Abstract
The inclusion of boron atoms into chiral π-conjugated systems is an effective strategy to unlock unique chiroptical properties. Herein, the preparation and characterization of a configurationally stable axially-chiral boramidine are reported, showcasing absorption in the UV domain, deep-blue fluorescence (Φ up to 94%), and ca. |10-3| gabs and glum values. Detailed photophysical studies and quantum-chemical calculations clearly elucidate the deactivation pathways of the emissive state to triplet excited states, involving increased spin-orbit coupling between the lowest singlet excited state and an upper triplet state.

Abstract
Engineering asymmetric transmission between left-handed and right-handed circularly polarized light in planar Fabry-Pérot (FP) microcavities would enable a variety of chiral light-matter phenomena, with applications in spintronics, polaritonics, and chiral lasing. Such symmetry breaking, however, generally requires Faraday rotators or nanofabricated polarization-preserving mirrors. We present a simple solution requiring no nanofabrication to induce asymmetric transmission in FP microcavities, preserving low mode volumes by embedding organic thin films exhibiting apparent circular dichroism (ACD); an optical phenomenon based on 2D chirality. Importantly, ACD interactions are opposite for counter-propagating light. Consequently, we demonstrated asymmetric transmission of cavity modes over an order of magnitude larger than that of the isolated thin film. Through circular dichroism spectroscopy, Mueller matrix ellipsometry, and simulation using theoretical scattering matrix methods, we characterize the spatial, spectral, and angular chiroptical responses of this 2D chiral microcavity.

Abstract
Modulation of absorbance and emission is key for the design of chiral chromophores. Accessing a series of compounds absorbing and emitting (circularly polarized) light over a wide spectral window and often toward near-infrared is of practical value in (chir)optical applications. Herein, by late-stage functionalization on derivatives bridging triaryl methyl and helicene domains, we have achieved the regioselective triple introduction of para electron-donating or electron-withdrawing substituents. Extended tuning of electronic (e.g., E1/2red -1.50 V → -0.68 V) and optical (e.g., emission covering from 550 to 850 nm) properties is achieved for the cations and neutral radicals; the latter compounds being easily prepared by mono electron reductions under electrochemical or chemical conditions. While luminescence quantum yields can be increased up to 70% in the cationic series, strong Cotton effects are obtained for certain radicals at low energies (λabs ∼ 700-900 nm) with gabs values above 10-3. The open-shell electronic nature of the radicals was further characterized by electron paramagnetic resonance revealing an important spin density delocalization that contributes to their persistence.

Abstract
Chemoresponsive microgels functionalized with enantiomeric Δ- or Λ-[Ru(bpy)3]2+ showed tunable chiroptical properties upon swelling and shrinking. The tuning is triggered by a modulation of the local mobility of [Ru(bpy)3]2+ upon addition of fructose, controlling interactions and distances between [Ru(bpy)3]2+ and phenylboronic acid.

Abstract
Chiral materials formed by aggregated organic compounds play a fundamental role in chiral optoelectronics, photonics and spintronics. Nonetheless, a precise understanding of the molecular interactions involved remains an open problem. Here we introduce magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) as a new tool to elucidate molecular interactions and structural parameters of a supramolecular system. A detailed analysis of MCD together with electronic circular dichroism spectra combined to ab initio calculations unveils essential information on the geometry and energy levels of a self-assembled thin film made of a carbazole di-bithiophene chiral molecule. This approach can be extended to a generality of chiral organic materials and can help rationalizing the fundamental interactions leading to supramolecular order. This in turn could enable a better understanding of structure-property relationships, resulting in a more efficient material design.

Abstract
We report the synthesis of chiral lanthanide complexes with extended π conjugation for efficient circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) via two-photon excitation (2PE). The pyridine bis-oxazoline (PyBox) core provides the chiral Ln3+ environment, while the extension of the conjugated backbone through the pyridine 4-position with a phenylacetylene unit increases the two-photon absorption cross section. This work presents an important step toward the development of chiral systems displaying enhanced nonlinear optical properties, with potential applications in imaging and sensing, as well as in photodynamic therapy due to the selective excitation of molecules within a specific focal volume.

