Abstract
The present study clarified the prognosis of intermediate-stage hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients who received lenvatinib (LEN) followed by transcatheter arterial chemoembolization (TACE) on demand. We retrospectively evaluated 88 intermediate-stage HCC patients who received LEN. The median age was 74 (range: 47-92) years old, 67 patients were male, and 82 were classified as Child-Pugh A. LEN was administered until disease progression or discontinuation due to adverse events (AEs). The mean duration of LEN treatment was 7.0 months. The response and disease control rates were 51.1% and 89.8%, respectively. The median progression-free survival and overall survival (OS) after the initiation of LEN were 6.8 months and 29.9 months, respectively. The OS in patients for whom LEN was re-administered after TACE (TACE-LEN) was better than that in patients who received other therapies (e.g., only TACE, TACE-other therapy, or only other therapy) even with propensity score matching (p = 0.008). A Cox proportional hazard analysis showed that TACE-LEN was most strongly associated with the OS (hazard ratio: 0.083, 95% confidence interval: 0.019-0.362, p = 0.001). LEN was administered for approximately 11.1 months after TACE. In intermediate-stage HCC patients who can tolerate LEN without discontinuation due to AEs, TACE-LEN may prolong the prognosis.

Abstract
BackgroundFalls are a serious event that can lead to disability and death. The use of hypnotics, anxiolytics, and antidepressants has been reported drugs associated with higher risk of falls. Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is associated with a high risk of falls, which is an important issue because it can lead to fractures. Patients with RA have a higher incidence of sleep disorders, depression, and anxiety disorders. They are likely to be prescribed fall risk medications.ObjectivesWe conducted a retrospective study of the incidence of falls in patients with RA, who are more prone to fractures and falls, using fall risk medications, especially hypnotics and anxiolytics, which aimed to determine the relationship between falls and fall risk medications in patients with RA.MethodsThis study is a retrospective cohort study conducted in Showa University Hospital between December 1, 2019 and March 31, 2020. We included of RA patients who visited the outpatient and fulfilled the American College of Rheumatology (ACR) /European League against Rheumatism (EULAR) classification 2010 criteria. The main exposure was the fall risk medication. The fall risk medication group was defined as RA patients who were prescribed fall risk medication (sedative/hypnotic, antidepressants, antipsychotics, and anxiolytic (benzodiazepines) drugs) for all the observational period. The comparison group was defined as RA patients who had never been prescribed any fall risk medications. Outcome measure was the prevalence of fall incidents in the past one year, obtained by using questionnaires to patients. Logistic regression analysis was performed to investigated the relationship between the prevalence of fall incidents and the use of fall-risk medications. The co-variables we selected were as follows: age, sex, stroke, dementia, diabetes and osteoarthritis as covariates.ResultsWe obtained data from 331 patients, of which 303 were included in the analysis. Among the 303 patients, the median age was 67 years (56-75), and 78.5% were women. Of the 303 patients, 45 patients used fall risk medication and 69 patients experienced at least one fall in a year. Of the 45 patients who used fall risk medication, 18 patients experienced at least one fall in a year. Of the 69 patients who experienced falls, 30 patients experienced twice or more falls in a year. Of the 18 patients who used fall risk medication and experienced falls, 9 patients experienced twice or more falls. 4 patients were admitted to the hospital as result of falls, 2 patients used fall risk medication. These results are shown as percentages in Figure 1. The group of fall risk medication was significantly higher than using non fall risk medication. Features of patients who developed hepatocellular carcinoma after direct-acting antiviral treatment for hepatitis C Virus. PLoS One 2022; 17:e0262267. Abstract
Background The features of hepatitis C virus patients with a sustained virologic response (SVR) who developed hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) after direct-acting antiviral (DAA) therapy are unclear. Methods The study population included 1494 DAA-SVR patients without a history of HCC. The cumulative carcinogenesis rate after the end of treatment (EOT) and factors related to HCC were analyzed. Results Sixty (4.0%) patients developed HCC during a median observation period of 47.6 months. At four years, the cumulative carcinogenesis rate was 4.7%. A Cox proportional hazards analysis showed that age ≥73 years (hazard ratio [HR]: 2.148), male sex (HR: 3.060), hyaluronic acid (HA) ≥75 ng/mL (HR: 3.996), alpha-fetoprotein at EOT (EOT-AFP) ≥5.3 ng/mL (HR: 4.773), and albumin at EOT (EOT-Alb) <3.9 g/dL (HR: 2.305) were associated with HCC development. Especially, EOT-AFP ≥5.3 ng/mL was associated with HCC development after 3 years from EOT (HR: 6.237). Among patients who developed HCC, AFP did not increase in patients with EOT-AFP <5.3 ng/mL at the onset of HCC. Of these 5 factors, EOT-AFP ≥5.3 ng/mL was scored as 2 points; the others were scored as 1 point. The 4-year cumulative carcinogenesis rate for patients with total scores of 0–2, 3–4, and 5–6 points were 0.6%, 11.9%, and 27.1%, respectively (p<0.001). Conclusions EOT-AFP ≥5.3 ng/mL is useful for predicting HCC development after an SVR. However, AFP does not increase in patients with EOT-AFP <5.3 ng/mL at the onset of HCC. The combination of EOT-AFP, age, sex, HA, and EOT-Alb is important for predicting carcinogenesis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIMS Direct-acting antivirals (DAAs) against hepatitis C virus (HCV) exert high anti-HCV activity and are expected to show anti-inflammatory effects associated with HCV elimination. Furthermore, hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is known to dedifferentiate from hypovascular tumors, such as dysplastic nodules or well-differentiated HCC, to hypervascular tumors. We therefore explored whether or not DAAs can suppress the growth and hypervascularization of hypovascular tumors. METHODS We enrolled 481 patients with HCV genotype 1 infection who were treated with Daclatasvir and Asunaprevir therapy. Of these, 29 patients had 33 hypovascular tumors, which were confirmed by contrast-enhanced MRI or CT before therapy. We prospectively analyzed the cumulative incidence of HCC, i.e. the growth or hypervascularization of hypovascular tumors, and compared the HCC development rates between patients with hypovascular tumors and those without any tumors. RESULTS The mean size of the hypovascular tumors was 11.3 mm. Twenty seven of 29 patients who achieved an SVR had 31 nodules, 19 of 31 nodules (61.3%) showed tumor growth or hypervascularization, and 12 (38.7%) nodules showed no change or improvement. The cumulative incidence rates of tumor growth or hypervascularization were 19.4% at 1 year, 36.0% at 2 years, 56.6% at 3 years, and 65.3% at 4 years. Among the patients who achieved a sustained virologic response, the cumulative HCC development rates of patients with hypovascular tumors was significantly higher than in those without any tumors. A Cox proportional hazard analysis showed that a history of HCC therapy, the presence of a hypovascular tumor, and AFP >4.6 ng/mL at the end of treatment were independent risk factors for HCC development. CONCLUSION Hypovascular tumors developed into HCC at a high rate despite the elimination of HCV by DAAs. As patients with hypovascular tumors were shown to have a high risk of HCC development, they should undergo strict HCC surveillance.

