Abstract
Few population-based studies have looked at the risk of uveitis among syphilis patients. Our study addresses the knowledge gap by reporting on uveitis risk in syphilis patients through a retrospective cohort study. The Taiwan National Health Insurance database was used for this study, covering the period from January 1st, 2009, to December 31st, 2020. We created a 1:4 propensity score matched cohort between the syphilis patients and controls, which accounted for gender, age, and comorbidities. The primary endpoint was the incidence of newly recorded uveitis. The assessment of uveitis risk in syphilis patients included the use of the Kaplan-Meier method and multivariate Cox proportional hazard model. A total of 31,597 syphilis patients and 126,379 matched comparisons were recruited. The uveitis incidence rate from our syphilis patients was 1.25 per 1000 person-years. The uveitis incidence rate from our non-syphilis group was 0.8 per 1000 person-years. After matching, the syphilis group was found to have a higher risk of developing uveitis (adjusted hazard ratio (aHR) [95% CI]: 1.57 [1.36-1.81], P < .001). Among males and individuals aged 20-34 years, subgroup analysis showed an increased risk of uveitis in the presence of syphilis infection. The Kaplan-Meier survival curve showed a significant difference in uveitis incidence between syphilis and non-syphilis groups (log-rank test P < .001). In summary, our study revealed that Taiwanese syphilis patients were at a higher risk of developing uveitis. These results highlight the need for regular ocular monitoring and screening in individuals with syphilis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This study investigates the incidence of ocular involvement in Kawasaki disease (KD) and evaluates the relationship between ocular manifestations, laboratory findings, echocardiographic findings, and intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) resistance. METHODS We conducted a cross-sectional study with 58 KD patients from June 2021 to March 2023. For all patients, a complete ophthalmologic examination and echocardiography were performed in the acute phase before starting the treatment. We analyzed the age, sex, mean of white blood cell (WBC) count, platelet count, erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), C-reactive protein (CRP), levels of alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST), echocardiographic findings and IVIG responses for all patients and compared the group with ocular involvement with the group without involvement. RESULTS The incidence of bilateral acute conjunctivitis was 70.7%, while that of acute uveitis was 30%. Patients with uveitis had significantly higher rates of Coronary artery dilatation and IVIG resistance, as well as higher mean levels of WBC, platelet, and CRP compared to those without uveitis. (P < 0.05). Additionally, the age of patients with uveitis involvement was lower than those without involvement. No significant relationships existed between ESR, AST, or ALT values and uveitis (P > 0.05). Furthermore, no significant correlations existed between any examined items and acute bilateral conjunctivitis. CONCLUSION Uveitis in KD is significantly associated with coronary artery dilatation, IVIG resistance, higher WBC count, platelet count, and CRP level.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Anterior uveitis is a common extra-articular manifestation of axial spondyloarthritis (AxSpA). We set to evaluate the risk of anterior uveitis (AU) with biologics and synthetic disease-modifying drugs in AxSpA. METHODS We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to identify phase II/III double-blinded randomized controlled trials of anti-tumor necrosis factor (TNF) monoclonal antibodies (mAb), anti-interleukin-17 (anti-IL-17), and Janus kinase inhibitors (JAKi) in AxSpA. Patient-exposure years (PEY) were calculated using the per-protocol approach. Incidence rate (IR) of AU/100 person-years were calculated by treatment group using the random effects approach. Network meta-analysis (NMA) was used to estimate risk of AU in treatment groups, expressed as IR ratios (IRRs). Bias was assessed using the Cochrane Risk of Bias-2 tool. RESULTS Forty-four trials were included: 17 anti-TNF mAb (1,004 PEY), 9 etanercept (180 PEY), 13 anti-IL-17 (1,834 PEY), and 6 JAKi (331 PEY). The IR of AU were as follows for anti-TNF mAb: 4.1, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0-8.5; etanercept: 5.4, 95% CI 0-16.0; anti-IL-17: 2.8, 95% CI 1.6-4.1; JAKi: 1.5, 95% CI 0.0-3.0; and placebo: 10.8, 95% CI 7.4-14.1. In NMA, IRRs of treatments compared with placebo were as follows for anti-TNF mAb: 0.32, 95% CI 0.10-1.04; etanercept 0.42, 95% CI 0.08-2.38; anti-IL-17: 0.43, 95% CI 0.19-0.98; and JAKi: 0.32, 95% CI 0.06-1.67. Comparisons between anti-TNF mAb, anti-IL-17, and JAKi did not demonstrate any significant difference in AU risk. Using the surface under the cumulative ranking curve approach to rank AU risk, anti-TNF mAbs were associated with the lowest risk followed by JAKi, anti-IL-17, and etanercept. All treatments were ranked superior to placebo. CONCLUSION Anti-TNF mAbs, JAKi, and anti-IL-17 appear protective against AU events in individuals with AxSpA, with no significant differences in risk of AU between treatments.

Abstract
The magnitude of the effect of human T-lymphotropic virus 1 (HTLV-1) infection on uveitis remains unclear. We conducted a cross-sectional study in a highly endemic area of HTLV-1 in Japan. The study included 4265 residents (men, 39.2%), mostly middle-aged and older individuals with a mean age of 69.9 years, who participated in our surveys between April 2016 and September 2022. We identified HTLV-1 carriers by screening using chemiluminescent enzyme immunoassays and confirmatory tests, and the proportion of carriers was 16.1%. Participants with uveitis were determined from the medical records of all hospitals and clinics where certified ophthalmologists practiced. We conducted logistic regression analyses in an age- and sex-adjusted model to compute the odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) of uveitis according to HTLV-1 infection status. Thirty-two (0.8%) participants had uveitis. For HTLV-1 carriers, the age- and sex-adjusted OR (95% CI) of uveitis was 3.27 (1.57-6.72) compared with noncarriers. In conclusion, HTLV-1 infection was associated with a higher risk of uveitis among mostly middle-aged and older Japanese residents in a highly endemic HTLV-1 area. Our findings suggest that physicians who treat HTLV-1 carriers should assess ocular symptoms, and those who diagnose patients with uveitis should consider HTLV-1 infection.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Clinical presentation and prevalence of organ involvement is highly variable in sarcoidosis and depends on ethnic, genetic and geographical factors. These data are not extensively studied in a Dutch population. AIM To determine the prevalence of organ involvement and the indication for systemic immunosuppressive therapy in newly diagnosed sarcoidosis patients in the Netherlands. METHODS Two large Dutch teaching hospitals participated in this prospective cohort study. All adult patients with newly diagnosed sarcoidosis were prospectively included and a standardized work-up was performed. Organ involvement was defined using the WASOG instrument. RESULTS Between 2015 and 2020, a total of 330 patients were included, 55% were male, mean age was 46 (SD 14) years. Most of them were white (76%). Pulmonary involvement including thoracic lymph node enlargement was present in 316 patients (96%). Pulmonary parenchymal disease was present in 156 patients (47%). Ten patients (3%) had radiological signs of pulmonary fibrosis. Cutaneous sarcoidosis was present in 74 patients (23%). Routine ophthalmological screening revealed uveitis in 29 patients (12%, n = 256)). Cardiac and neurosarcoidosis were diagnosed in respectively five (2%) and six patients (2%). Renal involvement was observed in 11 (3%) patients. Hypercalcaemia and hypercalciuria were observed in 29 (10%) and 48 (26%, n = 182) patients, respectively. Hepatic involvement was found in 6 patients (2%). In 30% of the patients, systemic immunosuppressive treatment was started at diagnosis. CONCLUSIONS High-risk organ involvement in sarcoidosis is uncommon at diagnosis. Indication for systemic immunosuppressive therapy was present in a minority of patients.

