Abstract
Schizophrenia (SCZ) is a profound neurological disorder that affects approximately 1% of the global population. Alpha-pinene (α-pinene) is a natural and active monoterpene found in coniferous tree oil, primarily pine, with diverse pharmacological characteristics, including antioxidative, anxiolytic, and antidepressant properties. This research study delves into the neuroprotective effects of α-pinene on oxidative stress, memory deficits, and depressive and anxiety-like behaviors in a ketamine-induced mice model of SCZ using male mice. The mice were randomly divided into six groups: vehicle, control, positive control, ketamine, α-pinene at 50 mg/kg, and α-pinene at 100 mg/kg. Treatment of the ketamine-induced mice model of SCZ with α-pinene yielded significant improvements in depressive and anxiety-like behaviors and cognitive impairments. Furthermore, it significantly elevated glutathione (GSH) levels, total antioxidant capacity (TAC), dopamine levels, catalase (CAT), and superoxide dismutase (SOD) activities while markedly reducing malondialdehyde (MDA) levels. The current study establishes that α-pinene treatment effectively mitigates oxidative damage, cognitive deficits, and depressive and anxiogenic-like behaviors in the brains of ketamine-treated mice. Therefore, α-pinene treatment is an efficacious approach to forestall the neurobehavioral and neurobiochemical adverse effects of the ketamine-induced SCZ model of mice.

Abstract
Successful male fertilization requires the main processes such as normal spermatogenesis, sperm capacitation, hyperactivation, and acrosome reaction. The progress of these processes depends on some endogenous and exogenous factors. So, the optimal level of ions and essential and rare elements such as selenium, zinc, copper, iron, manganese, calcium, and so on in various types of cells of the reproductive system could affect conception and male fertility rates. The function of trace elements in the male reproductive system could be exerted through some cellular and molecular processes, such as the management of active oxygen species, involvement in the action of membrane channels, regulation of enzyme activity, regulation of gene expression and hormone levels, and modulation of signaling cascades. In this review, we aim to summarize the available evidence on the role of trace elements in improving male reproductive performance. Also, special attention is paid to the cellular aspects and the involved molecular signaling cascades.

Abstract
Background Oxidative stress is involved in pathogenesis of some psychiatric disorders. To examine the role of oxidative stress in the etiopathogenesis of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), we aimed to determine oxidative stress indices, including malondialdehyde (MDA) levels in serum and red blood cells (RBC) membrane, total antioxidant capacity (TAC), serum glutathione (GSH) levels, serum antioxidant vitamins (A and E), and Na+/K+-ATPase activity, in patients with the mentioned disorder vs. healthy controls. Method 39 OCD patients diagnosed based on Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-V) and 39 volunteer healthy subjects were included in this study. MDA levels in serum and RBC membrane were measured using fluorometric method. Serum TAC level, serum GSH level, and Na+/K+-ATPase activity were also measured using spectrophotometric methods. Serum levels of vitamins were calculated by reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC). Result There was a significantly higher MDA level in serum (p < 0.0001) and RBC membrane (p = 0.002) of OCD patients compared with those in controls. A significant reduction in vitamin A (p = 0.001) and vitamin E (p = 0.024) levels was found in OCD patients vs. controls. There was significantly lower activity of erythrocyte membrane Na+/K+-ATPase in RBC membrane of OCD patients vs. controls (p < 0.0001). Conclusion Our findings indicate significantly higher levels MDA in both serum and RBC membrane, lower levels of serum vitamins A and E, and lower activity of membrane Na+/K+-ATPase in OCD patients compared to controls. These suggest an imbalance between oxidant and antioxidant factors in OCD patients that might play a fundamental role in the etiopathogenesis of OCD.

Abstract
The incubation period of COVID-19 symptoms, along with the proliferation and high transmission rate of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, is the cause of an uncontrolled epidemic worldwide. Vaccination is the front line of prevention, and antiinflammatory and antiviral drugs are the treatment of this disease. In addition, some herbal therapy approaches can be a good way to deal with this disease. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of propolis syrup with Hyoscyamus niger L. extract in hospitalized patients with COVID-19 with acute disease conditions in a double-blinded approach. The study was performed on 140 patients with COVID-19 in a double-blind, randomized, and multicentral approach. The main inclusion criterion was the presence of a severe type of COVID-19 disease. The duration of treatment with syrup was 6 days and 30 CC per day in the form of three meals. On Days 0, 2, 4, and 6, arterial blood oxygen levels, C-reactive protein (CRP), erythrocyte sedimentation rate, and white blood cell, as well as the patient's clinical symptoms such as fever and chills, cough and shortness of breath, chest pain, and other symptoms, were recorded and analyzed. Propolis syrup with H. niger L. significantly reduces cough from the second day, relieving shortness of breath on the fourth day, and significantly reduces CRP, weakness, and lethargy, as well as significantly increased arterial blood oxygen pressure on the sixth day compared to the placebo group (p < 0.05). The results in patients are such that in the most severe conditions of the disease 80% < SpO2 (oxygen saturation), the healing process of the syrup on reducing CRP and increasing arterial blood oxygen pressure from the fourth day is significantly different compared with the placebo group (p < 0.05). The use of syrup is associated with a reduction of 3.6 days in the hospitalization period compared with the placebo group. Propolis syrup with H. niger L. has effectiveness in the viral and inflammatory phases on clinical symptoms and blood parameters and arterial blood oxygen levels of patients with COVID-19. Also, it reduces referrals to the intensive care unit and mortality in hospitalized patients with COVID-19. So, this syrup promises to be an effective treatment in the great challenge of COVID-19.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Preeclampsia (PE) is a leading cause of maternal death worldwide and involves vascular endothelial dysfunction. The aim of this study was to investigate the association of the G894T polymorphism in the endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) gene and the risk of preeclampsia in a case-control design in an Iranian population, which was followed by a meta-analysis and an in silico approach. METHODS In the case-control study, 300 people including 135 pregnant women with preeclampsia and 165 healthy pregnant women were included. The genotype of G894T polymorphism was determined by the PCR-RFLP method. We searched authoritative scientific databases to find eligible studies for meta-analysis. The odds ratio with a 95% confidence interval was estimated to find the strength of the association of the mentioned polymorphism with the risk of preeclampsia. In addition, the effect of G894T transversion on eNOS gene function was evaluated by some bioinformatics tools. RESULTS Our case-control data showed that the G894T polymorphism is associated with an increased risk of preeclampsia. In the meta-analysis, 33 eligible studies were included, and the results showed that the G894T polymorphism is associated with an increased risk of preeclampsia in the overall analysis and some stratified analyses. In addition, the structural analysis showed that the G894T variant can affect the splicing process as well as the protein stability. CONCLUSIONS Based on the results, the aforementioned polymorphism may be a risk factor for preeclampsia and could be considered a potential molecular biomarker for screening susceptible individuals.