Abstract
We present a study on the possibility of searching for long-lived supersymmetric partners with the MoEDAL experiment at the LHC. MoEDAL is sensitive to highly ionising objects such as magnetic monopoles or massive (meta)stable electrically charged particles. We focus on prospects of directly detecting long-lived sleptons in a phenomenologically realistic model which involves an intermediate neutral long-lived particle in the decay chain. This scenario is not yet excluded by the current data from ATLAS or CMS, and is compatible with astrophysical constraints. Using Monte Carlo simulation, we compare the sensitivities of MoEDAL versus ATLAS in scenarios where MoEDAL could provide discovery reach complementary to ATLAS and CMS, thanks to looser selection criteria combined with the virtual absence of background. It is also interesting to point out that, in such scenarios, in which charged staus are the main long-lived candidates, the relevant mass range for MoEDAL is compatible with a potential role of Supersymmetry in providing an explanation for the anomalous events observed by the ANITA detector.

Abstract
Ectomesenchymal chondromyxoid tumour (ECT) is an extremely rare intraoral mesenchymal tumour. Most of these tumours have been identified on the anterior aspect of the dorsal surface of the tongue. ECT is difficult to diagnose because of its rarity. We report a case of ECT arising on the lateral border of the tongue in a 67-year-old woman. The tumour, measuring 20 × 10 mm in size, was surgically removed. Histopathologically, the tumour was composed of small polygonal cells arranged in sheets, with a myxoid or hyalinized stroma. The tumour boundary was clear; however, the tumour showed a multinodular structure expanding along the tongue surface without obvious capsule. Careful examination revealed the tumour nodule to be spreading in a skip lesion-like fashion away from the main part of the tumour in the striated muscle layer. Although there was no evidence of recurrence at 18 months after the surgery, our observations suggest that surgery for ECT resection with a safety margin is more appropriate than enucleation.

Abstract
AIM Direct-acting antiviral (DAA) therapy for hepatitis C virus is associated with high sustained virologic response rates. However, patients for whom DAA therapy fails acquire resistance-associated substitutions (RASs). We therefore evaluated the efficacy of DAA retreatment and factors associated with retreatment failure. METHODS Non-structural 5A RASs were investigated at the start of DAA therapy and at treatment failure in 64 patients with hepatitis C virus genotype 1b for whom DAA combination therapy had failed. A total of 59 patients were introduced to DAA retreatment. The factors associated with retreatment failure were investigated. RESULTS A total of 20 of 43 (46.5%) daclatasvir + asunaprevir-treated patients with virologic failure had no RASs at baseline, and three (15%) acquired P32 deletion RASs. Four of seven sofosbuvir/ledipasvir-treated patients with virologic failure had more than two RASs of NS5A at baseline. The sustained virologic response rates on retreatment were as follows: sofosbuvir/ledipasvir, 81.8%; with elbasvir + grazoprevir, 0%; and glecaprevir/pibrentasvir, 87.5%. Patients for whom sofosbuvir/ledipasvir or elbasvir + grazoprevir failed achieved sustained virologic response with glecaprevir/pibrentasvir. Two of three patients for whom glecaprevir/pibrentasvir retreatment failed had Q24/L28/R30 and A92K RASs; the other had P32 deletion RAS at baseline. Interestingly, 10 of 11 patients with retreatment failure had the interleukin (IL)-28B single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) minor allele. A multivariate analysis showed that the IL28B SNP minor allele (P = 0.005, odds ratio 28.291) was an independent risk factor for retreatment failure. CONCLUSIONS In addition to viral factors (e.g. Q24, L28, R30, and A92 or P32 deletion RASs), host factors (e.g. IL28B SNP) are associated with DAA retreatment failure.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Cribriform-morular variant (CMV) is a rare variant of papillary thyroid carcinoma. It frequently occurs in association with familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP), although some cases are sporadic. Herein, we report a case of CMV and analyse morule cytohistology. CASE REPORT The patient was a 47-year-old woman with no familial history of FAP. A 3.0-cm unifocal mass was identified in the left thyroidal lobe. Fine-needle aspiration cytology revealed papillary clusters of atypical cells with nuclear grooves, which was suspected to be conventional papillary thyroid carcinoma. Histologically, the tumour comprised a papillary and cribriform growth of atypical cells with cytoplasmic accumulation and nuclear translocation of b-catenin. In addition, frequent morule formation was identified. DISCUSSION In this case, we performed morule analysis through correlative light and electron microscopy (CLEM), and revealed its ultrastructure. Although CMV is a rare form of thyroid carcinoma, it should be considered along with its distinct clinicopathological characteristics.

