Abstract
Background Meaningful research creates evidence for Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) practice. Aim To establish Infection Prevention Society (IPS) members' research priorities to support future research projects. Methods A mixed methods convergent parallel design incorporating a cross-sectional survey of IPS members (2022-2023), and focus group findings from the IPS Consultative Committee, (October 2022). Quantitative data were analysed using descriptive statistics. Qualitative data were transcribed verbatim, entered into NVivo 12, and analysed using a thematic analysis approach. Findings/Results 132 IPS members responded to the survey, including 120 (90.9%) nurses. The three most prevalent priorities were: Quality Improvement and Patient Safety (n = 84, 16.1%); IPC Training and Education (n = 77, 14.8%); and IPC Evidence-based Guidelines (n = 76, 14.6%). Analysis of the focus group transcripts identified six emergent themes 'Patient Centred Care', 'Training and Education', 'IPC Role and Identity', 'IPC Leadership', 'IPC is Everyone's Responsibility', and 'Research Activity'. Triangulation of findings demonstrated concordance between quantitative and qualitative findings with Quality Improvement and Patient Safety (QIPS) and Training and Education identified as priority research areas. Discussion This study highlights the necessity of developing support systems and incorporating research priorities in QIPS, as well as Training and Education. The findings of this study align with the recommended core competencies and components for effective infection prevention and control programs, making them relevant to QIPS initiatives. The outcomes of the study will serve as a valuable resource to guide the IPS Research and Development Committee in delivering practical support to IPS members.

Abstract
Among the numerous changes associated with the transformation to cancer, cellular metabolism is one of the first discovered and most prominent[1, 2]. However, despite the knowledge that nearly every cancer is associated with the strong upregulation of various metabolic pathways, there has yet to be much clinical progress on the treatment of cancer by targeting a single metabolic enzyme directly[3-6]. We previously showed that inhibition of glycolysis through lactate dehydrogenase (LDHA) deletion in cancer cells of origin had no effect on the initiation or progression of cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma[7], suggesting that these cancers are metabolically flexible enough to produce the necessary metabolites required for sustained growth in the absence of glycolysis. Here we focused on glutaminolysis, another metabolic pathway frequently implicated as important for tumorigenesis in correlative studies. We genetically blocked glutaminolysis through glutaminase (GLS) deletion in cancer cells of origin, and found that this had little effect on tumorigenesis, similar to what we previously showed for blocking glycolysis. Tumors with genetic deletion of glutaminolysis instead upregulated lactate consumption and utilization for the TCA cycle, providing further evidence of metabolic flexibility. We also found that the metabolic flexibility observed upon inhibition of glycolysis or glutaminolysis is due to post-transcriptional changes in the levels of plasma membrane lactate and glutamine transporters. To define the limits of metabolic flexibility in cancer initiating hair follicle stem cells, we genetically blocked both glycolysis and glutaminolysis simultaneously and found that frank carcinoma was not compatible with abrogation of both of these carbon utilization pathways. These data point towards metabolic flexibility mediated by regulation of nutrient consumption, and suggest that treatment of cancer through metabolic manipulation will require multiple interventions on distinct pathways.

Abstract
Abstract
Minimally invasive approaches are increasingly being used for the correction of abdominal wall hernias. Although laparoscopy presents as a greater technical challenge compared to classical techniques, once the learning curve is overcome, the advantages are multiple: less postoperative pain, shorter hospital stay, faster return to daily/professional activities and lower rate of surgical site infection.
The authors present the case of a 55yo women with a history of type 2 diabetes mellitus and peripheral venous insufficiency. No history of previous surgeries. The patient was referred to an appointment in the Ambulatory Surgery Centre for evaluation of a primary midline hernia. Symptoms were worsening in the last 6 months. No previous episodes of complications. Preoperative evaluation included an abdominopelvic computed tomography, which revealed a hernia sac containing only fatty tissue (no intestinal loops present) and a 19 mm hernial neck with a supra-umbilical median location. No other abdominal wall defects were evident.
The patient was proposed for a laparoscopic approach - extended totally extraperitoneal (eTEP) in ambulatory setting. The surgery and post-operative period (9 months) to date went without intercurrences.
The present video aims to demonstrate the main steps of the surgical technique applied in a tertiary centre with years of experience in laparoscopic abdominal wall surgery.
With this paper the authors pretend to demonstrate that laparoscopy may become the gold-standard in abdominal wall hernia correction as soon as the know-how and respective learning curve are aquired. Until then, these cases should continue to be referred to specialized tertiary centres.

