Prevalence of burnout and practice-related risk factors among Saudi Board dental residents using the Copenhagen Burnout Inventory: A survey-based cross-sectional study

Occupational burnout is a chronic psychological problem affecting professionals. The aim of this study was to assess the types and categories of burnout among Saudi Dental board residents at different levels of residency in different provinces of Saudi Arabia, using the Copenhagen Burnout Inventory. Questionnaires were sent to 170 Saudi Dental board residents via Email and WhatsApp. at various training centers in Saudi Arabia, in May 2022. A part of the questionnaire covered the socio-demographic characteristics of the participants such as gender, training level or center, number of working sessions or hours per week and day, dental speciality, and marital status. The second part consisted of the Copenhagen Burnout Inventory survey with 21 questions. Only 110 participants returned the answered questions. The overall significant type of burnout was present in 46.3% of the respondents while 53.7%, were for free or minimal burnout. Personal, work-related, and patient-related burnout recorded 62%/38%; 40% to 60%, and 60%:40% for free or minimal to significant burnout. The overall burnout types of values were equal in both gender as well as training levels with no significant differences and P-values ≤ .05. Burnout values were close to each other among the participants in different specialties, except for orthodontics residents which were the least. Analysis of variance, followed by chi-square tests showed a significant difference among participants in different specialties in type and categories of burnout with P-values between .002 to .029. Finally, the burnout value was higher among married participants. Overall burnout types were marginally similar between genders and training levels, while the significant was slightly higher in females, married, highest training level, restorative, and prosthodontic speciality participants.

Influence of Different Luting Cements on the Shear Bond Strength of Pretreated Lithium Disilicate Materials

AIMS

The aim of the study was to examine the shear bond strength of different luting cements bonding to pre-treated lithium disilicate materials.

MATERIALS AND METHODS

Sixty A2 shade lithium disilicate discs were subjected to either micro-etch with aluminum trioxide and etching by 10% hydrofluoric acid (micro-etch group; n = 30); or etching with 10% hydrofluoric acid (acid-etch group; n = 30) before cementation. Three dual-cure Variolink Esthetic (VDC), RelyX Ultimate (RUT), and RelyX Unicem (RUC) and three light-cure Variolink Veneer (VV), Variolink Esthetic (VLE), RelyX Veneer (RV) resin cements were used for cementation. The specimens from each group were tested for shear bond strength (SBS). The data were analyzed using two-way ANOVA; p < 0.05 is considered statistically significant.

RESULTS

For all resin cements tested with different surface treatments, there was a statistically significant difference within resin cements per surface treatment (p < 0.05). The SBS in the micro-etch group was significantly higher across all the cements tested when compared to the acid-etch group (p < 0.05), thus suggesting that surface treatment affects the SBS largely irrespective of the resin cement. Their interaction between cement and the surface treatment was significantly different across groups (p < 0.001).

CONCLUSION

Under the limitations of the present study, it can be concluded that surface treatment influences the bond strength irrespective of the resin cement (light/dual-cure) used for indirect restorations' cementation. The shear bond strength in the sand blast/acid etch group was significantly higher across all the cements tested when compared to the acid-etch alone.

CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE

The surface treatment of porcelain veneer hugely influence the SBS, which will directly affect the veneer clinical success rate. The micro-etching recorded a higher shear bond strength when compared to those with acid-etch only.

The effect of surface treatment and thermocycling on the shear bond strength of porcelain laminate veneering material cemented with different luting cements

Aim: The study aimed to evaluate and compare the effect of different surface treatment and thermocycling on the shear bond strength (SBS) of different dual-/light-cure cements bonding porcelain laminate veneers (PLV). Methods: One hundred and twenty A2 shade lithium disilicate discs were divided into three groups based on the resin cement used and on the pretreatment received and then divided into two subgroups: thermocycling and control. The surface treatment were either micro-etched with aluminium trioxide and 10% hydrofluoric acid or etched with 10% hydrofluoric acid only before cementation. Three dual-cure (Variolink Esthetic (I), RelyX Ultimate (II), and RelyX Unicem (III)) and three light-cure (Variolink Veneer (IV), Variolink Esthetic (V), RelyX Veneer (VI)) resin cements were used for cementation. The SBS of the samples was evaluated and analysed using three -way ANOVA with statistical significant set at α=0.05. Results: For all resin cements tested with different surface treatments, there was a statistically significant difference within resin cements per surface treatment (p<0.05). The shear bond strength in the micro-etch group was significant higher than the acid-etch group (p<0.05) There was statistically significant interaction observed between the surface treatment and thermocycling (p<0.05) as well as the cement and thermocycling(p<0.05). It was observed that the reduction in shear bond strength after thermocycling was more pronounced in the acid etch subgroup as compared to the microetch subgroup. However, the interaction between the three factors: surface treatments, thermocycling and resin cements did not demonstrate statistically significant differences between and within groups (p=0.087). Conclusions: Within the limitations of the present study, it acan be concluded that Dual cure resin cements showed a higher Shear bond strength as compared to light cure resin cements. Thermal cycling significantly decreased the shear bond strength for both ceramic surface treatments. After thermocycling, the specimens with 10% HF surface treatment showed lower shear bond strength values when compared to those treated by sandblasting with Al2O3 particles.
