Abstract
BACKGROUND AND HYPOTHESIS The decision for acceptance or discard of the increasingly rare and marginal brain-dead donor kidneys in Eurotransplant (ET) countries has to be made without solid evidence. Thus, we developed and validated flexible clinicopathological scores called 2-Step Scores for the prognosis of delayed graft function (DGF) and one-year death-censored transplant loss (1y-tl) reflecting the current practice of six ET countries including Croatia and Belgium. METHODS The training set was n=620 for DGF and n=711 for 1y-tl, with validation sets n=158 and n=162. In step 1, stepwise logistic regression models including only clinical predictors were used to estimate the risks. In step 2, risk estimates were updated for statistically relevant intermediate risk percentiles with nephropathology. RESULTS Step 1 revealed an increased risk of DGF with increased cold ischaemia time, donor and recipient BMI, dialysis vintage, number of HLA-DR mismatches or recipient CMV IgG positivity. On the training and validation set, c-statistics were 0.672 and 0.704, respectively. At a range between 18% and 36%, accuracy of DGF-prognostication improved with nephropathology including number of glomeruli and Banff cv (updated overall c statistics of 0.696 and 0.701, respectively).Risk of 1y-tl increased in recipients with cold ischaemia time, sum of HLA-A. -B, -DR mismatches and donor age. On training and validation sets, c-statistics were 0.700 and 0.769, respectively. Accuracy of 1y-tl prediction improved (c-statistics = 0.706 and 0.765) with Banff ct. Overall, calibration was good on the training, but moderate on the validation set; discrimination was at least as good as established scores when applied to the validation set. CONCLUSION Our flexible 2-Step Scores with optional inclusion of time-consuming and often unavailable nephropathology should yield good results for clinical practice in ET, and may be superior to established scores. Our scores are adaptable to donation after cardiac death and perfusion pump use.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Web-based self-help interventions for parents of children with ADHD and other externalizing disorders have been proven to be effective. In order to recommend individualized and optimized interventions, a better understanding of the acceptance and utilization of this innovative treatment approach is needed. Previous research has frequently employed subjective reports of utilization, but the validity of these studies may be limited. METHODS Data from the German WASH study were used. Participants (n = 276) were randomly assigned to the intervention condition (a) web-based self-help or (b) web-based self-help with optional telephone-based support calls. Data collection took place at baseline (T1) and 12 weeks later (T2). Utilization data were tracked using a log file generated for each participant at T2. Prediction models were calculated using CART (Classification and Regression Trees), a method known mostly from the field of machine learning. RESULTS Acceptance, of the intervention as defined in this paper was very high on objective (89.4% have taken up the intervention) and subjective measures (91.4% reported having used the intervention and 95.3% reported they would recommend the intervention to a friend). The average number of logins corresponded to recommendations. Predictors of acceptance and predictors of utilization were similar and included, e.g., child's externalizing symptoms, parental psychopathology, and above all additional telephone-based support by counselors. CONCLUSIONS Through a detailed identification of acceptance and utilization, and the predictors thereof, we were able to gain a better understanding of the acceptance and utilization of web-assisted self-help for a parent management intervention in the treatment of children with ADHD and ODD. These findings can be used to recommend web-based interventions to particularly suitable families. It should be noted that some form of support is required for an intensive engagement with the content of the program. Abstract
BACKGROUND Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, vaccination has been a crucial strategy for mitigating transmission and disease severity. However, vaccine-effectiveness may be influenced by various factors, including booster vaccination, as well as personal factors such as age, sex, BMI, smoking, and comorbidities. To investigate the potential effects of these factors on SARS-CoV-2 infection and disease severity, we analyzed data from the third round of the Cologne Corona Surveillance (CoCoS) project, a large cross-sectional survey. METHODS The study was conducted mid-February to mid-March 2022 in Cologne, Germany. A random sample of 10,000 residents aged 18 years and older were invited to participate in an online survey. Information on participants' demographics (age, sex), SARS-CoV-2 infections, vaccination status, smoking, and preexisting medical conditions were collected. The outcomes of the study were: (1) the occurrence of SARS-CoV-2 infection despite vaccination (breakthrough infection) and (2) the occurrence of moderate-to-severe disease as a result of a breakthrough infection. Cox proportional-hazards regression was used to investigate possible associations between the presence/absence of booster vaccination, personal factors and the occurrence of SARS-CoV-2 infection. Associations with moderate-to-severe infection were analyzed using the Fine and Gray subdistribution hazard model. RESULTS A sample of 2,991 residents responded to the questionnaire. A total of 2,623 primary immunized participants were included in the analysis of breakthrough infection and 2,618 in the analysis of SARS-CoV-2 infection severity after exclusions due to incomplete data. The multivariable results show that booster vaccination (HR = 0.613, 95%CI 0.415-0.823) and older age (HR = 0.974, 95%CI 0.966-0.981) were associated with a reduced hazard of breakthrough infection. Regarding the severity of breakthrough infection, older age was associated with a lower risk of moderate-to-severe breakthrough infection (HR = 0.962, 95%CI0.949-0.977). Female sex (HR = 2.570, 95%CI1.435-4.603), smoking (HR = 1.965, 95%CI1.147-3.367) and the presence of chronic lung disease (HR = 2.826, 95%CI1.465-5.450) were associated with an increased hazard of moderate-to-severe breakthrough infection. CONCLUSION The results provide a first indication of which factors may be associated with SARS-CoV-2 breakthrough infection and moderate-to-severe course of infection despite vaccination. However, the retrospective nature of the study and risk of bias in the reporting of breakthrough infection severity limit the strength of the results. Abstract
CONTEXT Sexual dimorphism has direct consequences on the incidence and survival of cancer. Early and accurate diagnosis is crucial to improve prognosis. OBJECTIVE This work aimed to characterized the influence of sex and adrenal asymmetry on the emergence of adrenal tumors. METHODS We conducted a multicenter, observational study involving 8037 patients with adrenal tumors, including adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC), aldosterone-producing adenoma (APA), cortisol-secreting adrenocortical adenomas (CSAs), non-aldosterone-producing adrenal cortical adenoma (NAPACA), pheochromocytoma (PCC), and neuroblastoma (NB), and investigated tumor lateralization according to sex. Human adrenal tissues (n = 20) were analyzed with a multiomics approach that allows determination of gene expression, catecholamine, and steroid contents in a single sample. In addition, we performed a literature review of computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging-based studies examining adrenal gland size. RESULTS ACC (n = 1858); CSA (n = 68), NAPACA (n = 2174), and PCC (n = 1824) were more common in females than in males (female-to-male ratio: 1.1:1-3.8:1), whereas NBs (n = 2320) and APAs (n = 228) were less prevalent in females (0.8:1). ACC, APA, CSA, NAPACA, and NB occurred more frequently in the left than in the right adrenal (left-to-right ratio: 1.1:1-1.8:1), whereas PCC arose more often in the right than in the left adrenal (0.8:1). In both sexes, the left adrenal was larger than the right adrenal; females have smaller adrenals than males. CONCLUSION Adrenal asymmetry in both sexes may be related to the pathogenesis of adrenal tumors and should be considered during the diagnosis of these tumors.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Despite organ shortages, the discard rate of deceased donor kidneys is high. Risk factors for this trend warrant further study. METHODS We investigated reasons for discard in a cohort of brain death donors with marginal kidneys and procurement biopsies. Paraffin embedded procurement biopsies were systematically reevaluated and graded for the purpose of the study. Assessment included percentage of global glomerulosclerosis, Banff Lesion scores and tubular epithelial damage. Donor-, transplant process-, perfusion quality-, histopathology-, and recipient-related parameters were compared between discarded and transplanted organs. RESULTS Although most clinical characteristics were similar between donors whose kidneys were transplanted and those whose kidneys were procured but discarded, discarded kidneys were more likely to be from donors with hepatitis C, to have undergone wedge biopsies, to show changes of acute and chronic injury and to be deemed poor quality. Except for obvious anatomic abnormalities, kidneys were often discarded due to the findings of procurement biopsies. Donors of kidneys discarded for histologic reasons more often had hypertension, coronary artery disease, stroke, and increased serum creatinine. The reason for discard was unknown in 20% of cases. Discarded kidneys came from donors who appeared to be clinically similar to donors whose kidneys were utilized for transplant. CONCLUSION A considerable proportion of discarded kidneys were of acceptable quality. The analysis of the outcome of every recovered organ could help to overcome this problem. Procurement biopsies more often lead to discard than to transplantation of recovered organs. Proper handling during allocation has to be determined.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE The Oxford Classification for IgA nephropathy is the most successful example of an evidence-based nephropathology classification system. The aim of our study was to replicate the glomerular components of Oxford scoring with an end-to-end deep learning pipeline that involves automatic glomerular segmentation followed by classification for mesangial hypercellularity (M), endocapillary hypercellularity (E), segmental sclerosis (S) and active crescents (C). METHODS A total number of 1056 periodic acid-Schiff (PAS) whole slide images (WSIs), coming from 386 kidney biopsies, were annotated. Several detection models for glomeruli, based on the Mask R-CNN architecture, were trained on 587 WSIs, validated on 161 WSIs, and tested on 127 WSIs. For the development of segmentation models, 20,529 glomeruli were annotated, of which 16,571 as training and 3958 as validation set. The test set of the segmentation module comprised of 2948 glomeruli. For the Oxford classification, 6206 expert-annotated glomeruli from 308 PAS WSIs were labelled for M, E, S, C and split into a training set of 4298 glomeruli from 207 WSIs, and a test set of 1908 glomeruli. We chose the best-performing models to construct an end-to-end pipeline, which we named MESCnn (MESC classification by neural network), for the glomerular Oxford classification of WSIs. RESULTS Instance segmentation yielded excellent results with an AP50 ranging between 78.2-80.1 % (79.4 ± 0.7 %) on the validation and 75.1-77.7 % (76.5 ± 0.9 %) on the test set. The aggregated Jaccard Index was between 73.4-75.9 % (75.0 ± 0.8 %) on the validation and 69.1-73.4 % (72.2 ± 1.4 %) on the test set. At granular glomerular level, Oxford Classification was best replicated for M with EfficientNetV2-L with a mean ROC-AUC of 90.2 % and a mean precision/recall area under the curve (PR-AUC) of 81.8 %, best for E with MobileNetV2 (ROC-AUC 94.7 %) and ResNet50 (PR-AUC 75.8 %), best for S with EfficientNetV2-M (mean ROC-AUC 92.7 %, mean PR-AUC 87.7 %), best for C with EfficientNetV2-L (ROC-AUC 92.3 %) and EfficientNetV2-S (PR-AUC 54.7 %). At biopsy-level, correlation between expert and deep learning labels fulfilled the demands of the Oxford Classification. CONCLUSION We designed an end-to-end pipeline for glomerular Oxford Classification on both a granular glomerular and an entire biopsy level. Both the glomerular segmentation and the classification modules are freely available for further development to the renal medicine community.

