Background:
Trastuzumab and pertuzumab (HP) with standard chemotherapy is approved for use in the neoadjuvant setting. We performed a retrospective analysis of patients (pts) treated with dose-dense doxorubicin and cyclophosphamide (AC) → paclitaxel, trastuzumab, pertuzumab (THP) in the neoadjuvant setting. Here we report the pathologic complete response (pCR) rate.
Methods:
We abstracted medical records of patients who were treated with pertuzumab-based therapy in the neoadjuvant setting from September 1, 2013 to March 1, 2015. Charts were analyzed for pt demographics, stage of breast cancer, pathology reports, surgical data, and information on systemic therapy.
Results:
Charts from 66 pts were reviewed; 60 pts were evaluable for pCR defined as absence of invasive disease in the breast, and 6 were not (3-no anthracycline, 1-incomplete chart, 1-no surgery yet, 1-metastatic). Median age was 47 years (range 28-68 years). Of 60 pts, 52 (86%) had operable breast cancer (T1-3, N0-1, M0) of which 7 had clinical stage I disease (T1N0)]; 7 (12%) had locally advanced disease (T2-3, N2-3, M0 or T4a-c, any N, M0), and 1 (2%) had inflammatory breast cancer (T4d, any N, M0). 49 (82%) and 11 (18%) had hormone receptor (HR)-positive and negative diseases, respectively. All patients had HER2-positive breast cancer defined as immunohistochemistry (IHC) 3+ and/or fluorescent in-situ hybridization (FISH) of > 2.0. 30 pts (50%) underwent mastectomy and lumpectomy, respectively. Out of 60 evaluable pts, 41 (68%) had pCR; 32/49 (65%) with HR-positive and 9/11 (82%) with HR-negative diseases had pCR, respectively. Overall 58/60 (97%) pts completed neoadjuvant therapy; 2 did not (1 developed Steven Johnson Syndrome after one cycle of AC and 1 developed pneumonitis after third weekly dose of T with HP).
Conclusions:
At our single center experience the pCR rate of dose dense AC→THP is high at 68 %. These data are similar to results seen in the TRYPHAENA study, and we await the results from the BERENICE trial evaluating pCR as a secondary endpoint.

Abstract
Cigarettes, alcohol, junk food and motor vehicles cause a staggeringly high level of death, injury and disease. Business leaders from the industries that make these products currently try to frame these negative outcomes as 'collateral damage' that is someone else's problem. That framing is not only morally objectionable, but also overlooks the possibility that, with proper prodding, industry could substantially mitigate these public health disasters. A promising regulatory tool called 'performance-based regulation' is a new approach to combating the problem. Simply put, performance-based regulation would impose a legal obligation on manufacturers to reduce their negative social costs. Rather than suing the firms for damages, or telling them how they should run their businesses differently (as typical 'command and control' regimes do), performance-based regulation allows the firms to determine how best to decrease today's negative public health consequences. Like other public health strategies, performance-based regulation shifts the focus away from individual consumers on to those who are far more likely to achieve real public health gains. Analogous to a tax on causing harm that exceeds a threshold level, performance-based regulation seeks to harness private initiative in pursuit of the public good.