Abstract
Synthesis and functionalization of diketopyrrolo[3,4-c]pyrrole (DPP) derivatives containing chiral groups able to induce a strong chiral perturbation of the DPP core are still a challenging task. We report in this work the straightforward preparation of four bis([4]helicene)-DPP and bis([4]thiahelicene)-DPP dyes upon the condensation of 2-CN-[4](thia)helicene precursors, followed by their N-alkylation by nucleophilic substitution (compounds 9-11) or by a Mitsunobu-type strategy (compound 12). Compound 12, which contains sec-phenylethyl groups attached to the nitrogen atoms, has been obtained as (R,R) and (S,S) enantiomers. The four DPP-helicenes are luminescent in solution, while the N-benzyl (10) and N-sec-phenethyl (12) are emissive in the solid state as well. The chiroptical properties of compound 12 in solution and in the solid state indicate a strong chiral perturbation provided by the α-stereogenic centres, in spite of the stereodynamic nature of the [4]helicene flanking units.

Abstract
We introduce an optical microscopy technique, circularly polarized microscopy or CPM, able to afford spatially resolved electronic circular dichroism (ECD) of thin films of chiral organic semiconductors through a commercial microscope equipped with a camera and inexpensive optics. Provided the dichroic ratio is sufficiently large, the spatial resolution is on the order of the μm and is only limited by the magnification optics integrated in the microscope. We apply CPM to thin films of small chiral π-conjugated molecules, which gave rise to ordered aggregates in the thin layer. Primarily, conventional ECD can reveal and characterize chiral supramolecular structures and possible interferences between anisotropic properties of solid samples; however, it cannot generally account for the spatial distribution of such properties. CPM offers a characterization of supramolecular chirality and of commingling polarization anisotropies of the material, describing their local distribution. To validate CPM, we demonstrated that it can be adopted to quantify the local ECD of samples characterized by intense signals, virtually on any standard optical microscope.

Abstract
Chiral fluorescent macrocycles consisting of two to four units of dimethyl 2,5-diaminoterephthalate can be readily synthesized in a one-pot manner from inexpensive building blocks. Depending on the concentration, either a paracyclophane-like dimer with closely stacked benzene rings or a triangular trimer is the main product of the reaction. The macrocycles exhibit fluorescence in solution as well as in the solid state with maxima that are red-shifted with decreasing size of the macrocyclic ring and are observed at wavelengths from 590 (tetramer in solution) to 700 nm (dimer in the solid state). Chirality dictates the differential absorption and emission of circularly polarized light by these molecules. The ECD and CPL effects are particularly strong for the trimer, which is characterized by relatively large dissymmetry factors gabs =±2.8×10-3 at 531 nm and glum =±2.3×10-3 at 580 nm in n-hexane, being at the same time highly luminescent (Φfl =13.7 %). Despite the small chromophore, the circularly polarized brightness BCPL of 2.3 dm3 mol-1 cm-1 is comparable to values reported for other classes of established CPL emitters in the visible region, such as expanded helicenes or larger π-conjugated systems.

Circularly Polarized Luminescence from New Heteroleptic Eu(III) and Tb(III) Complexes. Inorg Chem 2023. Abstract
The complexes [Eu(bpcd)(tta)], [Eu(bpcd)(Coum)], and [Tb(bpcd)(Coum)] [tta = 2-thenoyltrifluoroacetyl-acetonate, Coum = 3-acetyl-4-hydroxy-coumarin, and bpcd = N,N'-bis(2-pyridylmethyl)-trans-1,2-diaminocyclohexane-N,N'-diacetate] have been synthesized and characterized from photophysical and thermodynamic points of view. The optical and chiroptical properties of these complexes, such as the total luminescence, decay curves of the Ln(III) luminescence, electronic circular dichroism, and circularly polarized luminescence, have been investigated. Interestingly, the number of coordinated solvent (methanol) molecules is sensitive to the nature of the metal ion. This number, estimated by spectroscopy, is >1 for Eu(III)-based complexes and <1 for Tb(III)-based complexes. A possible explanation for this behavior is provided via the study of the minimum energy structure obtained by density functional theory (DFT) calculations on the model complexes of the diamagnetic Y(III) and La(III) counterparts [Y(bpcd)(tta)], [Y(bpcd)(Coum)], and [La(bpcd)(Coum)]. By time-dependent DFT calculations, estimation of donor-acceptor (D-A) distances and of the energy position of the S1 and T1 ligand excited states involved in the antenna effect was possible. These data are useful for rationalizing the different sensitization efficiencies (ηsens) of the antennae toward Eu(III) and Tb(III). The tta ligand is an optimal antenna for sensitizing Eu(III) luminescence, while the Coum ligand sensitizes better Tb(III) luminescence {ϕovl = 55%; ηsens ≥ 55% for the [Tb(bpcd)(Coum)] complex}. Finally, for the [Eu(bpcd)(tta)] complex, a sizable value of glum (0.26) and a good quantum yield (26%) were measured.

