Factors associated to the control of viral load in HIV positive patients

Introduction: The acquired immunodeficiency syndrome remains a health challenge in Brazil. Therapeutic failures, characterized by detectable viral load, must have their causes evaluated. Among the most relevant reasons is the lack of adherence to treatment. Objective: To evaluate factors associated with inadequate control of viral load in individuals with HIV in the CAP of Itajubá (MG). Methods: This is an observational, cross-sectional and documentary study with 261 medical records. The variables analyzed were gender, age, education, residence, sexual orientation, first and last test results of tests for viral load and CD4+ T lymphocytes, history of poor adherence, use of current antiretroviral therapy (ART), duration of ART use, depression and/or anxiety, use of illicit drugs, follow-up time at the CAP. Results: Of the patients, 90.42% had an undetectable viral load and 64.37% had a CD4+ T count ≥500 in the last available test. Some characteristics were related to detectable viral load in the last exam: history of poor adherence during treatment (p<0,0001), inconsistent use of ART (p<0,0001) and use of illicit drugs (p=0,0155). Anxiety and/or depression was not statistically significant (p=0,3321). Conclusion: History of poor adherence, inconsistent use of ART and use of illicit drugs were associated with an increased risk ok virological failure. The identification of groups at risk of poor adherence to treatment can support the development of intervention strategies in an early and transdisciplinary way to improve adherence and generate better results in the control of HIV infection.

Efeito do estresse crônico na memória espacial de curto e longo prazo em ratos Wistar

Objetivo: Investigar a relação entre o estresse crônico e a memória espacial em ratos. Metodologia:Utilizaram-se 20 ratos, machos, com 45 dias de vida, linhagem Wistar, divididos em 2 grupos: Estresse Choque (n = 10), onde foram alocados em uma caixa onde receberam um choque elétrico nas patas traseiras de 0,5 mA, por 2 s, a cada 30 s, por 5 min/dia, por 49 dias consecutivos; e Controle (n = 10), alocados na mesma caixa, porém sem receber estímulo, por 5 min, durante 49 dias. Posteriormente, iniciaram-se os procedimentos comportamentais, que consistiram na Habituação na Arena, Teste de Campo Aberto, Treino de Reconhecimento de Objetos, Teste de Memória de Curto Prazo (TMCP) e Teste de Memória de Longo Prazo (TMLP). Foram obtidas as taxas de duração de preferência exploratória. Os dados foram apresentados como média ± EPM. Resultados: No TMCP, o grupo Estresse Choque apresentou um aumento significativo da taxa de exploração (75,75 ± 4,77% vs 58,49 ± 4,83%; p = 0,023), demonstrando um efeito positivo do estresse crônico sobre a memória de curto prazo. No TMCP, não houve diferença significativa do grupo Estresse Choque (55,23 ± 8,33%) em relação ao Controle (71,61 ± 4,76%; p = 0,146). Conclusão: o estresse crônico revelou efeitos positivos sobre a memória de curto prazo no Teste de Reconhecimento de Objetos, quando comparado ao grupo de controle, porém não obteve efeitos significativos sobre a memória de longo prazo.

Eficácia da hemostasia após cateterismo arterial utilizando torniquete de compressão de artéria radial/ Efficacy of hemostasis after arterial catheterization using Radial Artery Compression Tourniquet