590 Background: CMF (C 600 mg/m2, M 40 mg/m2, F 600 mg/m2) is an option for adjuvant therapy for patients with low risk early stage breast cancer. DD regimens as predicted by mathematical models of cancer growth and treatment response are superior. We previously demonstrated the safety of DD EC (epirubicin/cyclophosphamide) followed by paclitaxel at 10–11 day (d) intervals. We investigated the feasibility of administering DD adjuvant CMF every 14 d and then every 10–11 d in a 2-stage phase II trial. Methods: An initial cohort (A) was treated q 14 d with PEG-filgrastim (Neulasta) support. A second cohort (B) was treated every 10–11 d with filgrastim/Neupogen x 5 d and then, based on feasibility, modified (cohort C) to use 7 d filgrastim. The primary end point was feasibility defined as having ANC > 1.5 x 103/uL on day 1 of planned treatment for all 8 cycles with no grade 3 or higher non-hematologic toxicity. All three cohorts were tested using a Simon's two-stage optimal design with type I and type II errors set at 10%. This design would effectively discriminate between true tolerability (as protocol-defined) rates of< 60% and> 80%. Cohort A: 38 pts with early stage breast cancer were accrued from 3/2008 though 6/2008. Cohort B: 7 pts were accrued from June 2008 through August 2008. Cohort C: Is still open with 16 pts accrued from August 2008 through December 5, 2008. Results: Median age 51: range 38 to 78. Cohort A: 29/38 pts completed 8 cycles of CMF. The regimen was considered feasible. 2 other pts completed 7 cycles and were withdrawn for depression and grade 2 transaminitis. The 7 other pts completed between 1 and 6 cycles of CMF were withdrawn as follows: 3 personal, 1 (grade 3) bone pain, 2 allergy unrelated to CMF, and 1 seizure. Cohort B: 7 pts were accrued. 6 out of 7 pts could not complete 8 cycles of chemotherapy secondary to neutropenia and 1 secondary to grade 3 ALT elevation. Cohort C: Accrual has not been completed. 16 pts are currently enrolled. Conclusions: Dose dense adjuvant CMF is feasible at 14 d intervals with PEG-filgrastim support. Adjuvant CMF every 10–11 days with filgrastim given for 5 days beginning day 2 is not feasible. Accrual is ongoing for CMF at 10–11 days with filgrastim x 7 days. Background: DD q 2 weekly (w) AC → P + T x 1 year (y) has an acceptable safely profile w/ congestive heart failure (CHF) rate of 1/70 pts (Dang, JCO 2008). Lapatinib (L) is effective in HER2 (+) BC. We conducted a pilot study of dd AC → w P + T + L to determine its feasibility and cardiac safety.
 Methods: Enrolled pts had HER2 (+) BC; LVEF > 50%. Rx consisted of AC at 60/600 mg/m2 x 4 q 2 w (w/ pegfilgrastim 6 mg day 2) → P at 80 mg/m2 x 12 q w + T x 1 y; L (1000 mg daily beginning w/ P + T and continued x 1 y). MUGA is obtained at baseline and at months (mo) 2, 6, 9, and 18. Rx is considered feasible if 1) > 80% pts can complete the PTL phase without a dose delay or reduction and 2) the cardiac event rate (CHF or cardiac death) is < 4%. Pts can remain on-Rx w/ one dose reduction of L (1000 mg → 750 mg) for a G 3 event or < G 3 toxicity (unacceptable).
 Results: From March 2007 to April 2008, we enrolled 95 pts. Median (med) age was 45 years (range, 28-73). At a med follow-up of 7 months, 90 are evaluable. Of the 90 pts, 34 (37%) withdrew from study during the PTL phase; 29 for a 2nd event of G 3 or unacceptable < G 3 toxicities (15 G 3 diarrhea, 4 G 1/2 diarrhea, 1 G 3 rash, 2 G 2 rash, 1 G 3 dyspnea and also had G 3 diarrhea, 1 G 3 ↑QTc also had G 3 diarrhea, 1 G 3 ↑ALT also had G 3 diarrhea, 1 G 3 paronychia, 1 G 3 pneumonitis, 1 asymptomatic LVEF ↓, 1 myocarditis) and 5 for other reasons (2 personal reason, 1 PCP pneumonia, 1 progression, 1 P hypersensitivity). Overall, 25/90 (27%) pts had G 3 diarrhea and 31/90 (34%) pts required a dose reduction of lapatinib. Med LVEF at baseline is 67% (N=95), at mo 2 is 68% (N=90), at mo 6 is 65% (N=53), and mo 9 is 65% (N=28). To date there are no patient drop-outs due to significant LVEF declines after dd AC; one patient dropped during PTL out due to an asymptomatic LVEF decline.
 Discussion: L at 1000 mg/day is not feasible combined w/ weekly P and T by protocol stipulation (> 20% pts required L dose reduction) primarily due to excessive G 3 diarrhea. These results have led to the modification of Design 2 (Arm D) of ALTTO. We will report updated results.

