Abstract
Despite the availability of the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine, non-Latinx (NL) Southeast Asian Americans have the highest incidence of HPV-associated cervical cancer in the US. Little is known about NL-Southeast Asian Americans' HPV vaccination coverage due to being categorized under the "Asian American" monolith. Therefore, this study uses restricted data from the 2011-2018 National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) to disaggregate NL-Southeast Asian Americans and compare this population's age-specific probabilities of initiating HPV vaccinations to two Asian American subgroups (NL-East Asian and NL-South Asian Americans) and NL-White, NL-Black, and Latinx Americans. Multinomial logistic regression models examine the differences in the timing of initiating the HPV vaccine series, late (ages 13-26) or never, relative to on-time vaccination (by age 12). NL-Southeast Asian Americans are significantly more likely to never vaccinate and to vaccinate late than NL-White, NL-Black, and Latinx Americans, relative to on-time vaccination. NL-Southeast Asian American boys/men are significantly more likely to never initiate the HPV vaccine than Latinx boys/men, relative to on-time vaccination. NL-Southeast Asian American girls/women are significantly more likely to never vaccinate and vaccinate late than NL-White, NL-Black, and Latinx girls/women, relative to on-time vaccination. There are significant gender differences in uptake among all racial and ethnic groups, except among NL-Southeast and NL-East Asian Americans. Disaggregated data on NL-Southeast Asian Americans helps scholars and public health officials uncover health disparities and improve health interventions. Targeted HPV vaccine promotion and services for this population are needed to mitigate current and future health disparities and promote health equity.

Abstract
BACKGROUND There are few studies to date of interventions to increase viral hepatitis screening among Asian Americans, who have high rates of chronic hepatitis B (HBV) infection. OBJECTIVE To develop, implement, and test the efficacy of a mobile application (Hepatitis App) delivered in four languages to increase HBV screening among Asian Americans. DESIGN Cluster-randomized clinical trial. PARTICIPANTS Four hundred fifty-two Asian American patients ≥ 18 years of age, who had no prior HBV testing, and received primary care within two healthcare systems in San Francisco, CA. INTERVENTIONS The intervention group received the Hepatitis App, delivering interactive video education on viral hepatitis in English, Cantonese, Mandarin, or Vietnamese and a provider printout (Provider Alert) and Provider Panel Notification. The comparison group received a mobile application delivering nutrition and physical activity education and Provider Panel Notification. MAIN MEASURES Primary outcomes were patient-provider discussion about HBV and documentation of a HBV screening test within 3 months post-intervention. Secondary outcome was documentation of an order for a HBV screening test. KEY RESULTS Participants had a mean age of 57 years and were 64% female, 80% foreign-born, and 44% with limited English fluency. At post-visit, over 80% of intervention participants reported they liked using the Hepatitis App. At 3-month follow-up, the intervention group was more likely than the comparison group (all P < 0.001) to have discussed HBV with their provider (70% vs.16%), have a HBV test ordered (44% vs.10%), and receive a HBV test (38% vs.8%). In multivariable analyses, the intervention odds ratio for HBV test ordering was 7.6 (95% CI: 3.9, 14.8) and test receipt was 7.5 (95% CI: 3.6, 15.5). CONCLUSIONS A multi-lingual educational intervention using a mobile application in primary care clinics was well received by Asian American patients, enhanced patient-provider communication about HBV, and increased HBV screening. Abstract
Background Prevalence of hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection among Vietnamese Americans is reportedly high. Understanding the profile of those at greater risk of HCV in this ethnic population is a vital step to addressing this high prevalence. We hypothesize that certain sociodemographic characteristics increase the likelihood of having HCV in Vietnamese Americans. Methods Cross-sectional data from 2,497 Vietnamese Americans in Southern California who participated in a series of community hepatitis screening events organized by the Vietnamese American Cancer Foundation (VACF) were analyzed. Serological tests via immunoassays were used to determine whether the participant had hepatitis C antibodies (anti-HCV) to indicate a HCV infection. Sociodemographic characteristics as well as participants’ reasons for screening were collected from questionnaires, and logistic regression models with odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were used to quantify their associations with HCV infection. Results Approximately 5.8% of the study population was infected with HCV. Older adults and male participants had higher odds of being infected with HCV (e.g. OR = 2.90, 95% CI 1.25–6.76 for ages 70+ versus ages <40; OR = 2.57, 95% CI 1.79–3.69 for male versus female participants) as were those with a family history of HCV infection (OR = 2.74, 95% CI 1.57–4.78). In addition, perceived self-risk as a motivation for screening was significantly associated with HCV infection (OR = 1.88, 95% CI 1.26–2.78). Conclusions This study identifies specific subgroups in the Vietnamese American community who would largely benefit from targeted interventions given their higher likelihood of having HCV. These interventions should emphasize improving HCV knowledge and promoting HCV self-risk assessment since awareness of one’s own risk may motivate those likely to be infected to get screened.