Abstract
Infectious pediatric uveitis is a rare disease that can cause severe ocular damage if not detected rapidly and treated properly. Additionally, early identification of an infection can protect the child from life-threatening systemic infection. Infectious uveitis can be congenital or acquired and may manifest as a primary ocular infection or as a reactivation. Nevertheless, publications on infectious paediatric uveitis are usually limited to a small number of patients or a case report. So far, most studies on uveitis in children have focused primarily on noninfectious uveitis, and a systematic study on infectious uveitis is lacking. In this review, we summarize the literature on infectious uveitis in pediatric populations and report on the epidemiology, pathophysiology, clinical signs, diagnostic tests, and treatment. We will describe the different possible pathogens causing uveitis in childhood by microbiological group (i.e. parasites, viruses, bacteria, and fungi). We aim to contribute to early diagnosis and management of infectious pediatric uveitis, which in turn might improve not only visual outcome, but also the general health outcome.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The aim of this study was to report the clinical profile of new-onset and relapse of uveitis following rapid spreading of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection due to change of anti-COVID-19 policies in China and investigate potential risk factors for inflammation relapse. METHODS In this retrospective case-control study, patients with new-onset or a history of uveitis between December 23, 2022, and February 28, 2023, were included to assess the influence of COVID-19 infection on uveitis. Detailed information on demographic data, clinical characteristics, treatment measures, treatment response, and ocular inflammatory status before and after COVID-19 infection was collected. RESULTS This study included 349 patients with a history of uveitis. The uveitis relapse rate was higher (28.8%, n = 288) in those with COVID-19 infection than in patients without COVID-19 infection (14.8%, n = 61) (P = 0.024). Among the relapse cases, 50.8% experienced a relapse of anterior uveitis, while 49.2% had a relapse of uveitis involving the posterior segment. Multivariable regression analysis indicated a positive correlation between disease duration and uveitis relapse, while the last relapse exceeding one year before COVID-19 infection and the use of methotrexate during COVID-19 infection were negatively correlated with relapse of uveitis. Thirteen patients who developed new-onset uveitis following COVID-19 infection were included; among them, three (23.1%) had anterior uveitis and 10 (76.9%) had uveitis affecting the posterior segment. Regarding cases involving the posterior segment, four patients (30.8%) were diagnosed with Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada disease. CONCLUSIONS COVID-19 infection increases the rate of uveitis relapse. Long disease duration is a risk factor, while time since the last relapse more than 1 year and methotrexate use are protective factors against uveitis relapse.

Abstract
BACKGROUND To determine the prevalence, clinical characteristics, and independent predictors of uveitic macular edema (UME) in patients with intermediate, posterior and panuveitis. METHODS We retrospectively reviewed the records of patients with intermediate, posterior, and panuveitis who underwent macular assessment using optical coherence tomography between January 2015 and February 2020. The prevalence of UME and clinical characteristics of the patients were described. Predictors of UME were identified using multivariate regression analysis. RESULTS A total of 349 patients were included. The mean age was 41 years, female: male ratio was 1.3:1. The prevalence of UME was 51.9%. UME was found in 33.9%, 56.9%, and 54.1% of the intermediate, posterior, and panuveitis cases, respectively. Among patients with UME, 47% had infectious uveitis, 32.6% had idiopathic uveitis, and 20.4% had immune-mediated uveitis. Diffuse macular edema was the most frequently observed pattern (36.5%). Multivariate analysis showed that factors independently associated with UME included age at uveitis onset (adjusted odds ratio [aOR] 1.01, 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.00-1.03, P = 0.036), PU and panuveitis compared with intermediate uveitis (aOR 2.09, 95% CI 1.14-3.86, P = 0.018), and infectious uveitis compared with noninfectious uveitis (aOR 2.13, 95% CI 1.34-3.37, P = 0.001). CONCLUSIONS Increasing age at uveitis onset, posterior/panuveitis, and infectious etiology are predictive factors for UME in patients with intermediate, posterior and panuveitis.

Abstract
PURPOSE To assess the quality of life in patients diagnosed as having tuberculous uveitis and its association with sociodemographic, clinical, and psychosocial aspects. METHOD By conducting standardized interviews, clinical and demographic data were collected using a measure developed in this study. This measure was applied in addition to other measures, namely SF-12, Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale, and NEI-VFQ-39, which were used to assess health-related quality of life, anxiety and depression symptoms, and visual functioning. RESULTS The study included 34 patients [mean age: 46.5 ± 15.1 years, female patients: 21 (61.8%)]. The mean of the VFQ-39 score was 74.5 ± 16.6 and that of SF-12 physical and mental component scores were 45.8 ± 10.1 and 51.6 ± 7.5, respectively, for the health-related quality of life. Anxiety symptoms were the most prevalent compared with depression symptoms and were found in 35.3% of the participants. CONCLUSION Tuberculous uveitis affects several scales of quality of life, thereby affecting a population economically active with a social, psychological, and economic burden.

Abstract
The association between uveitis and spondyloarthropathy (SpA)-related conditions is well-established. However, evidence describing the link between uveitis and psoriasis, and psoriasis without concomitant SpA-related conditions is scarce and conflicting. This large-scale population-based study sought to describe the prevalence and features of uveitis among psoriasis patients in Israel as well as investigating the risk for uveitis in different subgroups of psoriasis patients compared to the general population. We conducted a retrospective study utilizing the electronic database of the Meuhedet Health Maintenance Organization. The study included all patients diagnosed with psoriasis between 2000 and 2020, each patient was matched with four controls based on age, sex, place of residence, and index date. Logistic regression models were employed to assess the association between psoriasis and uveitis while adjusting for the presence of SpA-related conditions. A total of 61 003 psoriasis patients and 244 012 matched controls were included. The prevalence of uveitis was 1.3% versus 1.1% respectively (OR 1.12; 95% CI 1.10-1.30; p < 0.001). When adjusting to psoriasis severity, concurrent SpA, and psoriasis treatment no significant association was found. The rates of uveitis among psoriasis patients with concurrent SpA-related conditions was 3.2% compared to 1.4% in controls without psoriasis or SpA (OR 2.38; 95% CI 2.00-2.83; p < 0.001), while in psoriasis patients without SpA, the rate of uveitis was 1.0% and was similar to controls. Although crude rates of uveitis were higher in patients with severe psoriasis compared to mild psoriasis (2.1% vs. 1.1%), after adjustment, no significant association compared to controls was found in either group. Our findings suggest that the positive association between psoriasis and uveitis is primarily mediated by the coexistence of other SpA-related conditions. These findings imply the presence of a shared pathogenetic mechanism and set the direction for a phenotypic-targeted screening strategy.

