Abstract
Thrombocytopenia, a common adverse effect of linezolid, often occurs in patients lacking typical risk factors. In this study, we investigated the key risk factors for linezolid-induced thrombocytopenia using two real-world clinical databases and explored its underlying mechanism through in vitro and in vivo experiments. In a retrospective analysis of 150 linezolid-treated patients, multivariate analysis identified coadministration of lansoprazole, a proton pump inhibitor, as a significant independent risk factor for thrombocytopenia (odds ratio: 2.33, p = 0.034). Additionally, analysis of the Food and Drug Administration Adverse Event Reporting System database revealed a reporting odds ratio of thrombocytopenia for lansoprazole of 1.64 (95% CI: 1.25-2.16). In vitro studies showed that the uptake of PNU-142586, a major linezolid metabolite, was significantly higher in human organic anion transporter 3-expressing HEK293 (HEK-hOAT3) cells compared to HEK-pBK cells. The apparent IC50 value of lansoprazole against hOAT3-mediated transport of PNU-142586 was 0.59 ± 0.38 µM. In a pharmacokinetic study using rats, coadministration of linezolid with lansoprazole intravenously resulted in approximately a 1.7-fold increase in the area under the plasma concentration-time curve of PNU-142586, but not linezolid and PNU-142300. Moreover, PNU-142586, but not linezolid, exhibited concentration-dependent cytotoxicity in a human megakaryocytic cell line. These findings suggest that linezolid-induced thrombocytopenia should be due to delayed elimination of PNU-142586. Furthermore, delayed elimination of PNU-142586 due to renal failure and hOAT3-mediated transport inhibition by lansoprazole should exacerbate linezolid-induced thrombocytopenia.

Abstract
Salt stress is a common abiotic factor that restricts plant growth and development. As a halophyte, Tamarix hispida is a good model plant for exploring salt-tolerance genes and regulatory mechanisms. DNA-binding with one finger (DOF) is an important transcription factor (TF) that influences and controls various signaling substances involved in diverse biological processes related to plant growth and development, but the regulatory mechanisms of DOF TFs in response to salt stress are largely unknown in T. hispida. In the present study, a newly identified Dof gene, ThDOF8, was cloned from T. hispida, and its expression was found to be induced by salt stress. Transient overexpression of ThDOF8 enhanced T. hispida salt tolerance by enhancing proline levels, and increasing the activities of the antioxidant enzymes superoxide dismutase (SOD) and peroxidase (POD). These results were also verified in stably transformed Arabidopsis. Results from TF-centered yeast one-hybrid (Y1H) assays and EMSAs showed that ThDOF8 binds to a newly identified cis-element (TGCG). Expression profiling by gene chip analysis identified four potential direct targets of ThDOF8, namely the cysteine-rich receptor-like kinases genes, CRK10 and CRK26, and two glutamate decarboxylase genes, GAD41, and GAD42, and these were further verified by ChIP-quantitative-PCR, EMSAs, Y1H assays, and β-glucuronidase enzyme activity assays. ThDOF8 can bind to the TGCG element in the promoter regions of its target genes, and transient overexpression of ThCRK10 also enhanced T. hispida salt tolerance. On the basis of our results, we propose a new regulatory mechanism model, in which ThDOF8 binds to the TGCG cis-element in the promoter of the target gene CRK10 to regulate its expression and improve salt tolerance in T. hispida. This study provides a basis for furthering our understanding the role of DOF TFs and identifying other downstream candidate genes that have the potential for improving plant salt tolerance via molecular breeding.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The simplified endoscopic score of Crohn's disease (SES-CD) is the gold standard for quantitatively evaluating Crohn's disease (CD) activity but is invasive. This study aimed to develop and validate a machine learning (ML) model based on dual-energy CT enterography (DECTE) to noninvasively evaluate CD activity. METHODS We evaluated the activity in 202 bowel segments of 46 CD patients according to the SES-CD score and divided the segments randomly into training set and testing set at a ratio of 7:3. Least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) was used for feature selection, and three models based on significant parameters were established based on logistic regression. Model performance was evaluated using receiver operating characteristic (ROC), calibration, and clinical decision curves. RESULTS There were 110 active and 92 inactive bowel segments. In univariate analysis, the slope of spectral curve in the venous phases (λHU-V) has the best diagnostic performance, with an area under the ROC curve (AUC) of 0.81 and an optimal threshold of 1.975. In the testing set, the AUC of the three models established by the 7 variables to differentiate CD activity was 0.81-0.87 (DeLong test p value was 0.071-0.766, p > 0.05), and the combined model had the highest AUC of 0.87 (95% confidence interval (CI): 0.779-0.959). CONCLUSIONS The ML model based the DECTE can feasibly evaluate CD activity, and DECTE parameters provide a quantitative analysis basis for evaluating specific bowel activities in CD patients. CRITICAL RELEVANCE STATEMENT The machine learning model based on dual-energy computed tomography enterography can be used for evaluating Crohn's disease activity noninvasively and quantitatively. KEY POINTS Dual-energy CT parameters are related to Crohn's disease activity. Three machine learning models effectively evaluated Crohn's disease activity. Combined models based on conventional and dual-energy CT have the best performance.

Abstract
For higher vocational students, the college stage is an important period in their career development, and the college experience plays an important role in the relationship between their proactive personality and career adaptability, which in turn has a significant impact on their future career development. From the perspective of social cognitive career theory and taking 476 vocational students as samples, this paper explores the mediating role of college experience between proactive personality and career adaptability of vocational college students. The college experience scale is revised for higher vocational students, and it is verified to have good reliability and validity. SPSS and Amos were used to conduct correlation analysis,and the PROCESS macro was used for mediating effect analysis. The results show that the college experience of vocational students plays a partial mediating role in the effect of proactive personality on career adaptability. This work innovatively uses social cognitive career theory to explore the role of college experience in the relationship between proactive personality and career adaptability among vocational students. The theoretical models are established and empirical verification is conducted, confirming that higher vocational students' college experience can affect their career adaptability. These results provide empirical evidence for vocational colleges to improve the career guidance of college students, and intervention measures are proposed to enhance students' career adaptability during school years, thus promoting their sustainable development.

Abstract
BACKGROUND A growing number of studies have found that physical activity (PA) benefits mental health, and sedentary behavior (SB) increases the risk of psychological symptoms, but it remains unclear whether substituting the duration of different activities may affect the association, and whether sex difference exists among college students. METHODS A longitudinal survey was conducted in three colleges in Anhui province, China. A total of 8049 participants validly answered the questionnaire, which included demographic variables, PA, SB and negative emotions (depressive, anxiety, and stress symptoms). RESULTS Substituting 30 min per day of SB with equivalent walking was associated with lower scores of depressive symptoms. Stress symptoms were reduced when SB was substituted by moderate intensity PA (MPA) and walking. Substituting 30 min per day of MPA in place of walking and SB was associated with an amelioration of depressive and stress symptoms in females, and a reallocation of 30 min walking was associated with lower depressive and stress symptom scores when SB was replaced in males. CONCLUSIONS Replacing SB with walking and MPA ameliorates the depressive and stress symptoms in young adults. The results suggest a reallocation of time from SB or walking to MPA in females while from SB to walking in males may markedly reduce the depressive and stress symptoms in college population.

Abstract
Proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) are commonly used for gastric acid-related disorders, but their safety profile and risk stratification for high-burden diseases need further investigation. Analyzing over 2 million participants from five prospective cohorts from the US, the UK, and China, we found that PPI use correlated with increased risk of 15 leading global diseases, such as ischemic heart disease, diabetes, respiratory infections, and chronic kidney disease. These associations showed dose-response relationships and consistency across different PPI types. PPI-related absolute risks increased with baseline risks, with approximately 82% of cases occurring in those at the upper 40% of the baseline predicted risk, and only 11.5% of cases occurring in individuals at the lower 50% of the baseline risk. While statistical association does not necessarily imply causation, its potential safety concerns suggest that personalized use of PPIs through risk stratification might guide appropriate decision-making for patients, clinicians, and the public.

Abstract
Repairing damaged tissue caused by bacterial infection poses a significant challenge. Traditional antibacterial hydrogels typically incorporate various components such as metal antimicrobials, inorganic antimicrobials, organic antimicrobials, and more. However, drawbacks such as the emergence of multi-drug resistance to antibiotics, the low antibacterial efficacy of natural agents, and the potential cytotoxicity associated with metal antibacterial nanoparticles in hydrogels hindered their broader clinical application. In this study, we successfully developed imidazolium poly(ionic liquids) (PILs) polymer microspheres (APMs) through emulsion polymerization. These APMs exhibited notable antibacterial effectiveness and demonstrated minimal cell toxicity. Subsequently, we integrated the APMs into a gelatin methacryloyl (GelMA)-polyethylene glycol (PEG) hydrogel. This composite hydrogel not only showcased strong antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties but also facilitated the migration of human skin fibroblasts (HSF) and human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) and promoted osteogenic differentiation in vitro.

