Abstract
INTRODUCTION Artificial intelligence is advancing in various domains, including medicine, and its progress is expected to continue in the future. OBJECTIVE This research aimed to assess the precision and consistency of ChatGPT's responses to commonly asked inquiries related to pediatric urology. MATERIALS AND METHODS We examined commonly posed inquiries regarding pediatric urology found on urology association websites, hospitals, and social media platforms. Additionally, we referenced the recommendations tables in the European Urology Association's (EAU) 2022 Guidelines on Pediatric Urology, which contained robust data at the strong recommendation level. All questions were systematically presented to ChatGPT's May 23 Version, and two expert urologists independently assessed and assigned scores ranging from 1 to 4 to each response. RESULTS A hundred thirty seven questions about pediatric urology were included in the study. The answers to questions resulted in 92.0% completely correct. The completely correct rate in the questions prepared according to the strong recommendations of the EAU guideline was 93.6%. No question was answered completely wrong. The similarity rates of the answers to the repeated questions were between 93.8% and 100%. CONCLUSION ChatGPT has provided satisfactory responses to inquiries related to pediatric urology. Despite its limitations, it is foreseeable that this continuously evolving platform will occupy a crucial position in the healthcare industry.

Abstract
PURPOSE ChatGPT is an artificial intelligence (AI) program with natural language processing. We analyzed ChatGPT's knowledge about urolithiasis whether it can be used to inform patients about urolithiasis. METHODS Frequently asked questions (FAQs) about urolithiasis on the websites of urological associations and hospitals were analyzed. Also, strong recommendation-level information was gathered from the urolithiasis section of the European Association of Urology (EAU) 2022 Guidelines. All questions were asked in order in ChatGPT August 3rd version. All answers were evaluated separately by two specialist urologists and scored between 1 and 4, where 1: completely correct, 2: correct but inadequate, 3: a mix of correct and misleading information, and 4: completely incorrect. RESULTS Of the FAQs, 94.6% were answered completely correctly. No question was answered completely incorrectly. All questions about general, diagnosis, and ureteral stones were graded as 1. Of the 60 questions prepared according to the EAU guideline recommendations, 50 (83.3%) were evaluated as grade 1, and 8 (13.3%) and 2 (3.3%) as grade 3. All questions related to general, diagnostic, renal calculi, ureteral calculi, and metabolic evaluation received the same answer the second time they were asked. CONCLUSION Our findings demonstrated that ChatGPT accurately and satisfactorily answered more than 95% of the questions about urolithiasis. We conclude that applying ChatGPT in urology clinics under the supervision of urologists can help patients and their families to have better understanding on urolithiasis diagnosis and treatment.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The internet and social media have become primary sources of health information, with men frequently turning to these platforms before seeking professional help. Chat generative pretrained transformer (ChatGPT), an artificial intelligence model developed by OpenAI, has gained popularity as a natural language processing program. The present study evaluated the accuracy and reproducibility of ChatGPT's responses to andrology-related questions. METHODS The study analyzed frequently asked andrology questions from health forums, hospital websites, and social media platforms like YouTube and Instagram. Questions were categorized into topics like male hypogonadism, erectile dysfunction, etc. The European Association of Urology (EAU) guideline recommendations were also included. These questions were input into ChatGPT, and responses were evaluated by 3 experienced urologists who scored them on a scale of 1 to 4. RESULTS Out of 136 evaluated questions, 108 met the criteria. Of these, 87.9% received correct and adequate answers, 9.3% were correct but insufficient, and 3 responses contained both correct and incorrect information. No question was answered completely wrong. The highest correct answer rates were for disorders of ejaculation, penile curvature, and male hypogonadism. The EAU guideline-based questions achieved a correctness rate of 86.3%. The reproducibility of the answers was over 90%. CONCLUSION The study found that ChatGPT provided accurate and reliable answers to over 80% of andrology-related questions. While limitations exist, such as potential outdated data and inability to understand emotional aspects, ChatGPT's potential in the health-care sector is promising. Collaborating with health-care professionals during artificial intelligence model development could enhance its reliability.