Introdução: Com o aumento da expectativa de vida há também um consequente aumento das doenças cardiovasculares e de intervenções coronárias percutâneas. Objetivo: Avaliar obtenção de hemostasia após cateterizações arteriais percutâneas, por via radial, utilizando torniquete de compressão de artéria radial (TCAR). Métodos: Foi realizado um estudo observacional, transversal quantitativo, que avaliou 80 prontuários de pacientes submetidos consecutivamente a operações arteriais percutâneas (cateterismo cardíaco com ou sem necessidade de angioplastia) por acesso radial, que utilizaram TCAR da marca COMED®, como técnica para obtenção da hemostasia, baseando-se o protocolo institucional para manuseio e retirada do dispositivo. Resultados: Sessenta e cinco por cento dos pacientes eram do sexo masculino, com média de idade de 63 anos, peso médio de 76,5 Kg. Cinco mil unidades internacionais de heparina não fracionada foram administradas em todos os procedimentos, com doses adicionais em pacientes que foram submetidos à angioplastia. A maioria (88,7%) dos dispositivos foram insuflados com 15 ml de ar após o procedimento e a hemostasia foi obtida em 78,7% dos casos. Conclusão: A obtenção de hemostasia com compressão da artéria pelo TCAR COMED®, e com a técnica realizada seguindo o protocolo da instituição, mostrou-se efetiva, reduzindo o tempo de compressão sugerido pelo fabricante.Introduction: With the increase in life expectancy, there is also a consequent increase in cardiovascular diseases and percutaneous coronary interventions. Objective: To evaluate hemostasis after radial percutaneous arterial catheterization using the radial artery compression tourniquet (RACT). Methods: An observational, cross-sectional quantitative study was carried out to evaluate 80 medical records of patients consecutively submitted to percutaneous arterial surgeries (cardiac catheterization with or without angioplasty) by radial access using COMED® RACT as the technique to obtain hemostasis, based on the institutional protocol for device handling and removal. Results: Sixty-five percent of the patients were male, with a mean age of 63 years, mean weight of 76.5 kg. Five thousand international units of unfractionated heparin were administered in all procedures, with additional doses in patients who underwent angioplasty. Most (88.7%) devices were inflated with 15 ml of air after the procedure and hemostasis was obtained in 78.7% of cases. Conclusion: Obtaining hemostasis with compression of the artery by COMED® RACT, and with the technique performed following the protocol of the institution, was effective, reducing the time for compression suggested by the manufacturer.

Incidência e reincidência da urolitíase em um hospital quaternário: retrospectivo de 15 anos

Introdução: A urolitíase acomete cerca de 15% da população mundial e representa um alto custo social, pois afeta a população em sua fase mais produtiva. Estudos têm chamado atenção para o risco elevado de reincidência da urolitíase e para os fatores que podem desencadeá-la. Objetivos: O presente estudo objetivou analisar a incidência e reincidência da urolitíase em pacientes submetidos à cirurgia para retirada de cálculos urinários em um hospital quaternário no sul de Minas Gerais. Métodos: Foi realizado um estudo observacional, descritivo, transversal e retrospectivo, a partir de 251 prontuários de pacientes submetidos à cirurgia para retirada de cálculos urinários em um período de 15 anos e 7 meses. Nos prontuários, foram colhidos os seguintes dados: presença de comorbidades e complicações com descrição das mesmas; tipo de cirurgia; anestesia; implantação de cateter duplo J; convênio; localização do cálculo; exames complementares; recorrência de cálculos; localização dos cálculos recorrentes; tipo de cirurgia para retirada dos cálculos recorrentes; tempo decorrido entre a primeira e a segunda cirurgia e exames complementares realizados. Resultados: 21,1% dos pacientes apresentaram recorrência dos cálculos e foram submetidos a uma nova cirurgia. A localização vesical e a nefrolitotripsia como primeira cirurgia influenciaram de forma relevante a recorrência. Conclusão: A urolitíase apresenta elevada recorrência; fatores inerentes à localização dos cálculos e ao procedimento cirúrgico podem influenciar essa ocorrência.

Effects of swimming exercise on the extinction of fear memory in rats

We investigated the relation between swimming exercise and fear memory extinction. Rats that performed regular swimming exercise over 6 wk underwent fear conditioning. Twenty-eight days later, they were submitted to extinction tests. Swimming rats had enhanced extinction process throughout the 5 days of the extinction test compared with sedentary rats. This suggests that the swimming exercise accelerated the process of aversive memory extinction, reducing the expression of conditioned fear behavior. These results encourage further studies addressing the anxiolytic effects of exercise, with potential implications for anxiety disorders such as posttraumatic stress disorder. NEW & NOTEWORTHY We have shown that rats that performed regular swimming exercise over 6 wk had enhanced extinction process compared with sedentary animals. The swimming exercise may accelerate the process of aversive memory extinction, reducing the expression of conditioned fear behavior.

