Abstract
OBJECTIVE The objective was to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of using umbilical cord blood pH (UC-pH) in combination with APGAR score for neonatal asphyxia, in terms of high-risk pregnancies, compared to using the APGAR score only. Neonatal outcomes and the proportions of patients admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) were evaluated. METHODS A cost-effectiveness ambispective analysis study was carried out, comparing (i) UC-pH combined with APGAR score and (ii) APGAR score only in 399 term pregnancies with a high risk for neonatal asphyxia. Costs included implementation, medical, and admission costs. Incremental cost-effectiveness ratios (ICER) were calculated. The proportions of patients admitted to the NICU were evaluated. RESULTS UC-pH combined with APGAR score demonstrated a cost-effective outcome (3990.64 USD vs 5545.11 USD) and an ICER shown as saving 103.66 USD compared to the APGAR score alone. The need for NICU admission was less in the umbilical cord blood collection group (18 vs 33 cases). CONCLUSION A combination of UC-pH with APGAR score assessment for neonatal asphyxia in a high-risk term pregnancy can effectively reduce costs and requirement for NICU admission.

Abstract
Arabica coffee is the most popular and best-selling type of coffee. During coffee fermentation, microorganisms are essential for the production of metabolites and volatile compounds that affect coffee flavor quality. This work aimed to study the mutation, selection, and characterization of the Wickerhamomyces anomalus strain YWP1-3 as a starter culture to enhance the flavor quality of Arabica coffee. The results revealed that six mutants could produce relatively high levels of the pectinase enzyme on pectin agar media and exhibited high activity levels, ranging from 332.35 to 415.88 U/ml in mucilage broth. Strains UV22-2, UV22-3, UV41-1 and UV32-1 displayed higher levels of amylase activity than did the wild type. The UV22-2 and UV22-3 mutants exhibited the highest pectin degradation indices of 49.22% and 45.97%, respectively, and displayed significantly enhanced growth rates in nitrogen yeast base media supplemented with various sugars; thus, these mutants were evaluated for their ability to serve as a starter for fermentation of Arabica coffee. The cupping scores of coffees derived from UV22-2 and UV22-3 were 83.5 ± 1.5 and 82.0 ± 2.14, respectively. The volatile compounds in the roasted coffee fermented by UV22-2 were analyzed by GC‒MS, which revealed higher levels of furfuryl alcohol and furfuryl acetate than did the other samples. These findings suggested that UV22-2 could be an influential starter culture for Arabica coffee fermentation.

