Abstract
A NASICON-structured earth-abundant mixed transition metal (TM) containing Na-TM-phosphate, viz., Na2ZrFe(PO4)3, has been prepared via a sol-gel route using a low-cost Fe3+-based precursor. The as-prepared material crystallizes in the desired rhombohedral NASICON structure (space group: R3̅c) at room temperature. Synchrotron X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy, X-ray absorption spectroscopy, etc., have been performed to determine the crystal structure, associated details, composition, and electronic structures. In light of the structural features, as one of the possible functionalities of Na2FeZr(PO4)3, Na-intercalation/deintercalation has been examined, which indicates the occurrence of reversible electrochemical Na-insertion/extraction via Fe2+/Fe3+ redox at an average potential of ∼2.5 V. The electrochemical data and direct evidences from operando synchrotron XRD indicate that the rhombohedral structure is preserved during Na-insertion/extraction, albeit within a certain range of Na-content (i.e., ∼2-3 p.f.u.), beyond which rhombohedral → monoclinic transformation takes place. Within this range, Na-insertion/extraction takes place via solid-solution pathway, resulting in outstanding cyclic stability, higher Na-diffusivity, and good rate-capability. To the best of the authors' knowledge, this represents the first in-depth structural, compositional, and electrochemical studies with Na2ZrFe(PO4)3, along with the interplay between those, which provide insights into the design of similar low-cost materials for various applications, including sustainable electrochemical energy storage systems.

Abstract
Although there are many cathode candidates for sodium-ion batteries (NIBs), NaCrO2 remains one of the most attractive materials due to its reasonable level of capacity, nearly flat reversible voltages, and high thermal stability. However, the cyclic stability of NaCrO2 needs to be further improved in order to compete with other state-of-the-art NIB cathodes. In this study, we show that Cr2O3-coated and Al-doped NaCrO2, which is synthesized through a simple one-pot synthesis, can achieve unprecedented cyclic stability. We confirm the preferential formation of a Cr2O3 shell and a Na(Cr1-2xAl2x)O2 core, rather than xAl2O3/NaCrO2 or Na1/1+2x(Cr1/1+2xAl2x/1+2x)O2, through spectroscopic and microscopic methods. The core/shell compounds exhibit superior electrochemical properties compared to either Cr2O3-coated NaCrO2 without Al dopants or Al-doped NaCrO2 without shells because of their synergistic contributions. As a result, Na(Cr0.98Al0.02)O2 with a thin Cr2O3 layer (5 nm) shows no capacity fading during 1000 charge/discharge cycles while maintaining the rate capability of pristine NaCrO2. In addition, the compound is inert against humid air and water. We also discuss the reasons for the excellent performance of Cr2O3-coated Na(Cr1-2xAl2x)O2.

Abstract
Globally, cardiac arrest (CA) is a leading cause of death and disability. Asphyxial CA (ACA)-induced kidney damage is a crucial factor in reducing the survival rate. The purpose of this study was to investigate the role of antioxidant enzymes in histopathological renal damage in an ACA rat model at different time points. A total of 88 rats were divided into five groups and exposed to ACA except for the sham group. To evaluate glomerular function and oxidative stress, serum levels of blood urea nitrogen (BUN) and creatinine (Crtn) and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels in renal tissues were measured. To determine histopathological damage, hematoxylin and eosin staining, periodic acid-Schiff staining, and Masson's trichrome staining were performed. Expression levels of antioxidant enzymes including superoxide dismutase-1 (SOD-1), superoxide dismutase-2 (SOD-2), catalase (CAT), and glutathione peroxidase (GPx) were measured by immunohistochemistry (IHC). Survival rate of the experimental rats was reduced to 80% at 6 h, 55% at 12 h, 42.9% at 1 day, and 33% at 2 days after return of spontaneous circulation. Levels of BUN, Crtn, and MDA started to increase significantly in the early period of CA induction. Renal histopathological damage increased markedly from 6 h until two days post-CA. Additionally, expression levels of antioxidant enzymes were significantly decreased at 6 h, 12 h, 1 day, and 2 days after CA. CA-induced oxidative stress and decreased levels of antioxidant enzymes (SOD-1, SOD-2, CAT, GPx) from 6 h to two days could be possible mediators of severe renal tissue damage and increased mortality rate.

