Abstract
BACKGROUND Anhedonia, the core symptom of major depressive disorder (MDD), is highly prevalent in patients with depression. Anhedonia is associated with low efficacy of drug treatment, high suicide rates, and poor social function. Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) is a non-invasive neuromodulation technology that uses constant, low-intensity direct current to treat MDD by regulating cortical activity and neuronal excitability. However, little is known about the efficacy of tDCS for treating anhedonia in patients with depression, and even the existing results of clinical trials are conflicting. In addition, there is no consensus on what brain regions should be targeted by tDCS during the treatment of anhedonia in patients with depression. OBJECTIVE This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of tDCS over the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) and right orbitofrontal cortex (OFC) in the improvement of anhedonia in patients with depression and finally identified suitable brain regions to be stimulated during treatment. METHODS This randomized, double-blind, sham-controlled clinical trial recruited 70 patients with anhedonia and depressive episodes. Patients were randomly assigned to three groups according to the stimulation site: right orbitofrontal cortex (OFC), left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC), and sham stimulation. Each group received twelve 20-min interventions (ten as primary treatment and two for consolidation). The primary outcome was a decrease in Snaith-Hamilton Pleasure Scale (SHAPS) scores after primary treatment. Evaluations were performed at baseline, post-treatment, and 8-week follow-up. RESULTS The depression mood of the three groups of patients at each time point was better than the baseline, but there was no significant difference in the efficacy between the groups (p>0.05). On the basis of the improvement of depression, this study found that tDCS of the DLPFC significantly improved anhedonia (p = 0.028) after primary treatment (2 weeks), and tDCS of the DLPFC and OFC significantly improved social functioning (p = 0.005) at 8-week follow-up. LIMITATIONS The sample size of this study was small, with only about 23/24 patients in each group completing the intervention assessments; due to the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic, data analysis was limited by the lack of patients during the follow-up period. CONCLUSIONS tDCS of the DLPFC significantly improves anhedonia in depressed patients and is thus a potential adjuvant therapy for anhedonia in these patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The problem of suicide has become increasingly common in individuals with major depressive disorder (MDD). Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) is an effective treatment for MDD with 2 milliamperes (mA) for at least 30 min per day for 2 weeks. This study aims to investigate the efficacy of daily duration-doubled tDCS as an adjunctive intervention for rapidly reducing suicidal ideation and improving depression in MDD patients. METHODS In this double-blind, randomized, sham-controlled study, 76 MDD patients with suicidal ideation are randomly assigned to either active (n=38) or sham (n=38) tDCS group. The anode and cathode are placed over the scalp areas corresponding to left and right dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC), respectively, and each stimulation lasts for 60 min. The primary outcome is defined as change of Beck Scale for Suicide Ideation (BSI) after 5 and 10 sessions. The change of other clinical assessments, blood biomarkers related to suicidal ideation and depressive sumptoms are defined as secondary outcomes. Blood biomarkers related to suicidal ideation are collected at baseline and after 10 sessions. DISCUSSION This study suggests the adjunctive duration-doubled tDCS might be a novel method to rapidly reduce suicidal ideation and improve depressive symptom. The variation of biomarkers could be potential predictive models of suicide risk. TRIAL REGISTRATION The trial protocol is registered with ClinicalTrials.gov under protocol registration number NCT05555927. Registered on September 25, 2022.

