Abstract
PURPOSE To assess vertical and horizontal fit, screw removal torque, and stress analysis (considered biomechanical aspects) of full-arch implant frameworks manufactured in Ti-6Al-4V through milling, and additive manufacturing Direct Metal Laser Sintering (DMLS) and Electron Beam Melting (EBM), and the effect of the thermo-mechanical treatment Hot Isostatic Pressing (HIP) as a post-treatment after manufacturing. MATERIAL AND METHODS Maxillary full-arch implant frameworks were made by milling, DMLS, and EBM. The biomechanical assessments were screw removal torque, strain-gauge analyses, and vertical and horizontal marginal fits. The vertical fit was assessed by the single-screw test and with all screws tightened. All frameworks were submitted to a standardized HIP cycle (920°C, 1000 bar pressure, 2 h), and the tests were repeated (α = 0.05). RESULTS At the initial time, milled frameworks presented higher screw removal torque values, and DMLS and EBM frameworks presented lower levels of strain. Using the single-screw test, milled and DMLS frameworks presented higher vertical fit values, and with all screws tightened and horizontally, higher fit values were found for milled frameworks, followed by DMLS and EBM. After HIP, milling and EBM frameworks presented higher screw removal torque values; the lowest strain values were found for EBM. Using the single-screw test, milled and DMLS frameworks presented higher vertical fit values, and with all screws tightened and horizontally no differences were found. CONCLUSIONS DMLS and EBM full-arch frameworks presented adequate values of screw removal torque, strain, and marginal fit, although the worst values of marginal fit were found for EBM frameworks. The HIP cycle enhanced the screw removal torque of milled and EBM frameworks and reduced the strain values of milled frameworks. The HIP represents a reliable post-treatment for Ti-6Al-4V dental prostheses produced by milling and EBM technologies.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The aim was to compare the 'reverse sandwich restoration' to resin composite restorations re- garding marginal adaptation, fracture resistance, favourable/unfavourable fractures in the management of external cervical resorption. METHODS Forty-eight extracted maxillary central incisors were selected and endodontically treated. Cervical regions of the labial root surfaces received simulated resorptive defects and were restored as three randomly allocated groups: Reverse Sandwich Restoration (resin composite + resin-modified glass ionomer) (RSR); resin composite restoration (COMP), and no restoration (NR). Each group was further divided into two subgroups (n=8 each): Thermomechanical Aging (TA) (equivalent to one year) and No Aging (NA). Marginal adaptation was scored by scanning electron microscopy. Fracture resistance was tested using a universal testing machine. Favourable versus unfavourable fractures were classified based on fracture extent. RESULTS TA decreased the marginal adaptation for both RSR and COMP. Mean fracture resistance per groups were: RSR-NA 1522.4+-94.9N, RSR-TA 939.6+-72.9N, COMP-NA 1197.6+-95.7N, COMP-TA 870.4+-86.3N, NR-NA 1057.1+-88.1N, and NR-TA 836.6+-81.9N, respectively. Fracture resistance was the highest for RSR- NA compared to all other groups (p<0.05). TA decreased the fracture resistance in all groups (p<0.05), there was no significant difference between RSR and COMP regarding fracture resistance and favourable/ unfavourable fractures (p>0.05). CONCLUSION RSR provided comparable results to resin composite fillings to restore artificial cervical defects pertaining to marginal adaptation, fracture resistance, and favourable versus unfavourable fractures. RSR is preferable due to its inherent biocompatibility to the periodontium. (EEJ-2023-04-050).

