Abstract
Autosomal recessive pathogenetic variants in the DGUOK gene cause deficiency of deoxyguanosine kinase activity and mitochondrial deoxynucleotides pool imbalance, consequently, leading to quantitative and/or qualitative impairment of mitochondrial DNA synthesis. Typically, patients present early-onset liver failure with or without neurological involvement and a clinical course rapidly progressing to death. This is an international multicentre study aiming to provide a retrospective natural history of deoxyguanosine kinase deficient patients. A systematic literature review from January 2001 to June 2023 was conducted. Physicians of research centres or clinicians all around the world caring for previously reported patients were contacted to provide followup information or additional clinical, biochemical, histological/histochemical, and molecular genetics data for unreported cases with a confirmed molecular diagnosis of deoxyguanosine kinase deficiency. A cohort of 202 genetically confirmed patients, 36 unreported, and 166 from a systematic literature review, were analyzed. Patients had a neonatal onset (≤ 1 month) in 55.7% of cases, infantile (>1 month and ≤ 1 year) in 32.3%, pediatric (>1 year and ≤18 years) in 2.5% and adult (>18 years) in 9.5%. Kaplan-Meier analysis showed statistically different survival rates (P < 0.0001) among the four age groups with the highest mortality for neonatal onset. Based on the clinical phenotype, we defined four different clinical subtypes: hepatocerebral (58.8%), isolated hepatopathy (21.9%), hepatomyoencephalopathy (9.6%), and isolated myopathy (9.6%). Muscle involvement was predominant in adult-onset cases whereas liver dysfunction causes morbidity and mortality in early-onset patients with a median survival of less than 1 year. No genotype-phenotype correlation was identified. Liver transplant significantly modified the survival rate in 26 treated patients when compared with untreated. Only six patients had additional mild neurological signs after liver transplant. In conclusion, deoxyguanosine kinase deficiency is a disease spectrum with a prevalent liver and brain tissue specificity in neonatal and infantile-onset patients and muscle tissue specificity in adult-onset cases. Our study provides clinical, molecular genetics and biochemical data for early diagnosis, clinical trial planning and immediate intervention with liver transplant and/or nucleoside supplementation.

Abstract
Primary mitochondrial diseases (PMDs) are complex group of metabolic disorders caused by genetically determined impairment of the mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS). The unique features of mitochondrial genetics and the pivotal role of mitochondria in cell biology explain the phenotypical heterogeneity of primary mitochondrial diseases and the resulting diagnostic challenges that follow. Some peculiar features ("red flags") may indicate a primary mitochondrial disease, helping the physician to orient in this diagnostic maze. In this narrative review, we aimed to outline the features of the most common mitochondrial red flags offering a general overview on the topic that could help physicians to untangle mitochondrial medicine complexity.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Mitochondrial tRNA (MTT) genes are hotspot for mitochondrial DNA mutation and are responsible of half mitochondrial disease. MTT mutations are associated with a broad spectrum of phenotype often with complex multisystem involvement and complex genotype-phenotype correlations. MT-TL1 mutations, among which the m.3243A>G mutation is the most frequent, are associated with myopathy, maternal inherited diabetes and deafness, MELAS, cardiomyopathy, and focal segmental glomerulosclerosis. CASE STUDY Here we report the case of an Italian 49-years old female presenting with encephalomyopathy, chronic proteinuric kidney disease and a new heteroplasmic m.3274_3275delAC MT-TL1 gene mutation. CONCLUSIONS Our case demonstrates a systemic mitochondrial disease caused by the heteroplasmic m.3274_3275delAC MT-TL1 gene mutation, not yet described in the literature. A mitochondrial disease should be suspected in case of complex multisystem phenotypes, including steroid-resistant nephrotic syndrome with multisystemic involvement.

Abstract
Primary mitochondrial diseases are relatively common inborn errors of energy metabolism, with a combined prevalence of 1 in 4300. These disorders typically affect tissues with high energy requirements, including the brain. Epilepsy affects >1% of the worldwide population, making it one of the most common neurological illnesses; it may be the presenting feature of a mitochondrial disease, but is often part of a multisystem clinical presentation. The major genetic causes of mitochondrial epilepsy are mutations in mitochondrial DNA and in the nuclear-encoded gene POLG. Treatment of mitochondrial epilepsy may be challenging, often representing a poor prognostic feature. This narrative review will cover the most recent advances in the field of mitochondrial epilepsy, from pathophysiology and genetic etiologies to phenotype and treatment options.