Abstract
We investigated whether changes through doubling the duration of each tDCS session would increase efficacy of tDCS for depression. tDCS was applied for 10 sessions, followed by two additional weekly sessions. 63 patients with MDD underwent randomization, with 22 being assigned to 60-min/d group, 25 to 30 min/d group, and 16 to sham group. HAMD-17 reductive ratios at week 2 and 4 were of no significant differences among treatment groups. 60 min group had a greater decrease in anxiety compared to 30 min group and sham group based on HAMA at 4 weeks but only in the completer analysis, not in ITT analysis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Sleep deprivation (SD) has been suggested to have a rapid antidepressant effect. There is substantial evidence that neuroinflammation and neuroplasticity play critical roles in the pathophysiology and treatment of depression. Here, we investigated the mechanisms of SD to alleviate depression-like behaviors of mice, and the role of neuroinflammation and neuroplasticity in it. METHODS Adult male C57BL/6 J mice were subjected to chronic restraint stress (CRS) for 6 weeks, and 6 h of SD were administrated. Behavioral tests were performed to measure depression-like behaviors. RNA-sequencing and bioinformatic analysis were performed in the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC). The differentially expressed genes were confirmed by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR). Neuroinflammation and neuroplasticity were measured by western blotting and immunofluorescence staining. RESULTS Behavioral tests demonstrated that SD swiftly attenuated the depression-like behaviors induced by CRS. RNA-sequencing identified the upregulated immune and inflammatory pathways after CRS exposure were downregulated by SD. Furthermore, SD reversed the levels of immune and inflammation-related mRNA, pro-inflammatory factors and microglia activation in ACC. Additionally, the impaired neuroplasticity elicited by CRS in the prefrontal cortex (PFC) and ACC were improved by SD. LIMITATIONS More in-depth studies are required to determine the role of different SD protocols in depressive symptoms and their underlying mechanisms. CONCLUSIONS Our study revealed the rapid antidepressant effect of SD on CRS mice through the reduction of the neuroinflammatory response in ACC and the improvement of neuroplasticity in PFC and ACC, providing a theoretical basis for the clinical application of SD as a rapid antidepressant treatment.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To explore the factors influencing anhedonia at baseline and use them as confounding factors. To further investigate the correlation between overt aggression and anhedonia during the acute phase of major depressive disorder. METHODS In this eight-week prospective study, 384 major depressive disorder patients were recruited from the outpatient section of Shanghai Mental Health Center from May 1, 2017, to October 30, 2018. Standard treatments were performed with escitalopram or venlafaxine for participants. Depressive symptoms, overt aggression, and anhedonia were assessed using the 17-item Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression, Modified Overt Aggression Scale, and Snaith-Hamilton Pleasure Scale at baseline, and in the 4th and 8th weeks. RESULTS Obsessive-compulsive symptoms and the duration of untreated psychosis were positively associated with aggression (P < 0.05). Patients with aggressive behaviour had worse cognitive impairment and severe anhedonia of pleasurable sensory experiences (P < 0.05). For anhedonia, being female (tau_b = -0.23, P = 0.012) was a protective factor, while number of recurrent, melancholic features, current obsessions, previous combination drug therapies, depressive symptoms, and aggressive behaviour were risk factors (P < 0.05). Social anhedonia related to interests/pastimes, and pleasurable sensory experiences were more severe in major depressive disorder patients with aggressive behaviour in the acute phase (P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS Anhedonia persisted in major depressive disorder patients with aggressive behaviour after standardized treatment during the acute phase. Being female protected the pleasures from social interaction and sensory experience. However, the number of depressive episodes, melancholic features, current obsessive symptoms, previous combination drug therapies, depressive symptoms, and aggressive behaviour was positively associated with anhedonia.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Subjective cognitive decline (SCD) is highlighted in patients with major depressive disorder (MDD), which impairs objective cognitive performance and worsens the clinical outcomes. Immune dysregulation is supposed to be the potential mechanism of cognitive impairment. However, the peripheral immune biomarkers in patients troubled with MDD and SCD are not conventionally described. METHODS A prospective-observational study was conducted for 8 weeks. Subjective cognitive function was measured using the Chinese version of the 20-item perceived deficits questionnaire-depression (PDQ-D) and depression symptoms were evaluated with Hamilton Depression Rating Scale-17 (HDRS-17). Luminex assays were used to measure 48 immune cytokines in plasma at baseline. Integrating these results and clinicopathological features, a logistic regression model was used to develop a prognostic prediction. RESULTS Totally, 114 patients were enrolled in this study. Among the patients