Abstract
567 Background: Dose dense, q2 wk AC-paclitaxel (T) is superior to q3 wk therapy (Rx) (Citron, JCO 2003). The risk of congestive heart failure (CHF) with ddAC-T is not increased at <1%. In MBC, B improves PFS when added to T (Miller, SABCS 2005). It is unclear if doxorubicin plus B increases risk of CHF. Hence, we are testing the cardiac safety of ddAC-nab-p with concurrent B as adj therapy. Based upon the accepted cardiac event (CE) rate of ≤4% in trials with adj trastuzumab (an agent with known cardiac toxicity), we designed this study with similar monitoring & tolerability thresholds. The primary endpoint is cardiac safety, defined as discontinuation of B due to cardiac death from LV dysfunction or symptomatic CHF (dyspnea and LVEF<50%). Secondary endpoints: toxicity, disease-free & overall survival. Methods: Eligible pts have resected HER2(-) BC and normal LVEF. Rx consists of q2wk AC (60/600 mg/m2) ×4 then nab-p (260 mg/m2) x4 with pegfilgrastim on Day 2 plus B for one year (10mg/kg IV q2wk ×8 with chemoRx then B 15mg/kg q3wk); radiation & endocrine Rx per standard of care. MUGA obtained at baseline & mos. 2, 6, 9, 18. Pts with significant asymptomatic ↓LVEF during Rx may have B held per protocol. These pts are not counted as CEs but will have long-term cardiac monitoring. Accrual goal is 75 pts. If ≥3 CE (∼4.7%) or >1 cardiac death from LV dysfunction, B + ddAC-nab-p will not be considered safe. Results: 44 pts have enrolled, median (med) age 46.5 yrs (33–67). 28 pts have baseline & month 2 LVEF data: med baseline LVEF 68% (61–82), med LVEF at mo. 2 after ddAC+B 68% (53–75); 1 pt had an 18 point asymptomatic drop to 53% - B held but reinitiated in 4 wks with repeat LVEF 63%. 12 pts completed nab-p+B but none have reached the 6 mo. MUGA. Rx-related Gr 3/4 toxicity: neutropenia gr4 (6.8%), diarrhea gr3 (2.3%), hypertension gr3 (2.3%), neuropathy gr 3 (2.3%), fatigue gr 3 (2.3%), mucositis gr 3 (2.3%). 4 pts have withdrawn from study Rx, but only 1 due to toxicity including gr3 fatigue, mucositis & neuropathy. Conclusions: No LV dysfunction has been observed with B + ddAC-nab-p; this trial is on-going. Long-term follow-up and analysis of troponin, renin and circulating endothelial & tumor cells are planned. No significant financial relationships to disclose.

582 Background: DD q 2 weekly (w) AC → T is superior to conventionally scheduled (cs) AC → T and safe w/long follow-up (Hudis et al, SABCS 2005). With q 3 wk AC, adjuvant (adj) H is safe and effective (Romond et al and Perez et al, NEJM 2005). We therefore tested DD q 2 w AC → T + H × 1 year (y) as adj treatment (Rx) of patients (pts) with HER2/neu (+) BCA to determine cardiac safety. Based on the reported cardiac event (CE) rate of ≤ 4% in the randomized trials using cs chemotherapy (CRx) + H, we evaluated DD q 2 w AC → T + H with a 1° endpoint of cardiac safety defined as discontinuation (DC) of H due to 1) cardiac death or 2) congestive heart failure (CHF). The 2° endpoint is time to recurrence and overall survival. Methods: Pts with HER2/Neu IHC 3+ or FISH-amplified BCA were enrolled, regardless of tumor size or nodal status. Rx consisted of AC at 60/600 mg/m2 × 4 → T at 175 mg/m2 × 4 q 2 w w/pegfilgrastim 6 mg on d 2 + H × 1 y. Multi-gated radionuclide angiography scan (MUGA) is obtained at baseline and at months (mo) 2 (after AC × 4), 6 (after T × 4), 9, and 18. Pts w/baseline LVEF of ≥ 55% and w/o cardiac illnesses are eligible. Pts w/significant (sig) asymptomatic (asx) LVEF ↓ after DD AC based on mo 2 MUGA did not receive H, and pts w/sig asx LVEF ↓ during H had it DC’d. If the CE rate is > 4%, Rx is deemed not feasible. Results: From January 4, 2005 to November 1, 2005, 70 pts were enrolled. Median (med) age is 49 years (range, 27–72). Forty one of 70 pts (60%) had node (+) BC and 27/70 pts (40%) had (-) nodes. Med baseline LVEF is 68% (range, 55%-81%). As of January 9, 2005, all pts had mo 2 MUGA after DD AC and there is no sig LVEF ↓ and the med LVEF is 67% (range, 58%-79%). To date 39 pts had mo 6 MUGA w/med LVEF of 66% (range, 56%-75%) and one pt had a sig asx LVEF ↓ from baseline of 74% to 56%; H was DC’d. Twenty-three pts had mo 9 MUGA w/a med LVEF of 64% (range, 57%-69%). One patient had clinical CHF at mo 4 w/EF of 45% and improved sig w/cardiac medications. One had pneumonitis during radiation (RT). One had atrial fibrillation w/pericarditis after completion of RT. Discussion: DD AC → T + H appears to have an acceptable cardiac toxicity profile w/1/70 pts having a CE. Updated cardiac safety data will be presented. [Table: see text]