Abstract
Ataxia is increasingly being recognized as a cardinal manifestation in primary mitochondrial diseases (PMDs) in both paediatric and adult patients. It can be caused by disruption of cerebellar nuclei or fibres, its connection with the brainstem, or spinal and peripheral lesions leading to proprioceptive loss. Despite mitochondrial ataxias having no specific defining features, they should be included in hereditary ataxias differential diagnosis, given the high prevalence of PMDs. This review focuses on the clinical and neuropathological features and genetic background of PMDs in which ataxia is a prominent manifestation.

Abstract
MELAS and CARASAL have been associated with clinical evidence of cognitive impairment and should be considered as possible causes of early onset Vascular Dementia (VaD), particularly in patients with a familial history of dementia or cerebrovascular disease. Cognitive deterioration in MELAS involves executive function, attention, language, memory, visuospatial, and motor functioning and may correlate with the total Stroke-like episodes (SLEs) lesion load. CARASIL is characterized by late and slow cognition disorders, involving episodic memory, executive functions and facial recognition.
Monogenic diseases, although rare, should be always considered in the diagnostic work up of vascular dementia (VaD), particularly in patients with early onset and a familial history of dementia or cerebrovascular disease. They include, other than CADASIL, Fabry disease, Col4A1-A2 related disorders, which are well recognized causes of VaD, other heritable diseases such as mitochondrial encephalopathy, lactic acidosis, and stroke-like episodes (MELAS) and cathepsin-A related arteriopathy strokes and leukoencephalopathy (CARASAL). MELAS, caused by mtDNA (80% of adult cases m.3243A>G mutations) and more rarely POLG1 mutations, has minimum prevalence of 3.5/100,000. CARASAL, which is caused by mutations in the CTSA gene, has been described in about 19 patients so far. In both these two disorders cognitive features have not been fully explored and are described only in case series or families. This review paper is aimed at providing an update on the clinical manifestations, with particular focus on cognitive aspects, but also neuroradiological and genetic features of these less frequent monogenic diseases associated with VaD.

Abstract
Introduction Both prevalence and clinical features of the various movement disorders in adults with primary mitochondrial diseases are unknown. Methods Based on the database of the “Nation-wide Italian Collaborative Network of Mitochondrial Diseases”, we reviewed the clinical, genetic, neuroimaging and neurophysiological data of adult patients with primary mitochondrial diseases (n = 764) where ataxia, myoclonus or other movement disorders were part of the clinical phenotype. Results Ataxia, myoclonus and movement disorders were present in 105/764 adults (13.7%), with the onset coinciding or preceding the diagnosis of the mitochondrial disease in 49/105 (46.7%). Ataxia and parkinsonism were the most represented, with an overall prevalence at last follow-up of 59.1% and 30.5%, respectively. Hyperkinetic movement disorders were reported in 15.3% at last follow-up, being the less common reported movement disorders. The pathogenic m.8344A > G and POLG variants were always associated with a movement disorder, while LHON variants and mtDNA single deletions were more commonly found in the subjects who did not present a movement disorder. The most common neuroimaging features were cortical and/or cerebellar atrophy, white matter hyperintensities, basal ganglia abnormalities and nigro-striatal degeneration. Almost 70% of patients with parkinsonism responded to dopaminergic therapy, mainly levodopa, and 50% with myoclonus were successfully treated with levetiracetam. Conclusion Movement disorders, mainly ataxia and parkinsonism, are important findings in adult primary mitochondrial diseases. This study underlies the importance of looking for a mitochondrial etiology in the diagnostic flowchart of a movement disorder and may help direct genetic screening in daily practice. Abstract
The effects of the soft block fraction and H-bond state in thermoplastic polyurethanes on autonomous entropy-driven scratch closure and barrier restoration are studied. To this aim, comparable polyurethanes with different segmentation states are applied as organic coatings on plain carbon steel plates, scratched under very well-controlled conditions, and the scratch closure and sealing kinetics are studied in detail. The scratch closure is measured optically, while the barrier restoration is probed by the accelerated cyclic electrochemical technique (ACET). Scratch closure, attributed to entropic elastic recovery (EER), is followed in a marked two-step process by barrier restoration governed by local viscous flow and the state of the interfacial hydrogen bonding. Polyurethanes with a lower soft phase fraction lead to a higher urea/urethane ratio, which in turn influences the healing efficiency of each healing step. Interestingly, softer polyurethanes leading to efficient crack closure were unable to sufficiently restore barrier properties. The present work highlights the critical role of the soft/hard block and urea/urethane H-bond state content on crack closure and barrier restoration of anticorrosive organic coatings and points at design rules for the design of more efficient corrosion-protective self-healing polyurethanes.