Abstract
A chiral bispyrene macrocycle designed for exclusive intermolecular excimer fluorescence upon aggregation was synthesized by a double hydrothiolation of a bis enol ether macrocycle followed by intramolecular oxidation of free thiols. Unusually high stereoselectivity was achieved for the thiol-ene additions under templated conditions and Et3B/O2 radical initiation. After enantiomer separation (chiral stationary phase HPLC), aqueous conditions provoked aggregation. Detailed structural evolution was afforded by ECD/CPL monitoring. Three regimes can be observed and characterized by strong modifications in chiroptical patterns under, at, or above a 70% H2O:THF threshold. In luminescence, high glum dissymmetry factors values were obtained, up to 0.022, as well as a double sign inversion of CPL signals during the aggregation, a behavior rationalized by time-dependent density functional theory (TDDFT) calculations. Langmuir layers of enantiopure disulfide macrocycles were formed at the air-water interface and transferred onto solid substrates to afford Langmuir-Blodgett films, which were then studied by AFM and UV/ECD/fluorescence/CPL.

Abstract
Helicenes are an interesting scaffold for chiroptical properties and in particular circularly polarized luminescence (CPL). In this short review, we collect the luminescence (glum ) and absorption (gabs ) dissymmetry factors associated to the first Cotton effect of the electronic circular dichroism (ECD) spectrum. Considering the data for 170 [n]-helicenes (n = 4-11), overall we found reasonable correlations between glum and gabs . Despite a few notable exceptions, this would confirm a similarity in the stereochemistry of the ground and emitting excited states for most helicenes. These results may be useful in rationalizing chiroptical data and help chemists in designing new helicene structures with the desired CPL properties.

Abstract
We studied the impact of achiral substituents on the chiral supramolecular architectures of diketopyrrolo[3,4-c]pyrrole-1,2,3-1H-triazole (DPP) dyes. We decorated the same chiral DPP motif with substituent groups on the nitrogen atoms of the lactam moiety: the hydrophobic n-octyl alkyl chain, the hydrophilic triethylene glycol (TEG) chain and the thermo-cleavable t-butoxycarbonyl (t-Boc) carbamate group. In spite of identical conjugated chromophore and chiral appendage, in aggregated form the three dyes displayed profoundly different optical, chiroptical, electrochemical and thermal features. ECD measurements revealed differences in the aggregation modes, which would be inaccessible by most other techniques. We found strong chiroptical features, which would have major implications in the context of chiral organic opto-electronics and in the development of other highly innovative technological applications.

Abstract
Near-infrared circularly polarised luminescence (NIR-CPL) has many interesting and potential applications ranging from CPL-microscopy to the telecommunication industry. In recent years, a surge of visible-emissive CPL systems has occurred, due to the increased popularity of CPL as a spectroscopic technique and greater accessibility to CPL instrumentation. Despite the increased interest, few reports on complexes which emit in the NIR are available, and mostly limited to lanthanide and Cr(III) complexes due to their large pseudo-Stokes shift and magnetic dipole (MD) allowed, electric dipole (ED) forbidden nature. In the following, we aim to give an overview of the recent technological improvements, which allow NIR-CPL to be measured, and describe the chiroptical properties of metal complexes which achieve this feat.

Impact of chiral ligands on photophysical and electro-optical properties of β-diketonate europium complexes in circularly polarized OLEDs. Chirality 2023; 35:270-280. Abstract
Luminescent lanthanide complexes exhibiting chiroptical properties are attracting attention for their application in chiral optoelectronics and photonics, thanks to their unique optical properties, allied to intraconfigurational f-f transitions, which are generally electric-dipole-forbidden and can be magnetic dipole-allowed, which in an appropriate environment can lead to high dissymmetry factors and strong luminescence, in the presence of an antenna ligand. However, because luminescence and chiroptical activity are governed by different selection rules, their successful application in commonly used technologies is still an expectation. Recently, we showed that europium complexes bearing β-diketonates acting as luminescence sensitizers, and chiral bis(oxazolinyl) pyridine derivatives as the chirality inducer, reasonably perform in circularly polarized (CP) organic light-emitting devices (OLEDs). Indeed, europium β-diketonate complexes are an interesting molecular starting point, given their strong luminescence and their established use in conventional (i.e., nonpolarized) OLEDs. In this context, it is interesting to investigate in detail the impact of the ancillary chiral ligand on complex emission properties and the performances of corresponding CP-OLEDs. Here we show that, by incorporating the chiral compound as emitter in the architecture of solution processed electroluminescent devices, CP emission is retained, and the efficiency of the device is comparable to reference unpolarized OLED. The observed remarkable dissymmetry values strengthen the position of chiral lanthanide-OLEDs as CP-emitting devices.

