Abstract
Netrin-1 (NTN-1) plays a vital role in the progress of nervous system development and inflammatory diseases. However, the role and underlying mechanism of NTN-1 in inflammatory pain (IP) are unclear. BV2 microglia were treated with LPS to mimic the cell status under IP. Adeno-associated virus carrying the NTN-1 gene (AAV-NTN-1) was used to overexpress NTN-1. Complete Freund's Adjuvant (CFA)-induced mouse was recruited as an in vivo model. MTT and commercial kits were utilized to evaluate cell viability and cell death of BV2 cells. The mRNA expressions and secretions of cytokines were measured using the ELISA method. Also, the pyroptosis and activation of BV2 cells were investigated based on western blotting. To verify the role of Rac1/NF-kappaB signaling, isochamaejasmin (ISO) and AAV-Rac1 were presented. The results showed that NTN-1 expression was decreased in LPS-treated BV2 microglia and spinal cord tissues of CFA-injected mice. Overexpressing NTN-1 dramatically reversed cell viability and decreased cell death rate of BV2 microglia under lipopolysaccharide (LPS) stimulation, while the level of pyroptosis was inhibited. Besides, AAV-NTN-1 rescued the activation of microglia and inflammatory injury induced by LPS, decreasing IBA-1 expression, as well as iNOS, IL-1beta and IL-6 secretions. Meanwhile AAV-NTN-1 promoted the anti-inflammation response, including increases in Arg-1, IL-4 and IL-10 levels. In addition, the LPS-induced activation of Rac1/NF-kappaB signaling was depressed by NTN-1 overexpression. The same results were verified in a CFA-induced mouse model. In conclusion, NTN-1 alleviated IP by suppressing pyroptosis and promoting M2 type activation of microglia via inhibiting Rac1/NF-?B signaling, suggesting the protective role of NTN-1 in IP. Abstract
PURPOSE To investigate how sleeve gastrectomy (SG), a typical operation of bariatric surgery, attenuated symptom, and progression of diabetic kidney disease (DKD). METHODS DKD model was induced by high-fat diet (HFD) combined with streptozocin in Wistar rats. SG was performed, and the group subjected to sham surgery served as control. The animals were euthanized 12 weeks after surgery, followed by sample collection for the subsequent experiment. The HK-2, a renal proximal tubular epithelial cell line derived from human, was utilized to investigate the potential mechanisms. RESULTS SG improved metabolic parameters and glucose homeostasis, and could alleviate DKD in terms of renal function indices as well as histological and morphological structures in DM rats, accompanied with a significant reduction in renal tubular injury. Compared with sham group, SG reduced the renal tubular ferroptosis. To further clarify the mechanism involved, in vitro experiments were performed. In the presence of high glucose, renal tubular TGF-β1 secretion was significantly increased in HK-2 cell line, which led to activation of ferroptosis through TGF-β1/Smad3 signaling pathway. Inhibition of TGF-β1 receptor and phosphorylation of Smad3 significantly ameliorated TGF-β1-mediated ferroptosis. In vivo experiments also found that SG improved the hyperglycemic environment, reduced renal TGF-β1 concentrations, and down-regulated the TGF-β1/Smad3 signaling pathway. CONCLUSIONS With the capacity to lower the glucose, SG could attenuate the ferroptosis by inhibiting TGF-β1/Smad3 signaling pathway in DKD rats, and eventually attenuated DKD.

Abstract
Purpose Variants in the ARR3 gene have been linked to early-onset high myopia (eoHM) with a unique X-linked female-limited inheritance. However, the clinical validity of this gene-disease association has not been systematically evaluated. Methods We identified two Chinese families with novel ARR3 splicing variants associated with eoHM. Minigene constructs were generated to assess the effects of the variants on splicing. We integrated previous evidence to curate the clinical validity of ARR3 and eoHM using the ClinGen framework. Results The variants c.39+1G>A and c.100+4A>G were identified in the two families. Minigene analysis showed both variants resulted in abnormal splicing and introduction of premature termination codons. Based on genetic and experimental evidence, the ARR3-eoHM relationship was classified as "definitive." Conclusions Our study identified two novel splicing variants of the ARR3 gene linked to eoHM and confirmed their functional validity via minigene assay. This research expanded the mutational spectrum of ARR3 and confirmed the minigene assay technique as an effective tool for understanding variant effects on splicing mechanisms.

Abstract
Defective decidualization of endometrial stromal cells (ESCs) in endometriosis (EM) patients leads to inadequate endometrial receptivity and EM-associated infertility. Hypoxia is an inevitable pathological process of EM and participates in deficient decidualization of the eutopic secretory endometrium. Enhancer of zeste homology 2 (EZH2) is a methyltransferase which catalyses H3K27Me3, leading to decreased expression levels of target genes. Although EZH2 expression is low under normal decidualization, it is abundantly increased in the eutopic secretory endometrium of EM and is induced by hypoxia. Chromatin immunoprecipitation-PCR results revealed that decidua marker IGFBP1 is a direct target of EZH2, partially explaining the increased levels of histone methylation modification in defected decidualization of EM. To mechanism controlling this, we examined the effects of hypoxia on EZH2 and decidualization. EZH2 mRNA showed decreased m6 A modification and increased expression levels under hypoxia and decidualization combined treatment. Increased EZH2 expression was due to the increased expression of m6 A demethylase ALKBH5 and decreased expression of the m6 A reader protein YTHDF2. YTHDF2 directly bind to the m6 A modification site of EZH2 to promote EZH2 mRNA degradation in ESCs. Moreover, selective Ezh2 depletion in mouse ESCs increased endometrial receptivity and improved mouse fertility by up-regulating decidua marker IGFBP1 expression. This is the first report showing that YTHDF2 can act as a m6 A reader to promote decidualization by decreasing the stability of EZH2 mRNA and further increasing the expression of IGFBP1 in ESCs. Taken together, our findings highlight the critical role of EZH2/H3K27Me3 in decidualization and reveal a novel epigenetic mechanism by which hypoxia can suppress EM decidualization by decreasing the m6 A modification of EZH2 mRNA.

Abstract
Behavioural flexibility is key to survival in a dynamic environmentWhile flexible, goal-directed behaviours are initially dependent on dorsomedial striatum, they become dependent on lateral striatum as behaviours become inflexible. Similarly, lesions of dopamine terminals in lateral striatum disrupt the development of inflexible habits. This work suggests that dopamine release in lateral striatum may drive inflexible behaviours, though few studies have investigated a causative role of subpopulations of striatal dopamine terminals in reversal learning, a measure of flexibility. Here, we performed two optogenetic experiments to activate dopamine terminals in dorsomedial (DMS), dorsolateral (DLS) or ventral (nucleus accumbens [NAc]) striatum in DAT-Cre mice that expressed channelrhodopsin-2 via viral injection (Experiment I) or through transgenic breeding with an Ai32 reporter line (Experiment II) to determine how specific dopamine subpopulations impact reversal learning. Mice performed a reversal task in which they self-stimulated DMS, DLS, or NAc dopamine terminals by pressing one of two levers before action-outcome lever contingencies were reversed. Largely consistent with presumed ventromedial/lateral striatal function, we found that mice self-stimulating medial dopamine terminals reversed lever preference following contingency reversal, while mice self-stimulating NAc showed parial flexibility, and DLS self-stimulation resulted in impaired reversal. Impairments in DLS mice were characterized by more regressive errors and reliance on lose-stay strategies following reversal, as well as reduced within-session learning, suggesting reward insensitivity and overreliance on previously learned actions. This study supports a model of striatal function in which DMS and ventral dopamine facilitate goal-directed responding, and DLS dopamine supports more inflexible responding.