Abstract
IMPORTANCE Idiopathic uveitis makes up around 50% of non-infectious uveitis but the clinical characteristics in children are poorly understood. OBJECTIVE To report the demographic, clinical characteristics, and outcomes of children with idiopathic non-infectious uveitis (iNIU) in a multicentric retrospective study. RESULTS There were 126 (61 female) children with iNIU. The median age at diagnosis was 9.3 years (3-16 years) . Uveitis was bilateral in 106 patients and anterior in 68.At onset,impaired visual acuity and blindness in the worse eye were reported, in 24.4% and 15.1% patients but at 3 years of follow-up, there was a significant improvement in visual acuity (mean 0.11 SD ±0.50 vs 0.42 SD ± 0.59 p < .001). CONCLUSIONS AND RELEVANCE There is a high rate of visual impairment at presentation in children with idiopathic uveitis. The majority of patients have a significant improvement in vision, but 1 in 6 had impaired vision or blindness in their worse eye at 3 years.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Ocular involvement is common in sarcoidosis. Our study aimed to evaluate the role of screening for uveitis in subjects with sarcoidosis. METHODS Retrospective case series of 88 subjects with a pre-existing diagnosis of sarcoidosis, with no previous diagnosis of uveitis, reviewed by Ophthalmology at Auckland District Health Board between January 2016 and May 2022. RESULTS Among those undergoing a screening examination, uveitis was observed in 27.8% (15 out of 54 subjects). In those presenting with acute eye symptoms, uveitis was observed in 94.1% (32 out of 34 subjects). Sarcoid uveitis was diagnosed in a total of 50 out of 88 subjects (56.8%). 45 subjects required ocular treatment. Sarcoid uveitis was observed in 6 out of 27 subjects (22.2%) who were entirely asymptomatic at screening. On multivariate analysis, blurring of vision (OR 26.2 p < 0.001), eye pain (OR 7.3 p = 0.014) and respiratory disease (OR 7.1 p = 0.044) were associated with increased risk of sarcoid uveitis. In the 41 subjects with no uveitis at initial examination, 3 subjects (7.3%) subsequently developed uveitis. CONCLUSION Our study highlights the importance of ophthalmic screening of all patients with systemic sarcoidosis, even in asymptomatic patients. With a high correlation of ocular symptoms in diagnosis of sarcoid uveitis, ophthalmologists should educate patients to look out for the development of symptoms of ocular inflammation, and clinicians who continue follow up for systemic sarcoidosis should remind patients to watch carefully for these symptoms to facilitate timely diagnosis and intervention.

Abstract
Uveitis is a heterogeneous collection of infrequent diseases, which poses significant challenges to cost-effective research in the field. Medical registries are being increasingly recognized as crucial tools to provide high-quality data, thus enabling prospective clinical research. This paper describes the design and technical structure development of an innovative countrywide electronic medical record for uveitis, Uveite.pt, and gives an overview of the cohort registered since its foundation, March 2020.Uveite.pt is an electronic medical record platform developed by the Portuguese Ocular Inflammation Group (POIG), a scientific committee of the Portuguese Ophthalmology Society. This is a nationwide customized web-based platform for uveitis patients useful for both clinical practice and real-world-based research, working as a central repository and reporting tool for uveitis. This paper describes the technical principles, the design and the development of a web-based interoperable registry for uveitis in Portugal and provides an overview of more than 400 patients registered in the first 18 months since inception.In infrequent diseases, the existence of registries enables to gather evidence and increase research possibilities to clinicians. The adoption of this platform enables standardization and improvement of clinical practice in uveitis. It is useful to apprehend the repercussion of medical and surgical treatments in uveitis and scleritis, supporting clinicians in the strict monitoring of drug adverse reactions and surgical outcomes.

Abstract
PURPOSE To provide an overview on global uveitis research in the last decade in terms of countries/regions, organizations, scholars, journals, trending topics, and fundings. METHODS This cross-sectional bibliometric analysis yielded 10656 uveitis publications in English for subsequent bibliometric analysis. RESULTS In terms of the number of publications, the leading country/region was the USA (3007). The most productive organization was the University College London (420). The most productive research team was Professor Yang's group (146). A higher h-index was noted in University College London (48). Professor Rosenbaum was the first h-index holder (32). Keywords of interest included topics such as biologics, COVID and OCT. Publications by Ocular Immunology and Inflammation (968) ranked the first position. CONCLUSIONS The USA is the leading force in uveitis study. Asian countries/regions, such as China (mainland) and India, are exerting a substantial role worldwide. Trendy topics cover COVID-19, OCTA.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To describe the clinical features of patients diagnosed with uveitic glaucoma (UG) and ocular hypertension secondary to uveitis (OHT-SU). METHODS A multicentric cross-sectional study using medical records of patients with uveitis between 2013 and 2021. Uveitis and glaucoma specialists examined all patients. Variables were analyzed using the chi-square or Fisher's exact test for categorical variables. Additionally, t test, Mann-Whitney, and Kruskal-Wallis variance analysis were used for continuous variables. Finally, a Kaplan-Meier survival analysis for UG and OHT-SU development over time was done. RESULTS Of the 660 clinical records reviewed of patients with uveitis, 191 (28.9%) had OHT-SU in at least one visit, and 108 (16.4%) of them developed UG. In all ages, females were more affected than males. Anterior uveitis was the main anatomic localisation, and non-granulomatous, recurrent, and inactive uveitis were the most frequent clinical features. The mean final visual acuity was 0.3 (0.0-1.0) LogMAR. Also, 95.8% of the patients had additional sequelae related to uveitis regardless of UG and OHT-SU. Interestingly, males had earlier affection, with statistical significance in OHT for adults (P = 0.036) and UG for children (P = 0.04). Of all patients, 81.1% received topical hypotensive treatment and 29.8% required a surgical procedure. CONCLUSIONS UG and OHT-SU are common complications of uveitis in the Colombian population. These sight-threatening conditions were more common and appeared sooner in men at any age. Our results suggest that earlier and more aggressive treatment with topical hypotensive agents could positively influence the visual outcomes and the requirement of surgical procedures.

Abstract
Objectives To report the ocular findings, laboratory results, and management of patients with tubulointerstitial nephritis and uveitis syndrome (TINU), whose numbers increased during the 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. Materials and Methods Demographic characteristics, ophthalmic examination findings, laboratory results including polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), serum SARS-CoV-2 immunoglobulin G (IgG) antibody, and treatment of patients diagnosed with TINU between March 2020 and March 2022 were evaluated retrospectively. Results The study included 19 eyes of 10 patients (6 female/4 male). The mean age was 13.5±2.4 years (range: 8-16 years). The mean follow-up duration was 13.5±6.1 months (range: 6-24 months). All patients presented with anterior uveitis. Anterior uveitis was bilateral in 9 patients (90%) and unilateral in 1 patient (10%). Posterior segment findings were normal in 8 patients (80%), and bilateral optic disc edema was observed in only 2 patients (20%). None of the patients had a previous SARS-CoV-2 infection and/or vaccination history. The SARS-CoV-2 PCR test was negative in all patients at presentation. The SARS-CoV-2 IgG antibody test was reactive in 7 patients (70%). Recurrent uveitis developed in 8 patients (80%) during follow-up. Systemic immunomodulatory therapy was required for the control of ocular inflammation in 7 patients (70%) with severe uveitis flare-ups. Conclusion TINU is a multisystemic autoimmune disease, especially in response to environmental triggering factors such as viral infections. Although TINU is a rare disease, the number of cases increased during the COVID-19 pandemic. SARS-CoV-2 antibodies were detected at a significant rate of 70% in these patients, who did not have a history of SARS-CoV-2 infection and vaccination. Previous asymptomatic SARS-CoV-2 infection in children may be a triggering factor in the development of TINU.