Abstract
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is a chronic, severe disabling neuropsychiatric disorder whose pathophysiology is not yet well defined. Generally, the symptom onset occurs during pre-adult life and affects subjects in different life aspects, including professional and social relationships. Although robust evidence indicates the presence of genetic factors in the etiopathology of OCD, the entirely mechanisms are not totally clarified. Thus, the possible interactions between genes and environmental risk factors mediated by epigenetic mechanisms should be sought. Therefore, we provide a review of genetic and epigenetic mechanisms related to OCD with a deep focus on the regulation of critical genes of the central nervous system seeking possible potential biomarkers.

Abstract
Aim: CYP1A1 is a metabolizing enzyme and key polymorphisms in its gene may contribute to the risk of ischemic stroke. This study aimed to investigate the association of the rs4646903 and rs1048943 polymorphisms of CYP1A1 with stroke risk in a meta-analysis and a bioinformatic approach. Materials & methods: An electronic search was conducted and, after the screening procedure, six eligible studies were included in the meta-analysis. Some bioinformatic tools were employed to analyze the effects of rs4646903 and rs1048943 on CYP1A1 gene function. Results: There was a significant association between rs4646903 and the reduced risk of ischemic stroke, whereas there was no significant association for rs1048943. In silico analysis showed that rs4646903 and rs1048943 polymorphisms could affect the gene expression and cofactor affinity, respectively. Conclusion: Based on these results, rs4646903 may be a protective genetic factor against ischemic stroke.

Abstract
Since 2020, SARS-CoV-2 has caused a pandemic virus that has posed many challenges worldwide. Infection with this virus can result in a number of symptoms, one of which is anosmia. Olfactory dysfunction can be a temporary or long-term viral complication caused by a disorder of the olfactory neuroepithelium. Processes such as inflammation, apoptosis, and neuronal damage are involved in the development of SARS-CoV-2-induced anosmia. One of the receptors that play a key role in the entry of SARS-CoV-2 into the host cell is the transmembrane serine protease TMPRSS2, which facilitates this process by cleaving the viral S protein. The gene encoding TMPRSS2 is located on chromosome 21. It contains 15 exons and has many genetic variations, some of which increase the risk of disease. Delta strains have been shown to be more dependent on TMPRSS2 for cell entry than Omicron strains. Blockade of this receptor by serine protease inhibitors such as camostat and nafamostat can be helpful for treating SARS-CoV-2 symptoms, including anosmia. Proper understanding of the different functional aspects of this serine protease can help to overcome the therapeutic challenges of SARS-CoV-2 symptoms, including anosmia. In this review, we describe the cellular and molecular events involved in anosmia induced by SARS-CoV-2 with a focus on the function of the TMPRSS2 receptor.

Abstract
Paraoxonase 1 (PON1), an enzyme with multifactorial antioxidant activity, has a protective role against oxidative stress, which is supposed to contribute to the development of cancers including breast cancer. The aim of this study was to examine the correlation of PON1-L55M common genetic polymorphism with the risk of breast cancer in a meta-analysis approach which was followed by an in silico analysis. The eligible studies were collected from valid electronic databases such as Google Scholar, PubMed, Embase, and Web of Science. Quantitative synthesis was performed to report the strength of PON1-L55M polymorphism with breast cancer. Some bioinformatics tools were used to analyze the effects of L55M variation on PON1 gene function. The meta-analysis revealed that there are significant associations between the mentioned polymorphism and breast cancer in M vs. L, MM vs. LL, LM vs. LL, MM + LM vs. LL, and MM vs. LL + LM genetic models. Besides, similar results were observed in the stratified analyses based on ethnicity, genotyping method, Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium in control groups, and sample size. Bioinformatics analysis revealed that the PON1 could be damaging to the protein function. Our findings propose that the PON1-L55M genetic polymorphism might be a genetic risk factor for the risk of breast cancer.

Abstract
Although the neuroprotective effects of calcitriol have been demonstrated in a variety of neurological diseases, such as stroke, the precise molecular mechanism has yet to be determined. This study aimed to investigate the possible role of calcitriol as a neuroprotective agent via CYP46A1 and glutamate receptors in a middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) animal model. The MCAO technique was performed on adult male Wistar rats to induce focal cerebral ischemia for 1 hour followed by 23 hours of reperfusion. Calcitriol was given for 7 days prior to stroke induction. Sensorimotor functional tests were done 24 hours after ischemia/reperfusion, and infarct volume was estimated by tetrazolium chloride staining of brain sections. Gene expression of NR2A, NR2B, NR3B, and CYP46A1 was evaluated by RT-PCR followed by western blotting for NR3B protein. Our data revealed that calcitriol pretreatment reduced lesion volume and improved ischemic neurobehavioral parameters. Calcitriol therapy altered the expression of glutamate receptor and CYP46A1 genes. A possible molecular mechanism of calcitriol to reduce the severity and complications of ischemia may be through alterations of glutamate receptor and CYP46A1 gene expression.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The novel coronavirus 2019-nCoV (now SARS-CoV-2) has spread globally and affected healthcare systems worldwide. Due to lack of long-term immunization and effective specific treatments for the COVID-19 disease, there is a need of identifying the patients who are at the risk of a fatal outcome, according to the available epidemiological data and laboratory parameters. OBJECTIVE Thus, we aimed to evaluate the prognostic value of epidemiological data and laboratory para-meters for in-hospital case fatality in patients with COVID-19. MATERIALS AND METHODS A retrospective cohort of patients with COVID-19 admitted to the Shahid Mostafa Khomeini Hospital of Ilam University of Medical Sciences from February 29 until March 29, 2020 was performed. Epidemiologic data and laboratory results were collected. Univariate and multivariate logistic regression models were performed to evaluate the prognostic value of the laboratory parameters for in-hospital death. RESULTS A total of 256 Iranian COVID-19 patients were included in the evaluation; 38 of them died, resulting in a in-hospital case-fatality rate of 14.8%. The univariate analysis showed that advanced age [OR=1.04, 95% CI: 1.02, 1.06, P=0.001], smoking [OR=4.041, 95% CI: 1.546-10.563, P=0.004], white blood cells [OR=0.941, 95% CI: 0.904-0.980, P =0.003] and hematocrit [OR=1.060, 95% CI: 1.009-1.113, P=0.020] were positively associated with the risk of a fatal outcome. Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that COVID-19 patients with an elevated white blood cell count and elevated hemoglobin level had 1% and 9% greater risk of an in-hospital death for each elevated unit [OR=1.07; 95 %CI: 1.024-1.088, P =0.002 and OR=1.379; 95% CI 0.064-1.788, P =0.015, respectively]. CONCLUSIONS An increase in white blood cell count and an increase in hemoglobin level might be indepen-dent risk factors for in-hospital death in Iranian patients with COVID-19. Further studies are necessary in order to conferm the prognostic value of the variables discussed.