Abstract
Slow electron migration in iron sulfide nanoparticles (C-FeS NPs) synthesized by co-precipitation severely limits the activation performance of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). Herein, a biofunctional FeS NPs (P-FeS NPs) derived from Pinus massoniana Lamb biomass, with interface coupling effect, was used for enhanced H2O2 activation and norfloxacin (NOR) degradation. It was discovered that P-FeS NPs exhibited superior catalytic activity (100%) compared to C-FeS NPs (53.1%). Fe atoms of FeS NPs and hydroxyl groups (-OH) of Pinus massoniana Lamb biomass were mutually coupled to produce Fe-OH interfacial sites, which significantly increased the generation of multi-reactive species by accelerating the transfer of electrons across interfaces. Additionally, radical quenching tests elucidated that singlet oxygen (1O2) (66.6%) played a leading role, while hydroxyl radicals (•OH) (14.5%) and superoxide radicals (•O2-) (18.9%) were secondary oxidants. Finally, P-FeS NPs showed a high tolerance to a wide range of pH conditions and could remove 96.4% NOR from wastewater. Overall, this work generates important insights into understanding how green sustainable interfacial catalysts can accelerate catalytic activity.

Abstract
In order to improve the utilization rate of coal gangue and expand the application range of coal gangue concrete (CGC), a certain proportion of steel fiber was added to the concrete, and the freeze-thaw cycles (FTCs) and flexural tests were used to explore the effects of different mass replacement rates of coal gangue (0%, 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%) and different proportions of the volumetric blending of the steel fiber (0%, 0.8%, 1.0%, and 1.2%) on the frost resistance of steel fiber-reinforced CGC (SCGC). The governing laws of mass loss rate, relative dynamic elastic modulus and load-midspan deflection curve were obtained on the base of the analysis of testing results. The damage mechanisms of the SCGC under the FTCs were analyzed using the results of scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Based on the Lemaitre's strain equivalence principle and Krajcinovic's vector damage theory, a damage evolution model of the SCGC under the FTCs was established by introducing the damage variable of the SCGC satisfying Weibull distribution. The results show an increasing mass loss rate of the SCGC and a decreasing relative dynamic elastic modulus with an increasing mass replacement rate of coal gangue. The proper content of the steel fiber can reduce the mass loss rate of concrete by 10~40% and the relative loss rate of dynamic elastic modulus of concrete by 2~8%, thus significantly improving the ductility and toughness of the concrete. The established damage evolution model is well validated by the experimental results, which further help to improve the modelling accuracy. This study provides key experimental data and a theoretical basis for a wider range of proper utilization of coal gangue in cold regions.

Abstract
Although carbon-nano zero-valent iron (C@nZVI) composites with unique properties have been used for environmental remediation, the origins of their superior properties and multifunctionalities of C@nZVI still need to be verified. Here, iron precursor nanoparticles (PML-Fe NPs) synthesized by Pinus massoniana Lamb and carbonized C@nZVI were systemically compared to reveal the origins of the structure and performance of C@nZVI composites. Characterizations showed that structure-modulated C@nZVI has favorable properties of good crystallinity, graphite carbon-rich structure but also defects when compared to PML-Fe NPs. The resultant carbon layer fundamentally improved its dispersion and anti-oxidation properties. Further experiments demonstrated that the evolution of material crystallinity, graphitization and defects affected the reaction pathway of hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)), oxytetracycline hydrochloride (OTC), and 17β-estradiol (βE2). The multifunctionalities covered adsorption, reduction and catalytic oxidation. This study explains the origins of multifunctional C@nZVI by understanding the structure-property correlation in the carbonization process.

Abstract
PURPOSE/OBJECTIVE(S) Rectal cancer patients reaching complete clinical response (cCR) after neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy can be offered a nonoperative watch-and-wait (W&W) strategy. As evidence of good oncological outcomes accumulates, the functional outcomes remain less explored. The aim of this study is to comprehensively assess the long-term rectal toxicity and anorectal function in patients managed by a W&W strategy and to investigate the clinical risk factors for anorectal dysfunction. MATERIALS/METHODS Seventy W&W patients who were disease-free at the moment of recruitment were included. A minimum 2-year follow-up was considered. We graded late rectal toxicity according to the Radiation Therapy Oncology Group/European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer (RTOG/EORTC) scale and the Late Effects of Normal Tissue/Subjective Objective Management Analytic (LENT/SOMA) system. Long-term anorectal function was assessed with the Wexner score, the Low Anterior Resection Syndrome score (LARS score), and the Memorial Sloan Kettering Bowel Function Instrument (MSK BFI). RESULTS All patients received standard chemoradiotherapy consisting of a total dose of 5000 cGy in 25 fractions. The median tumor distance from the anal verge was 3 (IQR 2-4) cm. After a median follow-up of 43 (IQR 28-66) months, less than half of patients developed Grade 1 (40.0%) or Grade 2 (1.4%) late rectal toxicity, and no patients complained of higher grades. LENT/SOMA criteria also identified more patients with mild symptoms. The most frequent symptoms were sphincter control problems, mainly manifested as fecal urgency, reported by 60.0% of patients. For long-term anorectal function, the median LARS score was 16 (IQR 4-25). 17.1% of patients reported minor LARS and 15.7% reported major LARS. The median Wexner score was 2 (IQR 0-3). The median MSK BFI total score was 82 (IQR 77-86). Smoking history was an independent risk factor for anorectal dysfunction in multivariate analyses (OR = 6.491, 95% CI 1.536-27.432). CONCLUSION Rectal cancer patients managed by a watch-and-wait strategy after neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy have retained satisfactory anorectal function. However, fecal urgency might be a common problem. Smoking history was an independent risk factor for long-term anorectal dysfunction. Prospective studies with emphasis on bowel function outcomes containing a larger number of patients are needed.

Abstract
Severe endometrium damage causes pathological conditions such as thin endometrium and intrauterine adhesion, resulting in uterine factor infertility. Mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) therapy is a promising strategy in endometrial repair; yet, exogenous MSCs still raise concerns for safety and ethical issues. Human adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (ADMSCs) residing in adipose tissue have high translational potentials due to their autologous origin. To harness the high translation potentials of ADMSC in clinical endometrium regeneration, here we constructed an ADMSCs composited porous scaffold (CS/ADMSC) and evaluated its effectiveness on endometrial regeneration in a rat endometrium-injury model. We found that CS/ADMSC intrauterine implantation (i) promoted endometrial thickness and gland number, (ii) enhanced tissue angiogenesis, (iii) reduced fibrosis and (iv) restored fertility. We ascertained the pro-proliferation, pro-angiogenesis, immunomodulating and anti-fibrotic effects of CS/ADMSC in vitro and revealed that the CS/ADMSC influenced extracellular matrix composition and organization by a transcriptomic analysis. Our results demonstrated the effectiveness of CS/ADMSC for endometrial regeneration and provided solid proof for our future clinical study.