Abstract
The discovery of a square magnetic-skyrmion lattice in GdRu2Si2, with the smallest so far found skyrmion size and without a geometrically frustrated lattice, has attracted significant attention. In this work, we present a comprehensive study of surface and bulk electronic structures of GdRu2Si2 by utilizing momentum-resolved photoemission (ARPES) measurements and first-principles calculations. We show how the electronic structure evolves during the antiferromagnetic transition when a peculiar helical order of 4f magnetic moments within the Gd layers sets in. A nice agreement of the ARPES-derived electronic structure with the calculated one has allowed us to characterize the features of the Fermi surface (FS), unveil the nested region along kz at the corner of the 3D FS, and reveal their orbital compositions. Our findings suggest that the Ruderman-Kittel-Kasuya-Yosida interaction plays a decisive role in stabilizing the spiral-like order of Gd 4f moments responsible for the skyrmion physics in GdRu2Si2. Our results provide a deeper understanding of electronic and magnetic properties of this material, which is crucial for predicting and developing novel skyrmion-based systems.

Abstract
Several scores have been devised for providing a prognosis of outcomes after kidney transplantation. This study is a comprehensive test of these scores in a cohort of deceased donors with kidneys of lower-than-average quality and procurement biopsies. In total, 15 scores were tested on a retrospective cohort consisting of 221 donors, 223 procurement biopsies, and 223 recipient records for performance on delayed graft function, graft function, or death-censored graft loss. The best-performing score for DGF was the purely clinical Chapal score (AUC 0.709), followed by the Irish score (AUC 0.684); for graft function, the Nyberg score; and for transplant loss, the Snoeijs score (AUC 0.630) and the Leuven scores (AUCs 0.637 and 0.620). The only score with an acceptable performance was the Chapal score. Its disadvantage is that knowledge of the cold ischemia time is required, which is not known at allocation. None of the other scores performed acceptably. The scores fared better in discarded kidneys than in transplanted kidneys. Our study shows an unmet need for practical prognostic scores useful at the time of a decision about discarding or accepting deceased donor kidneys of lower-than-average quality in the Eurotransplant consortium.