Spiritual and religious coping and depression among family caregivers of pediatric cancer patients in Latin America

OBJECTIVE

Several studies have shown that spiritual/religious beliefs are associated with mental health and quality of life. However, so far, no study assessed the relationship between spiritual/religious coping (SRC) and depressive symptoms in family caregivers (FCs) of pediatric cancer patients, particularly in Latin America. This study aimed to investigate whether Positive and Negative SRC strategies are associated with depressive symptoms in FCs of pediatric cancer patients in Brazil.

METHODS

We conducted a cross-sectional study comprising 77 FCs of pediatric cancer patients from one Brazilian Pediatric Oncology Institute. Spiritual/religious coping was assessed using the Brief SRC scale, and depressive symptoms were evaluated by the Beck Depression Inventory. Multiple regression models were performed to identify factors associated with SRC of FCs and their depressive symptoms.

RESULTS

In the unadjusted linear regression models, depressive symptoms were positively associated with Negative SRC (B = 0.401; P < .001; Adjusted R²  = 16.1%) but not with Positive SRC (B = 0.111; P = .334). After adjusting for socio-demographics, religious practice/faith, and health, Negative SRC remained associated with depressive symptoms (B = 3.56; P = .01; Adjusted R²  = 37.8%). In the logistic regression models, depressive symptoms were positively associated with Negative SRC (OR = 3.68; 95% CI, 1.46-9.25; P = .006), but not with Positive SRC (OR = 1.49; 95% CI, .69-3.22; P = .309). After adjustments, Negative SRC remained significant (OR = 4.01; 95% CI, 1.21-13.33; P = .023).

CONCLUSIONS

Negative SRC was associated with depressive symptoms in FCs of pediatric cancer patients. Health professionals must be aware of the use of Negative SRC strategies in oncology care.

Perfil clínico-epidemiológico dos pacientes em pós-operatório de artroplastia em um hospital do sul de Minas Gerais / Epidemiological clinical profile of patients in arthroplasty postoperative period in a hospital south of Minas Gerais

Introdução: Conhecer a epidemiologia das artroplastias contribui para uma melhor assistência ao paciente, proporcionando medidas corretivas e preventivas das possíveis complicações. Objetivos: Traçar o perfil clínico-epidemiológico dos pacientes em pós-operatório (PO) de artroplastia em um Hospital do Sul de Minas Gerais. Métodos: Foi realizado um estudo observacional, retrospectivo e transversal a partir da análise de prontuários e exames complementares de pacientes submetidos à artroplastia de quadril e joelho no Hospital Escola da Faculdade de Medicina de Itajubá (HE/FMIt). Resultados: Houve prevalência do gênero feminino; a idade média foi de 69,1 anos; 93,6% eram brancos; 49,4% eram casados; 92,0% eram católicos. Em relação à artroplastia de quadril e joelho, respectivamente, 48,4% tiveram fratura de fêmur e 73,3% artrose; 83,4% foram submetidos à artroplastia total de quadril e 100,0% à artroplastia total de joelho; 82,2% e 100,0% utilizaram prótese cimentada; 91,1% internados de 5 a 10 dias e 86,7% internados de 1 a 5 dias; 42,7% negaram comorbidades e 66,7% tinham hipertensão arterial; 46,5% e 60,0% relataram dor, 5,1% apresentaram luxação e 80,0% sem complicações. Destaca-se que 100,0% dos pacientes não foram encaminhados à fisioterapia. Conclusão: Conclui-se que a organização e sistematização de dados são fundamentais para a promoção da segurança do paciente, prevenindo suas complicações e aumentando a sua qualidade de vida.Palavras-Chave: Perfil epidemiológico; Ortopedia; Artroplastia de quadril; Artroplastia de joelhoIntroduction: To know the epidemiology of arthroplasties is a way to contribute to better patient care, by providing corrective and preventive measures of possible complications. Aims: To describe the clinical-epidemiological profile of patients in the postoperative period (PO) of arthroplasty in a Hospital in the South of Minas Gerais State. Methods: An observational, retrospective and cross-sectional study was carried out and it was based on the analysis of charts and complementary exams of patients who underwent hip and knee arthroplasty at the School Hospital of the Medical School of Itajubá (HE/FMIt). Results: There was a prevalence of female gender; mean age was 69.1 years of age; 93.6% of the patients were Caucasian; 49.4% were married; 92.0% were catholic. Concerning hip and knee arthroplasty, 48.4% had a femur fracture and 73.3% had arthrosis; 83.4% underwent total hip arthroplasty and 100.0% underwent total knee arthroplasty; 82.2% and 100.0% used cemented prosthesis; 91.1% were hospitalized for 5 to 10 days and 86.7% hospitalized for 1 to 5 days; 42.7% denied comorbidities and 66.7% had arterial hypertension; 46.5% and 60.0% reported pain; 59.0% presented pain dislocation and 80.0% had no complications. It is highlighted that 100.0% of patients were not referred to physical therapy. Conclusion: It is concluded that the organization and systematization of data are fundamental for the promotion of patient safety, preventing complications and increasing their quality of life.Keywords: Epidemiological profile; Orthopedics; Hip arthroplasty; Knee arthroplasty

