Abstract
Children aged 4.5–5.5 years completed a go/no-go task while recording EEG. P3b amplitudes were assessed, indexing inhibition and attention processes. Higher household income related to larger P3b amplitudes on go and no-go trials. Results show that SES has implications for children’s neural processing.
While it is well established that lower socioeconomic status (SES) is associated with poorer executive functioning (EF), how SES relates to the neural processing of EF in childhood remains largely unexplored. We examined how household income and parent education related to amplitudes of the P3b, an event-related potential component, during one EF task. We assessed the P3b, indexing inhibition and attention allocation processes, given the importance of these skills for academic success. Children aged 4.5–5.5 years completed a go/no-task, which assesses inhibitory control and attention, while recording EEG. The P3b was assessed for both go trials (indexing sustained attention) and no-go trials (indexing inhibition processes). Higher household income was related to larger P3b amplitudes on both go and no-go trials. This was a highly educated sample, thus results indicate that P3b amplitudes are sensitive to household income even within the context of high parental education. Findings build on the behavioral literature and demonstrate that SES also has implications for the neural mechanisms underlying inhibition and attention processing in early childhood.

Abstract
RATIONALE The genus Pericopsis includes four tree species of which only Pericopsis elata (Harms) Meeuwen is of commercial interest. Enforcement officers might have difficulties discerning this CITES-listed species from some other tropical African timber species. Therefore, we tested several methods to separate and identify these species rapidly in order to enable customs officials to uncover illegal trade. In this study, two classification methods using Direct Analysis in Real Time (DART™) ionization coupled with Time-of-Flight Mass Spectrometry (DART-TOFMS) data to discern between several species are presented. METHODS Metabolome profiles were collected using DART™ ionization coupled with TOFMS analysis of heartwood specimens of all four Pericopsis species and Haplormosia monophylla (Harms) Harms, Dalbergia melanoxylon Guill. & Perr. Harms, and Milicia excelsa (Welw.) C.C. Berg. In total, 95 specimens were analysed and the spectra evaluated. Kernel Discriminant Analysis (KDA) and Random Forest classification were used to discern the species. RESULTS DART-TOFMS spectra obtained from wood slivers and post-processing analysis using KDA and Random Forest classification separated Pericopsis elata from the other Pericopsis taxa and its lookalike timbers Haplormosia monophylla, Milicia excelsa, and Dalbergia melanoxylon. Only 50 ions were needed to achieve the highest accuracy. CONCLUSIONS DART-TOFMS spectra of the taxa were reproducible and the results of the chemometric analysis provided comparable accuracy. Haplormosia monophylla was visually distinguished based on the heatmap and was excluded from further analysis. Both classification methods, KDA and Random Forest, were capable of distinguishing Pericopsis elata from the other Pericopsis taxa, Milicia excelsa, and Dalbergia melanoxylon, timbers that are commonly traded.

Abstract
Because the electrocardiograms (ECGs) of patients with symptoms suggesting an acute thrombotic coronary occlusion are typically read by physicians relatively inexperienced in this skill, it is important to develop automated decision support. A Thrombolytic Predictive Instrument (TPI) is now available along with the standard diagnostic software in a commercially available electrocardiograph. This study evaluates the performance of the predictive software in comparison to both an expert cardiologist and standard diagnostic software. True sensitivity and specificity cannot be determined because acute coronary angiography was not performed. The specificities determined by this study were excellent (98% and 99%), and the sensitivities were very good (72% and 78%). These results that the TPI will be only rarely applied to patients who do not indeed have an acute coronary thrombosis. However, the reasons for even this small number of presumably falsely TPI positive patients should be determined and analyzed. It is unlikely that alterations of the thresholds for TPI activation will significantly improve on this very good level of sensitivity, without prohibitively decreasing specificity.

Abstract
This article reviews the existing literature on the pharmacoeconomics and effectiveness of antidepressant medications. Although selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) have not proved to be more efficacious than the older tricyclics, and their prescription costs are significantly higher, they provide superior effectiveness; ie, patients are less likely to discontinue taking them or switch antidepressants. Pharmacoeconomic studies consistently demonstrate a relationship between this superior effectiveness and reductions in overall treatment costs, often through decreased utilization of medical and hospital services. The most conservative study found a cost offset that more than negated the extra cost of drugs, although the cost savings were not statistically significant. Other studies found statistically significant lowering of utilization costs by using SSRIs rather than tricyclics. Studies comparing SSRIs with each other present conflicting findings, although fluoxetine appears to have an edge over sertraline and paroxetine with regards to effectiveness and pharmacoeconomics. More studies employing a prospective outcome design and naturalistic study setting need to be conducted with SSRIs and other new antidepressants.

Abstract
The response to drugs of 30 agitated, noisy, restless, aggressive patients in an extended care unit was monitored over two years. A graph was used to record the patients' response to sedatives, tranquillizers and hypnotic drugs in each four hour interval for 24 hours. The object was to keep patients relaxed so that they could participate in ward activities. This monitoring method requires close teamwork between the physician and ward nurse. The nurse observes and records the patients' moods every four hours, and the physician changes the dose, timing, or drug as needed.

Abstract
Four groups of 15 Ss each heard words recorded by a male or female model and intermittently said words of their own in response. 15 male and 15 female Ss were exposed to each model. All Ss took the MMPI, the EPFS, and a postural sway test. There was a significant increase in the critical response class, animal words, as the frequency of animal words spoken by the taped models increased ( p < .001). Male Ss gave significantly more imitative responses than did female Ss ( p < .001), but no reliable effect due to the sex of the model was found. Esssentially no interpretable correlations were obtained between the amount of verbal imitation exhibited and the personality variables measured.