Abstract
This systematic review aimed to identify and analyze in vitro studies on the marginal adaptation values of computer-aided-design/computer-aided-manufacturing (CAD/CAM) and heat-pressed lithium disilicate glass ceramics and zirconia-reinforced lithium silicates and endocrown restorations. A full literature search was conducted in Web of Science, PubMed/Medline, EMBASE, Scopus, Cochrane Library, Google Scholar, and ProQuest electronic databases. The following keywords: endocrown [(marginal adaption) or (marginal fit) or internal fitting)], endocrown [(molar(s)) or (premolar(s) or (posterior teeth) or (maxillary arch) or (mandibular arch)] and ceramic materials as [(lithium disilicate glass ceramic CAD/CAM) or (zirconia) or (heat-press)] were used. Articles were manually searched utilizing their reference lists. Study selection was restricted or limited to the time of publication but not to the type of tested teeth or ceramic material, endocrown design, system of endocrown construction, abutment scanning, and system of the marginal adaption measurement. A total of 17 in vitro studies published between 2016 and 2023 were included in this systemic review. Less than half of the studies were published during 2023. Most studies used lithium disilicate glass ceramic and zirconia-reinforced lithium silicate all-ceramic materials by CAD/CAM or heat-press systems. Marginal adaptation, or marginal gap, was almost equal in the 2 materials, while it was slightly or marginally higher in the heat-press than in the CAD/CAM system. All-ceramic lithium disilicate glass ceramic and/or zirconia endocrowns fabricated for posterior teeth in both arches using CAD/CAM or heat-press had recorded marginal adaptation values within an acceptable range.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The purpose of this experimental in vitro study was to assess the effect of having one or two intact axial walls on the improvement of the fracture resistance, and marginal and internal adaptation of computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturer fabricated ceramic endocrowns. MATERIALS AND METHODS Thirty-six endodontically treated mandibular molars were divided into three groups (n = 12). Group A, represented teeth that all of their axial walls were reduced till they all had 3 mm height. In group B, the buccal wall had 5 mm height and the others were reduced to 3 mm. Specimens of the group C had 5-mm-height buccal and one 5 mm-height proximal wall, with all other walls of 3 mm height. All teeth were scanned using intraoral scanner, and endocrowns were milled from zirconia lithium silicate ceramics blocks. The marginal and internal discrepancy of restorations were evaluated with the replica technique. Fracture resistance was also measured after cementation and modes of failure were observed. One-way analysis of variance and Tukey HSD multiple comparisons were used to analyze the data (α = .5). RESULTS Significant differences were observed within the groups in terms of the axial discrepancy (p = .022); group A had significantly higher amounts of axial discrepancy compared to group B (p = .001) and group C (p = .003). Preservation of the intact axial walls did not result in a statistically significant decrease in marginal (p = .21) and pulpal (p = .31) discrepancy values. Also, concerning the fracture resistance no significant difference was observed among the groups (p = .51). CONCLUSION Preservation of at least one of the axial walls could reduce the amount of the axial discrepancy and, therefore, improves the adaptation of the restoration. However, based on this study, it did not improve fracture resistance.

Abstract
Precise fit of a crown and accurate reproduction of the digital design are paramount for successful treatment outcomes and preservation of clinician and technician time. The study aimed to compare the internal fit, marginal adaptation, precision, and trueness of 3D-printed zirconia crowns compared to their milled counterpart. A total of 20 monolithic 3 mol% yttria stabilized-zirconia crowns (n = 10) were made using computer-assisted design (CAD) followed by additive (3D-printed) and subtractive (milled) manufacturing. Digital scanning of the master die with and without a fit checker followed by image superimposition, and analysis was performed to evaluate internal and marginal adaptation in four areas (occlusal, axial, marginal, and overall). ISO 12836:2015 standard was followed for precision and trueness evaluation. Statistical analysis was achieved using a t-test at α = 0.05. Internal fit and marginal adaptation revealed no significant difference between the two test groups (p > 0.05). The significant difference in trueness (p < 0.05) was found between the two groups in three areas (occlusal, axial, and internal). The best and worst trueness values were seen with 3D-printed crowns at occlusal (8.77 ± 0.89 µm) and Intaglio (23.90 ± 1.60 µm), respectively. The overall precision was statistically better (p < 0.05) in the 3D-printed crowns (9.59 ± 0.75 µm) than the milled (17.31 ± 3.39 µm). 3D-printed and milled zirconia crowns were comparable to each other in terms of internal fit and marginal adaptation. The trueness of the occlusal and axial surfaces of 3D-printed crowns was better, whereas the trueness of fitting surface of milled crowns was better. 3D-printed crowns provided a higher level of precision than milled crowns. Although the internal and marginal fit of both production techniques were comparable, 3D printing of zirconia produced more precise crowns.

