Abstract
Overtraining syndrome is a condition resulting from excessive training load associated with inadequate recovery and poor sleep quality, leading to performance decrements and fatigue. Here we hypothesized that vitamin D (VitD) deficiency is a lead factor in the development of the overtraining syndrome. To test this hypothesis, two groups of 60-week-old C57BL/6 mice followed a 16-week excessive eccentric-based overtraining by excessive downhill running with or without dietary VitD depletion (EX and EX-D- groups). Two control groups were trained by uphill running at the same load with or without VitD depletion (CX and CX-D- groups). Handgrip strength decreased throughout the protocol for all groups but the decrease was sharper in EX-D- group (VitD × training, p = 0.0427). At the end of the protocol, the mass of Triceps brachii muscle, which is heavily stressed by eccentric contractions, was reduced in eccentric-trained groups (training effect, p = 0.0107). This atrophy was associated with a lower concentration of the anabolic myokine IL-15 (training effect, p = 0.0314) and a tendency to a higher expression of the atrogene cathepsin-L (training effect, p = 0.0628). VitD depletion led to a 50% decrease of the fractional protein synthesis rate in this muscle (VitD effect, p = 0.0004) as well as decreased FGF21 (VitD effect, p = 0.0351) and increased osteocrin (VitD effect, p = 0.038) concentrations that would lead to metabolic defects. Moreover, the proportion of anti-inflammatory Th2 lymphocytes was significantly decreased by the combination of eccentric training with VitD depletion (vitD × training, p = 0.0249) suggesting a systemic inflammation. Finally, exploratory behavior time of mice was decreased by VitD depletion (VitD effect, p = 0.0146) suggesting a cognitive dysfunction. Our results suggest that VitD deficiency exacerbates the effects of overtraining.

Abstract
PURPOSE Patients with oropharyngeal cancer are at high nutritional risk before and during treatment. Little is known about the influence of human papillomavirus (HPV) infection on nutritional status and its evolution during treatment. MATERIALS AND METHODS A single-center retrospective study was conducted between August 2017 and December 2020 including 48 patients (14 HPV-induced: HPV+ and 34 non-HPV-induced: HPV-) with oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma treated by radiotherapy±chemotherapy (RT/CT). Nutritional risk at the time of tumor assessment (TA) was assessed by weight loss, swallowing ability, and the presence of digestive disorders in 4 stages of increasing severity. Nutritional status was assessed by weight and nutrition risk index (NRI) at the time of TA, before the start and at 3 months from the end of RT±CT. During RT±CT, the NRI and the systemic inflammatory response index (SIRI=neutrophils * monocytes/lymphocytes) were assessed weekly. RESULTS HPV+patients were at lower nutritional risk at TA (50% grade ≥2 vs 85%, P=0.02), lost more weight (6% of their body weight vs 3%, P=0.05), and increased their SIRI by 7.5 points more than HPV- patients (P=0.04) during RT/CT. CONCLUSION HPV+ oropharyngeal cancer patients are at high nutritional risk even in the absence of undernutrition at the outset of management.

Abstract
Background Tumor equivalent uniform dose (EUD) is proposed as a predictor of patient outcome after liver radioembolization (RE) of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and can be evaluated with 90Y-TOF-PET. The aim is to evaluate the correlation between PET-based tumors EUD and the clinical response evaluated with dual molecular tracer (11C-acetate and 18F-FDG) PET/CT post-RE. Methods 34 HCC tumors in 22 patients were prospectively evaluated. The metabolic response was characterized by the total lesion metabolism variation (ΔTLM) between baseline and follow-up. This response allowed to compute a tumor control probability (TCP) as a function of the tumor EUD. Results The absorbed dose response correlation was highly significant (R = 0.72, P < 0.001). With an absorbed dose threshold of 40 Gy, the metabolic response was strongly different in both groups (median response 35% versus 100%, P < 0.001). Post-RE TCP as a function of the EUD was very similar to that observed in external beam radiation therapy (EBRT), with TCP values equal to 0.5 and 0.95 for a EUD of 51 Gy and 100 Gy, respectively. The TCP was perfectly predicted by the Poisson model assuming an inter tumor radiosensitivity variation of 30% around the HCC cell in vitro value. Conclusions EUD-based 90Y TOF-PET/CT predicts the metabolic response post-RE in HCC assessed using dual molecular PET tracers and provides a similar TCP curve to that observed in EBRT. In vivo and in vitro HCC radiosensitivities are similar. Both TCPs show that a EUD of 100 Gy is needed to control HCC for the three devices (resin spheres, glass spheres, EBRT). Observed absorbed doses achieving this 100 Gy-EUD ranged from 190 to 1800 Gy! Supplementary Information The online version contains supplementary material available at 10.1186/s13550-022-00911-0.