Abstract
A tandem (two-step) particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm is implemented in the argyrodite-based multidimensional composition space for the discovery of an optimal argyrodite composition, i.e., with the highest ionic conductivity (7.78 mS cm-1 ). To enhance the industrial adaptability, an elaborate pellet preparation procedure is not used. The optimal composition (Li5.5 PS4.5 Cl0.89 Br0.61 ) is fine-tuned to enhance its practical viability by incorporating oxygen in a stepwise manner. The final composition (Li5.5 PS4.23 O0.27 Cl0.89 Br0.61 ), which exhibits an ionic conductivity (σion ) of 6.70 mS cm-1 and an activation barrier of 0.27 eV, is further characterized by analyzing both its moisture and electrochemical stability. Relative to the other compositions, the exposure of Li5.5 PS4.23 O0.27 Cl0.89 Br0.61 to a humid atmosphere results in the least amount of H2 S released and a negligible change in structure. The improvement in the interfacial stability between the Li(Ni0.9 Co0.05 Mn0.05 )O2 cathode and Li5.5 PS4.23 O0.27 Cl0.89 Br0.61 also results in greater specific capacity during fast charge/discharge. The structural and chemical features of Li5.5 PS4.5 Cl0.89 Br0.61 and Li5.5 PS4.23 O0.27 Cl0.89 Br0.61 argyrodites are characterized using synchrotron X-ray diffraction, Raman spectroscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. This work presents a novel argyrodite composition with favorably balanced properties while providing broad insights into material discovery methodologies with applications for battery development.

Abstract
Li-ion rechargeable batteries are promising systems for large-scale energy storage solutions. Understanding the electrochemical process in the cathodes of these batteries using suitable techniques is one of the crucial steps for developing them as next-generation energy storage devices. Due to the broad energy range, synchrotron X-ray techniques provide a better option for characterizing the cathodes compared to the conventional laboratory-scale characterization instruments. This work gives an overview of various synchrotron radiation techniques for analyzing cathodes of Li-rechargeable batteries by depicting instrumental details of X-ray diffraction, X-ray absorption spectroscopy, X-ray imaging, and X-ray near-edge fine structure-imaging. Analysis and simulation procedures to get appropriate information of structural order, local electronic/atomic structure, chemical phase mapping and pores in cathodes are discussed by taking examples of various cathode materials. Applications of these synchrotron techniques are also explored to investigate oxidation state, metal-oxygen hybridization, quantitative local atomic structure, Ni oxidation phase and pore distribution in Ni-rich layered oxide cathodes.

Abstract
The layered sodium transition metal oxide, NaTMO2 (TM = transition metal), with a binary or ternary phases has displayed outstanding electrochemical performance as a new class of strategy cathode materials for sodium-ion batteries (SIBs). Herein, an in-depth phase analysis of developed Na1-x TMO2 cathode materials, Na0.76 Ni0.20 Fe0.40 Mn0.40 O2 with P2- and O3-type phases (NFMO-P2/O3) is offered. Structural visualization on an atomic scale is also provided and the following findings are unveiled: i) the existence of a mixed-phase intergrowth layer distribution and unequal distribution of P2 and O3 phases along two different crystal plane indices and ii) a complete reversible charge/discharge process for the initial two cycles that displays a simple phase transformation, which is unprecedented. Moreover, first-principles calculations support the evidence of the formation of a binary NFMO-P2/O3 compound, over the proposed hypothetical monophasic structures (O3, P3, O'3, and P2 phases). As a result, the synergetic effect of the simultaneous existence of P- and O-type phases with their unique structures allows an extraordinary level of capacity retention in a wide range of voltage (1.5-4.5 V). It is believed that the insightful understanding of the proposed materials can introduce new perspectives for the development of high-voltage cathode materials for SIBs.