Abstract
This study aimed to systematically review the literature to evaluate the marginal adaptation of veneers using different fabrication methods, namely, conventional feldspathic porcelain laminate veneers (PLVs), computer-aided design-computer-aided machining (CAD-CAM) veneers, and pressed veneers. A comprehensive literature search was performed using electronic databases (PubMed and Google Scholar) as well as hand searches to identify all relevant studies related to veneers and marginal adaptation. The identified studies were screened for assessing the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The included articles were then subjected to data extraction and analysis. The search resulted in 130 articles, of which six were included in this systematic review. All included articles were assessed for adaptation of margins. Based on the findings of this systematic review, no significant differences were found in the marginal adaptation of CAD-CAM and conventional feldspathic PLVs. The marginal fidelity of ceramic veneers issuing from the various fabrication techniques was clinically acceptable.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) technology has revolutionised dentistry at present. An operator's skills can affect the overall clinical duration and marginal accuracy of the prosthesis fabricated through this workflow. The aim of this study was to assess the effect of CAD/CAM hands-on training compared with that of a self-instructional video on the performance of dental students in digital impression and fabrication of a CAD/CAM crown. METHODS In this cross-sectional study, 30 undergraduate dental students were shown a CEREC demonstration video. Each operator then captured a digital impression using the intra-oral scanner, and a crown was subsequently milled. All participants underwent a training course before repeating the process. Marginal discrepancy for each crown on its abutment tooth was measured before and after training using a stereomicroscope and was evaluated using Wilcoxon signed rank test. The duration taken for the process was recorded before and after training and evaluated using paired t-test. RESULTS The overall mean ±standard deviation marginal adaptation for the CEREC crowns was 78.15 ± 42.83 μm before training and 52.41 ± 17.12 μm after training. The Wilcoxon signed rank test found significant difference (p < .05) in terms of marginal adaptation of crowns fabricated before and after training. Paired t-tests showed that the time efficiency after training significantly improved compared with that before training. CONCLUSIONS Training with guided feedback is crucial to improve the time efficiency of making a digital impression and marginal adaptation of fixed prosthesis using the CAD/CAM technology.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To compare the marginal and internal fit and fracture resistance of three-unit provisional fixed dental prostheses (FDPs) fabricated by additive, subtractive, and conventional methods. MATERIAL AND METHODS Eighty 3-unit FDPs were fabricated on metal dies of the maxillary right second premolar and second molar by four different techniques (n = 20): The direct method by using autopolymerizing polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), indirect method by the compression molding technique, subtractive manufacturing by using PMMA blocks, and additive manufacturing by using digital light processing technology. The adaptation of restorations at the marginal, axial, cuspal, and fossa areas was assessed by using the silicone replica technique. After thermocycling and cyclic loading, the fracture resistance was measured by a universal testing machine. Data were analyzed by a two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA), ANOVA, and Tukey test (α = .05). RESULTS The mean gap measured in the additive group was lower than that in all other groups at all points (p < .05); however, the difference in the marginal gap with the subtractive group was not significant (p = .995). The mean marginal and axial gaps in the subtractive group were significantly lower than the corresponding values in both conventional groups (p < .05). A significant difference existed between all groups regarding the mean cuspal and fossa gaps (p < .05). The mean fracture resistance of the additive group was significantly higher than that of indirect (p = .018) and direct (p < .001) groups, and the fracture resistance of the subtractive group was significantly higher than that of the direct group (p = .020). CONCLUSION The digitally fabricated provisional FDPs showed superior marginal and internal fit and higher fracture resistance than the conventionally fabricated FDPs. Between the digital methods, the additive technique yielded superior internal fit.