Abstract
Selective internal radiation therapy (SIRT) is part of the treatment strategy for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Strong clinical data demonstrated the effectiveness of this therapy in HCC with a significant improvement in patient outcomes. Recent studies demonstrated a strong correlation between the tumor response and the patient outcome when the tumor-absorbed dose was assessed by nuclear medicine imaging. Dosimetry plays a key role in predicting the clinical response and can be optimized using a personalized method of activity planning (multi-compartmental dosimetry). This paper reviews the main clinical results of SIRT in HCC and emphasizes the central role of dosimetry for improving it effectiveness. Moreover, some patient and tumor characteristics predict a worse outcome, and toxicity related to SIRT treatment of advanced HCC patient selection based on the performance status, liver function, tumor characteristics, and tumor targeting using technetium-99m macro-aggregated albumin scintigraphy can significantly improve the clinical performance of SIRT.

Abstract
Abstract
Purpose. Current hole matching pixel detector (HMPD) collimators for SPECT imaging exist in two configurations: one hole per pixel (1HMPD) or four holes per pixel (4HMPD). The aim of this study was to assess the performance of a dual-layer collimator made by stacking up these two collimator types (1H/4HMDP) for low- and medium energy gamma emitters. Method. Analytical equations describing geometrical efficiency and full width at half maximum (FWHM) of the 1H/4HMDP collimator were derived. In addition, a fast dedicated Monte Carlo (MC) code neglecting scattering and designed for the collimator geometry was developed to assess the collimator’s point spread function and to simulate planar and SPECT acquisitions. Results. A relative agreement between analytical equations and MC simulations better than 3% was observed for the efficiency and for the FWHM. The length of the two layers was optimized to get the best spatial resolution while keeping the geometrical efficiency equal to that of the 45 mm length 1HMPD collimator. An optimized combination of the 1H/4HMPD configuration with respective hole lengths of 20 and 13 mm has been derived. For source-collimator distances above 5 cm and equal collimator geometrical efficiency, the spatial resolution of this optimal 1H/4HMDP collimator supersedes that of the 45 mm length 1HMPD collimator, and that of the 19.1 mm length 4HMPD collimator. This improvement was observed in simulations of bar phantom planar images and of hot rods phantom SPECT. Remarkably, the spatial resolution was preserved along the whole radial range within the Jaszczak phantom. Conclusion. The 1H/4HMDP collimator is a promising solution for CZT SPECT imaging of low- and medium energy emitters.

Abstract
PURPOSE We aimed to determine whether antireflux (ARC) catheter may result in better tumor targeting in liver radioembolization using 90Y-resin microspheres. METHODS Patients treated with resin microspheres for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and secondary liver malignancies were retrospectively analyzed. All patients underwent a 99mTc-macroaggregated albumin (99mTc-MAA) single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) following the planning arteriography with a conventional end-hole catheter. For 90Y-microspheres injection, two groups were defined depending on the type of catheter used: an ARC group (n=38) and a control group treated with a conventional end-hole catheter (n=23). 90Y positron emission tomography computed tomography (PET/CT) was performed after the therapeutic arteriography. The choice of the catheter was not randomized, but left to the choice of the interventional radiologist. 99mTc-MAA SPECT and 90Y PET/CT were co-registered with the baseline imaging to determine a tumor to normal liver ratio (T/NL[MAA or 90Y]) and tumor dose (TD[MAA or 90Y]) for the planning and therapy. RESULTS Overall, 38 patients (115 lesions) and 23 patients (75 lesions) were analyzed in the ARC and control groups, respectively. In the ARC group, T/NL90Y and TD90Y were significantly higher than T/NLMAA and TDMAA. Median (IQR) T/NL90Y was 2.16 (2.15) versus 1.74 (1.43) for T/NLMAA (p < 0.001). Median (IQR) TD90Y was 90.96 Gy (98.31 Gy) versus 73.72 Gy (63.82 Gy) for TDMAA (p < 0.001). In this group, the differences were highly significant for neuroendocrine metastases (NEM) and HCC and less significant for colorectal metastases (CRM). In the control group, no significant differences were demonstrated. CONCLUSION The use of an ARC significantly improves tumor deposition in liver radioembolization with resin microspheres.

Abstract
The aim of this standard operational procedure is to standardize the methodology employed for the evaluation of pre- and post-treatment absorbed dose calculations in 90Y microsphere liver radioembolization. Basic assumptions include the permanent trapping of microspheres, the local energy deposition method for voxel dosimetry, and the patient-relative calibration method for activity quantification.The identity of 99mTc albumin macro-aggregates (MAA) and 90Y microsphere biodistribution is also assumed. The large observed discrepancies in some patients between 99mTc-MAA predictions and actual 90Y microsphere distributions for lesions is discussed. Absorbed dose predictions to whole non-tumoural liver are considered more reliable and the basic predictors of toxicity. Treatment planning based on mean absorbed dose delivered to the whole non-tumoural liver is advised, except in super-selective treatments.Given the potential mismatch between MAA simulation and actual therapy, absorbed doses should be calculated both pre- and post-therapy. Distinct evaluation between target tumours and non-tumoural tissue, including lungs in cases of lung shunt, are vital for proper optimization of therapy. Dosimetry should be performed first according to a mean absorbed dose approach, with an optional, but important, voxel level evaluation. Fully corrected 99mTc-MAA Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT)/computed tomography (CT) and 90Y TOF PET/CT are regarded as optimal acquisition methodologies, but, for institutes where SPECT/CT is not available, non-attenuation corrected 99mTc-MAA SPECT may be used. This offers better planning quality than non dosimetric methods such as Body Surface Area (BSA) or mono-compartmental dosimetry. Quantitative 90Y bremsstrahlung SPECT can be used if dedicated correction methods are available.The proposed methodology is feasible with standard camera software and a spreadsheet. Available commercial or free software can help facilitate the process and improve calculation time.