Abstract
Cystic echinococcosis (CE) of the bone is a rare disease compared with CE of the viscera, and the most involved bony structures are the spine and the pelvis. Both the diagnosis and the treatment of bone CE are challenging for several reasons. The combination of surgery and antimicrobial therapy is the most common approach, the results are far from adequate. Luckily, percutaneous treatment has appeared on the horizon for bone lesions as a more practical option with fewer drawbacks in light of current reports. This article deals with the successful result of ablation-assisted percutaneous treatment of a bone CE lesion and a soft tissue CE lesion treated by modified catheterization technique in a male patient with left hip pain that was unresponsive to previous surgery for CE.

Abstract
Cystic echinococcosis (CE) may be encountered in almost every site of the body, but bone involvement is relatively rare. The vertebral column and pelvis are the most affected areas. The combined medical and surgical approach is the main treatment option in current literature. Although percutaneous treatment of CE cysts located in the liver, spleen, kidney, and soft tissues has become a serious alternative to surgery, there is no bone CE cyst treated percutaneously in the literature. This case report aims to point out that percutaneous treatment can be an effective treatment choice and alternative to surgery.

Abstract
A 53-year-old woman was admitted to the emergency department with sudden onset of massive hemoptysis. She had previous history of dyspnea and cough for two months. She had no history of chronic disease, smoking, or use of anticoagulant and antiplatelet drugs. On arrival, she was tachycardic and tachypneic, but her body temperature was normal. Chest X-ray showed enlarged right hilus and multiple nodular opacities predominantly in the left lung basis. Computed tomography (CT) scan of the chest demonstrated massive intraluminal filling defect extending from the right pulmonary artery through the main and left pulmonary arteries. Pulmonary artery sarcoma (PAS) was the preliminary imaging-based diagnosis. However, CT also revealed presence of several pseudoaneurysms arising from the distal branches of the left pulmonary artery encased by metastatic nodules. Although hemoptysis is an uncommon presentation for patients with PAS, accompanied pseudoaneurysms were the main reason for massive hemoptysis. Differentiation of PAS from bland thromboembolism could be challenging on CT. Herein reported case provides an additional imaging feature that may utilize differentiating pulmonary artery sarcoma from bland thrombus.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To report three cases of severe skin reactions in patients treated with cladribine for multiple sclerosis. METHODS Case study. RESULTS Patients developed severe rash 3-192 days after receiving cladribine. All were effectively treated with steroids and antihistamines. Additional doses of cladribine were administered after pretreatment with steroids and anti-histamines. One patient developed mild recurrence following re-exposure, which resolved within three days, whilst another patient tolerated re-exposure without further adverse reaction. CONCLUSION Severe skin reactions, well described in patients receiving cladribine for treatment of haematological conditions, may occur in patients treated with this compound for multiple sclerosis. Neurologists need to be aware of this rare, but significant adverse reaction. Re-exposure may be safe with standard pre-treatment against allergic reactions.

Abstract
Potassium (K+ ) ion channel activity is an important determinant of vascular tone by regulating cell membrane potential (MP). Activation of K+ channels leads to membrane hyperpolarization and subsequently vasodilatation, while inhibition of the channels causes membrane depolarization and then vasoconstriction. So far five distinct types of K+ channels have been identified in vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs): Ca+2 -activated K+ channels (BKC a ), voltage-dependent K+ channels (KV ), ATP-sensitive K+ channels (KATP ), inward rectifier K+ channels (Kir ), and tandem two-pore K+ channels (K2 P). The activity and expression of vascular K+ channels are changed during major vascular diseases such as hypertension, pulmonary hypertension, hypercholesterolemia, atherosclerosis, and diabetes mellitus. The defective function of K+ channels is commonly associated with impaired vascular responses and is likely to become as a result of changes in K+ channels during vascular diseases. Increased K+ channel function and expression may also help to compensate for increased abnormal vascular tone. There are many pharmacological and genotypic studies which were carried out on the subtypes of K+ channels expressed in variable amounts in different vascular beds. Modulation of K+ channel activity by molecular approaches and selective drug development may be a novel treatment modality for vascular dysfunction in the future. This review presents the basic properties, physiological functions, pathophysiological, and pharmacological roles of the five major classes of K+ channels that have been determined in VSMCs.