Abstract
To evaluate the association between the number of oocytes retrieved and cumulative live birth rate (CLBR) in different female age strata. 17,931 women undergoing their first IVF/ICSI-ET cycle in the Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital of Zhejiang University were grouped by age (A: ≤ 35 years; B: ≥ 36 years) as well as the number of oocytes retrieved (a: ≤ 5; b:6-9; c:10-14; d: ≥ 15). Multivariate regression analysis was performed to assess the OR of CLBR for the variable 'age' and 'number of oocytes retrieved'. The group ≥ 36 years exhibited lower cumulative pregnancy rates (CPRs) and cumulative live birth rates (CLBRs), which are proportional to the number of oocytes retrieved but opposite to increasing age. Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that the age and number of oocytes retrieved remain significant independent predictive factors (P < 0.001). Age and number of oocytes retrieved are two independent factors affecting the CLBR. The discrepancy of the minimum number of oocytes retrieved for patients with different ages to achieve ideal CLBR is instructive for clinical practice. The practice of controlling the stimulation dose is feasible for patients ≤ 35 years who can achieve over 60% CLBR once the number of oocytes obtained is more than 6. However, additional stimulation cycles and accumulation of embryos are necessary for elderly group especially those ≥ 38 years old who need more than 14 oocytes to obtain higher live birth rate.

Abstract
Objective: This study was to investigate the main characteristics and related factors of wideband absorbance (WBA) in children with normal hearing and to obtain age-specific reference range of WBA. Methods: 384 children between 0-12 years old (615 ears) who visited the Beijing Children's Hospital, Capital Medical University from October 2019 to February 2021 were enrolled, including 230 males (376 ears) and 154 females (239 ears), with totally 306 left ears and 309 right ears. Wideband tympanometry (WBT) was performed and normative WBA data were analyzed by SPSS 24.0 statistical software. Repeated measures and multivariate analysis of variance were applied to the data from 16 points at 1/3-octave frequencies (226, 324, 408, 500, 667, 841, 1 000, 1 297, 1 682, 2 000, 2 670, 3 364, 4 000, 5 339, 6 727 and 8 000 Hz) to evaluate the effects of frequency, age, external auditory canal pressures, gender and ear on WBA. Results: According to the WBT frequency-absorbance curve, the subjects were divided into seven groups: 1-month old group, 2-month old group, 3-month old group, 4-5 month old group, 6-24 month old group,>2-6 year old group and>6-12 year old group. The WBA of normal-hearing children underwent a series of developmental changes with age at both ambient pressure and tympanometric peak pressures. WBA results for 1-month group and 2-month old group exhibited a multipeaked pattern, with the peaks occurring around 2 000 and 4 897 Hz, and a notch around 3 886 Hz. WBA results for 3-month group and 4-5 month old group exhibited a single broad-peaked pattern, with the peak occurring between 2 000-4 757 Hz. The WBA of 1-month old group to 4-5 month old group decreased gradually at low frequency (226-408 Hz) and 6 727 Hz, and increased at middle to high frequency (2 670-4 000 Hz). The WBA of 6-24 month old group were significantly lower than that of 2-month old group to 4-5 month old group at all frequencies except 3 364 and 4 000 Hz. WBA results for 6-24 month old group,>2-6 year old group and>6-12 year old group exhibited a single-peaked pattern, and the peak frequency of WBA moved to the lower frequency successively. From 6-24 month old group to>6-12 year old group, the WBA gradually increased at low to middle frequencies (667-2 670 Hz) and 8 000 Hz, and decreased at middle to high frequencies (3 364-5 339 Hz). Among the 16 frequencies of all age groups, the difference between WBA under ambient pressure and tympanometric peak pressure were -0.09-0.06, and 43.75%-81.25% frequency points had statistically significant difference, which was mainly manifested in that WBA under ambient pressure were lower than that under tympanometric peak pressure at 226-1 682 Hz. There was no significant ear effect on all of the age groups. Similarly, there was no significant gender effect except for 3-month old group and 4-5 month old group. Conclusions: The WBA of normal-hearing children measured at ambient pressure and tympanometric peak pressure varied across the frequencies with age from 1 month to 12 years old, and different frequencies followed different change patterns (increase vs. decrease) in WBA. There was also significant external auditory canal pressures effect on all of the age groups. The establishment of age-specific reference range of WBA for 0-12 years old normal-hearing children in this study would be useful for clinical practice of determining normative data regarding WBT.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To investigate the changes in gray matter volume in depressive-like mice and explore the possible mechanism. METHODS Twenty-four 6-week-old C57 mice were randomized equally into control group and model group, and the mice in the model group were subjected to chronic unpredictable mild stimulation (CUMS) for 35 days. Magnetic resonance imaging was performed to examine structural changes of the grey matter volume in depressive-like mice. The expression of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) in the grey matter of the mice was detected using Western blotting and immunofluorescence staining. RESULTS Compared with the control mice, the mice with CUMS showed significantly decreased central walking distance in the open field test (P < 0.05) and increased immobile time in forced swimming test (P < 0.05). Magnetic resonance imaging showed that the volume of the frontal cortex was significantly decreased in CUMS mice (P < 0.001, when the mass level was greater than or equal to 10 756, the FDRc was corrected with P=0.05). Western blotting showed that the expression of mature BDNF in the frontal cortex was significantly decreased in CUMS mice (P < 0.05), and its expression began to decrease after the exposure to CUMS as shown by immunofluorescence staining. The volume of different clusters obtained by voxel-based morphometry (VBM) analysis was correlated with the expression level of mature BDNF detected by Western blotting (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION The decrease of frontal cortex volume after CUMS is related with the reduction of mature BDNF expression in the frontal cortex.

Abstract
Despite the oxidation mechanism of antimonite (Sb(Ⅲ)) by biosynthesized iron nanoparticles (Fe NPs) has been reported, the impact of coexisting components in acid mine drainage (AMD) on the Sb(III) oxidation by Fe NPs is unknown. Herein, how the coexisting components in AMD affect Sb(Ⅲ) oxidation by Fe NPs was investigated. Firstly, Fe NPs achieved complete oxidation of Sb(Ⅲ) (100%), while only 65.0% of Sb(Ⅲ) was oxidized when As(Ⅲ) was added, due to competitive oxidation between As(Ⅲ) and Sb(Ⅲ), which was verified by characterization analysis. Secondly, the decline in solution pH improved Sb(Ⅲ) oxidation from 69.5% (pH 4) to 100% (pH 2), which could be attributed to the rise of Fe3+ in solution promoting the electron transfer between Sb(Ⅲ) and Fe NPs. Thirdly, the oxidation efficiencies of Sb(Ⅲ) fell by 14.9 and 44.2% following the addition of oxalic and citric acid, respectively, resulting from the fact that these two acids reduced the redox potential of Fe NPs, thereby inhibiting Sb(Ⅲ) oxidation by Fe NPs. Finally, the interference effect of coexisting ions was studied, where PO43- significantly reduced Sb(Ⅲ) oxidation efficiency due to the occupation of the surface-active sites on Fe NPs. Overall, this study has significant implications for the prevention of Sb contamination in AMD.

