Abstract
In low- and middle-income countries, breast reconstruction is not widely practiced due to a lack of specialized equipment, skilled personnel, and high costs. The scarless latissimus dorsi flap is a useful technique which can harvest a major portion of the latissimus dorsi muscle using the same mastectomy incision without requiring repositioning of the patient, to cover the lower pole of prosthesis for reconstruction. The aim of this study was to assess and evaluate the cosmetic results and complications of scarless LD flap used as a lower pole cover in post-mastectomy breast reconstruction with implants. This is a pilot study of 18 breast cancer patients who underwent implant-based scarless LD flap breast reconstructions during a period of 4 years from 2017 to 2021. A questionnaire based on relevant subscales of BREAST-Q scores was completed by all the patients and used for evaluation. A total of 18 patients who underwent 20 surgeries were evaluated for the study. The median age was 44.5 years. The mean operative time was observed to be 164.50 min. The mean length of hospital stay was 3.1 days. From the Breast Q subscales, the mean cosmetic score was 31 out of 36 (range 27-36) (higher score reflecting better cosmetic outcome), and the mean physical well-being score was 17.25 out of 54 (range 12-29) (lower score reflecting better outcome). Overall complications were observed to be 20% which included minimal flap necrosis in 2 patients which was managed conservatively, and seromas in 2 patients which needed ultrasound-guided aspirations twice. There were no major complications. The scarless LD flap provides an adequate lower pole muscle coverage for implants in breast reconstruction. It has less morbidity and good cosmetic outcomes. It is time and cost-effective, requires no patient repositioning, and uses standard breast instruments.

