Abstract
Herein, we report a mild and efficient hydroxymethylation of quinolines via an iron promoted cross-dehydrogenative coupling reaction under external acid free conditions. Various hydroxyalkyl substituted quinolines were achieved in excellent yields with well tolerated functional groups. Importantly, a few of the hydroxylmethylated quinolines were further transformed into respective aldehydes, and were successfully utilized for the synthesis of alkaloid arsindoline-A and its derivatives.

Abstract
Herein, we report the versatile synthetic strategy and opto-electronic properties for the phosphorylation of BODIPY derivatives 5aa-5ak by substituting with an electron-donating/withdrawing group at the ortho position. Nevertheless, this new methodology relatively promotes the tolerance of the aldehyde moiety and the high yield for the synthesis of BODIPY o-OPhos derivatives. The photophysical studies suggest improved optical properties due to the inductive effect of various electron-donating/withdrawing groups. The UV-visible and the emission data suggest that BODIPY o-OPhos derivatives emphasize the property of the excited states with an increase in fluorescence intensity and high quantum yields due to the presence of bulky phospsho-triester at the meso- position which hinders the free rotation around the C-Ar bond and facilitates the development of OLEDs and various organophosphorus warfare agents. Electrochemical studies reveal 5ak depicts the ease of redox activity amongst the 5aa-5ak derivatives. The density functional theory indicates the highest occupied molecular orbital on the BODIPY moiety whereas the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital delocalized on BODIPY and the phospho-triester moieties. Thus, the unique development of the novel BODIPY derivatives with improved optical and redox properties pave the way for fluorescent probes and bioimaging techniques.

Abstract
The present paper is a contribution to the first initiative of the Port Baseline Survey (PBS) for Non-indigenous species (NIS) in the Mediterranean Sea. It presents a report on the soft-bottom macrobenthos from the five Adriatic ports: Bari, Ancona (Italy), Koper (Slovenia), Pula, Rijeka (Croatia), with a focus on the presence and contribution of NIS to native assemblages. Out of 451 species identified, only four were common to all ports. A total of eight NIS were recorded, five in surveyed ports and three in the lagoon connected to the Port of Koper. The highest number of NIS was recorded in Bari, and the highest abundance in Ancona and Bari. Generally, the number, abundance and contribution of NIS seems too low to cause a substantial impact on native communities in surveyed ports. The suitability of methods adopted for PBS for soft-bottom NIS was discussed and suggestion for methodological improvement is provided.

Abstract
Invasive papillary carcinoma of the breast is a rare, distinct variant comprising approximately less than 1-2% of all newly diagnosed cases of breast carcinoma and is usually found in postmenopausal women with a more favorable prognosis. We report an unusual case in a 45-year-old perimenopausal female who came with a complaint of lump in right breast for duration of 1 year. A simple mastectomy was undertaken for histopathological study and immunohistochemistry (IHC) which showed characteristic features of an invasive papillary breast carcinoma. We present this case in view of its rarity and to highlight this clinicopathological subtype for its good prognosis and to avoid overtreatment.

Abstract
Hidrocystomas are rare cystic lesions that form benign tumours of the sweat glands. In this report, a clinical case of multiple apocrine hidrocystomas on both the upper and lower eyelids, and on both the malar regions has been discussed. These lesions are less likely than the eccrine lesions to occur at the periorbital region.

Abstract
Liposarcoma of the paratesticular region is a rare malignant soft tissue neoplasm. Out of all the possible sites of liposarcoma, the incidence in spermatic cord is rare, accounting for only 5% of these neoplasms. Among the various subtypes of liposarcoma described in the paratesticular region, myxoid variant of liposarcoma is seen very rarely. One such case is we ported here for its rarity and also to draw attention to the fact that, early diagnosis and complete excision carry better prognostic value.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND STUDY AIM The aim was to evaluate the 30-day mortality after endoscopy for suspected upper gastrointestinal bleed, following the implementation of national audit guidelines at our hospital. PATIENTS AND METHODS All patients with suspected upper gastrointestinal bleeding, referred for endoscopy to our teaching hospital between October 2001 and December 2003, were included in a prospective cohort study. RESULTS A total of 716 patients with suspected upper gastrointestinal tract haemorrhage were referred for urgent endoscopy. The median age was 69 years (interquartile range 51 - 80 years). Bleeding from peptic ulcer remained the single most common endoscopic diagnosis (40 %). The overall re-bleeding rate for all patients with a gastrointestinal haemorrhage was 10 %. The overall 30-day mortality rate was 14.6 %. This was not significantly different from the mortality rate in 1995 of 10.5 % ( P = 0.11). Patients who died were significantly older (78 vs. 67 years, 95 %CI of the difference 5 to 12, P < 0.001). However, in only 29 % (30/105) was gastrointestinal haemorrhage stated in the death certificate as a factor which contributed to their death. CONCLUSIONS Our results show that implementing the good practice guideline has a limited impact on overall mortality because of contributing factors that are beyond the control of clinicians.