Abstract
Background and Objectives: Ceramic veneers represent the most appropriate treatment option for minimally invasive aesthetic rehabilitation. For long-term clinical success, the accurate marginal and internal adaptation of dental restorations are of paramount importance. The aim of this in vitro study is to assess the effect of a novel (patented) design of veneers compared to conventional ones on their marginal and internal gap to the prepared tooth surface. Materials and Methods: Twenty-four lithium disilicate ceramic veneers are obtained using Computer-Aided-Design (CAD) and then milled using Computer-Aided-Manufacturing (CAM). The samples are divided into two groups: 12 conventional (CO) veneers (i.e., with a linear marginal contour) and 12 crenelated (CR) veneers, the latter with the novel sinusoidal marginal design. All samples are bonded to frontal teeth, and the adhesive interfaces are analyzed using two methods, optical microscopy and micro-Computed Tomography (CT): the former for the accuracy of the marginal gap and the latter for the internal gap (as well as for the homogeneity of the luting cement) of ceramic veneers. Results: STATA and one-way ANOVA tests reveal significant differences between CO and CR veneers: (i) the marginal gap is smaller for CR (64 μm) than for CO veneers (236 μm); (ii) the internal adaptation is better for CR veneers: for a cement width of up to 120 μm, the covered surface for the CR group is 81.5%, while for the CO group it is 64.5%; (iii) the mean of the porosities within the cement is not significantly different (3.4·106 μm3 for CO and 3.9·106 μm3 for CR veneers), with a higher standard deviation for the CO group. Analytical modeling is achieved for internal gaps using the micro-CT results. The characteristic functions obtained allow us to compare the volume of luting cement for the two types of veneers. Conclusion: The novel veneers design produces an improvement in the marginal and internal adaptation of the restorations to the prepared tooth surface. Thus, it provides favorable premises for better clinical performances.

Abstract
PURPOSE Error testing at each stage of prosthetic manufacturing remains relatively underdeveloped for computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing methods, and no experimental studies have validated the computer-aided design programs. This study aimed to test the accuracy and trueness of the computer-aided design of a three-unit fixed prosthesis. MATERIALS AND METHODS Three computer-aided design programs (Exocad, Dental System™, and inLab 16) were tested on the designs of a three-unit fixed partial denture, and a three-dimensional analysis program was used to calculate the internal clearance error for the computer-aided design prostheses. The Kruskal-Wallis and Dunn's post hoc tests were used to reveal significant differences in trueness between the three computer-aided design programs (α < 0.05). RESULTS Dental System™ showed the lowest mean error values for #24 and #26 at the mesial margin (both 0 µm), mesial wall (0.10, 0.12 µm, respectively), occlusal surface (-0.05, 0.10 µm), distal wall (0.23, -0.02 µm), and distal margin (both 0 µm). In sum, except for the mesial margin and distal margin site of tooth #26, the mean error value of Dental System™ was statistically the lowest, followed by those of Exocad and inLab 16 (p < 0.003). CONCLUSIONS The accuracy of computer-aided design differed according to the type of computer-aided design program. Dental System™ achieved the best trueness at the margins, axial walls, and occlusal surface, followed by Exocad and inLab 16.

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the bonding and wear properties of self-adhesive flowable restorative materials. Five self-adhesive flowable restorative materials were used. The study parameters were: (i) shear bond strengths; (ii) microleakage; (iii) occlusal wear; and (iv) qualitative evaluation of the bonding interface. The range of shear bond strengths of the materials was as follows: 7.4-12.2 MPa to ground enamel, 22.5-32.5 MPa to etched enamel, and 1.3-4.2 MPa to dentin. The microleakage scores of the materials did not show any statistically significant differences regardless of the presence or absence of etching. The wear facets on the materials showed 0.099-0.447 mm3 of volume loss and 148.6-365.3 µm maximum depth, with statistically significant differences between materials. Scanning electron microscopic images of the interfaces of the materials showed good adaptation regardless of substrate. The bonding and wear properties of self-adhesive flowable restorative materials were still limited and showed lower values than previously reported results for nanofilled composites with an adhesive system. Selective enamel etching can improve the bonding performance of these materials.