Abstract
BACKGROUND: Approximately 10% of incident TB cases worldwide are attributable to alcohol. However, evidence associating alcohol with unfavorable TB treatment outcomes is weak.METHODS: We prospectively evaluated men (≥18 years) with pulmonary TB in India for up to 24 months to investigate the association between alcohol use and treatment outcomes. Unhealthy alcohol use was defined as a score of ≥4 on the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test-Concise (AUDIT-C) scale at entry. Unfavorable TB treatment outcomes included failure, recurrence, and all-cause mortality, analyzed as composite and independent endpoints.RESULTS: Among 751 men, we identified unhealthy alcohol use in 302 (40%). Median age was 39 years (IQR 28-50); 415 (55%) were underweight (defined as a body mass index [BMI] <18.5 kg/m²); and 198 (26%) experienced an unfavorable outcome. Unhealthy alcohol use was an independent risk factor for the composite unfavorable outcome (adjusted incidence rate ratio [aIRR] 1.47, 95% CI 1.05-2.06; P = 0.03) and death (aIRR 1.90, 95% CI 1.08-3.34; P = 0.03), specifically. We found significant interaction between AUDIT-C and BMI; underweight men with unhealthy alcohol use had increased risk of unfavorable outcomes (aIRR 2.22, 95% CI 1.44-3.44; P < 0.001) compared to men with BMI ≥18.5 kg/m² and AUDIT-C <4.CONCLUSION: Unhealthy alcohol use was independently associated with unfavorable TB treatment outcomes, highlighting the need for integrating effective alcohol interventions into TB care.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Following the nationwide lockdown in India, most hospitals shut down elective surgeries including cancer surgeries. We continued operating on patients with cancer at a tertiary referral center in Western India, which also served as a COVID care center. We also constructed a questionnaire, exclusive to surgeons, to determine the changes in treatment strategies as well as the response to the pandemic. METHODS The complications of all cases operated in the study period (March 22, 2020-June 30, 2020) were graded using the Clavien-Dindo classification. Also, an anonymous structured questionnaire was constructed and e-mailed to all surgical oncologists working at our institute. RESULTS Of the 118 patients having an operation, 18 had complications. There were 12 Grade I/II and 6 Grade III complications but none of our patients had Grade-IV/V complications. When the staff of the main operating theater tested COVID positive, the complex was shut down. However surgical oncology work continued at an affiliated institute about 10 km away from the main hospital. CONCLUSION We had favorable outcomes while operating on cancer patients in a COVID care center. The results of our questionnaire proved that surgeons were willing to risk their personal safety to provide surgical oncology care.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The COVID-19 outbreak and the subsequent declaration of pandemic was an unprecedented event, which created different complex situations for treatment of cancer patients. A critical assessment of the response to this calamity and its impact on healthcare workers (HCWs) and patient care in a dedicated cancer hospital is analyzed. SITE OF STUDY Indrayani Cancer Hospital, Alandi, Pune, India. MATERIALS AND METHODS Due to the pandemic, standard operating protocols were decided on for each department. Analysis of the impact on healthcare was done by comparing the number of patients taking treatment in the lockdown period in India with the previous year's data in the same corresponding period in all three departments. The impact of COVID infection on the HCW and its repercussions were analyzed. RESULTS There was a marked decrease in the total number of patients during the lockdown period. The most affected department was surgical oncology. None of our patients contracted COVID-19, but one HCW was found to be positive. CONCLUSION Strict adherence to protocols along with the support of the government authorities can prevent the spread of this virus thus providing optimal patient outcomes. The treatment of patients with cancer should not be delayed, even in times of a pandemic.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Implant wastage is an under-reported issue in orthopaedics, yet it has been shown to have a significant cost burden on healthcare budgets. In a background of a perilous financial climate in the UK health service, our aim was to define the frequency and costs of implant wastage in orthopaedic trauma. MATERIALS AND METHODS The trauma theatre's implant logbook was retrospectively analysed between April 2017 and April 2018. Wasted implants were identified by the study authors independently. Patient demographics, implant details and costs were among the data collected. Product codes of wasted implants were used to identify implant costs through the manufacturer. RESULTS Implant wastage occurred in 25.1% of trauma procedures during the study period. Most wasted implants (91%) were screws. The total cost of implant wastage was £8,377.25 during the 12-month period, accounting for 2% of the total implant budget. Wasted intramedullary nails accounted for almost 50% of the total cost. More than 51% of affected procedures involved a trainee as the primary operator. DISCUSSION We report the first study of implant wastage in orthopaedics from the UK. Total implant wastage was higher than reported in most of the published literature, although it represented a small portion of the budget. Implant wastage is attributable to surgeons or operating theatre staff in most cases and is compounded by surgeons' limited understanding of implant costs. Initiatives to reduce implant wastage should include raising awareness of costs and departmental wastage to surgeons and operating theatre staff as well as employing preoperative planning techniques.

Abstract
SETTING: Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation area, Maharashtra State, India.OBJECTIVE: To assess the sensitivity and specificity of the Xpert® MTB/RIF assay among adults with suspected pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB) and with or without diabetes
(DM).DESIGN: As part of a prospective cohort study, we screened 2359 adults presumed to have PTB with no history of TB. All individuals underwent testing for two sputum smears, culture, Xpert, glycated haemoglobin and fasting blood sugar. We calculated sensitivity and specificity
of Xpert by comparing it with TB sputum culture result as a gold standard.RESULTS: Among screened individuals, 483 (20%) were diagnosed with DM and 1153 (49%) with pre-DM; 723 (31%) had no DM. Overall sensitivity of Xpert was 96% (95%CI 95–97) and specificity was 91% (95%CI
89–93). Xpert sensitivity was significantly higher among DM group (98%) than in the ‘No DM' (95%; P < 0.01) and pre-DM (96%; P < 0.05) groups. Among sputum smear-negative individuals, Xpert sensitivity was higher in the DM group than in the No DM (92% vs. 82%;
P = 0.054) and pre-DM group (92% vs. 82%; P = 0.037).CONCLUSION: High sensitivity and specificity of Xpert underscores the need for its rapid scale up for the early detection of TB in settings with a high dual burden of TB and DM.