who completed follow-up, 56% (N = 50) had residual subjective cognitive decline, and 44% (N = 50) did not. The plasma levels of FGF basic, INF-γ, IL-1β, MCP-1, M-CSF and SCF were increased and the levels of IL-9, RANTES and PDGF-BB were decreased in the SCD group. Additionally, Basic FGF, IFN-γ, IL-1β, and SCF were positively correlated and IL-9, RANTES, and PDGF-BB were negatively correlated with the PDQ-D scores after treatment. Notably, combinations of cytokines (SCF and PDGF-BB) and PDQ-D scores at baseline showed good performance (The area under the receiver operating characteristic curve = 0.818) in the prediction of subjective cognitive decline. CONCLUSION A prognostic model based on protein concentrations of SCF, PDGF-BB, and scores of PDQ-D showed considerable accuracy in predicting residual subjective cognitive decline in depression.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Frailty has become an independent risk factor for adverse outcomes in critically ill patients. This study aimed to explore the predictive ability of two electronic medical record-based frailty assessment tools, the Hospital Frailty Risk Score (HFRS) and Frailty Index based on physiological and laboratory tests (FI-lab), for long-term adverse prognosis in older critically ill survivors. DESIGN Retrospective observational study. SETTING AND PARTICIPANTS 9,082 critically ill survivors aged ≥ 65 years. MEASUREMENTS The HFRS and the 33-item FI-lab were constructed based on the published literature. Cox and logistic regression models assessed the association between frailty and 1-year mortality and post-discharge care needs. RESULTS 2,586 patients died within 1 year of follow-up. In fully adjusted models, frailty assessed using both the HFRS (per point, hazard ratio [HR] 1.06, 95% confidential interval [CI] 1.05-1.06; intermediate frailty risk, HR 2.00, 95% CI 1.78-2.25; high frailty risk, HR 3.06, 95% CI 2.68-3.50) and FI-lab (per 0.01 points, HR 1.03, 95% CI 1.03-1.03; intermediate frailty risk, HR 1.59, 95% CI 1.44-1.76; high frailty risk, HR 2.30, 95% CI 2.06-2.57) was associated with mortality. Addition of frailty indicators improved the predictive validity of the Sequential Organ Failure Assessment score for mortality (HFRS alone ∆ C-index 0.034; FI-lab alone ∆ C-index 0.016; HFRS and FI-lab combined ∆ C-index 0.042). The HFRS but not the FI-lab was associated with higher probability of post-discharge care needs. CONCLUSION Both the HFRS and FI-lab could independently predict 1-year mortality in older critically ill survivors. Adding the HFRS to the SOFA score model improved it more than adding the FI-lab. The greatest improvement was achieved when both frailty indicators were used together. These findings suggest that electronic medical record-based frailty assessment methods can be useful tools for predicting long-term outcomes in older critically ill patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Treatment-resistant depression (TRD) carries a high economic burden worldwide. Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) is advantageous for improving cognition and can be safely used in the treatment of depression. The effectiveness of tDCS of the left and right orbitofrontal cortex (OFC) as adjuvant treatment in patients with TRD has rarely been explored. Therefore, the objective of this trial is to evaluate the effectiveness there of when administering left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) positive stimulation or OFC negative stimulation in patients with TRD. METHODS Ninety eligible participants will be recruited to receive intervention at Shanghai Mental Health Center. Treatment will be randomly assigned in a double-blind fashion. Participants will receive either DLPFC (n = 30), OFC (n = 30), or sham (n = 30) tDCS, while continuing their usual pharmacotherapy at a stable dosage for at least 2 weeks before enrollment and throughout the stimulation period. All participants will receive 20 weekday stimulation sessions of 60 minutes duration each. Participants in the active group will be stimulated at 2 mA throughout the session, whereas the sham group will receive only a brief period of stimulation to mimic the sensation. After 20 stimulation sessions, no further treatment will be administered. Measurements will be conducted at regular points throughout and at 8 weeks after trial completion. The primary outcome is the change in the 17-item Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAMD-17) score after 20 sessions. Secondary outcomes were defined as changes in other measurement scales, cognitive function, resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI), and serum biomarkers. DISCUSSION We hypothesize that, in contrast to the sham group, both the active DLPFC and OFC tDCS groups will show superiority in HAMD-17 score reduction after 5, 10, and 20 sessions. Moreover, associations of the improvement of depressive symptoms with variations in rs-fMRI and TRD-related biomarkers will be evaluated. Our study may suggest that adjunctive intensive tDCS with left DLPFC positive stimulation or right OFC negative stimulation may be effective as a novel method to relieve depressive symptoms in patients with TRD. The variation of rs-fMRI, biomarkers could be used as a potential prediction model of treatment efficacy in TRD. TRIAL REGISTRATION The trial protocol is registered with www.chictr.org.cn under protocol registration number ChiCTR2200058030. Date of registration: March 27, 2022. Recruitment started in September 2022 and is ongoing.