Background
Fluoine-18-fluorodeoxyglucose-positron emission tomography/computed tomography (FDG-PET/CT) is a useful modality of inflammatory disease. Epicardial adipose tissue (EAT) contains abundant ganglionated plexi, therefore EAT inflammation may cause atrial arrhythmia, such as atrial premature contraction (APC) and atrial fibrillation (AF). Previous studies have shown that inflammatory activity of EAT has relation to the presence of AF. However, it is unknown whether EAT inflammation contributes to the occurrence of AF.
Methods
Out of 20720 examinees who underwent FDG-PET/CT for screening of cancer in the years 2012–2018, 151 (aged 65.6±12.0 years old, 62 females) had ambulatory electrocardiographic monitoring (Holter ECG) within a year and non-detection of AF. Standardized uptake value (SUV) was measured in fat adjacent to roof of left atrium (ROOF), atrioventricular groove (AV), left main coronary artery (LMT), and right ventricular blood pool (RV). In order to correct for blood pool activity, SUV of ROOF, AV, and LMT were divided by SUV of RV respectively, yielding target-to-background ratio (TBR). As regards to arterial inflammation, measurements were performed with SUV in ascending aorta (A-Ao) and in superior vena cava (SVC) as blood pool. In the same way, SUV of A-Ao was divided by SUV of SVC, yielding TBR.
Results
According to Holter ECG, APC≥100 beats per day was seen in 60 patients (Group A), but not in the other 91 (Group B). In Group A, TBR of ROOF, AV, and LMT were all significantly higher than Group B (p<0.001, p=0.004, and p=0.008, respectively). During a median follow-up of 179 days, new-onset AF was diagnosed in 7 patients (4 in Group A (6.7%), 3 in Group B (3.3%), p=0.046). There was significant difference in TBR of ROOF between patients with and without new-onset AF (p<0.001), but not in TBR of AV and LMT. In addition, no significant difference was observed in TBR of A-Ao between these two groups. In the Cox proportional hazard analysis, TBR of ROOF was found to be an independent predictor of new-onset AF (odds ratio 40.1, 95% confidence interval 6.05 to 265.9, p<0.001).
Conclusions
Although EAT inflammation evaluated by SUV is related to frequent APCs, only in fat adjacent to roof of left atrium is associated with and predicts future occurrence of AF. Arterial inflammation measured by SUV has no relation to atrial arrhythmia.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Functional dyspepsia (FD), a heterogeneous disorder, involves multiple pathogenetic mechanisms. Developing treatments for FD has been challenging. We performed a randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blind clinical trial to determine the efficacy of rikkunshito, a Japanese herbal medicine, in FD patients. METHODS FD patients (n = 192) who met the Rome III criteria without Helicobacter pylori infection, predominant heartburn, and depression were enrolled at 56 hospitals in Japan. After 2 weeks of single-blind placebo treatment, 128 patients with continuous symptoms were randomly assigned to 8 weeks of rikkunshito (n = 64) or placebo (n = 61). The primary efficacy endpoint was global assessment of overall treatment efficacy (OTE). The secondary efficacy endpoints were improvements in upper gastrointestinal symptoms evaluated by the Patient Assessment of Upper Gastrointestinal Disorders-Symptom Severity Index (PAGI-SYM), the Global Overall Symptom scale (GOS), and the modified Frequency Scale for the Symptoms of Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (m-FSSG), and psychological symptoms evaluated by the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS). KEY RESULTS Rikkunshito increased OTE compared to placebo at 8 weeks (P = .019). Rikkunshito improved upper gastrointestinal symptoms (PAGI-SYM, GOS, and m-FSSG) at 8 weeks, especially postprandial fullness/early satiety (P = .015 and P = .001) and bloating (P = .007 and P = .002) of the PAGI-SYM subscales at 4 weeks and 8 weeks. Improvement of HADS at 8 weeks (P = .027) correlated with those of PAGI-SYM (r = .302, P = .001), GOS (r = .186, P = .044), and m-FSSG (r = .462, P < .001), postprandial fullness/early satiety (r = .226, P = .014), dyspepsia (r = .215, P = .019), and PDS (r = .221, P = .016). CONCLUSION & INFERENCES Rikkunshito may be beneficial for FD patients to simultaneously treat gastrointestinal and psychological symptoms.

Abstract
The structural basis for the intracellular delivery of OSW-1 is investigated using fluorescent derivatives of OSW-1 and its closely related congeners. Despite the large differences in activity, all the fluorescent probes are found to translocate across the plasma membrane to the ER and Golgi apparatus. This observation suggests that the glycosylated cholestane moiety plays an important role in the cell internalization and intracellular localization property of OSW-1.