Disease activity in progressive multiple sclerosis can be effectively reduced by cladribine. Mult Scler Relat Disord 2018; 24:20-27. Abstract
BACKGROUND Evidence suggests people with non-relapsing deteriorating ("progressive") multiple sclerosis (pwPMS) may benefit from disease-modifying immune therapy (DMT). However, only one such treatment (ocrelizumab) has been licensed and is highly restricted to pwPMS suffering from the primary progressive phenotype. The difficulties assessing treatment outcome in pwPMS is one important reason for the lack of respective DMT. The concentration of neurofilaments in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) provides a biomarker of neuro-axonal damage, and both neurofilament light (NfL) and heavy chain (NfH) levels have been used as outcome indices and to guide treatment choices. METHODS We report on two pwPMS, who were treated with subcutaneous cladribine undergoing CSF NfL testing, alongside MRI and clinical follow-up, before and after treatment. RESULTS Cladribine treatment was well tolerated without any side effects. CSF NfL after treatment revealed significant reduction (by 73% and 80%, respectively) corroborating the MRI detectable drop in disease activity. Disability mildly progressed in one, and remained stable in the other pwPMS. CONCLUSIONS pwPMS with detectable disease activity (MRI, elevated NfL) should be considered for DMT. NfL appears to be a sensitive index of treatment effect in pwPMS, and may be a useful outcome in clinical trials targeting this patient group. Over and above its licensed indication (relapsing MS), cladribine may be an effective treatment option for pwPMS.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Psoriasis is a common chronic inflammatory skin disease caused by genetic and epigenetic factors. There are conflicting results in the literature about the association between psoriasis and the methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase gene (MTHFR), ranging from strong linkage to no association. AIM To investigate the association between the germline MTHFR polymorphisms C677T and A1298C with psoriasis risk in a Turkish population. METHODS The study enrolled 84 patients with psoriasis and 212 healthy controls (HCs) without any history of psoriasis. DNA was extracted from peripheral blood samples of patients and HCs, and real-time PCR was used for genotyping. Results were compared by Pearson χ² test and multiple logistic regression models. RESULTS The frequency of both the MTHFR 677TT and A1298C (homozygous) genotypes was statistically significantly different from HCs. Point mutations were detected in all patients with early-onset psoriasis (before the age of 20 years). The T allele of MTHFR 677 and the C allele of MTHFR 1298 increased psoriasis risk by 12.4- and 17.0-fold, respectively, in patients compared with HCs. CONCLUSION A possible association was detected betweengermline MTHFR 677 C>T and 1298 A>C genotypes and psoriasis risk in a Turkish population. These results need to be confirmed in further studies with larger sample sizes.

Abstract
The vascular actions and mechanisms of taurine were investigated in the isolated human radial artery (RA). RA rings were suspended in isolated organ baths and tension was recorded isometrically. First, a precontraction was achieved by adding potassium chloride (KCl, 45 mM) or serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine, 5-HT, 30 µM) to organ baths. When the precontractions were stable, taurine (20, 40, 80 mM) was added cumulatively. Antagonistic effect of taurine on calcium chloride (10 µM to 10 mM)-induced contractions was investigated. Taurine-induced relaxations were also tested in the presence of the K+ channel inhibitors tetraethylammonium (1 mM), glibenclamide (10 µM) and 4-aminopyridine (1 mM). Taurine did not affect the basal tone but inhibited the contraction induced by 5-HT and KCl. Calcium chloride-induced contractions were significantly inhibited in the presence of taurine (20, 40, 80 mM) (p<0.05). The relaxation to taurine was inhibited by tetraethylammonium (p<0.05). However, glibenclamide and 4-aminopyridine did not affect taurine-induced relaxations. Present experiments show that taurine inhibits 5-HT and KCl-induced contractions in RA, and suggest that large conductance Ca2+-activated K+ channels may be involved in taurine-induced relaxation of RA.