PURPOSE This phase I biochemical modulation study evaluated the maximum-tolerated dose (MTD), toxicity, and effectiveness of the combination of folinic acid (FA)/fluorouracil (5-FU) followed by escalated dose levels of gemcitabine (FFG) in patients with advanced solid tumors. PATIENTS AND METHODS Patients were refractory to primary treatment and/or without effective treatment options. Twenty-eight patients received an intravenous (IV) infusion of FA 100 mg/m(2) over 1 hour and a 5-FU 450 mg/m(2) IV bolus in the middle of the FA infusion. After the FA infusion, gemcitabine was administered at a steady rate of infusion of 10 mg/m(2)/min over initially 30 minutes and with increases of an additional 15 minutes at each given level. One cycle consisted of six weekly treatments followed by a 2-week rest. RESULTS The MTD of gemcitabine was established at 900 mg/m(2) given over 90 minutes. Eight patients of 21 with metastatic colorectal cancer achieved responses (one complete response; seven partial responses), for a response rate of 38%. Responses were seen across the gemcitabine doses of 300 to 900 mg/m(2). One patient had prior treatment with FA/5-FU for advanced disease. Patients with colorectal carcinoma had a median survival of 18 months, and the patient with lung carcinoma has been alive for 24+ months. CONCLUSION The combination chemotherapy of FFG was well tolerated and may benefit patients with advanced colorectal carcinoma. A phase II evaluation in this patient population is in progress.

Abstract
PURPOSE We conducted a phase I clinical trial of BR96-Doxorubicin (BR96-Dox), a chimeric anti-Lewis Y (Le(Y)) monoclonal antibody conjugated to doxorubicin, in patients whose tumors expressed the Le(Y) antigen. The study aimed to determine the toxicity, maximum-tolerated dose, pharmacokinetics, and immunogenicity of BR96-Dox. PATIENTS AND METHODS This was a phase I dose escalation study. BR96-Dox was initially administered alone as a 2-hour infusion every 3 weeks. The occurrence of gastrointestinal (GI) toxicity necessitated the administration of BR96-Dox as a continuous infusion over 24 hours and use of antiemetics and antigastritis premedication. Patients experiencing severe GI toxicity underwent GI endoscopy. All patients underwent restaging after two cycles. RESULTS A total of 66 patients predominantly with metastatic colon and breast cancer were enrolled onto the study. The most common side effects were GI toxicity, fever, and elevation of pancreatic lipase. At higher doses, BR96-Dox was associated with nausea, vomiting, and endoscopically documented exudative gastritis of the upper GI tract, which was dose-limiting at a maximum dose of 875 mg/m(2) (doxorubicin equivalent, 25 mg/m(2)) administered every 3 weeks. Toxicity was reversible and generally of short duration. Premedication with the antiemetic Kytril (granisetron hydrochloride; SmithKline Beecham, Philadelphia, PA), the antacid omeprazole, and dexamethasone was most effective in ameliorating GI toxicity. A dose of 700 mg/m(2) BR96-Dox (doxorubicin equivalent, 19 mg/m(2)) every 3 weeks was determined to be the optimal phase II dose when administered with antiemetic and antigastritis prophylaxis. BR96-Dox deposition on tumor tissue was documented immunohistochemically and by confocal microscopy. At the 550-mg/m(2) dose, the half-life (mean +/- SD) of BR96 and doxorubicin was 300 +/- 95 hours and 43 +/- 4 hours, respectively. BR96-Dox elicited a weak immune response in 37% of patients. Objective clinical responses were seen in two patients. CONCLUSION BR96-Dox provides a unique strategy to deliver doxorubicin to Le(Y)-expressing tumor and was well tolerated at doses of 700 mg/m(2) every 3 weeks. BR96-Dox was not associated with the typical side-effect profile of native doxorubicin and can potentially deliver high doses of doxorubicin to antigen-expressing tumors. A phase II study in doxorubicin-sensitive tumors is warranted.