Abstract
Vitamin and homocysteine (Hcy) alternations have been associated with psychiatric disorders. The aim of this meta-analysis was to assess the association of serum vitamin and Hcy levels with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). Following PRISMA protocol, we used the databases including Scopus, PubMed, Google Scholar, and Web of Science with no time restriction. Data were pooled using a random-effects model and/or fixed-effects model to estimate the standard mean difference (SMD) for evaluation of the strength of association analyses. Our data showed a significant reduction in vitamin B12 (SMD = -0.58, 95% CI = -1.08 to -0.08, p = 0.02, I2 = 65%; pheterogeneity = 0.06), vitamin E (SMD = -0.89, 95% CI = -1.23 to -0.56, p < 0.00001, I2 = 23%; pheterogeneity = 0.26), and vitamin C (SMD = -1.40, 95% CI = -2.44 to -0.36, p = 0.008, I2 = 92%; pheterogeneity < 0.0001) in OCD patients. In addition, the findings showed significantly higher levels of Hcy (SMD = 1.11, 95% CI = [0.48, 1.75], p = 0.0006, I2 = 73%; ph = 0.02) in patients compared to controls. Also, our data showed that vitamin B9 and D levels are not associated with OCD (vitamin B9: SMD = -0.23, 95% CI = -1.01 to 0.55, p = 0.56, I2 = 88%; pheterogeneity < 0.0001; vitamin D: SMD = -0.63, 95% CI = -1.41 to 0.15, p = 0.11, I2 = 88%; pheterogeneity = 0.0002). Our findings support significant impacts of Hcy and vitamin B12, E, and C levels in OCD pathogenesis. This will be important for prevention and treatment of OCD. However, further studies are recommended to elucidate more accurate conclusions.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIM Preeclampsia (PE), a multifactorial disorder, is the main cause of maternal mortality and morbidity. Genetic polymorphisms in key proteins involved in the immune system may change the risk of PE risk. In this study, we examined the association of two rs2232365 and rs3761548 common polymorphisms of the FOXP3 immune response gene with PE susceptibility by a meta-analysis which was followed by an in-silico analysis. MATERIALS AND METHODS Through a systematic search in databases including PubMed, MEDLINE, Google Scholar, and Science Direct, we find eligible studies for meta-analysis. Some bioinformatics tools were used to detect the impact of rs2232365 and rs3761548 polymorphisms on the FOXP3 gene function. RESULTS Our data revealed that there is a significant association between rs3761548 polymorphism and decreased risk of PE. In addition, we observed a significant association between rs2232365 and increased risk of mild preeclampsia. Also, our bioinformatic analysis showed that both rs2232365 and rs3761548 polymorphisms could affect FOXP3 gene function. CONCLUSION Based on our findings, the rs3761548 genetic variation could be a protective factor against PE risk. While the rs2232365 polymorphism may be a genetic risk factor for mild preeclampsia. Therefore, as a preliminary study, these genetic variations could be considered molecular biomarkers for PE disorder.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Infertility is a major health problem, worldwide, which affects 10-15% of couples. About half a percent of infertility cases are related to male-related factors. Male infertility is a complex disease that is the result of various insults as lifestyle issues, genetics, and epigenetic factors. Idiopathic infertility is responsible for 30% of total cases. The genetic factors responsible for male infertility include chromosomal abnormalities, deletions of chromosome Y, and mutations and genetic variations of key genes. AREAS COVERED In this review article, we aim to narrate performed studies on polymorphisms of essential genes involved in male infertility including folate metabolizing genes, oxidative stress-related genes, inflammation, and cellular pathways related to spermatogenesis. Moreover, possible pathophysiologic mechanisms responsible for genetic polymorphisms are discussed. EXPERT OPINION Analysis and assessment of these genetic variations could help in screening, diagnosis, and treatment of idiopathic male infertility.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Chronic periodontitis (CP) is a common inflammatory disorder with a considerable impact of genetic variations in the interleukin family on predisposition to this disease. This study aimed to investigate the association between the -592C>A polymorphism of the interleukin 10 (IL-10) gene with CP risk in an Iranian population. This experimental study was followed by a meta-analysis and in silico examination. METHODS In a case-control study, 270 subjects, including 135 patients with CP and 135 healthy controls, were enrolled. The -592C>A genotyping was performed using the PCR-RFLP method. In the meta-analysis, valid databases were systematically searched to identify relevant studies. Pooled odds ratios (ORs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were computed to examine the association between -592C>A and CP. In silico analysis was conducted using bioinformatics tools to evaluate the impact of the -592C>A polymorphism on IL-10 gene function. RESULTS Our case-control study revealed a significant association between polymorphism and CP risk. Overall, we found significant associations between -592C>A genetic variation and CP and stratified meta-analysis. In silico analysis revealed that this polymorphism could change the pattern of the transcription binding site upstream of the IL-10 gene. It may also alter the hsa-miR-101-3p miRNA-targeted sequence upstream of IL-10. CONCLUSIONS Based on our results, the -592C>A variation in IL-10 may be a genetic risk factor for susceptibility to chronic periodontitis. However, further studies in different ethnicities and results adjusted for clinical and demographic characteristics are needed to obtain more accurate deductions.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Dyspepsia is a highly prevalent gastrointestinal problem. The present study was carried out to assess the prevalence of dyspepsia in Iran. METHODS The present study was registered at PROSPERO with the code CRD42019148610. It was carried out based on MOOSE and reporting was performed according to the PRISMA protocol. Systematic search of the literature was performed in July 2019 on international databases of PubMed/Medline, Web of Science (ISI), Cochrane Library, EBSCO, CINAHL, EMBASE, Scopus, Science Direct, and local databases as well as the Google Scholar search engine. Heterogeneity was evaluated using I2 and Chi-square tests. All analyses were done using Comprehensive Meta-Analysis software. RESULTS Overall, 14 studies with a sample size of 54,118 subjects entered in this meta-analysis. The prevalence of dyspepsia in Iran was 14.6% (95% CI: 9.6-21.7). Large heterogeneity was detected among studies (I2=99.62%, P<0.001). The prevalence of dysmotility-like, ulcer-like, and unspecified dyspepsia was estimated to be 9.7% (95% CI: 4.9-18.4), 12.1% (95% CI: 5.2-25.7) and 17.0% (95% CI: 7.8-33.4), respectively. The prevalence of dyspepsia in Iranian men and women was found at 11.1% (95% CI: 6.3-18.8) and 17.8% (95% CI: 10.0-29.7), respectively. CONCLUSION The prevalence of dyspepsia in Iran is relatively high. However, it is lower than global estimates.