Abstract
Endophytic bacterial diversity of root, stem, and leaf tissues of Physalis ixocarpa was deciphered. Unique and shared species were found for each plant compartment analyzed. Extensive screening of various isolates exhibited antagonism against fungal pathogens. Diverse endophytes stimulated the growth of Physalis ixocarpa seedlings. Neobacillus drentensis CH23 stood out as an excellent plant growth-promoting bacterium.
The endophytic bacterial diversity of root, stem, and leaf tissues of Mexican husk tomato plants (Physalis ixocarpa) was compared and deciphered, and screened for their plant growth-promoting activity and antagonism against fungal phytopathogens. Total 315 isolates (108 roots, 102 stems, and 105 leaves) were obtained and characterized by 16S ribosomal gene sequencing. The most abundant genera were Bacillus, Microbacterium, Pseudomonas, and Stenotrophomonas. Unique species were found for each tissue analyzed, along with B. thuringiensis, B. toyonensis, Neobacillus drentensis, Paenibacillus castaneae, P. fluorescens, P. poae, and S. maltophilia present throughout the plant. Biodiversity indices did not show significant differences, but root tissues showed the highest abundance of bacterial endophytes. Several isolates showed excellent promotion activities in Physalis ixocarpa seedlings, increasing the length and weight of the root, total biomass, and chlorophyll content. Various isolates also exhibited antagonism against fungal pathogens. Among screened isolates, Neobacillus drentensis CH23 was found in all plant compartments, exhibiting growth-promoting activity and fungal antagonism. Strain CH23 and other endophytes showed the production of indoleacetic acid, siderophores, proteases, and solubilization of phosphates. These results demonstrate that the husk tomato plant endobiome has a high potential as a bioinoculating agent for agriculturally important crops.

Abstract
Introduction COVID-19 has had a devastating effect on care homes, increasing both morbidity and mortality of residents and staff. Between 2 March and 12 June 2020, COVID-19 was the main cause of death in male care home residents (33.5%) and second for female (26.6%).1 By 1 May 2020, the death rate from all causes in care homes exceeded that in hospital (6,409 versus 6,397).2 Thus, care homes had to rapidly adapt to facilitate safe care of patients and staff. Method An expert outreach team visited a number of care homes in Surrey and Sussex to explore COVID-19 issues in care homes. Key themes were identified that informed topics for the Virtual Care Home Forum, where a series of virtual teaching, training and peer support sessions were hosted either live or on-demand, accessible for all care home staff. Results 12 sessions were held with an average attendance of 25 people, predominantly care home managers and community healthcare professionals. Real time qualitative feedback was collected and an electronic survey was completed at the end of the series which showed 100% felt the sessions had improved their understanding of the topic, 100% felt the knowledge and skills obtained from the sessions would be useful in their job, 87.5% agreed the sessions would impact or change their practise and 100% felt more supported during the pandemic. Conclusion It has been an unprecedented year for the NHS, and the care home sector has suffered significantly. In order to provide the best level of care for patients and support for our community colleagues, we must work collaboratively, including provision of education and training. To ensure equal access for all, maintaining user-safety and compliance with government legislation, virtual webinars proved to be an excellent modality. We plan to continue providing training, teaching and support through this means in the future.

Abstract
En la Región Sur del Ecuador se encuentra la zona del bosque seco que abarca desde los 100 metros sobre el nivel del mar (m.s.n.m) hasta los 1200 m.s.n.m, lugar donde se ha adaptado la cabra criolla llamada “Chusca lojana”. El presente trabajo tuvo como objetivo la caracterización fenotípica de este recurso zoogenético, permitiendo disponer de un patrón o estándar racial con fines de identificación, estudio, selección y mejoramiento de esta población. La investigación comprendió una muestra de 163 cabras adultas manejadas en ambiente extensivo, considerando 21 medidas morfométricas y 10 características fanerópticas; para el análisis morfométrico se aplicó una estadística no paramétrica con el Test de Kruskal-Wallis considerando como variables el sexo y los biotipos. Los resultados permitieron identificar 4 biotipos, que de acuerdo a ciertas características peculiares que presentan a nivel de cabeza y orejas se las ha identificado como: Chusca “oreja corta y doblada”, Chusca “oreja de león”, Chusca oreja “torneada” y Chusca “muca”; en el aspecto faneróptico presentan cuernos opistoceros (58%) y ortoceros (37%), siendo un 22% acornes (biotipo Chusca muca), poseen barba y mamelas el 26 y 29%, respectivamente, presentando estas dos características un dimorfismo en favor de los machos; la mayoría de esta población presenta un perfil de rostro recto (67%) y subcóncavo (28%); la forma de la ubre es globosa (64%), el color de pezones (93%) y cascos (87%) es pigmentado; los machos presentan testículos pendulosos (70%) y una característica peculiar es que poseen un escroto dividido en dos sacos (40%). En conclusión, la cabra Chusca es un animal con una tendencia productiva más a leche que a carne, destacando su capacidad torácica que le permite recorrer con facilidad por la topografía irregular de la zona en busca de alimento.