Abstract
There are limited data regarding effect of trastuzumab on radiation-induced cardiovascular toxicity when used sequentially or concomitantly. This experimental study aims to investigate effect of trastuzumab on radiation-induced cardiovascular toxicity with respect to the treatment sequence. One hundred and eight female Wistar albino rats were divided into six groups (G): G1 was control, G2 was trastuzumab, and G3 was radiotherapy (RT); G4 and G6 were sequential RT and trastuzumab; and G5 was concomitant RT and trastuzumab groups, respectively. Rats were killed at 6th h, 21st and 70th days after RT; thoracic aorta and heart samples were obtained. Transthoracic echocardiography and functional studies evaluating relaxation of thoracic aorta were performed. Subendothelial edema scores of thoracic aorta samples at 21st and 70th days were higher in RT groups (G3, G4, G5, and G6) ( p < 0.001). There was a deterioration of relaxation responses of thoracic aorta samples in RT groups ( p < 0.001). Cardiac fibrosis (CF) scores revealed detrimental effect of RT beginning from 6th h and trastuzumab from 21st day. RT groups showed further deterioration of CF at 70th day. Ejection fraction, left ventricular mass, and fractional shortening were significantly decreased in G4, G5, and G6. Trastuzumab may increase pathological damage in cardiovascular structures when used with RT regardless of timing.

Abstract
The aim of this study is to assess cardiotoxic effect of testosterone (TES) and dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA) in Sprague Dawley rats. We compared the impact of subacute (14 days) and subchronic (90 days) administration of suprapharmacologic doses of TES and DHEA on body weight, locomotor activity, muscle strength, echocardiographic parameters, heart histopathology, and oxidative stress markers with the control group. Testosterone (10, 30, and 100 mg/100 g body weight) and DHEA (10 mg/100 g body weight) administration decreased the body weights and locomotor activity ( p < 0.05), and the combination of both increased muscle strength ( p < 0.05) in rats. In our histopathological evaluation, misshapen cell nuclei, disorganized myocardial fibers, and leukocytic infiltrates were observed in high-dose TES (100 mg/100 g)-treated rats, especially on day 14. On day 90, mild changes such as misshapen cell nuclei, disorganized myocardial fibers, and leukocytic infiltrates were observed in TES and DHEA-treated groups. According to our echocardiographic study on day 14 and day 90, TES, especially at high doses, induced increase in left ventricular posterior wall diameter and ejection fraction ( p < 0.05). In this study, blood oxidative stress marker malondialdehyde was increased slightly but not significantly in TES and DHEA groups. On the other hand, antioxidant enzymes such as SOD and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px) levels were slightly but not significantly increased in TES and DHEA groups. These data demonstrate that the potential risk to cardiac health due to exogenous androgen use may be related to oxidative stress in rats.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Taurine is an abundant amino acid that is widely distributed in human and animal tissues. Pharmacodynamic studies show that taurine has hypotensive and myocardial protective effects. Studies in isolated tissue baths show that taurine relaxes precontracted arteries. This study aimed to show the effects of taurine on human internal mammary artery (IMA) in vitro and to explain the mechanisms of its effects. METHODS The response in the IMA was recorded isometrically by a force displacement transducer in isolated organ baths. Taurine (20, 40, 80 mM) was added to organ baths after precontraction with KCl (45 mM) or serotonin (5-HT, 30 µM). Taurine-induced relaxations were also tested in the presence of the cyclooxygenase inhibitor indomethacin (10 µM), the nitric oxide synthase inhibitor L-NAME (100 µM), the large conductance Ca2+-activated K+ channel inhibitor tetraethylammonium (TEA, 1 mM), the ATP-sensitive K+ channel inhibitor glibenclamide (GLI, 10 µM), the voltage-sensitive K+ channel inhibitor 4-aminopyridine (4-AP, 1 mM) and the inward rectifier K+ channel inhibitor barium chloride (BaCl2, 30 µM). RESULTS Taurine did not affect the resting tone of IMA. However, it produced relaxation in the 5-HT and KCl -precontracted preparations. The relaxation to IMA was not affected by GLI, 4-AP, BaCl2, indomethacin and L-NAME. But, TEA inhibited taurine -induced relaxations significantly (p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS The preincubation of IMA with taurine antagonized KCl and 5-HT induced contractions in a concentration dependent manner, while it did not affect the resting tone. The relaxations to taurine were significantly antagonized by pretreatment with TEA. These results suggest that mechanism of vasodilator effect of taurine in IMA may be the activation of large conductance Ca2+-activated K+ channels.