Abstract
The use of self-healing (SH) polymers to make 3D-printed polymeric parts offers the potential to increase the quality of 3D-printed parts and to increase their durability and damage tolerance due to their (on-demand) dynamic nature. Nevertheless, 3D-printing of such dynamic polymers is not a straightforward process due to their polymer architecture and rheological complexity and the limited quantities produced at lab-scale. This limits the exploration of the full potential of self-healing polymers. In this paper, we present the complete process for fused deposition modelling of a room temperature self-healing polyurethane. Starting from the synthesis and polymer slab manufacturing, we processed the polymer into a continuous filament and 3D printed parts. For the characterization of the 3D printed parts, we used a compression cut test, which proved useful when limited amount of material is available. The test was able to quasi-quantitatively assess both bulk and 3D printed samples and their self-healing behavior. The mechanical and healing behavior of the 3D printed self-healing polyurethane was highly similar to that of the bulk SH polymer. This indicates that the self-healing property of the polymer was retained even after multiple processing steps and printing. Compared to a commercial 3D-printing thermoplastic polyurethane, the self-healing polymer displayed a smaller mechanical dependency on the printing conditions with the added value of healing cuts at room temperature.

Abstract
Mitochondrial diseases are the most common inheritable metabolic diseases, due to defects in oxidative phosphorylation. They are caused by mutations of nuclear or mitochondrial DNA in genes involved in mitochondrial function. The peculiarity of "mitochondrial DNA genetics rules" in part explains the marked phenotypic variability, the complexity of genotype-phenotype correlations and the challenge of genetic counseling. The new massive genetic sequencing technologies have changed the diagnostic approach, enhancing mitochondrial DNA-related syndromes diagnosis and often avoiding the need of a tissue biopsy. Here we present the most common phenotypes associated with a mitochondrial DNA mutation with the recent advances in diagnosis and in therapeutic perspectives.

Abstract
Objective To determine whether a set of functional tests, clinical scales, patient-reported questionnaires, and specific biomarkers can be considered reliable outcome measures in patients with primary mitochondrial myopathy (PMM), we analyzed a cohort of Italian patients. Methods Baseline data were collected from 118 patients with PMM, followed by centers of the Italian network for mitochondrial diseases. We used the 6-Minute Walk Test (6MWT), Timed Up-and-Go Test (x3) (3TUG), Five-Times Sit-To-Stand Test (5XSST), Timed Water Swallow Test (TWST), and Test of Masticating and Swallowing Solids (TOMASS) as functional outcome measures; the Fatigue Severity Scale and West Haven-Yale Multidimensional Pain Inventory as patient-reported outcome measures; and FGF21, GDF15, lactate, and creatine kinase (CK) as biomarkers. Results A total of 118 PMM cases were included. Functional outcome measures (6MWT, 3TUG, 5XSST, TWST, and TOMASS) and biomarkers significantly differed from healthy reference values and controls. Moreover, functional measures correlated with patients' perceived fatigue and pain severity. Patients with either mitochondrial or nuclear DNA point mutations performed worse in functional measures than patients harboring single deletion, even if the latter had an earlier age at onset but similar disease duration. Both the biomarkers FGF21 and GDF15 were significantly higher in the patients compared with a matched control population; however, there was no relation with severity of disease. Conclusions We characterized a large cohort of PMM by evaluating baseline mitochondrial biomarkers and functional scales that represent potential outcome measures to monitor the efficacy of treatment in clinical trials; these outcome measures will be further reinvestigated longitudinally to define the natural history of PMM.