Abstract
Designing an efficient and durable electrocatalyst for the sluggish oxygen evolution reaction (OER) at the anode remains the foremost challenge in developing proton exchange membrane (PEM) electrolyzers. Here, a highly active and durable cactus-like nanoparticle with an exposed heterointerface between the IrO2 and the low oxidation state Ru by introducing a trace amount of Mn dopant is reported. The heterostructure fabrication relies on initial mixing of the Ru and Ir phases before electrochemical oxidation to produce a conjoined Ru/IrO2 heterointerface. Benefitting from electron transfer at the heterointerface, the low oxidation state Ru species shows excellent initial activity, which is maintained even after 180 h of continuous OER test. In a half-cell test, the Mn-doped RuIr nanocactus (Mn-RuIr NCT) achieves a mass activity of 1.85 A mgIr+Ru -1 at 1.48 VRHE , which is 139-fold higher than that of commercial IrO2 . Moreover, the superior electrocatalytic performance of Mn-RuIr NCT in the PEM electrolysis system ensures its viability in practical uses. The results of the excellent catalytic performance for acidic OER indicate that the heterostructuring robust rutile IrO2 and the highly active Ru species with a low oxidation state on the catalyst surface drive a synergistic effect.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIMS To determine prevalence and clinical utility of pathogenic germline variants (PGV) in gastric and esophageal cancer patients using universal genetic testing approach. METHODS We undertook a prospective study of germline sequencing using an > 80 gene next-generation sequencing platform among patients with gastric and esophageal cancers receiving care at Mayo Clinic Cancer Center between April 1, 2018, and March 31, 2020. Patients were not selected based on cancer stage, family history of cancer, ethnicity, or age. Family cascade testing was offered at no cost. RESULTS A total of 96 patients were evaluated. Median age was 66 years, 80.2% were male, 89.6% were white. Nearly 39% of the cohort had esophageal cancer, 35.4% gastric cancer and 26% gastroesophageal junction cancers. Approximately half (52%) of the patients had metastatic disease. Pathogenic germline variants (PGV) were detected in 15.6% (n = 15) patients. The prevalence of PGV was 10.8% in esophageal cancer, 17.6% in gastric cancer and 20% in gastroesophageal cancer. Eighty percent of patients with a positive result would not have been detected by screening with standard guidelines for genetic testing. Most PGV detected included genes with high and moderate penetrance related to DNA damage response including BRCA1, BRCA2, PALB2 and ATM. CONCLUSIONS Universal multi-gene panel testing in gastric and esophageal cancers was associated with detection of heritable mutations in 15% of patients. The majority of PGV would not be detected with current screening guidelines and are related to DNA damage response.

Abstract
Oxygen vacancies and their correlation with the electronic structure are crucial to understanding the functionality of TiO2 nanocrystals in material design applications. Here, we report spectroscopic investigations of the electronic structure of anatase TiO2 nanocrystals by employing hard and soft X-ray absorption spectroscopy measurements along with the corresponding model calculations. We show that the oxygen vacancies significantly transform the Ti local symmetry by modulating the covalency of titanium-oxygen bonds. Our results suggest that the altered Ti local symmetry is similar to the C3v, which implies that the Ti exists in two local symmetries (D2d and C3v) at the surface. The findings also indicate that the Ti distortion is a short-range order effect and presumably confined up to the second nearest neighbors. Such distortions modulate the electronic structure and provide a promising approach to structural design of the TiO2 nanocrystals.

Abstract
Objectives: Syndecan-1 (SDC-1), a transmembrane heparin sulphate proteoglycan predominantly expressed on epithelial cells, also exists in a soluble form through ectodomain shedding. SDC-1 expression and shedding may be modulated in the inflammatory milieu of primary Sjögren's syndrome (SS). We investigated SDC-1 expression in minor salivary glands (MSGs) and analysed the association between salivary or plasma levels of SDC-1 and clinical parameters in SS.Method: We measured salivary and plasma SDC-1 levels via an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and assessed the salivary flow rates (SFRs) in 70 patients with SS and 35 healthy subjects. Disease activity indices, serological markers, salivary gland scintigraphy, and MSG biopsy were evaluated in patients with SS.Results: SDC-1 expression was upregulated on ductal epithelial cells in inflamed salivary glands. Salivary SDC-1 levels in patients significantly exceeded those in healthy subjects [median (interquartile range) 49.0 (20.7-79.1) vs 3.7 (1.7-6.3) ng/mL, p < 0.001] and inversely correlated with SFRs (r = -0.358, p = 0.032) and ejection fractions of the parotid (r = -0.363, p = 0.027) and submandibular (r = -0.485, p = 0.002) glands in salivary gland scintigraphy. Plasma SDC-1 levels were significantly correlated with the EULAR Sjögren's Syndrome Disease Activity Index (r = 0.507, p < 0.001) and EULAR Sjögren's Syndrome Patient Reported Index (r = 0.267, p = 0.033). Focus scores were correlated with salivary SDC-1 levels (r = 0.551, p = 0.004).Conclusion: Salivary and plasma SDC-1 levels may constitute potential biomarkers for salivary gland function and disease activity, respectively, in SS.