Abstract
Colorimetric detection can be applied to differentiate between positive and negative conditions. It can be coupled with loop-mediated isothermal amplification to diagnose rumen fluke or paramphistome infection, also called colorimetric PAR-LAMP. This study conducted LAMP using three candidate indicator dyes, namely malachite green (MLG), methyl green (MTG), and neutral red (NTR), and the results were observed by the naked eye. The dye concentration was optimized to obtain the most pronounced positive-negative result discrimination. Subsequently, we conducted target sensitivity tests using the DNA of Fischoederius elongatus at different concentrations. To validate the detection accuracy, the result was confirmed by gel electrophoresis. The sensitivity test presented the lowest detectable DNA concentration or limit of detection (LOD), with 1 pg for MLG, 0.5 ng for MTG, and 50 pg for NTR. Different LODs revealed inhibition of LAMP reaction and reduced efficiency of result presentation for colorimetric-based detection, particularly NTR and MTG. For MLG-LAMP, we observed no cross-reaction of non-target DNA and improved reaction with the DNA of Fischoederius cobboldi and Calicophoron sp., with multi-detection. In addition, naked eye observation and agarose gel electrophoresis (AGE) evaluation of the MLG-LAMP results showed a moderate and strong agreement with LAMP-AGE and microscopic examinations. Based on our results, colorimetric PAR-LAMP is a rapid, comfortable, and point-of-care procedure for the diagnosis of paramphistome infection.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Radiation-induced dry mouth negatively impacts patients' oral health and quality of life. Currently, evidence-based recommendation for non-pharmacologic interventions is still lacking. This study aimed to systematically review clinical trials evaluating the efficacy of non-pharmacologic interventions in cancer patients with radiation-induced dry mouth. METHODS Randomized controlled trials from 2000 were searched from 4 databases, including MEDLINE, Cochrane, Embase via OVID, and SCOPUS, up to December 16th, 2022 (PROSPERO registration CRD42022378405). The risk of bias was assessed using the revised Cochrane risk of bias assessment tool. RESULTS Twenty-one studies were included: 11 on artificial saliva, 4 on electrical nerve stimulation (TENS), 2 on acupuncture, and one study each on low-level laser therapy, stem cells, chewing gum, and probiotics. Overall bias was low, medium, and high in 33%, 48%, and 19% of the studies, respectively. Certain artificial saliva products and TENS were shown to improve dry mouth symptoms and salivary flow rate (SFR). One study showed that stem cell transplantation significantly increased SFR. CONCLUSIONS The evidence suggested that certain artificial saliva products and TENS are promising management. However, the evidence was still limited due to heterogeneity of interventions and outcome measurements. Thus, future studies using standard measurements and long-term follow-up are warranted.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Seborrhea leads to facial greasiness and unpleasant feeling. People with seborrhea also have trouble with selecting moisturizers. l-Carnitine and epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) are reported anti-sebum properties. However, neither efficacy comparison nor the combination effect of the two topical anti-sebum agents was studied. Moisturizing cream with these agents is supposed to provide skin with an optimal water-oil balance. AIMS To compare the efficacy of moisturizer containing 2% l-carnitine or 5% EGCG alone on sebum controlling, and the synergistic effect of these two agents. METHODS Three study creams were formulated by adding three kinds of anti-sebum agents which were 2% l-carnitine, 5% EGCG, and 2% l-carnitine plus 5% EGCG in moisturizing cream base of dimethicone and glycerin. A randomized clinical trial was conducted. Ninety subjects, divided into three groups, applied the cream for 4 weeks. Sebum level, skin capacitance, and transepidermal water loss (TEWL) were evaluated at Weeks 0, 1, 2, and 4. Life qualities and subjective outcomes were assessed before and after treatment. RESULTS The mean sebum reduction from baseline was statistically significant in all treatment groups (p < 0.01). The median time to oil control was longer in l-carnitine group. The combine group had significantly greater anti-sebum efficacy than l-carnitine group (p = 0.009). All three groups had significant improvement of other objective parameters and subjective outcomes. CONCLUSIONS The anti-sebum moisturizing cream exhibited beneficial effect on the sebum reduction with improve skin hydration in people with seborrhea and made users satisfied. The EGCG group and the combine group show the greater anti-sebum effect than the l-carnitine group.

Abstract
Encouraged by the lack of effective treatments and the dramatic growth in the global prevalence of neurodegenerative diseases along with various pharmacological properties of chalcone pharmacophores, this study focused on the development of aminochalcone-based compounds, organic molecules characterized by a chalcone backbone (consisting of two aromatic rings connected by a three-carbon α,β-unsaturated carbonyl system) with an amino group attached to one of the aromatic rings, as potential neuroprotective agents. Thus, the aminochalcone-based compounds in this study were designed by bearing a -OCH3 moiety at different positions on the ring and synthesized by the Claisen-Schmidt condensation. The compounds exhibited strong neuroprotective effects against hydrogen peroxide-induced neuronal death in the human neuroblastoma (SH-SY5Y) cell line (i.e., by improving cell survival, reducing reactive oxygen species production, maintaining mitochondrial function, and preventing cell membrane damage). The aminochalcone-based compounds showed mild toxicity toward a normal embryonic lung cell line (MRC-5) and a human neuroblastoma cell line, and were predicted to have preferable pharmacokinetic profiles with potential for oral administration. Molecular docking simulation indicated that the studied aminochalcones may act as competitive activators of the well-known protective protein, SIRT1, and provided beneficial knowledge regarding the essential key chemical moieties and interacting amino acid residues. Collectively, this work provides a series of four promising candidate agents that could be developed for neuroprotection.

