Abstract
We report here about two novel tumours classified as extraventricular neurocytomas (EVN) using DNA-methylation profiling, associated with NTRK2 fusions instead of the usual FGFR1 alterations so far attributed to this tumoural entity. We present the second detailed case of an intraventricular presentation in the MC EVN. Our findings broaden the spectrum of MC EVN and have implications in terms of diagnosis, therapy and terminology.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE Traditionally, the diagnosis of acute rejection (AR) relies on invasive transbronchial biopsies (TBBs) to obtain histopathological samples. We aimed to evaluate the diagnostic yield of probe-based confocal laser endomicroscopy (pCLE) as a complementary and non-invasive tool for ACR screening, comparing its results with those obtained from TBBs. METHODS Between January 2015 and April 2022, we conducted a retrospective study of all lung transplant recipients aged over 18 years at Toulouse University Hospital (France). All patients who underwent bronchoscopies with both TBBs and pCLE imaging were included. Two experienced interpreters (TV and MS) reviewed the pCLE images independently, blinded to all clinical information and pathology results. RESULTS From 120 procedures in 85 patients, 34 abnormal histological samples were identified. Probe-based confocal laser endomicroscopy revealed significant associations between both alveolar (ALC) and perivascular (PVC) cellularities and abnormal histological samples (p<0.0001 and 0.003 respectively). Alveolar cellularity demonstrated a sensitivity (Se) of 85.3 %, specificity (Spe) of 43 %, positive predictive value (PPV) of 37.2 % and negative predictive value (NPV) of 88.1 %. For PVC, Se was 70.6 %, Spe 80.2 %, PPV 58.5 % and NPV 87.3 %. Intra-interpreter correlation (TV) was 88.3 % for the number of vessels (+/-1), 98.3 % for ALC and 90 % for PVC. Inter-interpreter correlation (TV and MS) was 80 % for vessels (+/-1), 97.5 % for ALC and 83.3 % for PVC. CONCLUSION Our study demonstrates the feasibility of incorporating pCLE into clinical practice, demonstrating good diagnostic yield and reproducible outcomes in the screening of AR in lung transplant recipients.

Abstract
Introduction Gene fusion testing of ALK, ROS1, RET, NTRK, and MET exon 14 skipping mutations is guideline recommended in nonsquamous NSCLC (NS-NSCLC). Nevertheless, assessment is often hindered by the limited availability of tissue and prolonged next-generation sequencing (NGS) testing, which can protract the initiation of a targeted therapy. Therefore, the development of faster gene fusion assessment is critical for optimal clinical decision-making. Here, we compared two ultrafast gene fusion assays (UFGFAs) using NGS (Genexus, Oncomine Precision Assay, Thermo Fisher Scientific) and a multiplex reverse-transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (Idylla, GeneFusion Assay, Biocartis) approach at diagnosis in a retrospective series of 195 NS-NSCLC cases and five extrapulmonary tumors with a known NTRK fusion. Methods A total of 195 NS-NSCLC cases (113 known gene fusions and 82 wild-type tumors) were included retrospectively. To validate the detection of a NTRK fusion, we added five NTRK-positive extrathoracic tumors. The diagnostic performance of the two UFGFAs and standard procedures was compared. Results The accuracy was 92.3% and 93.1% for Idylla and Genexus, respectively. Both systems improved the sensitivity for detection by including a 5'-3' imbalance analysis. Although detection of ROS1, MET exon 14 skipping, and RET was excellent with both systems, ALK fusion detection was reduced with sensitivities of 87% and 88%, respectively. Idylla had a limited sensitivity of 67% for NTRK fusions, in which only an imbalance assessment was used. Conclusions UFGFA using NGS and reverse-transcriptase polymerase chain reaction approaches had an equal level of detection of gene fusion but with some technique-specific limitations. Nevertheless, UFGFA detection in routine clinical care is feasible with both systems allowing faster initiation of therapy and a broad degree of screening.