Abstract
Purpose Explaining why 90Y TOF-PET based equivalent uniform dose (EUD) using recommended manufacturer FDG reconstruction parameters has been shown to predict response. Methods The hot rods insert of a Jaszczak deluxe phantom was partially filled with a 2.65 GBq 90Y - 300ml DTPA water solution resulting in a 100 Gy mean absorbed dose in the 6 sectors. A two bed 20min/position acquisition was performed on a 550ps- and on a 320ps- TOF-PET/CT and reconstructed with recommended manufacturer FDG reconstruction parameters, without and with additional filtering. The whole procedure was repeated on both PET after adding 300ml of water (50Gy setup). The phantom was acquired again after decay by a factor of 10 (5Gy setup), but with 200min per bed position. For comparison, the phantom was also acquired with 18F activity corresponding to a clinical FDG whole body acquisition. Results The 100Gy-setup provided a hot rod sectors image almost as good as the 18F phantom. However, despite acquisition time compensation, the 5Gy-setup provides much lower quality imaging. TOF-PET based sectors EUDs for the three large rod sectors agreed with the actual EUDs computed with a radiosensitivity of 0.021Gy-1 well in the range observed in external beam radiotherapy (EBRT), i.e. 0.01-0.04Gy-1. This agreement explains the reunification of the dose-response relationships of the glass and resin spheres in HCC using the TOF-PET based EUD. Additional filtering reduced the EUDs agreement quality. Conclusions Recommended manufacturer FDG reconstruction parameters are suitable in TOF-PET post 90Y liver radioembolization for accurate tumour EUD computation. The present results rule out the use of low specific activity phantom studies to optimize reconstruction parameters.

Abstract
The development of dosimetry and studies in peptide receptor radionuclide therapy (PRRT) over the past two decades are reviewed. Differences in kidney and bone marrow toxicity reported between 90Y, 177Lu and external beam radiotherapy (EBRT) are discussed with regard to the physical properties of these beta emitter radionuclides. The impact of these properties on the response to small and large tumors is also considered. Capacities of the imaging modalities to assess the dosimetry to target tissues are evaluated. Studies published in the past two years that confirm a red marrow uptake in 177Lu-DOTATATE therapy, as already observed 20 years ago in 86Y-DOTATOC PET studies, are analyzed in light of the recent developments in the transferrin transport mechanism. The review enlightens the importance (i) of using state-of-the-art imaging modalities, (ii) of individualizing the activity to be injected with regard to the huge tissue uptake variability observed between patients, (iii) of challenging the currently used but inappropriate blood-based red marrow dosimetry and (iv) of considering individual tandem therapy. Last, a smart individually optimized tandem therapy taking benefit of the bi-orthogonal toxicity-response pattern of 177Lu-DOTATATE and of 90Y-DOTATOC is proposed.

Abstract
Inert microspheres, labeled with several radionuclides, have been developed during the last two decades for the intra-arterial treatment of liver tumors, generally called Selective Intrahepatic radiotherapy (SIRT). The aim is to embolize microspheres into the hepatic capillaries, accessible through the hepatic artery, to deliver high levels of local radiation to primary (such as hepatocarcinoma, HCC) or secondary (metastases from several primary cancers, e.g., colorectal, melanoma, neuro-endocrine tumors) liver tumors. Several types of microspheres were designed as medical devices, using different vehicles (glass, resin, poly-lactic acid) and labeled with different radionuclides, 90Y and 166Ho. The relationship between the microspheres' properties and the internal dosimetry parameters have been well studied over the last decade. This includes data derived from the clinics, but also computational data with various millimetric dosimetry and radiobiology models. The main purpose of this paper is to define the characteristics of these radiolabeled microspheres and explain their association with the microsphere distribution in the tissues and with the clinical efficacy and toxicity. This review focuses on avenues to follow in the future to optimize such particle therapy and benefit to patients.