Abstract
Collective spin excitations in magnetically ordered crystals, called magnons or spin waves, can serve as carriers in novel spintronic devices with ultralow energy consumption. The generation of well-detectable spin flows requires long lifetimes of high-frequency magnons. In general, the lifetime of spin waves in a metal is substantially reduced due to a strong coupling of magnons to the Stoner continuum. This makes metals unattractive for use as components for magnonic devices. Here, we present the metallic antiferromagnet CeCo2P2, which exhibits long-living magnons even in the terahertz (THz) regime. For CeCo2P2, our first-principle calculations predict a suppression of low-energy spin-flip Stoner excitations, which is verified by resonant inelastic X-ray scattering measurements. By comparison to the isostructural compound LaCo2P2, we show how small structural changes can dramatically alter the electronic structure around the Fermi level leading to the classical picture of the strongly damped magnons intrinsic to metallic systems. Our results not only demonstrate that long-lived magnons in the THz regime can exist in bulk metallic systems, but they also open a path for an efficient search for metallic magnetic systems in which undamped THz magnons can be excited.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Non-hyperemic pressure ratios (NHPRs) like resting full-cycle ratio (RFR), diastolic pressure ratio during entire diastole (dPR[entire]) and diastolic pressure ratio during wave-free period (dPR[WFP]) are increasingly used to guide revascularization. The effect of NHPRs on mid-term prognosis has not been well established. OBJECTIVE We investigated the prognostic implications of NHRPs in patients whose revascularization was deferred based on fractional flow reserve (FFR) in a single-centre population. METHODS NHPRs and FFR were calculated offline from pressure tracings by an independent core laboratory. Follow-up data were acquired through records of hospital visits or telephone interviews. The primary outcome was a vessel-oriented composite outcome (VOCO) (a composite of cardiac death, vessel-related myocardial infarction, and ischemia-driven revascularization) in deferred vessels at 2 years. RESULTS 316 patients with 377 deferred lesions were analysed. Discordance of NHPRs and FFR was found in 13.0-18.3% of lesions. The correlation coefficient between NHPRs was 0.99 (95% confidence interval 0.99-1.00). At 2 years, VOCO occurred in 19 lesions (5.0%). Estimated glomerular filtration rate < 30 mL/min/1.73 m2 [hazard ratio (HR) 5.7, p = 0.002], previous myocardial infarction (HR 3.3, p = 0.018), diabetes (HR 2.7, p = 0.042), RFR ≤ 0.89 (HR 2.7, p = 0.041) and dPR[WFP] ≤ 0.89 (HR 2.7, p = 0.049) were associated with higher incidence of VOCO at 2 years in the univariable analysis. A non-significant trend was found for dPR[entire] (HR 1.9, p = 0.26). CONCLUSION A positive RFR or dPR[WFP] were associated with a worse prognosis in deferred lesions, suggesting that the use of NHPRs in addition to FFR may improve risk estimation.

Abstract
Envisaging antiferromagnetic spintronics pivots on two key criteria of high transition temperature and tuning of underlying magnetic order using straightforward application of magnetic field or electric current. Here, we show that NiSi metal can provide suitable new platform in this quest. First, our study unveils high temperature antiferromagnetism in single crystal NiSi with TN ⩾ 700 K. Antiferromagnetic order in NiSi is accompanied by the non-centrosymmetric magnetic character with small ferromagnetic component in a-c plane. Second, we find that NiSi manifests distinct magnetic and electronic hysteresis responses to field applications due to the disparity in two moment directions. While magnetic hysteresis is characterized by one-step switching between ferromagnetic states of uncompensated moment, electronic behavior is ascribed to metamagnetic switching phenomena between non-collinear spin configurations. Importantly, the switching behaviors persist to high temperature. The properties underscore the importance of NiSi in the pursuit of antiferromagnetic spintronics. Abstract
BACKGROUND Reducing rates of permanent pacemaker implantation (PPI) after transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) is important for achieving the best procedural outcomes. The cusp overlap technique (COT) implements procedural steps including an overlap angulation of the right and left coronary cusp to mitigate this complication. AIMS We investigated the incidence of PPI and complication rates following the COT compared to the standard three-cusp implantation technique (3CT) in an all-comers cohort. METHODS A total of 2,209 patients underwent TAVI with the self-expanding Evolut platform from January 2016 to April 2022 at five sites. Baseline, procedural and in-hospital outcome characteristics were compared for both techniques before and after one-to-one propensity score matching. RESULTS A total of 1,151 patients were implanted using the 3CT and 1,058 using the COT. At discharge, the rates of PPI (17.0 vs 12.3%; p=0.002) and moderate/severe paravalvular regurgitation (4.6% vs 2.4%; p=0.006) were significantly reduced with the COT compared with 3CT within the unmatched cohort. Overall procedural success and complication rates were similar; major bleeding was less common in the COT group (7.0% vs 4.6%; p=0.020). These results remained consistent after propensity score matching. In multivariable logistic regression analysis, right bundle branch block (odds ratio [OR] 7.19, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 5.18-10.0; p<0.001) and diabetes mellitus (OR 1.38, 95% CI: 1.05-1.80; p=0.021) emerged as predictors of PPI, whereas the COT (OR 0.63, 95% CI: 0.49-0.82; p<0.001) was protective. CONCLUSIONS The introduction of the COT was associated with a significant and relevant reduction of PPI and paravalvular regurgitation rates without an increase in complication rates.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Genomic alterations of the anaplastic lymphoma kinase gene (ALK) occur recurrently in neuroblastoma, a pediatric malignancy of the sympathetic nervous system. However, information on their development over time has remained sparse. METHODS ALK alterations were assessed in neuroblastomas at diagnosis and/or relapse from a total of 943 patients, covering all stages of disease. Longitudinal information on diagnostic and relapsed samples from individual patients was available in 101 and 102 cases for mutation and amplification status, respectively. RESULTS At diagnosis, ALK point mutations occurred in 10.5% of all cases, with highest frequencies in stage 4 patients <18 months. At relapse, ALK alteration frequency increased by 70%, both in high-risk and non-high-risk cases. The increase was most likely due to de novo mutations, frequently leading to R1275Q substitutions, which are sensitive to pharmacological ALK inhibition. By contrast, the frequency of ALK amplifications did not change over the course of the disease. ALK amplifications, but not mutations, were associated with poor patient outcome. CONCLUSIONS The considerably increased frequency of ALK mutations at relapse and their high prevalence in young stage 4 patients suggest surveying the genomic ALK status regularly in these patient cohorts, and to evaluate ALK-targeted treatment also in intermediate-risk patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The subcutaneous ICD established its role in the prevention of sudden cardiac death in recent years. The occurrence of premature battery depletion in a large subset of potentially affected devices has been a cause of concern. The incidence of premature battery depletion has not been studied systematically beyond manufacturer-reported data. METHODS Retrospective data and the most recent follow-up data on S-ICD devices from fourteen centers in Europe, the US, and Canada was studied. The incidence of generator removal or failure was reported to investigate the incidence of premature S-ICD battery depletion, defined as battery failure within 60 months or less. RESULTS Data from 1054 devices was analyzed. Premature battery depletion occurred in 3.5% of potentially affected devices over an observation period of 49 months. CONCLUSIONS The incidence of premature battery depletion of S-ICD potentially affected by a battery advisory was around 3.5% after 4 years in this study. Premature depletion occurred exclusively in devices under advisory. This is in line with the most recently published reports from the manufacturer. Abstract
The number of patients awaiting a kidney transplant is constantly rising but lack of organs leads kidneys from extended criteria donors (ECD) to be used to increase the donor pool. Pre-transplant biopsies are routinely evaluated through the Karpinski-Remuzzi score but consensus on its correlation with graft survival is controversial. This study aims to test a new diagnostic model relying on digital pathology to evaluate pre-transplant biopsies and to correlate it with graft outcomes. Pre-transplant biopsies from 78 ECD utilized as single kidney transplantation were scanned, converted to whole-slide images (WSIs), and reassessed by two expert nephropathologists using the Remuzzi-Karpinski score. The correlation between graft survival at 36 months median follow-up and parameters assigned by either WSI or glass slide score (GSL) by on-call pathologists was evaluated, as well as the agreement between the GSL and the WSIs score. No relation was found between the GSL assessed by on-call pathologists and graft survival (P = 0.413). Conversely, the WSI score assigned by the two nephropathologists strongly correlated with graft loss probability, as confirmed by the ROC curves analysis (DeLong test P = 0.046). Digital pathology allows to share expertise in the transplant urgent setting, ensuring higher accuracy and favoring standardization of the process. Its employment may significantly increase the predictive capability of the pre-transplant biopsy evaluation for ECD, improving the quality of allocation and patient safety.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Predicting outcome after transplantation of marginal kidneys is a challenging task. Donor creatinine or estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) are integral components of the respective risk scores. However, there is uncertainty on which of their values obtained successively during procurement is the most suitable. MATERIAL AND METHODS This is a retrospective study of 221 adult brain death donors with marginal kidneys, transplanted in 223 recipients. We applied logistic regression analysis to investigate the association between initial (at hospital admission), nadir (lowest), zenith (highest) and terminal (at recovery) donor eGFR with primary non-function (PNF), delayed graft function (DGF), 3- and 12-month graft function and 1- and 3-year patient- and death-censored graft survival. RESULTS In the multivariate analysis, admission, terminal, and the lowest donor eGFR could most accurately predict DGF. The respective ORs [95% CI] were: 0.875 [0.771-0.993], 0.818 [95% CI: 0.726-0.922] and 0.793 [0.689-0.900]. Although not being significant for DGF (OR 0.931 [95% CI: 0.817-1.106]), the highest eGFR was the best predictor of 3-month graft function (adjusted b coefficient 1.161 [95% CI: 0.355-1.968]). Analysis of primary nonfunction showed that determination of initial and the highest eGFR proved to be the best predictors. The respective ORs [95% CI] were: 0.804 [0.667-0.968] and 0.750 [0.611-0.919]. There were no differences in the risk associations of each of the four eGFR recordings with patient- and graft survival. CONCLUSION The various eGFR recordings determined during the procurement process of marginal donors can predict PNF, DGF and 3- and 12-month graft function. Regarding short-term patient- and graft survival, there appears to be impacted by recipient factors rather than donor kidney function.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Transcriptome analysis could be an additional diagnostic parameter in diagnosing kidney transplant (KTx) rejection. Here, we assessed feasibility and potential of NanoString nCounter analysis of KTx biopsies to aid the classification of rejection in clinical practice using both the Banff-Human Organ Transplant (B-HOT) panel and a customized antibody-mediated rejection (AMR)-specific NanoString nCounter Elements (Elements) panel. Additionally, we explored the potential for the classification of KTx rejection building and testing a classifier within our dataset. METHODS Ninety-six formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded KTx biopsies were retrieved from the archives of the ErasmusMC Rotterdam and the University Hospital Cologne. Biopsies with AMR, borderline or T cell-mediated rejections (BLorTCMR), and no rejection were compared using the B-HOT and Elements panels. RESULTS High correlation between gene expression levels was found when comparing the 2 chemistries pairwise (r = 0.76-0.88). Differential gene expression (false discovery rate; P < 0.05) was identified in biopsies diagnosed with AMR (B-HOT: 294; Elements: 76) and BLorTCMR (B-HOT: 353; Elements: 57) compared with no rejection. Using the most predictive genes from the B-HOT analysis and the Element analysis, 2 least absolute shrinkage and selection operators-based regression models to classify biopsies as AMR versus no AMR (BLorTCMR or no rejection) were developed achieving an receiver-operating-characteristic curve of 0.994 and 0.894, sensitivity of 0.821 and 0.480, and specificity of 1.00 and 0.979, respectively, during cross-validation. CONCLUSIONS Transcriptomic analysis is feasible on KTx biopsies previously used for diagnostic purposes. The B-HOT panel has the potential to differentiate AMR from BLorTCMR or no rejection and could prove valuable in aiding kidney transplant rejection classification.