Abstract
Background: Managing patients with Vascular Trauma (VT) is essential. This study aimed to determine the prevalence of VT and its related factors in Iran. Methods: This systematic review was performed by two skilled researchers. To access all the Persian and English articles on VT and its influencing factors (from 2000 to August 2019), in addition to Google Scholar search engine, other international databases, such as PubMed/ Medline, Scopus, Embase, Cochrane Library, Science Direct, Web of Science (ISI), and domestic databases, such as Magiran, IranDoc, National Library of Iran Organization, SID, and Barakatkns were used. Data analysis was conducted by MA (CMA) software. Results: The incidence of lower Lower Vascular Trauma (LVI) trauma was equal to 58.4 (95%CI: 41.1-73.8) (I2= 94.67, Q=112.57, P<0.001); the prevalence of upper LVI trauma was measured to be 31.5 (95%CI: 17.7-49.7) (I2=94.48, Q=108.70, P<0.001); the prevalence of penetrating trauma was calculated as 61.3 (95% CI: 49.5-71.9); the prevalence of ulnar nerve injury equaled 9.8 (95%CI: 2.8-28.6); the prevalence of radial nerve trauma was equal to 7.7 (95%CI: 1.2-35.4); the prevalence of death cases was reported as 12.3 (95%CI: 5.1-26.9); the prevalence of amputation rate was observed as 8.8 (95%CI: 5.7-13.4); the prevalence of fasciotomy rate was equal to 22.2 (95%CI: 13.2-34.5); the prevalence of complete artery cutting equaled 55.7 (95% CI: 35.4-74.3),and the prevalence of incomplete artery cutting was measured as 25.5 (95%CI: 12.1-45.9). Conclusion: According to the study results, VT has led to various complications in patients; thus, it is critical to provide the necessary conditions to preserve the patient’s life and prevent life-threatening complications. Such goals could be achieved by preventing this type of trauma and its related complications.

Abstract
Various molecular mechanisms are activated in neurons during ischemic stroke. Extracellular glutamate secretion into brain tissue causes neurotoxicity and brain damage. Excitatory amino acid transporter 3 (EAAT3) could remove the extracellular glutamate. Neuroprotective activity of oxytocin (OT) in ischemia of various tissues has been reported. This study investigates the neuroprotective effect of OT in an animal model of middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) and the possible role of EAAT3. Transient MCAO was performed as a model of ischemic stroke in male rats and then OT was administrated intra-nasally. Infarct volume was measured by 2, 3, 5-triphenyl tetrazolium chloride staining. Nissl staining method was performed for the evaluation of neuronal cell morphology. Immunohistochemistry assay was performed to analyze the EAAT3 expression in the ischemic region. OT significantly reduced the infarct volume in the cerebral cortex and striatum after ischemia (P< .05). In addition, OT reduces the number of neurons with pyknotic nuclei that are significantly increased in the ischemic region (P< .01) Immunohistochemistry results showed that although EAAT3 expression increased after ischemia, OT therapy increased EAAT3 expression further (P< .05). Therefore, increased EAAT3 expression could be one of the neuroprotective mechanisms of OT after MCAO.

Abstract
BACKGROUND We aimed to accumulate evidence that suggests the potential role of neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) in determining the prognostic factor for COVID-19 patients. METHODS A cohort of COVID-19 hospitalized patients at the Ilam University of Medical Sciences was analyzed. Logistic regression models were performed to identify the potential role of NLR in determining the prognostic factor for COVID-19 patients. RESULTS The total number of in-hospital mortality was 43/328 (13.1%). Multivariate analysis identified that there was a 26% higher risk of in-hospital death for each unit increase in NLR (Odds ratio [OR] = 1.08; 95% confidence interval [95% CI], 1.01 to 1.14; p = 0.0147). Multivariate analysis identified that there was an 8% higher risk of in-hospital death for each unit increase in NLR (Odds ratio [OR] = 1.08; 95% confidence interval [95% CI], 1.01 to 1.14; p = 0.0147). Compared with patients in the NLR < 5 group, the NLR of patients in the NLR ≥ 5 group had a 16-fold higher risk of mortality (OR = 16.04; 95% CI, 1.14 to 224.95; p = 0.0395) after adjustment for potential confounders. CONCLUSIONS NLR is an independent risk factor of mortality COVID-19 patients.

Abstract
Air pollution exposure is among the most prevalent reasons for environmentally-induced oxidative stress and inflammation, both of which are involved in the development and progression of central nervous system (CNS) diseases. Ultrafine particles (UFPs) plays an important role in global air pollution and the diesel exhaust particles (DEPs) are the most important component in this regard. There are more than 40 toxic air pollutants in diesel exhaust (DE), which is one of the main constituents of an environmental pollutant and including particulate matter (PM) especially UFPs. Thus, in this study, adult female and male NMRI mice were exposed to DEPs (350-400 μg/m3) for 14 weeks (6 h per day and 5 days per week). After 14 weeks of exposure, expression of pro-inflammatory cytokines (IL-1α, IL-1β, IL-6, TNF-α), nNOS, HO1, NR2A, and NR2B and malondialdehyde (MDA) level were analyzed in various brain regions such as the hippocampus (HI) and olfactory bulb (OB). Exposure to DEPs caused neuroinflammation and oxidative stress in female and male mice. That these effects observed in females were less pronounced than in male mice. The male mice emerged to be more susceptible significantly than the female mice to induced neuroinflammation following DEPs exposure. Also, our findings indicate that long term exposure to DEPs results in altered expression of hippocampal NMDA receptor subunits, and suggests that gender can play important role in the modulating susceptibility to neurotoxicity induced by DEPs exposure.

Abstract
One of the most frequent forms of dementia in neurological disorders is Alzheimer's disease (AD). It is a chronic neurodegenerative disease characterized by impaired learning and memory. Pathological symptoms as extracellular amyloid-beta (Aβ) plaques and intracellular accumulation of neurofibrillary tangles occur in AD. Due to the aging of the population and increased prevalence of AD, discovery of new therapeutic agents with the highest effectiveness and fewer side effect seems to be necessary. Numerous synthetic medicines such as tacrine, donepezil, galantamine, rivastigmine, memantine, glutathione, ascorbic acid, ubiquinone, ibuprofen, and ladostigil are routinely used for reduction of the symptoms and prevention of disease progression. Nowadays, herbal medicines have attracted popular attention for numerous beneficial effects with little side effects. Lavandula angustifolia, Ginkgo biloba, Melissa officinalis, Crocus sativus, Ginseng, Salvia miltiorrhiza, and Magnolia officinalis have been widely used for relief of symptoms of some neurological disorders. This paper reviews the therapeutic effects of phytomedicines with prominent effects against various factors implicated in the emergence and progression of AD.