Abstract
Simple Summary Radioembolization of hepatic tumors is performed by injecting 90Y or 166Ho loaded spheres into the hepatic artery. A twofold tumor to normal liver absorbed dose ratio is commonly obtained. In order to improve tumoral cell killing while preserving lobule function, co-injection of arterial vasoconstrictor has been proposed, but without success: the hepatic arterial buffer response quickly inhibits the arterioles vasoconstriction. The aim of the study is to investigate whether it is possible to take benefit from this buffer response, by co-infusing a mesenteric arterial vasodilator in order to dump the hepatic lobules arterial flow. Animal studies evidencing such mechanism are reviewed. Some potential mesenteric vasodilators are identified and their safety profile discussed. A four to sixfold improvement of the tumoral to normal tissue dose ratio is expected, pushing the therapy towards a real curative intention, especially in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), more frequent in obese subjects, and where ultra-selective spheres delivery is often not possible. Abstract Liver radioembolization is a treatment option for unresectable liver cancers, performed by infusion of 90Y or 166Ho loaded spheres in the hepatic artery. As tumoral cells are mainly perfused via the liver artery unlike hepatic lobules, a twofold tumor to normal liver dose ratio is commonly obtained. To improve tumoral cell killing while preserving lobules, co-infusion of arterial vasoconstrictor has been proposed but with limited success: the hepatic arterial buffer response (HABR) and hepatic vascular escape mechanism hamper the arterioles vasoconstriction. The proposed project aims to take benefit from the HABR by co-infusing a mesenteric arterial vasodilator: the portal flow enhancement inducing the vasoconstriction of the intra sinusoids arterioles barely impacts liver tumors that are mainly fed by novel and anarchic external arterioles. Animal studies were reviewed and dopexamine was identified as a promising safe candidate, reducing by four the hepatic lobules arterial flow. A clinical trial design is proposed. A four to sixfold improvement of the tumoral to normal tissue dose ratio is expected, pushing the therapy towards a real curative intention, especially in HCC where ultra-selective spheres delivery is often not possible.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Sports concussion is a major problem that affects thousands of people every year. Concussion-related neurometabolic changes are thought to underlie neurophysiological alterations and post-concussion symptoms, such as headaches and sensitivity to light and noise, disabilities of concentration and tiredness. The injury triggers a complex neurometabolic cascade involving multiple mechanisms. There are pharmaceutical treatments that target one mechanism, but specific nutrients have been found to impact several pathways, thus offering a broader approach. This has prompted intensive research into the use of nutrient supplements as a concussion prevention and treatment strategy. METHOD We realised a bibliographic state of art providing a contemporary clinical and preclinical studies dealing with nutritional factors in sport-related concussion. RESULTS Numerous supplements, including n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids, sulfur amino acids, antioxidants and minerals, have shown promising results as aids to concussion recovery or prevention in animal studies, most of which use a fluid percussion technique to cause brain injury, and in a few human studies of severe or moderate traumatic brain injury. Current ongoing human trials can hopefully provide us with more information, in particular, on new options, i.e. probiotics, lactate or amino acids, for the use of nutritional supplements for concussed athletes. CONCLUSION Nutritional supplementation has emerged as a potential strategy to prevent and/or reduce the deleterious effects of sports-related concussion and subconcussive impacts.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) is one of the most common causes of emergency department visits around the world. Up to 90% of injuries are classified as mTBI. Cranial computed tomography (CCT) is a standard diagnosis tool to identify intracranial complications in adults with mTBI. Alternatively, children can be admitted for inpatient observation with CCT scans performed only on those with clinical deterioration. The use of blood biomarkers is a supplementary tool for identifying patients at risk of intracerebral lesions who may need imaging. METHOD We realised a bibliographic state of art providing a contemporary clinical and laboratory framework for blood biomarker testing in mTBI management. RESULTS The S100B protein is the only biomarker that can be used today in the clinical routine for management of mTBI with appropriate evidence-based medicine. Due to its excellent negative predictive value, S100B protein is an alternative choice to CCT scanning for mTBI management with considered, consensual and pragmatic use. In this state of art, we propose points to help clinicians and clinical pathologists use serum S100B protein in the clinical routine. A state of art on the different biomarkers (GFAP, UCH-L1, NF [H or L], tau, H-FABP, SNTF, NSE, miRNAs, MBP) is also conducted. Some of these other biomarkers, used alone (GFAP, UCH-L1) or in combination (GFAP+H-FABP±S100B±IL10) can improve the specificity of S100B. CONCLUSION Using a bibliographic state of art, we highlighted the added values of the blood biomarkers for the clinical management of mTBI.

Abstract
Abstract
Purpose. Evaluating the time-of-flight (TOF) resolution improvement that could be obtained using an easy crystal block modification which enables depth of interaction (DOI) assessment and simplifies the detector assembling process. Method. A fast optical Monte Carlo (MC) code was developed. The code was evaluated versus measurements of the energy resolution, number of detected scintillation photons and TOF resolution (TOFr) reported for different crystal photodetector setups. Then, MC simulations were performed for a modified crystal block section of 8 × 8 mm2 in which two partial saw cuts allow light sharing between four detector pixels with a strong dependence on the DOI. Results. Relative differences between MC simulations and reported measurements were always below 10% for any quantities. The simulations showed that the best TOFr was obtained by leaving the partial saw cuts empty. This feature results from the fact that for a slant angle lower than 56 degrees, the scintillation photons undergo a lossless total reflection at the L[Y]SO → air boundary, which is hardly achievable using a reflector material. According to the simulations, this approach allows a TOFr improvement from 163 ps to 90 ps full width at half-maximum using a 22 mm thick LSO 0.2%Ca:Ce crystal coupled to a FBK-NUV-HD silicon photomultiplier. Conclusion. Sub-100 ps TOFr using thick LSO crystal appears achievable using this simple crystal block modification. The method reduces by a factor of 4 the number of crystal pixels to be covered by a reflective material and afterwards joined together. As clinical positron emission tomography contains about 60 000 crystal pixels, this benefit would reduce the assembling cost.