Abstract
Biocopolymers based on vanillin/fufurylamine-biobenzoxazine (V-fa) and epoxide castor oil (ECO), a bioepoxy, were prepared for application as dental fiber-reinforced composite post. The mechanical and thermal properties of the V-fa/ECO biocopolymers were assessed with regard to the influence of ECO content. The addition of the ECO at an amount of 20% by weight into the poly(V-fa) preserved the stiffness, glass transition temperature and thermal stability nearly to the poly(V-fa). Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) was used to examine the curing kinetics of the V-fa/ECO monomer system with different heating rates. To determine the activation energy (Ea), the experimental data were subjected to the isoconversional methods, namely Flynn-Wall-Ozawa (FWO) and Friedman (FR). The V-fa/ECO monomer mixture showed average Ea values of 105 kJ/mol and 94 kJ/mol. The results derived using the curing reaction model and the experimental data were in good agreement, demonstrating the efficacy of the FWO method for determining the curing kinetics parameters. The simulated mechanical response to external applied loads by finite-element analysis of the tooth model restored with glass fiber-reinforced V-fa/ECO biocopolymer post showed a similar stress field to the tooth model restored with a commercial glass fiber post. Therefore, based on the findings in this work, it is evident that the bio-based benzoxazine/epoxy copolymer possesses a great potential to be used for dental fiber post.

Abstract
This work presents a flexible synthesis of 10 novel naphthoquinone-chalcone derivatives (1-10) by nucleophilic substitution of readily accessible aminochalcones and 2,3-dichloro-1,4-naphthoquinone. All compounds displayed broad-spectrum cytotoxic activities against all the tested cancer cell lines (i.e., HuCCA-1, HepG2, A549, MOLT-3, T47D, and MDA-MB-231) with IC50 values in the range of 0.81-62.06 μM, especially the four most potent compounds 1, 3, 8, and 9. The in vitro investigation on the fibroblast growth factor receptor 1 (FGFR1) inhibitory effect indicated that eight derivatives (1-2, 4-5, and 7-10) were active FGFR1 inhibitors (IC50 = 0.33-3.13 nM) with more potency than that of the known FGFR1 inhibitor, AZD4547 (IC50 = 12.17 nM). Promisingly, compounds 5 (IC50 = 0.33 ± 0.01 nM), 9 (IC50 = 0.50 ± 0.04 nM), and 7 (IC50 = 0.85 ± 0.08 nM) were the three most potent FGFR1 inhibitors. Molecular docking, molecular dynamics simulations, and MM/GBSA-based free energy calculation revealed that the key amino acid residues involved in the binding of the compounds 5, 7, and 9 and the target FGFR1 protein were similar with those of the AZD4547 (i.e., Val492, Lys514, Ile545, Val561, Ala640, and Asp641). These findings revealed that the newly synthesized naphthoquinone-chalcone scaffold is a promising structural feature for an efficient inhibition of FGFR1.