Abstract
Introduction It is well-known that university students experience high levels of mental health problems (1). University life presents changes and challenges that can be stressful and may affect the mental health of its community (2,3). More than 20 years ago, the Social Affairs Service (SAS) of the University of Salamanca started a program that ensured the mental health care in their community. The Psychiatric Care Unit is part of this program and its objectives are: 1) to detect serious mental disorders; 2) treat mild mental disorders; 3) give information to prevent illness and promote mental health; 4) serve as support in patients with previous follow-up that has been discontinued due to the beginning of their studies; 5) liaise with referral psychiatrists. Objectives To make known a Psychiatric Care Unit targeted in the university community Methods 18 people between 19 and 52 years old (22% male, 78% female) were evaluated between November and December of 2020 in the Psychiatric Care Unit of the Social Affairs Service (PCU-SAS, University of Salamanca). The assessment consisted in an interview carried out by a psychiatrist, in the presence of a medical graduate. Every patient belong to the university community (students/ staff). Results The most frequent diagnosis in the sample is Adjustment Disorder (F43.2). Substance use, eating disorders, low-self-concept, perfectionism and emotional dysregulation are very prevalent symptoms along our sample. Conclusions Universities should invest in creating environments that promote student and staff mental wellbeing. However, the current body of evidence is scarce and more research is needed to recommend what are the best strategies(4). Disclosure No significant relationships.

Abstract
Objectives Adherence clubs (AC) offer patient‐centred access to antiretroviral therapy (ART) while reducing the burden on health facilities. AC were implemented in a health centre in Mozambique specialising in patients with a history of HIV treatment failure. We explored the impact of AC on retention in care and VL suppression of these patients. Methods We performed a retrospective analysis of patients enrolled in AC receiving second‐ or third‐line ART. The Kaplan–Meier estimates were used to analyse retention in care in health facility, retention in AC and viral load (VL) suppression (VL < 1000 copies/mL). Predictors of attrition and VL rebound (VL ≥ 1000 copies/mL) were assessed using multivariable proportional hazards regression. Results The analysed cohort contained 699 patients, median age 40 years [IQR: 35–47], 428 (61%) female and 97% second‐line ART. Overall, 9 (1.3%) patients died, and 10 (1.4%) were lost to follow‐up. Retention in care at months 12 and 24 was 98.9% (95% CI: 98.2–99.7) and 96.4% (95% CI: 94.6–98.2), respectively. Concurrently, 85.8% (95% CI: 83.1–88.2) and 80.9% (95% CI: 77.8–84.1) of patients maintained VL suppression. No association between predictors and all‐cause attrition or VL rebound was detected. Among 90 patients attending AC and simultaneously having VL rebound, 64 (71.1%) achieved VL resuppression, 10 (11.1%) did not resuppress, and 14 (15.6%) had no subsequent VL result. Conclusion Implementation of AC in Mozambique was successful and demonstrated that patients with a history of HIV treatment failure can be successfully retained in care and have high VL suppression rate when enrolled in AC. Expansion of the AC model in Mozambique could improve overall retention in care and VL suppression while reducing workload in health facilities.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Spinal cord injury is a traumatic or non-traumatic event that causes an alteration of sensory, motor or autonomic functioning and ultimately affects the physical, psychological and social well-being of the person who suffers it. A comprehensive approach to spinal cord injury requires many health resources and can place a considerable financial burden on patients, their families and the community. AIM To review the literature published to date on the use of non-invasive brain stimulation, including repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS), transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS), and transcutaneous non-invasive spinal cord stimulation (tcSCS), as therapeutic strategies to improve the functionality of patients with spinal cord injury. The studies were grouped as addressing either non-invasive brain stimulation or non-invasive spinal cord stimulation. DEVELOPMENT Altogether 32 studies were identified: 21 involving brain stimulation (14 in rTMS and 7 in tDCS) and 11 with spinal cord stimulation (tcSCS). All the studies were conducted in adult patients who had undergone a spinal cord injury. Despite significant variability in treatment protocols, patient characteristics and clinical assessment, the changes observed were reported in almost all the studies without producing any side effects and with motor or functional improvement. CONCLUSION Non-invasive brain stimulation, as well as spinal cord stimulation, are promising techniques for the rehabilitation of patients with spinal cord injury due to their novelty, effectiveness and minimal side effects.