Abstract
The aim of this research was to examine marginal adaptation of three root end filling materials mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA), Biodentine and amalgam. Ninety single-rooted extracted human teeth of the maxillary intercanine sector were used in the study. After the endodontic treatment and retrograde preparation, teeth were divided into three groups, depending on the root-end filling material. Teeth were cut in longitudinal manner. Measurements of the total width of the marginal gap in micrometers were performed using scanning electron microscopy. The results showed that MTA and Biodentine have better marginal adaptation compared to amalgam expressed through the mean value of the measured edge crack, however without significant difference (p > .05). Mean value of the measured edge crack in Group 1 (MTA) was 8.17 μm, in Group 2 (Biodentine) 8.53 μm, and in Group 3 (amalgam) 9.13 μm. All tested materials show a satisfactory degree of marginal adaptation, but MTA and Biodentine proved to be superior to amalgam.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To evaluate, in an in vitro study, the quantity of artefacts generated by two different restorative materials, and to determine the diagnostic accuracy of cone beam CT (CBCT) scans and periapical radiographs in identifying gaps in prosthetic crowns. METHODS A total of 30 teeth restored with metal-ceramic (n = 15) and all-ceramic (n = 15) crowns, properly adapted and with 0.30- and 0.50 mm gaps, underwent CBCT exams (with voxel sizes of 0.25 and 0.30 mm) and periapical radiographs. The artefacts generated by two different crowns were quantified and compared by the Mann-Whitney test. In addition, five examiners evaluated the presence or absence of gaps in periapical radiographs and CBCT images. The accuracy of tests was determined by the area under the receiver operatring characteristic curve and these values were compared by using the Kruskal-Wallis test. RESULTS There was no significant difference in artefact values between the different restorative materials and the different resolutions of CBCT images. Regarding the accuracy of the tests evaluated, periapical radiography and CBCT with voxel size 0.25 mm showed the best performance for smaller gaps (0.30 mm). For larger gaps (0.50 mm), all exams tested showed the same performance. CONCLUSIONS Periapical radiography was still the most cost-beneficial method for the diagnosis of maladaptation in dental restorations. CBCT exams did not improve accuracy in detecting gaps in prosthetic crowns.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM) systems are widely used for the fabrication of porcelain-fused-to-metal (PFM) crowns. OBJECTIVES This study was conducted to compare PFM crowns through triple scanning in terms of marginal discrepancy between the CAD/CAM and lost-wax fabrication techniques. MATERIAL AND METHODS Twenty uniform resin dies of a prepared maxillary first molar were randomly divided into 2 groups: conventional lost-wax; and milling. Marginal discrepancy was evaluated at the framework and porcelain steps through triple scanning and direct visualization under a stereomicroscope. Then, the crowns were cemented to the related die and the marginal gap was measured with triple scanning, direct visualization under a stereomicroscope and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The data was analyzed using the independent t test and the one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA). The significance level was set at 0.05. RESULTS Differences in the mean marginal gap were measured by the various evaluation methods. Triple scanning and stereomicroscopy identified increasing discrepancy during the fabrication process. According to the results of the independent t test, stereomicroscopy showed no difference after cementation between the CAD/CAM and lost-wax groups (p > 0.05), triple scanning showed higher fitness in the CAD/CAM group (p < 0.05), and SEM showed better adaptation in the lost-wax group (p < 0.05); however, there was a positive correlation between the findings of stereomicroscopy and SEM (p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS The cobalt-chromium crowns had clinically acceptable marginal fitness from both the CAD/CAM and lost-wax techniques; however, the lost-wax group showed lower marginal discrepancy after cementation according to SEM.