Abstract
PURPOSE Uveitis-Glaucoma-Hyphema (UGH) syndrome results from contact between the intraocular lens (IOL) and the iris or ciliary body, leading to uveal structure erosion and blood-aqueous barrier breakdown. Treatment involves various drugs, with IOL removal often being necessary. Diagnosis relies on clinical signs, but imaging techniques like ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM) or anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT) are crucial. AS-OCT accurately depicts IOL position and potential contact, emerging as a primary alternative to UBM in the diagnosis. Our study aimed to correlate AS-OCT findings with clinically detectable iris atrophy in pseudophakic patients with IOL-iris chafing and UGH syndrome. METHODS The study retrospectively analyzed patients diagnosed with UGH syndrome presenting at the Ocular Immunology Unit of Reggio Emilia, Italy, from January 2019 to August 2023. Patients' data were collected. Ophthalmological exams and imaging were performed. The peephole sign in AS-OCT images was evaluated. Statistical analyses were conducted, with a significance level of p ≤ 0.05. RESULTS The study reviewed 22 eyes of 22 patients with UGH syndrome. Four eyes were excluded, leaving 18 patients (8 females, 10 males). Common misdiagnoses included idiopathic anterior uveitis (55.5%) and herpetic anterior uveitis (16.7%). All patients had iris transillumination defects, mostly focal (77.8%). AS-OCT revealed IOL chafing in all the eyes, with peephole sign correlation. More peephole signs occurred with IOL in the sulcus (p-value = 0.08). CONCLUSION The study recommends AS-OCT for UGH syndrome confirmation and UBM when IOL-iris chafing is not observed on AS-OCT scans.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Tetranychus urticae Koch, is a polyphagous and damaging pest, presenting several resistant populations worldwide. Among new and more environmentally friendly control tools, botanical pesticides represent a valuable alternative to synthetic ones within integrated pest management strategies. Accordingly, we investigated the lethal and sublethal effects of carlina oxide isolated from Carlina acaulis (Asteraceae) roots on T. urticae and its natural enemy, the predatory mite, Neoseiulus californicus (McGregor). RESULTS Carlina oxide (98.7% pure compound) was used for acaricidal tests on eggs, nymphs, and adult females of T. urticae (concentrations of 312.5, 625, 1250, 2500 and 5000 μL L-1 ), and eggs and females of N. californicus (1250 and 5000 μL L-1 on eggs and females, respectively). Behavioral two-choice tests were also conducted on phytoseiid females. Carlina oxide toxicity was higher on T. urticae females than nymphs (median lethal dose 1145 and 1825 μL L-1 , respectively), whereas egg mortality and mean hatching time were significantly affected by all tested concentrations. A decreasing daily oviposition rate for T. urticae was recorded with concentrations ranging from 625 to 5000 μL L-1 , whereas negative effects on the population growth rate were recorded only with the three higher concentrations (1250, 2500 and 5000 μL L-1 ). No toxic effect on N. californicus females was found, but a strong repellent activity lasting for 48 h from application was recorded. CONCLUSION Carlina oxide reduced longevity and fecundity of T. urticae adults, but not of N. californicus. This selective property allows us to propose it as a novel active ingredient of ecofriendly acaricides for T. urticae management. © 2023 The Authors. Abstract
Uveitis is uncommon in children and its diagnosis and treatment are challenging. Little is known of the epidemiology of pediatric uveitis. Indeed, population-based studies in the literature are rare. However, there are many tertiary referral center reports that describe the patterns of uveitis in childhood, although few are from developed countries, and their comparison presents some issues. Anterior uveitis is the most frequent entity worldwide, especially in Western countries, where juvenile idiopathic arthritis is diffuse. Most cases of intermediate uveitis do not show any association with infectious or noninfectious systemic diseases. In low- and middle-income countries, posterior uveitis and panuveitis are prevalent due to the higher rates of infectious etiologies and systemic diseases such as Behçet disease and Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada disease. In recent decades, idiopathic uveitis rate has decreased thanks to diagnostic improvements.

Abstract
The Oriental hornet (Vespa orientalis) is one of the major predators of honey bees. It has been demonstrated that adults of V. orientalis can harbor honey bee viruses, however the transmission route of infection is still not clear. The aim of this study was to study the possible presence of honey bee viruses in V. orientalis larvae and honey bees collected from the same apiary. Therefore, 29 samples of V. orientalis larvae and 2 pools of honey bee (Apis mellifera). samples were analyzed by multiplex PCR to detect the presence of six honeybee viruses: Acute Bee Paralysis Virus (ABPV), Black Queen Cell Virus (BQCV), Chronic Bee Paralysis Virus (CBPV), Deformed Wing Virus (DWV), Kashmir Bee Virus (KBV) and Sac Brood Virus (SBV). Biomolecular analysis of V. orientalis larvae revealed that DWV was present in 24/29 samples, SBV in 10/29, BQCV in 7/29 samples and ABPV in 5/29 samples, while no sample was found positive for CBPV or KBV. From biomolecular analysis of honey bee samples DWV was the most detected virus, followed by SBV, BQCV, ABPV. No honey bee sample was found positive for CBPV or KBV. Considering the overlapping of positivities between V.orientalis larvae and honey bee samples, and that V.orientalis larvae are fed insect proteins, preferably honey bees, we can suggest the acquisition of viral particles through the ingestion of infected bees. However, future studies are needed to confirm this hypothesis and rule out any other source of infection.