Abstract
Here we report the draft genome sequence of bacterial strain CR71, consisting of a single chromosome with 5,914,775 base pairs (bp), 34.7% G + C content, and 5733 protein-coding genes. Phylogenetic analysis indicates that the CR71 strain is affiliated with Bacillus thuringiensis species, with an average nucleotide identity > 96% and genome to genome distance > 70%. The genome of B. thuringiensis strain CR71 contains genes potentially involved in a wide variety of both plant pathogen-antagonistic and plant-growth-promoting activities, such as biofilm production; acetoin, butanediol, and indoleacetic acid (IAA) synthesis; production of quorum-sensing molecules; synthesis of toxins and lytic enzymes; and promotion of tolerance to oxidative, metal, and salt stress. Additionally, antiSMASH analysis revealed a potential synthesis of siderophores and peptide antibiotics. To confirm the in silico data, strain CR71 was inoculated into cucumber plants (Cucumis sativus L.) in a field trial, in which we observed an increase in stem thickness, as well as shoot fresh weight and length. Importantly, compared to un-inoculated control plants, plants inoculated with strain CR71 increased the size/weight ratio of cucumber fruits (34.99%), biovolume index (16.8%), and total fruit yield (34.97%). In conclusion, genome analysis of strain CR71 confirmed multifactorial plant-beneficial mechanisms and the potential of CR71 as an agricultural bio-inoculant.

Abstract
Internal stochastic resonance (internal SR) is a phenomenon of non-linear systems in which the addition of a non-zero level of noise produces an enhancement in the coherence between two or more signals. In a previous study, we found that the simultaneous administration of multisensory visual and auditory noise augments global coherence in electroencephalographic (EEG) signals via this phenomenon. Here, we examined whether such global coherence can also be augmented with at least one noisy acoustic source. We performed experiments on healthy subjects and applied the following binaural and monaural noise-stimulation protocols. First, we administered to the left ear Gaussian noise of fixed intensity, while we delivered to the right ear a second Gaussian noise of variable intensity levels (binaural protocol). Second, we applied the Gaussian noise of the same variable intensity levels but only to one ear (monaural protocol). We performed a permutation test analysis, finding that during both noise protocols there was a significant enhancement in the global coherence in EEG signals via the occurrence of internal SR within central pathways of the auditory system.

Abstract
In this work, 10 chemometric models based on Raman spectroscopy were constructed to predict the physicochemical properties of honey produced in the state of Campeche, Mexico. The properties of honey studied were pH, moisture, total soluble solids (TSS), free acidity, lactonic acidity, total acidity, electrical conductivity, Redox potential, hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF), and ash content. These proprieties were obtained according to the methods described by the Association of Official Analytical Chemists, Codex Alimentarius, and the International Honey Commission. For the construction of the chemometric models, 189 honey samples were collected and analyzed in triplicate using Raman spectroscopy to generate the matrix data [X], which were correlated with each of the physicochemical properties [Y]. The predictive capacity of each model was determined by cross validation and external validation, using the statistical parameters: standard error of calibration (SEC), standard error of prediction (SEP), coefficient of determination of cross-validation (R2cal), coefficient of determination for external validation (R2val), and Student's t-test. The statistical results indicated that the chemometric models satisfactorily predict the humidity, TSS, free acidity, lactonic acidity, total acidity, and Redox potential. However, the models for electric conductivity and pH presented an acceptable prediction capacity but not adequate to supply the conventional processes, while the models for predicting ash content and HMF were not satisfactory. The developed models represent a low-cost tool to analyze the quality of honey, and contribute significantly to increasing the honey distribution and subsequently the economy of the region.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Inadequate lung nodule surveillance leads to diagnostic delays. We implemented a retrospective intervention program, Nodule Net, to improve surveillance in our hospital. METHODS 9,224 Chest computed tomography (CT) scans between January 1, 2015 and December 31, 2016 were manually reviewed for lung nodules. For patients without follow-up, charts were reviewed to assess follow-up. If follow-up appeared indicated, the clinician or patient was contacted, and follow-up was tracked. RESULTS Lung nodules were identified on 5,101 (55%) of 9,224 scans. Follow-up was potentially indicated and not completed in 1,385 (27%). 183 (13%) were excluded after imaging review. 1,202 received outreach. Of the 801 (66%) with a provider in our system, 225 (27%) returned for follow-up. Nodules were stable in 199 (88%), new or growing in 23 (11%), resolved in 3 (1%), and stage 1 lung cancer in 2 (1%). 90 (11%) had follow-up outside our system and 431 (51%) had no follow-up due to a clinical contraindication. 55 (7%) have imaging pending and 14 (2%) are awaiting pulmonary evaluation. Of the 302 (25%) patients with providers outside our system, 121 (40%) had followed-up elsewhere. 146 (48%) had no follow-up due to a clinical reason. 35 (12%) providers did not respond to outreach. CONCLUSIONS We identified 1,202 patients with lung nodules who needed follow-up over a two-year period. Compliance was more successful with providers within our hospital system. We recommend robust surveillance for patients to ensure follow-up is completed and clinical contraindications are well documented.

