Abstract
Patients with peripheral neuropathy with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) are more likely to have functional impairments. Recently, the gene for serum sterile alpha and toll/interleukin receptor motif-containing protein 1 (SARM1), which may contribute to the pathogenesis of Wallerian degeneration, was discovered in mice models of peripheral neuropathy. We set out to assess serum SARM1's activity as a potential biomarker for the early identification of diabetic peripheral neuropathy in T2DM patients while also examining the impact of the COVID-19 vaccine on SARM1 levels. We assessed the cross-sectional relationships between the SARM1 biomarker, clinical neuropathy scales, and nerve conduction parameters in 80 participants aged between 30 years and 60 years. The analysis was carried out after the patients were split into two groups since we discovered a significant increase in SARM1 levels following the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccination, where group A received one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine inoculation, and group B received two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. SARM1 was correlated significantly (p < 0.05) with MNSIe and NSS in group A and showed a consistent positive correlation with the other neuropathy clinical scales in group A and group B without reaching statistical significance. Additionally, SARM1 was negatively correlated significantly (p < 0.05) with the median sensory amplitude in group A and showed a consistent negative correlation with the six other sensory and motor nerves' potential amplitude in group A and group B without reaching statistical significance. In conclusion, SARM1 showed a consistent correlation with clinical neuropathy scales and nerve conduction parameters after accounting for the influence of COVID-19 vaccination doses.

Abstract
Background Sitting time and physical activity are related to renal function among type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM); however, the mechanism of how it contributes to renal function is not well understood. The current study attempts to explore the relationship between sitting time and renal function among T2DM patients, with a particular focus on the mediating role of physical activity. Methods This research uses the data of 1761 Chinese T2DM patients from Ningxia Province. Sitting time and physical activity were obtained during a face-to-face survey, and renal function was assessed by the estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR). The bootstrap method is used to test the mediating effect. Results The research found that sitting time was negatively associated with eGFR and physical activity after controlling for covariates. Physical activity was positively associated with eGFR. Physical activity has mediated the relationship between sitting time and eGFR among T2DM patients (explaining 16.1% of the total variance). Conclusion The present findings suggest that sitting time negatively affects eGFR among T2DM patients and provides new evidence that physical activity could attenuate the association between sitting time and eGFR. Hence, intervention strategies focusing on sitting time and physical activity should be paid more attention in the future.

Abstract
Background Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) has certain advantages in treating diabetes via TCM syndromes differentiation, and health-related behaviors can regulate TCM syndromes. This study aimed to identify the clusters of TCM syndromes in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients and to explore the association between health-related behaviors and those TCM syndromes clusters. Methods This was a cross-sectional study of 1761 T2DM patients from the Ningxia Province. The TCM syndromes (11 TCM syndromes in total) scale was used to collect the syndrome information. Health-related behaviors, including smoking, alcohol use, tea drinking, the intensity of physical activity, sleep quality, and sleep duration, were collected via a face-to-face interview questionnaire. Latent profile analysis was employed to identify clusters of 11 TCM syndromes. Multinomial logistic regression was employed to examine the relationships between health-related behaviors and clusters of TCM syndromes. Results TCM syndromes in T2DM patients were classified into three profiles using latent profile analysis: light, moderate, and heavy. Participants with poor health-related behaviors were more likely to have heavy 1.49 (95% CI: 1.12, 1.99) or moderate 1.75 (95% CI: 1.10, 2.79) profiles than those with good health-related habits. Smokers, tea drinkers, and those with poor sleep quality were more likely to have a moderate profile and heavy profile than a light profile. Compared with heavy physical activity, moderate activity 0.24 (95% CI: 0.07, 0.88) was negatively associated with a heavy profile. Conclusion Results showed that most participants had light or moderate levels of TCM syndromes, and those with poor health-related behaviors were more likely to have heavy or moderate profiles. In the context of precision medicine, these results have important implications for understanding the prevention and treatment of diabetes via changing lifestyles and behaviors to regulate TCM syndromes.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The fear of hypoglycemia in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients with hypoglycemia has seriously affected their quality of life. They are always afraid of hypoglycemia and often take excessive action to avoid it. Yet, researchers have investigated the relationship between hypoglycemia worries and excessive avoiding hypoglycemia behavior using total scores on self-report measures. However, network analysis studies of hypoglycemia worries and excessive avoiding hypoglycemia behavior in T2DM patients with hypoglycemia are lacking. PURPOSE The present study investigated the network structure of hypoglycemia worries and avoiding hypoglycemia behavior in T2DM patients with hypoglycemia and aimed to identify bridge items to help them correctly treat hypoglycemia and properly deal with hypoglycemia fear. METHODS A total of 283 T2DM patients with hypoglycemia were enrolled in our study. Hypoglycemia worries and avoiding hypoglycemia behavior were evaluated with the Hypoglycemia Fear Scale. Network analyses were used for the statistical analysis. RESULTS B9 "Had to stay at home for fear of hypoglycemia" and W12 "I am worried that hypoglycemia will affect my judgment" have the highest expected influences in the present network. In the community of hypoglycemia worries, W17 "I worry about hypoglycemia during sleep" has the highest bridge expected influence. And in the community of avoiding hypoglycemia behavior, B9 "Had to stay at home for fear of hypoglycemia" has the highest bridge expected influence. CONCLUSION Complex patterns of associations existed in the relationship between hypoglycemia worries and avoiding hypoglycemia behavior in T2DM patients with hypoglycemia. From the perspective of network analysis, B9 "Had to stay at home for fear of hypoglycemia" and W12 "I am worried that hypoglycemia will affect my judgment" have the highest expected influence, indicating their highest importance in the network. W17 "I worry about hypoglycemia during sleep" aspect of hypoglycemia worries and B9 "Had to stay at home for fear of hypoglycemia" aspect of avoiding hypoglycemia behavior have the highest bridge expected influence, indicating they have the strongest connections with each community. These results have important implications for clinical practice, which provided potential targets for interventions to reduce hypoglycemia fear and improve the quality of life in T2DM patients with hypoglycemia.

