Abstract
Microbial exopolysaccharides (EPSs) have emerged as a fascinating area of research in the field of pharmacology due to their diverse and potent biological activities. This review paper aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the pharmacological properties exhibited by EPSs, shedding light on their potential applications in various therapeutic areas. The review begins by introducing EPSs, exploring their various sources, significance in microbial growth and survival, and their applications across different industries. Subsequently, a thorough examination of the pharmaceutical properties of microbial EPSs unveils their antioxidant, immunomodulatory, antimicrobial, antidepressant, antidiabetic, antiviral, antihyperlipidemic, hepatoprotective, anti-inflammatory, and anticancer activities. Mechanistic insights into how different EPSs exert these therapeutic effects have also been discussed in this review. The review also provides comprehensive information about the monosaccharide composition, backbone, branches, glycosidic bonds, and molecular weight of pharmacologically active EPSs from various microbial sources. Furthermore, the factors that can affect the pharmacological activities of EPSs and approaches to improve the EPSs' pharmacological activity have also been discussed. In conclusion, this review illuminates the immense pharmaceutical promise of microbial EPS as versatile bioactive compounds with wide-ranging therapeutic applications. By elucidating their structural features, biological activities, and potential applications, this review aims to catalyze further research and development efforts in leveraging the pharmaceutical potential of microbial EPS for the advancement of human health and well-being, while also contributing to sustainable and environmentally friendly practices in the pharmaceutical industry.

Abstract
The specific structure of Polygonatum kingianum Coll. et Hemsl polysaccharide (PKP) has been rarely reported. In this study, an inulin-type fructan PKP-1, was extracted and purified from Polygonatum kingianum Coll. et Hemsl, and its structural characteristics and antioxidants activity were evaluated. The molecular weights of PKP-1 was determined to be 4.802 kDa. Monosaccharide composition analysis evidenced that PKP-1 was composed of galactose, glucose and fructose in a molar ratio of 0.8 %:7.2 %:92.0 %. Glycosidic linkage and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) analysis revealed that PKP-1 exhibited a primary sugar residue linkage of →1-β-d-Fruf-2→2,6-β-d-Fruf-1→, where β-d-Fruf-2→ acts as the side chain and links to the C-6 position of →2,6-β-d-Fruf-1→. In vitro antioxidant activity assays demonstrated that PKP-1 enhanced the mitigation of hepatic oxidative stress in HepG2 cells induced by free fatty acids. This effect was marked by increased enzymatic activities of superoxidase dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT), along with elevated glutathione (GSH) levels. These findings indicate that PKP-1 could be used as a potential natural antioxidant.

Abstract
Abstract Nucleobases serve as ideal targets where drugs bind and exert their anticancer activities. Cisplatin (cisPt) preferentially coordinates to 2′-deoxyguanosine (dGuo) residues within DNA. The dGuo adducts that are formed alter the DNA structure, contributing to inhibition of function and ultimately cancer cell death. Despite its success as an anticancer drug, cisPt has a number of drawbacks that reduce its efficacy, including repair of adducts and drug resistance. Some approaches to overcome this problem involve development of compounds that coordinate to other purine nucleobases, including those found in RNA. In this work, amino acid-linked platinum(II) (AAPt) compounds of alanine and ornithine (AlaPt and OrnPt, respectively) were studied. Their reactivity preferences for DNA and RNA purine nucleosides (i.e., 2′-deoxyadenosine (dAdo), adenosine (Ado), dGuo, and guanosine (Guo)) were determined. The chosen compounds form predominantly monofunctional adducts by reacting at the N1, N3, or N7 positions of purine nucleobases. In addition, features of AAPt compounds that impact the glycosidic bond stability of Ado residues were explored. The glycosidic bond cleavage is activated differentially for AlaPt-Ado and OrnPt-Ado isomers. Formation of unique adducts at non-canonical residues and subsequent destabilization of the glycosidic bonds are important features that could circumvent platinum-based drug resistance. Abstract
Anthocyanins can condense with compounds having enolizable groups to form pyranoanthocyanins. These pigments are less susceptible to degradation and color changes associated with nucleophilic addition common to anthocyanins. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of glycosylation patterns of anthocyanins on carboxypyranoanthocyanin formation. Nine cyanidin derivatives were isolated by semi-preparative HPLC. Pyruvic acid was added to induce pyranoanthocyanin formation. Composition (HPLC-MS/MS), spectra (absorbance 380-700 nm), and color (CIEL*c*h*) of solutions were monitored during 31 days storage at 25 °C. Cyanidin-3-glycosides with 1 → 6 disaccharides produced the highest pyranoanthocyanin yield (∼31%), followed by Cyanidin-3-monoglycosides (∼20%); 1 → 2 disaccharides produced the least proportions of pyranoanthocyanins (5-7%). Cyanidin-3-arabinoside converted to pyranoanthocyanins but degraded quickly (3% yield) under these conditions. No pyranoanthocyanins were formed from Cyanidin-3-sophoroside-5-glucoside. Glycosyl bonds were more critical than the size of the substitution alone, further supported by Cyanidin-3-(glucosyl)-(1 → 6)-(xylosyl-(1 → 2)-galactoside) yield (11%). Pyranoanthocyanins were hypsochromically shifted and had higher hue angles than their respective anthocyanins.