Abstract
SETTING The optimal timing of screening for diabetes mellitus (DM) among tuberculosis (TB) cases is unclear due to the possibility of stress hyperglycemia. DESIGN We evaluated adult (18 years) pulmonary TB cases at treatment initiation as well as at 3 months, 6 months and 12 months. DM was identified by self-report (known DM) or glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) 6.5% (new DM). Trends in HbA1c levels during treatment were assessed using non-parametric tests. RESULTS Of the 392 participants enrolled, 75 (19%) had DM, 30 (40%) of whom had new DM. Of the 45 participants with known DM, respectively 37 (82%) and 40 (89%) received medication to lower glucose levels at treatment initiation and completion; one participant with new DM initiated glucose-lowering medication during follow-up. The median HbA1c level in participants with known, new and no DM was respectively 10.1% (interquartile range [IQR] 8.3-11.6), 8.5% (IQR 6.7-11.5) and 5.6% (IQR 5.3-5.9) at treatment initiation, and 8.7% (IQR 6.8-11.3), 7.1% (IQR 5.8-9.5) and 5.3% (IQR 5.1-5.6) at treatment completion (P < 0.001). Overall, 5 (12%) with known and 13 (43%) with new DM at treatment initiation had reverted to HbA1c < 6.5% by treatment completion (P = 0.003); the majority of reversions occurred during the first 3 months, with no significant reversions beyond 6 months. CONCLUSION HbA1c levels declined with anti-tuberculosis treatment. Repeat HbA1c testing at treatment completion could reduce the risk of misdiagnosis of DM.

Abstract
Tailgut cysts are rare congenital lesions presenting as retrorectal space masses. They can occur in all age groups. Patients often present with ill-defined nonspecific symptoms and the diagnosis if often delayed. Malignancy arising in a tailgut cyst is an even rarer and unique occurrence. A precise diagnosis can be made only after complete excision and histopathological examination of the retrorectal space mass. We describe here a case of a 63-year-old male presenting with chronic constipation, who was diagnosed with a well-differentiated neuroendocrine tumor (Grade I) arising in a tailgut cyst after surgical excision.

Abstract
SETTING Pune, India. OBJECTIVES To estimate the prevalence and risk factors of pre-diabetes mellitus (DM) and DM, and its associations with the clinical presentation of tuberculosis (TB). DESIGN Screening for DM was conducted among adults (age 18 years) with confirmed TB between December 2013 and January 2017. We used multinomial regression to evaluate the risk factors for pre-DM (glycated hemoglobin [HbA1c] 5.7-6.5% or fasting glucose 100-125 mg/dl) and DM (HbA1c 6.5% or fasting glucose 126 mg/dl or random blood glucose > 200 mg/dl or self-reported DM history/treatment) and the association of dysglycemia with the severity of TB disease. RESULTS Among 1793 participants screened, 890 (50%) had microbiologically confirmed TB. Of these, 33% had pre-DM and 18% had DM; 41% were newly diagnosed. The median HbA1c level among newly diagnosed DM was 7.0% vs. 10.3% among known DM (P < 0.001). DM (adjusted OR [aOR] 4.94, 95%CI 2.33-10.48) and each per cent increase in HbA1c (aOR 1.42, 95%CI 1.01-2.01) was associated with >1+ smear grade or 9 days to TB detection. CONCLUSION Over half of newly diagnosed TB patients had DM or pre-DM. DM and increasing dysglycemia was associated with higher bacterial burden at TB diagnosis, potentially indicating a higher risk of TB transmission to close contacts.

Abstract
Endogenous nitrosothiols (SNOs) including S-nitrosoglutathione (GSNO) serve as reservoir for bioavailable nitric oxide (NO) and mediate NO-based signaling, inflammatory status and smooth muscle function in the lung. GSNOR inhibition increases pulmonary GSNO and induces bronchodilation while reducing inflammation in lung diseases. In this letter, design, synthesis and structure-activity relationships (SAR) of novel imidazole-biaryl-tetrazole based GSNOR inhibitors are described. Many potent inhibitors (30, 39, 41, 42, 44, 45 and 58) were identified with low nanomolar activity (IC50s: <15 nM) along with adequate metabolic stability. Lead compounds 30 and 58 exhibited good exposure and oral bioavailability in mouse pharmacokinetic (PK) study. Compound 30 was selected for further profiling and revealed comparable mouse and rat GSNOR potency, high selectivity against alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH) and carbonyl reductase (CBR1) family of enzymes, low efflux ratio and permeability in PAMPA, a high permeability in CALU-3 assay, significantly low hERG activity and minimal off-target activity. Further, an in vivo efficacy of compound 30 is disclosed in cigarette smoke (CS) induced mouse model for COPD.