Abstract
PURPOSE To investigate the incidence and risk of noninfectious uveitis (NIU) following COVID-19 vaccination compared with an unvaccinated, uninfected control group. DESIGN Retrospective population-based cohort study. METHODS We included 5,185,153 individuals who received the first vaccine dose in the exposed group and 2,680,164 individuals in the unexposed, uninfected control group. The study observed for 180 days from their index date. Cumulative incidence and risk of NIU following COVID-19 vaccination, and attributable risk factors were assessed. RESULTS Multivariable analysis showed elevated risk of nonanterior NIU within 60 days (hazard ratio [HR] 1.27 [95% confidence interval {CI} 1.03-1.55] and 61-180 days (HR 1.39 [95% CI 1.20-1.62]). Subgroup analysis highlighted an increased risk in females for early and delayed nonanterior uveitis (HR 1.44 [95% CI 1.08-1.92]; HR 1.78 [95% CI 1.43-2.20], respectively). Regardless of the location and onset timing of uveitis, a history of NIU was identified as the most significant risk factor, with a high hazard ratio ranging from 100 to 200. CONCLUSIONS COVID-19 vaccination may modestly increase the risk of nonanterior uveitis especially in females. Despite adjustments, bias may persist in the exposed group, owing to significant differences between unexposed and exposed groups and low incidence of nonanterior uveitis in the unexposed group. Future research should aim to refine these findings by assessing uveitis risk in prior NIU patients and by enlarging the sample size or cohort matching.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Vitamin D plays a critical role in immunomodulation, and its deficiency is implicated in the pathogenesis of several autoimmune diseases. Nevertheless, its relationship with non-infectious uveitis (NIU), an inflammatory ocular disorder, remains inconclusive. METHODS A systematic search was conducted in three databases from database inception until May 8, 2023, to investigate the potential relationship between vitamin D deficiency and NIU. We included observational studies reporting the measurement of vitamin D levels in patients with NIU and healthy controls without restriction of language or date of publication. Three pairs of authors independently screened the title and abstracts for potential eligibility and then in full text. A third author resolved disagreements. Three pairs of independent reviewers abstracted the data from the fully reviewed records and evaluated the risk of bias. We followed The MOOSE and PRISMA guidelines. Random effects meta-analyses were used for primary analysis. Studies not included in the meta-analysis were summarized descriptively. This review was registered in PROSPERO: CRD42022308105. FINDINGS Of 933 records screened, 11 studies were included, and five were meta-analyzed, encompassing 354 cases and 5728 controls (mean participant age ranging from 7.1 to 58.9 years). Patients with vitamin D deficiency exhibited an Odds Ratio of 2.04 (95% CI = 1.55-2.68, P < 0.00001) for developing NIU compared to controls. Overall, potential sources of bias were low across most studies. INTERPRETATION Our findings suggest that vitamin D may play an essential role in the pathophysiology of NIU. While the included studies demonstrated generally low potential bias, additional rigorous prospective studies are necessary to confirm these findings and further elucidate the underlying mechanisms involved. Vitamin D supplementation could represent a possible therapeutic strategy for preventing or managing NIU if substantiated. Clinicians should consider screening for and addressing vitamin D deficiency in patients with or at risk for NIU.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To identify the characteristics, treatment, and visual outcomes of dengue uveitis at a tertiary eye care centre in Singapore. METHODS Retrospective case record review of all consecutive dengue uveitis patients (2004 to 2015) from the Ocular Autoimmune Systemic Inflammatory and Infectious Study (OASIS) database. RESULTS Fifty-four patients were identified from the OASIS database. The most common ocular symptom was blurring of vision (n = 41, 75.9%), followed by floaters (n = 9, 17.0%), scotoma (n = 5, 9.3%), and metamorphopsia (n = 3, 5.7%). Scotoma based on history, Amsler grid, and perimetry accounted for 27 (50%) patients. Majority presented with either a posterior uveitis or retinal vasculitis (n = 51, 94.4%). Treatments ranged from close observation for spontaneous improvement, to the use of high-dose corticosteroids. CONCLUSIONS Dengue uveitis may present with a spectrum of disease manifestations including posterior uveitis, vasculitis, and macula edema. Scotoma is significant and may be found on history taking, Amsler charting, and perimetry.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To examine the prevalence of extra-musculoskeletal manifestations (EMM) and the association between diagnostic delay and their incidence in AS and PsA. METHODS This was a retrospective, cohort study comprising two single centre cohorts in Europe and one multicentre cohort in Latin America (RESPONDIA). Crude prevalence of EMMs (uveitis, IBD and psoriasis) was calculated across geographic area and adjusted by direct standardization. Cox proportional hazard analysis was performed to assess the association between diagnostic delay and EMM incidence. RESULTS Of 3553 patients, 2097 had AS and 1456 had PsA. The overall prevalence of uveitis was 22.9% (95% CI: 21.1, 24.8) in AS and 3.8% (95% CI: 2.9, 5.0) in PsA; 8.1% (95% CI: 7.0, 9.4) and 2.1% (1.3, 2.9), respectively, for IBD; and 11.0% (95% CI: 9.7, 12.4) and 94.6% (93.0, 95.9), respectively, for psoriasis. The EMM often presented before the arthritis (uveitis 45.1% and 33.3%, and IBD 37.4% and 70%, in AS and PsA, respectively). In the multivariable model, longer diagnostic delay (≥5 years) associated with more uveitis (hazard ratio [HR] 4.01; 95% CI: 3.23, 4.07) and IBD events (HR 1.85; 95% CI: 1.28, 2.67) in AS. Diagnostic delay was not significantly associated with uveitis (HR 1.57; 95% CI: 0.69, 3.59) or IBD events (HR 1.59; 95% CI: 0.39, 6.37) in PsA. CONCLUSION EMMs are more prevalent in AS than PsA and often present before the onset of the articular disease. A longer diagnostic delay is associated with the 'de novo' appearance of uveitis and IBD in AS, highlighting the need to enhance diagnostic strategies to shorten the time from first symptom to diagnosis in SpA.

Abstract
Introduction During the COVID-19 pandemic in China, the proportion of patients with uveitis who were infected with SARS-CoV-2 increased greatly. The impact of SARS-CoV-2 infection on patients with uveitis has not been fully described. Methods A questionnaire on SARS-CoV-2 infection was sent to patients with uveitis to assess ocular and systemic conditions before and after infection. Chi-square analysis and multifactorial regression analysis were used to investigate the associations between each risk factor and the recurrence of uveitis after SARS-CoV-2 infection. Results One hundred thirty-nine patients with noninfectious uveitis completed the questionnaire; 114 (82.0%) had COVID-19, and 27 (23.7%) had recurrent or exacerbated uveitis after COVID-19. There was a higher rate of recurrence or aggravation of ocular inflammation in patients who developed severe COVID-19 symptoms (severe group 8/20 vs. nonsevere group 19/94). There were significant differences in the rates of recurrence and aggravation between the two groups of patients who differed in terms of ocular inflammatory activity within 3 months prior to SARS-CoV-2 infection (χ2 = 10.701, P=0.001), as well as in the rates of recurrence and aggravation after cessation of systemic immunomodulatory therapy. After multifactorial regression analysis, patients with active ocular inflammation within 3 months prior to SARS-CoV-2 infection had a greater risk of recurrence or exacerbation of uveitis after COVID-19 (OR=4.298, P=0.002). Conclusion The degree of ocular inflammatory activity within 3 months prior to SARS-CoV-2 infection may be a major factor influencing the recurrence or exacerbation of uveitis after infection. Interruption of medication should be minimized in patients with unstable inflammatory control.