Abstract
We consider helical rotation of skyrmions confined in the potentials formed by nanodisks. Based on numerical and analytical calculations we propose the skyrmion echo phenomenon. The physical mechanism of the skyrmion echo formation is also proposed. Because of the distortion of the lattice, impurities, or pinning effect, confined skyrmions experience slightly different local fields, which leads to dephasing of the initial signal. The interaction between skyrmions also can contribute to the dephasing process. However, switching the magnetization direction in the nanodiscs (e.g., by spin transfer torque) also switches the helical rotation of the skyrmions from clockwise to anticlockwise (or vice versa), and this restores the initial signal (which is the essence of skyrmion echo).

Abstract
BACKGROUND Asymptomatic hyperuricemia is frequently observed in pediatric kidney transplant recipients; symptomatic hyperuricemia, however, is a rare complication. Only few data are available in this patient population. We, therefore, investigated the prevalence of hyperuricemia and its association with kidney transplant function and blood pressure in a multicenter cohort of pediatric kidney transplant recipients. METHODS This is a retrospective, observational multicenter registry study. All pediatric kidney transplant recipients in the CERTAIN database with at least one documented serum uric acid level and a follow-up of 5 years posttransplant were eligible. We identified 151 patients with 395 measurements of serum uric acid. We calculated the prevalence of hyperuricemia, analyzed potential risk factors and clinical consequences such as elevated blood pressure and reduced estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR). Statistical analysis was performed using IBM SPSS Statistics 26. RESULTS One hundred and ten of 395 (27.8%) serum uric acid levels were above 416 µmol/L (7.0 mg/dL), defined as the upper limit of normal. Univariate analysis showed a significant (p = .026) inverse association of serum uric acid with eGFR overtime. There was no significant association of serum uric acid concentrations with body mass index (z-score), blood pressure (z-score), or sex. No episodes of gout were documented. CONCLUSION This study shows that hyperuricemia is present in a considerable number of patients sometime after pediatric kidney transplantation and is associated with lower eGFR. Whether hyperuricemia contributes to faster decline of graft function or to the overall cardiovascular risk of these patients remains to be elucidated.

Abstract
Ultrafast manipulation of magnetism bears great potential for future information technologies. While demagnetization in ferromagnets is governed by the dissipation of angular momentum1-3, materials with multiple spin sublattices, for example antiferromagnets, can allow direct angular momentum transfer between opposing spins, promising faster functionality. In lanthanides, 4f magnetic exchange is mediated indirectly through the conduction electrons4 (the Ruderman-Kittel-Kasuya-Yosida (RKKY) interaction), and the effect of such conditions on direct spin transfer processes is largely unexplored. Here, we investigate ultrafast magnetization dynamics in 4f antiferromagnets and systematically vary the 4f occupation, thereby altering the magnitude of the RKKY coupling energy. By combining time-resolved soft X-ray diffraction with ab initio calculations, we find that the rate of direct transfer between opposing moments is directly determined by this coupling. Given the high sensitivity of RKKY to the conduction electrons, our results offer a useful approach for fine tuning the speed of magnetic devices.