Abstract
Background Chylothorax is a well-documented complication of thoracic trauma and is associated with high rates of morbidity and mortality. Treatment for chylothorax includes conservative measures (total parenteral nutrition, pleural drainage, and pleurodesis) and surgery (thoracic duct ligation). Case presentation We present the case of a 65-year-old man who developed chylothorax after an elective surgical procedure. In this report conservative treatment aims to reduce chyle flow, to drain the pleural cavity in an effective manner, and to prevent chronic sequelae. Optimal conservative treatment, started immediately upon diagnosis, effectively reduces the need for reoperation and long-term hospitalization, and it might prevent further sequelae of chylothorax. Conclusions The chylothorax was successfully treated conservatively, which may reduce the need for reoperation.

Abstract
Background: Oral cancer accounts for more than 250,000 new cases of cancer in India. Oral cancer combining all sites of cancer in oral cavity is the single commonest cancer in males in India. Oral cancer involving upper alveolus and primary maxillary sinus tumors are a surgical challenge due to the complex surgery and rehabilitation. Aim: Optimal treatment strategy for treatment of squamous cancer invading maxillary sinus. Methods: This is a retrospective study of clinicopathological features, treatment, rehabilitation and outcome of all patients who underwent surgical treatment of tumor invading maxillary sinus over a period of 30 months in a rural cancer hospital. Results: Out of a total of 47 patients, 26 (55.3%) were males and 21 (44.7%) were females. Median age was 56 year with youngest patient of 23 year and oldest 88 year old. Primary maxillary sinus cancers were 19.1%, palatal tumors were 10.6% and 70.3% were buccal mucosa and upper alveolus cancers. Early cancers were 51% and locally advanced were 49%. Total maxillectomy was performed in 59.6%, partial maxillectomy in 34.1% and extended maxillectomy in 6.3% of the patients. Histology was squamous carcinoma in all patients and 85.1% were grade 2. Peripheral neural invasion was present in 14.9%, lympho-vascular emboli in 23.4%, and surgical margins were positive in 10% of the patients. Eighty percent patients underwent reconstruction by free microvascular flap. Fifty-one percent patients received postoperative chemoradiotherapy while 25.5% received only radiotherapy and 19.1% received no adjuvant treatment. At a mean follow-up of 11 months 74.5% patients are alive. Good speech was achieved in 70% and intelligible speech in 17% of the patients, while 12.8% were not able to speak. Solid food swallowing was achieved in 36.2%, semisolid in 27.6%, liquid in 19.1% of the patients and 12.8% remained on nasogastric tube feeds. Conclusion: Surgical resection with reconstruction by microvascular flap and postsurgical chemoradiotherapy in locally advanced cancers is key for improved survival and successful rehabilitation in cancer invading maxilla.

Abstract
In an effort to identify CYP and hERG clean mPGES-1 inhibitors from the dihydrofuran-fused tricyclic benzo[d]imidazole series lead 7, an extensive structure-activity relationship (SAR) studies were performed. Optimization of A, D and E-rings in 7 afforded many potent compounds with human whole blood potency in the range of 160-950 nM. Selected inhibitors 21d, 21j, 21m, 21n, 21p and 22b provided selectivity against COX-enzymes and mPGES-1 isoforms (mPGES-2 and cPGES) along with sufficient selectivity against prostanoid synthases. Most of the tested analogs demonstrated required metabolic stability in liver microsomes, low hERG and CYP liability. Oral pharmacokinetics and bioavailability of lead compounds 21j, 21m and 21p are discussed in multiple species like rat, guinea pig, dog, and cynomolgus monkey. Besides, these compounds revealed low to moderate activity against human pregnane X receptor (hPXR). The selected lead 21j further demonstrated in vivo efficacy in acute hyperalgesia (ED50: 39.6 mg/kg) and MIA-induced osteoarthritic pain models (ED50: 106 mg/kg).