Abstract
Impaired lipid profile is defined as abnormal plasma levels of low-density lipoprotein, triglycerides, and total cholesterol. This disease state is associated with the development and progression of various disorders, such as diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular diseases, and acute myocardial infarction. Globally, all of these disorders are related to a significant rate of death. Therefore, finding a suitable approach for the prevention and treatment of lipid profile-related disorders is in the spotlight. Recently, herbal therapy has been considered a promising therapeutic approach for the treatment of hyperlipidemia or its related disorders due to its safety and efficacy. Hereby, we address the potential benefits of some of these herbal compounds on different aspects of lipid profile and its abnormalities with a special focus on their underlying mechanisms. Using herbal products, such as teas and mushrooms, or their derivatives, Rosmarinus officinalis Linn, Curcuma longa, Green tea, Lippia triphylla, Lippia citriodora, Plantago asiatica L, Vine tea, and Grifola frondosa have been proved to exert several therapeutic impacts on lipid profile and its related disorders, and we would provide a brief review on them in this literature.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Numerous cases of pneumonia caused by coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) were reported in Wuhan, China. Chest computed tomography (CT) scan is highly important in the diagnosis and follow-up of lung disease treatment. The present meta-analysis was performed to evaluate chest CT scan findings in COVID-19 patients. MATERIAL AND METHODS All research steps were taken according to the Meta-Analysis of Observational Studies In Epidemiology (MOOSE) protocol and the final report was based on Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. We registered this review at the International Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews (PROSPERO, CRD42019127858). RESULTS Forty eligible studies including 4598 patients with COVID-19 were used for meta-analysis. The rate of positive chest CT scan in patients with COVID-19 was 94.5% (95% CI: 91.7-96.3). Bilateral lung involvement, pure ground-glass opacity (GGO), mixed (GGO pulse consolidation or reticular), consolidation, reticular, and presence of nodule findings in chest CT scan of COVID-19 pneumonia patients were respectively estimated to be 79.1% (95% CI: 70.8-85.5), 64.9% (95% CI: 54.1-74.4), 49.2% (95% CI: 35.7-62.8), 30.3% (95% CI: 19.6-43.6), 17.0% (95% CI: 3.9-50.9) and 16.6% (95% CI: 13.6-20.2). The distribution of lung lesions in patients with COVID-19 pneumonia was peripheral (70.0% [95% CI: 57.8-79.9]), central (3.9% [95% CI: 1.4-10.6]), and peripheral and central (31.1% [95% CI: 19.5-45.8]). The pulmonary lobes most commonly involved were the right lower lobe (86.5% [95% CI:57.7-96.8]) and left lower lobe (81.0% [95% CI: 50.5-94.7]). CONCLUSIONS The most important outcomes in chest CT scan of patients with COVID-19 pneumonia were bilateral lung involvement, GGO or mixed (GGO pulse consolidation or reticular) patterns, thickened interlobular septa, vascular enlargement, air bronchogram sign, peripheral distribution, and left and right lower lobes involvement. Our study showed that chest CT scan has high sensitivity in the diagnosis of COVID-19, and may therefore serve as a standard method for diagnosis of COVID-19.

Abstract
This study aimed to examine the expression of the genes associated with different development stages of primordial germ cells (PGCs) in differentiating mouse embryonic stem cells (mESCs). The cells were cultured in three groups of control, 10-8 M of all-trans retinoic acid and the combination of 10-7 M of Progesterone and retinoic acid for 7, 12, 17, and 22 days. Immunofluorescent and Quantitative RT-PCR were used to evaluate the effect of progesterone on the differentiation of mESCs into primordial germ cells. RA-treated cells exhibited increased expression of Fragilis, Stella, Dazl, Stra8, Sycp3, and Gdf9 genes and decreased expression of Oct4, Mvh genes compared to the non-treated controls. Furthermore, RA in combination with progesterone (RA?P) led to increased expression of Oct4, Fragilis, Stella, Dazl, Sycp3, Gdf9 and decreased expression of Mvh, and Stra8 genes compared to the RA-treated scenario. Immunofluorescence detection of Stella and Mvh showed that the expression levels of the cells treated with RA+P are much higher than those of the other groups. Our project showed that under the influence of the induced factors, mESCs can spontaneously differentiate into germ cells. Also, the combination of RA+P can enhance and accelerate the differentiation of mESCs into germ cells.

Abstract
Antioxidant enzymes such as glutathione S-transferases (GSTs) and cytochromes P450 (CYPs) are involved in the metabolism and detoxification of cytotoxic compounds, as well as the elimination of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Therefore, alterations in the structure of these enzymes could result in prolonged production of ROS with subsequent risk of development of disorders such as presbycusis. This study aimed to investigate the association between CYP1A1 (rs4646903, rs1048943) and GSTs (GSTM1-deletion, GSTT1-deletion, GSTP1-rs1695) with presbycusis risk in an Iranian population which was followed by an in silico approach. In a case-control study, 280 subjects including 140 cases with presbycusis and 140 healthy controls were enrolled. Genotypes of single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were detected by PCR-RFLP method and the genotype of the above mentioned deletions was determined by touchdown PCR. Some bioinformatics tools were employed to evaluate the impact of SNPs on the gene function. SNP analysis revealed that there are significant associations between rs1048943 (AG vs. AA: OR = 2.46, 95%CI = 1.30-4.65, p = 0.006; GG + AG vs. AA: OR = 2.53, 95%CI = 1.36-4.69, p = 0.003; G vs. A: OR = 2.36, 95%CI = 1.33-4.17, p = 0.003) and rs4646903 (C vs. T: OR = 1.45, 95%CI = 1.02-2.06, p = 0.040) variations and increased risk of presbycusis. However, there was no significant association between rs1695 and presbycusis risk. Also, significant associations were observed between GSTM1 (OR = 4.28, 95%CI = 1.18-15.52, p = 0.027) and GSTT1 (OR = 1.64, 95%CI = 1.02-2.65, p = 0.041) deletions and elevated risk of presbycusis. Moreover, the combination analysis revealed a significant association between GSTM1+/GSTT1- genotype and presbycusis susceptibility (OR = 1.63, 95%CI = 1.00-2.67, p = 0.049). In silico analysis revealed that the rs1048943 SNP could influence significantly on the RNA structure of CYP1A1 (distance: 0.1454; p value: 0.1799). Based on our findings, the rs4646903, rs1048943 SNPs as well as GSTM1 and GSTT1 deletions could be considered as genetic risk factors for the development and progression of presbycusis.