Abstract
In this retrospective multicentre cohort study that included 27 COVID-19 patients who underwent tracheostomy, the mean time between intubation and tracheostomy was 15.8 days and the negative conversion time of COVID-19 was 43.1 days. Eleven patients (40.7%) died of COVID-19 and the use of percutaneous dilatation tracheostomy was significantly associated with in-hospital death. Timely tracheostomy could be performed in COVID-19 patients, regardless of duration of intubation or positivity of COVID-19 test, with an open surgical tracheostomy as a preferable technique.

Abstract
Herein, we report the soft X-ray absorption spectroscopic investigation for Li(Ni0.8Co0.1Mn0.1)O2 cathode material during charging and discharging. These measurements were carried out at the Mn L-, Co L-, and Ni L-edges during various stages of charging and discharging. Both the Mn and Co L-edge spectroscopic measurements reflect the invariance in the oxidation states of Mn and Co ions. The Ni L-edge measurements show the modification of the oxidation state of Ni ions during the charging and discharging process. These studies show that eg states are affected dominantly in the case of Ni ions during the charging and discharging process. Abstract
Cuprous halides, characterized by a direct wide band-gap and a good lattice matching with Si, is an intrinsic p-type I-VII compound semiconductor. It shows remarkable optoelectronic properties, including a large exciton binding energy at room temperature and a very small piezoelectric coefficient. The major obstacle to its application is the difficulty in growing a single-crystal epitaxial film of cuprous halides. We first demonstrate the single crystal epitaxy of high quality cuprous iodide (CuI) film grown on Si and sapphire substrates by molecular beam epitaxy. Enhanced photoluminescence on the order of magnitude larger than that of GaN and continuous-wave optically pumped lasing were found in MBE grown CuI film. The intrinsic p-type characteristics of CuI were confirmed using an n-AlGaN/p-CuI junction that emits blue light. The discovery will provide an alternative way towards highly efficient optoelectronic devices compatible with both Si and III-nitride technologies.

Abstract
BACKGROUND This study evaluated the incidence, patterns and risk factors for recurrence after hemithyroidectomy in patients with low- and intermediate-risk papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC), and verified the predictive role of the risk staging systems in current use. METHODS The clinicopathological characteristics and risk categories were analysed according to recurrence in patients who underwent hemithyroidectomy for low- and intermediate-risk conventional PTC, and were followed up for at least 24 months. Five risk staging systems were used to stratify risk: the 2015 American Thyroid Association (ATA) system; Age, Metastases, Extent and Size (AMES) system; Metastases, Age, Complete resection, Invasion and Size (MACIS) system; Grade, Age, Metastases, Extent and Size (GAMES) system; and the eighth AJCC system. RESULTS The study included 561 patients; 93·9 per cent of the study population (527 of 561) had a papillary thyroid microcarcinoma 1 cm or smaller in size. At a mean follow-up of 83 months, 25 patients (4·5 per cent) had recurrence; among these patients, 23 (92%) presented with a remaining thyroid lobe. Multifocality was significantly associated with recurrence in univariable and multivariable analyses (adjusted hazard ratio 3·16, 95 per cent c.i. 1·25 to 7·98; P = 0·015). Disease-free survival (DFS) varied according to multifocality (P = 0·010). The five risk staging systems were not associated with recurrence, and their Harrell's C-index ranged from 0·500 to 0·531. DFS rates did not differ between the risk categories in each system. CONCLUSION Although the recurrence rate after hemithyroidectomy in patients with low- and intermediate-risk PTC was low, meticulous follow-up focusing on the remaining thyroid lobe is needed for early detection and timely management of recurrence. The risk scoring systems in current use have no predictive role in these patients.