Abstract
Over the last 40 years, a burrowing mammal eradication policy has been prevalent on the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau (QTP). This policy is based on similar burrowing mammal eradication programs in other areas and is justified on the assumptions that burrowing mammals compete with livestock for forage and contribute to grassland degradation. However, there is no clear theoretical or experimental evidence supporting these assumptions. This paper synthesizes the ecological functioning of small burrowing mammals in natural grasslands and discusses the irrationality and consequences of burrowing mammal eradication for sustainable livestock grazing and grassland degradation. Past burrowing mammal eradication efforts have failed because increased food availability for the remaining rodents and reduced predator populations led to rapid population rebounds. Herbivores differ in diet, and there is clear evidence that burrowing mammals, especially plateau zokors Myospalax baileyi, have a different diet than livestock. In QTP meadows, burrowing mammal eradication induces a shift towards plant communities with fewer species preferred by livestock and more species preferred by burrowing mammals. Thus, eradicating burrowing mammals has the opposite effect, a reduction in livestock preferred vegetation. We suggest that the policy of poisoning burrowing mammals needs to be reconsidered and revoked as soon as possible. We argue that incorporating density-dependent factors such as predation and food availability are essential for maintaining a low burrowing mammal density. For degraded grasslands, we suggest that the optimal sustainable approach is to decrease the intensity of livestock grazing. Lower grazing induces changes in vegetation structure and plant species composition that increases predation on burrowing mammals and decreases the abundance of plants preferred by burrowing mammals. Such a nature-based grassland management system maintains the density of burrowing mammals at a low stable density while minimizing human management and interventions.

Abstract
RATIONALE Placental mesenchymal dysplasia (PMD) is a rare placental disease frequently associated with severe maternal and/or fetal complications. Its sonographic appearance is very similar to that of a hydatidiform mole. Hence, PMD is easily misdiagnosed as a hydatidiform mole. In this study, we reported the clinical features of PMD and analyzed its relationship to other severe maternal and/or fetal complications. PATIENT CONCERNS A 28-year-old female, gravida 2, para 1, was referred to our maternal and child health hospital at 15 weeks + 2 days due to an ultrasonic diagnosis of partial hydatidiform mole. Analysis of chromosome karyotype + mononucleotide-based gene microarray by amniocentesis at the 19th week of gestation showed that fetal amniocentesis chromosome 46, XN, high-resolution chromosome microarray analysis of Affymetrix CytoScan 750K Array revealed a 210 kb fragment deletion in chromosome 2p16.3 containing NRXN1, an OMIM gene, the deleted fragment was derived from a mother with a normal phenotype. The pregnant woman delivered a healthy baby girl at 36 weeks + 5 days. DIAGNOSES Based on the clinical characteristics, imaging, and genetic test findings, the postoperative diagnosis was PMD. INTERVENTION Because of "Scar uterus" and "Pregnancy with hydatidiform mole," a 2490 g female infant was delivered by cesarean section at 36 weeks + 5 days of gestation with an Apgar score of 9/9. OUTCOMES The maternal human chorionic gonadotropin level decreased to the normal range after 10 days of delivery, and the infant was not found abnormal after 3 months of follow-up. LESSONS From our cases and 19 other cases obtained from the PMD literature review are associated with unique clinical, laboratory, and imaging features compared with a hydatidiform mole, such as stained glass sign, normal serum levels of serum human chorionic gonadotropin, elevated alpha-fetoprotein levels and female fetus.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Nuclear Yes1-associated transcriptional regulator (YAP1) promotes tumor progression. However, the function of cytoplasmic YAP1 in breast cancer cells and its impact on the survival of breast cancer patients remain unclear. Our research aimed to explore the biological function of cytoplasmic YAP1 in breast cancer cells and the possibility of cytoplasmic YAP1 as a predictive marker of breast cancer survival. METHODS We constructed cell mutant models, including NLS-YAP15SA (nuclear localized), YAP1S94A (incapable of binding to the TEA domain transcription factor family) and YAP1S127D (cytoplasmic localized), and used Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK-8) assays, 5-ethynyl-2'-deoxyuridine (EdU) incorporation assays, and Western blotting (WB) analysis to detect cell proliferation and apoptosis. The specific mechanism of cytoplasmic YAP1-mediated endosomal sorting complexes required for transport III (ESCRT-III) assembly was studied by co-immunoprecipitation, immunofluorescence staining, and WB analysis. Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) was used to simulate YAP1 retention in the cytoplasm in in vitro and in vivo experiments to study the function of cytoplasmic YAP1. YAP1 binding to NEDD4-like E3 ubiquitin protein ligase (NEDD4L) was identified using mass spectrometry and was verified in vitro. Breast tissue microarrays were used to analyze the relationship between cytoplasmic YAP1 expression and the survival of breast cancer patients. RESULTS YAP1 was mainly expressed in the cytoplasm in breast cancer cells. Cytoplasmic YAP1 promoted autophagic death of breast cancer cells. Cytoplasmic YAP1 bound to the ESCRT-III complex subunits charged multivesicular body protein 2B (CHMP2B) and vacuolar protein sorting 4 homolog B (VPS4B), promoting assembly of CHMP2B-VPS4B and activating autophagosome formation. EGCG retained YAP1 in the cytoplasm, promoting the assembly of CHMP2B-VPS4B to promote autophagic death of breast cancer cells. YAP1 bound to NEDD4L, and NEDD4L mediated ubiquitination and degradation of YAP1. Breast tissue microarrays revealed that high levels of cytoplasmic YAP1 were beneficial to the survival of breast cancer patients. CONCLUSIONS Cytoplasmic YAP1 mediated autophagic death of breast cancer cells by promoting assembly of the ESCRT-III complex; furthermore, we established a new breast cancer survival prediction model based on cytoplasmic YAP1 expression.

Abstract
Background Previous studies found an association between self-reported sleep duration and mortality. This study aimed to compare the effects of objective and self-reported sleep duration on all-cause and cardiovascular disease (CVD) mortality. Methods and Results A total of 2341 men and 2686 women (aged 63.9±11.1 years) were selected from the SHHS (Sleep Heart Health Study). Objective sleep duration was acquired using in-home polysomnography records, and self-reported sleep duration on weekdays and weekends was based on a sleep habits questionnaire. The sleep duration was categorized as ≤4 hours, 4 to 5 hours, 5 to 6 hours, 6 to 7 hours, 7 to 8 hours, and >8 hours. Multivariable Cox regression analysis was used to investigate the association of objective and self-reported sleep duration with all-cause and CVD mortality. During a mean follow-up period of 11 years, 1172 (23.3%) participants died, including 359 (7.1%) deaths from CVD. All-cause and CVD mortality rates decreased gradually with increasing objective sleep duration. In multivariable Cox regression analysis, the greatest association for all-cause and CVD mortality was with an objective sleep duration of 5 hours or shorter. In addition, we found a J-shaped association of self-reported sleep duration on both weekdays and weekends with all-cause and CVD mortality. Self-reported short (≤4 hours) and long (>8 hours) sleep duration on weekdays and weekends were associated with an increased risk of all-cause and CVD mortality compared with 7 to 8 hours sleep duration. Furthermore, a weak correlation was observed between objective and self-reported sleep duration. Conclusions This study showed that both objective and self-reported sleep duration were associated with all-cause and CVD mortality, but with different characteristics. Abstract
Self-assembled quantum dots (QDs) based on III-V semiconductors have excellent properties for applications in quantum optics. However, the presence of a 2D wetting layer (WL) which forms during the Stranski-Krastanov growth of QDs can limit their performance. Here, we investigate WL formation during QD growth by the droplet epitaxy technique. We use a combination of photoluminescence excitation spectroscopy, lifetime measurements, and transmission electron microscopy to identify the presence of an InGaAs WL in these droplet epitaxy QDs, even in the absence of distinguishable WL luminescence. We observe that increasing the amount of Ga deposited on a GaAs (100) surface prior to the growth of InGaAs QDs leads to a significant reduction in the emission wavelength of the WL to the point where it can no longer be distinguished from the GaAs acceptor peak emission in photoluminescence measurements. However increasing the amount of Ga deposited does not suppress the formation of a WL under the growth conditions used here.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the causal effects of sleep traits (i.e., chronotype, insomnia, and sleep duration) on bioavailable testosterone (BT), sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG), and total testosterone (TT) levels in women and men. METHODS We performed Mendelian randomization (MR) using random-effect inverse-variance weighted (IVW) and 7 other MR analyses. Exposure data for sleep traits were obtained from the largest-to-date genome-wide association study (GWAS) from 339,926 to 1,331,010 individuals. Summary data for testosterone levels were obtained from GWAS based on the UK Biobank. RESULTS For women, our study supported that chronotype was associated with decreased BT (IVW: β = - 0.042, 95% CI - 0.060, - 0.023, p = 1.17E-05) and TT (IVW: - 0.053, 95% CI - 0.075, - 0.031, p = 2.30E-06). Besides, insomnia can significantly increase BT (IVW: β = 0.025, 95% CI 0.009, 0.041, p = 0.002). These findings were significant in most sensitivity analyses. For men, statistical significance was found between chronotype and BT (β = - 0.027, 95% CI - 0.048, - 0.005, p = 0.016), and insomnia and TT (β = - 0.028, 95% CI - 0.049, 0.007, p = 0.009) in IVW. However, the effect estimates were not broadly consistent with other sensitivity analyses. Our study did not find support for causal effects of sleep duration on testosterone levels in both women and men. CONCLUSION Our study reveals the sex differences in the effects of sleep traits on testosterone levels. A healthy sleep habit is vital for the maintenance of testosterone homeostasis in women. Further studies are warranted to investigate the associations between sleep traits and testosterone levels in men.