Abstract
Major depressive disorder is a burdensome condition with few treatment options, and traditional antidepressants are characterized by slow onset. Sub-anesthetic ketamine has rapid-onset effects for the treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD), the mechanisms of which remain elusive. In this study, we explored whether neuroplasticity, autophagy, and ferroptosis in the habenular nucleus are involved in the rapid antidepressant process of ketamine. The results showed that Chronic Restraint Stress (CRS) treated rats exhibited decreased neuroplasticity, inhibition of autophagy, and enhanced ferroptosis. Depression-like symptoms were significantly improved after ketamine treatment in CRS rats, with changes in physiological parameters. Ketamine-treated CRS rats showed a significant improvement in habenular nuclear neuroplasticity. Electron microscopy observed that ketamine triggered autophagy, with increased levels of autophagy-related proteins. Ferroptosis was inhibited by ketamine by electron microscopy, with increased FTH1 and GPX4 levels and decreased Tfr1 levels. In conclusion, our findings demonstrate that ketamine may exert rapid antidepressant effects by improving neuroplasticity, activating autophagy, and inhibiting ferroptosis in the nuclear complex.

Abstract
Objective: To explore the dynamic changes of Distress Thermometer scores and the relationship between psychological distress and quality of life in Chinese early breast cancer patients during chemotherapy. Methods: This prospective study enrolled 110 Chinese postoperative early breast cancer patients between March 2019 and December 2019. The psychological distress and quality of life (QOL) of patients were assessed by using the psychological distress management screening tool and the patient quality of life scale. Logistic regression model was used to analyze the influencing factors of psychological distress degree. The correlation between distress thermometer (DT) score changes and quality of life was analyzed by Pearson correlation analysis. Results: In total, 96 valid cases were analyzed. Before chemotherapy, 47 cases (49.0%) had DT score ≥4 points. After 2 cycles of chemotherapy, 40 cases (41.7%) had DT score ≥4 points. Thirty-four patients (35.4%) had DT score ≥4 points after chemotherapy. The DT score after chemotherapy was lower than that before chemotherapy and after 2 cycles of chemotherapy. Univariate analysis showed that income level and pathological stage were still significant related to the detection of DT score ≥4 points after chemotherapy (P<0.05). The changes of DT scores before and after chemotherapy were negatively correlated with the changes of quality of life ( r=-0.298, P=0.003). Conclusions: The detection rate of psychological distress in patients with early breast cancer during chemotherapy showed a decreasing trend. Income level and tumor stage are significant factors affecting the psychological distress of patients. There is a significant correlation between the psychological distress and the quality of life during chemotherapy. We should pay attention to the evaluation and monitoring state of psychological distress of patients during chemotherapy.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Sub-anesthetic ketamine has rapid-onset effects for the treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD). However, the mechanism underlying ketamine's antidepressant properties remains unclear. Recent studies have reported an interrelationship between autophagy and the inflammasome, both of which are involved in the pathophysiology of MDD. In this study, we assess whether ketamine exerts its antidepressant effects via an association with the autophagy-NLRP3 inflammasome pathway. METHODS We established a depressive-like rat model by treating Wistar Kyoto rats with chronic restraint stress (CRS) for 28 days. Microglial cells from newborn Sprague-Dawley rats were used for in vitro experiments. RESULTS We found sub-anesthetic ketamine treatment reversed depressive-like behavior in CRS rats. Ketamine triggered autophagy in the microglia of prefrontal cortex (PFC) and (hippocampus) HPC, with increased levels of LC3B, decreased levels of p62 protein, and elevated autophagosomes both in vivo and in vitro. Moreover, NLRP3 inflammasome activation was also inhibited by ketamine, with reduced expression of NLRP3-ASC-CASP1 assembly and decreased IL-1β levels in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) as well as in the serum. Increased BDNF levels and synaptophysin levels were detected in the ketamine-treated group. The rapid anti-depressive effects, elevation of autophagy, reduction in NLRP3, and neuroplasticity-related factors induced by ketamine could be significantly blocked by the autophagy inhibitor Baf A1 (0.1 mg/kg). CONCLUSIONS Our findings demonstrate that sub-anesthetic doses of ketamine exert their antidepressant-like effects by inhibiting inflammation and initiating neuroprotection via autophagy activation. These data might help expand future investigations on the antidepressant properties of ketamine.