The magnetically isolable nanobiocomposites have significant impact as the modified new generation catalysts in recent days. Bigua-CS could be introducing polysaccharide materials as potential coating agent to immobilizing and stabilizing metal nanoparticles. The material was characterized using several advanced techniques like fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), inductively coupled plasma (ICP), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX), atomic mapping, high resolution transmission electron microscopy (HR-TEM), vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). Towards the chemical applications of the material, we headed the multicomponent synthesis of diverse propargylamines by A3 coupling in water, which ended up with excellent yields. Due to strong paramagnetism, the catalyst was easily isolable and reused in 9cycles without any leaching and considerable change in reactivity. In addition, the catalyst was engaged in biological assays like study of anti-oxidant properties by DPPH mediated free radical scavenging test using BHT as a reference molecule. Thereafter, on having a significant IC50 value in radical scavenging assay, we extended the bio-application of the catalyst in anticancer study of adenocarcinoma cells of human lungs. The three different cancer cell lines, PC-14, LC-2/ad and HLC-1 were used in this regard. The best result was achieved in the case of PC-14 cell line with strong IC50 values.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), which leads to acid reflux into the esophagus, is a common gastrointestinal disorder. Several studies have shown the prevalence of GERD in Iranian population, but their evidence is contradictory. Therefore, the present study was conducted to investigate the epidemiology of GERD in Iran. METHODS The entire steps of this systematic review and meta-analysis were based on the MOOSE protocol, and the results were reported accordance with the PRISMA guideline. This review is registered on PROSPERO (registration number: CRD42020142861). To find potentially relevant published articles, comprehensive search was done on international online databases Scopus, Science Direct, EMBASE, PubMed/Medline, CINAHL, EBSCO, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, Iranian online databases and the Google Scholar search engine in June 2019. Cochran test and I2 index were used to assess the heterogeneity of the studies. Data were analyzed using Comprehensive Meta-Analysis software ver. 2. The significance level of the test was considered to be P < 0.05. RESULTS The daily, weekly, monthly, and overall prevalence of GERD symptoms in Iranian population was 5.64% (95%CI [confidence interval]: 3.77-8.35%; N = 66,398), 12.50% (95%CI: 9.63-16.08%; N = 110,388), 18.62% (95%CI: 12.90-26.12%; N = 70,749) and 43.07% (95%CI: 35.00-51.53%; N = 73,189), respectively. The daily, weekly, monthly, and overall prevalence of heartburn in Iranian population was 2.46% (95%CI: 0.93-6.39%; N = 18,774), 9.52% (95%CI: 6.16-14.41%; N = 54,125), 8.19% (95%CI: 2.42-24.30%; N = 19,363) and 23.20% (95%CI: 13.56-36.79%; N = 26,543), respectively. The daily, weekly, monthly, and overall prevalence of regurgitation in Iranian population was 4.00% (95%CI: 1.88-8.32%; N = 18,774), 9.79% (95%CI: 5.99-15.60%; N = 41,140), 13.76% (95%CI: 6.18-44.31%; N = 19,363) and 36.53% (95%CI: 19.30-58.08%; N = 21,174), respectively. The sensitivity analysis for prevalence of all types GERD, heartburn and regurgitation symptoms by removing a study showed that the overall estimate is still robust. CONCLUSION The present meta-analysis provides comprehensive and useful information on the epidemiology of GERD in Iran for policy-makers and health care providers. This study showed a high prevalence of GERD in Iran. Therefore, effective measures on GERD-related factors such as lifestyle can be among the health policies of Iran.

Abstract
Genetic polymorphisms in the methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) gene may alter the risk of breast cancer. This study aimed to investigate the association of MTHFR C677T and A1298C genetic polymorphisms with breast cancer risk in case-control studies which was followed by stratified analysis. In the case-control study, 300 subjects including 150 women with breast cancer and 150 healthy women were enrolled. After blood sample collection, the C677T and A1298C polymorphisms genotyping were done by the PCR-RFLP method. Our data revealed a significant association between MTHFR C677T and A1298C polymorphisms and breast cancer risk. But, as a preliminary study, stratified analysis revealed no significant association between C677T and A1298C polymorphisms and tumor size and also lymph node metastasis in breast cancer. According to the mentioned findings, the C677T and A1298C polymorphisms in the MTHFR gene could be molecular risk factors for breast cancer in our studied population. However, further studies with larger sample sizes are required to obtain a more accurate conclusion in stratified analysis.

Abstract
This study aimed to investigate the association between glutathione S-transferase (GST) M1 and T1 null genotypes and thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS), total antioxidant capacity (TAC) and nitric oxide (NO) levels in male infertility. For this purpose, semen samples were collected from fertile and infertile subjects, and then they were genotyped for GSTT1 and GSTM1 genes using multiplex-PCR. The TBARS, TAC and NO levels in seminal plasma were then measured via the ferric-reducing ability of plasma (FRAP). A significant association was observed between GSTT1 null genotype and oligozoospermia, asthenozoospermia and teratozoospermia. But, the GSTM1 null genotype was merely associated with teratozoospermia. Moreover, the GSTT1-/GSTM1+ combined genotype was associated with all subgroups of male infertility. Besides, an association was observed between GSTT1-/GSTM1- genotype and asthenozoospermia and teratozoospermia. Further analysis showed that the GSTT1 null genotype was associated with increased NO in asthenozoospermia. Also, the GSTT1 null genotype was associated with increased TBARS in oligozoospermia and asthenozoospermia. As well, GSTM1 null genotype was associated with decreased TAC and increased NO in asthenozoospermia respectively. As a preliminary conclusion, the GSTM1 and GSTT1 null genotypes could be considered as genetic risk factors for male infertility, interfering with some oxidative stress markers in infertile men.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The relationship between metabolic syndrome (MetS) and Barrett's esophagus (BE) is still a challenging issue, and inconsistent results have been reported in different studies. Therefore, this study was conducted to determine the relationship between MetS and BE. METHODS In this study, we followed the MOOSE protocol and results were reported according to the PRISMA guidelines. All study steps were performed independently by two authors. If necessary, the dispute was resolved by consultation with a third author. The search strategy is designed to find published studies. Comprehensive search was done in the following databases until July 2019: Cochrane Library, PubMed/Medline, Web of Science, Science Direct, EMBASE, Scopus, CINAHL, EBSCO, and Google Scholar search engine. All analyses were performed using Comprehensive Meta-Analysis Software Ver.2, while p-value lower than 0.05 was considered significant. RESULTS In 14 studies with a sample size of 108,416, MetS significantly increased the risk of BE (OR = 1.354; 95% CI: 1.145-1.600; P < 0.001; Heterogeneity: I2 = 81.95%; P < 0.001). Sensitivity analysis by omitting one study showed that overall estimates are still robust. Subgroup analysis was significant for continent (P < 0.001) and MetS diagnostic criteria (P = 0.043), but was not significant for variables of study type (P = 0.899), study setting (P = 0.115), control groups (P = 0.671) and quality of studies (P = 0.603). The Begg (P = 0.912) and Egger's (P = 0.094) tests were not significant; therefore, the publication bias did not play a role in the results. CONCLUSION MetS increases the risk of BE compared to control groups. The results of this study can help health practitioners by identifying a treatable risk factor for the most important risk factor for esophageal carcinoma (ie, BE). Future studies should examine whether treatment for MetS reduces the risk of BE.