Objective
Previous literature linked secure infant attachment to subsequent communication competency (Murray & Yingling, 2000). Less is known about that relationship in families of varying SES. This study explores how attachment and income at newborn, two, and four months correspond with communication development at nine and twelve months.
Methods
Longitudinal (n = 30) and cross-sectional (n = 102) reports from PediaTrac□, a parent-report web-based survey to track development (Lajiness-O’Neill, et al., 2018), were collected at newborn (NB; n = 41), two (2m; n = 38), four (4m; n = 37), nine (9m; n = 38), and twelve months (12m; n = 36). The cross-sectional sample had higher income (p = .01). Attachment was measured using PediaTrac□ and the Postpartum Bonding Questionnaire (PBQ; Brockington, Fraser & Wilson, 2006). Communication was measured using PediaTrac□.
Results
A linear regression model predicted communication development at 9m and 12m from attachment and income at NB, 2m, and 4m. PBQ attachment at 2m significantly predicted communication at 9m (b = 0.12, t = 2.28, p = .049). However, income was not significant, and neither attachment nor income at NB, 2m, or 4m predicted communication at 12m.
Conclusions
More secure attachment at two months was related to better communication outcomes at nine months regardless of SES. This finding highlights the importance of parent-infant relationships at two months of age on development, indicating further research on methods to promote secure attachment and positive parent-infant interaction in families of varying SES.

Abstract
The identification of glycoside hydrolases (GHs) for efficient polysaccharide deconstruction is essential for the development of biofuels. Here, we investigate the potential of sequential HMM-profile identification for the rapid and precise identification of the multi-domain architecture of GHs from various datasets. First, as a validation, we successfully reannotated >98% of the biochemically characterized enzymes listed on the CAZy database. Next, we analyzed the 43 million non-redundant sequences from the M5nr data and identified 322,068 unique GHs. Finally, we searched 129 assembled metagenomes retrieved from MG-RAST for environmental GHs and identified 160,790 additional enzymes. Although most identified sequences corresponded to single domain enzymes, many contained several domains, including known accessory domains and some domains never identified in association with GH. Several sequences displayed multiple catalytic domains and few of these potential multi-activity proteins combined potentially synergistic domains. Finally, we produced and confirmed the biochemical activities of a GH5-GH10 cellulase-xylanase and a GH11-CE4 xylanase-esterase. Globally, this "gene to enzyme pipeline" provides a rationale for mining large datasets in order to identify new catalysts combining unique properties for the efficient deconstruction of polysaccharides.

Abstract
Although numerous therapeutic strategies have attempted to target aerobic glycolysis to inhibit tumor progression, these approaches have not resulted in effective clinical outcomes. Murine squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) can be initiated by hair follicle stem cells (HFSCs). HFSCs utilize aerobic glycolysis, and the activity of lactate dehydrogenase (Ldh) is essential for HFSC activation. We sought to determine whether Ldh activity in SCC is critical for tumorigenesis or simply a marker of the cell type of origin. Genetic abrogation or induction of Ldh activity in HFSC-mediated tumorigenesis shows no effect on tumorigenesis as measured by number, time to formation, proliferation, volume, epithelial to mesenchymal transition, gene expression, or immune response. Ldha-null tumors show dramatically reduced levels of glycolytic metabolites by metabolomics, and significantly reduced glucose uptake by FDG-PET live animal imaging. These results suggest that squamous cancer cells of origin do not require increased glycolytic activity to generate cancers. Most tumours are characterized by increased aerobic glycolytic activity. Here the authors show that elevated aerobic glycolysis is not essential for cancer initiation by testing the effect of lactate dehydrogenase depletion on the ability of hair follicle stem cells (HFSCs) to form squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) in mouse genetic models.