Abstract
PURPOSE Vertebral osteomyelitis (VO) is a severe clinical entity associated with significant morbidity and mortality. Several studies have showed that successful treatment of VO patients leads to significantly improved quality of life (QoL). Nevertheless, QoL levels of these patients remained below those of the general population. There are rarely studies focusing on predicting factors for favourable QoL after surgically treated VO. The aim of this study was to identify factors influencing positively the QoL of patients undergoing surgery for VO. METHODS We conducted a prospective monocentric study including surgically treated VO patients from 2008 to 2016. Data were collected before (T0) and 1 year (T1) after surgery. Primary outcome was favourable QoL defined as back pain with disability restricting normal life activity with a cutoff value ≥ 12 on Oswestry Disability Index (ODI). ETHICS Ethical approval was given by the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Cologne (09-182). RESULTS A total of 119 patients surviving 1 year after surgically treated VO were analysed. Favourable QoL was achieved in 35/119 patients. On multivariate analysis, younger age (hazard ratio = HR: 0.95; 95% CI 0.91-0.99; p = 0.022), lower albumin (HR: 0.9; 0.83-0.98; p = 0.019) an ASA score ≤ 2 (HR:4.24; 95%CI 1.42-12.68; p = 0.010), and a lower preoperative leg pain on the VAS (HR: 0.86; 95% CI 0.76-0.97; p = 0.018) were identified as independent risk factors for favourable QoL. Interestingly, the absence of neurological deficits was not predictive for a favourable outcome by means of QoL. CONCLUSION One-third of surgically treated VO patients (29%) in our cohort achieved favourable QoL by means of ODI. Our findings can facilitate an estimation of the prognosis when informing the patient before surgery, and underscore that spine disability questionnaires, such as ODI, measuring QoL, are mandatory to evaluate comprehensively the outcome of this entity.

Abstract
PURPOSE The purpose of this study was to analyze genetic and nongenetic associations with reticular pseudodrusen (RPD) in patients with and without age-related macular degeneration (AMD). METHODS This case-control study included 2,719 consecutive subjects from the prospective multicenter European Genetic Database (EUGENDA). Color fundus photographs and optical coherence tomography (OCT) scans were evaluated for the presence of AMD and RPD. Association of RPD with 39 known AMD polymorphisms and various nongenetic risk factors was evaluated. Stepwise backward variable selection via generalized linear models (GLMs) was performed based on models including the following: a) age, sex, and genetic factors and b) all predictors. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves and the areas under the curve (AUCs) were determined. RESULTS RPD were present in 262 cases (no AMD, n = 9 [0.7%; early/intermediate AMD, n = 75 [12.4%]; late AMD, n = 178 [23.8%]). ROC analysis of the genetic model including age, APOE rs2075650, ARMS2 rs10490924, CFH rs800292, CFH rs12144939, CFI rs10033900, COL8A1 rs13081855, COL10A1 rs3812111, GLI3 rs2049622, and SKIV2L rs4296082 revealed an AUC of 0.871. Considering all possible predictors, backward selection revealed a slightly different set of genetic factors, as well as the following nongenetic risk factors: smoking, rheumatoid arthritis, steroids, antiglaucomatous drugs, and past sunlight exposure; the results showed an AUC of 0.886. CONCLUSIONS RPD share a variety of genetic and nongenetic risk factors with AMD. Future AMD grading systems should integrate RPD as an important risk phenotype.

Abstract
The Jahn-Teller effect is a geometrical distortion which lowers the system symmetry and lifts orbital degeneracy in molecules and solids. It affects a wide range of properties, including magnetic and band structures. In this work we propose a family of Cr-containing intrinsic magnetic topological insulator materials which are subjected to a pseudo-Jahn-Teller effect-CrBi2Se4, CrBi2Te2Se2, and CrBi2Te4. Using first-principles calculations we study their properties and investigate the impact of Jahn-Teller distortions on the electronic and magnetic properties. We show that these distortions can significantly affect magnetic anisotropy energy and band structure. Without the distortions accounted for, all three of the compounds exhibit a semimetallic band structure. The distortions open a band gap, which in the cases of CrBi2Te2Se2 and CrBi2Te4 is inverted. We also investigate the CrBi2Te2Se2 and CrBi2Te4 surface band structure and demonstrate that the surface states have a topological origin.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION New drugs for multiple myeloma have considerably increased the options for consecutive treatment lines in regular care. Official treatment guidelines still discuss several regimens per line, and therefore, current practice is of topical interest. Large cross-sectional studies revealed a greater than linear loss of patients reaching consecutive treatment lines of ever decreasing effectiveness. METHODS In a longitudinal approach, we analyzed data of all 145 multiple myeloma patients treated in our outpatient clinic in Germany between January 1, 2012, and December 31, 2019, using a time-to-event analysis with death as competitive risk. RESULTS The estimated incidences of reaching the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th lines of therapy were 88, 66, 44, and 30%, respectively. Median times to subsequent treatment lines were 34, 18, 14, 13, and 15 months, respectively. DISCUSSION Percentages of patients reaching later therapy lines were considerably greater than predicted by cross-sectional studies and median times after the 1st line did not suggest a further decrease in effectiveness, while use of new drug regimens was similar to that reported in cross-sectional studies. CONCLUSION Effectiveness of later therapy lines appears to be underestimated by cross-sectional analyses, and the conveyed focus on 1st-line treatment for multiple myeloma needs to be scrutinized.

Abstract
Discovered in 1962, the divalent ferromagnetic semiconductor EuS (TC = 16.5 K, Eg = 1.65 eV) has remained constantly relevant to the engineering of novel magnetically active interfaces, heterostructures, and multilayer sequences and to combination with topological materials. Because detailed information on the electronic structure of EuS and, in particular, its evolution across TC is not well-represented in the literature but is essential for the development of new functional systems, the present work aims at filling this gap. Our angle-resolved photoemission measurements complemented with first-principles calculations demonstrate how the electronic structure of EuS evolves across a paramagnetic-ferromagnetic transition. Our results emphasize the importance of the strong Eu 4f-S 3p mixing for exchange-magnetic splittings of the sulfur-derived bands as well as coupling between f and d orbitals of neighboring Eu atoms to derive the value of TC accurately. The 4f-3p mixing facilitates the coupling between 4f and 5d orbitals of neighboring Eu atoms, which mainly governs the exchange interaction in EuS.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION The survival of children with stage 4(M) neuroblastoma without MYCN amplification and below the age of 18 months is considered better than the still dismal outcome of older high-risk neuroblastoma patients. This study analyzes the impact of clinical and molecular characteristics on the long-term outcome. PATIENTS AND METHODS Clinical presentation, survival, and recurrence patterns of patients enrolled onto trials NB90, NB97, and NB2004 were retrospectively analyzed. Gene expression signatures based on RNA microarrays (TH10) were investigated if tumor material was available. RESULTS Between 1990 and 2015, 177 patients with stage 4(M) MYCN nonamplified neuroblastoma aged less than 18 months at diagnosis were eligible. After a median follow-up of 9.7 years (IQR 5.0, 13.4), the proportions of 10-year event-free survival (EFS) and overall survival (OS) were 73% (95% confidence interval [CI] 67-79%) and 86% (95% CI 80-92%), respectively. Of the 27 neuroblastoma recurrences, 44% occurred in more than one site. Four additional patients presented histologically mature ganglioneuroma at recurrence. Six patients developed a secondary malignancy. The secondary 5-year EFS and OS of the 27 patients with neuroblastoma recurrence were 44% and 59%, respectively. TH10 gene expression signature was not prognostically predictive in the investigated subcohort. CONCLUSION The outcome of patients with stage 4(M) neuroblastoma aged less than 18 months is favorable when treated with high-risk or otherwise intensive therapy. The development of secondary malignancies and the potential of maturation to ganglioneuroma call for a controlled stepwise reduction of treatment intensity.