Abstract
Background Sleep disturbances and benzodiazepine (BZD)/Z-drug use are common in patients with bipolar disorder (BD). Objective To investigate the short- and long-term effects of BZD/Z-drug use during acute affective episode. Methods Participants diagnosed with BD as well as sleep disturbance chose BZDs/Z-drugs or not at will. Manic and depressive symptoms were assessed by Mental Disorders Questionnaire (MDQ) and Quick Inventory of Depressive Symptoms (QIDS) as self-reporting surveys. The participants were assessed by trained evaluators at baseline and months 1, 3, 6, and 9. Results 61 patients with BD combined sleep disturbances were studied. At baseline, patients who used BZDs/Z-drugs had more amount of mood stabilizers (p = 0.038), other psychotropic medications (p = 0.040), and more risk of suicide attempt (p = 0.019). The BZD/Z-drug group had a significantly higher QIDS reductive ratio as compared with the no BZD/Z-drug group at month 1; no significant differences in the variability of MDQ, QIDS reductive ratio, or recurrence rate were found between these two groups at baseline, month 1, month 3, month 6, or month 9. Conclusions During acute affective episode, patients with BD combined sleep disturbance who took BZDs/Z-drugs tended to use more amount of mood stabilizers. Polytherapy of BZDs/Z-drugs or other psychiatric drugs could increase suicide attempt during an acute affective episode. BZD/Z-drug use, however, had a significant effect on helping depressive symptoms alleviate during affective period.

Abstract
This study was to investigate the characteristics of seasonal symptoms and non-enzymatic oxidative stress in the first hospitalized patients with bipolar and unipolar depression, aiming to differentiate bipolar depression from unipolar depression and reduce their misdiagnosis. A total of 450 patients with bipolar depression and 855 patients with depression were included in the present study. According to the season when the patients were admitted to the hospital due to the acute onset of depression, they were further divided into spring, summer, autumn and winter groups. According to the characteristics of symptoms of bipolar disorder in the DSM-5, the characteristic symptoms of bipolar disorder were collected from the medical record information, and clinical biochemical indicators that can reflect the oxidative stress were also recorded. The seasonal risk factors in patients with bipolar or unipolar depression were analyzed. The relationship of age and gender with the bipolar or unipolar depression which attacked in winter was explored. There were significant differences between groups in the melancholic features, atypical features and conjugated bilirubin in spring. In summer, there were significant differences between groups in the melancholic features, uric acid and conjugated bilirubin. In autumn, there were marked differences between groups in melancholic features, anxiety and pain, atypical features, uric acid, total bilirubin, conjugated bilirubin and albumin. In winter, the conjugated bilirubin and prealbumin were significantly different between two groups. The melancholic features and uric acid that in summer as well as melancholic features, uric acid and total bilirubin in autumn were the seasonal independent risk factors for the unipolar depression as compared to bipolar depression. In winter, significant difference was noted in the age between two groups. In conclusion, compared with patients with unipolar depression, patients with bipolar depression have seasonal characteristics. Clinical symptoms and indicators of oxidative stress may become factors for the differentiation of seasonal unipolar depression from bipolar depression. Young subjects aged 15-35 years are more likely to develop bipolar depression in winter.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The co-occurrence of insomnia and hypersomnia symptoms in patients with major depressive disorder (MDD) is associated with suicidal ideation and functional impairment. The relationship between sleep disturbances and clinical features and outcomes may not be adequately studied. In this study, we measured the functional impairments and clinical features of co-occurring insomnia and hypersomnia symptoms in Chinese patients with MDD. METHODS A post-hoc analysis was performed on data from the National Survey on Symptomatology of Depression (NSSD), which assessed the MDD patients in 32 hospitals by a clinician-rating questionnaire. The clinical features and outcomes were compared among the following four groups: insomnia symptom only, hypersomnia symptom only, both insomnia and hypersomnia symptoms, no sleep disturbance, respectively. RESULTS