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Sci-B-Vac®, a 3-antigen hepatitis B vaccine (3A-HBV), contains all three recombinant hepatitis B virus (HBV) envelope proteins (S, pre-S1, and pre-S2). In 2005, 3A-HBV manufacturing transferred facilities (A to B), where it continues to be manufactured. METHODS This phase 3, single-blind, randomized study, conducted at one site in Vietnam, compared efficacy and safety among two 3A-HBV lots, lot A and lot B, and a single-antigen hepatitis B vaccine (1A-HBV), Engerix-B®. Primary objective was to demonstrate equivalence at day 210 of two 3A-HBV lots in seroprotection rate (SPR; defined as percentage of participants achieving hepatitis B surface antigen antibody [anti-HBs] titers ≥ 10 mIU/mL). Secondary objectives were assessing immunogenicity at days 180, 210, and 360, and safety of 3A-HBV. RESULTS 3A-HBV SPR equivalence was demonstrated at day 210 (lot A: 97.3% [95% CI: 92.4%, 99.4%] vs. lot B: 100.0% [97.0%, 100.0%]). Compared to 1A-HBV, lot B SPR was higher at day 180 (98.3% vs. 81.2%; difference: 17.1% [9.7%, 24.6%]) and non-inferior at day 210 (100% vs. 98.3%; difference: 1.7% [-0.6%, 4.1%]). 3A-HBV lot B showed the same SPR after 2 doses (98.3%) as 1A-HBV after 3 doses (98.3%). Adverse events (AEs) were comparable with both 3A-HBV lots (lot A: 68.7% vs. lot B: 54.2%), but higher than 1A-HBV (35.3%). Vaccination-related AEs included transient injection site pain (38.9%), myalgia (9.3%), and fatigue (7.5%). Eight serious AEs were reported (lot A: 3/134 [2.2%]; lot B: 1/134 [0.8%]; 1A-HBV: 4/133 [2.3%]). One serious AE, syncope, was noted as probably related to study vaccine, lot B. CONCLUSIONS The two 3A-HBV lots had equivalent immunogenicity, but lot B elicited faster onset of seroprotection and higher anti-HBs titers than both lot A and 1A-HBV in an Asian population. This supports 3A-HBV lot B as an effective choice for HBV vaccination, with a favorable safety profile. ClinicalTrials.gov: NCT04531098.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Compared to other racial/ethnic groups, U.S. Vietnamese have higher Hepatitis B infection prevalence, which is a major liver cancer risk factor. Increased testing could reduce this disparity. It is critical to understand subgroups of U.S. Vietnamese least likely to have been tested for Hepatitis B and design appropriate interventions. We examined healthcare- and acculturation-related factors influencing Hepatitis B testing among U.S. Vietnamese. METHODS Survey data of 100 U.S. Vietnamese attending health fairs/programs hosted by community-based organizations (2017-2018) were analyzed. Healthcare-related predictors included insurance and past 2-year checkup. Acculturation-related predictors included Vancouver Acculturation Index, percentage of lifetime in the U.S., and Vietnamese and English fluency. We conducted a multiple logistic regression controlling for age, sex, education, and household income. RESULTS The sample was an average 37.5 years old and 61.6% female. Insurance coverage was reported by 83.0%. Average percentage of lifetime in the U.S. was 56.8%. Seventy percent reported having received Hepatitis B testing. Hepatitis B testing was associated with health insurance (aOR = 2.61, 95% CI = [1.05-6.47], p = .04) but not any acculturation-related predictors CONCLUSION: Improving insurance coverage and options can be a strategy to increase Hepatitis B testing among U.S. Vietnamese. More education regarding Hepatitis B (e.g., via community-based, culturally-appropriate, lay health worker-led programs) is needed to ensure that individuals are aware of their testing status and pursue appropriate healthcare decisions.

Abstract
Background Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection is one of the greatest public health burdens, particularly for people living with several barriers to access to health care services, such as the hill tribe adult population in Thailand. People aged 25 years and over who are out of the target population for HBV immunization under the national Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI) are at risk of HBV infection. The study aimed to estimate the prevalence and determine the factors associated with HBV infection among hill tribe adults aged 25 years and over living in Chiang Rai Province, Thailand. Methods A cross-sectional study design was used to collect information on hill tribe adults aged 25 years and over living in 36 selected hill tribe villages in Chiang Rai Province. All people living in the selected villages who met the criteria were invited to participate in the study. A validated questionnaire and a 5-mL blood specimen were used as research instruments. Hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg), antibody to hepatitis B surface (anti-HBs), and antibody to hepatitis B core (anti-HBc) were detected by using the Wondfo Test Kit@, which has high sensitivity and specificity. Logistic regression was used to detect the associations between variables at the significance level of α = 0.05. Results A total of 1491 individuals were recruited into the analysis; 60.8% were females, 81.3% were aged between 30 and 60 years, and 86.0% were married. The majority were illiterate (54.9%), were Buddhist (55.7%), worked in agricultural sectors (87.3%), and had an annual income of less than 50,000 baht per year (72.9%). The overall prevalence of hepatitis B infection was 26.6%; 7.6% were positive for HBsAg, 19.2% were positive for anti-HBs, and 18.9% were positive for anti-HBc. In the multivariate analysis, three variables were found to be associated with hepatitis B infection: those who were in the Yao and Lisu tribes had a 1.64-fold (95% CI = 1.08–2.49) and a 1.93-fold (95% CI = 1.10–3.31) greater chance, respectively, of HBV infection than did those in the Karen tribe; those who were Christian had a 1.41-fold (95% CI = 1.06–1.87) greater chance of HBV infection than did those who were Buddhist; and those who did not use alcohol had a 1.29-fold (95% CI = 1.01–1.65) greater chance of HBV infection than did those who used alcohol. Conclusions It is necessary to develop and implement effective public health interventions among hill tribe adult populations who are not part of the EPI-targeted population, particularly Christians, those in the Lisu and Yao tribes, and those who do not use alcohol, to reduce the HBV infection rate, save lives and reduce medical expenses.