Two Sides of the Same Coin: The Positive and Negative Impact of Spiritual Religious Coping on Quality of Life and Depression in Dialysis Patients

Background: Studies have shown that spiritual/religious beliefs are associated with mental health and health-related quality of life (HRQoL). However, few studies evaluated how spiritual/religious coping (SRC) could affect hemodialysis patients. Objectives: The present study investigated the role of SRC behaviors on HRQoL and depressive symptoms in hemodialysis patients. Design and Participants: This was cross-sectional study with 184 patients. Patients completed the Beck Depression Inventory, Brief SRC Scale, Medical Outcomes Study 36-Item Short-Form Health Survey (SF-36), and a Sociodemographic and Health Characterization Questionnaire. Results: From 218 patients, 184 (84.4%) were included (53.8% male with a median age of 55.9 years). Negative SRC, but not positive SRC, was associated with depressive symptoms. Positive SRC presented significant effects in SF-36 pain and physical and social functioning. On the other hand, negative SRC exhibited significant effects in SF-36 role emotional, energy/fatigue, pain, and physical functioning. Conclusion: SRC influences the mental health and HRQoL in Brazilian hemodialysis patients in two distinct ways. If used positively, it may have positive outcomes. However, if used negatively, it may lead to dysfunctional consequences such as greater depressive symptomatology and affect HRQoL. Health professionals must be aware of these “two sides of the same coin.”

Comportamento da Lordose Lombar no Exercício Resistido / Lumbar lordosis behavior in Resisted Exercise