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This in vitro study was conducted to compare the effect of universal bonding application strategy (i.e., self-etch and etch-and-rinse) on marginal adaptation of bulk-fill and conventional composite resins in Class II restorations. MATERIALS AND METHODS In this in vitro study sixty sound premolars extracted for orthodontic reasons were selected. The samples were allocated to four groups based on the universal bonding application strategy (self-etch and etch and rinse) and type of composite (bulk-fill and conventional). In each group, boxes were prepared with a depth of 4 mm on the mesial surfaces. Finally, the marginal adaptation of the samples was evaluated under a stereomicroscope. Two-way ANOVA was used to compare the marginal adaptation data in the study. Statistical significance was set at P < 0.05. RESULTS Considering the type of universal bonding application strategy, there was a statistically significant difference in marginal adaptation. Etch-and-rinse strategy showed better marginal adaptation compared to self-etch strategy (P < 0.001). However, there was no statistically significant difference in marginal adaptation between the two composite resins (P = 0.829). Furthermore, the interaction between the two factors (type of universal bonding application strategy and type of composite resin) was not statistically significant (P = 0.629). CONCLUSION Etch-and-rinse bonding application strategy in both the bulk-fill and conventional composite resins exhibited better marginal adaptation compared to self-etch bonding application strategy. However, the difference of marginal adaptation between the two types of composite resins (bulk and conventional) was not significant.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Evaluate the effects of the scanning techniques and the crystallization in the internal and marginal adaptation of milled lithium disilicate crowns by two techniques computer microtomography analysis. MATERIALS AND METHODS Sixteen polyurethane teeth prepared for a complete crown were divided into two groups according to the scanner method (n = 8): indirect (IND), dental stone models were scanned with laser-surface scanner, and direct (DIR), digital typodont creates with an intraoral scanner. Internal and marginal gap were evaluated by micro-computed tomography (microCT). The replica technique (RT) was applied for analysis of total volume (TV) and marginal volume (MV) gap in microCT. The data showed normal distribution (Shapiro-Wilk test). One-way ANOVA (scanner techniques) with repeated measures (crystallization) was performed. Multiple comparisons were performed with Bonferroni adjustment (α = .05). RESULTS The axial gap showed a significant difference between the times (P = .017) for lower values after crystallization. The vertical marginal gap presented a significant difference in times for higher value after crystallization (P = .001). The marginal horizontal gap IND was greater than DIR after crystallization (P = .001) and IND before lower than after crystallization. For TV was not significant difference and MV in DIR was reduction (P = .002) after crystallization. CONCLUSION Crystallization changes the relationship between the crown and tooth, reducing internal gap and preventing the adequate fit in indirect and direct scanning. CLINICAL SIGNIFICANCE The measure gap under technological methodology is useful for adjust clinical parameters prosthetic in the CAD/CAM and the applicability of the new possibilities of analysis.

Abstract
In this study, polyurethane dimethacrylate (PUDMA) was synthetized from different components and incorporated into a direct resin composite restoration system with the aim to buffer tooth-resin interfacial stresses and maintain the marginal adaptation. The tensile strength, elongation at fracture (ε), and thermal stability of the PUDMA layer were characterized, showing a tensile strength of 22 MPa, an ε of 112%, and a thermal decomposition temperature of about 282°C. In addition, the degree of conversion, water sorption/solubility, hydrophobicity, microtensile bond strength (μTBS), marginal leakage, and cytotoxicity in vitro were evaluated for the PUDMA layer. The data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA, except for leakage depths (which were analyzed using the Wilcoxon paired-rank test). The level of significance was set at 0.05. Compared with dental adhesives, PUDMA displayed a higher degree of conversion, lower water sorption/solubility, and improved hydrophobicity and biocompatibility in vitro. After thermocycling, the μTBS of the restoration system containing PUDMA had increased compared with the μTBS at 24 h. Restorations containing PUDMA showed lower leakage depths than those which did not contain PUDMA. In conclusion, because of its hydrophobic and elastic nature, the PUDMA layer, when used as an intermediate between tooth and resin restoratives, may buffer interfacial stresses, improve the stability and durability of the bonding interface, and reduce microleakage.