Abstract
BACKGROUND-OBJECTIVE Several factors might affect the adherence to treatment in patients with asthma and COPD. Among these factors, the effect of religious beliefs and behaviours has been less studied so far. In this study, the effect of fasting on drug use behaviours of patients with asthma and COPD were comparatively analysed. METHODS A total of 150 adult patients with asthma and 150 adult patients with COPD were consecutively enrolled into this cross-sectional study. The patients were asked whether they fast during Ramadan and if the answer was yes, they were kindly asked to respond to further questions related to use of inhaled medications during that particular time. RESULTS The majority of the cases from both groups [98 (65.3%) of asthma patients and 139 (92.6%) of COPD] were fasting during Ramadan. The majority of the patients with COPD (n=126; 90.6%) reported that they quitted their regular therapy basis during Ramadan. On the other hand, the majority of asthma patients used their controller inhaled medications during Ramadan and preferred to use them on iftar and sahur times (n=81, 82.6%). CONCLUSION Our results showed that in a Muslim population, the patients with asthma and COPD do not feel their diseases to be an inhibitory factor for fasting during Ramadan. However, fasting seems to be an important determining factor in medication compliance by modifying the drug use behaviours in each group in a different way. Therefore, the patients should be informed about the effects of fasting on their disease and the allowed drugs during fasting.

Abstract
Monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitors are generally used in the treatment of depressive disorders and some neurodegenerative illnesses, such as Parkinson's disease and Alzheimer's disease. The aim of this preliminary study was to investigate the MAO [MAO (E.C.1.4.3.4)] inhibiting effect of various apitherapeutic products, such as chestnut honey, pollen and propolis. Extracts' MAO inhibition was measured using peroxidase-linked spectrophotometric assay in enzyme isolated from rat liver microsomes, and the values are expressed as the inhibition concentration (IC50) causing 50% inhibition of MAO. The antioxidant activity of the bee products was also determined in terms of total phenolic content (TPC) and ferric reducing/antioxidant power in aquatic extracts. All samples exhibited substantial inhibition of MAO, propolis having the highest. Inhibition was related to samples' TPCs and antioxidant capacities. These results show that bee products possess a sedative effect and may be effective in protecting humans against depression and similar diseases.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES We researched the survival of bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and the results of MSCs' injected into decompensated bladders in a rabbit model. METHODS Partial bladder neck obstruction (PBNO) and subsequent decompensation of the bladder was achieved by wrapping the bladder neck with autologous rectus fascia. In the first aspect of the experiment 18 rabbits underwent MSC injection into the decompensated bladder to prove the survivability of injected MSCs. For this purpose MSCs were isolated, transfected with Green Fluorescent Protein (GFP), and injected into the detrusor layer. Once viability was assessed in the first phase, an additional 10 rabbits underwent PBNO in the second phase. Five of these animals underwent subsequent MSC injection (group 3, stem cell) and 5 did not (group 2, obstruction). Both groups were compared to 5 controls (group 1). Urodynamics were performed in all groups. After the animals were sacrificed the groups were compared via morphometric analysis, contractile response to carbachol and KCl, and muscarinic receptor type analysis. RESULTS On morphometric analysis, collagenous area rates were 43, 53 and 37% in group 1, 2 and 3, respectively. There was no statistically significant difference between groups in terms of bladder weight, bladder capacity and vesical pressure. The contractile effects of KCl and muscarinic agonist carbachol were significantly higher in groups 1 and 3 than group 2. The response to carbachol was antagonized by muscarinic M(1) and M(3) receptor antagonist pirenzepine and abolished by muscarinic M(3) receptor antagonist 4-DAMP in all groups. CONCLUSIONS The injection of MSCs decreased the collagenous area, increased detrusor contractility. Functional M(3) receptors were also expressed in MSCs-injected bladder smooth muscle as well as in control group.