Abstract
Further assessment of ultraviolet C light-emitting diode (UVC-LED) irradiation for influencing shiitake mushrooms' (Lentinus edodes) volatile and sensory properties is needed. In this study, a comparison of UVC-LED irradiation treatment on the flavor profiles in various parts of shiitake mushrooms was conducted using gas chromatography-ion mobility spectrometry (GC-IMS) and sensory analysis. Sixty-three volatile compounds were identified in shiitake mushrooms. The fresh shiitake mushrooms were characterized by the highest values of raw mushroom odors. After UVC-LED treatment, the content of C8 alcohols decreased, especially that of 1-octen-3-ol, while the content of aldehydes increased, especially the content of nonanal and decanal. The score of fatty and green odors was enhanced. For fresh samples, the mushroom odors decreased and the mushroom-like odors weakened more sharply when treated in ethanol suspension than when treated with direct irradiation. The fruit odors were enhanced using direct UVC-LED irradiation for fresh mushroom samples and the onion flavor decreased. As for shiitake mushroom powder in ethanol suspension treated with UVC-LED, the sweaty and almond odor scores decreased and the vitamin D2 content in mushroom caps and stems reached 668.79 μg/g (dw) and 399.45 μg/g (dw), respectively. The results obtained from this study demonstrate that UVC-LED treatment produced rich-flavored, quality mushroom products.

Abstract
Lithium (Li) metal batteries (LMBs) with nickel (Ni)-rich layered oxide cathodes exhibit twice the energy density of conventional Li-ion batteries. However, their lifespan is limited by severe side reactions caused by high electrode reactivity. Fluorinated solvent-based electrolytes can address this challenge, but they pose environmental and biological hazards. This work reports on the molecular engineering of fluorine (F)-free ethers to mitigate electrode surface reactivity in high-voltage Ni-rich LMBs. By merely extending the alkyl chains of traditional ethers, we effectively reduce the catalytic reactivity of the cathode towards the electrolyte at high voltages, which suppresses the oxidation decomposition of the electrolyte, microstructural defects and rock-salt phase formation in the cathode, and gas release issues. The high-voltage Ni-rich NCM811-Li battery delivers capacity retention of 80 % after 250 cycles with a high Coulombic efficiency of 99.85 %, even superior to that in carbonate electrolytes. Additionally, this strategy facilitates passivation of the Li anode by forming a robust solid-electrolyte interphase, boosting the Li reversibility to 99.11 % with a cycling life of 350 cycles, which outperforms conventional F-free ether electrolytes. Consequently, the lifespan of practical LMBs has been prolonged by over 100 % and 500 % compared to those in conventional carbonate- and ether-based electrolytes, respectively.

Abstract
Bone repair strategies, based on endogenous stem cell recruitment, can effectively avoid immune rejection and the low utilization of exogenous stem cells. Endogenous stem cells can be recruited to the implantation site by loading chemokines onto bone tissue-engineered scaffolds. However, challenges such as unstable chemokine activity and easy inactivation after implantation remain significant. In the present study, composite fiber scaffolds ((IL8@LIP)-GelMA) consisting of Interleukin 8 (IL8) -loaded liposomes and GelMA were constructed by electrospinning and photocrosslinking, and its ability to recruit bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) and immunomodulatory effect was investigated. Compared to GelMA loaded directly with IL8, scaffolds of (IL8@LIP)-GelMA demonstrated superior protection of IL8 activity, ensuring a slow and continuous release. Both in vivo and in vitro experiments demonstrated that the (IL8@LIP)-GelMA scaffolds effectively recruited BMSCs to the desired sites. Additionally, the (IL8@LIP)-GelMA scaffolds exhibited the capacity to recruit more macrophages to the implantation site. Importantly, they promoted the polarization of macrophages toward the M2 anti-inflammatory phenotype, facilitating the transition from the inflammatory stage to the tissue repair stage. Therefore, (IL8@LIP)-GelMA scaffolds show great potential for cell-free tissue engineering applications and provide insights into the loading mode of growth factors in scaffolds.

Abstract
Objective: To examine the impact of moderate alcohol consumption on the progression of chronic kidney disease (CKD) in individuals diagnosed with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), as NAFLD has been identified as an autonomous risk factor for CKD and previous research has demonstrated a reduction in overall mortality in NAFLD patients who consume alcohol in moderation.Methods: This study included participants from ten consecutive rounds of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES:1998-2018). Multivariate logistic regression models were employed to assess the impact of moderate alcohol consumption on chronic kidney disease (CKD) in both male and female populations. Subgroup analysis was conducted by categorizing patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) based on the Fibrosis-4 (FIB-4) index.Results: 17040 participants were eligible to be included in the study. The logistic regression analysis model showed that moderate alcohol consumption was a protective factor for CKD in male NAFLD patients, with an unadjusted OR: 0.37 (0.22,0.65), and p < 0.001. After further adjustment, the association persisted. However, the association was not significant in female patients with NAFLD. Among men with low risk of liver fibrosis group, moderate alcohol consumption remained a protective factor for CKD (OR = 0.32, 95% CI 0.12-0.84, p = 0.02), but the association was not significant in the high risk of liver fibrosis group. In female patients, both moderate alcohol consumption and excessive alcohol consumption were not significantly associated with CKD in either the low-risk group or the high-risk group.Conclusion: Moderate alcohol consumption is associated with a lower prevalence of CKD in men with NAFLD.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Nonmalignant pleural effusion (NMPE) is common and remains a definite health care problem. Pleural effusion was supposed to be a risk factor for acute kidney injury (AKI). Incidence of AKI in NMPE patients and whether there is correlation between the size of effusions and AKI is unknown. OBJECTIVE To assess the incidence of AKI in NMPE inpatients and its association with effusion size. STUDY DESIGN AND METHOD We conducted a retrospective cohort study of inpatients admitted to the Chinese PLA General Hospital with pleural effusion from 2018-2021. All patients with pleural effusions confirmed by chest radiography (CT or X-ray) were included, excluding patients with diagnosis of malignancy, chronic dialysis, end-stage renal disease (ESRD), community-acquired AKI, hospital-acquired AKI before chest radiography, and fewer than two serum creatinine tests during hospitalization. Multivariate logistic regression and LASSO logistic regression models were used to identify risk factors associated with AKI. Subgroup analyses and interaction tests for effusion volume were performed adjusted for the variables selected by LASSO. Causal mediation analysis was used to estimate the mediating effect of heart failure, pneumonia, and eGFR < 60 ml/min/1.73m2 on AKI through effusion volume. RESULTS NMPE was present in 7.8% of internal medicine inpatients. Of the 3047 patients included, 360 (11.8%) developed AKI during hospitalization. After adjustment by covariates selected by LASSO, moderate and large effusions increased the risk of AKI compared with small effusions (moderate: OR 1.47, 95%CI 1.11-1.94 p = 0.006; large: OR 1.86, 95%CI 1.05-3.20 p = 0.028). No significant modification effect was observed among age, gender, diabetes, bilateral effusions, and eGFR. Volume of effusions mediated 6.8% (p = 0.005), 4.0% (p = 0.046) and 4.6% (p < 0.001) of the effect of heart failure, pneumonia and low eGFR on the development of AKI respectively. CONCLUSION The incidence of AKI is high among NMPE patients. Moderate and large effusion volume is independently associated with AKI compared to small size. The effusion size acts as a mediator in heart failure, pneumonia, and eGFR.