Abstract
PURPOSE To describe the differences between de novo uveitis in elderly patients (≥60 years of age) and younger patients (< 60 years of age) in Colombia. METHODS Observational, analytic, cross-sectional study. RESULTS In the elderly group, idiopathic was the most common type of uveitis, followed by immune-mediated and infectious uveitis.No masquerade syndromes were diagnosed. Elderly patients had worse average visual acuities than young. Significant differences between both groups were observed in corneal edema, macular edema, cataract, glaucoma, and epiretinal membrane. Additionally, there were differences in the drugs used, such as topical hypotensive drugs, ocular lubricants, topical steroids, methotrexate, hydroxychloroquine, and adalimumab. CONCLUSION The present study demonstrated significant differences between elderly and young Colombian patients with de novo uveitis. The ophthalmologists should be aware of these patterns of presentation, which would help reach an adequate diagnosis and prevent complications based on the characteristics of each group.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Aim: To analyze the data and evaluate the prevalence of ocular lesions in patients with moderate ulcerative colitis. PATIENTS AND METHODS Materials and Methods: We observed 112 patients aged 18-75 years old with clinically, endoscopically and histologically confirmed moderate ulcerative colitis which lasted at least 6 months. An ophthalmologic exam was performed to determine the presence of ocular symptoms. RESULTS Results: Of the 112 patients with moderate ulcerative colitis, 21 (18,75%) had the following ocular lesions: episcleritis - 7 patients (6,25%), keratopathy - 5 patients (4,46%), uveitis - 5 patients (4,46%), cataract - 2 (1,78%) and scleritis - 2 (1.78%). CONCLUSION Conclusions: Because ocular symptoms in patients with UC are often nonspecific, it may be beneficial to perform ophthalmologic examinations as a routine follow-up component of in such patients.

Abstract
PURPOSE To assess the epidemiology, treatment, and outcomes of juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA)-associated uveitis (JIA-U) in Taiwan. METHODS Retrospective, multicenter database. RESULTS Totally, 44 (6.1%) of the 722 JIA patients had uveitis. The mean ages of JIA and JIA-U diagnosis were 10.7 and 11.1 years, respectively. JIA-U patients had more antinuclear antibody presence. Among JIA-U patients, 25 (56.8%) were male, 11 (25.0%) experienced any ocular complication, and 8 (18.2%) received ocular surgery. Inactivity lasting ≥6 months was achieved in 17 (38.6%) patients; however, 11 (25.0%) of those experienced reactivation with a mean of 624.7 days after achieving inactivity. Female had more ocular complications and surgeries. CONCLUSION Late age at JIA-U diagnosis and male predominance were distinctive in Taiwan. For patients with inactivity lasting ≥ 6 months was achieved, they still required close follow-up due to the high reactivation rate within 2 years. Female had poorer ocular outcomes.

Abstract
Uveitis is uncommon in children and its diagnosis and treatment are challenging. Little is known of the epidemiology of pediatric uveitis. Indeed, population-based studies in the literature are rare. However, there are many tertiary referral center reports that describe the patterns of uveitis in childhood, although few are from developed countries, and their comparison presents some issues. Anterior uveitis is the most frequent entity worldwide, especially in Western countries, where juvenile idiopathic arthritis is diffuse. Most cases of intermediate uveitis do not show any association with infectious or noninfectious systemic diseases. In low- and middle-income countries, posterior uveitis and panuveitis are prevalent due to the higher rates of infectious etiologies and systemic diseases such as Behçet disease and Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada disease. In recent decades, idiopathic uveitis rate has decreased thanks to diagnostic improvements.

Abstract
PURPOSE This study aimed to assess the clinical features of pediatric uveitis at a tertiary referral center in Western Japan. METHODS One hundred forty eyes of 80 patients aged <20 years at the time of uveitis onset, who visited Kyushu University Hospital between January 2010 and December 2019 were included in this study. Clinical records were retrospectively reviewed. Demographics, clinical findings, treatments, and visual prognoses were compared between the disease groups. RESULTS Of 80 patients, 32 were males and 48 were females. The average age of onset was 12.5 ± 4.8 (0-19) years. Tubulointerstitial nephritis and uveitis (TINU) and juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) were the most frequent causes, accounting for 11.3% and 10% of cases, respectively, followed by sarcoidosis (5%), Behçet's disease, acute anterior uveitis, Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada disease, and juvenile chronic iridocyclitis (3.8% each). Infectious uveitis accounted for 7.6% of the cases: cytomegalovirus was the most frequent agent. Of these cases, 43.8% were unclassified. Systemic therapies were administered to 87.5% of the patients with JIA, 33.3% of those with TINU, and 28.6% of the other diagnostic groups. In the unclassified group, 80% of the patients were followed up with only topical corticosteroids. LogMAR visual acuity of 0 or less accounted for more than 80% in the final examination. CONCLUSION TINU and JIA were the most common causes of pediatric uveitis. Although each required systemic therapy, most unclassified cases of pediatric uveitis were managed by topical corticosteroids alone with good visual prognosis. Accurate diagnosis is important for pediatric uveitis management.

Abstract
PURPOSE To describe the distribution, clinical findings, treatment, complications, and visual outcomes of pediatric uveitis at a tertiary referral ophthalmic center. METHODS The medical records of all patients ≤18 years diagnosed with and managed as uveitis from August 2016 to August 2021 were reviewed retrospectively. RESULTS Of the 97 patients, 52.6% were female, and the mean age at the onset was 10.5 ± 4.6 years (6 months to 18 years). Uveitis cases were predominantly anterior (33 [34%]), chronic (59 [60.8%]), bilateral (63 [64.9%]), and non-infectious (80 [82.5%]). A total of 36.1% (35 patients) of cases were idiopathic, and the most frequent systemic associations were juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA), 16 [16.5%]) and Behcet's disease (15 [15.5%]). Most patients (74 [76.3%]) experienced ocular complications, including vasculitis (29 [29.9%]), posterior synechiae (23 [23.7%]), and cataracts (22 [22.7%]). Patients with uveitis of all anatomic locations experienced an improvement in best-corrected visual acuity during the follow-up period (p < 0.01). CONCLUSION The most prevalent systemic associations were JIA and Behcet's disease. Ocular Behcet is a common etiology of pediatric uveitis in northeastern Iran. A timely and appropriate treatment could result in satisfactory visual outcomes.

Abstract
Tubulointerstitial nephritis and uveitis (TINU) syndrome is a disorder that was originally described in 1975. The syndrome, although diagnosed in all age ranges, is more frequently reported in pediatric patients. Diagnosis can be difficult, and its clinical spectrum is still being defined. In this article, we review the epidemiology, diagnosis, pathogenesis, clinical findings, prognosis, and treatment of both the ocular and renal disease. We comment on the current difficulties in diagnosis and study of the disease, its expanding clinical spectrum, and treatment strategies in pediatric patients.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To examine whether the COVID-19 pandemic was associated with an increased incidence of uveitis in children. STUDY DESIGN We performed a time-series analysis of patient records from a national, hospital-based, French surveillance system. All children hospitalized for uveitis in France between January 2012 and March 2022 were included. The incidence of newly diagnosed uveitis per 100 000 children per trimester in France was analyzed by a quasi-Poisson regression. A cohort of children diagnosed with uveitis at Robert-Debré Hospital was used to compare the characteristics of uveitis after and before the onset of the pandemic. RESULTS During the study period, 2492 children were hospitalized for uveitis in France. The COVID-19 pandemic, which started in March 2020, was associated with a significant increase in the occurrence of uveitis (estimated cumulative change, 44.9%; 95% CI 11.4-78.4; P < .001). The increase in the incidence of pediatric uveitis started in October 2020, while the national immunization program targeting children aged less than 18 years began in June 2021. This increase involved all forms of uveitis, regardless of location, and clincial characteristics were similar to those diagnosed before the pandemic. CONCLUSIONS Our study evidenced a significant increase in the incidence of pediatric uveitis following the COVID-19 pandemic. This increase occurred 6 months before the implementation of the national COVID-19 vaccination program for children, suggesting that the resurgence of this rare disease is independent of COVID-19 vaccination.