Abstract
The reaction of Ln(NO3)2·6H2O (Ln = Eu, Tb, Dy and Sm) with (R)-(-)-α-methoxyphenylacetic acid (R-HMPA) and 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) in EtOH/H2O allows the isolation of 1D chiral compounds of formula [Ln(μ-R-MPA)(R-MPA)2(phen)]n in which Ln = Eu (R-Eu), Tb (R-Tb), Dy (R-Dy) and Sm (R-Sm). The same synthesis by using (S)-(+)-α-methoxyphenylacetic acid (S-HMPA) instead of (R)-(-)-α-methoxyphenylacetic acid allows the isolation of the enantiomeric compounds with formula [Ln(μ-S-MPA)(S-MPA)2(phen)]n where Ln = Eu (S-Eu), Tb (S-Tb), Dy (S-Dy) and Sm (S-Sm). Single crystal X-Ray diffraction measurements were performed for compounds R/S-Eu, R/S-Tb, S-Dy and S-Sm. The luminescence and the circular dichroism measured in the solid state are reported. All compounds show sensitized luminescence, notably the Eu3+ and Tb3+ ones, whose emission color can be perceived by the naked eye. For the Eu3+ and Tb3+ derivatives the quantum yield and the circular polarized luminescence have been measured. For the magnetic allowed transition 5D0 → 7F1 of the Eu3+ compound, the anisotropy factor glum is ±0.013 (+for S-Eu). Also, magnetic properties of all compounds were studied with the Dy3+ analogue showing slow relaxation of the magnetization under a direct current magnetic field of 1000 Oe.

Abstract
We synthesized bis-aryl carbazole borane derivatives having emissive properties and axial chirality. The resolution of a thermally stable atropisomeric pair (compound 1b), due to a B-C chiral axis, was achieved by chiral stationary-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (CSP-HPLC). Complete photophysical properties of all compounds were measured and simulated by time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT) calculations of the complete fluorescence cycle, and circularly polarized luminescence spectra were obtained for the atropisomers of compound 1b, whose absolute configuration was derived using a TD-DFT simulation of the electronic circular dichroism (ECD) spectra.

Abstract
A straightforward two-step synthesis protocol affords a series of chiral amide-based bis-pyridine substituted polyether macrocycles. One ligand is particularly able to complex terbium(III) ions spontaneously. Upon complexation, interesting chiroptical properties are observed both in absorbance (ECD) and in fluorescence (CPL). In ligand-centered electronic circular dichroism, a sign inversion coupled with a signal enhancement is measured; while an easily detectable metal-centered circularly polarized luminescence with a glum of 0.05 is obtained for the main 5D4 → 7F5 terbium transition. The coordination mode and structure of the complex was studied using different analysis methods (NMR analysis, spectrophotometric titration and solid-state elucidation).

By selecting the catalyst, [CpRu(CH3 CN)3 ][PF6 ] (Cp=cyclopentadienyl) or Rh2 (oct)4 , chemo and regioselective insertions of derived metal carbenes are achieved in favor of mono- or bis-functionalized malonate derivatives, respectively, (r.r.>49 : 1, up to 77 % yield, 12 examples). This multi-introduction of malonate groups is particularly useful to tune optical and chemical properties such as absorption, emission or Brønsted acidity but also cellular bioimaging. Density-functional theory further elucidates the origin of the carbene insertion selectivity and also showcases the importance of conformations in the optical response.

Abstract
In essentially one-pot, using Ir- and Pd-catalysis, tris(arene)-functionalized cationic [4]helicenes are synthesized with full regioselectivity and enantiospecificity starting from a trivial precursor (17 examples). This poly-addition of aryl groups improves key optical properties, that is, fluorescence quantum yields and lifetimes. Electronic circular dichroism and circularly polarized luminescence signatures are observed up to the far-red domain, in particular with additional arenes prone to aggregation.