Abstract
PURPOSE To identify audiological and demographic variables that predict speech recognition abilities in patients with bilateral microtia who underwent Bonebridge (BB) implantation. METHODS Fifty patients with bilateral microtia and bilateral conductive hearing loss (CHL) who underwent BB implantation were included. Demographic data, preoperative hearing aid use experience, and audiological outcomes (including pure-tone hearing threshold, sound field hearing threshold [SFHT], and speech recognition ability) for each participant were obtained. The Chinese-Mandarin Speech Test Materials were used to test speech recognition ability. The word recognition score (WRS) of disyllabic words at 65 dB SPL signals was measured before and after BB implantation in quiet and noisy conditions. RESULTS The mean preoperative WRS under quiet and noisy conditions was 10.44 ± 12.73% and 5.90 ± 8.76%, which was significantly improved to 86.38 ± 9.03% and 80.70 ± 11.34%, respectively, following BB fitting. Multiple linear regression analysis revealed that lower preoperative SFHT suggested higher preoperative WRS under both quiet and noisy conditions. Higher age at implantation predicted higher preoperative WRS under quiet conditions. Furthermore, patients with more preoperative hearing aid experience and lower postoperative SFHT were more likely to have higher postoperative WRS under both quiet and noisy testing conditions. CONCLUSIONS This study represents the first attempt to identify predictors of preoperative and postoperative speech recognition abilities in patients with bilateral microtia with BB implantation. These findings emphasize that early hearing intervention before implantation surgery, combined with appropriate postoperative fitting, contributes to optimal benefits in terms of postoperative speech recognition ability.

Abstract
Intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) mobilizes circulating leukocytes that contribute to neuroinflammation and neural injury. However, little is known about the endogenous regulatory immune mechanisms to restrict neuroinflammation following ICH. We examined the role of group 2 innate lymphoid cells (ILC2) that are a specialized subset of innate immune modulators in a mouse model of ICH. We found accumulation of ILC2 in the brain following acute ICH and a concomitant increase of ILC2 within the peripheral lymph nodes. Depletion of ILC2 exacerbated neurodeficits and brain edema after ICH in male and female mice. This aggravated ICH injury was accompanied by augmented microglia activity and leukocyte infiltration. In contrast, expansion of ILC2 using IL-33 led to reduced ICH injury, microglia activity and leukocyte infiltration. Notably, elimination of microglia using a colony stimulating factor 1 receptor inhibitor diminished the exacerbation of ICH injury induced by depletion of ILC2. Brain-infiltrating ILC2 had upregulation of IL-13 after ICH. Results from in vitro assays revealed that ILC2 suppressed thrombin-induced inflammatory activity in microglia-like BV2 cells. Thus, our findings demonstrate that ILC2 suppress neuroinflammation and acute ICH injury.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Recent studies have found that lipid levels in patients with chronic hepatitis B (CHB) may change during antiviral therapy. OBJECTIVE To assess the effects of first-line nucleot(s)ide analogues (NAs) on lipid profiles in patients with CHB using network meta-analysis. METHODS Seven electronic databases (PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, and four Chinese databases) were searched for cohort studies on the effect of NA on lipids in patients with CHB up to August 1, 2023. The changes of serum total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) were taken as outcomes. The mean difference (MD) of continuous variables and 95% confidence intervals (CI) were calculated using RevMan 5.4 and Stata 16.0 software, and network meta-analysis was based on a frequentist framework. RESULTS A total of 4194 patients were included in the study, including patients with CHB treated with entecavir (ETV), tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF), and tenofovir alafenamide (TAF), as well as patients not receiving antiviral therapy [patients with inactive CHB who were not receiving antiviral therapy (referred as inactive CHB patients) and non-HBV-infected patients]. TDF reduced TC levels compared to the non-antiviral group (TDF vs. inactive CHB patients: MD = - 17.27, 95% CI (- 30.03, - 4.47); TDF vs. non-HBV-infected individuals: MD = - 17.10, 95% CI (- 20.13, - 14.07)). TC changes in the TAF and ETV groups were not statistically different from the non-antiviral group (TAF vs. inactive CHB patients: MD = - 2.69, 95% CI (- 14.42, 9.04); TAF vs. non-HBV-infected individuals: MD = - 2.52, 95% CI (- 8.47, 3.43); ETV vs. inactive CHB patients: MD = - 4.24, 95% CI (- 17.12, 8.64); ETV vs. non-HBV-infected individuals: MD = - 4.07, 95% CI (- 9.90, 1.75)). The ranking of the effects for lowering TC is as follows: CHB patients treated with nucleotide analogues [with varying efficacy: TDF (SUCRA = 99.9) > ETV (SUCRA = 59.3) > TAF (SUCRA = 43.6)] > inactive CHB patients (SUCRA = 27.3) > non-HBV-infected individuals (SUCRA = 19.9). As for secondary outcomes, among the three antiviral drugs, TDF had the most significant effect on lowering TG, LDL-C, and HDL-C, but none of the three drugs was statistically different from the non-antiviral group. Subgroup analysis showed that the lipid-lowering effect of TDF was more pronounced in the elderly (≥ 50 years). CONCLUSION TDF was effective in lipid reduction, particularly pronounced in the older population. TAF and ETV had a neutral effect to TC, TG, LDL-C, and HDL-C. Despite a relative increase in lipids observed in patients transitioning from TDF to TAF or ETV, these changes remained within acceptable limits.

Abstract
The formation of a single soybean protein isolate (SPI) gel is limited by the processing conditions, and has the disadvantages of poor gel property, and it is usually necessary to add other biomacromolecules to improve its property. In this study, we investigated the effects of polysaccharide concentration on gel properties and interaction mechanisms of Tremella fuciformis polysaccharide (TFP)-SPI complexes. It was found that (1) the rheological properties, texture properties, water-holding properties, and thermal stability of TFP-SPI composite gels were improved with the addition of TFP (0.25-2.0 %, w/v) in a concentration-dependent manner; (2) hydrogen bond, the electrostatic interaction, hydrophobic interaction, and disulfide bond in the gel system increased with the increase of TFP concentration; (3) the electrostatic and hydrophobic interactions played an important role in the formation of the TFP-SPI composite gel while hydrogen bond formation was the least contributor to the binary composite gel network. Overall, TFP is not only a critical health food but also a promising structural component for improving the gel properties of SPI.

Abstract
PURPOSE First-generation bone bridges (BBs) have demonstrated favorable safety and audiological benefits in patients with conductive hearing loss. However, studies on the effects of second-generation BBs are limited, especially among children. In this study, we aimed to explore the surgical and audiological effects of second-generation BBs in patients with bilateral congenital microtia. METHODS This single-center prospective study included nine Mandarin-speaking patients with bilateral microtia. All the patients underwent BCI Generation 602 (BCI602; MED-EL, Innsbruck, Austria) implant surgery between September 2021 and June 2023. Audiological and sound localization tests were performed under unaided and BB-aided conditions. RESULTS The transmastoid and retrosigmoid sinus approaches were implemented in three and six patients, respectively. No patient underwent preoperative planning, lifts were unnecessary, and no sigmoid sinus or dural compression occurred. The mean function gain at 0.5-4.0 kHz was 28.06 ± 4.55-dB HL. The word recognition scores improved significantly in quiet under the BB aided condition. Signal-to-noise ratio reduction by 10.56 ± 2.30 dB improved the speech reception threshold in noise. Patients fitted with a unilateral BB demonstrated inferior sound source localization after the initial activation. CONCLUSIONS Second-generation BBs are safe and effective for patients with bilateral congenital microtia and may be suitable for children with mastoid hypoplasia without preoperative three-dimensional reconstruction.

Abstract
In the face of diversified analytes, it is a great challenge and infeasible task to design and synthesize corresponding macrocyclic hosts to realize the ideal supramolecular sensing. Herein, we proposed a novel supramolecular sensing strategy, guest adaptative assay (GAA), in which analyte was quantitatively transformed under mild conditions to perfectly adapt to macrocyclic host. As a health-threatening "landmine" in cereals, aflatoxins were converted by the aid of alkali hydrolysis to satisfactorily obtain aflatoxins transformants in ionic state, resulting in sensitive response by the guanidinocalix[5]arene•fluorescein reporter pair. Surprisingly, the established strategy not only exhibited effective practicality in screening out high-risk cereals contaminated with aflatoxins, but also relieved the laborious task of macrocycle design and screening in supramolecular sensing.

Abstract
Chicken coccidiosis, caused by Eimeria protozoa, affects poultry farming. Toll-like receptors (TLRs) and host defence peptides (HDPs) help host innate immune responses to eliminate invading pathogens, but their roles in Eimeria tenella infection remain poorly understood. Herein, 14-day-old chickens were treated orally with 50,000 E. tenella oocysts and the cecum was dissected at different timepoints. mRNA expression of 10 chicken TLRs (chTLRs) and five HDPs was measured by quantitative real-time PCR. chTLR7 and chTLR15 were upregulated significantly at 3 h post-infection while other chTLRs were downregulated (p < .05). chTLR1a, chTLR1b, chTLR2b and chTLR4 peaked at 36 h post-infection, chTLR3, chTLR5 and chTLR15 peaked at 72 h post-infection and chTLR21 expression was highest among chTLRs, peaking at 48 h post-infection (p < 0.05). For HDPs, cathelicidin (CATH) 1 to 3 and B1 peaked at 48 h post-infection, liver-expressed antimicrobial peptide 2 peaked at 96 h post-infection, and CATH 2 expression was highest among HDPs. CATH2 and CATH3 were markedly upregulated at 3 h post-infection (p < .05). The results provide insight into innate immune molecules during E. tenella infection in chicken, and indicate that innate immune responses may mediate resistance to chicken coccidiosis.