Abstract
We use MasterCode to perform a frequentist analysis of the constraints on a phenomenological MSSM model with 11 parameters, the pMSSM11, including constraints from ∼ 36 /fb of LHC data at 13 TeV and PICO, XENON1T and PandaX-II searches for dark matter scattering, as well as previous accelerator and astrophysical measurements, presenting fits both with and without the ( g - 2 ) μ constraint. The pMSSM11 is specified by the following parameters: 3 gaugino masses M 1 , 2 , 3 , a common mass for the first-and second-generation squarks m q ~ and a distinct third-generation squark mass m q ~ 3 , a common mass for the first-and second-generation sleptons m ℓ ~ and a distinct third-generation slepton mass m τ ~ , a common trilinear mixing parameter A, the Higgs mixing parameter μ , the pseudoscalar Higgs mass M A and tan β . In the fit including ( g - 2 ) μ , a Bino-like χ ~ 1 0 is preferred, whereas a Higgsino-like χ ~ 1 0 is mildly favoured when the ( g - 2 ) μ constraint is dropped. We identify the mechanisms that operate in different regions of the pMSSM11 parameter space to bring the relic density of the lightest neutralino, χ ~ 1 0 , into the range indicated by cosmological data. In the fit including ( g - 2 ) μ , coannihilations with χ ~ 2 0 and the Wino-like χ ~ 1 ± or with nearly-degenerate first- and second-generation sleptons are active, whereas coannihilations with the χ ~ 2 0 and the Higgsino-like χ ~ 1 ± or with first- and second-generation squarks may be important when the ( g - 2 ) μ constraint is dropped. In the two cases, we present χ 2 functions in two-dimensional mass planes as well as their one-dimensional profile projections and best-fit spectra. Prospects remain for discovering strongly-interacting sparticles at the LHC, in both the scenarios with and without the ( g - 2 ) μ constraint, as well as for discovering electroweakly-interacting sparticles at a future linear e + e - collider such as the ILC or CLIC.

Abstract
This prospective study aimed to estimate the efficacy of sorafenib therapy after transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) for unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Between July 2011 and March 2013, 17 patients were enrolled, 11 of whom received sorafenib therapy. Patients who previously received TACE for HCC and whose disease progressed within a six-month period were given 400-800 mg sorafenib orally, once or twice daily, within the 3 weeks after a second TACE (sorafenib after TACE group). The response to treatment, time to progression (TTP), overall survival (OS), and adverse events (AEs) were recorded. Of the 113 patients who underwent initial TACE for unresectable HCC between January 1995 and January 2013, 23 patients were selected who were treated with TACE alone, and for whom the interval between the second and third TACE treatments was <6 months (TACE alone group). The interval (TTP) was calculated between the third and fourth TACE treatments, then TTP was compared among the three groups: Sorafenib after TACE for > or <4 months; and TACE alone. During a median follow-up period of 34.4 months (range, 5.9-51.7 months) in both groups receiving sorafenib after TACE, sorafenib prolonged TTP (3.9 months) and OS (34.4 months). It was demonstrated that sorafenib use for >4 months prolonged TTP (5.7 months) significantly compared with use for <4 months (3.0 months) (P=0.002). The OS of patients given sorafenib for >4 months (35.9 months) was longer than that of patients who received the drug for <4 months (17.2 months), but this difference was not significant. In the TACE alone group, the median TTP between the third and fourth TACE treatments was 4.3 months. TTP decreased among the groups in the following order: Sorafenib for >4 months, TACE alone, and sorafenib for <4 months. There were three AEs of grade 3 in the present study. Two patients demonstrated a decrease in liver reserve function following sorafenib treatment, but improved immediately after sorafenib administration was stopped. Sorafenib induction early after TACE for unresectable HCC was generally well tolerated and significantly improved TTP. Further studies are required to confirm the safety and efficacy of this combination therapy.

Abstract
A novel fluorescent photoaffinity probe of OSW-1 was prepared in two steps from a naturally occurring inactive congener by a sequential site-selective acylation strategy using Me2SnCl2. It displayed highly potent anticancer activity and a similar intracellular localization property to that of a fluorescently-tagged OSW-1, thereby demonstrating its potential utility in live cell studies.

Abstract
Percutaneous radiofrequency ablation (RFA) combined with transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) is an effective, standard therapy against small hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, there is debate regarding the effectiveness of RFA combined with TACE (RFA/TACE) compared with RFA alone. These two approaches were compared for the treatment of early HCC. The present study examined 83 HCC tumors in 83 patients treated with RFA between April 2007 and August 2014 at three medical institutions. All HCCs were single hypervascular tumors, with a median diameter of 16 mm (range, 6-30 mm). The overall survival (OS) rate of all patients (n=83) was 97.5% at 1 year, 82.8% at 3 years and 48.6% at 5 years, and the local recurrence rate of all patients was 14.3% at 1 year, 32.3% at 3 years and 36.5% at 5 years. The tumor-free survival (TFS) rate of all patients was 95.1% at 1 year, 56.3% at 3 years and 23.4% at 5 years. Compared with RFA alone, RFA/TACE significantly improved OS (P<0.001), intrahepatic distant recurrence (IDR; P=0.038) and TFS (P=0.010). A univariate analysis of prognostic indicators revealed that age <70 years (P=0.008), aspartate transaminase <40 IU/l (P=0.003), alanine aminotransferase <40 IU/l (P=0.006) and platelet count >10×104/µl (P=0.05) were associated with a high survival rate. Multivariate analysis identified RFA/TACE [hazard ratio (HR), 0.108; P=0.001] as an independent prognostic indicator. RFA/TACE was identified as the only independent indicator of IDR (HR: 0.467; P=0.042) and TFS (HR: 0.452; P=0.012). RFA/TACE improved OS rate, IDR and TFS compared with RFA alone. The data suggested that RFA/TACE should be considered for the treatment of single hypervascular HCC.