Abstract
Herein, graphite is proposed as a reliable Ca2+-intercalation anode in tetraglyme (G4). When charged (reduced), graphite accommodates solvated Ca2+-ions (Ca-G4) and delivers a reversible capacity of 62 mAh g-1 that signifies the formation of a ternary intercalation compound, Ca-G4·C72. Mass/volume changes during Ca-G4 intercalation and the evolution of in operando X-ray diffraction studies both suggest that Ca-G4 intercalation results in the formation of an intermediate phase between stage-III and stage-II with a gallery height of 11.41 Å. Density functional theory calculations also reveal that the most stable conformation of Ca-G4 has a planar structure with Ca2+ surrounded by G4, which eventually forms a double stack that aligns with graphene layers after intercalation. Despite large dimensional changes during charge/discharge (C/D), both rate performance and cyclic stability are excellent. Graphite retains a substantial capacity at high C/D rates (e.g., 47 mAh g-1 at 1.0 A g-1 s vs 62 mAh g-1 at 0.05 A g-1) and shows no capacity decay during as many as 2000 C/D cycles. As the first Ca2+-shuttling calcium-ion batteries with a graphite anode, a full-cell is constructed by coupling with an organic cathode and its electrochemical performance is presented.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The local delivery of antimicrobials is attractive for a number of reasons. Chitosan, a biodegradable polysaccharide sponge material, has been proposed as medium to deliver antibiotics directly to wounds. In this report we evaluate the safety and practicality of antimicrobial delivery via chitosan sponge. METHOD We present the clinical course and systemic absorption characteristics of three cases of people with diabetic foot wounds treated with antibiotic soaked chitosan sponge (Sentrex BioSponge, Bionova Medical, Germantown, TN). The antibiotic sponge was made by reconstituting 1.2g tobramycin or 100mg doxycycline in 10-15ml saline and saturating the sponge with the solution. The sponge was then applied to the wounds. Serum levels of each respective antibiotic were evaluated after application. Additional in vitro studies were conducted evaluating elution of antibiotics from the chitosan sponge at established minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC) for Staphylococcus aureus over 28 days. RESULTS No patient experienced adverse local or systemic effects due to the sponge treatment. The measured serum levels applied antibiotics remained far less than established minimums after intravenous therapy. Each patient required further treatment, however local infection or contamination resolved during the course of their hospital stay after the chitosan/antibiotic application. CONCLUSION The use of antibiotic-impregnated chitosan sponges appears a safe and effective mechanism of local delivery of antimicrobials in wounds. Future studies and clinical trials are ongoing to confirm these results and to guide clinical applications.

Abstract
Quantum state tomography is both a crucial component in the field of quantum information and computation and a formidable task that requires an incogitable number of measurement configurations as the system dimension grows. We propose and experimentally carry out an intuitive adaptive compressive tomography scheme, inspired by the traditional compressed-sensing protocol in signal recovery, that tremendously reduces the number of configurations needed to uniquely reconstruct any given quantum state without any additional a priori assumption whatsoever (such as rank information, purity, etc.) about the state, apart from its dimension.

Abstract
KCrS2 is presented as a stable and high-rate layered material that can be used as a cathode in potassium-ion batteries. As far as it is known, KCrS2 is the only layered material with stoichiometric amounts of K+ , which enables coupling with a graphite anode for full-cell construction. Cr(III)/Cr(IV) redox in KCrS2 is also unique, because LiCrS2 and NaCrS2 are known to experience S2- /S2 2- redox. O3-KCrS2 is first charged to P3-K0.39 CrS2 and subsequently discharged to O'3-K0.8 CrS2 , delivering an initial discharge capacity of 71 mAh g-1 . The following charge/discharge (C/D) shows excellent reversibility between O'3-K0.8 CrS2 and P3-K0.39 CrS2 , retaining ≈90% of the initial capacity during 1000 continuous cycles. The rate performance is also noteworthy. A C/D rate increase of 100-fold (0.05 to 5 C) reduces the reversible capacity only by 39% (71 to 43 mAh g-1 ). The excellent cyclic stability and high rate performance are ascribed to the soft sulfide framework, which can effectively buffer the stress caused by K+ deinsertion/insertion. During the transformation between P3-K0.39 CrS2 and O'3-K0.8 CrS2 , the material resides mostly in the P3 phase, which minimizes the abrupt dimension change and allows facile K+ diffusion through spacious prismatic sites. Structural analysis and density functional theory calculations firmly support this reasoning.