Abstract
PURPOSE BMS-182248-1 (BR96-doxorubicin immunoconjugate) is a chimeric human/mouse monoclonal antibody linked to approximately eight doxorubicin molecules. The antibody is directed against the Lewis-Y antigen, which is expressed on 75% of all breast cancers but is limited in expression on normal tissues. Preclinical xenograft models demonstrated significant antitumor activity, including cures. A randomized phase II design was chosen to estimate the activity of the BR96-doxorubicin conjugate in metastatic breast cancer in a study population with confirmed sensitivity to single-agent doxorubicin. PATIENTS AND METHODS Patients with measurable metastatic breast cancer and immunohistochemical evidence of Lewis-Y expression on their tumor received either BR96-doxorubicin conjugate 700 mg/m2 IV over 24 hours or doxorubicin 60 mg/m2 every 3 weeks. Patients were stratified on the basis of prior doxorubicin exposure, visceral disease, and institution. Cross-over to the opposite treatment arm was allowed with progressive or persistently stable disease. RESULTS Twenty-three patients who had received a median of one prior chemotherapy regimen were assessable. There was one partial response (7%) in 14 patients receiving the BR96-doxorubicin conjugate and one complete response and three partial responses (44%) in nine assessable patients receiving doxorubicin. No patient experienced a clinically significant hypersensitivity reaction. The toxicities were significantly different between the two treatment groups, with the BR96-doxorubicin conjugate group having limited hematologic toxicity, whereas gastrointestinal toxicities, including marked serum amylase and lipase elevations, nausea, and vomiting with gastritis, were prominent. CONCLUSION The BR96-doxorubicin immunoconjugate has limited clinical antitumor activity in metastatic breast cancer. The gastrointestinal toxicities likely represent binding of the agent to normal tissues expressing the target antigen and may have compromised the delivery of the immunoconjugate to the tumor sites.

Abstract
The combination of interferons (IFNs) and retinoids in antineoplastic therapy is based upon preclinical, in vitro, and in vivo observations. Retinoid-IFN combinations have shown significant antitumor activity against advanced cutaneous and cervical squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), and the toxic effects do not appear to overlap. Based on in vitro evidence of synergy and observed clinical activity, we conducted a pilot phase II trial of 13-cis-retinoic acid (1 mg/kg/day) and IFN alpha (6 million units/day) in patients with advanced pancreatic adenocarcinoma. No objective responses occurred among six evaluable patients. The toxicities were mild and reversible, and grade 3 fatigue occurred in only one patient. No objective antitumor activity was noted against pancreatic adenocarcinomas at the dose and schedule utilized. Further exploration of this this purely biological approach is not warranted for pancreatic adenocarcinomas.

Abstract
Pancreatic cancer is resistant to most chemotherapeutic regimens. Based upon evidence of synergy between 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) and cisplatin (CDDP), and of enhanced 5-FU activity in the presence of leucovorin in other neoplasms, a phase II study of CDDP, 5-FU, and leucovorin was conducted to determine the efficacy of this regimen in patients with unresectable adenocarcinomas of the pancreas. Nineteen patients were enrolled, and all were evaluable for toxicity and response. One complete and two partial responses were observed (15.8%). Adverse effects were reversible and tolerable. This regimen has limited activity against pancreatic cancer, and cannot be recommended as standard therapy in this disease.