Abstract
BACKGROUND With the increasing prevalence of obesity and the risk of increased dependency among the elderly, it becomes important to characterize the link between obesity and frailty. The relationship between obesity and social deprivation would be bidirectional, with each influencing the other. OBJECTIVES Main objective was to study the relationship between frailty as defined by Fried and obesity (Body Mass Index (BMI) and abdominal obesity). Secondary objective was to assess the relationship between frailty and social deprivation. MATERIALS AND METHODS This was a cross-sectional study, with data collected between January 2014 and December 2015 using a senior periodic health prevention examination form used in the 4 sites of the health examination center, in Rhone, among non-institutionalized seniors (≥ 65 years). Frailty was defined according to Fried's criteria. Obesity was defined by a BMI ≥ 30 kg / m2 and a waist circumference > 88 cm for women and >102 cm for men. We studied the association between obesity according to BMI ≥ 30kg / m2 on the one hand and abdominal obesity on the other hand with frailty according to Fried. The analyzes were adjusted for gender, age, education level, not being in a relationship and social deprivation quantified by the assessment score of deprivation and health inequalities (EPICES score). RESULTS 1593 senior health prevention examination forms were studied. According to BMI, senior women were almost twice as likely to be frail when obese (RR = 1.92, 95% CI [1.06 - 3.45], p = 0.018). The results were similar for abdominal obesity in women aged 65-74 years (RR = 2.12, 95% CI [1.03-4.35], p = 0.029). There was no relationship in men for both types of obesity. Seniors who were socially deprived were 2.7 times more likely to be frail than non-deprived seniors (adjusted RR = 2.76, 95% CI [1.808 - 4.203], p <0.001). CONCLUSIONS Obesity (BMI ≥ 30kg / m2 and high waist circumference) was associated with increased frailty among older, non-institutionalized women who came for a periodic health prevention examination. Screening and prevention of obesity in the elderly appears to be a major public health issue, and remains a priority target for action.

Abstract
Volumes of usual PET phantoms are about four to sixfold that of a human liver. In order to avoid count rate saturation and handling of very high 90Y activity, reported TOF-PET phantom studies are performed using specific activities lower than those observed in liver radioembolization. However, due to the constant random coincidence rate induced by the natural crystal radioactivity, reduction of 90Y specific activity in TOF-PET imaging cannot be counterbalanced by increasing the acquisition time. As a result, most 90Y phantom studies reported images noisier than those obtained in whole-body 18F-FDG, and thus advised to use dedicated noise control in TOF-PET imaging post 90Y liver radioembolization. We performed acquisitions of the Jaszczak Deluxe phantom in which the hot rod insert was only partially filled with 2.6 GBq of 90Y. Standard reconstruction parameters recommended by the manufacturer for whole-body 18F-FDG PET were used. Low specific activity setups, although exactly compensated by increasing the acquisition time in order to get the same number of detected true coincidences per millilitre, were impacted by significant noise. On the other hand, specific activity and acquisition time setup similar to that used in post 90Y liver radioembolization provided image quality very close to that of whole-body 18F-FDG. This result clearly discards the use of low specific activity phantoms intended to TOF-PET reconstruction parameter optimization. Volume reduction of large phantoms can be achieved by vertically setting the phantoms or by adding Styrofoam inserts.

Abstract
Clinical studies reported a twofold ratio between the efficacies per Gy of resin versus glass spheres. Our aim is to investigate whether this difference could result from the different degrees of heterogeneity in sphere distribution between the two medical devices. The 90Y TOF-PET based equivalent uniform doses (EUD) was used for this purpose. 58 consecutive HCC radioembolizations were retrospectively analyzed. Absorbed doses D and Jones-Hoban EUD in lesions were computed. Radioembolization efficacy was assessed using Kaplan-Meier survival curves. In order to match together the glass and resin spheres survival curves using a 40 Gy-threshold, an efficacy factor of 0.73 and 0.36 has to be applied on their absorbed dose, respectively. Using EUD, a nice matching between glass and resin survival curves was obtained with a better separation of the responding and not responding survival curves. The results clearly support the fact that the activity heterogeneity observed in 90Y TOF-PET post radioembolization does not only result from statistical noise, but also reflects the actual heterogeneity of the spheres distribution. Use of EUD reunifies the efficacy of the two medical devices.