Objetivo: Analisar a curvatura lombar durante a execução de exercícios resistidos. Materiais e Métodos: Foram analisadas 81 pessoas, durante a execução de cinco aparelhos diferentes de exercício resistido. Fez-se um registro fotográfico da coluna lombar durante os exercícios, seguido da análise de quatro variáveis: manutenção da lordose fisiológica, hiperlordose, retificação da curvatura e inversão da curvatura. Resultados: Em todos os aparelhos houve a modificação do comportamento da lordose lombar durante a execução dos exercícios. A manutenção da lordose fisiológica, correspondendo a uma posição não errônea ou aceitável, não foi significativa. No aparelho Cadeira Extensora, a manutenção correta da curvatura lombar durante o exercício resistido esteve presente em apenas 35,8%, sendo o aparelho em que menos se manteve a curvatura fisiológica e em que houve a inversão da curva como a modificação mais presente. O Aparelho Voador foi o que mais demonstrou a preservação da postura com uma porcentagem pequena de alteração (76,5%), seguido pelo aparelho Leg Press (preservação de 65,4%) e pelo Pulley Alto (64,2%). No aparelho Cadeira Flexora, pode-se observar um menor número de variedade dos tipos de curvaturas, estando presente apenas a hiperlordose e a lordose fisiológica, com predomínio de 61,7%, estando ausentes a retificação da curva e a inversão da curva. Conclusão: A prática do exercício resistido sem a manutenção da lordose lombar, seja ela por má orientação ou por carga excessiva, está presente na prática regular dos alunos submetidos a análise do presente estudo.Palavras-chave: Curvaturas da Coluna Vertebral, Dor Lombar, Postura, Exercício, Esforço Físico, Levantamento de PesoABSTRACTObjective: To analyze the lumbar curvature while executing resisted exercises. Material and Methods: A total of 81 subjects were analyzed during execution of five different resistance exercise devices. A photographic register of the lumbar spine during the exercise was performed, followed by data analysis of four variables: maintenance of physiological lordosis, hyperlordosis, rectified curvature and reversal of curvature. Results: It was found modification in lumbar lordosis behavior during the execution of all exercises. The maintenance of the physiological lordosis, which would be a not erroneous and acceptable position, was not significant. On the “Stretcher Chair” device, the correct maintenance of the lumbar curvature during resisted exercise was present in only 35.8%. It was the apparatus in which few remained physiological curvature and the most  inversion of the curve was present. The “Flying” machine showed the most preservation of posture with a small percentage of change (76.5%), and was followed by the “Leg” unit (65.4%) and “High Pulley” set (64.2%). The “Flexor Chair” device showed the fewer variety in types of curvatures, the hyperlordosis and physiologic lordosis, with a prevalence of 61.7%.  Rectification and reversal of the curvature was not observed in this device. Conclusion: The practice of resisted exercise without the maintenance of lumbar lordosis, whether by misdirection or stress, is the regular practice of students subjected to analysis of this study.Keywords: Spinal Curvatures, Low Back Pain, Posture, Exercise, Physical Exertion, Weight Lifting 

A rare case of Ganglioneuroblastoma Encapsulated in Pheochromocytoma

Pheochromocytoma and Ganglioneuroblastoma are separate diseases and a rare combination in which the diagnosis can only be confirmed by pathological examination after tumor excision. We reported here a case of ganglioneuroblastoma encapsulated in pheochromocytoma. The patient is a woman, 73 years old, hypertensive, with hypothyroidism, associated for 15 years with hypercholesterolemia and hypertriglyceridemia, which had frequent complaints of low back pain. She underwent magnetic resonance and the findings were consistent with the diagnosis of pheochromocytoma. After surgery, anatomic, pathologic and immunohistochemistry analysis confirmed the diagnosis of pheochromocytoma composed by small ganglioneuroblastoma representation with the identification of small focus of infiltration of the adrenal capsule and adipose tissue by pheochromocytoma. This rare association can instigate the discussion of methods of diagnosis, more effective and more appropriate treatments for each patient.