Totally, 234 (7.15%) of 3275 participants with MDD co-occurred insomnia and hypersomnia symptoms. They had more depressive symptoms (27.41 ± 9.123), higher rate of suicide ideation (39.7%), more severe impairment in physical (58.1%), economic (32.9%), work (55.1%), and relationship with families (29.5%). Patients with both sleep disturbances were more likely to excessive worry about sleep, have suicidal ideation, the distress of social disharmony, more somatic symptoms, lack of energy, hyperphagia, loss of mood reactivity, and diurnal change, whereas less likely to have anxious mood. LIMITATIONS Sleep disorders were not diagnosed by current standard diagnostic criteria. CONCLUSIONS Patients co-occurring with both sleep disturbances are associated with a higher rate of suicide risk and poorer social function. Our study could provide implications for suicidal risk evaluation and the development of therapeutic strategies for depression.

Abstract
TanSat is the 1st Chinese carbon dioxide (CO2) measurement satellite, launched in 2016. In this study, the University of Leicester Full Physics (UoL-FP) algorithm is implemented for TanSat nadir mode XCO2 retrievals. We develop a spectrum correction method to reduce the retrieval errors by the online fitting of an 8th order Fourier series. The spectrum-correction model and its a priori parameters are developed by analyzing the solar calibration measurement. This correction provides a significant improvement to the O2 A band retrieval. Accordingly, we extend the previous TanSat single CO2 weak band retrieval to a combined O2 A and CO2 weak band retrieval. A Genetic Algorithm (GA) has been applied to determine the threshold values of post-screening filters. In total, 18.3% of the retrieved data is identified as high quality compared to the original measurements. The same quality control parameters have been used in a footprint independent multiple linear regression bias correction due to the strong correlation with the XCO2 retrieval error. Twenty sites of the Total Column Carbon Observing Network (TCCON) have been selected to validate our new approach for the TanSat XCO2 retrieval. We show that our new approach produces a significant improvement on the XCO2 retrieval accuracy and precision when compared to TCCON with an average bias and RMSE of -0.08 ppm and 1.47 ppm, respectively. The methods used in this study can help to improve the XCO2 retrieval from TanSat and subsequently the Level-2 data production, and hence will be applied in the TanSat operational XCO2 processing.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The protein kynureninase (KYNU) has recently been reported to participate in the pathological processes of various diseases. AIM To explore the expression and the biological function of KYNU in cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC). METHODS Expression of KYNU in cSCC cell lines and tissues was firstly evaluated based on the Gene Expression Omnibus and the Oncomine databases. Quantitative reverse transcription-PCR was performed to determine the mRNA expression of KYNU in cSCC cell lines. Small interfering RNA (siRNA) was used for silencing KYNU. The effect of KYNU on the growth and motility of cSCC cells was determined by cell counting kit-8, wound-healing and Transwell assays, and western blotting was used to determine the protein expression of KYNU, AKT, phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K), phosphorylated (p)-AKT and p-PI3K. RESULTS KYNU was significantly upregulated in cSCC tissues and cell lines. Knockdown of KYNU using siRNA noticeably suppressed the proliferation, migration and invasion ability of SCL-1 cells (P < 0.01). Western blotting revealed that phosphorylation of AKT and PI3K was markedly inhibited after silencing KYNU. The ratios of p-AKT/AKT and p-PI3K/PI3K were significantly decreased in the si-KYNU group compared with the control group. CONCLUSION Depletion of KYNU could inhibit the growth of cSCC cells, possibly through modulating PI3K/AKT pathway. These data indicate that KYNU takes a key part in the malignant progression of cSCC, and could be considered as a promising therapeutic target for cSCC treatment.