Abstract
Our literature survey revealed a physical effect unknown to the nuclear medicine community, i.e. internal bremsstrahlung emission, and also the existence of long energy resolution tails in crystal scintillation. None of these effects has ever been modelled in PET Monte Carlo (MC) simulations. This study investigates whether these two effects could be at the origin of two unexplained observations in 90Y imaging by PET: the increasing tails in the radial profile of true coincidences, and the presence of spurious extrahepatic counts post radioembolization in non-TOF PET and their absence in TOF PET. These spurious extrahepatic counts hamper the microsphere delivery check in liver radioembolization. An acquisition of a 32P vial was performed on a GSO PET system. This is the ideal setup to study the impact of bremsstrahlung x-rays on the true coincidence rate when no positron emission and no crystal radioactivity are present. A MC simulation of the acquisition was performed using Gate-Geant4. MC simulations of non-TOF PET and TOF-PET imaging of a synthetic 90Y human liver radioembolization phantom were also performed. Internal bremsstrahlung and long energy resolution tails inclusion in MC simulations quantitatively predict the increasing tails in the radial profile. In addition, internal bremsstrahlung explains the discrepancy previously observed in bremsstrahlung SPECT between the measure of the 90Y bremsstrahlung spectrum and its simulation with Gate-Geant4. However the spurious extrahepatic counts in non-TOF PET mainly result from the failure of conventional random correction methods in such low count rate studies and poor robustness versus emission-transmission inconsistency. A novel proposed random correction method succeeds in cleaning the spurious extrahepatic counts in non-TOF PET. Two physical effects not considered up to now in nuclear medicine were identified to be at the origin of the unusual 90Y true coincidences radial profile. TOF reconstruction removing of the spurious extrahepatic counts was theoretically explained by a better robustness against emission-transmission inconsistency. A novel random correction method was proposed to overcome the issue in non-TOF PET. Further studies are needed to assess the novel random correction method robustness.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Vitamin D affects physical performance in older adults. Its effects on muscles, notably on muscle strength, remain unclear. The objective of this cross-sectional study was to determine whether hypovitaminosis D is associated with triceps brachii muscle fatigability in community-dwelling older women. METHODS A randomized subset of 744 women aged ≥75years from the EPIDOS cohort was categorized into two groups according to triceps brachii muscle fatigability, defined as loss of strength >5% between two consecutive maximal isometric voluntary contractions. Hypovitaminosis D was defined using consensual threshold values (i.e., serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D concentration [25OHD] ≤10 ng/mL, ≤20 ng/mL, and ≤30 ng/mL). Age, body mass index, comorbidities, use psychoactive drugs, physical activity, first triceps strength measure, hyperparathyroidism, serum concentrations of calcium, albumin and creatinine, season and study centers were used as potential confounders. RESULTS The prevalence of hypovitaminosis D ≤ 30 ng/mL was greater among women with muscle fatigability compared with the others (P = .009). There was no between-group difference using the other definitions of hypovitaminosis D. The serum 25OHD concentration was inversely associated with the between-test change in triceps strength (adjusted β = -0.09 N, P = .04). Hypovitaminosis D ≤ 30 ng/mL was positively associated with triceps fatigability (adjusted OR = 3.15, P = .02). CONCLUSIONS Vitamin D concentration was inversely associated with the ability to maintain strength over time in this cohort of community-dwelling older women. This is a relevant new orientation of research toward understanding the involvement of vitamin D in muscle function.

Abstract
BACKGROUND A low serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D [(25(OH) D)] concentration was shown to correlate with higher fasting blood glucose (FBG) and insulin levels. Since age affect insulin sensitivity and the metabolism, we aimed in this randomized controlled trial to investigate the effect of vitamin D supplementation on glucose homeostasis and index of insulin resistance in elderly subjects living in Beirut, Lebanon. METHODS Participants (n= 115) deficient in vitamin D were randomly divided into two groups, a group receiving 30,000 IU cholecalciferol/week for a period of 6 months, and a placebo group. The index of insulin resistance HOMA (homeostasis model assessment) was the primary outcome. Glucose homeostasis and metabolic markers were also measured at start of treatment and at 6 months. RESULTS Vitamin D supplementation led to significant improvements in blood levels of [25(OH) D] (P< 0.0001), and a significant decreased of HOMA, PTH and FBG concentrations (P< 0.0001) in the intervention group compared to placebo. No significant changes were observed in HbA1c levels for both groups. Total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol concentrations have also decreased significantly in the intervention group (P< 0.0001). CONCLUSION Short-term supplementation with cholecalciferol improved vitamin D status, and markers of insulin resistance in healthy elder population. Abstract
OBJECTIVES To determine i) whether cases of elderly fallers had lower serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25OHD) concentration than controls without history of falls; and ii) whether serum 25OHD concentration was associated with specific mechanisms, circumstances and consequences of falls. DESIGN Case-control study with a 1:2 ratio. SETTING Geriatric ward of the University Hospital of Angers, France, between February 2012 and March 2014. PARTICIPANTS 216 inpatients (72 cases and 144 age- and gender-matched controls). MEASUREMENT Falls were defined as involuntary events causing the person to the ground or other lower level. The main mechanisms, circumstances and consequences of falls were identified using standardized questionnaires. Vitamin D deficiency was defined as serum 25OHD concentration ≤25nmol/L. Age, gender, body mass index, polypharmacy, use antihypertensive drugs, use psychoactive drugs, disability, cognitive performance, serum concentrations of parathyroid hormone, creatinine and albumin, and season of evaluation were used as potential confounders. RESULTS 216 participants (72 cases and 144 controls) were included in the study. There was no between-group difference in the prevalence of vitamin D deficiency (P=0.176). After adjusting for confounding factors, vitamin D deficiency was positively associated with falls (OR=4.03, P=0.014). Finally, the fallers with vitamin D deficiency exhibited more often orthostatic hypotension (68.8% against 33.3%, P=0.039) and a history of recurrent falls (85% against 50%, P=0.002) than those without vitamin D deficiency. CONCLUSION This case-control study reported that vitamin D deficiency was associated with falls in older inpatients. There was a greater prevalence of orthostatic hypotension and of the reccurrence of falls among fallers with vitamin D deficiency, suggesting that vitamin D may influence the conditions predisposing to falls rather than the fall by itself.