Abstract
ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE Yiguan Jian (YGJ) is a classical prescription, which employs 6 kinds of medicinal herbs including Rehmanniae Radix, Lycii Fructus, Angelicae sinensis Radix, Glehniae Radix, Ophiopogonis Radix, and Toosendan Fructus. YGJ decoction is originally prescribed in Qing Dynasty (1636 CE ∼ 1912 CE) in China, and is commonly used to treat liver diseases. There remain abundant literature investigating YGJ decoction from multiple aspects, but few reviews summarized the research and gave a precise definition, which impedes further applications and commercialization of YGJ decoction. AIM OF THE REVIEW The aim of this review is to provide comprehensive descriptions of YGJ decoction, tackling with issues in the research and development of YGJ decoction. MATERIALS AND METHODS The literature and clinical reports were obtained from the databases including Web of Science, Science Direct, PubMed, Google Scholar, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, China Science Periodical Database, China Science and Technology Journal Database, and SinoMed since 2000. The phytochemical characteristics, quality control, pharmaceutical forms, clinical position, pharmacological effects, and toxic events of YGJ decoction were included for analysis. RESULT This review firstly summarized the progress of the chemical existences of YGJ decoction and discussed the advanced methods in monitoring quality of YGJ decoction and its herbal ingredients, particularly in the form of granules. Whilst this review aims to identify the pharmacological actions and clinical impacts of YGJ decoction, the medicinal materials that could provide these benefits were observed in the remaining herbs to exert the anti-fibrotic effects, anti-inflammatory activities, anti-cancer, and anti-diabetic effects, and to universally treat liver and gastric diseases. This review provided supplementary descriptions on the safety issues, especially in Glehniae Radix and Toosendan Fructus, to define the alterations between hepatoprotective activities and unclear toxics in YGJ decoction application. CONCLUSIONS Our comprehensively organized review discussed the chemical characteristics and the research in altering or identifying these essences. The effects of YGJ decoction on the non-clinical and clinical tests exert the good management of sophisticated diseases. In this review, current issues are discussed to inform and inspire subsequent research of YGJ decoction and other classical prescriptions.

Abstract
The vaginal microbiota plays a crucial role in female reproductive health and is considered a biomarker for predicting disease outcomes and personalized testing. However, its relationship with human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and cervical cancer is not yet clear. Therefore, this article provides a review of the association between the vaginal microbiota, HPV infection, and cervical cancer. We discuss the composition of the vaginal microbiota, its dysbiosis, and its relationship with HPV infection, as well as potential mechanisms in the development of cervical cancer. In addition, we assess the feasibility of treatment strategies such as probiotics and vaginal microbiota transplantation to modulate the vaginal microbiota for the prevention and treatment of diseases related to HPV infection and cervical cancer. In the future, extensive replication studies are still needed to gain a deeper understanding of the complex relationship between the vaginal microbiota, HPV infection, and cervical cancer, and to clarify the role of the vaginal microbiota as a potential biomarker for predicting disease outcomes, thus providing a theoretical basis for personalized testing.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The association between Metabolic Syndrome (MetS), its components, and the risk of osteoarthritis (OA) has been a topic of conflicting evidence in different studies. The aim of this present study is to investigate the association between MetS, its components, and the risk of OA using data from the UK Biobank. METHODS A prospective cohort study was conducted in the UK Biobank to assess the risk of osteoarthritis (OA) related to MetS. MetS was defined according to the criteria set by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF). Additionally, lifestyle factors, medications, and the inflammatory marker C-reactive protein (CRP) were included in the model. Cox proportional hazards regression was used to calculate hazard ratios (HR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI). The cumulative risk of OA was analyzed using Kaplan-Meier curves and log-rank tests. To explore potential nonlinear associations between MetS components and OA risk, a restricted cubic splines (RCS) model was employed. In addition, the polygenic risk score (PRS) of OA was calculated to characterize individual genetic risk. RESULTS A total of 45,581 cases of OA were identified among 370,311 participants, with a median follow-up time of 12.48 years. The study found that individuals with MetS had a 15% higher risk of developing OA (HR = 1.15, 95%CI:1.12-1.19). Additionally, central obesity was associated with a 58% increased risk of OA (HR = 1.58, 95%CI:1.5-1.66), while hyperglycemia was linked to a 13% higher risk (HR = 1.13, 95%CI:1.1-1.15). Dyslipidemia, specifically in triglycerides (HR = 1.07, 95%CI:1.05-1.09) and high-density lipoprotein (HR = 1.05, 95%CI:1.02-1.07), was also found to be slightly associated with OA risk. When stratified by PRS, those in the high PRS group had a significantly higher risk of OA compared to those with a low PRS, whereas no interaction was found between MetS and PRS on OA risks. Furthermore, the presence of MetS significantly increased the risk of OA by up to 35% in individuals with elevated CRP levels (HR = 1.35, 95% CI:1.3-1.4). CONCLUSION MetS and its components have been found to be associated with an increased risk of OA, particularly in individuals with elevated levels of CRP. These findings highlight the significance of managing MetS as a preventive and intervention measure for OA.

Abstract
Acute genital ulcers (AGU) have been associated with various pathogens, such as Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) and cytomegalovirus (CMV). However, cases of AGU associated with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) are rare, and this disease significantly impairs human quality of life. In this case, we report a 37-year-old woman who presented with a five-day history of a painful genital ulcer and fever. A month earlier, she had experienced a COVID-19 infection that resolved without medical therapy. Physical examination revealed that multiple asymmetric ulcers presented on labia minora covered with whitish exudates. The patient, without any high-risk sexual behavior, or a personal or family history of autoimmune disorders or inflammatory bowel disease, was diagnosed with COVID-19-related AGU after ruling out other infectious and immune diseases. Following a two-week treatment of oral prednisone, her vulvar edema, ulcers, and fever improved significantly. This case suggests that AGU may be triggered by a COVID-19 infection.

Abstract
Native starches are commonly modified for desired properties because of their limited applications. Among various modifications, microwave irradiation has been gaining strong interests and becoming a focal area to transform starch during the last few years. Such interests reside in microwave irradiation's high heating rates, lesser extent of loss in nutritional qualities, and so on when compared with other approaches. This review summaries the effects of microwave field on the structural (e.g. morphology characteristic, lamellae structure, crystallinity, and molecular structure) and physicochemical properties (e.g. pasting properties and gelatinization) of naturally existing starch derivatives. Different microwave-assisted chemical derivatizations can directly or indirectly affect starch structure from the macroscopic to the microscopic level, thereby resulting in various functionalities. Moreover, conventional starch modification processes can be optimized by applying microwave irradiation to obtain modified starch with high degree of substitution and low viscosity. The future research will help to better understand the structural changes of microwave-assisted starch chemical derivatization and thereby creating a wide range of functionalities.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the predictive factors of long-term hearing threshold and temporal bone development in children with congenital microtia (CM). METHODS 74 patients (92 ears) with CM enrolled, which all had auditory brainstem response (ABR) results during infancy or toddlerhood, pure tone audiometry (PTA) and high-resolution computed tomography (HRCT) results during childhood or adolescence, and had not undergone any surgery. We compared the relationship between ABR, auditory steady-state response (ASSR), the affected side, auricular morphology, presence of external auditory canal stenosis or atresia, PTA average, mastoid pneumatization, Jarhsdoerfer scores, and wether cholesteatoma exists. RESULTS The average age of ABR in 92 ears was 2.72 ± 3.52 years old, PTA was 7.26 ± 2.51 and HRCT was 6.91 ± 2.76 years old. ABR-AC was related to PTA average, mastoid pneumatization, Jarhsdoerfer scores, and wether cholesteatoma exists in CM. While ABR-ABG was related to all of these factors except Jarhsdoerfer score, and ABR-BC had no relationship with any of them. ASSR only showed correlation with frequencies of 1, 2 kHz and was related to Jarhsdoerfer score, with no other correlations observed. The impaired ear side showed no relevance. However, auricular morphology was related to all of these factors except wether cholesteatoma exist. External auditory canal stenosis or atresia was related to PTA average, but unrelated to mastoid pneumatization. CONCLUSION The ABR examination in the infant stage plays a crucial role in predicting the long-term hearing and temporal bone development in patients with CM.