Abstract
We perform a likelihood analysis of the minimal anomaly-mediated supersymmetry-breaking (mAMSB) model using constraints from cosmology and accelerator experiments. We find that either a wino-like or a Higgsino-like neutralino LSP, [Formula: see text], may provide the cold dark matter (DM), both with similar likelihoods. The upper limit on the DM density from Planck and other experiments enforces [Formula: see text] after the inclusion of Sommerfeld enhancement in its annihilations. If most of the cold DM density is provided by the [Formula: see text], the measured value of the Higgs mass favours a limited range of [Formula: see text] (and also for [Formula: see text] if [Formula: see text]) but the scalar mass [Formula: see text] is poorly constrained. In the wino-LSP case, [Formula: see text] is constrained to about [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] to [Formula: see text], whereas in the Higgsino-LSP case [Formula: see text] has just a lower limit [Formula: see text] ([Formula: see text]) and [Formula: see text] is constrained to [Formula: see text] in the [Formula: see text] ([Formula: see text]) scenario. In neither case can the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon, [Formula: see text], be improved significantly relative to its Standard Model (SM) value, nor do flavour measurements constrain the model significantly, and there are poor prospects for discovering supersymmetric particles at the LHC, though there are some prospects for direct DM detection. On the other hand, if the [Formula: see text] contributes only a fraction of the cold DM density, future LHC [Formula: see text]-based searches for gluinos, squarks and heavier chargino and neutralino states as well as disappearing track searches in the wino-like LSP region will be relevant, and interference effects enable [Formula: see text] to agree with the data better than in the SM in the case of wino-like DM with [Formula: see text].

Abstract
We perform a likelihood analysis of the constraints from accelerator experiments and astrophysical observations on supersymmetric (SUSY) models with SU(5) boundary conditions on soft SUSY-breaking parameters at the GUT scale. The parameter space of the models studied has seven parameters: a universal gaugino mass [Formula: see text], distinct masses for the scalar partners of matter fermions in five- and ten-dimensional representations of SU(5), [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text], and for the [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] Higgs representations [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text], a universal trilinear soft SUSY-breaking parameter [Formula: see text], and the ratio of Higgs vevs [Formula: see text]. In addition to previous constraints from direct sparticle searches, low-energy and flavour observables, we incorporate constraints based on preliminary results from 13 TeV LHC searches for jets + [Formula: see text] events and long-lived particles, as well as the latest PandaX-II and LUX searches for direct Dark Matter detection. In addition to previously identified mechanisms for bringing the supersymmetric relic density into the range allowed by cosmology, we identify a novel [Formula: see text] coannihilation mechanism that appears in the supersymmetric SU(5) GUT model and discuss the role of [Formula: see text] coannihilation. We find complementarity between the prospects for direct Dark Matter detection and SUSY searches at the LHC.

Abstract
We investigated whether there is a trade-off between magnitude of perceived depth and that of perceived motion, using density changes (expansion/contraction) in a random-dot pattern yoked to lateral head movements. We simulated sine-wave surfaces with a depth of 0, 1, 2, 4, 8, and 16 cm. Subjects viewed the patterns monocularly while moving their heads from side to side laterally, and reported the magnitude of perceived depth and that of perceived motion. When simulated depth was less than 4 cm, the surfaces looked stationary and the amount of perceived depth was the same as that of simulated depth. When it was more than 4 cm, the surfaces appeared to move in a rocking motion and the amount of perceived depth was smaller than that of simulated depth. The trade-off implies a mechanism which transduces single visual input into depth or motion.

Abstract
Different mechanisms operate in various regions of the MSSM parameter space to bring the relic density of the lightest neutralino, [Formula: see text], assumed here to be the lightest SUSY particle (LSP) and thus the dark matter (DM) particle, into the range allowed by astrophysics and cosmology. These mechanisms include coannihilation with some nearly degenerate next-to-lightest supersymmetric particle such as the lighter stau [Formula: see text], stop [Formula: see text] or chargino [Formula: see text], resonant annihilation via direct-channel heavy Higgs bosons H / A, the light Higgs boson h or the Z boson, and enhanced annihilation via a larger Higgsino component of the LSP in the focus-point region. These mechanisms typically select lower-dimensional subspaces in MSSM scenarios such as the CMSSM, NUHM1, NUHM2, and pMSSM10. We analyze how future LHC and direct DM searches can complement each other in the exploration of the different DM mechanisms within these scenarios. We find that the [Formula: see text] coannihilation regions of the CMSSM, NUHM1, NUHM2 can largely be explored at the LHC via searches for [Formula: see text] events and long-lived charged particles, whereas their H / A funnel, focus-point and [Formula: see text] coannihilation regions can largely be explored by the LZ and Darwin DM direct detection experiments. We find that the dominant DM mechanism in our pMSSM10 analysis is [Formula: see text] coannihilation: parts of its parameter space can be explored by the LHC, and a larger portion by future direct DM searches.