After a brief history of the major evolutions of positron emission tomography since its introduction in 1972, this article reviews the recent improvements and novel trends in positron emission tomography with a special focus on the time of flight that is currently the major research topic. Novel emerging acquisition modalities, such as dual tracer acquisition, inline hadron therapy dose imaging and yttrium-90 imaging are reviewed.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Hypovitaminosis D is very prevalent, especially in the obese population. However, the degree of severity and the parameters involved in vitamin D deficiency in this population are still unclear. The present study aimed to identify, from among the factors known to influence vitamin D status in a healthy population, those impacting the same parameter in obese population. METHODS Serum 25-OH-D concentration was measured in 564 patients with class III obesity [i.e. severe and morbid obesity; mean (SD) body mass index (BMI) 42.04 (6.92) kg m-2 ] and their demographic, clinical, biological, anthropometric, dietary and socio-economic data were collected. RESULTS We observed that 96% of the obese patients had serum 25-OH-D lower than 30 ng mL-1 . Severe vitamin D deficiency (serum 25-OH-D concentration <10 ng mL-1 ) affected 35% of this population. We found an inverse relationship between 25-OH-D levels and BMI (P = 0.012), fat mass (P = 0.041), metabolic syndrome (P < 0.0001), fasting blood glucose (P = 0.023), homeostasis model assessment for insulin resistance (P = 0.008), waist circumference (P = 0.001), and fasting blood triglycerides (P = 0.002) and C-reactive protein (P = 0.005). Low socio-economic status independently increased the risk of severe vitamin D deficiency [odds ratio (OR) = 1.98; 95% confidence interval (CI) 1.25-3.13], especially in the autumn-winter season (OR = 2.94; 95% CI 1.98-4.36), morbid obesity (OR = 3.19; 95% CI 1.49-6.82), metabolic syndrome (OR = 1.6; 95% CI 1.06-2.42) and inflammation (OR = 1.03; 95% CI 1.01-1.06). CONCLUSIONS Vitamin D deficiency is extremely common among obese patients, and the prevalence of severe deficiency is high. The association of adiposity, high body mass index, metabolic syndrome and inflammation with vitamin D status is marked, whereas low socio-economic status appears to be a major risk factor for severe vitamin D deficiency, suggesting that vitamin D deficiency may at least in part be responsible for the greater health vulnerability of populations with low socio-economic status.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Radiolabeled antibodies directed against endoglin (CD105) are promising tools for imaging and antiangiogenic cancer therapy. To validate iodinated antibodies as reliable tracers, we investigated the influence of the radiolabeling method (direct or indirect) on their in vivo stability. METHODS Anti-CD105 mAbs were radioiodinated directly using chloramine-T ((125)I-anti-CD105-mAbs) or indirectly using D-KRYRR peptide as a linker ((125)I-KRYRR-anti-CD105-mAbs). The biodistribution was studied in B16 tumor-bearing mice via SPECT/CT imaging. RESULTS Radioiodinated mAbs were stable in vitro. In vivo, thyroid showed the most important increase of uptake after 24h for (125)I-anti-CD105-mAbs (91.9±4.0%ID/ml) versus(125)I-KRYRR-anti-CD105-mAbs (4.4±0.6%ID/ml). Tumor uptake of (125)I-anti-CD105-mAbs (0.9±0.3%ID/ml) was significantly lower than that of (125)I-KRYRR-anti-CD105-mAbs (4.7±0.2%ID/ml). CONCLUSIONS An accurate characterization of the in vivo stability of radioiodinated mAbs and the choice of an appropriate method for the radioiodination are required, especially for novel targets. The indirect radioiodination of internalizing anti-CD105 mAbs leads to more stable tracer by decreasing in vivo deiodination and improves the tumor retention of radioiodinated mAbs. ADVANCES IN KNOWLEDGE AND IMPLICATIONS FOR PATIENT CARE To date, the only antiangiogenic antibody approved for clinical indications is bevacizumab. There is a need to develop more antibodies that have targets highly expressed on tumor endothelium. CD105 represents a promising marker of angiogenesis, but its therapeutic relevance in cancer needs to be further investigated. In this context, this study suggests the potential use of indirectly iodinated anti-CD105 mAbs for tumor imaging and for therapeutic purposes.

