Recent Progress in Covalent Organic Frameworks for Cathode Materials

Covalent organic frameworks (COFs) are constructed from small organic molecules through reversible covalent bonds, and are therefore considered a special type of polymer. Small organic molecules are divided into nodes and connectors based on their roles in the COF's structure. The connector generally forms reversible covalent bonds with the node through two reactive end groups. The adjustment of the length of the connector facilitates the adjustment of pore size. Due to the diversity of organic small molecules and reversible covalent bonds, COFs have formed a large family since their synthesis in 2005. Among them, a type of COF containing redox active groups such as -C=O-, -C=N-, and -N=N- has received widespread attention in the field of energy storage. The ordered crystal structure of COFs ensures the ordered arrangement and consistent size of pores, which is conducive to the formation of unobstructed ion channels, giving these COFs a high-rate performance and a long cycle life. The voltage and specific capacity jointly determine the energy density of cathode materials. For the COFs' cathode materials, the voltage plateau of their active sites' VS metallic lithium is mostly between 2 and 3 V, which has great room for improvement. However, there is currently no feasible strategy for this. Therefore, previous studies mainly improved the theoretical specific capacity of the COFs' cathode materials by increasing the number of active sites. We have summarized the progress in the research on these types of COFs in recent years and found that the redox active functional groups of these COFs can be divided into six subcategories. According to the different active functional groups, these COFs are also divided into six subcategories. Here, we summarize the structure, synthesis unit, specific surface area, specific capacity, and voltage range of these cathode COFs.

Near-Infrared Organic Photodetectors toward Skin-Integrated Photoplethysmography-Electrocardiography Multimodal Sensing System

In the fast-evolving landscape of decentralized and personalized healthcare, the need for multimodal biosensing systems that integrate seamlessly with the human body is growing rapidly. This presents a significant challenge in devising ultraflexible configurations that can accommodate multiple sensors and designing high-performance sensing components that remain stable over long periods. To overcome these challenges, ultraflexible organic photodetectors (OPDs) that exhibit exceptional performance under near-infrared illumination while maintaining long-term stability are developed. These ultraflexible OPDs demonstrate a photoresponsivity of 0.53 A W-1 under 940 nm, shot-noise-limited specific detectivity of 3.4 × 1013 Jones, and cut-off response frequency beyond 1 MHz at -3 dB. As a result, the flexible photoplethysmography sensor boasts a high signal-to-noise ratio and stable peak-to-peak amplitude under hypoxic and hypoperfusion conditions, outperforming commercial finger pulse oximeters. This ensures precise extraction of blood oxygen saturation in dynamic working conditions. Ultraflexible OPDs are further integrated with conductive polymer electrodes on an ultrathin hydrogel substrate, allowing for direct interface with soft and dynamic skin. This skin-integrated sensing platform provides accurate measurement of photoelectric and biopotential signals in a time-synchronized manner, reproducing the functionality of conventional technologies without their inherent limitations.

A Microlens Array Grating for Miniature Multi-Channel Spectrometers

Most existing multi-channel spectrometers are constructed by physically stacking single-channel spectrometers, resulting in their large size, high weight, and limited number of channels. Therefore, their miniaturization is urgently needed. In this paper, a microlens array grating is designed for miniature multi-channel spectrometers. A transmissive element integrating microlens arrays and gratings, the MLAG, enables simultaneous focusing and dispersion. Using soft lithography, the MLAG was fabricated with a deviation of less than 2.2%. The dimensions are 10 mm × 10 mm × 4 mm with over 2000 available units. The MLAG spectrometer operates in the 400-700 nm wavelength range with a resolution of 6 nm. Additionally, the designed MLAG multi-channel spectrometer is experimentally verified to have independently valid cells that can be used in multichannel spectrometers. The wavelength position repeatability deviation of each cell is about 0.5 nm, and the repeatability of displacement measurements by the chromatic confocal sensor with the designed MLAG multi-channel spectrometer is less than 0.5 μm.

A Hybrid Strategy for Profile Measurement of Micro Gear Teeth

A hybrid strategy is proposed to meet the challenge of obtaining the profile of micro gear teeth with a small modulus. Firstly, the contact probe segmentally obtained the falling flank profiles with an auxiliary lifting mechanism to avoid interference when it climbs on the rising slope. Then, the noncontact chromatic confocal displacement sensor efficiently acquired the gear peak positions to carry out the two-point error separation with the gear peak positions from the probe measurement. Finally, actual experiments were carried out to obtain the profile of a harmonic drive flexspline. Compared with the commercial ultraprecise profiler, the proposed method provides measurement results with a deviation of less than 20 μm. In conclusion, the hybrid strategy is feasible and accurate for drawing the micro gear teeth profile without any collision between the measuring probes and the measured workpiece.