ESTRATÉGIAS DE COPING EM ATLETAS DE FUTEBOL FEMININO: ESTUDO COMPARATIVO

RESUMO Introdução: Os atletas de alto rendimento sofrem com uma série de fatores causadores de perturbações psicológicas, que podem acarretar danos ao seu desempenho final. Com a competitividade elevada e o nivelamento nos treinamentos físico e tático, as estratégias de coping (enfrentamento) para superar essas perturbações podem fazer a diferença entre um elenco campeão ou perdedor. Objetivos: Analisar e comparar as estratégias de coping entre atletas de alto rendimento e praticantes de futebol feminino. Métodos: Trata-se de um estudo quantitativo, descritivo, transversal e com amostragem não probabilística. A amostra foi composta por 56 atletas, divididas em dois grupos: G1 - atletas de alto rendimento e G2 - praticantes de futebol feminino. O instrumento utilizado foi o Athletic Coping Skills Inventory-28 (ACSI-28), validado para o Brasil (ACSI-25BR) e um questionário sociodemográfico contendo 12 questões, elaborado pelos próprios autores. Para a análise dos dados foi usada a estatística descritiva, teste de normalidade de Shapiro-Wilk e o teste t de Student para dados independentes. O nível de confiança adotado foi de 95%. Resultados: Atletas de alto rendimento obtiveram maior pontuação média, estatisticamente significante, com relação às praticantes de futebol feminino nas dimensões: "desempenho sob pressão" (p = 0,048), "concentração" (p = 0,020) e "confiança/motivação" (p = 0,009). Conclusão: Atletas de alto rendimento obtiveram melhor desempenho em todas as dimensões, exceto em "treinabilidade" e "ausência de preocupação", quando comparadas ao grupo de praticantes de futebol feminino.

Evaluation of rotator cuff muscle strength in healthy individuals

OBJECTIVE:

To compare the strength generated by the rotator muscles of the shoulder joint between the right upper limb and left upper limb among healthy individuals.

METHODS:

To evaluate the muscle strength of upper limbs from isometric contractions in the horizontal direction (rotation) an isometric dynamometer was used, equipped with transducers, signal conditioning, a data acquisition board, and finally, a computer. Study participants were 22 male military subjects, aged between 18 and 19 years old, body mass between 57.7 and 93.0 kg (71.8 ± 9.45 kg) and height between 1.67 and 1.90 m (1.75 ± 0.06 m), healthy and without clinical diseases or any type of orthopedic injury in the muscle skeletal system.

RESULTS:

The internal rotation in the right upper limb (RUL) was higher than the average strength of internal rotation in the left upper limb (LUL) (p = 0.723). The external rotation strength in RUL was lower than the average strength of external rotation in the LUL (p=0.788). No statistical difference was observed by comparing the strength values of all isometric strength tests.

CONCLUSION:

For the sample and methodology used to assess muscle strength, there was no statistical difference between the strength generated by the muscles of the rotator cuff of the right and left upper limbs. Experimental Study.

Modelamento Multicorpo do Sistema Musculoesquelético/Multibody modeling of the Musculoskeletal System

RESUMOVários sistemas podem ser tratados com formalismos multicorpos: mecanismos de máquinas em geral, robôs industriais e manipuladores, estruturas espaciais, motores e, ainda, sistemas biomecânicos. A locomoção ou marcha humana e animal podem ser estudadas através de formalismos multicorpos.Nos últimos anos, diversos trabalhos relacionados à biomecânica, e utilizando formalismos multicorpos, têm sido apresentados. Muitos estudos in vitro e in vivo têm sido realizados, objetivando descrever o potencial de sobrecarga nas articulações do corpo humano e de modelos animais. O objetivo desta revisão foi apresentar estudos envolvendo o modelamento matemático aplicado à bioengenharia, biomecânica e engenharia biomédica. Conclui-se que o modelamento matemático é uma ferramenta muito útil, barata e não invasiva que vem contribuir nos estudos envolvendo o sistema multicorpo mecânico e complexo, que é o corpo humano. Palavras chave: Modelamentomulticorpo, corpo humano, sistema musculoesquelético. ABSTRACTSeveral systems can be treated with multibody formalisms: mechanisms of general machinery, industrial robots and manipulators, space structures, engines, and also biomechanical systems. The locomotion or human gait can be studied using multibody formalisms. Several studies related to biomechanics, and using multibody formalisms, have been presented in recent years. Many studies in vitro and in vivo have been carried out, aiming to describe the potential overload in the joints of the human body and animal models. The aim of this review was to present studies involving mathematical modeling applied to bioengineering, biomechanics and biomedical engineering. We have concluded that mathematical modeling is a useful, inexpensive and noninvasive tool which comes to contribute in studies involving the mechanical and complex multibody system which is the human body. Key words: Multibodymodeling, human body, musculoskeletal system.