Abstract
In this report we present a systematic study of the magnonic modes in the disordered Fe0.5Co0.5alloy based on the Heisenberg Hamiltonian using two complementary approaches. In order to account for substitutional disorder, on the one hand we directly average the transverse magnetic susceptibility in real space over different disorder configurations and on the other hand we use the coherent potential approximation (CPA). While the method of direct averaging is numerically exact, it is computationally expensive and limited by the maximal size of the supercell which can be simulated on a computer. On the contrary the CPA does not suffer from this drawback and yields a cheap numerical scheme. Therefore, we additionally compare the results of these two approaches and show that the CPA gives very good results for most of the magnetic properties considered in this report, including the magnon energies and the spatial shape of the eigenmodes. However, it turns out that while reproducing the general trend, the CPA systematically underestimates the disorder induced damping of the magnons. This provides evidence that the physics of impurity scattering in this system is governed by non-local effects missing in the CPA. Finally, we study the real space eigenmodes of the system, including their spatial shapes, and analyze their temperature dependence within the random phase approximation.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To investigate whether Staphylococcus aureus bloodstream infection (SAB) patients at high risk for complications or relapse benefit from combination therapy with adjunctive rifampicin or fosfomycin. METHODS In this post hoc analysis, SAB patients with native valve infective endocarditis, osteoarticular infections or implanted foreign devices were included. The co-primary endpoints were all-cause 90 day mortality and death or SAB-related late complications within 180 days. To overcome treatment selection bias and account for its time dependence, inverse probability of treatment weights were calculated and included in marginal structural Cox proportional hazard models (MSCMs). RESULTS A total of 578 patients were included in the analysis, of which 313 (54%) received combination therapy with either rifampicin (n = 242) or fosfomycin (n = 58). In the multivariable MSCM, combination therapy was associated with a better outcome, that is, a lower rate of death or SAB-related late complications within 180 days (HR 0.65, 95% CI 0.46-0.92). This beneficial effect was primarily seen in patients with implanted foreign devices, in which combination therapy was associated with a lower rate of death or SAB-related late complications within 180 days (HR 0.53, 95% CI 0.35-0.79) and a lower 90 day mortality (HR 0.57, 95% CI 0.36-0.91). Upon agent-specific stratification, we found no significant differences in outcomes between combination therapy containing rifampicin and fosfomycin; however, the number of patients in most subgroups was not large enough to draw firm conclusions. CONCLUSIONS In patients with implanted foreign devices, combination therapy was associated with a better long-term outcome. Larger prospective studies are needed to validate these findings.

Abstract
Background and Aims
Antibody-mediated rejection (AMR) is among the most common causes for kidney transplant loss. The histological diagnosis is hampered by significant intra- and interobserver variability. Training a deep learning classifier for the recognition of AMR on glomerular transections as the most decisive compartment could establish a reliable and perfectly reproducible diagnostic method.
Method
We identified 48 biopsies with AMR (all positive for donor-specific antibody) and 38 biopsies without AMR according to Banff 2017 from our archive. Photographs were taken from all non-globally sclerosed glomeruli on two PAS-stained level sections, yielding a total of 1,655 images as a training set. 1,503 images could be labeled by three experienced nephropathologists conclusively as AMR or non-AMR in a blinded fashion. We trained a DenseNet-121 classifier (pre-trained on ImageNet) with basic online augmentation. In addition, we implemented StyPath++, a data augmentation algorithm that leverages a style transfer mechanism, addressing significant domain shifts in histopathology. Each sample was assigned a consensus label generated by the pathologists.
Results
Five-fold cross validation schemes produced a weighted glomerular level performance of 88.1%, exceeding the baseline performance by 5%. The improved generalization ability of the StyPath++ augmented model shows that it is possible to construct reliable glomerular classification algorithms with scarce datasets.
Conclusion
We created a deep learning classifier with excellent performance and reproducibility for the diagnosis of AMR on glomerular transections. We plan to expand the training set, including challenging cases of differential diagnoses like glomerulonephritis or other glomerulopathies. We are also interested in external clinicopathological datasets to further validate our results.

Abstract
Spin-orbit coupling (SOC) is pivotal for various fundamental spin-dependent phenomena in solids and their technological applications. In semiconductors, these phenomena have been so far studied in relatively weak electron-electron interaction regimes, where the single electron picture holds. However, SOC can profoundly compete against Coulomb interaction, which could lead to the emergence of unconventional electronic phases. Since SOC depends on the electric field in the crystal including contributions of itinerant electrons, electron-electron interactions can modify this coupling. Here we demonstrate the emergence of the SOC effect in a high-mobility two-dimensional electron system in a simple band structure MgZnO/ZnO semiconductor. This electron system also features strong electron-electron interaction effects. By changing the carrier density with Mg-content, we tune the SOC strength and achieve its interplay with electron-electron interaction. These systems pave a way to emergent spintronic phenomena in strong electron correlation regimes and to the formation of quasiparticles with the electron spin strongly coupled to the density.

Abstract
Using density functional theory, we propose the (MnSb2Te4)·(Sb2Te3)n family of stoichiometric van der Waals compounds that harbor multiple topologically nontrivial magnetic phases. In the ground state, the first three members of the family (n = 0, 1, 2) are 3D antiferromagnetic topological insulators, while for n ≥ 3 a special phase is formed, in which a nontrivial topological order coexists with a partial magnetic disorder in the system of the decoupled 2D ferromagnets, whose magnetizations point randomly along the third direction. Furthermore, due to a weak interlayer exchange coupling, these materials can be field-driven into the FM Weyl semimetal (n = 0) or FM axion insulator states (n ≥ 1). Finally, in two dimensions, we reveal these systems to show intrinsic quantum anomalous Hall and AFM axion insulator states, as well as quantum Hall state, achieved under external magnetic field. Our results demonstrate that MnSb2Te4 is not topologically trivial as was previously believed that opens possibilities of realization of a wealth of topologically nontrivial states in the (MnSb2Te4)·(Sb2Te3)n family.