Abstract
The mechanism by which endometriosis, a common gynecological disease characterized by chronic pelvic pain and infertility, causes infertility remains elusive. Luteinized unruptured follicle syndrome, the most common type of ovulatory dysfunction, is a cause of endometriosis-associated infertility involving reduced numbers of retrieved and mature oocytes. Ovulation is controlled by luteinizing hormone and paracrine signals produced within the follicle microenvironment. Generally, interleukin (IL)-1β is elevated in endometriosis follicular fluid, whereby it amplifies ovulation signals by activating extracellular-regulated kinase 1/2 and CCAAT/enhancer binding protein β pathways. However, this amplification of ovulation by IL-1β does not occur in patients with endometriosis. To illuminate the mechanism of ovulatory dysfunction in endometriosis, we analyzed the effect of oxidative stress and IL-1β expression on endometriosis follicles. We found that oxidative stress decreased EZH2 expression and reduced H3K27Me3 levels in endometriosis ovarian granulosa cells (GCs). Selective Ezh2 depletion in mice ovarian GCs reduced fertility by disturbing cumulus-oocyte complex expansion and reducing epidermal growth factor-like factor expression. Gene expression and H3K27Me3 ChIP-sequencing (ChIP-Seq) of GCs revealed IL-1 receptor 2 (IL-1R2), a high-affinity IL-1β-receptor that suppresses IL-1β-mediated inflammatory cascades during ovulation, as a crucial target gene of the EZH2-H3K27Me3 axis. Moreover, IL-1β addition did not restore ovulation upon Ezh2 knockdown, indicating a vital function of IL-1R2 in endometriosis. Thus, our findings show that reducing EZH2 and H3K27Me3 in GCs suppressed ovulatory signals by increasing IL-1R2 expression, which may ultimately contribute to endometriosis-associated infertility.

Abstract
The in vitro study demonstrates wirelessly controlled modulation of neural activity using magnetoelectric nanoparticles (MENPs), synchronized to magnetic field application with a sub-25-msec temporal response. Herein, MENPs are sub-30-nm CoFe2O4@BaTiO3 core-shell nanostructures. MENPs were added to E18 rat hippocampal cell cultures (0.5 μg of MENPs per 100,000 neurons) tagged with fluorescent Ca2+ sensitive indicator cal520. MENPs were shown to wirelessly induce calcium transients which were synchronized with application of 1200-Oe bipolar 25-msec magnetic pulses at a rate of 20 pulses/sec. The observed calcium transients were similar, in shape and magnitude, to those generated through the control electric field stimulation with a 50-μA current, and they were inhibited by the sodium channel blocker tetrodotoxin. The observed MENP-based magnetic excitation of neural activity is in agreement with the non-linear M - H hysteresis loop of the MENPs, wherein the MENPs' coercivity value sets the threshold for the externally applied magnetic field.

Abstract
Since antimony (Sb) is a toxic metalloid cost-effective method for the simultaneous removal of the two major Sb species from mining wastewater has attracted much attention. In this study, phytosynthesized iron nanoparticles (nFe) prepared using a eucalyptus leaf extract were successfully used to simultaneously remove Sb(III) and Sb(V) via an adsorption and oxidation mechanism with removal efficiencies of 100 and 97.7% for Sb(III) and Sb(V), respectively. Advanced analysis using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), ion chromatography-atomic fluorescence spectroscopy (IC-AFS), and electrochemical analysis confirmed that Sb(III) was oxidized to Sb(V) by Fe(III) on the nFe surface while Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS) indicated that both Sb(III) and Sb(V) were adsorbed onto nFe. Adsorption of both Sb(III) and Sb(V) best fit the Langmuir adsorption model with R2 of 0.999 and 0.989, respectively and both followed pseudo-second-order kinetics with R2 of 0.999 and 0.981, respectively. Furthermore, the adsorption rate of Sb(III) was faster than that of Sb(V) due to inner-sphere complex formation, and the Fe-O bonds in the asymmetric tetrahedron structure of Sb(III) were easier to break due to a lower energy barrier (0.863 eV). Consequently, a simultaneous removal mechanism of Sb(III) and Sb(V) was proposed. Finally, nFe was used practically to remove Sb in mining wastewater with a removal efficiency of 93.5%, demonstrating that nFe have significant potential to remove Sb in contaminated mining wastewaters.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To assess the real-world effectiveness of vitamin D supplementation in patients with knee osteoarthritis (KOA) by replicating a randomized controlled trial (RCT) design in an observational study. METHOD This study emulated a target trial using data from the Osteoarthritis Initiative (OAI). Eligible participants were ≥45 years, had symptomatic KOA and did not take vitamin D supplements in the past 30 days. A participant can enter the trial more than once. Participants were included in vitamin D group if they took ≥1,000 IU/day for ≥4 days/week in the past 30 days at the first follow-up visit after baseline. The control group did not use vitamin D in the past 30 days. Optimal propensity score matching at 1:1 ratio was performed. The primary outcome was change in knee pain 2 years after baseline measured by the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC). Secondary outcomes included WOMAC physical function and quantitative joint space width (JSW). Standardized mean difference (SMD) was used to compare the findings with previous RCTs. RESULTS A total of 236 person-trials in the vitamin D group were pair-matched with a control. Compared to the control group, vitamin D supplementation did not reach significant changes in WOMAC pain (SMD = -0.04, 95%CI [-0.21, 0.13]), physical function and radiographic JSW over 2 years. The SMDs were consistent with the effect sizes reported in previous RCTs. CONCLUSION Target trial emulation in the OAI cohort demonstrated findings close to published RCTs. This supports the future use of target trial emulation in evaluating other systemic therapies for KOA.