Abstract
The chiroptical features of chiral diketopyrrolo[3,4‐c]pyrrole (DPP) derivatives have been only marginally investigated to date. In this regard, we have synthesized ad hoc four chiral DPP dyes, functionalized with enantiopure alkyl groups from natural sources either on the lactam moieties or on the terminal positions of the π‐conjugated backbone, to promote an efficient self‐assembly into chiral supramolecular structures. For each of them, the aggregation modes has been investigated by absorbance and ECD spectroscopies in conditions of solution aggregation and on thin films, considering the effects of deposition technique (drop casting vs. spin coating) and post‐deposition operations (solvent and thermal annealing). The effect of the structure of lateral π‐conjugated units attached to the central DPP scaffold, as well as that of the position of the alkyl chiral group, has been assessed. ECD revealed superior capability, compared to absorbance spectroscopy, to provide information on the aggregation modes and to detect the possible co‐existence of multiple aggregation pathways.

Abstract
Novel chiral Er complexes based on both enantiomers of extended iPrPyBox (2,6‐Bis[4‐isopropyl‐4,5‐dihydrooxazol‐2‐yl)]pyridine) show strong near‐infrared circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) within the 1400 to 1600 nm spectral region under 450 nm irradiation. CPL activity in this region, despite being particularly rare, would open the way to potential applications in the domain, e.g., of fiber‐optic telecommunications and free‐space long‐distance optical communications employing circularly polarized light. Moreover, the long wavelength excitation is advantageous for applications in the field of (circularly polarized) microscopy and bioimaging.

Abstract
We report the synthesis, purification and characterization of chiral carbon nanodots starting from atropoisomeric precursors. The obtained atropoisomeric carbon nanodots are soluble in organic solvents and have good thermal stability, which are desirable features for technological applications. The synthetic protocol is robust, as it supports a number of variations in terms of molecular doping agents. Remarkably, the combination of axially chiral precursors and 1,4‐benzoquinone as doping agent results in green‐emissive carbon dots displaying circularly polarized luminescence. Dissymmetry factors of |3.5|×10−4 are obtained in solution, without the need of any additional element of chirality. Introducing axial chirality expands the strategies available to tailor the properties of carbon nanodots, paving the way for carbon nanoparticles that combine good processability in organic solvents with engineered advanced chiroptical properties.

Abstract
Protein‐polymer conjugates are a blooming class of hybrid systems with high biomedical potential. Despite a plethora of papers on their biomedical properties, the physical–chemical characterization of many protein‐polymer conjugates is missing. Here, we evaluated the thermal stability of a set of fully‐degradable polyphosphoester‐protein conjugates by variable temperature circular dichroism, a common but powerful technique. We extensively describe their thermodynamic stability in different environments (in physiological buffer or in presence of chemical denaturants, e.g., acid or urea), highlighting the protective role of the polymer in preserving the protein from denaturation. For the first time, we propose a simple but effective protocol to achieve useful information on these systems in vitro, useful to screen new samples in their early stages.

Abstract
We report the first example of very efficient NIR Circularly Polarized Luminescence (CPL) (around 970 nm) in water, obtained thanks to the combined use of a chiral Yb complex and of poly lactic‐co‐glycolic acid (PLGA) nanoparticles. [YbL(tta)2]CH3COO (L=N, N’‐bis(2‐pyridylmethylidene)‐1,2‐(R,R+S,S) cyclohexanediamine and tta=2‐thenoyltrifluoroacetonate) shows good CPL in organic solvents, because the tta ligands efficiently sensitize Yb NIR luminescence and the readily prepared chiral ligand L endows the complex with the necessary dissymmetry. PLGA nanoparticles incorporate the complex and protect the metal ion from the intrusion of solvent molecules, while ensuring biocompatibility, water solubility and stability to the complex. Hydrophilic NIR‐CPL optical probes can find applications in the field of NIR‐CPL bio‐assays.