Abstract
When the skin is damaged, accelerating the repair of skin trauma and promoting the recovery of tissue function are crucial considerations in clinical treatment. Previously, we isolated and identified an active peptide (livisin) from the skin secretion of the frog Odorrana livida. Livisin exhibited strong protease inhibitory activity, water solubility, and stability, yet its wound-healing properties have not yet been studied. In this study, we assessed the impact of livisin on wound healing and investigated the underlying mechanism contributing to its effect. Our findings revealed livisin effectively stimulated the migration of keratinocytes, with the underlying mechanisms involved the activation of CaSR as a peptide calcium mimetic. This activation resulted in the stimulation of the CaSR/E-cadherin/EGFR/ERK signaling pathways. Moreover, the therapeutic effects of livisin were partially reduced by blocking the CaSR/E-cadherin/EGFR/ERK signaling pathway. The interaction between livisin and CaSR was further investigated by molecular docking. Additionally, studies using a mouse full-thickness wound model demonstrated livisin could accelerate skin wound healing by promoting re-epithelialization and collagen deposition. In conclusion, our study provides experimental evidence supporting the use of livisin in skin wound healing, highlighting its potential as an effective therapeutic option.

Abstract
IMPORTANCE The intracellular pathogen Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium (S. Typhimurium) comes across a wide variety of stresses from entry to dissemination, such as reactive oxygen species. To adapt itself to oxidative stress, Salmonella must adopt various and complex strategies. In this study, we revealed that DNA adenine methyltransferase was essential for S. Typhimurium to survive in hydrogen peroxide. We then screened out oxidative stress-responsive genes that were potentially regulated by DNA methylation in S. Typhimurium. Our results show that the DNA methylome is highly stable throughout the genome, and the coupled change of m6A GATC with gene expression is identified in only a few positions, which suggests the complexity of the DNA methylation and gene expression regulation networks. The results may shed light on our understanding of m6A-mediated gene expression regulation in bacteria.

Abstract
Background: Recent studies have shown that bile acids are essential in irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) pathology, and cholecystectomy has direct effects on bile acid metabolism. However, whether cholecystectomy increases the risk of IBS remains unclear. We aimed to investigate the association between cholecystectomy and IBS risk in the UK Biobank (UKB). Methods: This study is a prospective analysis of 413,472 participants who were free of IBS, inflammatory bowel disease, cancer, or common benign digestive tract diseases. We identified incidents of IBS through self-reporting or links to primary healthcare and hospitalization data. We evaluated hazard ratios (HRs) adjusted for sociodemographic characteristics, health behaviours, comorbidities, and medications. Results: During a median follow-up period of 12.7 years, we observed 15,503 new cases of IBS. Participants with a history of cholecystectomy had a 46% higher risk of IBS than those without (HR = 1.46, 95% CI: 1.32-1.60), and further subtype analysis showed that the risk of IBS with diarrhoea was significantly higher than the risk of IBS without diarrhoea (HR = 1.71, 95% CI: 1.30-2.25 vs. HR = 1.42, 95% CI: 1.28-1.58). The overall covariate-adjusted HRs for IBS were similar between the group with both cholecystectomy and gallstones (HR = 1.45, 95% CI: 1.32-1.58) and the group with cholecystectomy without gallstones (HR = 1.50, 95% CI: 1.36-1.67) when the group without both cholecystectomy and gallstones was used as a reference. The overall covariate-adjusted HR was not significantly different in the group without cholecystectomy with gallstones (HR = 1.18, 95% CI: 0.95-1.47). The positive association of cholecystectomy with IBS risk did not change when stratifying the data based on age, sex, BMI, smoking, alcohol consumption, healthy diet, quality sleep, physical activity, type 2 diabetes, hypertension, hyperlipidaemia, mental illness, NSAID intake, or acid inhibitor intake. Sensitivity analyses, including propensity score matching analysis and lagging the exposure for two or four years, indicated that the effects were robust. Conclusion: Cholecystectomy was associated with a higher risk of IBS, especially IBS with diarrhoea. Additional prospective randomized controlled and experimental studies are warranted to further validate the association and to explore the relevant biological mechanisms.

Abstract
Abnormal post-translational modification of microtubule-associated protein Tau (MAPT) is a prominent pathological feature in Alzheimer's disease (AD). Previous research has focused on designing small molecules to target Tau modification, aiming to restore microtubule stability and regulate Tau levels in vivo. However, progress has been hindered, and no effective Tau-targeted drugs have been successfully marketed, which urgently requires more strategies. Heat shock proteins (HSPs), especially Hsp90 and Hsp70, have been found to play a crucial role in Tau maturation and degradation. This review explores innovative approaches using small molecules that interact with the chaperone system to regulate Tau levels. We provide a comprehensive overview of the mechanisms involving HSPs and their co-chaperones in the Tau regulation cycle. Additionally, we analyze small molecules targeting these chaperone systems to modulate Tau function. By understanding the characteristics of the molecular chaperone system and its specific impact on Tau, we aim to provide a perspective that seeks to regulate Tau levels through the manipulation of the molecular chaperone system and ultimately develop effective treatments for AD.

Abstract
Autonomous micromotors demonstrate remarkable advancements in biomedical applications. A noteworthy example is streamlined motors, which display enhanced movement efficiency with low fluid-resistance. However, existing streamlined motors, primarily constructed from inorganic materials, present challenges due to their complex fabrication procedures and lack of a soft interface for interaction with biological systems. Herein, a novel design of biodegradable streamlined alginate hydrogel micromotors with a teardrop shape by microfluidics is introduced. The platform enables the high-throughput fabrication of monodisperse micromotors with varied dimensions. By incorporating Pt-coated Fe3 O4 nanoparticles, micromotors are equipped with dual capabilities of catalytic propulsion and accurate magnetic guidance. Through precisely tuning the localization regions of catalysts within the micromotors, the streamlined hydrogel micromotors not only exhibit enhanced propelling efficiency, but also accomplish distinct motion patterns of run and tumble. The design provides insights for developing advanced micromotors capable of executing intricate tasks across diverse application scenarios.

Abstract
Ginsenoside Rg1 (GRg1), a key bioactive component of medicinal herbs, has shown beneficial effects on non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and numerous other conditions. Nevertheless, the specific targets that are actively involved and the potential mechanisms underlying NAFLD treatment remain unclear. This study aimed to elucidate the therapeutic effects and mechanism of GRg1 in alleviating NAFLD using a combined approach of network pharmacology and molecular biology validation. The analysis yielded 294 targets for GRg1 and 1293 associated with NAFLD, resulting in 89 overlapping targets. Through protein-protein interactions (PPI) network topology analysis, 10 key targets were identified. Upon evaluating the Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway and Gene Ontology (GO) analysis, GRg1 may exert therapeutic effects on NAFLD by negatively regulating the apoptotic process, insulin and endocrine resistance, the AGE-RAGE signaling pathway in diabetic complications, and the Estrogen, PI3K/Akt, and MAPK pathways. The three differential gene targets for Akt1, EGFR, and IGF1 were identified through the compound-target network in conjunction with the aforementioned methods. The molecular docking and molecular dynamics (MD) simulations showed that AKT1 and EGFR had a strong binding affinity with GRg1. Overall, our findings point to a novel therapeutic strategy involving NAFLD, with further in vivo and in vitro studies promising to deepen our comprehension and validate its potential advantages.Communicated by Ramaswamy H. OBJECTIVES Shifting macrophages towards an anti-inflammatory state is key in treating osteoarthritis (OA) by reducing inflammation and tissue damage. However, the underlying mechanisms guiding this shift remain largely undefined. STUB1, an E3 ubiquitin ligase, known for its regulatory role in macrophage polarization. This study aims to explore the function and underlying action mechanisms of STUB1 in OA. METHODS An in vivo OA model was established in rats. Hematoxylin-Eosin and safranin O-fast green staining were performed to reveal the hispathological injuries in knee-joint tissues. Immunohistochemistry and flow cytometry were performed to detect the distribution of M1 and M2 macrophages. The inflammatory response (TNF-α and IL-6 levels) was evaluated by ELISA. In vitro, the interaction between STUB1 and NFR2 was determined by CO-IP and pull-down assays. After treated with LPS (an in vitro model of OA), the viability and apoptosis of chondrocytes were measured by CCK-8 and flow cytometry, respectively. RESULTS Silencing STUB1 alleviated OA in rats, as indicated by reduced subchondral bone thickness, knee synovitis score, histopathological damages, and inflammatory response. STUB1 silencing also decreased M1 macrophages and increased M2 macrophages in both in vivo and in vitro settings. NRF2 was identified as a target of STUB1, with STUB1 mediating its ubiquitination. Silencing NRF2 reversed the effects of STUB1 silencing on inducing M2 macrophage polarization. Furthermore, silencing STUB1 upregulated NRF2 expression in LPS-treated chondrocytes, promoting cell viability and inhibiting apoptosis. CONCLUSION Silencing STUB1 induces M2 macrophage polarization by inhibiting NRF2 ubiquitination, thereby contributing to the mitigation of OA.