Abstract
This letter describes the synthesis and biological evaluation of furan and dihydrofuran-fused tricyclic benzo[d]imidazole derivatives as novel mPGES-1 inhibitors, capable of inhibiting an increased PGE2 production in the disease state. Structure-activity optimization afforded many potent mPGES-1 inhibitors having <50 nM potencies in the A549 cellular assay and adequate metabolic stability in liver microsomes. Lead compounds 8l and 8m demonstrated reasonable in vitro pharmacology and pharmacokinetic properties over other compounds. In particular, 8m revealed satisfactory oral pharmacokinetics and bioavailability in multiple species like rat, guinea pig, dog and cynomolgus monkey. In addition, the representative compound 8m showed in vivo efficacy by inhibiting LPS-induced thermal hyperalgesia with an ED50 of 14.3 mg/kg in guinea pig.

Abstract
Background: Ovarian cancer is the third leading site of cancer among women, trailing behind cervix and breast cancer. Aim: This study was undertaken to analyze the immunohistochemical (IHC) profile of estrogen receptors (ER), progesterone receptors (PR), Ki-67, and p53 in various ovarian epithelial tumors and attempt correlation with clinical and histopathological findings. Materials and Methods: The present study was conducted over a period of 4 years. A technique of manual tissue array was employed for cases subjected for IHC. The primary antibodies used were ER, PR, p53, and Ki-67. A correlation was attempted between histopathological and IHC findings. Results were subjected to statistical analysis. Software program “the primer of biostatistics 5.0” was used for calculation of interrelationships between the analyzed ER, PR, p53, and Ki-67 expression and histological factors by Pearson's Chi-square test. The results were considered to be significant when the P < 0.05. Results: There were 110 cases of surface epithelial ovarian tumors (SEOT) encountered over the period of 4 years. The expression of ER was more in malignant tumors (13/16, 81.25%) than borderline (9/12, 75%) and benign (20/82, 24.39%). As compared to ER, the expression of PR was more in benign (51/82, 62.19%) than borderline (8/12, 66.67%) and malignant tumors (9/16, 56.25%). The expression of PR was more in benign tumors than borderline and malignant tumors. However, this was not statistically significant (Chi-square = 0.335 with 2 degrees of freedom; P = 0.846). The expression of p53 was less in benign (5/82, 6.1%) than borderline (9/12, 75%) and malignant tumors (13/16, 81.25%). The expression of Ki-67 was more in malignant (4/82, 4.88%) than borderline (10/12, 83.33%) and benign tumors (15/16, 93.75%). In all the above cases, the difference was statistically significant (P < 0.05). There was statistically significant difference in the expression of ER, PR, p53, and Ki-67 in the patients with age <40 years and above 40 years (P = 0.912). A positive correlation was observed in p53 expression and tumor grade. Similar correlation was seen in Ki-67 and tumor grade. It was also noted that mean Ki-67 labeling index (Li) had also increased with tumor grade. In the case of serous tumors, ER was expressed in all high- and low-grade tumors. The expression of PR was more in low-grade tumors than high-grade ones. P53 expression was seen in all high-grade tumors and 33.34% of low-grade tumor. The Ki-67 Li was more in high-grade tumors than low-grade tumors. Expression of ER, p53, and Ki-67 was higher in tumor showing metastasis. The mean Ki-67 Li was also higher in metastasizing tumors. However, PR expression was less in metastasizing tumors than nonmetastasizing tumors. Conclusion: IHC marker report of ER, PR status, and Ki-67 if included in each pathology report will pave the way for better understanding of biological behavior and modify treatment strategies.