Sistema de Aquisição de Baixo Custo para um Dinamômetro Biomédico / Acquisition system of a low cost biomedical dynamometer

Objetivo: criar um Sistema de Aquisição de baixo custo, otimizando um dispositivo de fabricação própria. Método: Para tanto, foi idealizado um sistema dedicado, o qual é alimentado por uma bateria central de 12V. A ponte completa de “Wheatstone” é alimentada pela bateria central, regulada em 9V. Resultados: O sinal dos extensômetros apresenta uma variação de 0 a 30 mV, o qual é amplificado e filtrado por um Condicionador de Sinais de fabricação própria, usando um LM 324. O sinal elétrico então passa a variar de 0 a 5V, que serão tratados em uma entrada analógica de um Microcontrolador PIC. Os testes para registro e interpretação dos dados ocorrem através do software  MyOpenLab. Conclusão: O trabalho está em andamento e os primeiros resultados sugerem que o sistema será capaz de mensurar a força muscular de forma precisa e com custo reduzido.   Palavras chave: Dinamômetro, Força Muscular, Engenharia Biomédica.    Objective: to create a purchasing system for optimizing a low cost device fabrication itself. Method: For this purpose was designed a system which is powered by a 12V battery center. The full bridge of "Wheatstone" is powered by the central battery set to 9V. Results: The sign of the strain has a range of 0 to 30 mV which is amplified filtered by a signal conditioner own manufacturing using an LM 324. The electrical signal then passes to vary from 0 to5V which will be processed in an analog input of PIC microcontroller. Tests for the registration and interpretation of data are through software MyOpenLab. Conclusion: The work is in progress and initial results suggest that the system will be able to measure muscular strength accurately and cost-effective.  Keywords: Dynamometry, Muscle Strength, Biomedical Engineer.  

Força dos Músculos Rotadores do Ombro em Indivíduos Saudáveis/ Rotator Cuff Muscle Strength in Healthy Individuals

Introdução: A diminuição da capacidade de exercer esforços por parte dos músculos rotadores pode criar uma variedade de problemas. O conhecimento preciso do nível de força muscular de um indivíduo é importante, tanto para a avaliação da capacidade funcional ocupacional, como para uma apropriada prescrição de exercícios atléticos e de reabilitação. Percebe-se escassez de informação sobre as articulações do ombro, bem como os fatores envolvidos na força muscular dessa região. O objetivo deste estudo foi comparar a força gerada pelos músculos do manguito rotador entre o membro superior direito e o membro superior esquerdo em indivíduos saudáveis. Métodos: Participaram do estudo 22 sujeitos do sexo masculino, com idade de 18 e 19 anos, militares, saudáveis e sem história clínica de patologia ortopédica ou qualquer tipo de lesão no sistema musculoesquelético. Foram aplicados dois testes de força: Rotação Interna e Rotação Externa. Resultado : A força média de rotação interna no membro superior direito (MSD) foi maior que a força média de rotação interna no membro superior esquerdo (MSE) (p=0,723) e a força de rotação externa no MSD foi menor que a força média de rotação externa no MSE (p=0,788). Não houve diferença estatística na comparação dos valores de força de todos os testes de força isométrica. Conclusão: Para amostra estudada e metodologia utilizada na avaliação da força muscular, não houve diferença estatística na comparação da força gerada pelos músculos do manguito rotador do membro superior direito e do membro superior esquerdo.Rotator Cuff Muscle Strength in Healthy Individuals Introduction: Decreased ability to exert efforts by the rotator muscles can create a variety of problems. The precise knowledge of the level of muscular strength of an individual is important for both the functional capacity evaluation for occupational as an appropriate exercise prescription and rehabilitation of athletic. It is perceived scarcity of information on the shoulder joints as well as factors involved in muscle strength in this region. Objective: Develop a device for measuring the strength generated by the muscles of the upper limbs and the verification of efficiency and adaptability of this device through a comparative study of muscle strength in healthy subjects. Methods: The study included 22 male subjects, aged 18 and 19 years, military personnel, body mass between 57.7 and 93 kg (71.8 ± 9.45 kg) and height between 1.67 and 1.90 m (1.75 ± 0.06 m), healthy and without a history of orthopaedic disease or any kind of damage to the musculoskeletal system. Three strength tests were applied: Internal Rotation and External Rotation. For each type of effort three maximum voluntary contractions were required for 10 seconds, with an interval of 30 seconds between each contraction.  Results: Internal rotation in the right upper limb (RUL) was higher than the average strength of internal rotation in the left upper limb (LUL) (p = 0, 723) and the external rotation strength in RUL was lower than the average strength of external rotation in the LUL (p=0,788).  No statistical difference in comparing the strength values of all isometric strength tests. Conclusion: For sample and methodology used to assess muscle strength, there was no statistical difference in comparing the force generated by the muscles of the rotator cuff of the right and left upper limb.