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Measurement-based care (MBC) is a popular strategy of clinical management for patients with major depressive disorder (MDD). The consistency of self-report and clinical measurements is of importance, but whether individual symptom severity is in agreement for both self-report and clinician rating in MDD has not been comprehensively tested. This study aimed to test whether individual symptom severity of MDD was in agreement between self-report and clinician rating, and to explore factors affecting the agreement. METHODS In the National Survey on Symptomatology of Depression (NSSD) of China, 3275 patients with a major depressive episode were evaluated by both self-report and a clinician-rated version of 62 questions. RESULTS On average, 59% of all patients reached absolute agreement with their research clinicians. Among all questions, 73% returned with moderate positive strength of correlation, followed by 27% with low positive correlation. In 77% of the total questions, there was a tendency to rate higher in the self-report version compared with the clinician-rated version. After classifying the symptoms by six major domains, it was found that patients and clinicians showed more consistent answers in history and somatic questions (81% and 65% reached agreement), and that there were more differences in mood, energy, and anxiety questions (up to 56% in full agreement). "Outpatient", "high financial status", "poor working condition", and "high education level" were found to be significant positive predictors for patients rating higher than clinicians or patients and clinicians reaching agreement as opposed to clinicians rating higher than patients. LIMITATIONS The cross-sectional nature of our study undermines the interpretation of the results across the MDD treatment course. CONCLUSIONS It is sufficient to use the self-report version of a questionnaire to screen, monitor, and detect remission for MDD symptoms. Complete assessment of depression severity should take both clinician-rated scales and self-reported measures into consideration. Factors other than source of admission, financial status, working condition, and education level should be further investigated for the discrepancy between self-report and clinician rating.

Abstract
The diversity and complexity of the cancer transcriptome may contain transcripts unique to the tumor environment. Here, we report a LIN28B variant, LIN28B-TST, which is specifically expressed in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and many other cancer types. Expression of LIN28B-TST is associated with significantly poor prognosis in HCC patients. LIN28B-TST initiates from a de novo alternative transcription initiation site that harbors a strong promoter regulated by NFYA but not c-Myc. Demethylation of the LIN28B-TST promoter might be a prerequisite for its transcription and transcriptional regulation. LIN28B-TST encodes a protein isoform with additional N-terminal amino acids and is critical for cancer cell proliferation and tumorigenesis. Our findings reveal a mechanism of LIN28B activation in cancer and the potential utility of LIN28B-TST for clinical purposes.

Abstract
Objective: To access the influence of voice disorders on children's voice-related quality of life through the parental version of pediatric voice handicap index (pVHI). Methods: From April 2017 to March 2018, a total of 192 children with voice disorders (dysphonic group) and 111 children without voice disorders (control group) were enrolled in this work. Parents of children in both groups were asked for fill out the questionnaire containing the parental version of pVHI and the data of non-normal distribution were analyzed by Mann-Whitney U test. Spearman test was used for correlation analysis. Results: (1)Vocal cord nodule was the most common voice disorder in children, and boys were more susceptible to voice disorder than girls in this study (70.3%(135/192) vs 29.7%(57/192)). (2)The most common voice abuse or misuse habit was "Shouting loudly". (3)In dysphonic group, the scores of function, physiology, emotion and total were higher than those in control group (all P<0.05). (4)In dysphonic group, there was a weak correlation between the parents' overall evaluation of the children's voice status and the three dimensions of the parental version of pVHI (function: r=0.339, physiology: r=0.334, emotion: r=0.208, all P<0.001). Conclusions: Voice disorders can cause a negative impact on children's quality of life. Parental version of pVHI can be used to assess the voice-related quality of life in children with voice disorders.

Abstract
Vocal cord leukoplakia is a clinical diagnosis defined as a whitish patch or a plaque on a mucosal surface. Because of the diversity of histopathological types, the complexity and unpredictability risks for malignant transformation, there are still many controversies about its histopathological classification, diagnosis and treatment. The aim of this article is to review the epidemiology, etiology, pathological classification, diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of vocal cord leukoplakia.