Abstract
Severe intrauterine adhesions (IUAs), characterized by inadequate endometrial repair and fibrosis, can lead to infertility. Stem cell-based therapies, which deliver mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) to the wound site, hold a considerable promise for endometrium regeneration. However, some notable hurdles, such as stemness loss, immunogenicity, low retention and survival rate, limit their clinical application. Evidence shows a strategy of mobilizing endogenous MSCs recruitment can overcome the traditional limitations of exogenous stem cell-based therapies. Here, an acellular biomaterial named stromal derived factor-1 alpha (SDF-1α)/E7-modified collagen scaffold (CES) is explored. CES based on harnessing the innate regenerative potential of the body enables near-complete endometrium regeneration and fertility restoration both in a rat endometrium acute damage model and a rat IUA model. Mechanistically, the CES implantation promotes endogenous MSCs recruitment via a macrophage-coordinated strategy; then the homing MSCs exert the function of immunomodulation and altered local microenvironments toward regeneration. To conclude, CES, which can harness endogenous MSCs and overcome the traditional limitations of cell-based therapies, can serve as a clinically feasible and cell-free strategy with high therapeutic efficiency for IUA treatment.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Systemic inflammation caused by dysfunctional macrophages is a crucial pathogenetic event in preeclampsia (PE). Trophoblast-derived extracellular vesicles (T-EVs) are potent immune cell signaling modulators in pregnancy. Herein, we aimed to investigate T-EVs' effect and mechanism on macrophage polarization and its role in PE pathogenesis, which remain unclear. METHODS Flow cytometry and immunochemistry were used to determine placental macrophage phenotypes. T-EVs were immuno-isolated via placental alkaline phosphatase antibody and identified by transmission electron microscopy and nanoparticle tracking analysis. Quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction and flow cytometry were used to examine the effects of T-EVs on macrophage polarization, and correlation analysis of T-EVs lipidomics and macrophages transcriptome were performed to explore how T-EVs modulate macrophages. Animal experiments were established to investigate the relationship among PE, T-EVs, and macrophages. RESULTS Macrophages shift from the M2 to M1 phenotype in the preeclamptic placenta. Also, T-EVs from women with PE (PE-EVs) significantly upregulated M1 gene markers and significantly downregulated CD163 expression in macrophages compared with T-EVs in women with normal pregnancies (NP-EVs). Mechanistically, correlation analysis with T-EVs lipidome and the transcriptome of macrophages treated with PE-EVs or NP-EVs indicated that 37 lipids altered in PE-EVs considerably affected classical inflammatory biological pathways in macrophages. Finally, animal experiments revealed that PE-EVs triggered PE-like symptoms in pregnant mice, which were alleviated after macrophage depletion. CONCLUSIONS T-EVs from women with PE could promote preeclampsia by inducing macrophage imbalance polarization, signifying a potential novel interventional target for the prevention and management of PE.

Abstract
The integration of metal-organic frameworks with other functional materials has recently emerged as a promising approach for creating innovative materials for environmental remediation. Here, a nano-sized iron/nickel (Fe/Ni) functionalized zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8-Fe/Ni) was fabricated for oxytetracycline (OTC) removal from wastewater. Cyclic voltammetry and amperometric I-t measurements indicated that OTC was degraded by ZIF-8-Fe/Ni. X-ray diffraction spectroscopy (XRD), transmission electron microscopy mapping (TEM-mapping) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) indicated that Fe/Ni was evenly dispersed throughout ZIF-8 and partially oxidized after reaction with OTC. OTC adsorption isotherms and kinetics best fitted the Langmuir isotherm (R2 > 0.982) and pseudo-second-order model (R2 > 0.997), respectively. Reduction kinetics data followed the pseudo-first-order model (R2 > 0.905), where the apparent activation energy (Ea) was 22.9 kJ mol-1, demonstrating that OTC degradation was mainly via a chemical process. The practical removal efficiency of OTC from real wastewater by ZIF-8-Fe/Ni was 92.6%, where even after application of ZIF-8-Fe/Ni for 5 consecutive removal cycles, a high OTC removal of 74.9% was maintained. Thus ZIF-8-Fe/Ni exhibited both high removal efficiency and good recyclability.

Abstract
This study aimed to compare ovarian reserve function and outcomes after in vitro fertilization and embryo transfer (IVF-ET) for young women with pelvic endometriosis with or without ovarian endometrioma. We explored the main factors influencing pregnancy outcomes in young patients with endometrioma. A total of 619 patients ≤38 years of age who underwent IVF-ET in our reproductive center between January 2011 and December 2015 were recruited. Among these patients, 398 had pelvic endometriosis with ovarian endometrioma and 221 had pelvic endometriosis without ovarian endometrioma. Patients underwent ovulation induction during IVF-ET. The general conditions and clinical outcomes of IVF-ET treatment were compared. Key factors affecting the success of IVF-ET treatment for endometriomas were analyzed. During IVF-ET treatment, the numbers of retrieved oocytes and 2-pronuclei (2PN) embryos in all age groups (P < .01), and the number of 2PN high-quality embryos in patients under 30 years of age was lower in the pelvic endometriosis with ovarian endometrioma group than in the pelvic endometriosis alone group (P < .05). Logistic regression analysis showed the number of antral follicles, basal follicle-stimulating hormone (bFSH) levels, number of oocytes, number of 2PN embryos, and number of 2PN high-quality embryos were significantly related to the successful outcome of IVF-ET. Among these, the number of 2PN high-quality embryos was the only independent predictive factor. Ovarian endometrioma significantly impairs ovarian reserve function and ultimately affects the therapeutic efficacy of IVF-ET. Obtaining more 2PN high-quality embryos was important for IVF-ET treatment of young patients with ovarian endometriomas.

Abstract
Background Myometrial invasion (MI), lymphovascular space invasion (LVSI), and lymph node metastasis (LNM) have been found to have independent prognostic factors in endometrial cancer. Tumor size has practical advantages in endometrial cancer. The cutoff values for tumor size conformed with current literature. More and more studies inferred that tumor size >20 mm showed a strong correlation. However, the relationship between tumor size >20 mm and MI, LVSI, LNM, recurrence, and overall survival (OS) remains controversial, and no meta-analysis has been conducted. Therefore, a systematic review and meta-analysis should be performed to discuss this issue later on. Methods Relevant articles were collected from PubMed, EMBASE, and Cochrane Library databases from January 1990 to June 2021. The predictive value of tumor size >20 mm in endometrial cancer was studied, and data were pooled for meta-analysis using Review Manager 5.1. Additionally, the odds ratio (OR) was analyzed, and cumulative analyses of hazard ratio (HR) and their corresponding 95% CI were conducted. Results A total of 40 articles with 53,276 endometrial cancer patients were included in the meta-analysis. It contained 7 articles for MI, 6 for LVSI, 21 for LNM, 7 for recurrence, and 3 for OS. Primary tumor size >20 mm was significantly associated with depth of MI (OR = 5.59, 95% CI [5.02, 6.23], p < 0.001), positive LVSI (OR = 3.35, 95% CI [2.34, 4.78], p < 0.001), positive LNM (OR = 4.11, 95% CI [3.63, 4.66], p < 0.001), and recurrence (OR = 3.52, 95% CI [2.39, 5.19], p < 0.001). Tumor size >20 mm was also related to OS via meta-synthesis of HR in univariate survival (HR 2.13, 95% CI [1.28, 3.53], p = 0.003). There was no significant publication bias in this study by funnel plot analysis. Conclusion Primary tumor size >20 mm was an independent predictive factor for the depth of MI, positive LVSI, positive LNM, recurrence, and poor OS. Therefore, it is more important to take into account the value of tumor size in the clinicopathological staging of endometrial carcinoma. Tumor size >20 mm should be integrated into the intraoperative algorithm for performing a full surgical staging. Well-designed and multicenter studies, with a larger sample size, are still required to verify the findings.

