Experimental and Simulation Study on Welding Characteristics and Parameters of Gas Metal Arc Welding for Q345qD Thick-Plate Steel

The welding and construction processes for H-type thick-plate bridge steel involve complex multi-pass welding processes, which make it difficult to ensure its welding performance. Accordingly, it is crucial to explore the inherent correlations between the welding process parameters and welding quality, and apply them to welding robots, eliminating the instability in manual welding. In order to improve welding quality, the GMAW (gas metal arc welding) welding process parameters are simulated, using the Q345qD bridge steel flat joint model. Four welds with X-shaped grooves are designed to optimize the parameters of the welding current, welding voltage, and welding speed. The optimal welding process parameters are investigated through thermal-elastic-plastic simulation analysis and experimental verification. The results indicate that, when the welding current is set to 230 A, the welding voltage to 32 V, and the welding speed to 0.003 m/s, the maximum deformation of the welded plate is 0.52 mm, with a maximum welding residual stress of 345 MPa. Both the simulation results of multi-pass welding, and the experimental tests meet the welding requirements, as they show no excessive stress or strain. These parameters can be applied to building large steel-frame bridges using welding robots, improving the quality of welded joints.

Study of the Solder Characteristics of IGBT Modules Based on Thermal-Mechanical Coupling Simulation

The insulated-gate bipolar transistor (IGBT) represents a crucial component within the domain of power semiconductor devices, which finds ubiquitous employment across a range of critical domains, including new energy vehicles, smart grid systems, rail transit, aerospace, etc. The main characteristics of its operating environment are high voltage, large current, and high power density, which can easily cause issues, such as thermal stress, thermal fatigue, and mechanical stress. Therefore, the reliability of IGBT module packaging has become a critical research topic. This study focuses on the damage of power device solder layers and applies heat transfer theory. Three typical solders for welding IGBTs (92.5Pb5Sn2.5Ag, Sn3.0Ag0.5Cu (SAC305), and nano-silver solder paste) are analyzed using JMatPro software to simulate their characteristics. First, a finite element analysis method is used to simulate the entire IGBT module with ANSYS Workbench platform. The study compares the impact of three types of solders on the overall heat transfer of the IGBT module under normal operation and welding layer damage conditions. The characteristics are analyzed based on changes in the junction temperature, heat flow path, and the law of thermal stress and deformation. The findings indicated that under steady-state working conditions, adjacent chips in a multi-chip IGBT module had significant thermal coupling, with a maximum temperature difference between chip junctions reaching up to 13 °C, and a phenomenon of heat concentration emerged. The three types of solders could change the thermal conductivity and heat transfer direction of the IGBT module to varying degrees, resulting in a temperature change of 3-6 °C. Under conditions of solder layer damage, the junction temperature increased linearly with the severity of the damage. In the 92.5Pb5Sn2.5Ag and Sn3.0Ag0.5Cu (SAC305) solders, the presence of intermetallic compounds (IMCs) led to more stress concentration points in the solder layer, with the maximum stress reaching 7.14661 × 10⁷ MPa and concentrated at the edge of the solder layer. The nano-silver solder layer had the best thermal conductivity, and the maximum thermal deformation under the same conditions was only 1.9092 × 10^-5 m.

Research on the Impact Mechanical Properties of Real-Time High-Temperature Granite and a Coupled Thermal-Mechanical Constitutive Model

Studying the mechanical behavior of rocks under real-time high-temperature conditions is of great significance for the development of energy caverns, nuclear waste disposal projects, and tunneling engineering. In this study, a real-time high-temperature impact compression test was conducted on Sejila Mountain granite to explore the effects of temperature and external load on its mechanical properties. Based on the concepts of damage mechanics and statistics, a coupled thermal-mechanical (T-M) damage constitutive model was established, which considers the temperature effect and uses the double-shear unified strength as the yield criterion. The parameter expressions were clarified, and the accuracy and applicability of the model were verified by experimental data. The research results indicated that high temperatures had an obvious damaging and deteriorating effect on the strength of the granite, while an increase in impact velocity had an enhancing effect on the strength of the granite. The established constitutive model theoretical curve and test curve showed a high degree of agreement, indicating that the coupled T-M model can objectively represent the evolution process of damage in rocks and the physical meaning of its parameters is clear.

Analysis of Thermal-Mechanical Properties of Silicon Dioxide/Polyvinylidene Fluoride Reinforced Non-Woven Fabric (Polypropylene) Composites

In this paper, solution casting method is used to prepare the PP (polypropylene) non-woven fabric based composite film filled with silicon dioxide/polyvinylidene fluoride (SiO₂/PVDF). The mechanical and thermodynamic properties of PP/SiO₂/PVDF composites were studied by a uniaxial tensile test under different temperature and combustion experiment. It is found that the stress of PP/SiO₂/PVDF composite film with 4 wt % SiO₂ is the maximum value, reaching 18.314 MPa, 244.42% higher than that of pure PP non-woven. Meanwhile, the thermal–mechanical coupling tests indicate that with the increase of temperature, the ultimate stress and strain of the composite decrease. At the same time, the thermal shrinkage property of the composite during the heating process is studied. The modified composite has good thermal stability under 180 °C. Scanning electron microscope (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and thermogravimetric (TG) were used to characterize the pore shape, distribution and crystal phase change of the composite. The modified PP/SiO₂/PVDF composite film structure shows high strength and good thermal stability, and can better meet the requirements of strength and thermal performance of lithium-ion battery during the charging and discharging process.
