Abstract
INTRODUCTION Assuming full control of the relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS) is the main target for practitioners. Disease control could be defined as no clinical relapse, absence of 3-month confirmed disability progression expressed on the Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS), as well as no disease activity on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). NEDA-3 (no evidence of disease activity) is a composite endpoint used primarily in clinical trials, comprising these 3 measurements of disease activity. The aim of this study is to compare cladribine tablets (CT) with oral disease-modifying drugs (DMDs) - fingolimod (FTY), dimethyl fumarate (DMF), and teriflunomide (TERI) - with regard to NEDA-3 and its clinical (relapse and disability progression) and MRI (no new T1 Gd+ lesions or no new T2 lesions or no enlargement of existing lesions) components occurrence during a 24-month follow-up. METHODS In June 2018, a systematic review of MEDLINE, Embase and Cochrane database was performed. Due to the lack of head-to-head trials directly comparing cladribine tablets to oral drugs of interest, an indirect network meta-analysis (NMA) was applied, with placebo as a common comparator. NMA was performed with Bayesian approach and Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) method for estimating posterior distributions. Additional data used in the analysis were taken from conference abstracts or post hoc analyses of pooled data from the clinical studies. RESULTS Six randomised clinical trials (RCTs) presenting NEDA, with active treatment compared to placebo, were included in the NMA: CLARITY (CT), FREEDOMS and FREEDOMS II (FTY), CONFIRM and DEFINE (DMF) and TEMSO (TERI). The rate of NEDA-3 was significantly higher in cladribine tablets vs DMF: OR (odds ratio)=1.76 (95% CrI [credible intervals]: 1.02-3.03) and TERI: OR=2.78 (95% CrI: 1.60-4.83), but not vs FTY. For the MRI NEDA results were as follows - cladribine tablets vs DMF: OR=1.87 (95% CrI: 1.18-2.97); cladribine tablets vs TERI: OR=6.59 (95% CrI: 4.32-10.09); cladribine tablets vs FTY: OR=1.58 (95% CrI: 1.10-2.29). The comparison of clinical NEDA did not reach significance vs either DMF or TERI and evaluation vs FTY was not possible because of lack of data. CONCLUSIONS Cladribine in the form of tablets was significantly more effective in achieving NEDA-3 than DMF and TERI, but there was no significant difference vs FTY. Cladribine tablets was more effective than all oral comparators considering the MRI NEDA. For clinical NEDA, the superiority vs DMF and vs TERI was not confirmed, and vs FTY evaluation was not possible.

Abstract
The aim:The article describes and summarizes the immunological pathomechanisms controlling the development of non-necrotizing granulomas in the course of non-specific inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) in lungs and intestines; it also reviews the possible clinical correlations between the processes in the gastrointestinal and respiratory tracts based on the example of Crohn's disease (CD) and non-specific inflammatory bowel disease (IBC). While the dominant cell subpopulation in ulcerative colitis (UC) is Th2, which produces interleukins IL-4, IL-5, IL-6, IL-10 and IL-13 and Th17 cells; CD characterized by the Th1 cell subpopulation and macrophages predominate, producing IL-23. These are considered to be the key factors crucial for the occurrence of chronic inflammation. Another important causative factor of non-specific inflammatory bowel diseases and granulation is the expression of CD40/CD40L proteins on activated T-cells, i.e. type 2 transmembrane proteins similar to TNF-alpha. However, the interactions between gastrointestinal neuroendocrine peptides/amines (NEPA) and the immune system are believed to have a significant influence on the pathophysiology of non-specific inflammatory bowel diseases and non-necrotizing granulation. The key functions of the immune response of the gastrointestinal tract are managed by the neuroendocrine regulatory system (NES) whose activities govern the production of various hormones including chromogranin/secretogranin, serotonin, vasoactive intestinal polypeptide (VIP), neuropeptide Y (NPY), substance P, somatostatin or ghrelin.

Abstract
Antibacterial activity is the most widely studied aspect of plant extracts. Antibiotics extensively produced and consumed in large quantities, have proved to be problematic due to various types of adverse effects. The development of bacterial resistance to currently available antibiotics has necessitated the search for new antibacterial agents. One of the alternative strategies for fighting antibiotic- resistant bacteria is the use of natural antimicrobial substances such as plant extracts. We tested the antimicrobial activity of nine extracts from different plants against pathogenic bacteria isolated from the faeces of red deer (Cervus elaphus). Selected bacteria commonly contaminated the natural environment and constitute a source of infection in other animals and humans. Extracts obtained from the following plants were tested: Hypericum perforatum L., Chamomilla recutita L., Achillea millefolium L., Salvia officinalis L., Thymus vulgaris L., Pinus sylvestris L., Mentha x piperita L., Valeriana officinalis L. and Foeniculum vulgare Mill. The highest degree of antibacterial properties was observed for Mentha x piperita L., narrower spectrum of activity possessed Hypericum perforatum L. Extracts of Achillea millefolium L. had the lowest spectrum of antibacterial activity. Our study confirms that many plant extracts shows in vitro antibacterial activity.

Abstract
The crystal structure of new 1,10-phenathrolin-1-ium aqua-(nitrilotriacetato-N,O,O',O")-oxidovanadium(IV) semihydrate of molecular formula (phenH)[VO(NTA)(H2O)]∙1/2H2O was determined. This is the first example of structurally characterized compound that comprises a distinctly separated, monomeric [VO(NTA)(H2O)](-) coordination entity. The crystallographic measurements have subsequently been complemented by the IR spectroscopic characterization and thermal analysis. Furthermore, the electrochemical (cyclic voltammetry) as well as spectrophotometric (UV-vis) studies revealed that the compound is capable of scavenging the superoxide free radicals (O2(-)) as well as stable organic radicals i.e. 2,2'-azinobis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6 sulfonic acid) cation radical (ABTS(+)) and 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl radical (DPPH), but its reactivity towards radicals is lower than that of VOSO4. Finally, biological properties of the complex in the range of 1-100 μM were investigated in relation to its cytoprotective activity against the oxidative damage generated exogenously by using hydrogen peroxide in the hippocampal neuronal HT22 cell line (the MTT and LDH tests). It has been established that in contrast to VOSO4 the title compound protects the HT22 from the oxidative damage. The paper presents a new perspective for oxidovanadium(IV) complexes as candidates for novel, low-molecular mass cytoprotective agents.

Abstract
The aim of this work was to find a relationship between physicochemical properties of the oxovanadium(IV) complexes, namely [VO(ODA)(H2O)2], [VO(ODA)(phen)]·1.5H2O and [VO(ODA)(bipy)]·2H2O (ODA = oxydiacetate) as well as [VO(H2O)5](2+), and their biological activity. A potentiometric titration method has been used to characterize the stability of the complexes in aqueous solutions. Furthermore, the reactivity of the complexes towards superoxide free radicals was assessed by employing the NBT assay as well as a cyclic voltammetry (CV) technique. Additionally, the investigations of the antioxidant properties of the complexes were complemented by studying their reactivity towards organic radicals (the ABTS and DPPH tests). Finally, the biological properties of the complexes were investigated in relation to their cytoprotective activity against the oxidative damage generated exogenously by using hydrogen peroxide in the Hippocampal neuronal cell line HT22 (the MTT and LDH tests). The obtained results showed that all the compounds under study display antioxidant properties but a concentration-depended protective effect against the oxidative damage was found for [VO(ODA)(bipy)]·2H2O only.