Abstract
PURPOSE Preoperative chemoradiotherapy (pre-CRT) followed by total mesorectal excision (TME) is the recommended therapy for patients with locally advanced rectal cancer (LARC). The primary aim of this study was to compare the rates of local and distant recurrence and overall survival (OS) in LARC patients who received pre-CRT vs postoperative (post) CRT. METHODS The medical records of 158 rectal cancer patients with clinical stage T3, T4 or N positive disease who received either pre-CRT or post-CRT between 2000-2009 were retrospectively analysed. Pre-CRT employed protracted 5-fluorouracil (5FU) infusion, whereas post-CRT included bolus 5FU and leucovorin concurrently with radiation therapy (RT). Radiation dose was 50.4 Gy in 82% and 45 Gy in 18% of the patients. RESULTS 158 patients (65 females, 93 males) were analysed. Median age was 56.5 years (range 19-78). Fifty-three (34%) patients received pre-CRT and 105 (66%) post-CRT. Median follow-up was 43.3 months (range 8-182) and 47.6 months (range 9-194) in pre-CRT and post-CRT patients, respectively. After pre-CRT, significant downstaging was achieved. However, the type of surgical resection was not influenced by the administration of pre-CRT in tumors ≥5 cm distant from the anal verge (p=0.3). Pathologic complete response was achieved in 20% of the patients in the pre-CRT group. Local recurrence free survival (LRFS) at 5-years was 89.2% in the pre-CRT and 74.8% in the post-CRT group (p=0.04). Distant recurrence free survival (DRFS) at 5-years was 81.7% and 68.5 % in pre-CRT and post-CRT groups, respectively (p=0.1). OS was similar in the two groups (71.4 vs 64.4%, p=0.9). CONCLUSION Treatment of LARC with pre-CRT followed by surgery improved LRFS as compared to surgery followed by post-CRT, but failed to improve DRFS or OS in our patient population.

Abstract
AIMS To examine whether obstruction changes the expression of prostaglandins (PGs) in bladder, intravesical low-dose aspirin could be used as a new route of drug administration, this way of administration influences PGs' expression, and contractile function of the bladder is protected after treatment. METHODS Eighteen rabbits were divided into three groups. Sham-operated group (group 1) included 6 rabbits. Twelve rabbits were partially obstructed for 70 days. Six of these 12 rabbits not receiving any treatment constituted obstructed group (group 2). The remaining six rabbits received 2 mg/kg/day aspirin (group 3). One rabbit in each group was evaluated on 1st, 7th, 14th, 28th, 42nd, and 70th days following obstructive surgery. After scarification, the percentage of collagenous area and concentrations of PGE2 and PGF2-alpha were measured. Contractile responses to field stimulation (EFS), carbachol, and potassium chloride (KCl) were determined. RESULTS Wet tissue PGE2 and PGF2-alpha levels were higher in obstructed group than the other groups. Aspirin decreased the percentage of collagenous area in group 3 compared to the group 2, but this difference was not statistically significant. The strips from aspirin groups resulted in better contractile response to cholinergic stimulation with KCl, but this difference was not statistically significant between the obstructed and aspirin groups. Similarly, carbachol did not elicit significantly greater concentration-dependent contraction in strips from obstructed group compared to those from aspirin groups. Maximum responses to EFS were not significant in aspirin group compared to those from obstructed group. CONCLUSIONS Intravesical aspirin may have protective effect on partially obstructed bladder.

