Socio-economic and corporate factors and COVID-19 pandemic: a wake-up call

The novel coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) emerges from the Chinese city Wuhan and its spread to the rest of the world, primarily affected economies and their businesses, leading to a global depression. The explanatory and cross-sectional regression approach assesses the impact of COVID-19 cases on healthcare expenditures, logistics performance index, carbon damages, and corporate social responsibility in a panel of 77 countries. The results show that COVID-19 cases substantially increase healthcare expenditures and decrease corporate social responsibility. On the other hand, an increase in the coronavirus testing capacity brings positive change in reducing healthcare expenditures, increased logistics activities, and corporate social responsibility. The cost of carbon emissions increases when corporate activities begin to resume. The economic affluence supports logistics activities and improves healthcare infrastructure. It linked to international cooperation and their assistance to supply healthcare logistics traded equipment through mutual trade agreements. The greater need to enhance global trade and healthcare logistics supply helps minimize the sensitive coronavirus cases that are likely to provide a safe and healthy environment for living.

Understanding Knowledgeable Workers' Behavior Toward COVID-19 Information Sharing Through WhatsApp in Pakistan

Using social media through mobile has become a major source of disseminating information; however, the motivations that impact social media users’ intention and actual information-sharing behavior need further examination. To this backdrop, drawing on the uses and gratifications theory, theory of prosocial behavior, and theory of planned behavior, we aim to examine various motivations toward information-sharing behaviors in a specific context [coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19)]. We collected data from 388 knowledgeable workers through Google Forms and applied structural equation modeling to test the hypotheses. We noted that individuals behave seriously toward crisis-related information, as they share COVID-19 information on WhatsApp not only to be entertained and seek status or information but also to help others. Further, we noted norms of reciprocation, habitual diversion, and socialization as motivators that augment WhatsApp users’ positive attitude toward COVID-19 information-sharing behavior.

Socio-economic and environmental factors influenced pro-poor growth process: new development triangle

The developmental triangle earlier comprises economic growth, income inequality, and poverty, while in this study, we extended it by incorporating environmental and resource factors, health and education factors, sectoral value added, and some other growth-specific factors for assessing pro-poor growth, by considering Bolivian economy as a case study. The elasticity estimates show that agriculture and industrial sector growth is not pro-poor due to account of high income inequality, while services sector played a vital role in country's economic development and supports poor livelihood in a country. Energy and environmental resources negatively impact on quality of life of the poor relative to non-poor, which create income differences among them. Health and education expenditures give favors to the poor and supported the notion of pro-poor growth, while country's per capita income and foreign direct investment inflows increase income inequality that lead towards pro-rich growth. The results conclude that, in general, Bolivian economy growth is fairly unstable, polluted, and unhealthy that biased to the poor relative to non-poor.

Saudi Arabia-China-Pakistan Economic Corridor: intergovernmental green initiatives

The objective of the study is to conduct the socio-economic and environmental survey about the feasibility of Saudi Arabia-China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (SCPEC) in five different dimensions, i.e., (i) key strengths of SCPEC project, (ii) prospective weaknesses of SCPEC project, (iii) opportunities attain Pakistan from SCPEC project, (iv) opportunities gain SCPEC from Pakistan, and (v) possible threats from SCPEC to other countries, including India. The larger number of intellects participated in this survey, including armed personnel working in strategic industries, academicians of higher education institutes, colleges, and public/private schools, doctors, civil servants, employees of non-governmental organizations, and others. The survey identified five major key strengths, including tourism promotion, infrastructure development, technology diffusion, energy demand, and mutual trade gains, while the prospective weaknesses are financial constraints, political instability, international dumping, corruption, and lack of good governance. The survey results show that Pakistan economy could attain maximum opportunities from SCPEC project in the form of economic empowerment, mutual trade gains, transportation development, entrepreneurship, and development of Gwadar port, while the SCPEC project gains from Pakistan in the form of economic stabilization, trade gains, and low transportation cost. The possible threats to SCPEC project to the other countries including India are political threats, security issues, Kashmir issue, and economic issues. The survey results conclude that the large number of intellects confirmed the positivity of SCPEC project for both the Pakistan and for the Chinese economy, while few intellects in numbers are incompatible with the SCPEC project due to economic, environmental, and security threats.