Abstract
Electronics based on solution-processable materials are promising for applications in many fields which stimulated enormous research interest in liquid-drying and pattern formation. However, assembling of structure with submicrometre/nanometre resolution through liquid process is very challenging. We show a simple method to rapidly generate polymer structures with deep-submicrometre-sized features over large areas. In this method, a solution film is dried on a substrate under a suspended flexible template with groove/ridge surface topography. Upon solvent evaporation, the solution splits in the grooves and forms capillary bridges between the template and substrate, which are firmly pinned by the edges of the template grooves. This groove pinning stabilizes the contact lines, thereby allowing the formation of fine patterned structures with high aspect ratios which were used to fabricate various functional materials and electronic devices. We also produced secondary self-assembled nano-stripe patterns with resolutions of about 50 nm on the primary lines.

Abstract
Magnesium batteries have received attention as a type of post-lithium-ion battery because of their potential advantages in cost and capacity. Among the host candidates for magnesium batteries, orthorhombic α-V2O5 is one of the most studied materials, and it shows a reversible magnesium intercalation with a high capacity especially in a wet organic electrolyte. Studies by several groups during the last two decades have demonstrated that water plays some important roles in getting higher capacity. Very recently, proton intercalation was evidenced mainly using nuclear resonance spectroscopy. Nonetheless, the chemical species inserted into the host structure during the reduction reaction are still unclear (i.e., Mg(H2O)n2+, Mg(solvent, H2O)n2+, H+, H3O+, H2O, or any combination of these). To characterize the intercalated phase, the crystal structure of the magnesium-inserted phase of α-V2O5, electrochemically reduced in 0.5 M Mg(ClO4)2 + 2.0 M H2O in acetonitrile, was solved for the first time by the ab initio method using powder synchrotron X-ray diffraction data. The structure was tripled along the b-axis from that of the pristine V2O5 structure. No appreciable densities of elements were observed other than vanadium and oxygen atoms in the electron density maps, suggesting that the inserted species have very low occupancies in the three large cavity sites of the structure. Examination of the interatomic distances around the cavity sites suggested that H2O, H3O+, or solvated magnesium ions are too big for the cavities, leading us to confirm that the intercalated species are single Mg2+ ions or protons. The general formula of magnesium-inserted V2O5 is Mg0.17HxV2O5, (0.66 ≤ x ≤ 1.16). Finally, density functional theory calculations were carried out to locate the most plausible atomic sites of the magnesium and protons, enabling us to complete the structure modeling. This work provides an explicit answer to the question about Mg intercalation into α-V2O5.

Abstract
Visible emission colloidal quantum dots (QDs) have shown promise in optical and optoelectronic applications. These QDs are typically composed of relatively expensive elements in the form of indium, cadmium, and gallium since alternative candidate materials exhibiting similar properties are yet to be realized. Herein, for the first time, we report red green blue (RGB) photoluminescences with quantum yields of 18% from earth-abundant lead sulfide (PbS) QDs. The visible emissive property is mainly attributed to a high degree of crystallinity even for the extremely small QD sizes (1-3 nm), which is realized by employing a heterogeneous reaction methodology at high growth temperatures (>170 °C). We demonstrate that the proposed heterogeneous synthetic method can be extended to the synthesis of other metal chalcogenide QDs, such as zinc sulfide and zinc selenide, which are promising for future industrial applications. More importantly, benefiting from the enlarged band gaps, the as-prepared PbS solar cells show an impressive open circuit voltage (∼0.8 V) beyond that reported to date.