Abstract
Objective: To investigate the clinical and pathological features and prognosis of white lesion of vocal cord. Methods: One hundred and fifty-four cases of white lesion of vocal cord from January 2009 to February 2016 were retrospectively analysed. All the patients had undergone the resection of white lesion of vocal cord resection through retaining laryngoscope under general anesthesia with the specimens pathologically examined. Results: There were 148 males and 6 females in this study. The ages ranged from 36 to 83 years, and the median age was 54.5.There were 103(66.88%) long-term smokers, and 64(41.56%) long-term drinkers. Postoperative pathology showed that chronic mucosal inflammation in 19 cases (12.34%), squamous epithelial hyperplasia in 56 cases(36.36%), mild dysplasia in 25 cases(16.23%), moderate dysplasia in 34 cases(22.08%), severe dysplasia in 12 cases(7.79%), carcinoma in situ in 6 cases(3.90%), and invasive carcinoma in 2 cases(1.30%). The recurrence rate and canceration rate of chronic mucosal inflammation were 0. The recurrence rate of squamous epithelial hyperplasia was 10.71%, the canceration rate was 0.The recurrence rate of mild dysplasia was 8.00%, the canceration rate was 0. The recurrence rate of moderate dysplasia was 20.59%, the canceration rate was 8.82%. The recurrence rate of severe dysplasia was 25.00%, the canceration rate was 16.67%. Conclusions: White lesion of vocal cord is a predominantly male disease. Long-term smokering and drinking are one of common causes. The final diagnosis of white lesion of vocal cord relies on the pathology. Closed observation is necessary for theses dysplasia cases. The majority of which are benign, the operation effect is good.

Abstract
Circular RNA from backspliced exons (or exonic circular RNA, circRNA) is a type of covalently closed non-colinear RNA that was recently rediscovered in eukaryotes. Although circRNAs are often expressed at low levels, emerging evidence indicates that many circRNAs are linked to physiological development and various diseases. Notably, circRNAs have been shown to serve as oncogenic stimuli or tumor suppressors in cancer. circRNAs may regulate gene expression through different mechanisms. In addition, circRNAs have been shown to be useful as biomarkers of diseases due to their stability, specific expression and relation to diseases both in cells and in extracellular fluid. This review summarizes current knowledge of human circRNAs and discusses the emerging role and clinical implication of these multifarious transcripts.

Abstract
Circular RNAs (circRNAs) represent a novel class of widespread non-coding RNAs in eukaryotes. They are unusually stable RNA molecules with cell type-specific expression patterns, and are predominantly present in the cytoplasm. We recently demonstrated the existence of abundant circRNAs in exosomes and suggest a potential application of exosomal circRNAs for cancer detection.

Abstract
Ketamine, a dissociative anesthetic most commonly used in many pediatric procedures, has been reported in many animal studies to cause widespread neuroapoptosis in the neonatal brain after exposure in high doses and/or for a prolonged period. This neurodegenerative change occurs most severely in the forebrain including the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) that is an important brain structure for mediating a variety of cognitive functions. However, it is still unknown whether such apoptotic neurodegeneration early in life would subsequently impair the synaptic plasticity of the ACC later in life. In this study, we performed whole-cell patch-clamp recordings from the ACC brain slices of young adult rats to examine any alterations in long-term synaptic plasticity caused by neonatal ketamine exposure. Ketamine was administered at postnatal day 4-7 (subcutaneous injections, 20mg/kg given six times, once every 2h). At 3-4weeks of age, long-term potentiation (LTP) was induced and recorded by monitoring excitatory postsynaptic currents from ACC slices. We found that the induction of LTP in the ACC was significantly reduced when compared to the control group. The LTP impairment was accompanied by an increase in the α-amino-3-hydroxy-5-methyl-4-isoxazolepropionic acid receptor-mediated excitatory synaptic transmission and a decrease in GABA inhibitory synaptic transmission in neurons of the ACC. Thus, our present findings show that neonatal ketamine exposure causes a significant LTP impairment in the ACC. We suggest that the imbalanced synaptic transmission is likely to contribute to ketamine-induced LTP impairment in the ACC.
