforded the corresponding pyridine-functionalized chiral phosphine oxides in good yields with good to excellent enantioselectivities (10 examples, up to 95% ee). Furthermore, it had been demonstrated that the obtained pyridine-containing phosphine oxide acted as a tridentate ligand in the reaction with PdCl2 to form an intriguing NCsp(3)O pincer Pd(II) complex via Csp(3)-H bond activation, which to our knowledge is the first example of a chiral DCsp(3)D' Pd pincer (D ≠ D'; D and D' denote donor atoms such as P, N, etc.).

Abstract
In this work, the copolymerization of ethylene and methyl acrylate (MA) as catalyzed by a new Ni-based PymNox organometallic compound was studied computationally. We recently tested the behavior of this type of catalyst in ethylene homopolymerization. Experimental results show that the unsubstituted catalyst Ni2 (aldimino PymNox catalyst) is unable to incorporate the MA monomer, whereas methyl-substituted Ni1 (acetaldimino PymNox catalyst) is able to achieve copolymerization. The reactivities of both catalysts were examined using density functional theory (DFT) models. Based on energy profiles calculated at the BP86 level, a Curtin-Hammett mechanism was proposed to explain the different reactivities of the catalysts in ethylene/MA copolymerization. Our results indicate that the methyl substituent Ni1 introduces additional steric hindrance that results in a catalyst conformation that is better suited to polar monomer incorporation. This model provides insights into the design of new catalysts to produce polar functionalized copolymers based on ethylene.

Abstract
The complexes [Cu2(o-NO2-C6H4COO)4(PNO)2] (1), [Cu2(C6H5COO)4(2,2'-BPNO)] n (2), [Cu2(C6H5COO)4(4,4'-BPNO)] n (3), [Cu(p-OH-C6H4COO)2(4,4'-BPNO)2·H2O] n (4), (where PNO = pyridine N-oxide, 2,2'-BPNO = 2,2'-bipyridyl-N,N'-dioxide, 4,4'-BPNO = 4,4'-bipyridyl-N,N'-dioxide) are prepared and characterized and their magnetic properties are studied as a function of temperature. Complex 1 is a discrete dinuclear complex while complexes 2-4 are polymeric of which 2 and 3 have paddle wheel repeating units. Magnetic susceptibility measurements from polycrystalline samples of 1-4 revealed strong antiferromagnetic interactions within the {Cu2}4+ paddle wheel units and no discernible interactions between the units. The complex 5, [Cu(NicoNO)2·2H2O] n ·4nH2O, in which the bridging ligand to the adjacent copper(II) ions is nicotinate N-oxide (NicoNO) the transmitted interaction is very weakly antiferromagnetic.