Abstract
The use of rheology and terminal flow relaxation times to predict healing behavior at long healing times is by now quite well accepted. In this work we go one step further and explore the use of macro-rheology (in particular the stored work of deformation) to predict the early stage interfacial healing properties (fracture resistance) of a set of self-healing polyurethanes. The interfacial healing is measured by single edge notch fracture experiments, using short healing times and a low healing temperature to exclude the effect of long range molecular motion on mechanical properties restoration. The systems based on aromatic diisocyanates show high fracture resistance after healing, while very limited restoration of the mechanical properties is observed for aliphatic and cycloaliphatic based polyurethanes. Linear sweep rheology and time-temperature-superposition allow obtaining the macro-rheological master curve and the mechanical relaxation spectra (H(t)). The application of a recently established deconvolution protocol to the H(t) gives the characteristic relaxation times and stored works of deformation associated to individual dynamic processes such as segmental motion, reversible bonds, and terminal flow. It is found that the calculated stored works of deformation related to the reversible bond relaxation reproduce the trend observed by fracture resistance at healed interfaces and reveal a qualitative correspondence between reversible bonds work of deformation and interfacial healing fracture resistance. Moreover, the method seems to point to the existence of a threshold interfacial work of deformation below which no efficient load transfer can be observed.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Fabry disease (FD) is an X-linked lysosomal storage disorder, caused by deficient activity of the alpha-galactosidase A enzyme leading to progressive and multisystemic accumulation of globotriaosylceramide. Recent data point toward oxidative stress signalling which could play an important role in both pathophysiology and disease progression. METHODS We have examined oxidative stress biomarkers [Advanced Oxidation Protein Products (AOPP), Ferric Reducing Antioxidant Power (FRAP), thiolic groups] in blood samples from 60 patients and 77 healthy controls. RESULTS AOPP levels were higher in patients than in controls (p < 0.00001) and patients presented decreased levels of antioxidant defences (FRAP and thiols) with respect to controls (p < 0.00001). In a small group of eight treatment-naïve subjects with FD-related mutations, we found altered levels of oxidative stress parameters and incipient signs of organ damage despite normal lyso-Gb3 levels. CONCLUSIONS Oxidative stress occurs in FD in both treated and naïve patients, highlighting the need of further research in oxidative stress-targeted therapies. Furthermore, we found that oxidative stress biomarkers may represent early markers of disease in treatment-naïve patients with a potential role in helping interpretation of FD-related mutations and time to treatment decision.

Abstract
In this work, we propose the use of regular branching of polyurethanes as a way to regulate chain dynamics and govern crystallization in highly dense hydrogen-bonded systems. As a result, robust and healable polyurethanes can be obtained. To this end, we synthesized a range of aliphatic propane diol derivatives with alkyl branches ranging from butyl (C4) to octadecanyl (C18). The series of brush polyurethanes was synthesized by polyaddition of the diols and hexamethylene diisocyanate. Polyurethanes with very short (C < 4) and very long (C = 18) brush lengths did not lead to any significant healing due to crystallization. An intermediate amorphous regime appears for polymers with middle branch lengths (C = 4 to 8) showing a fine control of material toughness. For these systems, the side chain length regulates tube dilation, and significant macroscopic healing of cut samples was observed and studied in detail using melt rheology and tensile testing. Despite the high healing degrees observed immediately after repair, it was found that samples with medium to long length brushes lost their interfacial strength at the healed site after being heated to the healing temperature for some time after the optimal time to reach full healing. Dedicated testing suggests that annealed samples, while keeping initial tackiness, are not able to completely heal the cut interface. We attribute such behavior to annealing-induced interfacial crystallization promoted by the aliphatic branches. Interestingly, no such loss of healing due to annealing was observed for samples synthesized with C4 and C7 diols, which is identified as the optimal healing regime. These results point at the positive effect of branching on healing, provided that a critical chain length is not surpassed, as well as the need to study healing behavior long after the optimal healing times.

Abstract
Background: Leukoaraiosis (LA) is a common radiological finding in elderly, frequently associated with several clinical disorders, including unexplained dizziness. The pathogenesis of LA is multifactorial, with a dysfunction of cerebral microcirculation resulting in chronic hypoperfusion and tissue loss, with oxidative stress involved in this cascade. Objective: The aim of this study was to analyse some oxidative stress biomarkers in a cohort of LA patients. Method: Fifty-five consecutive patients (33 males, median age 75 years) with LA were recruited. In a subgroup of 33 patients with LA and unexplained dizziness, we have then performed an open study to evaluate if 60-day supplementation with a polyphenol compound may modify these biomarkers and influence quality of life, analysed with the Dizziness Handicap Inventory (DHI) scale. Results: At baseline, blood oxidative stress parameters values were outside normal ranges and compared to matched healthy controls. After the two months supplementation, we observed a significant decrement of advanced oxidation protein products values and a significant improvement of DHI. Conclusion: Oxidative stress biomarkers may be useful to detect redox imbalance in LA and to provide non-invasive tools to monitor disease status and response to therapy.