Abstract
Acanthosis nigricans is characterized by the presence of velvety hyperpigmentation of the skin over the neck and the flexural areas. Regardless of different modalities of treatment, none provides a definite standard cure. This study aims to assess the efficacy of topical 10% salicylic acid compared to 10% urea cream in treating acanthosis nigricans in adolescents. A randomized comparative, double-blind study is conducted on adolescents with acanthosis nigricans of the posterior neck. Treatment efficacy was assessed via a narrowband reflectance spectrophotometer at individual follow-up visits at weeks 2, 4, and 8, while the overall success rates were evaluated by the investigator-assessed and participant-assessed global evaluation scales (IGE and PGE). Acanthosis nigricans scoring chart (ANSC) and adverse effects are also assessed. A total of 39 participants with acanthosis nigricans enrolled and completed the study. Throughout the 8-week period of treatment, the use of 10% salicylic acid demonstrated strong effectiveness in treatment with 14.6 ± 10.6% improvement, while the 10% urea demonstrated 12.5 ± 10.9% improvement. Findings from the overall global evaluation scales were consistent with the results from the narrowband reflectance spectrophotometer. Treatment with 10% salicylic and 10% urea produced no serious local skin adverse reactions. Both medications improve neck hyperpigmentation associated with acanthosis nigricans in adolescents, in which the 10% salicylic acid and 10% urea cream demonstrate similar efficacy and safety profiles. Abstract
Lactic acid bacteria (LAB) are commonly used as probiotics; however, not all LAB strains have the same beneficial effects. To successfully use LAB as probiotics in canines, LAB species should originate from the canine intestinal tract as they display host specificity. The objective of this study was to investigate the phenotypic and genomic traits of potential probiotic LAB isolated from canine fecal samples. Twenty LAB samples were evaluated for their potential probiotic characteristics including resistance to low pH, bile salts, hydrophobicity, auto-aggregation, co-aggregation, adhesion to epithelia or mucosa, and production of inhibitory compounds. Additionally, we evaluated their safety and other beneficial effects on canine health, such as DPPH free radical scavenging, and β-galactosidase. Four strains demonstrated potential probiotic characteristics and were selected: Enterococcus hirae Pom4, Limosilactobacillus fermentum Pom5, Pediococcus pentosaceus Chi8, and Ligilactobacillus animalis FB2. Safety evaluations showed that all strains lacked hemolytic activity, could not produce biogenic amines, and did not carry any pathogenic genes. In addition, L. fermentum Pom5 and P. pentosaceus Chi8 displayed susceptibility to all antibiotics and concordant with the absence of antibiotic resistance genes. Based on their phenotypic and genomic characteristics, L. fermentum Pom5 and P. pentosaceus Chi8 were identified as potential probiotic candidates for canines.

Abstract
Hypercholesterolemia is a significant risk factor for cardiovascular disease and metabolic disorders. Probiotics are the essential constituents of the gastrointestinal microbiota that provide health-promoting effects. Cholesterol-lowering activity is a specific property of probiotics, improving the cholesterol metabolism without adverse effects. Thus, the purpose of this study was to investigate the hypocholesterolemic effect of single and mixed cholesterol-lowering probiotic strains (including Limosilactobacillus reuteri TF-7, Enterococcus faecium TF-18, and Bifidobacterium animalis TA-1) in high-cholesterol diet (HCD)-induced hypercholesterolemic rats. The results showed that the administration of single probiotics contributed to a reduction in the body weight gain, visceral organ indexes, hyperlipidemia, and hepatic steatosis and also an improvement in the gastrointestinal microbiota. Besides the effect of single cholesterol-lowering probiotics, three probiotics strains could also synergize their hypocholesterolemic effect when administered simultaneously. These findings indicate that three cholesterol-lowering probiotic strains are suitable for development as probiotic supplements to reduce the risk of diseases caused by cholesterol and exert health benefits with synergistic effect when administered simultaneously.

Abstract
Background Detachable microneedles (DMNs) are dissolvable microneedles that detach from the base during administration. The use of DMNs-containing steroids for acne has never been investigated. Methods Thirty-five patients with facial inflammatory acne were evaluated for acne treatment efficacy and safety of DMNs and DMNs containing triamcinolone acetonide (TA) via a 28-day randomized, double-blind, controlled trial. Four inflammatory acne lesions were selected from each participant and randomly treated with a single application of 700 µm DMNs containing 262.02 ± 15.62 µg TA (700DMNTA), 1000 µm DMNs containing 160.00 ± 34.92 µg TA (1000DMNTA), 700 µm DMN without TA (700DMN), and a control. Efficacy was measured by assessing physical grading, diameter, volume, erythema index, and melanin index. Safety was evaluated by assessing reports of adverse effects from patients and physicians. Results All three treatment groups achieved resolution of inflammatory acne significantly faster than the control group, with median times for resolution of 4.6, 5.25, 6.7, and 8.1 days in the 1000DMNTA, 700DMNTA, 700DMN, and control, respectively. When compared to the control group, the diameters and post-acne erythema of inflammatory acne were significantly reduced in the treatment groups. The 1000DMNTA decreased acne size and erythema more than other treatments. DMNTA also tended to decrease acne size and erythema more than DMN with no TA, but there was no statistically significant difference. All participants preferred DMN over conventional intralesional steroid injection due to less pain and self-application. No adverse effect was observed. Conclusion DMNTA is a safe, effective alternative treatment for inflammatory acne and significantly reduces post-acne erythema.

