Abstract
Objectives Foot ulcers often occur in people with diabetes because of pressure-induced tissue ischemia. Vibration has been reported to be helpful in alleviating mechanical damage and promoting wound healing. The objective of this study is to explore whether vibration can relieve reactive hyperemia in foot tissue under occlusive compression. Methods Thirteen healthy adults participated in the study. Each foot was placed under occlusive compression without or with vibration intervention, which was randomly assigned every other day. The dorsal foot skin blood flow (SBF) was measured pre- and postintervention for each subject in each test. Temporal variations and spectral features of SBF were recorded for comparison. Results The results showed that subjects displayed an obvious reactive hyperemia in the foot tissue after pressure occlusion, whereas they displayed a more regular SBF when vibration was applied along with occlusive compression. Moreover, the amplitude of metabolic, neurogenic, and myogenic pathways for SBF was significantly reduced during the hyperemia process when vibration was applied. Conclusions This study demonstrated that vibration can effectively reduce the level of hyperemia in foot tissue under occlusive compression and also induce less protective physiological regulatory activities. This is helpful for protecting foot tissue from pressure-induced ischemic injury and foot ulcers.

Abstract
The clinical relevance of flow cytometry (FC)-based bone marrow involvement (BMI) in B cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma (B-NHL) is not well established. We conducted a systematic review of MEDLINE regarding the use of FC to establish BMI in B-NHL to determine the prevalence of BMI by FC, to understand the interrelation between FC and bone marrow biopsy (BMB), and to explore the prognostic impact of BMI by FC. Relevant exclusion criteria included publication before 2010. Eleven publications (of 18 screened) were included, with 2803 patients involved. Relevant methodological details were often unreported. The prevalence of BMI by FC varied based on histological subtypes included. The median kappa agreement between BMB and FC was 0.68 and the type of discordance (FC+/BMB- vs. FC-/BMB+) was highly variable across studies. Only 4 studies (all in diffuse large B cell lymphoma) assessed the prognostic impact of BMI by FC. Two found a worse prognosis for patients with FC+/BMB- than those without BMI. To conclude, studies assessing BMI by FC are retrospective, of low methodological quality and with heterogeneous findings.

Abstract
PURPOSE Bone marrow biopsy is a standard method for the evaluation of bone marrow infiltration by lymphoma; however, it is an invasive and painful procedure. Fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography-computed tomography (FDG PET-CT) is a noninvasive imaging technique with the potential to detect bone marrow involvement by lymphoma. MATERIALS AND METHODS We retrospectively reviewed medical records of lymphoma patients. All patients were examined by FDG PET-CT and iliac crest bone marrow biopsy for initial staging work-up. RESULTS The study population comprised 94 patients (median age, 60 years; 56 males) with Hodgkin's lymphoma (n=8) or non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (n=86). Maximum standardized uptake values on the iliac crest of patients with lymphoma infiltrated bone marrow were significantly higher than those of patients with intact bone marrow (2.2±1.2 g/mL vs. 1.3±0.4 g/mL; p=0.001). The calculated values for FDG PET-CT during evaluation of bone marrow involvement were as follows: sensitivity 50%, specificity 96%, positive predictive value 80%, negative predictive value 85%, and positive likelihood ratio (LR+) 11.7. The value of LR+ was 16.0 in patients with aggressive subtypes of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL). CONCLUSION FDG PET-CT could not replace bone marrow biopsy due to the low sensitivity of FDG PET-CT for detection of bone marrow infiltration in lymphoma patients. Conversely, FDG PET-CT had high specificity and LR+; therefore, it could be a useful tool for image-guided biopsy for lymphoma staging, especially for aggressive subtypes of NHL. In addition, unilateral bone marrow biopsy could be substituted for bilateral bone marrow biopsy in lymphoma patients with increased FDG uptake on any iliac crest.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The aim of the study was to evaluate the potential role of fludeoxyglucose (FDG)-positron emission tomography (PET)/CT in the detection of bone/bone marrow disease in patients with Hodgkin's lymphoma (HL). METHODS We retrospectively reviewed ((18)F)-FDG-PET/CT scans of 122 newly diagnosed, biopsy-proven cases of HL performed between November 2009 and June 2010. All the patients were staged before treatment by both PET/CT and bone marrow biopsy (BMB). Patients were subdivided into three groups based on the findings of FDG-PET/CT. Group A consisted of patients showing diffuse FDG uptake, Group B consisted of patients showing unifocal FDG uptake and Group C patients showed multifocal FDG-avid foci on PET/CT scans. Bone marrow results were also reviewed and considered positive if lymphomatous involvement was detected on bone marrow trephine biopsy. BMB results were correlated with FDG-PET/CT findings. RESULTS There were 122 patients in total-81 (66.4%) were male and 41 (33.6%) were female. The age range was from 6 years to 78 years (mean 35.70 years). PET/CT was reported as negative for bone/bone marrow involvement in 85 (69.7%) patients, while the remaining 37 showed abnormal FDG uptake. The sensitivity of FDG-PET/CT was calculated to be 100%, the specificity was 76.57%, the negative predictive value was 76.57%, the positive predictive value was 29.72% and the diagnostic accuracy was 78.62%. CONCLUSION (18)F-FDG-PET/CT and BMB are complementary in the evaluation of bone marrow disease.

Abstract
Background Staging of B-cell non Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) routinely involves bone marrow (BM) examination by trephine biopsy (BM-TB). The evidence of disease in the BM-TB results in a clinical stage IV classification affecting therapeutic strategies for NHL patients. BM immunophenotyping by flow cytometry (FC) is also used, although its clinical value is still under debate. Methods Using FC we analyzed 1,000 paired BM aspirates and peripheral blood (PB) samples from 591 NHL patients to investigate the concordance between BM and PB. B-lymphocytes were defined monoclonal when a ratio of 0.3 < κ/l > 3 was observed. Aberrant immunophenotypes present in the B-cell subpopulation were also investigated. BM-TB was also performed in 84.1% of samples (841/1000), and concordance between BM-TB and BM-FC was evaluated. Concordance was defined as the presence of a positive (in terms of disease detection) or negative result in both BM-FC and PB-FC or BM-TB and BM-FC. Results Using FC, the overall concordance between BM and PB was 95%. Among the discordant cases (ie presence of neoplastic B-lymphocyte in the BM but under the sensibility of the technique in the PB) the most frequent diagnosis was Waldenstrom's macroglobulinemia (WM, accounting for 20.8% of all discordant cases). The expression of CXCR4, a receptor involved in B-cell trafficking and homing, was found to be down regulated in WM compared to other NHL types, thus suggesting a possible role of CXCR4 in WM cell homing in the BM. WM excluded, FC investigation of BM and PB in NHL patients gives overlapping information. BM involvement was observed by FC in 38% of samples, and concordance between BM-FC and BM-TB was 85%. Conclusions The finding that FC data from BM and PB samples overlap in NHL might have major implications for the design of future clinical studies and for patients' follow-up.