Abstract
Several complex rearrangements such as deletions in mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) have been identified in sperm deficiencies. This study aimed to investigate the association of common mtDNA deletions with male infertility using a meta-analysis approach. Standard databases were systematically searched to discover relevant studies. Pooled odds ratios (ORs) with corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CI) were estimated to analyze the association of mtDNA deletions with male infertility. Our data revealed a significant association between a common 4977-bp deletion and an increased risk of male infertility. A similar association was observed in an Asian population. Stratified analysis by infertility phenotype showed significant associations between the 4977-bp deletion and increased risk of asthenozoospermia, oligoasthenoteratozoospermia, and asthenoteratozoospermia. In addition, significant associations were found in studies with sample sizes >100, age of participants <45 years, subject selection according to WHO criteria, and studies of moderate to high quality. Regarding the other common mtDNA deletions, significant associations were observed between 7436-bp, 7599-bp, and 4866-bp deletions and the risk of male infertility. Our findings suggest that the 4977-bp deletion might be a risk factor for male infertility, especially in an ethnic and infertility phenotype dependent manner.

Abstract
Objective In this study, we evaluated the effects of promoter methylation of MTHFR on oligozoospermia risk, followed by an
in silico analysis.
Materials and Methods In a case-control study, semen samples were collected from infertile and healthy control men.
MTHFR promoter region was amplified by methylation-specific polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Finally, the promoter
region of MTHFR was analyzed by bioinformatics software.
Results Our data revealed significant associations of CpG island promoter methylation with oligozoospermia in a
case-control study. In silico analysis showed that promoter contains a strong nucleosome exclusion region, a bonafide
CGIs, six PROSITE motifs without a defined TATA box and 14 transcription factor (TF) binding sites, which are directly
involved in spermatogenesis
Conclusion Based on our findings, methylation of the MTHFR gene promoter region may be a risk factor for
oligozoospermia. However, this is a preliminary report representing data for future comprehensive studies to make
a clinical conclusion on the potential biomarker role of methylation of this promoter in elevating susceptibility to
oligozoospermia.

Abstract
ATP-binding cassette transporter A1 (ABCA1) has a crucial role in removing intracellular cholesterol and plays a protective role against atherosclerosis. Therefore, genetic polymorphisms in this gene may alter the susceptibility to coronary artery disease (CAD). This study was aimed to examine the association of rs2230806 (c.1051 G > A; p.R219K) variation in the ABCA1 gene with CAD in a case-control design which was followed by a meta-analysis and in silico approach. In the case-control study, 300 subjects including 150 individuals with CAD and 150 healthy controls were recruited. The c.1051 G > A genotyping was done by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism method. In the meta-analysis, eligible studies were collected from PubMed, Google Scholar, and ScienceDirect databases and pooled odds ratio, heterogeneity, publication bias, and sensitivity analyses were carried. Finally, some bioinformatics tools were employed to assess the impacts of p.R219K variation on ABCA1 protein structure. Our case-control examination showed a statistically significant association between c.1051 G > A genetic polymorphism and CAD risk. In addition, the meta-analysis showed reliable significant associations between c.1051 G > A transition and risk of CAD in the Caucasian population. In silico analysis showed that the p.R219K substitution could alter the secondary structure, hydrophobicity pattern, and Ramachandran plot of ABCA1. These findings elucidate that the c.1051 G > A variation could be a genetic risk factor for CAD and it could be considered as a prognostic and predictive biomarker for susceptible individuals.

Abstract
Infertility is a global health problem involving about 15% of couples. Approximately half of the infertility cases are related to male factors. The oxidative stress, which refers to an imbalance in levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and antioxidants, is one of the main causes of infertility in men. A small amount of ROS is necessary for the physiological function of sperm including the capacitation, hyperactivation and acrosomal reaction. However, high levels of ROS can cause infertility through not only by lipid peroxidation or DNA damage but inactivation of enzymes and oxidation of proteins in spermatozoa. Oxidative stress (OS) is mainly caused by factors associated with lifestyle. Besides, immature spermatozoa, inflammatory factors, genetic mutations and altering levels of sex hormones are other main source of ROS. Since OS occurs due to the lack of antioxidants and its side effects in semen, lifestyle changes and antioxidant regimens can be helpful therapeutic approaches to overcome this problem. The present study aimed to describe physiological ROS production, roles of genetic and epigenetic factors on the OS and male infertility with various mechanisms such as lipid peroxidation, DNA damage, and disorder of male hormone profile, inflammation, and varicocele. Finally, the roles of oral antioxidants and herbs were explained in coping with OS in male infertility.

Abstract
This research aimed to explore the impacts of retinoic acid (RA)/17β-estradiol (E) induction and embryoid body formation to enhance differentiation of mouse-induced pluripotent stem cells (miPSCs) into male germ cells in vitro. Flow cytometry and qPCR were conducted to describe miPSCs differentiation process. Various temporal expression profiles of germ cell-related genes were traced. Stra8 gene expression increased in the RA group on the 4th day compared to other groups. The RA group experienced a more significant increase than E group. The expression of Sycp3 increased in RA + E group on 4th day compared with other groups. Expression of AKAP3 enhanced in the RA + E group than other groups on day 4. Moreover, miPSCs showed that this gene expression in the RA + E group was increased in comparison to RA and E groups on day 7. AKAP3 gene expression on day 7 of miPSCs decreased in RA and E groups. Flow cytometry data indicated that 3%-8% of the cells in sub-G1 stage were haploid after RA and E induction compared to other groups on day 4. This study showed that miPSCs possess the power for differentiating into male germ cells in vitro via formation of embryoid body by RA with/or E induction.