Abstract
Chagas disease caused by Trypanosoma cruzi is a burden to millions of people in South and Central America. A sylvatic life cycle of the parasite exists in the Southern United States, but recent studies indicate an active peri-domestic life cycle of T. cruzi in Texas. The United States-Mexico border region in Texas displays areas of high poverty and sub-standard housing conditions which are important risk factors for a potential spill-over transmission to a domestic life cycle including humans. The objectives of the study were to examine short- and long-term temporal variation in vector activity and to evaluate the effect of different combinations of attractants on the capture of potential triatomine vectors. We collected local triatomine vectors (all of them identified as Triatoma gerstaeckeri) from a natural habitat in South Texas during the course of a year. The exact time of collection was recorded to examine the timing of flight activity of the triatomine vector. We also conducted a comparative study of the efficiency of 2 commonly used attractants (light and CO2) and the combination of those on the capture rate of Tr. gerstaeckeri. Our study indicates a short season of dispersal of Tr. gerstaeckeri (April/May) and it suggests a unimodal distribution of activity peaking between 2 and 3 hr after sunset. Ultra-violet light served as the main attractant of Tr. gerstaeckeri while CO2 from dry ice did not significantly contribute to the collection of vectors. The pronounced timing of activity in Tr. gerstaeckeri reported in this study contributes to our understanding of the epidemiology of T. cruzi in wildlife and its potential as a Chagas disease vector to humans in the Rio Grande Valley, South Texas.

Abstract
BackgroundMindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) is a psychotherapeutic intervention that has been shown effective in several clinical conditions. Nevertheless, research is still needed on its effectiveness on cognition.ObjectiveTo analyze possible effects on cognition of the addition of MBCT intervention versus a brief structured group psycho-education to the standard treatment of subsyndromal bipolar depression. Our hypothesis was that MBCT could improve some aspects of cognitive function to a higher degree than psycho-education and treatment as usual (TAU).Methods/designA randomized, multicenter, prospective, versus active comparator, evaluator-blinded clinical trial was conducted. Forty patients with BD and subclinical or mild depressive symptoms were randomly allocated to:– MBCT added to psychopharmacological treatment (n = 16);– a brief structured group psycho-educational intervention added to psychopharmacological treatment (n = 17);– standard clinical management, including psychopharmacological treatment (n = 7).Assessments were conducted at screening, baseline, post-intervention (8 weeks) and 4-month follow-up.ResultsCognition results point to significant improvement in Stroop Color test as well as processing speed in TMT A test (P < 0.05) in the two psychological intervention groups versus TAU.ConclusionThese preliminary findings suggest that the addition of MBCT or psycho-education to usual treatment could improve some cognitive dimensions in subsyndromal bipolar depressive patients.Disclosure of interestThe authors have not supplied their declaration of competing interest.

Abstract
espite considerable evidence that appropriate hand hygiene is the leading measure to prevent healthcare-associated infection, compliance with infection control recommendations remains low among healthcare workers. Literature regarding the role that concomitant glove use has on compliance with hand hygiene is limited and conflicting. The aims of this study were to examine healthcare workers' glove use by observation and to evaluate the effect that glove use has on compliance with hand hygiene. Non-participant observation was carried out on 12 randomly-selected wards in two district general hospitals. Although the overall compliance rate for glove use was high at 92%, gloves were also overused. The proportion of glove overuse was 42%. Overall hand hygiene compliance was 64%. However, hand hygiene compliance was significantly worse following glove overuse, demonstrating that inappropriate glove use may be a component of poor hand hygiene compliance. Recommendations arising from these results are that, in order to improve adherence to hand hygiene recommendations, multi-faceted interventions should be aimed at changing healthcare workers' glove use behaviour.