Abstract
BACKGROUND It is important to extend the indication of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 vaccine to children to improve the vaccine intake rate and reduce infection in this population. METHODS In 2 phase 1 and phase 2 randomized, double-blind and placebo-controlled trials, 84 and 480 Chinese healthy children 3 to 17 years old were enrolled, respectively, and randomized in 3:1 ratio to receive 2 doses of a severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 inactivated vaccine, KCONVAC or placebo. The 2 doses were given 28 days apart. Adverse events (AEs) were recorded through Day 28 after each dosing. Live virus neutralizing antibody and receptor binding domain antibody (RBD-IgG) were tested before vaccination and after the second dose. RESULTS Two doses of the vaccine, KCONVAC, elicited geometric mean titers of 142-150 for neutralizing antibody and 4154-4253 for RBD-IgG 28 days after the second dose. Seroconversion rates were 100% after 2 doses for both antibodies in both trials. The predominant AEs were injection-site pain, cough and fever. Most AEs were grade 1 or 2 in intensity. Five participants reported 6 vaccination-unrelated serious AEs in the phase 2 trial. CONCLUSIONS Two doses of this study vaccine, KCONVAC, were well tolerated and immunogenic in children 3 to 17 years of age.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIMS The long-term impact of maternal smoking during pregnancy (MSDP) on adult offspring's risk of Crohn's disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC) remains uncertain. Our study aims to investigate the individual and combined effects of early life exposure (MSDP), offspring personal behavior (smoking), and genetic risk on the development of CD and UC in adult offspring. METHODS We conducted a prospective cohort study using UK Biobank data, including 334,083 participants recruited between 2006-2010, with follow-up until December 31, 2021. Multivariable Cox regression models were used to evaluate the associations of genetic factors, maternal and personal smoking, and their combination with CD and UC. RESULTS Participants exposed to MSDP had an 18% increased risk of CD compared to those without MSDP (hazard ratio (HR) = 1.18, 95% confidence interval (CI) = 1.01-1.39). However, no significant association was found between MSDP and the UC risk (HR = 1.03, 95%CI = 0.92-1.16). Personal smoking increased the risk of CD and UC, and had a numerically amplified effect with MSDP. Participants with high genetic risk and MSDP had a 2.01-fold (95%CI = 1.53-2.65) and a 2.45-fold (95%CI = 2.00-2.99) increased risk of CD and UC, respectively, compared to participants without MSDP and with low genetic risk. CONCLUSIONS Our prospective cohort study provides evidence that MSDP increases the risk of CD in adult offspring, whereas no evidence supports their causal association. Additionally, smoking and genetic susceptibility had a numerically amplified effect with MSDP on CD and UC, but the interaction lacked statistical significance.

Abstract
The association between time-restricted eating (TRE) and the risk of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is less studied. Moreover, whether the association is independent of physical exercise or diet quality or quantity is uncertain. In this nationwide cross-sectional study of 3813 participants, the timing of food intakes was recorded by 24-h recalls; NAFLD was defined through vibration-controlled transient elastography in the absence of other causes of chronic liver disease. OR and 95 % CI were estimated using logistic regression. Participants with daily eating window of ≤ 8 h had lower odds of NAFLD (OR = 0·70, 95 % CI: 0·52, 0·93), compared with those with ≥ 10 h window. Early (05.00-15.00) and late TRE (11.00-21.00) showed inverse associations with NAFLD prevalence without statistical heterogeneity (Pheterogeneity = 0·649) with OR of 0·73 (95 % CI: 0·36, 1·47) and 0·61 (95 % CI: 0·44, 0·84), respectively. Such inverse association seemed stronger in participants with lower energy intake (OR = 0·58, 95 % CI: 0·38, 0·89, Pinteraction = 0·020). There are no statistical differences in the TRE-NAFLD associations according to physical activity (Pinteraction = 0·390) or diet quality (Pinteraction = 0·110). TRE might be associated with lower likelihood of NAFLD. Such inverse association is independent of physical activity and diet quality and appears stronger in individuals consuming lower energy. Given the potential misclassification of TRE based on one- or two-day recall in the analysis, epidemiological studies with validated methods for measuring the habitual timing of dietary intake are warranted.

Abstract
Cross-component chroma prediction plays an important role in improving coding efficiency for H.266/VVC. We use the differences between reference samples and the predicted sample to design an attention model for chroma prediction, namely luma difference-based chroma prediction (LDCP). Specifically, the luma differences (LDs) between reference samples and the predicted sample are employed as the input of the attention model, which is designed as a softmax function to map LDs to chroma weights nonlinearly. Finally, a weighted chroma prediction is conducted based on the weights and chroma reference samples. To provide adaptive weights, the model parameter of the softmax function can be determined based on the template (T-LDCP) or offline learning (L-LDCP), respectively. Experimental results show that the T-LDCP achieves BD-rate reductions of 0.34%, 2.02%, and 2.34% for the Y, Cb, and Cr components, and the L-LDCP brings 0.32%, 2.06%, and 2.21% BD-rate savings for Y, Cb, and Cr components, respectively. The L-LDCP introduces slight encoding and decoding time increments, i.e., 2% and 1%, when integrated into the latest VVC test model version 18.0. Besides, the LDCP can be implemented by a pixel-level parallelization which is hardware-friendly.

Abstract
Parkinson's disease (PD) is a common neurodegenerative disorder with motor symptoms, which is caused by the progressive death of dopaminergic (DA) neurons in the substantia nigra pars compacta (SNpc). Accumulating evidence shows that endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress occurring in the SNpc DA neurons is an early event in the development of PD. ER stress triggers the activation of unfolded protein response (UPR) to reduce stress and restore ER function. However, excessive and continuous ER stress and UPR exacerbate the risk of DA neuron death through crosstalk with other PD events. Thus, ER stress is considered a promising therapeutic target for the treatment of PD. Various strategies targeting ER stress through the modulation of UPR signaling, the increase of ER's protein folding ability, and the enhancement of protein degradation are developed to alleviate neuronal death in PD models. In this review, we summarize the pathological role of ER stress in PD and update the strategies targeting ER stress to improve ER protein homeostasis and PD-related events.

Abstract
Accurate assessment of grassland soil erosion before and after grazing exclusion and revealing its driving mechanism are the basis of grassland risk management. In this study, the long-term soil erosion in Ningxia grassland was simulated by integrating and calibrating the transport limited sediment delivery (TLSD) function with the revised universal soil loss equation (RUSLE) model. The differential mechanisms of soil loss were explored using the GeoDetector method, and the relative effects of precipitation changes (PC) and human activities (HA) on grassland soil erosion were investigated using double mass curves. The measured sediment discharges from six hydrological stations verified that the RUSLE-TLSD model could reliably simulate water erosion in Ningxia. From 1988 to 2018, the water erosion rate of grassland in Ningxia ranged from 74.98 to 14.98 t⋅ha-1⋅a-1, showing an overall downward trend. July to September is the period with the highest of water erosion. The slope is the dominant factor influencing the spatial distribution of water erosion. After grazing exclusion, the net water erosion rate in Ningxia grassland and sub-regions decreased significantly. The double mass curves results show that human activities were the main driver of net erosion reduction. The focus of water erosion control in Ningxia is to control soil erosion in different terrains and protect grassland with slopes greater than 10°.