Abstract
Background Patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) are at increased risk for COVID-19 related morbidity and mortality. Antibody response to COVID-19 vaccine in T2DM patients is not very clear. The present work aims to evaluate the antibody response to the inactivated SARS-CoV-2 vaccine in this population. Methods Two groups of subjects with no history of SARS-CoV-2 infection were included: 63 T2DM patients and 56 non-T2DM controls. Each participant received two doses of inactivated COVID-19 vaccine. IgG antibodies against the nucleocapsid (N) and spike (S) proteins of SARS-CoV-2 (anti-N/S IgG) and receptor binding domain (RBD) proteins (anti-RBD IgG) were quantitatively evaluated by the electrochemiluminescence immunoassays, respectively. Results It was observed that the positive rates and titers of anti-N/S IgG and anti-RBD IgG in T2DM patients were significantly lower than those in controls, respectively (anti-N/S: 85.7 vs. 98.2%, P = 0.034; 25.48 vs. 33.58 AU/ml P = 0.011; anti-RBD: 85.7 vs. 96.4%, P = 0.044; 15.45 vs. 22.25 AU/ml, P = 0.019). Compared to non-T2DM subjects, T2DM patients with uncontrolled glycemia showed lower positive antibody rates and titers (anti-N/S IgG: 75% and 13.30 AU/ml; anti-RBD IgG: 75% and 11.91 AU/ml, respectively, all P < 0.05), while T2DM patients with controlled glycemia had similar positive antibody rates and titers (anti-N/S IgG: 94.3% and 33.65 AU/ml; and anti-RBD IgG: 94.3% and 19.82 AU/ml, respectively, all P > 0.05). Conclusion In the analysis performed, the data indicate that T2DM patients with uncontrolled glycemia showed a lower level of IgG antibodies compared to non-diabetic controls and individuals with controlled glycemia when immunized with the inactivated COVID-19 vaccine.

Abstract
PURPOSE Few studies have explored the association between neighborhood social cohesion (NSC), a type of social capital, and the quality of life of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). In addition, the potential mechanism for this association remains unclear. The current study examined the mediation effect of depressive symptoms on the relationship between NSC and quality of life among diabetes patients in China. PATIENTS AND METHODS A cross-sectional study of 1747 T2DM patients was conducted. The specific quality of life (DSQL), Center for Epidemiological Survey Depression (CES-D), and social capital scales were administered using a face-to-face survey. Partial correlation analysis and a linear regression model were employed to explore the relationship between NSC, depressive symptoms, and quality of life. Bootstrap analysis using PROCESS was used to test the mediation model. RESULTS After controlling for covariates, NSC was negatively correlated with depressive symptoms (r=-0.24, P<0.01) and DSQL score (r=-0.20, P<0.01) while depressive symptoms were positively correlated with DSQL score (r=0.46, P<0.01). Linear regression analysis also found that NSC was negatively associated with the DSQL score, while depressive symptoms were positively associated with the DSQL score. Depressive symptoms mediated the relationship between NSC and quality of life in T2DM patients (explaining 50.7% of the total variance). CONCLUSION NSC was positively associated with improved quality of life among Chinese T2DM patients in this study, and depressive symptoms were likely to partially explain this relationship. These findings may be used to help maintain a good quality of life among at-risk individuals. Additional prospective studies are needed to confirm these findings.