Abstract
Abstract
Background: The modified pectoral nerves block (Pecs II) as a method of analgesia for breast cancer surgery has shown excellent results in recent publications. This technique blocks the long thoracic nerve, thoracic intercostal nerves from T2-T6 & thoracodorsal nerve.
Aims: To evaluate the effectiveness of the Pecs II block for pain relief in the postoperative period of patients undergoing modified radical mastectomy (MRM).
Methods: A prospective comparative study was conducted at our instituition between November 2014 and March 2015. Patients scheduled to undergo MRM were randomly assigned to the test group (endotracheal anaesthesia along with Pecs II) and the control group (endotracheal anaesthesia only). In the postoperative period the patients were evaluated using a visual analogue scale to determine pain scores at 6, 12 & 24 hours.
Results: Fifty patients (25 in each group), between the ages of 24 to 76 years (54.76 ± 10) were included in the study. There was no significant difference in ages between test & control groups. In the postoperative period, the test group had significantly lower median pain scores at 6, 12 & 24 hours as compared to the control group.

Abstract
Fine-needle aspirations (FNA) have played a crucial role in the diagnosis and follow-up of malignancies including sarcomas. However, relatively low specificity in the classification of sarcoma is the main limitation of FNA. Epithelioid sarcoma is a rare tumor of soft tissues. Very few individual case reports describing cytological features of epithelioid sarcoma have been documented in the literature. Here, we describe cytological features of epithelioid sarcoma with immunocytohistological correlation.

Abstract
In clinical practice, smooth muscle tumors of the vulva are rarely encountered. The histopathological subtype and grading is of utmost importance to the clinician and the patient. Diagnosis is based on clinical presentation, radiological, cyto-histological examination, and recently by application of immunohistochemical (IHC) markers. Leiomyomas occasionally occur with unusual patterns, making their identification more challenging clinically, radiologically, and cyto-histologically. We encountered a case of lipoleiomyoma of the vulva in a 38-year-old female. To the author's knowledge, this unusual variant of smooth muscle tumor, that is, lipoleiomyoma of the vulvar region has not been mentioned in the literature so far. The detailed clinical, cytomorphological, histopathological, and immunohistochemical study was carried out, which has prompted us to report this case.

Abstract
Breast cancer is one of the most common malignant tumors among females worldwide and remains a leading cause of cancer-related mortality. Due to the heterogeneous clinical nature of breast cancer, it is necessary to identify new biomarkers that are associated with tumor growth, angiogenesis and metastasis. Osteopontin (OPN) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) are known to be overexpressed in invasive breast cancer and their overexpression is associated with aggressive histological and clinical features. The present study assessed OPN and COX-2 expression in various subtypes of breast cancer. The expression of OPN and COX-2 was analyzed using immunohistochemistry (IHC) in a cohort of 67 invasive ductal breast carcinoma patients. The statistical analysis was performed using standard statistical software SPSS version 18.0. The associations between OPN and COX-2 and the human epidermal growth factor receptor type 2 (HER2)-overexpressing and non-HER2-overexpressing subtypes were evaluated using the Mann-Whitney U test. The mean OPN level was significantly higher in the HER2-overexpressing subtype compared with the non-HER2-overexpressing subtype. Furthermore, the mean COX-2 expression levels were higher in the HER2-overexpressing subtype compared with the luminal A, luminal B or triple-negative groups. It is well known that carcinomas overexpressing HER2/neu have a worse prognosis than luminal tumors. Hence, it may be hypothesized that an elevated expression of OPN and COX-2 in a HER2-overexpressing subtype may contribute to a more aggressive behavior and be used as diagnostic and prognostic markers in breast cancer.

Abstract
The South Asian site in the INTERGROWTH-21(st) Project was the city of Nagpur, in Maharashtra State, India, with approximately 4500 births per year among the target population with middle to high socio-economic status. These deliveries are mainly concentrated in 20 small private hospitals, most of which are in the city centre. The sample for the Newborn Cross-Sectional Study (NCSS) was drawn from ten of these hospitals, covering 76% of the target low-risk pregnant population. The Fetal Growth Longitudinal Study (FGLS) sample was recruited from the largest of these institutions, Ketkar Hospital, as well as several ancillary antenatal care clinics. Special activities to encourage participation and raise awareness of the study at this site included translating patient information leaflets into local languages and securing local media interest. Among the unique challenges of the Indian site was the coordination of the large number of hospitals involved in NCSS, a task that required careful planning and organisation by the field teams.