Abstract
We present a frequentist analysis of the parameter space of the pMSSM10, in which the following ten soft SUSY-breaking parameters are specified independently at the mean scalar top mass scale [Formula: see text]: the gaugino masses [Formula: see text], the first-and second-generation squark masses [Formula: see text], the third-generation squark mass [Formula: see text], a common slepton mass [Formula: see text] and a common trilinear mixing parameter A, as well as the Higgs mixing parameter [Formula: see text], the pseudoscalar Higgs mass [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text], the ratio of the two Higgs vacuum expectation values. We use the MultiNest sampling algorithm with [Formula: see text]1.2 [Formula: see text] points to sample the pMSSM10 parameter space. A dedicated study shows that the sensitivities to strongly interacting sparticle masses of ATLAS and CMS searches for jets, leptons [Formula: see text][Formula: see text] signals depend only weakly on many of the other pMSSM10 parameters. With the aid of the Atom and Scorpion codes, we also implement the LHC searches for electroweakly interacting sparticles and light stops, so as to confront the pMSSM10 parameter space with all relevant SUSY searches. In addition, our analysis includes Higgs mass and rate measurements using the HiggsSignals code, SUSY Higgs exclusion bounds, the measurements of [Formula: see text] by LHCb and CMS, other B-physics observables, electroweak precision observables, the cold dark matter density and the XENON100 and LUX searches for spin-independent dark matter scattering, assuming that the cold dark matter is mainly provided by the lightest neutralino [Formula: see text]. We show that the pMSSM10 is able to provide a supersymmetric interpretation of [Formula: see text], unlike the CMSSM, NUHM1 and NUHM2. As a result, we find (omitting Higgs rates) that the minimum [Formula: see text] with 18 degrees of freedom (d.o.f.) in the pMSSM10, corresponding to a [Formula: see text] probability of 30.8 %, to be compared with [Formula: see text] in the CMSSM (NUHM1) (NUHM2). We display the one-dimensional likelihood functions for sparticle masses, and we show that they may be significantly lighter in the pMSSM10 than in the other models, e.g., the gluino may be as light as [Formula: see text]1250 [Formula: see text] at the 68 % CL, and squarks, stops, electroweak gauginos and sleptons may be much lighter than in the CMSSM, NUHM1 and NUHM2. We discuss the discovery potential of future LHC runs, [Formula: see text] colliders and direct detection experiments.

Abstract
Type 2 diabetes results from the failure of beta-cells to adequately compensate for insulin resistance. Although the reduction of beta-cell mass is because of increased cell death and/or inadequate replication or neogenesis, the mechanism underlying beta-cell mass reduction is not fully understood. Here, we clarify the role of insulin signaling pathway in the beta-cell apoptosis using insulin resistant model mice. Wild-type mice and those carrying a mutation in the insulin receptor (mIR) were fed either regular chow or a high-fat diet for 6 weeks and subsequently investigated for beta-cell apoptosis, endoplasmic reticulum stress, and oxidative stress. Insulin tolerance tests revealed that mIR mice fed a high-fat diet (mIRHF) had higher insulin resistance. Beta-cell apoptosis was increased 2-fold in the wild-type mice fed a high-fat diet (wHF) compared with control mice, whereas beta-cell apoptosis in mIRHF mice did not increase compared with that in mIR mice. The expression of endoplasmic reticulum stress markers in isolated islets did not differ between the groups. Staining of 8-hydroxy-2'-deoxyguanosine and 4-hydroxy-2-nonenal in islets of wHF mice significantly increased, but the staining in mIRHF mice was not different from that in control group. Gene expression of the antioxidant enzyme MnSOD was significantly higher in mIRHF mice than those in the other 3 groups. A mutation in the insulin receptor attenuated the oxidative stress and apoptosis in beta-cells even though high caloric nutrient was loaded. Our results suggest that reduced insulin signaling protects beta-cells thorough decline of oxidative stress.

Abstract
In Cambodia, groundwater has been contaminated with arsenic, and purification of the water is an urgent issue. From 2010 to 2012, an international collaborative project between Japan and Cambodia for developing arsenic-removing technology from well water was conducted and supported by the foundation of New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization, Japan. Quality of well water was surveyed in Kandal, Prey Veng, and Kampong Cham Provinces, and a monitoring trial of the arsenic removal equipment using our patented amorphous iron (hydr)oxide adsorbent was performed. Of the 37 wells surveyed, arsenic concentration of 24 exceeded the Cambodian guideline value (50 μg L(-1)), and those of 27 exceeded the WHO guideline for drinking water (10 μg L(-1)). Levels of arsenic were extremely high in some wells (>1,000-6,000 μg L(-1)), suggesting that arsenic pollution of groundwater is serious in these areas. Based on the survey results, 16 arsenic removal equipments were installed in six schools, three temples, two health centers, four private houses, and one commune office. Over 10 months of monitoring, the average arsenic concentrations of the treated water were between 0 and 10 μg L(-1) at four locations, 10-50 μg L(-1) at eight locations, and >50 μg L(-1) at four locations. The arsenic removal rate ranged in 83.1-99.7%, with an average of 93.8%, indicating that the arsenic removal equipment greatly lower the risk of arsenic exposure to the residents. Results of the field trial showed that As concentration of the treated water could be reduced to <10 µg L(-1) by managing the As removal equipment properly, suggesting that the amorphous iron (hydr)oxide adsorbent has high adsorbing capacity for As not only in the laboratory environment but also in the field condition. Abstract
We assessed the efficacy and safety of sitagliptin compared with α-glucosidase inhibitor (αGI) in 120 of Japanese patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) inadequately controlled on stable ≤2 mg/day glimepiride alone [mean hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) 7.7%] by the randomized, active-controlled, non-inferiority trial. Patients were randomly assigned to receive additional sitagliptin or αGI for 24 weeks. The primary endpoint was change in HbA1c from baseline to week 12. After 12 weeks, sitagliptin reduced HbA1c by -0.44% (p < 0.001) relative to αGI. At 24 weeks, the reduction was almost identical between the groups (-0.091%, p = 0.47). Gastrointestinal disorders were more common with αGI than with sitagliptin, but only minor hypoglycaemia occurred in both groups at similar frequency. These data suggested that sitagliptin was not inferior to αGI for reduction of HbA1c in Japanese T2DM patients receiving glimepiride alone, and well tolerated with minimum risk of gastrointestinal symptoms and hypoglycaemia.