Abstract
PURPOSE To report the causes of childhood-onset uveitis in a tertiary pediatric ophthalmology hospital in Egypt. METHODS Retrospective study of the medical records of all uveitis patients following up at a tertiary pediatric ophthalmology hospital in Egypt from January 2017 to December 2020. RESULTS The present study included 388 patients. The most common anatomical category was intermediate uveitis (30.4%), and around half of these children had pars planitis. This was followed by panuveitis (25.5%), posterior uveitis (23.5%), and anterior uveitis (20.6%), in decreasing frequency. Juvenile idiopathic arthritis, toxoplasmosis, and Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada syndrome were the most common causes of anterior uveitis, posterior uveitis, and panuveitis respectively. Cataract (40.5%), glaucoma (33.8%), and cystoid macular edema (31.6%) were the most frequent ocular complications. CONCLUSION The present report provides the relative prevalence of the different anatomical types of uveitis, as well as their main causes in a cohort of Egyptian patients with childhood-onset uveitis.

Abstract
PURPOSE To assess noninfectious uveitis (NIU) risk after coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccination in patients without a history of uveitis. DESIGN A retrospective matched cohort study and self-controlled case series (SCCS) analysis using a longitudinal data asset with claims data from the OptumLabs Data Warehouse from December 11, 2020, through November 30, 2021. PARTICIPANTS The matched cohort analysis included patients continuously enrolled for 730 days before December 11, 2020, who received a COVID-19 vaccination during the study period. This COVID-19-vaccinated group was matched to a COVID-19-unvaccinated historical cohort enrolled in 2018 and 2019. The SCCS design included individuals from the vaccinated cohort who experienced an NIU event during the study period. Enrollees with a history of uveitis were excluded. METHODS Hazard ratios (HRs) were calculated using Cox proportional hazards models in the matched cohort design. Incidence rate ratios (IRRs) comparing NIU incidence in exposed risk periods after vaccination and unexposed control periods within individuals were calculated using conditional Poisson regression models in the SCCS design. Models were adjusted for age, recent receipt of non-COVID-19 vaccinations, corticosteroid or immunosuppressive use, and smoking history. Subgroup analyses were conducted by vaccination type and age group. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES Rates of NIU identified with International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision, codes. RESULTS The matched cohort analysis included 4 611 378 patients, with 2 305 689 per cohort. The adjusted HR comparing NIU incidence in the COVID-19-vaccinated and unvaccinated cohort was 0.91 (95% confidence interval [CI], 0.75-1.10; P = 0.33). The SCCS analysis included 686 patients. The IRR comparing NIU risk after vaccination with risk during control intervals was 1.05 (95% CI, 0.89-1.23; P = 0.57). An increased risk was found in the subgroup aged 5 to 44 years (IRR, 1.40; 95% CI, 1.04-1.87; P = 0.024). CONCLUSIONS The matched cohort and SCCS analyses did not detect increased NIU risk after COVID-19 vaccination overall in individuals without history of uveitis, providing reassurance about the vaccine's safety. The finding of increased risk in the youngest subgroup suggests heightened immune responses in younger individuals, warranting further investigation. Abstract
PURPOSE To investigate the rates of ocular complications and visual loss and their risk factors in patients with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) -associated uveitis. METHODS Medical records of 51 patients were reviewed. RESULTS The incidence of visual loss to the 20/50 or worse was found to be 0026/ eye-year (EY) in the present study. Cataract and ocular hypertension occurred during the follow-up period and were significantly associated with visual acuity loss to 20/50 or worse (p = .008, HR 11.932, 95% CI 1.915-74.355; p = .03, HR 7.323, 95% CI 1.216-44.110, respectively). Anti-TNF therapy was initiated in 88.2% of our cases and 93.3% of them achieved uveitis inactivity. CONCLUSION The risk of vision loss is higher in patients with JIA-associated uveitis who had complications at presentation. We attribute the lower complication rates and better visual outcomes in our study to the early and frequent use of biologic agents.

Abstract
PURPOSE To report demographic and clinical profiles of children with uveitis in theTurkishpopulation. METHODS The data of the pediatric uveitis cases in the nation wide uveitis database were analyzed. RESULTS The study included 697 eyes of 442 patients with a meanage of 10.8 ± 3.8 years. There were 333 patients (75.3%) with non-infectious uveitis and 69 patients (15.6%) with infectious uveitis. Pars planitis (20.1%) was leading clinical form followed by idiopathic cases with uveitis other than pars planitis (18.8%), juvenile idiopathic arthritis(JIA) related uveitis (12.4%), Behçet uveitis (9.3%) and toxoplasma retinochoroiditis (7.9%). Ocular involvement was unilateral in 187 patients (42.3%) and bilateral in 255 patients (57.7%). The most common anatomiclocation of uveitis was anterior uveitis (39.1%), followed by intermediate uveitis (29.4%), panuveitis (16.1%) and posterior uveitis (15.4%). CONCLUSION The most common systemic association was JIA in the younger children and Behçet disease in the older children.

Abstract
PURPOSE To describe the long-term prevalence of ocular complications and visual prognosis in patients with pediatric uveitis. METHODS Demographics, etiology and location of uveitis, type of complications, treatment and visual outcomes were recorded in 296 children at first examination and at 1-, 2-, 3-, 5- and 10-year time points. RESULTS Αnterior uveitis represented 53.4% of cases, followed by intermediate (28.0%), posterior uveitis (11.1%) and panuveitis (7.4%). The leading diagnoses were idiopathic uveitis (31.1%), juvenile idiopathic arthritis (27.0%) and pars planitis (22.6%). Posterior synechiae was the most frequent complication of anterior uveitis and panuveitis, cystoid macular edema and disc edema of intermediate and posterior uveitis respectively. Posterior uveitis and panuveitis had more severe final vision loss (23.1% and 20% respectively). CONCLUSIONS This study provides clinical characteristics and main complications in a longitudinal long-term follow-up of a large non-infectious pediatric uveitis Greek population. Early diagnosis and close monitoring remain of fundamental importance.

Abstract
PURPOSE To explore the patterns of uveitis in a main ophthalmic referral center in the Eastern province of Saudi Arabia. METHODS A retrospective chart review of uveitis cases was conducted in a tertiary eye hospital for five years. In addition, a comprehensive review of Saudi publications about uveitis patterns in the literature. RESULTS Out of 222 patients included, 54.4% were females, with a mean age of 38.5 years. Uveitis was bilateral in 55.7%, non-granulomatous in 55.9%, and infectious in 11.3%. Most of the cases were anterior uveitis (51.1%), followed by panuveitis (26%), intermediate uveitis (12.8%), and posterior uveitis (10%). Apart from idiopathic cases (43.7%), the most common diagnoses were Vogt-Koyanagi-Harada disease (11.3%) and Behcet's disease (7.7%) in adults. Juvenile idiopathic arthritis (7.2%) was commonest among children. Posterior synechiae was the leading complication (32.0%), followed by cataracts (22.8%). CONCLUSIONS VKH and Behçet disease were the primary non-idiopathic etiologies in Saudi Arabia.