Abstract
To compare radiofrequency and electrocauterization in reducing the degree of postoperative pain in pediatric patients undergoing tonsillectomy. A double-blind, parallel-group, randomized controlled trial. Pediatric patients with indications for tonsillectomy were randomized to receive either tonsillectomy with radiofrequency or electrocautery. Also recorded were intraoperative blood loss, duration of the surgery, length of hospital stays, and complications from the surgery. Forty pediatric patients participated in the study; 20 were randomized to each group. The participants' ages ranged from 3 to 14 years old, and 65% were male. The overall postoperative pain scale score during the early postoperative period was lower in the radiofrequency group compared to the electrocautery group (mean difference - 1.37 (95%CI - 1.72, - 0.12); p < 0.001). Also, the mean pain scale scores at 6 h, 1, and 2 days were significantly lower in the radiofrequency group. Intraoperative blood loss and length of hospital stay in the radiofrequency group were also significantly lower than in the electrocautery group, whereas the duration of the surgery and complication rate were not different between the two groups. Pediatric tonsillectomy using radiofrequency ablation could reduce the severity of early postoperative pain, intraoperative blood loss, and length of hospital stay compared to tonsillectomy with electrocautery. Therefore, tonsillectomy with radiofrequency may be considered a safe and effective operative option. Trial registration Thai Clinical Trials Registry (TCTR-20210303007), 03-March-2021.

Abstract
To evaluate the positive pathological findings, patient satisfaction, pain, and complications of transnasal esophagoscopy (TNE) in laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR) patients at HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Medical Center (MSMC), Thailand. A descriptive cross-sectional study. Forty adult LPR patients who had failed 3-months proton-pump inhibitor therapy were recruited to undergo TNE at Otolaryngology department, MSMC from January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2019. Data including demographics, Reflux Finding Score, Reflux Symptom Index, Eating Assessment Tool (EAT-10) scores, and endoscopic findings were recorded and compared between patients who had positive pathological findings and those who had negative findings. Sixteen patients (40%) had positive findings, which led to the changes in management of their conditions. Most positive findings included multiple esophageal and gastric ulcers (4/16), gastric ulcer (3/16), esophagitis (2/16), and esophageal candidiasis (2/16). There was no statistically significant difference in the baseline data between patients in the TNE positive and the TNE negative groups. The average patient satisfaction on VAS was 8.60 ± 1.43. Most patients were in the mild pain score group (18/40). Complications were not encountered. TNE is an efficient tool for evaluating LPR in Thai patients. The procedure was proven to be safe, well tolerated, and highly satisfied.

Abstract
Porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (PEDV) and porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) are both important global pathogenic viruses which have a significant impact on the swine industry. In this study, a duplex loop-mediated isothermal amplification (duplex LAMP) method was developed in combination with lateral flow dipstick (LFD) for simultaneous detection of PEDV and PCV2 using specific sets of primers and probes designed based on the conserved regions of a spike gene (KF272920) and an ORF gene (EF493839), respectively. The limit of detection (LOD) values of the duplex LAMP-LFD for the detection of PEDV and PCV2 were 0.1 ng/µL and 0.246 ng/µL, respectively. The LOD of duplex LAMP-LFD was 10-times more sensitive than conventional PCR and RT-PCR-agarose gel-electrophoresis (PCR-AGE and RT-PCR-AGE). No cross-reaction to each other and to other pathogenic viruses that can infect pigs were observed according to analytical specificity tests. The duplex LAMP-LFD method for the simultaneous detection of PEDV and PCV2 co-infection could be completed within approximately 1.5 h, and only a simple heating block was required for isothermal amplification. The preliminary validation using 50 swine clinical samples with positive and negative PEDV and/or PCV2 revealed that the sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy of duplex LAMP-LFD were all 100% in comparison to conventional PCR and RT-PCR. Hence, this study suggests that duplex LAMP-LFD is a promising tool for the early detection and initial screening of PEDV and PCV2, which could be beneficial for prevention, planning, and epidemiological surveys of these diseases.