Abstract
Clinical stage II/III esophageal cancer (EC), as defined by the Japanese Classification, relapses at a moderately high rate even after curative resection. The number of lymph node metastases is known to be associated with tumor relapse. Recently, the prognostic significance of occult metastatic lymph nodes (MLNs), as well as that of overt MLNs, has been reported. The aim of this study was to investigate the impact of the total number of MLNs including occult MLNs on postoperative relapse in clinical stage II/III EC. One hundred and five patients with clinical stage II/III EC who underwent esophagectomy accompanied by radical lymphadenectomy at the Department of Surgical Oncology in Osaka City University Hospital between January 2000 and October 2008 were included in this study. Occult MLNs, metastases not detected by hematoxylin-eosin staining, were identified by immunohistochemistry (IHC) using antipancytokeratin antibody AE1/AE3. The clinicopathological features of occult MLNs were compared between the relapse and no relapse groups. A total of 6558 lymph nodes (1357 from two-field dissection and 5201 from three-field dissection) were examined by IHC staining; 362 overt MLNs and 143 occult MLNs were detected. The number of occult MLNs increased in proportion to the International Union Against Cancer pathological (p)N-status and pStage. When the number of occult MLNs was added to the number of pNs, the number of total MLNs was associated with postoperative relapse. With respect to tumor, node, metastasis stage, 6 of 22 patients (27%) who were pathological node-negative converted to node-positive by considering total MLNs. The number of N3 patients with relapse increased markedly with restaging by total MLNs. The number of total MLNs, but not overt MLNs, was an independent prognostic factor on multivariate analysis. These results suggest that occult MLNs were often found, and they were associated with postoperative relapse of resectable esophageal cancer. The total number of MLNs including occult MLNs could contribute to evaluating the precise stage of patients with esophageal cancer.

Abstract
Dissimilatory As(V) (arsenate)-reducing bacteria may play an important role in arsenic release from anoxic sediments in the form of As(III) (arsenite). Although respiratory arsenate reductase genes (arrA) closely related to Geobacter species have been frequently detected in arsenic-rich sediments, it is still unclear whether they directly participate in arsenic release, mainly due to lack of pure cultures capable of arsenate reduction. In this study, we isolated a novel dissimilatory arsenate-reducing bacterium, strain OR-1, from Japanese paddy soil, and found that it was phylogenetically closely related to Geobacter pelophilus. OR-1 also utilized soluble Fe(III), ferrihydrite, nitrate, and fumarate as electron acceptors. OR-1 catalyzed dissolution of arsenic from arsenate-adsorbed ferrihydrite, while Geobacter metallireducens GS-15 did not. Furthermore, inoculation of washed cells of OR-1 into sterilized paddy soil successfully restored arsenic release. Arsenic K-edge X-ray absorption near-edge structure analysis revealed that strain OR-1 reduced arsenate directly on the soil solid phase. Analysis of putative ArrA sequences from paddy soils suggested that Geobacter-related bacteria, including those closely related to OR-1, play an important role in arsenic release from paddy soils. Our results provide direct evidence for arsenic dissolution by Geobacter species and support the hypothesis that Geobacter species play a significant role in reduction and mobilization of arsenic in flooded soils and anoxic sediments.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This study investigated oxidative stress in the liver, by determining hepatic expression and serum levels of γ-glutamyltranspeptidase (GGT) and 8-hydroxy-2'-deoxyguanosine (8-OHdG) in different stages of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), and assessed whether GGT can differentiate between the various stages of NAFLD. METHODS Expression of GGT and 8-OHdG was examined in biopsy specimens by immunohistochemistry, and serum GGT and 8-OHdG levels were measured by enzyme-linked immuno sorbent assays in patients with simple fatty liver (n = 10), nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH; n = 10) and, as a control, in alcoholic liver disease (ALD; n = 10). RESULTS Hepatic tissue expression of GGT and 8-OHdG was seen in ALD, NASH and fatty liver patients. The percentage of hepatocytes positive for 8-OHdG expression and serum 8-OHdG levels was significantly higher in patients with NASH than simple fatty liver. Serum GGT levels were increased in all cases with ALD, NASH and fatty liver, and correlated significantly with serum levels of 8-OHdG in ALD and NASH, but not in simple fatty liver. CONCLUSIONS Levels of GGT in fatty liver patients may compensate for mild oxidative stress by repressing 8-OHdG levels and preventing progression to NASH; however further oxidative stress leads to increased levels of 8-OHdG and the development of NASH.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Nulliparity is believed to be one of the risk factors for hypertension during pregnancy. However, the relationship between parity and out-of-clinic blood pressure during pregnancy is still unknown. OBJECTIVES The aim of this study was to evaluate clinic blood pressure and blood pressure measured at home during pregnancy among nulliparous and multiparous women. METHODS This study was a prospective cohort study. We examined blood pressure measured in the clinic and at home among 530 normotensive pregnant women who received antenatal care at a maternity hospital in Japan. Clinic blood pressures were obtained by duplicate measurements at each antenatal care visit. The participants were also required to measure their own blood pressures every morning at home while they were pregnant. A linear mixed model was used for analysis of the blood pressure course throughout pregnancy [1]. The SAS package (version 9.2) was used for the statistical analyses. RESULTS A total of 315 nulliparous and 215 multiparous women were entered into this study (mean ages 30.1±4.6years and 33.0±4.1years, respectively). Clinic blood pressure during pregnancy among nulliparous women was significantly higher than that among multiparous women (P=0.02/P<0.0001 for systolic/diastolic blood pressure), whereas there were no significant differences in blood pressure measured at home during pregnancy between them (P=0.42/P=0.22 for systolic/diastolic blood pressure). CONCLUSION Out-of-clinic blood pressure levels during pregnancy have been shown not to differ between nulliparous and multiparous women, while clinic blood pressure during pregnancy among nulliparous women is higher than that among multiparous women.