Abstract
Intrinsic resistance to current therapies, leading to dismal clinical outcomes, is a hallmark of glioblastoma multiforme (GBM), the most common and aggressive brain tumor. Understanding the underlying mechanisms of such malignancy is, therefore, an urgent medical need. Deregulation of the protein translation machinery has been shown to contribute to cancer initiation and progression, in part by driving selective translational control of specific mRNA transcripts involved in distinct cancer cell behaviors. Here, we focus on eIF3, a multimeric complex with a known role in the initiation of translation and that is frequently deregulated in cancer. Our results show that the deregulated expression of eIF3e, the e subunit of eIF3, in specific GBM regions could impinge on selective protein synthesis impacting the GBM outcome. In particular, eIF3e restricts the expression of proteins involved in the response to cellular stress and increases the expression of key functional regulators of cell stemness. Such a translation program can therefore serve as a double-edged sword promoting GBM tumor growth and resistance to radiation.

Abstract
Histiocytic sarcoma (HS) is a rare aggressive hematologic neoplasm that can be associated with low-grade B cell lymphoma. The development of both neoplasms is currently being considered a transdifferentiation mechanism but remains elusive. We report the case of a 65-year-old patient with synchronous development of peritoneal/abdominal HS and grade 1-2 follicular lymphoma (FL). Cytogenetic analysis and targeted next-generation sequencing of both FL and HS tumors identified common genomic alterations such as IGH-BCL2 rearrangement, CREBBP and KMT2D, and aberrations of chromosomes 9q and 19q. However, only the HS tumor had a KRAS mutation while the lymph node involved by FL harbored a TNFAIP3 mutation and both tumors also showed distinct chromosomal alterations. This report strengthens the hypothesis of a common lymphoid progenitor which accumulates genetic alterations leading to two different hematologic malignant diseases with significantly distinct prognoses.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Mastocytosis is characterized by the accumulation/proliferation of abnormal mast cells. The frequency of isolated cutaneous involvement in adults with mastocytosis has not been fully determined. The main objective of our study was to assess the frequency of isolated cutaneous mastocytosis (CM) in adults with mastocytosis skin lesions. The second objective was to compare the clinical, histological, biological and imaging features in patients with isolated CM and patients with systemic mastocytosis (SM). METHODS We included all patients with histology-proven mastocytosis skin lesions between January 2009 and December 2017. The mastocytosis diagnosis was made according to the international diagnostic criteria. All data were collected from a dedicated specific case report. RESULTS Among 160 patients with mastocytosis skin lesions, 25 patients had isolated CM (15.6%), 105 had SM and 30 (18.7%) patients had undetermined mastocytosis. Skin KIT mutation (OR: 51.9, 95% CI: 3.9-678, P = 0.001) and high bone marrow tryptase (OR: 97.4, 95% CI: 10.3-915, P = 0.001) were strong predictors of SM. The prevalence of osteoporosis was higher in the SM population than in the isolated CM population. Moreover, a decrease in bone mineral density over a short period of follow-up (1-2 years) was associated with SM. There were no differences between the two groups regarding the frequency of mast cell activation symptoms, the presentation of skin lesions, the number of mast cells in the dermis and the level of serum tryptase. We propose considering the KIT mutation status and bone marrow tryptase levels to aid the diagnosis of isolated CM in adult mastocytosis patients. CONCLUSION Only a small minority of adults with mastocytosis skin lesions has isolated cutaneous involvement. In 18.7% of mastocytosis cases, even complete workup does not allow for a precise classification of patients.