Dados Clínicos dos Pacientes Cadastrados no Programa HiperDia, Itajubá, Minas Gerais, Brasil/Clinical Data of Patients Registered HiperDia Program, Itajubá, Minas Gerais, Brazil

Objetivo: O objetivo do trabalho foi identificar os dados clínicos dos pacientes cadastrados no HiperDia, verificar a prevalência de doenças associadas e a ocorrência de fatores de riscos, de modo a traçar o perfil epidemiológico dos usuários do HiperDia na cidade de Itajubá, Minas Gerais. Materiais e Métodos: Utilizou-se como instrumento de pesquisa as fichas de cadastro do programa HiperDia de pessoas residentes no município de Itajubá. Utilizou-se a estatística descritiva para melhor compreensão dos resultados. Os dados coletados foram digitados no programa Microsoft Office Excel 2007 e foram utilizadas funções estatísticas para obter a porcentagem, com o erro populacional, de cada variável. Também foram realizados o teste qui-quadrado (não paramétrico) em relação aos fatores de riscos concomitantes e teste binominal. Resultados: Os fatores de riscos mais relevantes foram antecedentes familiares (64,2%) e sedentarismo (54,2%) e dentre as patologias, a de maior relevância é a hipertensão arterial (85,6%), seguida do diabetes tipo II (30,4%). Observou-se que um número, ainda que pequeno, de pessoas que buscam os serviços do Sistema Único de Saúde já possuem complicações e fatores de risco para hipertensão e diabetes. Conclusão: É necessário adotar medidas de aperfeiçoamento dos programas de prevenção; diagnosticar de forma precoce o agravo; diminuir os fatores de risco, conscientizando a população sobre tais doenças e hábitos saudáveis de vida.  Palavras chave: Diabetes, Hipertensão, Saúde Pública.  ABSTRACTObjective: The aim of this study was to identify the clinical data of patients enrolled in the HiperDia, to determine the prevalence of associated diseases and the occurrence of risk factors in order to trace the epidemiological profile of users in the city of HiperDia Itajubá, State of Minas Gerais. Materials and Methods: It was used as a research tool the program registration forms HiperDia of people living in Itajubá city. It was used descriptive statistics to better understand the results. The collected data were entered into the Microsoft Office Excel 2007, using statistical functions to obtain the percentage, with the error population of each variable. Were also conducted "chi-square" test (nonparametric) compared to concomitant risk factors and binomial test. Results: The most relevant risk factors were family history (64,2%) and sedentary lifestyle (54,2%) and among the diseases, the most relevant is hypertension arterial (85,6%), followed by diabetes type II (30,4%). Regarding the presence of complications, Acute Myocardial Infarction followed by Cerebrovascular Accident (CVA) were the most outstading. It was observed that a number, even small, of people seeking the services of the Health System already have complications and have risk factors for hypertension and diabetes. Conclusion: It is still necessary to take measures for improvement of prevention programs; diagnose thepathology so early; reduce risk factors, sensitizing the population on such diseases and healthy lifestyles.  Key words: Diabetes, Hypertension, Public Health