Abstract
Background Neuroblastoma screening aims to reduce neuroblastoma-related mortality. A controlled trial showed no reduction in stage 4 disease incidence and preliminary mortality data. This article presents epidemiologic and clinical data 20 years after cessation of the screening program. Methods The patients with detected disease in the screening area were compared with the clinically diagnosed patients in the control area and in the prestudy and poststudy cohorts. All statistical tests were 2-sided. Results The cumulative incidence for children aged 1 to 6 years in the birth study cohorts (1994-1999) in the screening arm was 13.4 cases per 100 000 births (95% confidence interval [CI] = 12.2 to 14.6) based on 61.2% of screening participants and 38.8% of nonparticipants. Screening participants had a cumulative incidence of 15.7 (95% CI = 14.0 to 17.4) per 100 000 births. The cumulative incidence in the contemporary control cohort was 9.3 (95% CI = 8.2 to 10.3) per 100 000 births, 7.6 (95% CI = 6.8 to 8.4) in the prestudy cohort, and 8.1 (95% CI = 7.4 to 8.9) in the poststudy cohort from 2000 to 2004 (P < .001 each). The increased incidence in the screening cohort was restricted to stages 1 through 3, while stage 4 incidence was not reduced. The cumulative mortality for deaths within 10 years from diagnosis and per 100 000 births remained unchanged. Patients with stage 4 disease detected by screening had better biological characteristics and an improved outcome compared with those stage 4 cases not detected by screening. Conclusions Neuroblastoma screening at 1 year of age reduced neither stage 4 incidence nor neuroblastoma mortality and was affected by overdiagnosis, leading to unnecessary treatment. A few screening-detected stage 4 cases represent a biologically interesting subgroup but do not change the recommendation to close the “catecholamine-based neuroblastoma screening book.”

Abstract
Quantum confinement leads to the emergence of several magnon modes in ultrathin layered magnetic structures. We probe the lifetime of these quantum confined modes in a model system composed of three atomic layers of Co grown on different surfaces. We demonstrate that the quantum confined magnons exhibit nonlinear decay rates, which strongly depend on the mode number, in sharp contrast to what is assumed in the classical dynamics. Combining the experimental results with those of linear-response density-functional calculations we provide a quantitative explanation for this nonlinear damping effect. The results provide new insights into the decay mechanism of spin excitations in ultrathin films and multilayers and pave the way for tuning the dynamical properties of such structures.

Abstract
We studied the propagation of an artificial skyrmion coupled to the vortex domain wall (VDW). We discovered the following effect: depending on the propagation's direction, the dynamics of the coupled skyrmion VDW can be faster than the isolated VDW's velocity. The reason for such behavior is the structural distortion that occurs in the coupled system. We interpret the numerical results in terms of the modified Thiele's equation. In particular, increasing the Thiele's equation counteractive coefficient leads to the perfect fitting with the micromagnetic simulation results.

We sought to assess the proportion of elicited close contacts diagnosed with coronavirus disease 2019 at the start of and before exiting quarantine in San Francisco. From June 8 to August 31, 6946 contacts were identified: 3008 (46.3%) were tested, 940 (13.5%) tested positive, and 90% tested positive in the first 9 days of quarantine.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The quantitative assessment of neuroblastoma cell content in bone marrow aspirates for response evaluation has been introduced recently. Data on the concordance of interobserver reports are lacking so far. METHODS Investigators of seven European countries representing national reference or large oncological centers convened in 2016. They agreed to quantitatively assess routine bone marrow smears of the participating institutions and to discuss the discrepant results in joint meetings. RESULTS From 2017 through 2019, three cytology rounds with 24, 28, and 28 bone marrow samples were run evaluating the representativity of the smears (yes/[restricted]/no) and the presence of tumor cells (yes/no and %). The comparison of the reports using κ (Fleiss) and α (Krippendorff) statistics demonstrated no robust reliabilities. The agreement on the representativity was moderate to poor, on the presence of tumor cells moderate to good, and on the percentage of tumor cells slight to moderate. Though the value of cytology is unquestioned to detect even tiny metastatic cells in bone marrow, the investigators unanimously agreed that a reliable quantification of the tumor cell content in bone marrow smears is unrealistic. For the key issue of representativity, a new practical definition was developed. CONCLUSION For any work with bone marrow aspirates, the representativity of the material is of paramount importance. A practical definition is proposed. A reliable quantitative cytological assessment of tumor cell content in bone marrow aspirates is not feasible in metastatic neuroblastoma. Therefore, its use as response criterion should be reconsidered.

Abstract
The physical mechanism of the plasmonic skyrmion lattice formation in a magnetic layer deposited on a metallic substrate is studied theoretically. The optical lattice is the essence of the standing interference pattern of the surface plasmon polaritons created through coherent or incoherent laser sources. The nodal points of the interference pattern play the role of lattice sites where skyrmions are confined. The confinement appears as a result of the magnetoelectric effect and the electric field associated with the plasmon waves. The proposed model is applicable to yttrium iron garnet and single-phase multiferroics and combines plasmonics and skyrmionics.

Abstract
AIM The aim of this study was to review epidemiological studies on the association between chronic exposures to road traffic noise and prevalence of arterial hypertension as well as blood pressure by using meta-analyses. METHODS A systematic literature search in the databases Medline® and Web of science™ as well as the database OpenGrey was conducted to identify suitable studies, namely epidemiological observational studies assessing objective exposures to road traffic noise at the subject's home place with analysis of their potential associations with arterial hypertension or blood pressure. Whenever possible, overall effects for the different relationships were estimated with meta-analyses. For statistical analyses R for windows was used. RESULTS A total of 31 eligible studies were identified. Meta-analyses were conducted for potential association between road traffic noise and prevalence of arterial hypertension in adults and for association with systolic and diastolic blood pressure in adults and children. There was a significant (p<0.01) increase of risk for arterial hypertension in adults when exposed to chronic road traffic noise with an increment of 7% per 5 dB(A). Overall effects for systolic blood pressure were positive but weak for children as well as adults without any statistical significance. For diastolic blood pressure there appeared to be no relationship with chronic exposure to road traffic noise in either of the two groups. CONCLUSION Considering the multiple methodological limitations of studies examined as well as the high level of heterogeneity in all random effects models, the estimated overall effects must be interpreted with caution. To examine potential associations between road traffic noise and arterial hypertension or measured blood pressure appropriately, more prospective cohort studies are necessary with precise assessments of noise exposure as well as clinical endpoints and with adjustments for relevant cofactors.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Long-term survival of high-risk neuroblastoma patients is still below 50% despite intensive multimodal treatment. This trial aimed to address whether the addition of two topotecan-containing chemotherapy courses compared to standard induction therapy improves event-free survival (EFS) of these patients. PATIENTS AND METHODS An open-label, multicenter, prospective randomized controlled trial was carried out at 58 hospitals in Germany and Switzerland. Patients aged 1-21 years with stage 4 neuroblastoma and patients aged 6 months to 21 years with MYCN-amplified tumors were eligible. The primary endpoint was EFS. Patients were randomly assigned to standard induction therapy with six chemotherapy courses or to experimental induction chemotherapy starting with two additional courses of topotecan, cyclophosphamide, and etoposide followed by standard induction chemotherapy (eight courses in total). After induction chemotherapy, all patients received high-dose chemotherapy with autologous hematopoietic stem cell rescue and isotretinoin for consolidation. Radiotherapy was applied to patients with active tumors at the end of induction chemotherapy. RESULTS Of 536 patients enrolled in the trial, 422 were randomly assigned to the control arm (n = 211) and the experimental arm (n = 211); the median follow-up time was 3.32 years (interquartile range 1.65-5.92). At data lock, the 3-year EFS of experimental and control patients was 34% and 32% [95% confidence Interval (CI) 28% to 40% and 26% to 38%; P = 0.258], respectively. Similarly, the 3-year overall survival of the patients did not differ [54% and 48% (95% CI 46% to 62% and 40% to 56%), respectively; P = 0.558]. The response to induction chemotherapy was not different between the arms. The median number of non-fatal toxicities per patient was higher in the experimental group while the median number of toxicities per chemotherapy course was not different. CONCLUSION While the burden for the patients was increased by prolonging the induction chemotherapy and the toxicity, the addition of two topotecan-containing chemotherapy courses did not improve the EFS of high-risk neuroblastoma patients and thus cannot be recommended. Abstract
We introduce a new approach of materials design for terahertz magnonics making use of quantum confinement of terahertz magnons in layered ferromagnets. We show that in atomically designed multilayers composed of alternating atomic layers of ferromagnetic metals one can efficiently excite different magnon modes associated with the quantum confinement in the third dimension, i.e., the direction perpendicular to the layers. We demonstrate experimentally that the magnonic band structure of these systems can be tuned by changing the material combination and the number of atomic layers. We realize the idea of opening band gaps, with a size of up to several tens of millielectronvolts, between different terahertz magnon bands and thereby report on the first step toward the realization of atomic-scale magnonic crystals.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The prognosis of patients with recurrences from stage 4 neuroblastoma is not uniformly dismal. The evaluation of new therapies therefore needs to consider the individual risks of the treated patients. This study aims to define clinically useful risk criteria. PATIENTS AND METHODS Inclusion criteria were: first recurrence of neuroblastoma stage 4 aged ≥18 months and enrollment in first line trials between 1997 and 2016. Patients were randomized into a training set (N = 310) and an independent validation set (N = 159). The primary endpoint was secondary event-free survival. The individual treatment elements the patients received during initial and recurrent disease were analyzed as binary and time-dependent variables. A five-step multiple time-dependent Cox regression analysis was performed on the training set to identify prognostic variables adjusted for the individual frontline treatment. The selected variables resulted in a prognostic index (PI) and were used to build a risk score system. The score was validated with the validation set. RESULTS Of the 469 patients, 372 were treated with curative intent and 97 with palliative intent. The PI included the variables number of recurrence organs (hazard ratio [HR] = 2.27), time to recurrence (HR = 2.03), liver metastasis at diagnosis (HR = 1.77), first recurrence at site of the primary tumor (HR = 1.55), and age (HR = 1.29). Three risk groups were built and confirmed in the validation set. The scoring system was likewise useful for the curatively or palliatively treated subgroups. CONCLUSION A new risk score system for patients with first recurrence of stage 4 neuroblastoma aged ≥18 months at diagnosis is proposed.