Abstract
BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVE Data on risk factors predicting uveitis development in spondyloarthritis (SpA) is scarce. Our aim was to examine associations between demographic, clinical and/or laboratory characteristics of SpA with the occurrence and the course of uveitis, including ocular damage and recurrence rate. METHODS Characteristics (at disease diagnosis and ever-present) from axSpA and Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) patients followed in 3 tertiary rheumatology-clinics were retrospectively recorded. Comparisons were made between patients with and without uveitis, as well as between those with uveitis-rate [episodes/year] above the median uveitis-rate in the whole cohort ("recurrent"-uveitis) and the remaining uveitis patients ("non-recurrent uveitis"). In multivariable models, age, gender and variables significantly different in univariate analyses were included. RESULTS 264 axSpA and 369 PsA patients were enrolled. In axSpA, uveitis occurred in 11.7% and was associated with HLA-B27 (OR = 4.15, 95%CI 1.16-14.80, p = 0.028) and ever-present peripheral arthritis (OR = 3.05 (1.10-8.41, p = 0.031). In contrast, uveitis in PsA occurred only in 2.7% of patients and was associated with SpA family-history (OR = 6.35 (1.29-31.27), p = 0.023) axial disease at diagnosis (OR = 5.61 [1.01-28.69], p = 0.038) and disease duration (OR = 1.12 [1.04-1.21], p = 0.004). Median uveitis recurrence rate was comparable between axSpA and PsA (0.205 and 0.285 episodes/year, respectively). No associations were found between recurrent uveitis and demographic/clinical/laboratory characteristics. Ocular damage (e.g. synechiae) was seen in 16.1% of axSpA and 30% of PsA patients, all of them with recurrent uveitis. CONCLUSION Uveitis occurred more commonly in axSpA than in PsA patients, while uveitis recurrence rate was similar. Permanent ocular damage may occur more often in PsA than axSpA.

Abstract
AIMS To describe the aetiology, complications, treatment and outcomes of paediatric uveitis. METHODS This was a retrospective chart review including all paediatric participants presenting with uveitis to a tertiary referral hospital in Auckland, New Zealand between January 1997 and March 2020. RESULTS Two hundred and twenty-four eyes of 143 participants were included. One hundred and three (46.0%) eyes were found to have uveitis without the child reporting any symptoms. Non-infectious uveitis occurred in 97 (67.8%) participants and infectious aetiology occurred in 46 (32.2%) participants. One hundred and twenty-six (56.3%) eyes developed complications by final follow-up, including ocular hypertension (60 eyes, 26.8%), cataract (55 eyes, 24.6%) and glaucoma (21 eyes, 9.4%). Conventional disease modifying anti-rheumatic drugs (DMARDs) were required in 58 (59.8%) participants, and biologic disease modifying anti-rheumatic drugs in 31 (32.0%) participants with non-infectious uveitis. Participants who were younger at presentation were more likely to require a DMARD (OR 0.896 p=0.032). Vision loss of 6/15 or worse occurred in 38 (17.0%) eyes. CONCLUSIONS Infections are an important cause of uveitis in this age group. Asymptomatic presentation and complications commonly occur. A large proportion of children with non-infectious uveitis will require steroid sparing immunosuppression.

Abstract
In the current literature, clinical registry cohorts related to ocular inflammation are few and far between, and there are none involving multi-continental international data. Many existing registries comprise administrative databases, data related to specific uveitic diseases, or are designed to address a particular clinical problem. The existing data, although useful and serving their intended purposes, are segmented and may not be sufficiently robust to design prognostication tools or draw epidemiological conclusions in the field of uveitis and ocular inflammation. To solve this, we have developed the Ocular Autoimmune Systemic Inflammatory Infectious Study (OASIS) Clinical Registry. OASIS collects prospective and retrospective data on patients with all types of ocular inflammatory conditions from centers all around the world. It is a primarily web-based platform with alternative offline modes of access. A comprehensive set of clinical data ranging from demographics, past medical history, clinical presentation, working diagnosis to visual outcomes are collected over a range of time points. Additionally, clinical images such as optical coherence tomography, fundus fluorescein angiography and indocyanine green angiography studies may be uploaded. Through the capturing of diverse, well-structured, and clinically meaningful data in a simplified and consistent fashion, OASIS will deliver a comprehensive and well organized data set ripe for data analysis. The applications of the registry are numerous, and include performing epidemiological analysis, monitoring drug side effects, and studying treatment safety efficacy. Furthermore, the data compiled in OASIS will be used to develop new classification and diagnostic systems, as well as treatment and prognostication guidelines for uveitis.

Abstract
PURPOSE To describe the incidence, prevalence and etiologies of uveitis in Madrid, Spain. METHODS A retrospective cross-sectional study was performed in a single hospital. All consecutive cases of uveitis that attended the Hospital during year 2019 were included. Mean incidence and prevalence were calculated. RESULTS Three hundred and one cases were included. Of these, 127 were incident. This represents an incidence of 21.24 new cases per 100,000 persons/year, and a prevalence was 50.43 cases per 100,000 persons. Mean age was 56.89 ± 18.78 years, and 159 were women (52.8%). Sixty-two cases were infectious (20.6%). Age (p = .005), initial visual acuity (p = .001) and cystoid macular oedema (CMO; p = .010) were found to be independent predictors of the final best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) in patients with uveitis. CONCLUSIONS Uveitis affects approximately 1 in 1800 persons in northern Madrid. Younger age, better initial visual acuities and the presence of CMO predicted better final BCVA.

Abstract
PURPOSE To analyse the demography, etiology, and classification of uveitis at a tertiary academic referral center. METHODS An observational study was conducted on the archives of uveitic patients at the Ocular Inflammation Service of the Department of Ophthalmology at the University Hospital of Ioannina (Greece) from 1991 to 2020. This study aimed to investigate the epidemiological profile of patients, including their demographics and the main etiologic factors of uveitis. RESULTS Out of 6191 cases with uveitis, 1925 were infectious, 4125 were non-infectious, and an overall of 141 masquerade syndromes were recorded. Among these cases, 5950 patients were adults, with a slight female predominance, while 241 were children (< 18 years old). Interestingly, 24.2% of cases (1500 patients) were associated with 4 specific microorganisms. Herpetic uveitis (HSV-1 and VZV/HZV) was the most common cause of infectious uveitis (14.87%), followed by toxoplasmosis (6.6%) and tuberculosis (2.74%). In 49.2% of non-infectious uveitis cases, no systematic correlation was found. The most frequent causes of non-infectious uveitis included sarcoidosis, white dot syndromes, ankylosing spondylitis, lens-induced uveitis, Adamantiades-Behçet disease, and idiopathic juvenile arthritis. Infectious uveitis was more common in the rural population, whereas non-infectious uveitis was more frequently recorded in the urban population CONCLUSIONS: Although our study was conducted on a predominantly white Caucasian population, it also reflects the effect of increasing immigration, improvements of diagnostic techniques, changes in referral patterns, and various actual changes in disease incidence.