Abstract
Organic compounds showing circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) are at the forefront of novel applications and technologies. Here we show the synthesis and chiroptical properties of pyrene and perylene derivatives of inexpensive chiral scaffolds: isomannide and isosorbide. Low‐intensity ECD spectra were obtained, suggesting the absence of chromophore interaction in the ground state, except in the case of isomannide bis‐perylenecarboxylate, whose ECD spectrum showed a positive exciton couplet. All isomannide derivatives, with the only exception of the one containing a pyrenecarboxylate and a perylenecarboxylate, exhibited excimer CPL spectra, whereas isosorbide derivatives did not show any CPL. Isomannide derivatives bearing two pyrenecarboxylate or two pyrenylacetate groups showed positive CPL emission with dissymmetry factors up to 10−2, which depends on the conformational freedom of the appended units. The CPL sign, Stokes shift and order of magnitude of dissymmetry factor were reproduced by excited‐state calculations on a representative compound. Interestingly, the mixed derivative containing pyrenic units with different spacing from the isomannide scaffold showed an oppositely signed excimer band with respect to the homo‐substituted derivatives.

Abstract
Novel BN-doped compounds based on chiral, tetrasubstituted 4,7,12,15-[2.2]paracyclophane and NBN-benzo[ f , g ]tetracene were synthesized by Sonogashira-Hagihara coupling. Conjugated ethynyl linkers allow for electronic communication between the π-electron systems through-bond, whereas through-space interactions are provided by strong π-π overlap between the pairs of NBN-building blocks. Excellent optical and chiroptical properties in racemic and enantiopure conditions were measured, with molar absorption coefficients up to ε = 2.04·10 5 M -1 cm -1 , fluorescence quantum yields up to Φ PL = 0.70, and intense, mirror-image electronic circular dichroism and circularly polarized luminescence signals in the magnitude of 10 -3 for the absorption and luminescence dissymmetry factors. Computed g lum, calcd. values are matching the experimental ones. Electroanalytical data show both oxidation and reduction of the ethynyl-linked tetra-NBN-substituted paracyclophane, with an overlap of two redox processes for oxidation leading to a diradical dication.

Abstract
We carried out a study of absorption (CD) and emission (CPL) chiroptical properties in the NIR region of two sets of Yb, Tm and Er complexes. The two complexes include a D3 symmetric, [TMG-H+]3Ln(BINOLate)3 (Ln = Yb, Tm, Er; TMG = 1,1,3,3-tetramethylguanidine; BINOLate = 1,1'-bi-2-naphtholate), and a tetrakis, C4 symmetric, CsLn(hfbc)4 (Ln = Yb, Tm, Er; hfbc = 3-heptafluorobutylyrylcamphorate). The lanthanides studied gave access to three discrete energy domains, Yb (900-1040 nm), Tm (1180-1240 nm) and Er (1430-1600 nm) in which the chiroptical activity was assessed using gabs (and glum for Yb complexes). Exceptionally high discrimination between left and right circularly polarised light was observed, with values up to almost the theoretical maximum (±2).

Abstract
Singlet fission (SF), i.e., the splitting of a high-energy exciton into two lower-energy triplet excitons, has the potential to increase the efficiency for harvesting spectrally broad light. The path from the photopopulated singlet state to free triplets is complicated by competing processes that decrease the overall SF efficiency. A detailed understanding of the whole cascade and the nature of the photoexcited singlet state is still a major challenge. Here, we introduce a pentacene dimer with a flexible crown ether spacer enabling a control of the interchromophore coupling upon solvent-induced self-aggregation as well as cation binding. The systematic change of solvent polarity and viscosity and excitation wavelength, as well as the available conformational phase space, allows us to draw a coherent picture of the whole SF cascade from the femtosecond to microsecond time scales. High coupling leads to ultrafast SF (<2 ps), independent of the solvent polarity, and to highly coupled correlated triplet pairs. The absence of a polarity effect indicates that the solvent coordinate does not play a significant role and that SF is driven by intramolecular modes. Low coupling results in much slower SF (∼500 ps), which depends on viscosity, and leads to weakly coupled correlated triplet pairs. These two triplet pairs could be spectrally distinguished and their contribution to the overall SF efficiency, i.e., to the population of free triplets, could be determined. Our results reveal how the overall SF efficiency can be increased by conformational restrictions and control of the structural fluctuation dynamics.

Abstract
Strongly dissymmetric circularly polarised (CP) luminescence from small organic molecules could transform a range of technologies, such as display devices. However, highly dissymmetric emission is usually not possible with small organic molecules, which typically give dissymmetric factors of photoluminescence (gPL ) less than 10-2 . Here we describe an almost 103 -fold chiroptical amplification of a π-extended superhelicene when embedded in an achiral conjugated polymer matrix. This combination increases the |gPL | of the superhelicene from approximately 3×10-4 in solution to 0.15 in a blend film in the solid-state. We propose that the amplification arises not simply through a chiral environment effect, but instead due to electrodynamic coupling between the electric and magnetic transition dipoles of the polymer donor and superhelicene acceptor, and subsequent CP Förster resonance energy transfer. We show that this amplification effect holds across several achiral polymer hosts and thus represents a simple and versatile approach to enhance the g-factors of small organic molecules.