Abstract
Background
A simple and rapid stability-indicating, reversed phase ultra-performance liquid chromatography (UPLC) method was developed for the quantitative determination of lafutidine and its four potential impurities.
Results
Separation was achieved on Acquity BEH-shield RP18 UPLC column (3.0 mm × 100 mm, 1.7 μm) under the gradient mode of elution by using mobile phase A (0.02M diammonium hydrogen phosphate/acetonitrile, 80:20 v/v) and mobile phase B (0.02M diammonium hydrogen phosphate/acetonitrile, 30:70 v/v). The flow rate was maintained at 0.5 mL min−1. UV detection was carried out at 276 nm.
Conclusions
Stability-indicating capability of the developed method is established by analyzing forced degradation samples in which the spectral purity of lafutidine is ascertained along with the separation of degradation products from analyte peak. The developed UPLC method is validated as per International Conference on Harmonization guidelines with respect to system suitability, specificity, precision, sensitivity, accuracy, linearity, and robustness.

Abstract
A rare case of canine hepatozoonosis in a mongrel dog with para-clinico-pathological observations has been reported. The study included detailed haemato-biochemical changes at two stages, i.e. before treatment and after treatment with adopted therapy. Before therapy, blood picture revealed normocytic hypochromic anaemia and neutrophilic leucocytosis with variable counts of platelets. Thirty-seven percent of neutrophils were found infected with gametocytes of Hepatozoon canis. Following treatment, further decrease in haemoglobin value with a relative increase in lymphocyte count was seen. Biochemically, increase in alkaline phosphatase, blood urea nitrogen and creatinine levels along with hyperproteinemia was seen. The 14 days chemotherapy did not bring a respite for the dog and the level of parasitaemia was 33% after the treatment. The alkaline phosphatase and creatinine level further rose up following therapy with sulphadiazine and clindamycin. Continual study is required to explain the best possible therapeutic combination to deal H. canis.

Abstract
Differentially extended specific protection by two commercial vaccines against Yersinia ruckeri serotype O1 biotype 2 was studied following 30s immersion exposure. Rainbow trout were challenged intra-peritoneally (i.p.) with Y. ruckeri serotype O1, biotype 2 (≈10(6) to 10(7)CFU/fish) at 4, 6 and 8 months after vaccination with vaccines containing either biotype 1 (AquaVac(®) ERM) or both biotypes 1 and 2 (AquaVac(®) RELERA™). The specific pattern of vaccine-mediated protection was evaluated by relative percentage survival (RPS) analysis at 4 and 6 months post-vaccination and by obtaining gross pathological observations at 4 and 8 months respectively. We determined specific significant and superior protection in terms of increased survivability in AquaVac(®) RELERA™ vaccinated fish and observed correspondingly fewer pathological changes. The challenge trials indicated a longer protection for at least 6 months without any booster vaccination. A specific and adaptive response induced by AquaVac(®) RELERA™ vaccine against Y. ruckeri biotype 2 was clearly indicated. In addition, some degree of cross protection rendered by AquaVac(®) ERM containing biotype 1 during infection with Y. ruckeri biotype 2 was also noted.

Abstract
Incidence of drug-induced gastritis and ulceration in human medicine is well established. Besides, unilateral hemangioma, a unique concurrent case of tetracycline induced gastric toxicity in a dog, characterized by gastritis and ulceration is being reported here. Grossly, the appearance of gastric ulcers mimicked the appearance of Italian pizza. Histological examination further supported drug-induced etiology in this case. This is probably the one of the few cases in the annals of veterinary medicine to be documented as drug-induced gastric toxicity in dog.