Abstract
The development of many chronic diseases is associated with an excess of free radicals leading to harmful oxidative stress. Certain probiotic strains have been shown to have antioxidant and anti-aging properties and are an important resource for development of microbial antioxidants. The present study aimed to explore the protection offered by Bifidobacterium animalis strain MSMC83 in a model of oxidative stress induced by D-galactose (D-gal). Male Sprague Dawley rats were randomly allocated to four groups: a control group injected with saline, a group injected subcutaneously with D-galactose, a probiotic group injected with D-galactose and administered B. animalis MSMC83 (109 CFU/mL) via daily oral gavage, and an ascorbic acid group. The probiotics significantly increased the superoxide dismutase, catalase, and glutathione peroxidase and significantly decreased the malondialdehyde in the plasma and livers of D-galactose-treated rats. Moreover, tumor necrosis factor-alpha level in the liver was significantly decreased. Furthermore, the treatment with B. animalis MSMC83 restored the microbiota diversity after D-galactose injection. Therefore, our results supported a beneficial role of B. animalis MSMC83 in alleviating oxidative stress through the increased expression of antioxidant enzymes and reduction of pro-inflammatory cytokines in rats. Our study suggests that B. animalis MSMC83 may be part of a healthy diet to prevent oxidative stress-associated diseases.

Abstract
Catalytic pyrolysis of polymer waste is an attractive alternative process for the conversion of large hydrocarbon compounds to useful products for the most reliable fueling and valuable chemicals, growing toward a circular economy and enhancing the reduction of waste materials. In this study, catalytic pyrolysis of waste polyethylene wax (WPEW) using a dual acid-acid catalyst and acid-base catalyst, which had various pore size distributions and included a strong active site, maximized the desirable yield and product distribution. The effect of the process conditions and synergy of activated carbon (AC) blended into both a spent fluid catalytic cracking catalyst (FCC) and magnesium oxide (MgO) catalyst was examined in a 3000 cm3 custom-built reactor at varying operating temperatures (400-470 °C), inert nitrogen gas flow rates (50 mL min-1), catalyst loading (1-5 wt %), and FCC-AC and MgO-AC ratios in the catalytic conversion of WPEW to obtain the highest amount of diesel-like oil. The results indicated that thermal cracking of WPEW at 420 °C by a fixed inert N2 flow rate of 50 mL min-1 obtained the highest liquid yield of 81.64 wt % and a diesel-like fraction of 35.51 wt %, while the catalytic conversion of WPEW under optimum conditions (temperature: 420 °C; fixed inert N2 flow rate: 50 mL min-1; catalyst load: 5 wt %; MgO-AC ratio: 0.5:0.5) achieved the highest liquid diesel-like yield of 41.92 wt %. Physicochemical analyses showed that the highest heating value of WPEW pyrolytic oil was 44.20 MJ kg-1, and the viscosity was 1.7 mm2 s-1 at 40 °C. The combination of MgO-AC as a dual catalyst illustrates a positive synergistic effect on the catalytic activity performance markedly, outstanding catalytic characteristics alongside high selectivity in pyrolysis of WPEW to paraffinic hydrocarbons in the diesel-like fraction.

Abstract
Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) has been recognized as one of the attractive targets for anticancer drug development. Herein, a set of anilino-1,4-naphthoquinone derivatives (3-18) was synthesized and investigated for their anticancer and EGFR inhibitory potentials. Among all tested compounds, three derivatives (3, 8, and 10) were selected for studying EGFR inhibitory activity (in vitro and in silico) due to their most potent cytotoxic activities against six tested cancer cell lines (i.e., HuCCA-1, HepG2, A549, MOLT-3, MDA-MB-231, and T47D; IC50 values = 1.75-27.91 μM), high selectivity index (>20), and good predicted drug-like properties. The experimental results showed that these three promising compounds are potent EGFR inhibitors with nanomolar IC50 values (3.96-18.64 nM). Interestingly, the most potent compound 3 bearing 4-methyl substituent on the phenyl ring displayed 4-fold higher potency than the known EGFR inhibitor, erlotinib. Molecular docking, molecular dynamics simulation, and MM/GBSA-based free energy calculation revealed that van der Waals force played a major role in the accommodations of compound 3 within the ATP-binding pocket of EGFR. Additionally, the 4-CH3 moiety of the compound was noted to be a key chemical feature contributing to the highly potent EGFR inhibitory activity via its formations of alkyl interactions with A743, K745, M766, and L788 residues as well as additional interactions with M766 and T790.