Therefore, the aim of this study was to offer a comparison between a CAM prosthesis and its design model by superimposing the CAD model with the digitization of the manufactured prosthesis. MATERIALS AND METHODS The metrological inspection developed in this study and presented in this article involved a comparison of the points cloud obtained by micro-computed tomography (micro-CT) and the CAD model of the prosthesis. First, an estimation of all inspection-method induced measurement errors was carried out, in which the measurement errors were assessed by proceeding to the dimensional inspection of a reference object of known dimensions. Then, the metrological inspection was extrapolated to a dental prosthesis. RESULTS The estimation of measurement errors presented satisfying results compared with the usual metrological protocols developed by the dentistry research community. The dimensional deviation was estimated at 0.31% and the form deviation at 0.165 µm between the Gaussian sphere and the certified ball. The inspection of the manufactured surfaces revealed under-milled areas on the occlusal face, particularly on the anatomical fossae, and an irregular margin limit compared with its smooth design. CONCLUSION A reliable micro-CT evaluation of the dimensional accuracy of a manufactured dental prosthesis compared with the CAD model demonstrated the performance level of CAD/CAM systems. The evaluation reliability was confirmed by the estimation of prior measurement errors. This estimation is essential for the metrological analysis.

Abstract
Background The purpose of this study was to investigate the behavior of a resin-based 2,2-bis (p-[2'-hydroxy-3'-methacryloxypropoxy] phenylene) propane and a composite resin modified with oxirane, regarding the ability of marginal sealing, both with direct restorations and indirect restorations. Materials and Methods To achieve this, mesio- and disto-occlusal cavities were made on the same tooth, totalling 100 cavities. These cavities were restored with two materials, Filtek P90 (3M ESPE) and Opallis (FGM). Then, they were divided into two groups: Fifty direct restorations, each sample restored with the two materials, following the manufacturer's protocol and fifty indirect restorations, and then cemented with a paste obtained by diluting the resin in its adhesive. The templates were thermally cycled, 30 s at 5°C and 30 s at 55°C for 500 cycles and then were immersed in methylene blue for 24 h. Afterward, they were trimmed using a plaster trimmer from occlusal toward a gingival direction. These samples were analyzed with stereomicroscope (×3) by two blinded observers. Then, a system which considers the average number of surrounding walls that have suffered infiltration on a scale of 0-3 was used. Results Data were subjected to statistical analysis (Mann-Whitney and Kruskal-Wallis tests) with a significance level of 5% maximum. Conclusion It was concluded that the indirect restorations showed the greatest number of restorations with score 0 and 1 (34) and lowest score 2 and 3 (16). This suggests that indirect restorations regardless of the material used behaved more effectively regarding the marginal sealing of restorations.

Abstract
Objectives: Adhesion and marginal adaptation of a claimed bioactive restorative material (ACTIVA BioACTIVE Restorative) to human teeth were compared with those of a resin-modified glass ionomer cement (Fuji II LC) and a control resin composite (Ceram X Mono). Material and Methods: Shear bond strength and marginal adaptation to enamel and dentine were assessed after no pretreatment of the hard tissues or after etching with phosphoric acid (ACTIVA BioACTIVE Restorative and Ceram X Mono) or polyacrylic acid (Fuji II LC). For ACTIVA BioACTIVE Restorative, the effect of applying a self-etch adhesive (Xeno Select, Dentsply Sirona) was also investigated. Data were analyzed using non-parametric tests (α = 0.05). Results: Bond strength and marginal adaptation in enamel and dentine were significantly different among the investigated materials (p<.05). Due to loss of restorations, it was not possible to measure bond strength of ACTIVA BioACTIVE Restorative if no pretreatment was performed or if dentine was etched; however, use of the self-etch adhesive resulted in similar bond strength as Ceram X Mono. Etching improved adhesion of Fuji II LC to enamel and dentine. Regarding marginal adaptation, ACTIVA BioACTIVE Restorative showed the highest wall-to-wall contraction to enamel in all pretreatment groups and the overall highest wall-to-wall contraction to dentine after etching. Due to loss of restorations, no marginal assessment was possible on cavities with margins in dentine when no pretreatment was used. The use of a self-etch adhesive with ACTIVA BioACTIVE Restorative resulted in similar adaptation to dentine compared to the other materials. Conclusion: The self-adhesive property of ACTIVA BioACTIVE Restorative is nonexistent.