We report on the measurement of the γp→J/ψp cross section from E_{γ}=11.8 GeV down to the threshold at 8.2 GeV using a tagged photon beam with the GlueX experiment. We find that the total cross section falls toward the threshold less steeply than expected from two-gluon exchange models. The differential cross section dσ/dt has an exponential slope of 1.67±0.39 GeV^{-2} at 10.7 GeV average energy. The LHCb pentaquark candidates P_{c}^{+} can be produced in the s channel of this reaction. We see no evidence for them and set model-dependent upper limits on their branching fractions B(P_{c}^{+}→J/ψp) and cross sections σ(γp→P_{c}^{+})×B(P_{c}^{+}→J/ψp).

Abstract
Exposure to exogenous sex hormones with estrogenic or anti-androgen properties may influence intrauterine development of male genitals. This population-based cohort study based on data from 44,408 live-born singleton sons in the Danish National Birth Cohort (DNBC) aimed to investigate whether maternal use of oral contraceptives prior to or during early pregnancy increase the risk of cryptorchidism or hypospadias. We found no consistent association between use of oral contraceptives and cryptorchidism or hypospadias, neither in those exposed any time four months prior to conception [cryptorchidism: adjusted Odds Ratio (aOR): 1.06 (95% CI: 0.91; 1.23), hypospadias: 0.74 (95% CI: 0.53; 1.03)] nor in those exposed any time during the first trimester of pregnancy [cryptorchidism: aOR: 0.93 (95% CI: 0.53; 1.62), hypospadias: 1.02 (95% CI: 0.32; 3.23)]. Despite relatively strong exposure levels from oral contraceptive use in pregnancy, this study revealed no evidence of an increased risk of either two genital malformations.

Abstract
STUDY QUESTION Is maternal age at menarche associated with pubertal development in sons and daughters? SUMMARY ANSWER Maternal age at menarche was associated with pubertal development in both sons and daughters. WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY Studies have shown that age at menarche is greatly inherited from mother to daughter, but it remains largely unknown to what extent age at menarche in mothers is associated with timing of puberty in sons. STUDY DESIGN, SIZE, DURATION In this population-based study we used data from the Puberty Cohort nested within the Danish National Birth Cohort. Live-born singletons aged 11 were followed from 2012 to 2016. PARTICIPANTS/MATERIALS, SETTING, METHODS In total, 15 822 children (7697 sons and 8125 daughters) gave half-yearly information on puberty from the age of 11 years until full sexual maturity or 18 years of age through self-administrated questionnaires (participation rate 71%). Information on maternal age at menarche was reported by the mothers during pregnancy. Maternal age at menarche was used both as a continuous and as a categorical variable (earlier, same time or later than peers). A multivariable regression model for interval-censored data was used. MAIN RESULTS AND THE ROLE OF CHANCE Maternal age at menarche was positively associated with timing of genital development, pubic hair development, first ejaculation of semen, voice break, axillary hair development and acne in sons, and with timing of breast development, pubic hair development, menarche, axillary hair development and acne in daughters. In sons, the associations were of similar strength for all pubertal markers, whereas in daughters, the associations were strongest for breast development and menarche. LIMITATIONS, REASONS FOR CAUTION Age at menarche was recalled during pregnancy. However, studies indicate that age at menarche is recalled moderately in adulthood. Information on puberty was self-reported, but inaccuracy of data would probably cause non-differential misclassification. WIDER IMPLICATIONS OF THE FINDINGS Early maternal age at menarche was associated with earlier pubertal development, and late maternal age at menarche was associated with later pubertal development in both sons and daughters. The largest effect-estimates were for the associations between maternal age at menarche and the daughters' age at menarche and age at breast development. Abstract
Notch signaling is a core patterning module for vascular morphogenesis that codetermines the sprouting behavior of endothelial cells (ECs). Tight quantitative and temporal control of Notch activity is essential for vascular development, yet the details of Notch regulation in ECs are incompletely understood. We found that ubiquitin-specific peptidase 10 (USP10) interacted with the NOTCH1 intracellular domain (NICD1) to slow the ubiquitin-dependent turnover of this short-lived form of the activated NOTCH1 receptor. Accordingly, inactivation of USP10 reduced NICD1 abundance and stability and diminished Notch-induced target gene expression in ECs. In mice, the loss of endothelial Usp10 increased vessel sprouting and partially restored the patterning defects caused by ectopic expression of NICD1. Thus, USP10 functions as an NICD1 deubiquitinase that fine-tunes endothelial Notch responses during angiogenic sprouting.