Abstract
Glioblastomas (GB) are malignant brain tumors with poor prognosis despite treatment with surgery and radio/chemotherapy. These tumors are defined by an important cellular heterogeneity and notably contain a subpopulation of GB-initiating cells (GIC), which contribute to tumor aggressiveness, resistance, and recurrence. Some integrins are specifically expressed by GICs and could be actionable targets to improve GB treatment. Here, integrin β8 (ITGB8) was identified as a potential selective target in this highly tumorigenic GIC subpopulation. Using several patient-derived primocultures, it was demonstrated that ITGB8 is overexpressed in GICs compared with their differentiated progeny. Furthermore, ITGB8 is also overexpressed in GB, and its overexpression is correlated with poor prognosis and with the expression of several other classic stem cell markers. Moreover, inhibiting ITGB8 diminished several main GIC characteristics and features, including self-renewal ability, stemness, migration potential, and tumor formation capacity. Blockade of ITGB8 significantly impaired GIC cell viability via apoptosis induction. Finally, the combination of radiotherapy and ITGB8 targeting radiosensitized GICs through postmitotic cell death. IMPLICATIONS: This study identifies ITGB8 as a new selective marker for GICs and as a promising therapeutic target in combination with chemo/radiotherapy for the treatment of highly aggressive brain tumors.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Hepatitis E virus (HEV) is a major cause of acute hepatitis worldwide. However, our understanding of the source of contamination is incomplete and the frequency of neurological manifestations in still unknown. METHODS 200 eligible cases reported to the French National Reference Center from January 2015 to December 2015 were prospectively included in this case-control study (1 case: 1 control, matched for sex, age and area of living) to investigate the risk of infection. We documented the factors associated with their HEV infection and clinical manifestations. RESULTS The 200 HEV-infected patients included 137 who were immunocompetent and 63 immunocompromised. The factors associated with an HEV infection were contact with farm animals, eating pork liver sausage and eating unpeeled fruit. The 33 patients (16.5%) who reported neurological symptoms included 14 with neuropathic pain suggesting small fiber neuropathy, 9 with painless sensory disorders, 6 with Parsonage-Turner syndrome, one Guillain-Barre syndrome, one meningitis, one encephalitis and one diplopia. Neurological manifestations were more frequent in immunocompetent patients (22.6% vs 3.2%, p < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS This study highlights the risk of HEV transmission by the environment in industrialized countries. The higher frequency of neurological disorders in immunocompetent patients suggests pathophysiological mechanisms involving the immune system.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY To test whether a direct-on-site microscopic examination of fresh, unstained puncture slides by the radiologist decreases the rate of false-negative cases on ultrasound-guided fine-needle cytology of parotid gland masses. PATIENTS Thirty parotid gland masses from 28 patients were punctured under ultrasound guidance. The same group was used as its control group. METHODS After one or two passes, the material was spread on slides and air-dried (control group, without microscopic examination). For the study group, it was thus analyzed unstained under the microscope. A sample was considered adequate if at least six clusters of parotid cells were found per slide on at least two slides. For the study group, new punctures were obtained and slides prepared until this condition was fulfilled. RESULTS Of the 30 evaluated masses, 100% benefited from a cytological diagnosis after microscopy. Twenty-four were adequate in the control group, while 30 were adequate in the study group. The maximum number of punctures to obtain an adequate sample was six. On-site direct microscopy significantly increased the number of adequate specimens by 20% (P=0.03, CI [1.63-20%]). CONCLUSION Direct and systematic examination of slides by a radiologist avoided the risk of false-negative results caused by having insufficient sample material.

Abstract
Providing information to living donors is first and foremost a legal obligation as well as an ethical one, not to mention necessary to health care provision. It's been shown that quality of information concerning the procedure's practical aspects, scheduling of clinical tests and examinations, withdrawing stem cells for the donation, post-donation symptoms, and support provided by healthcare teams, directly impacts the donor's quality of experience. Taking this into consideration our group decided it was essential to create an informational support for donors in the form of a booklet to be provided in different hematopoietic stem cell transplant centers across France. In September 2016 in Lille, France, the Francophone Society of Bone Marrow Transplantation and Cellular Therapy (SFGM-TC) organized the 7th allergenic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation clinical practices harmonization workshops. As part of these workshops, our group worked collectively to develop a basis of indispensable information to be included in the booklet and presented using clear and accessible language.