Abstract
Phase II trials of the novel biologic combination isotretinoin (13-cis-retinoic aid) plus recombinant interferon alfa-2a have demonstrated this combination's major activity against advanced squamous cell carcinoma of the skin and cervix. Because this combination has had limited study in other tumors, we initiated a phase II trial of this regimen in patients with metastatic colorectal adenocarcinoma. Sixteen patients with measurable metastatic colon carcinoma who had received no previous chemotherapy were entered on the trial. Patients received recombinant interferon alfa-2a, 6 million units a day subcutaneously, and isotretinoin, 1 mg/kg per day orally in two divided doses. Patients were evaluated for response after 8 weeks of treatment and then continued on therapy until progressive disease was documented. We did not observe complete or partial responses. Two patients experienced minor responses in measurable pulmonary metastases lasting 12 and 8 weeks. Grade 3-4 toxic reactions included fatigue (5 patients), granulocytopenia (6 patients), neurotoxicity (2 patients), and elevated serum triglyceride levels (2 patients). Although this combination has demonstrated significant activity in squamous cell carcinomas of the skin and cervix, our results suggest that it has little therapeutic activity against advanced colorectal adenocarcinomas.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Docetaxel (Taxotere) is prepared from a noncytotoxic precursor extracted from the needles of the Taxus baccata. Preclinical investigations have demonstrated that docetaxel is very active in colon adenocarcinoma murine models. Phase I studies revealed granulocytopenia to be the dose-limiting toxicity. Initial clinical trials also demonstrated docetaxel's activity in ovarian, breast, and non-small cell lung cancer. Because of this encouraging preclinical and clinical activity, we initiated a phase II study of docetaxel in patients with metastatic colorectal carcinoma. PATIENTS AND METHODS Docetaxel, 100 mg/m2, was administered as a 1-hour intravenous infusion every 21 days. Nineteen patients were entered on the trial. All patients had measurable disease and had not received prior chemotherapy for metastatic disease. RESULTS No complete or partial responses were observed. Granulocytopenia was the dose-limiting toxic effect. Seventeen patients had grade 4 granulocytopenia; 8 of these patients received antibiotics for neutropenic fevers. Twelve patients experienced hypersensitivity reactions, and 15 patients experienced cutaneous toxic reactions. One patient demonstrated evidence of fluid retention. CONCLUSIONS Administered at the stated dose and schedule, docetaxel has little activity against metastatic colorectal carcinomas. The toxicity profile, consisting of granulocytopenia, hypersensitivity reactions, cutaneous reactions, and edema, has been previously described in patients receiving docetaxel.

Abstract
Forty children 1 1/2 to 3 1/2 years of age searched for stickers that were hidden underneath two discretely different classes of objects embedded in arrays containing several classes. The paper focuses on a previously unobserved strategy that appeared at 3 1/2. Whereas the younger children searched underneath those objects that looked like the objects the children knew had stickers, the 3 1/2-year-olds systematically explored not only the objects that did, but also the objects that did not, have stickers. Eight adults performed similarly to the 3 1/2-year-olds. Analyses of developmental trends in the data and the observation of individual children performing the tasks suggest that the children's increased inspection of the negative objects was not merely the result of a random or more exhaustive search. The children appear to have been attempting to determine which kinds of choices were the wrong ones. The attempt to define and delimit negative cases is a central aspect of reflective thought.

Abstract
This study followed the development of four children with right-hemisphere injury on a series of manipulative classification tasks to determine whether and how early brain injury affects the development of spatial and class relations. The children were first tested at about 2 years of age. Their data were compared with previously collected data from 18- to 42-month-old normal children, and with data from four young children with left-hemisphere injury. The results showed the children with right-hemisphere injury do not generate a particular spatial relation (next to) in their spatial groupings with the same frequency as normal or left-hemisphere damaged children, although they do generate in and on relations with normal frequency. An apparent deficit in the development of class relations is shown to be secondary to the spatial deficit, in that it is evident only in tasks that require spatial grouping.

Abstract
The focus of this study was the strategies used by young children between 18 and 42 months for correcting the errors they made as they attempted to nest a set of 5 seriated cups. In the process of combining the cups, the children committed numerous errors (such as putting a cup that was too large on a smaller cup), and they tried to correct the majority of those errors. Detailed examination of the children's correction attempts revealed that the strategies they used changed substantially with age, becoming increasingly more flexible and involving more extensive restructuring of the relations among the cups. Earlier correction attempts tended to focus on a single, nonfitting cup or on a single relation between 2 cups. Later-appearing strategies involved the coordination of relations involving several cups. The same trend toward increasing flexibility of thought and action also appeared in the procedures the children used to combine the cups. This study thus documents a finely graded series of cognitively significant changes in children's constructive activity during a period that has been poorly differentiated by cognitive developmental research. In so doing, it demonstrates the usefulness for problem-solving research of analyzing how subjects go about trying to rectify their own mistakes.

Abstract
This paper describes the current state of family therapy training in general psychiatry residency programs (GPRP) in the United States. Based on a national survey of 80 GPRP training directors, current practices and attitudes toward family therapy training are assessed. The principal finding is that there has been a significant increase in the amount of required family therapy training in GPRP over previous years and many of the programs would like to expand their current curriculum. Issues concerning course content, definition of family therapy employed, and the meshing of different theoretical paradigms are considered. Recommendations of further research and for the initiation of intradisciplinary and interdisciplinary dialogue are presented.