Abstract
Numerous reagents were employed for differentiating induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) into male germ cells; however, the induction procedure was ineffective. The aim of this study was to improve the in vitro differentiation of mice iPSCs (miPSCs) into male germ cells with retinoic acid (RA) and progesterone (P). miPSCs were differentiated to embryoid bodies (EBs) in suspension with RA with or without progesterone for 0, 4, and 7 days. Then, the expression of certain genes at different stages of male germ cell development including Ddx4 (pre meiosis), Stra8 (meiosis), AKAP3 (post meiosis), and Mvh protein was examined in RNA and/or protein levels by real-time polymerase chain reaction or flow cytometry, respectively. The Stra8 gene expression increased in the RA groups on all days. But, expression of this gene declined in RA + P groups. In addition, an increased expression of Ddx4 gene was observed on day 0 in the P group. Also, a significant upregulation was observed in the expression of AKAP3 gene in the RA + P group on days 0 and 4. However, gene expression decreased in P and RA groups on day 7. The expression of Mvh protein significantly increased in the RA group on day 7. The Mvh expression was also enhanced in the P group on day 4, but it decreased on day 7, while this protein upregulated on day 0 and 7 in the RA + P group. The miPSCs have the capacity for in vitro differentiation into male germ cells by RA and/or progesterone. However, the effects of these inducers depend on the type of combination and an effective time.

Abstract
Ischemic stroke is a major common cause of death and long-term disability worldwide. Several pathophysiological events including excitotoxicity, oxidative/nitrative stress, inflammation, and apoptosis are involved in ischemic injuries. Recently, the molecular mechanisms involved in cerebral ischemia through a focus on a member of small heat shock proteins family, Hsp27, has been developed. Notably, following exposure to ischemia, Hsp27 expression in the brain could be increased rather than the normal condition and it may play an important role in neuroprotection after ischemic stroke. The neuroprotection effects of Hsp27 may arise from its anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-apoptotic, and chaperonic properties. Moreover, some therapeutic strategies such as stem cell therapy and pharmacotherapy have been developed with Hsp27 targeting. In this review, we describe the function and structure of Hsp27 and its possible role in neuroprotection after ischemic stroke. Finally, we present current studies in stroke therapy, which focused on Hsp27 targeting.

Abstract
Background & Objective Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) is the second most common non-melanoma skin cancer that may be caused by Human papillomavirus (HPV), especially in immunosuppressed patients. However, the role of the mucosal types of HPV in SCC patients with normal immunity has not been extensively confirmed. The aim of this study was to investigate the association of some high-risk mucosal types of HPV with cutaneous SCC in an Iranian population. Methods Sixty-five formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue specimens with a diagnosis of cutaneous SCC as the case group and sixty-five healthy skin specimens as the control group were included in our case-control study. Genomic DNA was extracted from tissue samples and then PCR was used for the detection of HPV genotypes by a commercial kit. Results Our data revealed that 6 out of 65 SCC samples (9.2%) were infected by high-risk mucosal types of HPV whereas none of the 65 control samples were infected by the mentioned HPVs. Statistical analysis showed a significant association between these types of HPV infection and SCC risk in our studied population (P=0.028). Conclusion These findings suggested that some high-risk mucosal types of HPV are significant risk factors for cutaneous SCC.

Abstract
This study aimed to investigate the therapeutic effects of intranasal administration of human endometrium-derived stem cells (HEDSCs) in the mouse model of Parkinson's disease (PD). Thirty days after intrastriatal injection of 6-OHDA, HEDSCs were administrated intranasally in three doses (104, 5 × 104 and 105 cells µl-1). During 120 days after stem cell administration, behavioral tests were examined. Then the mice were sacrificed and the fresh section of the substantia nigra pars compacta (SNpc) was used for detection of HEDSCs-GFP labeled by fluorescence microscopy method. In addition, immunohistochemistry was used to assay GFP, human neural Nestin, and tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) markers in the fixed brain tissue at the SNpc. Our data revealed that behavioral parameters were significantly improved after cell therapy. Fluorescence microscopy assay in fresh tissue and GFP analysis in fixed tissue were showed that the HEDSCs-GFP labeled migrated to SNpc. The data from immunohistochemistry revealed that the Nestin as a differential neuronal biomarker was expressed in SNpc. Also, TH as a dopaminergic neuron marker significantly increased after HEDSCs therapy in an optimized dose 5 × 104 cells µl-1. Our results suggest that intranasal administration of HEDSCs improve the PD symptoms in the mouse model of PD dose-dependent manner as a noninvasive method.

Abstract
Models of learning typically focus on synaptic plasticity. However, learning is the result of both synaptic and myelin plasticity. Specifically, synaptic changes often co-occur and interact with myelin changes, leading to complex dynamic interactions between these processes. Here, we investigate the implications of these interactions for the coupling behavior of a system of Kuramoto oscillators. To that end, we construct a fully connected, one-dimensional ring network of phase oscillators whose coupling strength (reflecting synaptic strength) as well as conduction velocity (reflecting myelination) are each regulated by a Hebbian learning rule. We evaluate the behavior of the system in terms of structural (pairwise connection strength and conduction velocity) and functional connectivity (local and global synchronization behavior). We find that adaptive myelination is able to both functionally decouple structurally connected oscillators as well as to functionally couple structurally disconnected oscillators. With regard to the latter, we find that for conditions in which a system limited to synaptic plasticity develops two distinct clusters both structurally and functionally, additional adaptive myelination allows for functional communication across these structural clusters. These results confirm that network states following learning may be different when myelin plasticity is considered in addition to synaptic plasticity, pointing toward the relevance of integrating both factors in computational models of learning.

Abstract
Survivin is a member of the family of apoptosis inhibitory proteins with increased expression level in most cancerous tissues. Evidence shows that survivin plays regulatory roles in proliferation or survival of normal adult cells, principally vascular endothelial cells, T lymphocytes, primitive hematopoietic cells, and polymorphonuclear neutrophils. Survivin antiapoptotic role is, directly and indirectly, related to caspase proteins and shows its role in cell division through the chromosomal passenger complex. Survivin contains many genetic polymorphisms that the role of some variations has been proven in several cancers. The -31G/C polymorphism is one of the most important survivin mutations which is located in the promoter region on a CDE/CHR motif. This polymorphism can upregulate the survivin messenger RNA. In addition, its allele C can increase the risk of cancers in 1.27-fold than allele G. Considering the fundamental role of survivin in different cancers, this protein could be considered as a new therapeutic target in cancer treatment. For this purpose, various strategies have been designed including the prevention of survivin expression through inhibition of mRNA translation using antagonistic molecules, inhibition of survivin gene function through small inhibitory molecules, gene therapy, and immunotherapy. In this study, we describe the structure, played roles in physiological and pathological states and genetic polymorphisms of survivin. Finally, the role of survivin as a potential target in cancer therapy given challenges ahead has been discussed.