Abstract
he aim of this study was to examine healthcare workers' knowledge and attitudes to glove use. A cross-sectional survey was carried out in two district general hospitals in southern England, using a self-completion questionnaire. The results showed a good overall knowledge of glove use, although knowledge could be improved in relation to standard precautions. Respondents had positive attitudes towards the use of gloves to protect against acquiring an infection, the availability of gloves, and acting as a role model to other staff. Respondents had negative attitudes towards the effect of gloves on dexterity. Interventions could be aimed at staff education and training regarding glove use. Attitudes to glove use could be improved by interventions that emphasise the advantages of wearing gloves and counteract the perceived disadvantages.

Abstract
Luminescent gold nanoclusters (AuNCs) with good biocompatibility have gained much attention in bio-photonics. In addition, they also exhibit a unique photo-physical property, namely thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF), by which both singlet and triplet excitons can be harvested. The combination of their non-toxic material property and unique TADF behavior makes AuNCs biocompatible nano-emitters for bio-related light-emitting devices. Unfortunately, the TADF emission is quenched when colloidal AuNCs are transferred to solid states under ambient environment. Here, a facile, low-cost and effective method was used to generate efficient and stable TADF emissions from solid AuNCs under ambient environment using polyvinyl alcohol as a solid matrix. To unravel the underlying mechanism, temperature-dependent static and transient photoluminescence measurements were performed and we found that two factors are crucial for solid TADF emission: small energy splitting between singlet and triplet states and the stabilization of the triplet states. Solid TADF films were also deposited on the flexible plastic substrate with patterned structures, thus mitigating the waveguide-mode losses. In addition, we also demonstrated that warm white light can be generated based on a co-doped single emissive layer, consisting of non-toxic, solution-processed TADF AuNCs and fluorescent carbon dots under UV excitation.

Abstract
Background and Purpose—
A progressive decline in the odds of favorable outcome as time to reperfusion increases is well known. However, the impact of specific workflow intervals is not clear.
Methods—
We studied the mechanical thrombectomy group (n=103) of the prospective, randomized REVASCAT (Randomized Trial of Revascularization With Solitaire FR Device Versus Best Medical Therapy in the Treatment of Acute Stroke due to Anterior Circulation Large Vessel Occlusion Presenting Within Eight Hours of Symptom Onset) trial. We defined 3 workflow metrics: time from symptom onset to reperfusion (OTR), time from symptom onset to computed tomography, and time from computed tomography (CT) to reperfusion. Clinical characteristics, core laboratory-evaluated Alberta Stroke Program Early CT Scores (ASPECTS) and 90-day outcome data were analyzed. The effect of time on favorable outcome (modified Rankin scale, 0–2) was described via adjusted odds ratios (ORs) for every 30-minute delay.
Results—
Median admission National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale was 17.0 (14.0–20.0), reperfusion rate was 66%, and rate of favorable outcome was 43.7%. Mean (SD) workflow times were as follows: OTR: 342 (107) minute, onset to CT: 204 (93) minute, and CT to reperfusion: 138 (56) minute. Longer OTR time was associated with a reduced likelihood of good outcome (OR for 30-minute delay, 0.74; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.59–0.93). The onset to CT time did not show a significant association with clinical outcome (OR, 0.87; 95% CI, 0.67–1.12), whereas the CT to reperfusion interval showed a negative association with favorable outcome (OR, 0.72; 95% CI, 0.54–0.95). A similar subgroup analysis according to admission ASPECTS showed this relationship for OTR time in ASPECTS<8 patients (OR, 0.56; 95% CI, 0.35–0.9) but not in ASPECTS≥8 (OR, 0.99; 95% CI, 0.68–1.44).
Conclusions—
Time to reperfusion is negatively associated with favorable outcome, being CT to reperfusion, as opposed to onset to CT, the main determinant of this association. In addition, OTR was strongly associated to outcome in patients with low ASPECTS scores but not in patients with high ASPECTS scores.