Abstract
Microencapsulation technology can be used to improve the probiotic viability under stress condition in the human gastrointestinal tract and during storage. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the protective effect of encapsulation materials on the survival of GABA-producing probiotics using alginate containing cassava starch nanocrystals under simulated gastrointestinal conditions and shelf storage. Lactobacillus brevis ST-69, GABA-producing probiotic strain, was isolated from kimchi and encapsulated using emulsion technique. The GABA activity, encapsulation efficiency, morphology, probiotic viability were evaluated. The encapsulation efficiency using emulsion technique was 89.72%. Probiotic encapsulated in alginate-nanocrystalline starch gel capsules showed high survival rate at 94.97% of probiotic cells under simulated gastrointestinal conditions and during long-life storage at 4 °C compared to free cells. Results showed that for improving the viability of probiotics against gastrointestinal and storage conditions, complex materials with nanocrystalline starch might be a better encapsulating matrix for the preparation of gel capsules.

Abstract
Cloxyquin is a potential therapeutic compound possessing various bioactivities, especially antibacterial, antifungal, cardioprotective, and pain relief activities. Herein, the interaction mechanism between cloxyquin and bovine serum albumin (BSA) has been elucidated in order to fulfill its pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic gaps essential for further development as a therapeutic drug. Multi-spectroscopic and biophysical model analysis suggested that cloxyquin interacts with BSA via a static process by ground-state complex formation. Its binding behavior emerged as a biphasic fashion with a moderate binding constant at the level of 104 M-1. Thermodynamic analysis and molecular docking simulation concurrently revealed that hydrophobic interaction is a major driving force for BSA-cloxyquin complexation. Binding of cloxyquin tends to slightly enlarge the monomeric size of BSA without a significant increase of aggregate fraction. Cloxyquin preferentially binds into the fatty acid binding site 5 (FA5) of the BSA via hydrophobic interaction amongst its quinoline scaffold and Phe550, Leu531, and Leu574 residues of BSA. The quinoline ring and hydroxyl moiety of cloxyquin also form the π-π interaction and the hydrogen bond with Phe506. Our data indicate a potential function of serum albumin as a carrier of cloxyquin in blood circulation.

Abstract
Echinostoma revolutum is known as a significant intestinal trematode in various species of animals and humans. It presents complexities in terms of both the morphological and molecular biological data. This is the first study of the application of Cytochrome B gene (CYTB) as a target for studying the phylogeny and designing species-specific primer of E. revolutum. Adult trematodes were harvested from experimentally infected hamsters at 18 days of post-infection. Each worm was identified based on their morphological appearance. The novel CYTB primers were designed from other Echinostoma species to initially amplify CYTB region in E. revolutum. All sequence data of E. revolutum in five provinces of Central Thailand were used as the target for designing the species-specific primer for E. revolutum. The results revealed that CYTB gene can separate E. revolutum into two sister groups by geographical distribution, comprising the eastern and western area groups. Moreover, it also separates E. revolutum from other Echinostoma species, including two sibling species; E. caproni and E. paraensei. In addition, we developed the high performance species-specific primer of E. revolutum. It can detect DNA from a single egg, as well as cercaria, metacercaria and adult stages of this trematode with no cross-reactions to other trematodes and their hosts. Therefore, this research is a positive initial step for the future study of E. revolutum CYTB. The future studies based on this gene should be continued with all species in revolutum complex to overcome the problems of systemic classification that arise in this complex group.