Abstract
Twenty-four patients presenting an acute stroke with watershed cerebral infarct on CT scan or MRI were included in this retrospective study. Age was 63 +/- 14 years (mean +/- SD), and sex ratio was 2 men for 1 woman. Main clinical features were: in anterior location, lower limb weakness and frontal syndrome with transcortical motor aphasia in left lesions or spatial dyscalculia in right ones; in posterior location, brachiofacial weakness with constant quadranopsia and hypoesthesia, and Gerstmann syndrome in left lesion. There was no distinctive feature for subcortical and multiple infarcts. In bilateral infarcts, there were one pseudobulbar syndrome, and 2 pseudo brainstem syndromes with neuropsychological signs. Aetiologies were severe carotid artery disease in 14 cases, severe cardiopathy in 6, isolated cerebral angiitis in 1, essential thrombocythemia in 1, protein C deficiency with sickle cell disease in 1, and cholesterol emboli in 1 anatomical case. CBF performed in carotid artery occlusions or tight stenoses showed evidence of haemodynamic changes. Microembolic process can be proposed in the case with cholesterol emboli. Preventive treatment is discussed.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The presence of atypical cells in urine cytology is unsatisfactory for both cytologists and clinicians. The objective of this study was to test whether p53 and Ki-67 immunostaining could improve urothelial carcinoma (UC) detection on urinary cytology. METHODS A total of 196 urine samples were analysed, 142 from the bladder, 41 from the upper tract and 13 from ileal bladder replacement. Cytology results were expressed as normal (N) (n = 81), atypia cannot exclude low-grade UC (ALG) (n = 25), suspicious for high-grade UC (SHG) (n = 39) and high-grade UC (HG) (n = 51). Actual diagnoses were confirmed by histopathological analysis, cystoscopic examination or follow-up for at least 1 year. Immunocytochemistry performed on CytoSpin™ slides allowed the determination of the percentage of positive cells with p53 and Ki-67. RESULTS The median percentage values [first to third quartile] of p53 and Ki-67 were 0 [0-5] and 0 [0-1] for N cytology, 5 [0-40] and 2 [1-10] for ALG, 10 [0-30] and 6 [3-25] for SHG, and 30 [10-80] and 20 [10-30] for HG, respectively. Statistically higher values were observed for both tests (P < 0.001) in positive cytologies (ALG, SHG and HG). The optimal cut-offs were 5% for p53 and 3% for Ki-67. The sensitivity and specificity for the detection of all UC were 86.4% and 76.7% for cytology alone, 81.3% and 93.2% for cytology and p53, 75.7% and 88% for cytology and Ki-67, and 68.9% and 97.5% for cytology, p53 and Ki-67, respectively. CONCLUSION Using p53 and/or Ki-67 in addition to cytology increases the specificity without penalising the sensitivity.

Abstract
FGF2 signaling in glioblastoma induces resistance to radiotherapy, so targeting FGF2/FGFR pathways might offer a rational strategy for tumor radiosensitization. To investigate this possibility, we evaluated a specific role for FGFR1 in glioblastoma radioresistance as modeled by U87 and LN18 glioblastomas in mouse xenograft models. Silencing FGFR1 decreased radioresistance in a manner associated with radiation-induced centrosome overduplication and mitotic cell death. Inhibiting PLCγ (PLCG1), a downstream effector signaling molecule for FGFR1, was sufficient to produce similar effects, arguing that PLCγ is an essential mediator of FGFR1-induced radioresistance. FGFR1 silencing also reduced expression of HIF1α, which in addition to its roles in hypoxic responses exerts an independent effect on radioresistance. Finally, FGFR1 silencing delayed the growth of irradiated tumor xenografts, in a manner that was associated with reduced HIF1α levels but not blood vessel alterations. Taken together, our results offer a preclinical proof of concept that FGFR1 targeting can degrade radioresistance in glioblastoma, a widespread problem in this tumor, prompting clinical investigations of the use of FGFR1 inhibitors for radiosensitization. Abstract
INTRODUCTION Interventional cardiology procedures are regularly exposed to ischemic neurological complications. IV fibrinolysis is the only approved treatment in ischemic stroke but is very often contraindicated in these situations. Many techniques of interventional neuroradiology (mechanical thrombectomy) have been developed over the past years and are used to treat these patients. OBSERVATION We report the case of two patients who were admitted in emergency for ischemic stroke with contraindication to IV fibrinolysis (cardioversion for atrial fibrillation under anticoagulation; 24 hours after carotid surgery). These patients were treated by endovascular thrombectomy procedure. DISCUSSION After validation of IV fibrinolysis within 4.5 hours after stroke onset, techniques of mechanical thrombectomy have gradually been developed, either as a complementary treatment or as an alternative in the case of CI to fibrinolysis. These endovascular thrombectomy devices currently allow recanalization of proximal cerebral occlusions, which correlates with a favorable clinical prognosis. A review of the literature is provided, along with a discussion about the techniques currently being improved, their advantages and disadvantages and the selection of patients that can benefit from endovascular procedures. CONCLUSION In the case of a sudden occurrence of a neurological deficit during a cardiovascular procedure, a "thrombolysis alert" should be triggered. This will permit the rapid establishment of a clinico-radiological report for selecting stroke patients eligible for a procedure of recanalization by thrombolysis and/or mechanical thrombectomy.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Liver metastases (LM) in close contact to hepatic veins (HV) are a frequent cause of unresectability. Reconstruction of hepatic veins is technically difficult and outcomes are poor. Intra-operative radiofrequency ablation (IRFA) with vascular exclusion (VE) may be a useful approach. METHODS Out of 358 patients operated for LM, 22 with LM close to a HV treated by IRFA under VE with at least one year of follow-up were included in this retrospective study. Technical success was evaluated at four months by CT scan of the ablated lesion. Complications; local, hepatic and extra-hepatic recurrence rates, and overall survival are reported. RESULTS The median number of metastases was 4.5 [range: 1-12]. Seventeen patients had bilateral metastases. The median size of ablated lesions was 2 cm [range: 1-5.5]. Seven complications occurred (1 Grade 1, 2 Grade 3b and 4 Grade IVa), with no mortality. No recurrence of ablated lesions was detected at four months or during follow-up. Seventeen patients had new or extra-hepatic lesions. Median overall survival for colorectal patients was 40 months 95%CI[17.5-not reached]. CONCLUSIONS IRFA plus VE for LM in close contact to a HV is a novel approach, appearing to be a safe and effective technique which can extend the applications of liver metastases surgery.