Abstract
IntroductionAnti-NMDA receptor (NMDAR) encephalitis, formally recognized in 2007 by Dalmau et al, is an autoimmune disorder with a complex presentation that includes psychiatric symptoms, memory deficits, and autonomic instability. The exact incidence is unknown but age, gender, and ethnicity may all play a role. Presence of antibodies against the GluN1 subunit of the NMDAR in the CSF and serum confirm the diagnosis of NMDAR encephalitis.Case reportWe report the case of a previously healthy, 19-year-old woman, 6 weeks pregnant. She had a generalized tonic-clonic seizure followed by psychiatric symptoms, including insomnia, emotional lability, delusions, and disorganized behavior. During the course of the disease, she demonstrated speech impairments and catatonic features associated with abnormal movements.She was provided lorazepam 1 mg twice a day to treat her catatonic symptoms, her insomnia and her speech improved. Olanzapine was introduced, reaching a dose of 20 mg/day for managing psychosis and agitation.DiscussionNMDA-R encephalitis is a novel disorder with prominent psychiatric manifestations that is widely underdiagnosed. Neuroleptics may be helpful for managing psychosis and agitation, but may exacerbate movement abnormalities. Benzodiazepines are helpful for agitation, insomnia and catatonia associated with this condition.ConclusionEarlier recognition of this illness is crucial as prompt diagnosis and multidisciplinary treatment, can potentially improve prognosis. There is an increasing need for psychiatrists to become aware of the disorder and consider it in their differential diagnosis, specially in patients with new onset psychosis, history of encephalitis or subtle neurological symptoms. Abstract
The stochastic resonance (SR) is a phenomenon of nonlinear systems in which the addition of an intermediate level of noise improves the response of such system. Although SR has been studied in isolated hair cells and in the bullfrog sacculus, the occurrence of this phenomenon in the vestibular system in development is unknown. The purpose of the present study was to explore for the existence of SR via natural mechanical-stimulation in the hair cell-vestibular primary afferent transmission. In vitro experiments were performed on the posterior semicircular canal of the chicken inner ear during development. Our experiments showed that the signal-to-noise ratio of the afferent multiunit activity from E15 to P5 stages of development exhibited the SR phenomenon, which was characterized by an inverted U-like response as a function of the input noise level. The inverted U-like graphs of SR acquired their higher amplitude after the post-hatching stage of development. Blockage of the synaptic transmission with selective antagonists of the NMDA and AMPA/Kainate receptors abolished the SR of the afferent multiunit activity. Furthermore, computer simulations on a model of the hair cell - primary afferent synapse qualitatively reproduced this SR behavior and provided a possible explanation of how and where the SR could occur. These results demonstrate that a particular level of mechanical noise on the semicircular canals can improve the performance of the vestibular system in their peripheral sensory processing even during embryonic stages of development.

Abstract
We analyzed the effects of chemically blocking type 1 muscarinic receptors (M1R) on either the left or right ovary on ovulation rate, number of ova shed and steroid hormones levels. M1R were unilaterally blocked in ovary with the M1R selective antagonist pirenzepine (PZP). PZP was delivered into the bursa ovarica of the left or right ovary of adult rats at 13:00 h on proestrus day. PZP treatment in the left but not in the right ovary blocked ovulation. PZP did not modify the number of ova shed, nor progesterone or 17β-estradiol serum levels. The surge of luteinizing hormone levels was diminished while that of follicle-stimulating hormone did not change in animals treated with PZP in the left ovary. Interestingly, treatment with either synthetic luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone or human chorionic gonadotropin 1 h after PZP administration in the left ovary restored ovulation in both ovaries. The presence of M1R protein in the theca cells of the ovarian follicles as well as in cells of the corpus luteum was detected on proestrus day. These results suggest that M1R activation in the left ovary is required for pre-ovulatory gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) secretion and ovulation. Furthermore, these results also suggest that M1R in the left ovary might be regulating ovulation asymmetrically through a stimulatory neural signal relayed to the hypothalamus via the vagus nerve to induce the GnRH secretion which then triggers ovulation.

Abstract
A fundamental problem in neurophysiology is the understanding of neuronal mechanisms by which the central nervous system produces a sequence of voluntary or involuntary motor acts from a diverse repertory of movements. These kinds of transitions between motor acts are extremely complex; however, they could be analyzed in a more simple form in decerebrate animals in the context of spinal central pattern generation. Here, we present for the first time a physiological phenomenon of post-scratching locomotion in which decerebrate cats exhibit a compulsory locomotor activity after an episode of scratching. We found flexor, extensor and intermediate single interneurons rhythmically firing in the same phase during both scratching and the subsequent post-scratching locomotion. Because no changes in phase of these neurons from scratching to post-scratching locomotion were found, we suggest that in the lumbar spinal cord there are neurons associated with both motor tasks. Moreover, because of its high reproducibility we suggest that the study of post-scratching fictive locomotion, together with the unitary recording of neurons, could become a useful tool to study neuronal mechanisms underlying transitions from one rhythmic motor task to another, and to study in more detail the central pattern generator circuitry in the spinal cord.