Abstract
Starting from experimental macro-rheological data, we develop a fitting protocol that succeeded in the separation of the overlapping relaxation phenomena in the dissipative regime for a set of intrinsic healing polymers healing most effectively near their glass transition temperature Tg. To allow for a proper deconvolution, the rheological master curves are converted to a relaxation spectrum (H(τ)) and this is fitted using an optimized mechanical model, e.g. the Maxwell-Weichert model. The deconvolution of overlapping segmental mobility and reversible interactions is successfully demonstrated for a set of polyimide and polyamide polymers containing none, one and two reversible dynamic features near-Tg. Through the fitting parameters, the relaxation timescale of each feature and their apparent process enthalpies are obtained. The quantitative data obtained using the fitting protocol are then compared to macroscopic healing results. As a result, a clear correspondence between the energy stored by the system to accomplish reversible (e.g. H-bonds, π-π) and chain interdiffusion relaxation transitions and the healing efficiency of such polymers are obtained. The implementation of this protocol allows for a clearer identification of the relevant mechanisms in self-healing polymers and paves the way for the development of more efficiently healable polymeric systems.

Abstract
Common cerebral small vessel disease (cSVD) abnormalities are a common neuroradiological finding, especially in the elderly. They are associated with a wide clinical spectrum that leads to an increasing disability, impaired global function outcome and a reduced quality of life. A strong association is demonstrated with age and hypertension and other common vascular risk factors, including diabetes mellitus, dyslipoproteinemia, smoking, low vitamin B12 level, and hyperomocysteinemia. Although these epidemiological associations suggest a systemic involvement, etiopathogenetic mechanisms remain unclear. This review focuses on the potential role of endothelial dysfunction and oxidative stress in the pathogenic cascade leading to cSVD. We stressed on the central role of those pathways, and suggest the importance of quantifying the cerebral (and non-only) "endotheliopathic and oxidative load" and its clinical presentation that could lead to a better determination of vascular risk degree. In addition, understanding underlying pathogenic mechanisms could allow us to slow down the progression of vascular damage and, therefore, prevent the disability due to reiterated microvascular damage.

Abstract
Spontaneous dissection of cervical arteries (sCAD) is a major cause of ischemic stroke in young patients, with an incidence varying from 1.7 to 3/100,000/year for extracranial internal carotid artery (ICAD) and 1 to 1.9/100,000/year for extracranial vertebral artery (VAD). Reliable epidemiological data on stroke incidence related to sCAD are scarce in Italy. This study aims to evaluate the incidence, clinical features, and outcome of cerebrovascular events related to sCAD and spontaneous intracranial arteries dissections (sIAD) in the city of Pisa (Italy). We retrospectively analyzed consecutive patients admitted between December 1997 and June 2015 with a diagnosis of stroke, TIA, or Bernard-Horner syndrome due to acute cervical or intracranial artery dissection. Considering that our hospital collects presumptively all patients hospitalized with sCAD coming from the referral geographical area, data may provide a good approximation to real incidence of sCAD in our population. Clinical and radiological features, acute treatment and outcome were collected. Seventy-seven cases were included (mean age 48.1±10.4 years, range 23-77,72.7% males), 66 residents in the district of Pisa. Crude incidence rate of cerebrovascular events due to intra or extracranial dissection was 1.88/100,000/year. The incidence of ICAD was 0.80/100,000/year and 0.43/100,000/year for VAD. Stroke occurred in 76.6% of patients. VAD was more prone to cause ischemic stroke and present with cervical pain or focal signs (p < 0.01) than ICAD group, which had older age at onset. sIAD were more frequent in the posterior circle (p = 0.01) and more associated with ischemic lesions. A good outcome (mRS 0-2) was observed in 79% of patients. This is the first epidemiological attempt to investigate impact of sCAD and sIAD in Italy.

Abstract
The common m.3243A > G mutation of the mitochondrial DNA tRNALeu (UUR) gene is a maternally inherited mutation causing a wide spectrum of neurological and multisystemic disorders, including MELAS, characterized by recurrent cerebral infarction from young age. Vascular pathology in mitochondrial diseases has been described for small vessels, while large vessels involvement in mitochondrial diseases is considered rare. Here we report two female patients harboring the m.3243A > G mutation, in whom the diagnosis of mitochondrial disease was made after acute dissection of the internal carotid arteries. Our cases expand the clinical spectrum of this mutation, and support the idea of large vessels vasculopathy due to impaired mitochondrial function in the vessel wall that may lead to arterial wall weakness. Thus, stroke in mitochondrial diseases could also be related to large vessels disease, but further studies are strongly needed. Moreover, mitochondrial aetiology should be kept in mind in patients with large vessel dissection, especially in those with additional mitochondrial red flags.