Abstract
The controlled preparation of chiral emissive transition metal complexes is fundamental in the field of circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) active molecular materials. For this purpose, enantiopure Zn(ii) complexes 1 and 2 based on a tetradentate salen ligand surrounded by [4]helicene moieties, together with their racemic counterpart 3, have been herein synthesized. Chirality is primarily brought about by chiral 1,2-cyclohexane-diamines. Alternatively, achiral complex 4 based on ortho-phenylene-diamine has been prepared as well. Single crystal X-ray diffraction analyses have been performed on helicenic intermediates 8 and 9 and complexes 1 and 4. Complexes 1 and 4 display the typical tetradentate O,N,N,O coordination around Zn(ii) characteristic of salen ligands, and bear two [4]helicene moieties. The zinc complexes are luminescent in the visible range around 560 nm at room temperature in aerated solutions with the QY reaching ca. 15% for a luminescence lifetime of 5.5 ns. The optical activities of these complexes have been assessed by CD and CPL, and compared to DFT calculations.

Abstract
Chiral Eu3+ -based systems are frequently studied via circularly polarized luminescence spectroscopy. The emission lifetimes of each circular polarization, however, are virtually always ignored, because in a homogeneous sample of emitters, there should be no difference between the two. However, we show that in less robust Eu3+ complex structures, as in the chiral complex Eu (facam)3 , a difference in the lifetimes of the two circularly polarized emission components arises due to heterogeneity of the complexes. In this case, each species within the sample could have different degrees of circularly polarized luminescence and decay rates at certain emission lines. The superposition of the emission components of the various chiral species leads to an overall difference in decay rate between the two circular polarizations. Such a difference is also shown for Eu3+ -doped chiral TbPO4 ·D2 O nanocrystals. We believe that this kind of measurement could be a unique tool for determining the homogeneity of a lanthanide-based chiral system, where other methods might fail in this task.

Abstract
Controlling circularly polarized (CP) emission is key for both fundamental understanding and applications in the field of chiral photonics and electronics. Here, a completely new way to achieve this goal is presented. A luminescent thin film, made from a chiral conjugated phenylene bis-thiophenylpropynone able to self-assemble into ordered structures, emits highly circularly polarized light with opposite handedness from its two opposite faces. Such emergent nonreciprocal behavior in CP emission, so far unprecedented, represents a fundamental advance, opening new opportunities in design, preparation, and applications of CP emitting materials.

Abstract
Moving from the simple concept that reflection onto a mirror surface changes the handedness of circularly polarized light, we describe what happens to the emergent polarization in two different cases after reflection on a back mirror. In the first case, a regular emitter is taken into account, where reflection has the effect to destroy the emergent polarization. In the second case, we show what could happen when a hypothetical apparently non-reciprocal emitting material undergoes a similar experiment. These simple concepts have important implications in the design of efficient circularly polarized emitting devices.

Abstract
A series of helical tetracenes and pentacenes was synthesized from cationic [6] and [4]helicene precursors. These colorful acenes fluoresce in the far red region. While [4]helicene-based pentacenes exhibit chiroptical properties mainly in the UV region, [6]helicene-derived tetracenes show enhanced ECD in the visible range, in addition to clear CPL responses. This difference is rationalized using first principles.

Abstract
Understanding structure-property relationships in multichromophoric molecular architectures is a crucial step in establishing new design principles in organic electronics as well as to fully understand how nature exploits solar energy. Here, we study the excited state dynamics of three bichromophores consisting of two perylene chromophores linked to three different crown-ether backbones, using stationary and ultrafast electronic spectroscopy combined with molecular dynamics simulations. The conformational space available to the bichromophores depends on the structure and geometry of the crown-ether and can be significantly changed upon cation binding, strongly affecting the excited-state dynamics. We show that, depending on the conformational restrictions and the local environment, the nature of the excited state varies greatly, going from an excimer to a symmetry-broken charge separated state. These results can be rationalised in terms of a structure-property relationship that includes the effect of the local environment.