Abstract
Adjusting the micro-environment of highly dispersive metals on carbon supports has been proved to be effective for achieving enhanced electrocatalysis performance. Herein, we delicately design a phosphorus-doped binary NiFe-nitrogen-carbon material (denoted as P-NiFe-NC), taking advantage of the coupling reaction between phenylphosphonamide (P dopant) and formamide (the carbon and nitrogen sources). The XPS N 1s fine scan reveals the strong interplay of N and P by the positively shifted binding energy of pyridinic N species after P incorporation, and the chemical state of Fe species is influenced accordingly. In addition, the P doping can enlarge the specific surface area and increase the meso/macroporosity of NiFe-NC, thus contributing to the enhancement of mass transfer inside the pores. The P-NiFe-NC sample exhibits favorable bifunctional oxygen electrocatalysis performance, rendering an ORR half-wave potential of 0.85 V and an OER potential of 1.69 V@10.0 mA cm-2, superior to those of P-free NiFe-NC. Assembled into Zn-air batteries, P-NiFe-NC delivers a high specific power of 161.36 mW cm-2 and stable charge/discharge for over 100 h (corresponding to 300 cycles).

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The current study aimed to investigate the correlation between HPV16/18 infection and the microecological characteristics of the female reproductive tract and cervical lesions and to explore the risk factors associated with cervical precancerous lesions (CIN) and cervical cancer (CC). METHODS A total of 326 women were selected for HPV screening, with 121 testing negative for HPV, 113 infected with HPV16/18, and 92 infected with other types of HPV. Microecological characteristics of the vaginal flora in all subjects were analyzed. Liquid-based thin layer cell (TCT) tests, genitourinary tract infection pathogen (STDs) assessments, HPV typing, and colposcopic pathological biopsies of exfoliated cervical cells were conducted. RESULTS Among patients with HPV infection, there was a higher detection rate of abnormal microecological indicators such as bacterial vaginosis (BV) and vaginal cleanliness. Additionally, an increased proportion of vaginal microbiota (VM) imbalance was observed. Ureaplasma urealyticum (Uu) infection in the reproductive tract was closely associated with HPV 16/18 infection and showed co-infection. Moreover, patients with BV infection and high expression of HPV mRNA were at a higher risk of persistent HPV16/18 positive infection. BV infection, Uu infection, and HPV16/18 positive infection were identified as risk factors for CIN and CC. Furthermore, BV and Uu infections promoted the development of CIN/CC in patients infected with HPV16/18. CONCLUSIONS Changes in vaginal microecology are strongly linked to HPV16/18 infection. BV infection, Uu infection, HPV viral load, and HPV16/18 infection are risk factors for CIN/CC. Timely treatment of BV and Uu infections, restoration of a normal vaginal microecological environment, and improvement of HPV16/18 outcomes can delay the occurrence and progression of CIN/CC.

Abstract
Progressive death of dopaminergic (DA) neurons is the main cause of Parkinson's disease (PD). The discovery of drug candidates to prevent DA neuronal death is required to address the pathological aspects and alter the process of PD. Azoramide is a new small molecule compound targeting ER stress, which was originally developed for the treatment of diabetes. In this study, pre-treatment with Azoramide was found to suppress mitochondria-targeting neurotoxin MPP+-induced DA neuronal death and locomotor defects in zebrafish larvae. Further study showed that pre-treatment with Azoramide significantly attenuated MPP+-induced SH-SY5Y cell death by reducing aberrant changes in nuclear morphology, mitochondrial membrane potential, intracellular reactive oxygen species, and apoptotic biomarkers. The mechanistic study revealed that Azoramide was able to up-regulate the expression of ER chaperone BiP and thereby prevented MPP+-induced BiP decrease. Furthermore, pre-treatment with Azoramide failed to suppress MPP+-induced cytotoxicity in the presence of the BiP inhibitor HA15. Taken together, these results suggested that Azoramide is a potential neuroprotectant with pro-survival effects against MPP+-induced cell death through up-regulating BiP expression.

Abstract
The objective of this research was to investigate whether or if there is a connection between genes associated with pyroptosis and novel approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of NASH. The mRNA expression patterns of the gene expression dataset GSE135251 integrated (GEO) database were analyzed, and a total of 60 genes related to scorch death were extracted and included in the PubMed database. Methods from the field of bioinformatics were utilized to investigate the degrees to which differentially expressed genes and pyroptosis-related genes differed between NASH patients and healthy controls. As a result of this, the Centre for Genetic Research has now come around to accepting enrichment and PPI interaction analyses. GSE89632 and NASH models were evaluated, trained, qualified, and validated by 18 of the links between the expression of hub genes. PLCG1 expression raised NASH in the progress of the disease. PLCG1 expression levels were then validated by Western Blot and qRT-PCR in FFA-induced HepG2 cells and mouse liver tissues. An analysis of mRNA expression of cleaved-caspase 3, GSDMD, and GSDME in NASH models. In addition, the PLCG1based diagnostic model successfully discriminated NASH from normal samples. Collectively, our results imply that PLCG1 is significantly associated with NASH and may be a biomarker for pyroptosis-related disease.

Abstract
Acetylation is a global post-translational modification that regulates various cellular processes. Bacterial acetylomic studies have revealed extensive acetylation of ribosomal proteins. However, the role of acetylation in regulating ribosome function remains poorly understood. In this study, we systematically profiled ribosomal protein acetylation and identified a total of 289 acetylated lysine residues in 52 ribosomal proteins (r-proteins) from Salmonella Typhimurium. The majority of acetylated lysine residues of r-proteins were found to be regulated by both acetyltransferase Pat and metabolic intermediate acetyl phosphate. Our results show that acetylation plays a critical role in the assembly of the mature 70S ribosome complex by modulating r-proteins binding to rRNA. Moreover, appropriate acetylation is important for the interactions between elongation factors and polysomes, as well as regulating ribosome translation efficiency and fidelity. Dysregulation of acetylation could alter bacterial sensitivity to ribosome-targeting antibiotics. Collectively, our data suggest that the acetylation homeostasis of ribosomes is crucial for their assembly and function. Furthermore, this mechanism may represent a universal response to environmental signals across different cell types.

Abstract
White matter of the human brain is influenced by common genetic variations and shaped by neural activity-dependent experiences. Variations in microstructure of cerebral white matter across individuals and even across fiber tracts might underlie differences in cognitive capacity and vulnerabilities to mental disorders. The frontoparietal and cingulo-opercular networks of the brain constitute the central system supporting cognitive functions, and functional connectivity of these networks has been used to distinguish individuals known as "functional fingerprinting." The frontal aslant tract (FAT) that passes through the two networks has been implicated in executive functions. However, whether FAT can be used as a "structural fingerprint" to distinguish individuals and predict an individual's cognitive function and dysfunction is unknown. Here we investigated the fingerprinting property of FAT microstructural profiles using three independent diffusion MRI datasets with repeated scans on human participants including both females and males. We found that diffusion and geometric profiles of FAT can be used to distinguish individuals with a high accuracy. Next, we demonstrated that fractional anisotropy in different FAT segments predicted distinct cognitive functions, including working memory, inhibitory control, and relational reasoning. Finally, we assessed the contribution of altered FAT microstructural profiles to cognitive dysfunction in unmedicated patients with obsessive-compulsive disorders. We found that the altered microstructure in FAT was associated with the severity of obsessive-compulsive symptoms. Collectively, our findings suggest that the microstructural profiles of FAT can identify individuals with a high accuracy and may serve as an imaging marker for predicting an individual's cognitive capacity and disease severity.SIGNIFICANCE STATEMENT The frontoparietal network and cingulo-opercular network of the brain constitute a dual-network architecture for human cognitive functions, and functional connectivity of these two networks can be used as a "functional fingerprint" to distinguish individuals. However, the structural underpinnings of these networks subserving individual heterogeneities in their functional connectivity and cognitive ability remain unknown. We show here that the frontal aslant tract (FAT) that passes through the two networks distinguishes individuals with a high accuracy. Further, we demonstrate that the diffusion profiles of FAT predict distinct cognitive functions in healthy subjects and are associated with the clinical symptoms in patients with obsessive-compulsive disorders. Our findings suggest that the FAT may serve as a unique structural fingerprint underlying individual cognitive capability.