Abstract
Background Triosephosphate isomerase 1 (TPI1), as a key glycolytic enzyme, is upregulated in multiple cancers. However, expression profile and regulatory mechanism of TPI1 in breast cancer (BRCA) remain mysterious. Methods Western blotting and immunohistochemistry (IHC) assays were used to investigate the expression of TPI1 in BRCA specimens and cell lines. TPI1 correlation with the clinicopathological characteristics and prognosis of 362 BRCA patients was analyzed using a tissue microarray. Overexpression and knockdown function experiments in cells and mice models were performed to elucidate the function and mechanisms of TPI1-induced BRCA progression. Related molecular mechanisms were clarified using co-IP, IF, mass spectrometric analysis, and ubiquitination assay. Results We have found TPI1 is highly expressed in BRCA tissue and cell lines, acting as an independent indicator for prognosis in BRCA patients. TPI1 promotes BRCA cell glycolysis, proliferation and metastasis in vitro and in vivo. Mechanistically, TPI1 activates phosphoinositide 3-kinase (PI3K)/AKT/mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) pathway to regulate epithelial–mesenchymal transformation (EMT) and aerobic glycolysis, which is positively mediated by cell division cycle associated 5 (CDCA5). Moreover, TPI1 interacts with sequestosome-1 (SQSTM1)/P62, and P62 decreases the protein expression of TPI1 by promoting its ubiquitination in MDA-MB-231 cells. Conclusions TPI1 promotes BRCA progression by stabilizing CDCA5, which then activates the PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway. P62 promotes ubiquitin-dependent proteasome degradation of TPI1. Collectively, TPI1 promotes tumor development and progression, which may serve as a therapeutic target for BRCA. Abstract
Thioacetamide (TAA) is widely used in the production of drugs, pesticides and dyeing auxiliaries. Moreover, it is a chemical that can cause liver damage and cancer. TAA has recently been identified to cause bone damage in animal models. However, the type of bone damage that TAA causes and its potential pathogenic mechanisms remain unclear. The toxic effects of TAA on the femurs of New Zealand white rabbits and the underlying toxicity mechanism were investigated in this study. Serum samples, the heart, liver, kidney and femurs were collected from rabbits after intraperitoneal injection of TAA for 5 months (100 and 200 mg/kg). The New Zealand white rabbits treated with TAA showed significant weight loss and femoral shortening. The activities of total bilirubin, total bile acid and gamma-glutamyl transpeptidase in the serum were increased following treatment with TAA. In addition, the cortical bone became thinner, and the trabecular thickness decreased significantly in TAA-treated rabbits, which was accompanied by significantly decreased mineral density of the cortical and trabecular bone. Moreover, there was a significant decrease in modulus of elasticity and maximum load on bone stress in TAA-treated rabbits. The western blotting results showed that the expression of phosphorylated (p)-p38 and p-ERK in femur tissues of rabbits were increased after TAA administration. Collectively, these results suggested that TAA may lead to femoral damage in rabbits by activating the p38/ERK signaling pathway.

Abstract
Objectives Rapid eye movement (REM) sleep is closely related to all-cause mortality. The aim of this study is to explore the role of REM sleep on the incident heart failure (HF). Methods We selected 4490 participants (2480 women and 2010 men; mean age, 63.2 ± 11.0 years) from the Sleep Heart Health Study. HF was identified as the first occurrence during a mean follow-up period of 10.9 years. REM sleep including percentage of REM sleep and total REM sleep time were monitored using in-home polysomnography at baseline. Multivariable Cox regression analysis was utilized to explore the relationship between REM sleep and HF. Results In total, 436 (9.7%) cases of HF were observed during the entire follow-up period. After adjusting for potential covariates, an increased percentage of REM sleep (per 5%) was independently associated with a reduced incidence of HF [hazard ratio (HR) 0.88, 95% confidence interval (CI) 0.82–0.94, P < 0.001]. A similar result was also found between total REM sleep time (increased per 5 min) and incident HF (HR 0.97, 95% CI 0.95–0.99, P < 0.001). Moreover, the fourth quartile of both percentage of REM sleep (HR 0.65, 95% CI 0.48–0.88, P = 0.005) and total REM sleep time (HR 0.64, 95% CI 0.45–0.90, P = 0.010) had lower risk of incident HF when compared with the first quartile. Conclusion An increased percentage of REM sleep and total REM sleep time were associated with a reduced risk of HF. REM sleep may be a predictor of the incident HF. Abstract
Atomic-scale simulations, and in particular molecular dynamics (MD), are key assets to model the behavior of the structure of materials under the action of external stimuli, say temperature, strain or stress, irradiation, etc. Despite the widespread use of MD in condensed matter science, some basic material characteristics remain difficult to determine. This is, for instance, the case for the long-range strain tensor, and its root-mean-squared fluctuations, in disordered materials. In this work, computational diffraction is introduced as a fast and reliable structural characterization tool of atomic-scale simulation cells in the case of irradiated single crystals. In contrast to direct-space methods, computational diffraction operates in the reciprocal space and is therefore highly sensitive to long-range spatial correlations. With the example of irradiated UO2 single crystals, it is demonstrated that the normal strains, shear strains and rotations, as well as their root-mean-squared fluctuations (microstrain) and the atomic disorder, are straightforwardly and unambiguously determined. The methodology presented here has been developed with efficiency in mind, in order to be able to provide simple and reliable characterizations either operating in real time, in parallel with other analysis tools, or operating on very large data sets.

Abstract
Objective: To analyze the citation of articles in Chinese Journal of Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery, and to explore the strategy for running scientific journals. Methods: Using the Citation Database of Chinese Biomedical Journals, the citations of articles in this journal from 2009 to 2019 were statistically analyzed, and the characteristics of highly cited articles were analyzed. Results: From 2009 to 2019, Chinese Journal of Otorhinolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery published 2 814 papers. Cited papers accounted for 75.69% of all papers, and each paper was cited 7.24 times. The citation rate of published papers was consistent with the variation trend of citation frequency. Non treatises such as guide consensus and original articles for special issues were cited better. There was no obvious correlation between paper funding and citation. Conclusion: Improving the content quality and optimizing the column setting are important measures to enhance the influence of scientific journals.

Abstract
Even a small concentration of estrogen released into the environment can cause great damage to the surrounding ecosystem, with potential teratogenic and carcinogenic hazards to many organisms. In this study, carbonized green synthesized Fe/Ni NPs, with a maximum adsorption capacity of 44.32 mg g-1 coupled with over 98.3% removal efficiency, were used to remove 17β-estradiol (E2) from water. Adsorption best conformed to pseudo-second-order kinetics (R2 = 0.998-0.999) and the Freundlich model (R2 = 0.990-0.997). SEM images reveal that the carbonized material had increased specific surface area and pores. Zeta Potential, FTIR and XPS spectra confirmed that carbonized material was negatively charged and contained functional groups with a high affinity for E2. Liquid chromatography during removal of E2 suggested no new substances were generated. Therefore, the synergistic effect of carbonized-Fe/Ni NPs surface functional groups is a key issue, including dehydration bonds, hydrogen bonds, and the accumulation of Π and Π. In practice the application of carbonized-Fe/Ni NPs demonstrated their ability to remove 51.8% and 48.7% of E2 from domestic sewage and livestock wastewater, respectively. This work provides a strong basis for the practical removal of E2 using carbonized-Fe/Ni NPs material.