Abstract
Abstract
Background
Despite neoadjuvant chemotherapy, few patients with colorectal cancer liver metastases (CRLM) are eligible for liver resection. The aim of the present study was to investigate the efficacy of intraoperative radiofrequency ablation (IRFA) in the treatment of unresectable CRLM.
Methods
Patients with unresectable metastases confined to the liver were eligible for this prospective, multicentre phase II study conducted between 2003 and 2008. They received IRFA treatment either with or without parenchymal resection, and underwent clinical and pathological examinations. The primary endpoint was complete hepatic response at 3 months. Overall, event-free and local progression-free survival, morbidity and quality of life were also examined.
Results
Fifty-two patients were included, all of whom received neoadjuvant chemotherapy. They had a median of 5 (range 1–13) metastases, mostly bilateral or recurrent. A complete hepatic response was observed in 39 patients (75 (95 per cent confidence interval (c.i.) 61 to 86) per cent). Of ten patients with hepatic recurrence at 3 months, two relapses were at the site of ablation. Median follow-up was 2·9 (95 per cent c.i. 2·5 to 3·6) years. The 1-year local progression-free survival rate was 46 (95 per cent c.i. 32 to 59) per cent, the 3-year event-free survival rate was 10 (95 per cent c.i. 4 to 21) per cent and the 5-year overall survival rate was 43 (95 per cent c.i. 21 to 64) per cent. Twenty patients had postoperative complications, including one death. Quality of life increased over time for patients without disease progression.
Conclusion
IRFA, either with or without resection, is a promising treatment option for patients with unresectable CRLM. Registration number: NTC00210106 (http://www.clinicaltrials.gov).

Higher harmonic anisotropic flow measurements of charged particles in Pb-Pb collisions at sqrt(s(NN)) = 2.76 TeV. Phys Rev Lett 2011; 107:032301. Abstract
We report on the first measurement of the triangular v3, quadrangular v4, and pentagonal v5 charged particle flow in Pb-Pb collisions at sqrt(s(NN)) = 2.76 TeV measured with the ALICE detector at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. We show that the triangular flow can be described in terms of the initial spatial anisotropy and its fluctuations, which provides strong constraints on its origin. In the most central events, where the elliptic flow v2 and v3 have similar magnitude, a double peaked structure in the two-particle azimuthal correlations is observed, which is often interpreted as a Mach cone response to fast partons. We show that this structure can be naturally explained from the measured anisotropic flow Fourier coefficients.