Abstract
Objective: There are few studies about the relationship between social capital (SC) and depression among type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients, and the mechanism explaining how SC leads to decreased depression is unclear. The current study aims to explore the relationship between SC and depressive symptoms among the T2DM patients in northwest China, with a particular focus on the mediating role of sleep quality. Methods: A cross-sectional study of 1,761 T2DM patients from Ningxia Province was conducted. The Center for Epidemiological Survey Depression Scale (CES-D) and self-report sleep quality questionnaire coupled with the SC scales were administered during the face-to-face survey. The Bootstrap methods PROCESS program is employed to test the mediation model. Results: The prevalence of depressive symptoms among T2DM patients was 24.8%. After controlling for covariates, the SC (r = -0.23, p < 0.001) was negatively correlated with CES-D score; the sleep quality was also negatively correlated with CES-D score (r = -0.31, p < 0.001); and the SC was positively correlated with sleep quality (r = 0.10, p < 0.001). Logistic regression analysis showed that SC was inversely related to the risk of depressive symptoms. Meanwhile, sleep quality was negatively associated with depressive symptoms. Sleep quality has mediated the relationship between SC and depressive symptoms among T2DM patients (explaining 12.6% of the total variance). Conclusions: We elucidated how SC interacted with depressive symptoms through the mediation pathway of sleep quality using a representative sample of the Chinese diabetes patients. The findings indicate that the improvement of SC and sleep quality may help in maintaining mental health among T2DM patients. Hence, clinicians can suggest that patients communicate more with others to improve the SC and, in turn, maintain their health.

Abstract
In this prospective study we compared Hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) levels in T2DM (Type 2 diabetes) patients who received psycho-educational intervention vs. usual care. Intervention was provided by pharmaceutics students, and accompanied by an academic course. We further examined the effect of the pedagogical format by which students were taught on HbA1c levels of the patients. The format of the academic course varied: the simultaneous format included theoretical, clinical, and practical themes taught within each lesson; whereas in the non-simultaneous format, theoretical themes were taught during the first several lessons, followed by practical skills taught in the following ones. T2DM patients (n = 171) were recruited through 10 primary care clinics. The inclusion criterion was patients with uncontrolled type 2 diabetes (HbA1c > 7%). Patients were randomly allocated to a training or control group. Pharmaceutics students (n = 85) in their fourth year participated in an academic course and were randomly allocated to a simultaneous vs. non-simultaneous pedagogical format. The interaction effect between intervention type and pedagogical format was significant. Only patients who participated in the training group consisting of students who participated in the simultaneous course format showed improvement on their HbA1c levels. Implications on patients' outcome and suggestions for future studies are discussed.

Abstract
This open‐label, parallel‐group, multicenter study aimed to assess the effects of renal impairment on the pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and safety of luseogliflozin. A single 5‐mg dose of luseogliflozin was administered to Japanese patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus in the following groups: G1, normal renal function; G2, mild renal impairment; G3a, mild to moderate impairment; G3b, moderate to severe impairment; G4, severe impairment, based on estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR; ≥90, 60–89, 45–59, 30–44, 15–29 mL/min/1.73 m2, respectively). While luseogliflozin pharmacokinetics were similar for patients across all renal function groups, the increase in plasma concentration was slightly slower and maximum concentration was slightly reduced in the lower eGFR groups compared with the other groups. However, luseogliflozin pharmacodynamics were affected by the severity of renal impairment. Urinary glucose excretion (UGE) increased in all groups relative to baseline levels, but the degree of UGE increase was smaller in the lower eGFR groups. Moreover, plasma glucose AUC changes from baseline tended to be smaller in the lower eGFR groups. No clear trends were observed between eGFR and incidence, type, or severity of adverse events. Thus, luseogliflozin administration should be carefully considered, as patients with renal impairment may show an insufficient response to treatment.

Abstract
BACKGROUND We investigated the associations between cardiometabolic factors and carotid intima media thickness (IMT) in Korea type 2 diabetes (T2DM) patients, and assessed the possible difference with respect to gender and menopausal status. METHODS We conducted a cross-sectional study with 1288 T2DM patients from the Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism at Gangnam Severance Hospital. Carotid IMT and various biochemical parameters were measured, and the postmenopausal status was assessed. RESULTS In partial correlation analysis, total cholesterol (TC) and LDL cholesterol (LDL-C) were positively correlated with right maximum IMT in men. For postmenopausal women, TC and LDL-C were positively correlated with IMT (all p<0.05) while no such correlation was observed in premenopausal women. In regression analysis, age was the most predominant factor for IMT in all 3 groups. For men, insulin and TC were predictive factors for maximum IMT (all p<0.05), and for postmenopausal women, TC and LDL-C were significant factors for mean and maximum IMT (all p<0.01). However, cholesterol concentrations were not related to all types of IMT in premenopausal women. CONCLUSION The association between LDL-C and carotid IMT seems to differ according to gender and menopausal status in T2DM patients.