Abstract
MELAS syndrome (mitochondrial encephalopathy with lactic acidosis and stroke-like episodes) is a rare genetic condition whose differential diagnosis is often posed with juvenile stroke, but more rarely even with inflammatory/infectious encephalitis, causing diagnostic challenges. Here we report the case of a young man harbouring the m.3243A>G MELAS mutation presenting an acute onset mimicking the clinical and neuroimaging features of infective encephalitis.

Abstract
Background Stroke may be a clinical expression of several inherited disorders in humans. Recognition of the underlined genetic disorders causing stroke is important for a correct diagnosis, for genetic counselling and, even if rarely, for a correct therapeutic management. Moreover, the genetics of complex diseases such the stroke, in which multiple genes interact with environmental risk factors to increase risk, has been revolutionized by the Genome-Wide Association Study (GWAS) approach. Scope of review Here we review the single-gene causes of ischemic stroke, bringing the reader from the candidate gene method toward the exciting new horizons of genetic technology. Major conclusions The aetiological diagnosis of ischemic stroke in young adults is more complex than in the elderly. The identification of a genetic cause is important to provide appropriate counseling and to start a correct therapy, when available. The advent of GWAS technology, such as for other complex pathological conditions, has contributed enormously to the understanding of many of these genetic bases. For success large, well phenotyped case cohorts are required, and international collaborations are essential. General significance This review focuses on the main causes of genetically-based ischemic stroke in young adults, often classified as indeterminate, investigating also the recent findings of the GWAS, in order to improve diagnostic and therapeutic management. The aetiological diagnosis of stroke in young adults needs a different and more complex diagnostic work up than in older adults. Stroke may be a clinical expression of several inherited disorders in humans. The most common genetic causes of stroke are CADASIL, Fabry and mitochondrial diseases. Recognition of the underlined genetic disorders causing stroke is important for the correct management of the patient.

Abstract
Stroke is a complex disease resulting from the interplay of genetics and environment. In some instances (mainly in young adults) stroke is the direct result of a monogenic disease. Among the monogenic causes of stroke, the diseases which are most frequently encountered in the adult general neurological practice are CADASIL, Fabry and mitochondrial diseases. Brain MRI and clinical features may frequently lead to a correct molecular diagnosis. Here we review the single-gene causes of ischemic stroke, with special regard to the associated features which may help in the diagnostic approach.

Abstract
The effects of a single oral dose of phenobarbital (PB) on the 24 h secretion of prolactin, growth hormone and luteinizing hormone have been evaluated in normal women. An EEG record was taken and barbiturate levels assayed in serum. A statistically significant decrease of growth hormone 24 h mean levels was observed and growth hormone and prolactin values during sleep were diminished. No changes in luteinizing hormone concentrations were observed. After PB the EEG showed no important alterations in sleep pattern, but on the power analysis an increase above 16 Hz absolute power was detected during the waking period.

Abstract
To evaluate the role of endogenous opioid peptides in prolactin (Prl), growth hormone (GH) and cortisol neuroregulation, 50 mg of the opiate antagonist naloxone was infused over 24 h to 6 normal male volunteers. An additional naloxone dose (5 mg) was given iv as a bolus injection at 20.00 h. blood specimens were collected hourly by means of a portable constant withdrawal pump. Naloxone failed to alter 24 h secretion of GH and Prl. The sleep-related GH and Prl rise was also unaffected by the opiate blocker. Moreover, naloxone failed to alter the circadian rhythm of cortisol and its 24 h concentration. The results do not suggest, a major role of opiate receptors in spontaneous GH, Prl and cortisol secretion in man.

Abstract
Regional cerebral blood flow (CBF) was measured in 15 healthy young volunteers in psycho-sensorial rest by the 32 probes Xe133 inhalation system. The mean hemispheric values are in good agreement with those reported in literature and obtained with a limited number of probes. The regional values of the flow in the gray matter are higher in the basal-temporal and frontal regions. This regional pattern is not evident for the other considered parameters (flow in the white matter, mean flow, "weight" of the gray matter).