Abstract
We fabricated C-doped (1.5 wt.%) In3Sb1Te2 (CIST) thin films with amorphous phase (a-CIST) using a sputter method. Two electrical-phase-changes at 250 and 275 °C were observed in the sheet resistance measurement. In order to understand the origin of these electrical-phase-changes, all samples were characterized by XRD, TEM, and HRXPS with synchrotron radiation. In a-CIST, only weak Sb-C bonding was observed. In the first electrical-phase-change at 250 °C, strong Sb-C bonding occurred without an accompanying structural/phase change (still amorphous). On the other hand, the second electrical-phase-change at 275 °C was due to the structural/phase change from amorphous to crystalline without a chemical state change.

Abstract
An Ag-embedded LiMnPO4 (LMP) cathode was synthesized by solid-state reaction using a 1 wt% Ag precursor. Structure, morphology, and electrical conductivity studies of Ag-embedded LMP were performed by high resolution powder X-ray diffraction, high resolution transmission electron microscopy, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and four probe measurements. An Ag nanoparticle (∼26 nm) surrounded by several olivine crystallites within a single particle dramatically improved the overall electrical conductivity of LMP by four orders of magnitude relative to that of pristine LMP, playing roles as conducting bridges among LMP crystallites as well as particles. Rietveld analysis confirmed structural variations related to the modification of atomic bond lengths of Mn-O, P-O, and Li-O coordination due to Ag-embedment and thereby leads to facile Li ion diffusion in LMP. Consequently, although a small amount of Ag was included, the Ag-embedded LMP cathode exhibited outstanding electrochemical performances (92 mA h g(-1) at 10 C) versus lithium.

We investigated the thermoelectric properties of Cl-doped polycrystalline compounds In4Pb0.01Sn0.03Se2.9Clx (x = 0.02, 0.04, and 0.06). X-ray diffraction measurement shows a gradual change in lattice volume for x ≤ 0.04 without any impurity phases indicating a systemic change in Cl doping. The Cl doping in the compounds has the effect of increasing carrier concentration and the effective mass of carriers, resulting in an increase in power factor at a high temperature (∼700 K). Because of the increased electrical conductivity at a high temperature, the dimensionless thermoelectric figure of merit ZT reaches 1.25 at 723 K for the x = 0.04 Cl-doped compound, which is a relatively high value for n-type polycrystalline materials.

Abstract
We fabricated and characterized the material with Mn (10 at.%: atomic percent) doped In3Sb1Te2 (MIST) using co-sputtering and synchrotron radiation, respectively. The MIST thin film showed phase-changes at 97 and 320 °C, with sheet resistances of ~10 kΩ(sq) (amorphous), ~0.2 kΩ(sq) (first phase-change), and ~10 Ω(sq) (second phase-change). MIST did not exhibit any chemical separation or increased structural instability during either phase-change, as determined with high-resolution x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Chemical state changes were only depended for In without concomitant changes of Sb and Te. Apparently, doped Mn atoms can be induced with movement of only In atoms.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Pathologically confirmed microscopic extrathyroidal extension (ETE) is often identified after hemithyroidectomy in patients with papillary thyroid microcarcinoma (PTMC). Without the presence of microscopic ETE, these patients would be optimal candidates for hemithyroidectomy. AIM The present study aimed at evaluating the clinical impact of microscopic ETE on the recurrence of PTMC treated with hemithyroidectomy. SUBJECTS AND METHODS We compared the clinicopathological characteristics and 5-year outcomes for 262 PTMC patients without ETE and 86 with microscopic ETE who were treated with hemithyroidectomy between January 2004 and December 2010. RESULTS The mean tumour size was larger (0.67 vs. 0.54 cm, p < 0.001) and the proportion of tumours measuring ≥0.5 cm was higher (84.9 vs. 66.8 %, p = 0.001) in patients with microscopic ETE as compared with patients without ETE. Occult multifocal disease was more frequent in patients with microscopic ETE than in those without ETE (14.0 vs. 6.5 %, p = 0.030). However, the recurrence rate was not different between the two groups during the mean 55.8-month follow-up period. In addition, univariate and multivariate analyses revealed no meaningful association between recurrence and microscopic ETE in patients with PTMC treated with hemithyroidectomy. CONCLUSIONS Although microscopic ETE was associated with large tumour size and multifocal disease, its clinical impact on disease recurrence was not significant in PTMC patients treated with hemithyroidectomy. Therefore, microscopic ETE identified after hemithyroidectomy would not be an absolute indication for completion thyroidectomy in patients with PTMC.