Abstract
Painful diabetic neuropathy is one of the most common forms of neuropathic pain syndromes. Tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-alpha) is a proinflammatory cytokine that has been implicated as a key pain mediator in the development and maintenance of neuropathic pain conditions. Recent studies showed that endogenous TNF-alpha production was also accelerated in neural tissues and spinal cord under chronic hyperglycemia. Thus, in this study, we investigated whether pharmacological inhibition of TNF-alpha by etanercept, a TNF-alpha antagonist, could block behavioral sign of diabetic neuropathic pain. Diabetes was induced by streptozotocin (STZ) (200 mg/kg, i.p.) in Balb-c mice and behavioral tests were performed between 45 and 60 days after STZ administration. Mechanical and thermal sensitivities were measured by a series of calibrated Von Frey filaments and hot plate test, respectively. Etanercept was given by either intravenous (i.v.), intrathecal (i.th.) or intraplantar (i.pl.) routes to the diabetic mice. Tactile allodynia, but not thermal hyperalgesia, developed in diabetic mice. Both i.v. (1, 10 and 20 mg/kg) or i.th. (1, 5 and 10 μg/mouse) treatments with etanercept produced dose dependent reversal of tactile allodynia in diabetic mice. However, etanercept was found to be inactive against allodynia when given i.pl. (1, 5 and 10 μg/mouse). Our results suggest that etanercept has promising effects on diabetic neuropathic pain with antiallodynic effects when given systemically or intrathecally.

Abstract
Dental adhesives can alter the contractility of vascular tissue via different mechanisms. The aim of this study was to investigate and compare the vascular action of two self-etch adhesive systems, Clearfil SE Bond (CSEB) and Clearfil S(3) Bond (CS3B). Responses of isolated rat thoracic aorta rings were recorded isometrically by force displacement transducers. Following pre-contraction of aorta rings, relaxations to the independent and mixed components of CSEB and CS3B were recorded in the absence and presence of nitric oxide synthase (NOS) inhibitor (N(omega)-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (N-LAME)), cyclooxygenase (COX) inhibitor (indomethacin) and K+ channel inhibitors (tetraethylammonium, glibenclamide and 4-aminopyridine). We also tested the effects of CSEB and CS3B in endothelium-intact and -denuded rat thoracic aorta rings. To investigate the Ca2+-channel antagonistic effect of adhesive components, concentration-response curves to CaCl2 were obtained in the absence and presence of the components. The primer, the bond, and the mixture of CSEB and CS3B elicited concentration-dependent relaxations. Mechanical rubbing of the endothelium did not significantly modify the extent of vasorelaxation induced by the test materials. The vasorelaxant effect was mediated neither by NOS and COX inhibition nor by the tested K+ channel antagonists. Mechanical removal of the endothelium did not alter the vasodilatory effect induced by the self-etch adhesives. Both CSEB and CS3B significantly inhibited the contractions induced by CaCl2. These results demonstrate the vasodilatory effect induced by the self-etch adhesive systems through a Ca2+-antagonistic effect.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE It has been suggested that lipid-lowering treatment with the use of statins adversely affects the steroid hormones. However, the safety of lipid lowering treatment targeting very low levels of LDL with respect to the steroid hormones has not been established. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS A prospective, randomized, multicenter trial was conducted involving 98 patients. The patients were randomized into 2 groups: group-I received 10 mg of atorvastatin plus 10 mg of ezetimibe and group-II 80 mg of atorvastatin for the first 3 months. After crossover, the first group received 80 mg of atorvastatin and the second group 10 mg of atorvastatin plus 10 mg of ezetimibe for the following 3 months. Cortisol, DHEAS, testosterone, and estradiol levels were measured at the enrollment and at the end of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 6th months. RESULTS Along with a decrease in LDL level, the levels of DHEAS, testosterone, and estradiol decreased in both groups (p<0.001). While cortisol levels were maintained in the group given 10 mg of atorvastatin plus 10 mg of ezetimibe, it decreased significantly after the crossover to 80 mg of atorvastatin (p<0.001). The group initially given 80 mg of atorvastatin measured a lower level of cortisol for the first 3 months and it returned to normal levels after switching to 10 mg of atorvastatin plus 10 mg of ezetimibe. CONCLUSION Eighty milligrams of atorvastatin decreased all adrenal and gonadal steroids, whereas 10 mg of ezetimibe combined with 10 mg of atorvastatin had at least no impact on cortisol levels.