Abstract
Objective: The objective of this study is to compare the marginal adaptation of feldspathic porcelain crowns using two computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing systems, one of them is open and the other is closed. Materials and Methods: Twenty identical titanium abutments were divided into two groups: open system (OS), where ceramic crowns were created using varied equipment and software, and closed system (CS), where ceramic crowns were created using the CEREC system. Through optical microscopy analysis, we assess the marginal adaptation of the prosthetic interfaces. The data were subjected to the distribution of normality and variance. The t-test was used for the analysis of the comparison factor between the groups, and the one-way ANOVA was used to compare the variance of crown analysis regions within the group. A significance level of 5% was considered for the analyses. Results: There was a significant difference between the systems (P = 0.007), with the CS group having the higher mean (23.75 μm ± 3.05) of marginal discrepancy when compared to the open group (17.94 μm ± 4.77). Furthermore, there were no differences in marginal discrepancy between the different points between the groups (P ≥ 0.05). Conclusions: The studied groups presented results within the requirements set out in the literature. However, the OS used presented better results in marginal adaptation.

Abstract
Computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing fabrication of implant-supported frameworks is a standard procedure, and the use of ceramic-veneered cobalt-chromium alloys is increasing. However, no data are available concerning the precision of fit of these frameworks and the impact on the fit of the veneering procedure. The aim of this study was to evaluate the fit of computer numeric-controlled-milled cobalt-chromium and titanium implant frameworks for edentulous maxillas, provided with six implants. An additional aim was to evaluate the effect of ceramic veneering on the fit of the cobalt-chromium frameworks. Ten stone casts simulating an edentulous maxilla provided with six dental implants and abutments were produced. One computer numeric-controlled-milled cobalt-chromium framework and one titanium framework were fabricated for each stone cast. Each stone cast and corresponding titanium and cobalt-chromium framework was measured with a coordinate measuring machine in the three-dimensional (X axis, Y axis, and Z axis) directions. Both milled titanium and cobalt-chromium frameworks presented a good fit in the vertical plane (Z axis), 5.3 µm for titanium frameworks and 4.6 µm for the cobalt-chromium frameworks. The titanium frameworks showed a statistically significant smaller mean degree of misfit in the horizontal plane, X (5.0 µm) and Y (2.8 µm) axes as compared with the cobalt-chromium frameworks presenting a mean deviation of 13.5 µm in X axis and 6.3 µm in Y axis (P < 0.001). After ceramic veneering of the cobalt-chromium frameworks, the horizontal distortion significantly decreased from 13.5 to 9.7 µm in X axis (P = 0.007) and from 6.3 to 4.4 µm in Y axis (P = 0.017). The fit of both titanium and cobalt-chromium frameworks was very good. There were small but significant differences in fit between the titanium and cobalt-chromium frameworks, but the difference is of no clinical significance. The ceramic veneering resulted in a minor but significant improvement of the fit for the cobalt-chromium frameworks.

Abstract
The objective of this study was to perform a systematic review on the use of radiographic methods for the diagnosis of misfit in dental prostheses and restorations. The MEDLINE bibliographic database was searched from 1950 to February 2014 for reports on the radiographic diagnosis of misfits. The search strategy was limited to English-language publications using the following combined MeSH terms in the search strategy: (Dental Restoration OR Dental Prosthesis OR Crown OR Inlays OR Dental Abutments) and (Dental Leakage OR Prosthesis Fitting OR Dental Marginal Adaptation OR Surface Properties) and (Radiography, Dental OR Radiography, Dental, Digital OR Cone-Beam Computed Tomography). Twenty-eight publications were identified and read in full text, and 14 studies fulfilled criteria for inclusion. Information regarding the use of radiographic methods for the diagnosis of misfits in dental prosthesis and restorations, and in which the methodology/results comprised information regarding how the sample was collected/prepared, the method, imaging protocol, presence of a reference test and the outcomes were evaluated. QUADAS criteria was used to rate the studies in high, moderate or low quality. The evidence supporting the use of radiographic methods for the diagnosis of misfits in dental prosthesis and restorations is limited to low-/moderate-quality studies. The well-established intra-oral orthogonal projection is still under investigation and considered the most appropriate method, both when evaluating the relation between dental restoration to tooth and abutment to implant. Studies using digital radiographs have not evaluated the effect of image post-processing, and tomography has not been evaluated.