Abstract
Objective: To explore the safety and reliability of retrosigmoid approach BONEBRIDGE implantation in patients with auricle reconstruction using skin expansion flap. Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 43 congenital aural atresia cases (43 ears) who underwent BONEBRIDGE implantation from September 2019 to January 2023 in Beijing Tongren Hospital. 30 males and 13 females were included in this work. The implantation age was 9-36 years old (median age=10 y/o). All cases underwent auricle reconstruction surgery using the posterior ear flap expansion method, with 36 cases using the single expanded postauricular flap method and 7 cases using two-flap method. BONEBRIDGE implant surgery was performed during the third stage of auricle reconstruction or after all stages. The hearing improvements were evaluated by comparing the changes in pure tone hearing threshold and speech recognition rate of patients before and after BONEBRIDGE implantation. Routine follow-up was conducted to observe the hearing results and complications. SPSS 14.0 software was applied for data statistical analysis. Results: All 43 patients healed well and had no surgical complications when discharge. The average bone conduction hearing threshold after surgery was (8.2±6.6) dBHL, and there was no statistically significant difference compared to the preoperative [(8.1±5.7) dBHL] (P=0.95). After surgery, the threshold of hearing assistance with power on was significantly lower than that without hearing assistance [(32.8±4.6) dBHL vs (60.5±5.5) dBHL], and the difference was statistically significant (P<0.001). The speech recognition rate of monosyllable words, disyllabic words and short sentences in quiet environment increased to 72%, 84%, and 98% respectively. The differences were statistically significant (P<0.001). The speech recognition rate of monosyllabic words, disyllabic words, and short sentences in noise environment was significantly increased by 70%, 80%, and 92% respectively (P<0.001). After a follow-up of 4 to 47 months (median=24 months), the hearing results were stable and the aesthetic outcomes were satisfying. One patient had delayed hematoma around coil of the implant. After aspiration and compressed dressing for one week, hematoma was not recurrent. Conclusion: For patients after auricle reconstruction using expanded postauricular flap, the preference of retrosigmoid approach is a good choice in terms of safety and reliability of operation, as well as aesthetic appearance.

Abstract
Microglia are first responders to acute brain insults and initiate neuroinflammation to drive secondary tissue injury. Yet the key molecular switches in control of the inflammatory activity of microglia remain poorly understood. Intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) is a devastating stroke subtype whereby a hematoma is formed within the brain parenchyma and associated with high mortality. Using a mouse model of ICH, we found upregulation of CD22 that predominantly occurred in microglia. Antibody blockade of CD22 led to a reduction in neurological deficits, brain lesion and hematoma volume. This was accompanied by reduced inflammatory activity, increased expression of alternative activation markers (CD206 and IL-10) and enhanced phagocytosis activity in microglia after ICH. CD22 blockade also led to an increase of phosphorylated SYK and AKT after ICH. Notably, the benefits of CD22 blockade were ablated in ICH mice subjected to microglial depletion with a colony-stimulating factor 1 receptor inhibitor PLX5622. Additionally, the protective effects of CD22 blockade was diminished in ICH mice receiving a SYK inhibitor R406. Together, our findings highlight CD22 as a key molecular switch to control the detrimental effects of microglia after acute brain injury, and provide a novel strategy to improve the outcome of ICH injury.

Abstract
Introduction Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) represent the leading cause of mortality and disability worldwide. Robust evidence has demonstrated that modifiable lifestyle factors such as unhealthy diet, smoking, alcohol consumption and physical inactivity are the primary causes of NCDs. Although a series of guidelines for the management of NCDs have been published in China, these guidelines mainly focus on clinical practice targeting clinicians rather than the general population, and the evidence for NCD prevention based on modifiable lifestyle factors has been disorganized. Therefore, comprehensive and evidence-based guidance for the risk management of major NCDs for the general Chinese population is urgently needed. To achieve this overarching aim, we plan to develop a series of expert consensuses covering 15 major NCDs on health risk management for the general Chinese population. The objectives of these consensuses are (1) to identify and recommend suitable risk assessment methods for the Chinese population; and (2) to make recommendations for the prevention of major NCDs by integrating the current best evidence and experts' opinions. Methods and analysis For each expert consensus, we will establish a consensus working group comprising 40-50 members. Consensus questions will be formulated by integrating literature reviews, expert opinions, and an online survey. Systematic reviews will be considered as the primary evidence sources. We will conduct new systematic reviews if there are no eligible systematic reviews, the methodological quality is low, or the existing systematic reviews have been published for more than 3 years. We will evaluate the quality of evidence and make recommendations according to the GRADE approach. The consensuses will be reported according to the Reporting Items for Practice Guidelines in Healthcare (RIGHT).

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cognitive function and general psychopathology are two important classes of human behavior dimensions that are individually related to mental disorders across diagnostic categories. However, whether these two transdiagnostic dimensions are linked to common or distinct brain networks that convey resilience or risk for the development of psychiatric disorders remains unclear. METHODS The current study is a longitudinal investigation with 11,875 youths from the Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development (ABCD) Study at ages 9 to 10 years at the onset of the study. A machine learning approach based on canonical correlation analysis was used to identify latent dimensional associations of the resting-state functional connectome with multidomain behavioral assessments including cognitive functions and psychopathological measures. For the latent resting-state functional connectivity factor showing a robust behavioral association, its ability to predict psychiatric disorders was assessed using 2-year follow-up data, and its genetic association was evaluated using twin data from the same cohort. RESULTS A latent functional connectome pattern was identified that showed a strong and generalizable association with the multidomain behavioral assessments (5-fold cross-validation: ρ = 0.68-0.73 for the training set [n = 5096]; ρ = 0.56-0.58 for the test set [n = 1476]). This functional connectome pattern was highly heritable (h2 = 74.42%, 95% CI: 56.76%-85.42%), exhibited a dose-response relationship with the cumulative number of psychiatric disorders assessed concurrently and at 2 years post-magnetic resonance imaging scan, and predicted the transition of diagnosis across disorders over the 2-year follow-up period. CONCLUSIONS These findings provide preliminary evidence for a transdiagnostic connectome-based measure that underlies individual differences in the development of psychiatric disorders during early adolescence.

Abstract
It has been demonstrated that lactate/albumin (L/A) ratio is substantially relevant to the prognosis of sepsis, septic shock, and heart failure. However, there is still debate regarding the connection between the L/A ratio and severe acute myocardial infarction (AMI). The aim of this study is to determine the prognostic role of L/A ratio in patients with severe AMI. Our retrospective study extracted data from the Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care III (MIMIC-III) database, included 1,134 patients diagnosed with AMI. Based on the tertiles of L/A ratio, the patients were divided into three groups: Tertile1 (T1) group (L/A ratio<0.4063, n=379), Tertile2 (T2) group (0.4063≤L/A ratio≤0.6667, n =379), and Tertile3 (T3) group (L/A ratio>0.6667, n =376). Uni- and multivariate COX regression model were used to analyze the relationship between L/A ratio and 14-day, 28-day and 90-day all-cause mortality. Meanwhile, the restricted cubic spline (RCS) model was used to evaluate the effect of L/A ratio as a continuous variable. Higher mortality was observed in AMI patients with higher L/A ratio. Multivariate Cox proportional risk model validated the independent association of L/A ratio with 14-day all-cause mortality [hazard ratio (HR) 1.813, 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.041-3.156 (T3 vs T1 group)], 28-day all-cause mortality [HR 1.725, 95% CI 1.035-2.874 (T2 vs T1 group), HR 1.991, 95% CI 1.214-3.266 (T3 vs T1 group)], as well as 90-day all-cause mortality [HR 1.934, 95% CI 1.176-3.183 (T2 vs T1 group), HR 2.307, 95% CI 1.426-3.733 (T3 vs T1 group)]. There was a consistent trend in subgroup analysis. The Kaplan-Meier (K-M) survival curves indicated that patients with L/A ratio>0.6667 had the highest mortality. Even after adjusting the confounding factors, RCS curves revealed a nearly linearity between L/A ratio and 14-day, 28-day and 90-day all-cause mortality. Meanwhile, the areas under the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve (AUC) of 14-day, 28-day and 90-day all-cause mortality were 0.730, 0.725 and 0.730, respectively. L/A ratio was significantly associated with 14-day, 28-day and 90-day all-cause mortality in critical patients with AMI. Higher L/A ratio will be considered an independent risk factor for higher mortality in AMI patients.

Abstract
AIM To develop a Chinese version of the return-to-work self-efficacy (RTW-SE-11) and verify its reliability and validity. DESIGN A validation study. METHODS The RTW-SE-11 was translated into Chinese according to the Brislin's model, and then the semantic adjustment of questionnaire was carried out through multi-field expert evaluation and preliminary investigation. RESULTS All 11 items of the original questionnaire were retained. Content validity index (CVI) of the Chinese version of RTW-SE-11 indicated good validity, with Inter-rater Agreement (IR) of 0.97, item CVI of 0.90-1.00 and questionnaire CVI of 0.91. Cronbach's α coefficient of RTW-SE-11 (Chinese version) was 0.923, suggesting high internal consistency, with test-retest reliability of 0.799 and half-fold reliability of 0.926. Patient or public contribution: The Chinese version of the RTW-SE-11 questionnaire confirmed good reliability and validity for the assessment of return to work self-efficacy in Chinese breast cancer patients.