Abstract
The centrality dependence of the charged-particle multiplicity density at midrapidity in Pb-Pb collisions at sqrt[s_{NN}]=2.76 TeV is presented. The charged-particle density normalized per participating nucleon pair increases by about a factor of 2 from peripheral (70%-80%) to central (0%-5%) collisions. The centrality dependence is found to be similar to that observed at lower collision energies. The data are compared with models based on different mechanisms for particle production in nuclear collisions.

Abstract
We report the first measurement of charged particle elliptic flow in Pb-Pb collisions at sqrt[S(NN)] =2.76 TeV with the ALICE detector at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. The measurement is performed in the central pseudorapidity region (|η|<0.8) and transverse momentum range 0.2<p t<5.0 GeV/c. The elliptic flow signal v₂, measured using the 4-particle correlation method, averaged over transverse momentum and pseudorapidity is 0.087 ± 0.002(stat) ± 0.003(syst) in the 40%-50% centrality class. The differential elliptic flow v₂ p t reaches a maximum of 0.2 near p t =3 GeV/c. Compared to RHIC Au-Au collisions at sqrt[S(NN)] 200 GeV, the elliptic flow increases by about 30%. Some hydrodynamic model predictions which include viscous corrections are in agreement with the observed increase.

Abstract
The first measurement of the charged-particle multiplicity density at midrapidity in Pb-Pb collisions at a center-of-mass energy per nucleon pair √ S NN = 2.76 TeV is presented. For an event sample corresponding to the most central 5% of the hadronic cross section, the pseudorapidity density of primary charged particles at midrapidity is 1584 ± 4(stat) ± 76(syst), which corresponds to 8.3 ± 0.4(syst) per participating nucleon pair. This represents an increase of about a factor 1.9 relative to pp collisions at similar collision energies, and about a factor 2.2 to central Au-Au collisions at √ S NN = 2.76 TeV. This measurement provides the first experimental constraint for models of nucleus-nucleus collisions at LHC energies.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE We examined whether plasma levels of angiogenic factors are altered in plasma of patients with peripheral arterial disease (PAD) and whether these factors affect endothelial progenitor cell-induced angiogenesis. METHODS AND RESULTS Plasma was collected from 184 patients with PAD and 330 age-matched healthy controls. Vascular endothelial growth factor and placental growth factor concentrations did not differ between the groups, whereas we found a linear correlation between PAD disease and thrombospondin (TSP)-1 plasma level. TSP-1 was expressed in newly formed vessels in PAD patients having received local injections of bone marrow mononuclear cells. To analyze the functional role of TSP-1 during neoangiogenesis, we used a Matrigel-plug assay and showed that vascularization of implanted Matrigel-plugs was increased in TSP-1(-/-) mice. Moreover, injections of TSP-1 in C57Bl6/J mice after hindlimb ischemia induced a significant decrease of blood flow recovery. To investigate the effects of TSP-1 on human endothelial colony-forming cell (ECFC) angiogenic potential, recombinant human TSP-1 and a small interfering RNA were used. In vitro, TSP-1 N-terminal part significantly enhanced ECFC adhesion, whereas recombinant human TSP-1 had a negative effect on ECFC angiogenic potential. This effect, mediated by CD47 binding, modulated stromal cell-derived factor 1/CXC chemokine receptor 4 pathway. CONCLUSIONS TSP-1 is a potential biomarker of PAD and ECFC-induced angiogenesis, suggesting that TSP-1 modulation might improve local tissue ischemia in this setting. Abstract
OBJECTIVE To determine the role of Wnt antagonist Dickkopf (DKK) 1 in human endothelial colony-forming cells (ECFCs) in view of the emerging importance of Wnt pathways in vascular biology. METHODS AND RESULTS Endothelial progenitor cells have been proposed to be crucial in tumor neovascularization. Recombinant DKK1 has been tested in ECFC angiogenic properties in vitro. DKK1 enhanced ECFC proliferation and the capacity of ECFCs to form pseudotubes in Matrigel. These effects have been attributed to enhancement of vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2, SDF-1, and CXCR4. DKK1 gene silencing has been realized on ECFCs and mesenchymal stem cells, and we found that DKK1 silencing in the 2 cell types decreased their angiogenic potential. We then examined the possible role of DKK1 in tumor neovasculogenesis and found that blood vessels of breast cancer tissues expressed DKK1 far more strongly in human breast tumors than in normal breast tissues. By studying 62 human breast tumors, we found a significant positive correlation between DKK1 expression and von Willebrand factor. In vivo, DKK1 strongly enhanced the vascularization of Matrigel plugs and increased tumor size in a xenograft model of human breast carcinoma in nude mice. CONCLUSIONS DKK1 enhances angiogenic properties of ECFCs in vitro and is required for ECFC and mesenchymal stem cell angiogenic phenotypes in vivo. DKK1 also increases tumoral angiogenesis. Thus, we demonstrated a major role of DKK1 in angiogenic processes.