Abstract
Background αVβ3-integrin is expressed by activated endothelial cells and macrophages in atherosclerotic plaques and may represent a valuable marker of high-risk plaques. We evaluated 99mTc-maraciclatide, an integrin-specific tracer, for imaging vascular inflammation in atherosclerotic lesions in mice. Methods Apolipoprotein E-negative (ApoE−/−) mice on a Western diet (n = 10) and normally fed adult C57BL/6 control mice (n = 4) were injected with 99mTc-maraciclatide (51.8 ± 3.7 MBq). A blocking peptide was infused in three ApoE−/− mice; this condition served as another control. After 90 min, the animals were imaged via single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT). While maintained in the same position, the mice were transferred to computed tomography (CT) to obtain contrast-enhanced images of the aortic arch. Images from both modalities were fused, and signal was quantified in the aortic arch and in the vena cava for subtraction of blood-pool activity. The aorta was carefully dissected after imaging for gamma counting, autoradiography, and histology. Results Tracer uptake was significantly higher in ApoE−/− mice than in both groups of control mice (1.56 ± 0.33 vs. 0.82 ± 0.24 vs. 0.98 ± 0.11, respectively; P = 0.006). Furthermore, higher tracer activity was detected via gamma counting in the aorta of hypercholesterolemic mice than in both groups of control mice (1.52 ± 0.43 vs. 0.78 ± 0.19 vs. 0.47 ± 0.31 99mTc-maraciclatide %ID/g, respectively; P = 0.018). Autoradiography showed significantly higher tracer uptake in the atherosclerotic aorta than in the control aorta (P = 0.026). Finally, in the atherosclerotic aorta, immunostaining indicated that the integrin signal came predominantly from macrophages and was correlated with the macrophage CD68 immunomarker (r = 0.73). Conclusions 99mTc-maraciclatide allows in vivo detection of inflamed atherosclerotic plaques in mice and may represent a non-invasive approach for identifying high-risk plaques in patients.

Abstract
Background The origin of the reduction in thyroid uptake after a low activity iodine scan, so-called stunning effect, is still controversial. Two explanations prevail: an individual cell stunning that reduces its capability to store iodine without altering its viability, and/or a significant cell-killing fraction that reduces the number of cells in the tissue still taking up iodine. Our aim is to analyze whether this last assumption could explain the observed reduction. Methods The survival fraction after administration of a small radioiodine activity was computed by two independent methods: the application of the statistical theory underlying tissue control probability on recent clinical studies of thyroid remnant 131I ablation and the use of the radiosensitivities reported in human thyroid cell assays for different radioiodine isotopes. Results Both methods provided survival fractions in line with the uptake reduction observed after a low 131I activity scan. The second method also predicts a similar behavior after a low 123I or 124I activity scan. Conclusions This study shows that the cell-killing fraction is sufficient to explain the uptake reduction effect for 131I and 123I after a low activity scan and that even if some still living cells express a stunning effect just after irradiation (as shown in vitro), they will mostly die with time. As the β/α value is very low, this therapy fractionation should not impact the patient outcome in agreement with recent studies. However, in case of huge uptake heterogeneity, pre-therapy scan could specifically kills high-uptake cells and by the way could reduce the cross irradiation to the low-uptake cells during the therapy, resulting in a reduction of the ablation success rate. Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate whether fortification of yogurts with vitamin D and calcium exerts an additional lowering effect on serum parathyroid hormone (PTH) and bone resorption markers (BRM) as compared to iso-caloric and iso-protein dairy products in aged white women at risk of fragility fractures. DESIGN A randomized double-blind controlled trial. SETTING A community dwelling home. PARTICIPANTS Forty-eight women over 60 years (mean age 73.4). INTERVENTION Consumption during 84 days of two 125 g servings of either vitamin D and calcium-fortified yogurts (FY) at supplemental levels of 10 µg vitamin D3/d and 520 mg/d of calcium (total=800 mg/d), or non fortified control yogurts (CY) providing 280 mg/d of calcium. MEASUREMENTS Serum changes from baseline (D0) to D28, D56 and D84 in 25OHD, PTH and in two BRM: Tartrate-resistant-acid-phosphatase-isoform-5b (TRAP5b) and carboxy-terminal-cross-linked-telopeptide of type-I-collagen (CTX). RESULTS The 10 years risk of major and hip fractures were 13.1 and 5.0%, and 12.9 and 4.2 %, in FY and CY groups, respectively. From D0 to D84, serum 25OHD increased (mean±SE) from 34.3±2.4 to 56.3±2.4 nmol/L in FY (n=24) and from 35.0±2.5 to 41.3±3.0 nmol/L in CY (n=24), (P=0.00001). The corresponding changes in PTH were from 64.1±5.1 to 47.4±3.8 ng/L in FY and from 63.5±4.6 to 60.7±4.2 ng/L in CY (P=0.0011). After D84, TRAP5b was reduced significantly (P=0.0228) and CTX fell though not significantly (P=0.0773) in FY compared to CY. CONCLUSION This trial in aged white women living in a community dwelling home at risk for osteoporotic fractures confirms that fortification of dairy products with vitamin D3 and calcium should provide a greater prevention of secondary hyperparathyroidism and accelerated bone resorption as compared to non-fortified equivalent foods.