Abstract
Ce-TZP/Al2O3 nanocomposite (NANOZR) has not only higher strength, but also higher fracture toughness than conventional Y-TZP, indicating its potential for use in dental implants. Surface treatment to obtain osseointegration, however, may alter its surface topography, thus affecting the cyclic fatigue strength that plays such an important role in the durability of this material. The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of surface treatment on cyclic fatigue strength in NANOZR as compared with grit-blasted and acid-etched Y-TZP (125BE Y-TZP). Bi-axial flexure strength was measured in both static and cyclic fatigue tests, as recommended by ISO 6872. The cyclic fatigue test was performed by the staircase method in distilled water at 37°C, with a load of 106 cycles and 10 Hz. Bi-axial flexure strength of NANOZR was 1111-1237 MPa and 667-881 MPa in the static and cyclic fatigue tests, respectively. The bi-axial flexure strength of NANOZR under all conditions was greater than that of 125BE Y-TZP in the static and cyclic fatigue tests. The cyclic fatigue strength of NANOZR was more than twice that of Y-TZP as specified in ISO 13356 for surgical implants (320 MPa), indicating the promise of this material for use in dental implants.

Abstract
SUMMARY IgG4-related disease is characterized by histologic fibrosis with IgG4-positive plasma cell infiltration. Our study evaluated MR imaging features of IgG4-related disease in the head and neck and brain. Images from 15 patients were retrospectively evaluated for the location, signal intensity, and enhancement patterns of lesions. Lacrimal gland enlargement was observed in 8 cases. Other lesions included orbital pseudotumor in 5, pituitary enlargement in 5, and cranial nerve enlargement in 7; the infraorbital nerve was involved in 4. All lesions were hypointense on T2-weighted images, which is typical for IgG4-related lesions. Multiple sites were involved in the head and neck and brain in 11 patients. The diagnosis of IgG4-related disease should be considered in a patient presenting with T2 hypointense lacrimal gland, pituitary, or cranial nerve enlargement, or a T2 hypointense orbital mass, especially if multiple sites in the head and neck are involved in the presence of elevated serum IgG4.

Abstract
Motivated by evidence for the existence of dark matter, many new physics models predict the pair production of new particles, followed by the decays into two invisible particles, leading to a momentum imbalance in the visible system. For the cases where all four components of the vector sum of the two "missing" momenta are measured from the momentum imbalance, we present analytic solutions of the final state system in terms of measurable momenta, with the mass shell constraints taken into account. We then introduce new variables which allow the masses involved in the new physics process, including that of the dark matter particles, to be extracted efficiently. These are compared with a selection of variables in the literature, and possible applications at lepton and hadron colliders are discussed.

Abstract
Background: It was recently reported that the transcription factor Forkhead box P3
(FoxP3) is expressed not only in regulatory T cells (Tregs) but also in
cancer cells. The aim of this study was to clarify the clinical significance
of FoxP3 expression in gastric carcinoma. Methods: We performed immunohistochemical staining of FoxP3 to examine the association
of FoxP3 expression with clinicopathological features of 194 patients with
gastric cancer who underwent surgical resection from 2000 to 2010. We also
investigated the immunosuppressive function of FoxP3 using gastric cancer
cell lines. Results: Immunohistochemical staining indicated FoxP3-positive cells within tumour
tissue including both Tregs and tumour cells. Forkhead box P3-positive
tumour cells were observed in 79.3% of signet ring cell carcinoma
patients, and the expression of FoxP3 showed a significant correlation with
lymph node metastasis. We showed that transforming growth
factor-β augmented FoxP3 mRNA expression in cell lines
derived from signet ring cell carcinoma. Indoleamine-2,3-dioxygenase and
galectin-1, key effectors of Treg-mediated immunosuppression, were
downregulated by FoxP3 knockdown. Conclusion: Our findings suggested that FoxP3 expression by tumour cells might have
important roles in immune escape of gastric carcinoma, and be associated
with the malignant potential of scirrhous gastric carcinoma.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of chewing force on salivary stress markers (alpha-amylase activity, salivary cortisol level and secretory immunoglobulin A secretion rate) as indicators of mental stress. Participants comprised 20 healthy men. The first set of saliva specimens (S1) was collected at immediately after a 20-min rest to evaluate stress markers. As stress loading, the participants were required to perform arithmetic calculations for 20 min, after which the second set of saliva specimens (S2) was collected. Each participant was then required to chew a piece of tasteless gum for 10 min, after which the third set of saliva specimens (S3) was collected. After a 20-min rest, the fourth set of saliva specimens (S4) was collected. Weak, habitual and strong chewing forces were assigned. Change rates of stress markers between S2 and S3, and S2 and S4 were calculated. A significant difference was observed in the change rate of cortisol levels between S2 and S3. Cortisol level decreased more under strong chewing than under weak chewing. No significant differences were observed in the change rate of amylase activity or s-IgA secretion rate among the three chewing forces. The results suggest that differences in chewing force influence the salivary cortisol level of the three stress markers, and that a strong chewing force induces a greater reduction in mental stress than a weak one.