Abstract
The ratio of the yields of antiprotons to protons in pp collisions has been measured by the ALICE experiment at sqrt[s]=0.9 and 7 TeV during the initial running periods of the Large Hadron Collider. The measurement covers the transverse momentum interval 0.45<p_{t}<1.05 GeV/c and rapidity |y|<0.5. The ratio is measured to be R_{|y|<0.5}=0.957±0.006(stat)±0.014(syst) at 0.9 TeV and R_{|y|<0.5}=0.991±0.005(stat)±0.014(syst) at 7 TeV and it is independent of both rapidity and transverse momentum. The results are consistent with the conventional model of baryon-number transport and set stringent limits on any additional contributions to baryon-number transfer over very large rapidity intervals in pp collisions.

Covered stents are better than uncovered stents for transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunts in cirrhotic patients with refractory ascites: a retrospective cohort study. Abstract
BACKGROUND AND STUDY AIMS Transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) is an accepted interventional technique to treat refractory ascites in cirrhotic patients with severe portal hypertension. The expanded-polytetrafluoroethylene (e-PTFE) covered stent-graft (cs-TIPS) gives a better shunt patency rate than uncovered stents (ncs-TIPS). Our aim was to retrospectively evaluate whether cs-TIPS indeed improves refractory ascites and overall survival in a more effective way than ncs-TIPS in patients with cirrhosis. PATIENTS AND METHODS From 1992 to 2006, 222 cirrhotic patients with refractory ascites underwent a TIPS-procedure. In 126 patients a ncs-TIPS was inserted, in the remaining 96 patients a csTIPS was inserted. Liver transplantation and/or death were the end points of the follow-up. RESULTS The baseline characteristics of both groups were similar: age (55 +/- 11 years, ncs-TIPS/56 +/- 10 years, cs-TIPS), alcoholic cirrhosis (73% ncs-TIPS/80% cs-TIPS), Child-Pugh (9 +/- 2.0 ncs-TIPS/9.2 +/- 1.3 cs-TIPS) and MELD (15 +/- 6 ncs-TIPS/15 +/- 4.9 cs-TIPS), except that the bilirubin level was higher in the cs-TIPS group (2.5 +/- 2.7 mg/dL in cs-TIPS vs. 1.5 +/- 3.6 mg/dL in ncs-TIPS). One year shunt dysfunction occurred in 49% (n=63) of the ncs-TIPS vs. 19% (n = 18) of the cs-TIPS (P < 0.0001) and post TIPS encephalopathy in 56% (n=70) of the ncs-TIPS vs. 22% (n = 22) in the cs-TIPS group. Ascites control and overall survival were better in the cs-TIPS (P = 0.0071). The gain in survival in the cs-TIPS patients occurred especially in patients with a baseline MELD score <16 (P < 0.0001). Post TIPS encephalopathy and ncs-TIPS were independently related with poor survival (P < 0.0001, P = 0.0150; respectively). CONCLUSIONS In cirrhotic patients with refractory ascites cs-TIPS offers better symptomatic control of the ascites at one year follow-up and a better overall survival, especially in patients with a MELD score of <16 at baseline.