Abstract
AIMS The objective of this study is to explore the relationship between serum 25-hydroxyvitamin-D(25-(OH)2D3) level and sweat function in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). METHODS A cross-sectional study of 1021 patients with T2DM who underwent 25-(OH)2D3 level detections and sweat function tests was carried out. These individuals were divided into deficient groups (n = 154 cases), insufficient groups (n = 593 cases) and sufficient groups (n = 274 cases). Spearman correlation analysis and multivariate stepwise linear regression analysis were implemented to determine the association of 25-(OH)2D3 level and sweat function. RESULTS The total presence of sweating dysfunction was 38.59%. Patients with a lower level of serum 25-(OH)2D3 had more severe sweat secretion impairment (P < 0.05). As the decrease of serum 25-(OH)2D3 level, the presence of sweating dysfunction increased (P < 0.05). 25-(OH)2D3 level was positively correlated with sweat function parameters, age and duration of T2DM were negatively correlated with sweat function parameter (P < 0.05). Multivariate stepwise linear regression analysis explored a significant association between serum 25-(OH)2D3 level with sweat function (P < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS Serum 25-(OH)2D3 level was positively correlated with sweat function in patients with T2DM.

Abstract
Angiotensin II type 1 receptor-associated protein (ATRAP) is widely expressed in different tissues and organs, although its mechanistic role in breast cancer remains unclear. Here, we show that ATRAP is highly expressed in breast cancer tissues. Its aberrant upregulation promotes breast cancer aggressiveness and is positively correlated with poor prognosis. Functional assays revealed that ATRAP participates in promoting cell growth, metastasis, and aerobic glycolysis, while microarray analysis showed that ATRAP can activate the AKT/mTOR signaling pathway in cancer progression. In addition, ATRAP was revealed to direct Ubiquitin-specific protease 14 (USP14)-mediated deubiquitination and stabilization of Pre-B cell leukemia homeobox 3 (PBX3). Importantly, ATRAP is a direct target of Upstream stimulatory factor 1 (USF1), and that ATRAP overexpression reverses the inhibitory effects of USF1 knockdown. Our study demonstrates the broad contribution of the USF1/ATRAP/PBX3 axis to breast cancer progression and provides a strong potential therapeutic target.

Abstract
Since the incidences of arsenicosis have significantly increased worldwide in the last decade, remediation of arsenic (As) pollution is now imperative. In this study, calcined green synthesized Fe/Ni nanoparticles (C-Fe/Ni NPs) were evaluated for their efficacy for As (V) removal from aqueous solution. Under optimal experimental conditions As (V) removal efficiency reached 87.3%. Analysis of changes in the surface properties of C-Fe/Ni NPs before and after interaction with As (Ⅴ) using a range of advanced characterization techniques including IC-AFS, SEM-EDS, XPS and XRD revealed that the As removal mechanism involved only adsorption. Adsorption kinetics followed a pseudo-second order rate model (R2 > 0.986) and adsorption best fit the Langmuir isotherm model (R2 > 0.958). Thermodynamic studies indicated that adsorption was a spontaneous endothermic process. On the basis of these results, a removal mechanism of As (Ⅴ) by C-Fe/Ni NPs was proposed. Finally, the efficacy of the material for practical remediation of As from aqueous solution was assessed, including the influence of coexisting anions. While Cl-, NO3- and SO42- had little influence on As (V) removal, both H2PO4- and HCO3- significantly negatively affected removal.

Abstract
Recurrent pregnancy loss (RPL) is a severe complication of pregnancy that is caused by genetic abnormalities, immune dysfunction, aberrant cell biology, and tissue structure destruction. Among which, placental dysfunction is crucial in the pathogenetic progression of RPL. Although some regulatory factors associated with RPL have been reported, the placental changes correlated with RPL still need to be elucidated. Here, we found that a portion of RPL patients presented with low serum and placental S100P expression. Using a human trophoblast stem cell model, we demonstrated that S100P was exclusively expressed in syncytiotrophoblast (ST)-like syncytia (ST(2D)-TSCT) and that loss of S100P expression in ST(2D)-TSCT cells impaired β-hCG secretion, leading to syncytialization failure during early placental development. Moreover, we found that S100P is involved in regulating trophoblast syncytialization by downregulating the protein level of Yes-associated protein 1 (YAP1), which plays a pivotal role in maintaining trophoblast stemness. Together, our findings suggest that S100P plays an essential role in regulating trophoblast syncytialization during early placental development in humans via YAP1. Additionally, lower serum S100P levels may predict poor pregnancy outcomes and represent a potentially useful marker for evaluating placental biological function during early pregnancy.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES The purpose of our study was to investigate the effect of objective sleep characteristics on the incidence of depression. METHODS The participants of our study (1,595 men and 1,780 women with 63.1 ± 10.7 years) were selected from the Sleep Heart Health Study (SHHS) datasets. Depression was defined as the first occurrence between SHHS visit 1 and visit 2. Objective sleep characteristics, including sleep efficiency (SE), wake after sleep onset (WASO), sleep fragmentation index (SFI) and arousal index (ArI), were monitored by polysomnography. Multivariable logistic regression was used to explore the relationship between sleep characteristics and depression. RESULTS A total of 248 patients with depression (7.3%) were observed between SHHS visits 1 and 2. After adjusting for covariates, SE (odds ratio [OR], 0.891; 95% confidence interval [CI] 0.811-0.978; P = 0.016) and WASO (OR, 1.021; 95% CI 1.002-1.039; P = 0.026) were associated with the incidence of depression. Moreover, the relationship between SE and depression was more pronounced in men (OR, 0.820; 95% CI 0.711-0.946; P = 0.007) than in women (OR, 0.950; 95% CI 0.838-1.078; P = 0.429) in subgroup analysis (P interaction < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS SE and WASO may be markers for the incidence of depression. The association between SE and depression was intensified in men.

Abstract
PURPOSE Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is one of the most common malignant brain tumors in adults and has high mortality and relapse rates. Over the past few years, great advances have been made in the diagnosis and treatment of GBM, but unfortunately, the five-year overall survival rate of GBM patients is approximately 5.1%. Inhibitor of nuclear factor kappa-B kinase subunit epsilon (IKBKE) is a major oncogenic protein in tumors and can promote evil development of GBM. Snail1, a key inducer of the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) transcription factor, is subjected to ubiquitination and degradation, but the mechanism by which Snail1 is stabilized in tumors remains unclear. Our study aimed to investigate the mechanism of IKBKE regulating Snail1 in GBM. METHODS First, we analyzed the correlation between the expression of IKBKE and the tumor grade and prognosis through public databases and laboratory specimen libraries. Second, immunohistochemistry (IHC) and western blot were used to detect the correlation between IKBKE and Snail expression in glioma samples and cell lines. Western blot and immunofluorescence (IF) experiments were used to detect the quality and distribution of IKBKE and Snail1 proteins. Third, In situ animal model of intracranial glioma to detect the regulatory effect of IKBKE on intracranial tumors. RESULTS In this study, Our study reveals a new connection between IKBKE and Snail1, where IKBKE can directly bind to Snail1, translocate Snail1 into the nucleus from the cytoplasm. Downregulation of IKBKE results in Snail1 destabilization and impairs the tumor cell migration and invasion capabilities. CONCLUSION Our studies suggest that the IKBKE-Snail1 axis may serve as a potential therapeutic target for GBM treatment.