Abstract
Reports on uveitis after COVID-19 have been limited. Our objective was to examine the risk of uveitis among COVID-19 patients. This was a retrospective cohort study based on the TriNetX platform. The exposure group was patients with positive laboratory test result for SARS-CoV-2 and the comparison group was those tested negative for COVID-19 throughout the study period. The endpoint is the new diagnoses of uveitis. This study composed of 2 105 424 patients diagnosed with COVID-19 (55.4% female; 62.5% white; mean age at index 40.7 years) and 2 105 424 patients (55.4% female; 62.4% white; mean age at index 40.7 years) who never had COVID-19. There was significantly increased risk of new diagnosis of uveitis since the first month after diagnosis of COVID-19 compared with matched controls (HR: 1.18, 95% CI: 1.03-1.34) up to 24 months (HR: 1.16, 95% CI: 1.09-1.22). Our findings strengthen those previously raised by case series with a larger and multicenter study. We found that uveitis was significantly associated with COVID-19 infection. Our findings reiterate the need for careful investigation as well as increased awareness from ophthalmologists in considering the possibility of COVID-19 in vulnerable patients with new presentation of uveitis.

Abstract
AIM Brucellosis may affect the eye to varying degrees. The aim of this study was to investigate the ocular involvement of brucellosis and highlight key points. MATERIAL AND METHODS Published literature in English language on the ocular involvement of brucellosis within last 30 years was evaluated. The PubMed international database was screened using certain keywords. RESULTS The study included 27 publications evaluating a total of 159 cases. The most common types of ocular involvement were uveitis (52.2%) and conjunctivitis (17.6%). Most cases had concomitant systemic brucellosis (27.7%), and the most commonly used diagnostic method was a serological test (92.4%). Of all the patients, 37.1% recovered with sequelae. CONCLUSION Brucellosis may cause a wide range of ophthalmic manifestations, and an overlooked or late diagnosis may also lead to the development of sequelae or loss of vision. A routine ophthalmologic examination should be performed in all patients with systemic brucellosis.

Abstract
Delay diagnosis of spondyloarthritis (SpA) is associated with poor functional ability and quality of life. Uveitis is the most frequent extraarticular manifestation in SpA, and its prevalence increases with longer disease duration. This study examines the effect of uveitis on the disease activity and functional outcome of undiagnosed SpA. We reviewed published and unpublished studies. Data were pooled using the random-effects model; pooled means, and mean differences (MDs) were calculated. In the included 14 studies, disease activity, functional index, and inflammatory markers were measured in 2581 patients with SpA with uveitis and 13,972 without. The pooled mean delay in diagnosis of SpA with uveitis (6.08 years; 95% CI 4.77 to 7.38) was longer than those without (5.41 years; 95% CI 3.94 to 6.89). The Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Disease Activity Index (BASDAI) score was the highest for a delay of 2-5 years (5.60, 95% CI 5.47 to 5.73) and the Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Functional Index (BASFI) score was the lowest for a delay of < 2 years (2.92, 95% CI 2.48 to 3.37) and gradually increased to delay of > 10 years (4.17, 95% CI 2.93 to 5.41). Patients with SpA with uveitis had higher trend of Ankylosing Spondylitis Disease Activity Score (ASDAS)-CRP and BASDAI. The delay to diagnosis was longer in SpA with uveitis, and disease activity was often higher than those without uveitis. Early diagnosis of SpA with timely initiation of an appropriate management plan may reduce the adverse effects of the disease and improve functional ability.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Economic prosperity has fostered numerous changes that may translate into better or worse outcomes across all domains of health. This study aims to explore the associations of economic development with uveitis onset in mainland China. METHODS We used Poisson regression with generalized estimated equations to quantify the associations of per capita gross domestic product (GDP) with uveitis onset in 31 provinces of mainland China from 2006 to 2017. We further estimated the effects mediated by economic growth on the temperature-uveitis and PM2.5-uveitis associations established in our previous studies. RESULTS A total of 12,721 uveitis patients from 31 provinces of mainland China were studied. Overall, every 10,000 Chinese yuan ($ 1491.278, 2006-2017) increase in per capita GDP, with no weighted value or weighted by population, corresponded to 1.85% (95% confidence interval, 1.19-2.52%) and 1.43% (95% confidence interval, 0.37-2.51%) lnRR decrease in the uveitis onsets. Stratified analysis showed this negative association between per capita GDP and uveitis onset, only existed in male patients (P < .001), individuals aged 20-50 years (P < 0 .05), non-infectious uveitis, uveitis with systemic disease, and Bechet's disease (all P < 0 .05). Moreover, the increased per capita GDP, if above the national level, could reinforce both temperature-uveitis and PM2.5-uveitis association (both P < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS The findings suggest that economic development is negatively associated with uveitis onset. However, it may facilitate the uveitis onset mediated by both increased temperature and PM2.5 exposure if the per capita GDP is above national level.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aimed to examine the publication patterns and present a current view of the field of uveitis using a bibliometric analysis. DESIGN Bibliometric analysis. METHODS AND ANALYSIS A comprehensive search of three databases including MEDLINE, EMBASE and Cochrane was conducted from 1 January 2000 to 31 December 2022. Search results from all three databases were subjected to analysis by Bibliometrix, an R programme that analyses large literature dataset with statistical and mathematical models. Visualisation of collaboration networks and relevance between countries was presented with VOSviewer. RESULTS A total of 26 296 articles were included in the analysis. The field of uveitis has undergone a significant exponential growth since 2000, with an average growth rate of 4.14%. The most substantial annual growth was between the years 2021 and 2022 (36%). According to the corresponding author's countries, the three most productive countries were Turkey (3288, 12.6%), the USA (3136, 12%) and Japan (1981, 7.6%). The USA (243, 31.4%), England (117, 15%) and Germany (62, 8%) are the top three countries that contributed to clinical trials. The average international collaboration of all countries was 2.5%. CONCLUSIONS Uveitis literature has undergone significant growth in the past two decades. The demographic factors of publishing countries lead to their various productivity and types of these uveitis studies, which is closely associated with the countries' scientific research resources and patient populations.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE With the recent emergence and worldwide distribution of COVID-19 vaccines, many side effects may be underreported and possibly unknown. Cases of vaccine-associated uveitis have been linked to almost all vaccines administered in the past; however, there is scarcity of literature providing insight into post-COVID-19 vaccine-associated uveitis. This case series documents patients presenting with uveitis after administration of the Pfizer and Moderna mRNA vaccines, in hope of advancing our current understanding of potential ocular complications of COVID-19 vaccines. METHODS Patients with ocular symptoms consistent with uveitis within 14 days after administration of the Pfizer or Moderna COVID-19 vaccines were included in this case series. RESULTS Eight patients with a mean age of 44.4 years (range, 19-83) were included. Six patients received a Pfizer, and 2 received a Moderna vaccine. Four patients presented after their first dose, 3 after their second dose, and 1 after both doses. The mean onset of ocular symptoms after the vaccine was 5.19 days (range, 1-14), and the mean BCVA was 0.678. Patients were diagnosed with bilateral anterior granulomatous uveitis (case 1), unilateral non-granulomatous anterior uveitis (case 2, 5-8), and bilateral non-granulomatous anterior uveitis (case 3-4). CONCLUSIONS The pathogenesis of vaccine-induced uveitis is not properly understood; however, the outcomes of this case series will aid in establishing a temporal association between the Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines and the onset of uveitis. As the rate of COVID-19 vaccinations increases globally, it is imperative for physicians to be aware of the possible association and presentation of these ocular findings and diagnoses in order to treat patients effectively.
