The Failure of Molecular Imprinting in Conducting Polymers: A Case Study of Imprinting Picric Acid on Polycarbazole. SENSORS (BASEL, SWITZERLAND) 2024; 24:424. Abstract
The aims of this study were to investigate the potential of utilising molecularly imprinted polycarbazole layers to detect highly toxic picric acid (PA) and to provide information about their performance. Quantum chemical calculations showed that strong interactions occur between PA and carbazole (bond energy of approximately 31 kJ/mol), consistent with the theoretical requirements for effective molecular imprinting. The performance of the sensors, however, was found to be highly limited, with the observed imprinting factor values for polycarbazole (PCz) layers being 1.77 and 0.95 for layers deposited on Pt and glassy carbon (GC) electrodes, respectively. Moreover, the molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) layers showed worse performance than unmodified Pt or GC electrodes, for which the lowest limit of detection (LOD) values were determined (LOD values of 0.09 mM and 0.26 mM, respectively, for bare Pt and MIP PCz/Pt, as well as values of 0.11 mM and 0.57 mM for bare GC and MIP PCz/GC). The MIP layers also showed limited selectivity and susceptibility to interfering agents. An initial hypothesis on the reasons for such performance was postulated based on the common properties of conjugated polymers.

Abstract
This study reports the synthesis of cofacial organic cage molecules containing aggregation-induced emissive (AIE) luminogens (AIEgens) through four-fold Cu(I)-catalyzed azide-alkyne cycloaddition (CuAAC) "click" reactions. The shorter AIEgen, tetraphenylethylene (TPE), afforded two orientational isomers (TPE-CC-1A and TPE-CC-1B). The longer AIEgen, tetrabiphenylethylene (TBPE), afforded a single isomer (TBPE-CC-2). The click reaction employed is irreversible, yet it yielded remarkable four-fold click products above 40 %. The phenyl rings around the ethylene core generate propeller-shaped chirality owing to their orientation, which influences the chirality of the resulting cages. The shorter cages are a mixture of PP/MM isomers, while the longer ones are a mixture of PM/MP isomers, as evidenced by their x-ray structures. The newly synthesized cage molecules are emissive even in dilute solutions (THF) and exhibit enhanced AIE upon the addition of water. The aggregated cage molecules in aqueous solution exhibit turn-off emission sensing of nitroaromatic explosives, with selectivity to picric acid in the 25-38 nanomolar detection range.

Shelf Life Prediction of Picric Acid via Model-Based Kinetic Analysis of Its Thermal Decomposition. MATERIALS (BASEL, SWITZERLAND) 2022; 15:8899. Abstract
A priori knowledge of the shelf life of energetic materials (EMs) is relevant due to its direct association with safety and functionality. This paper proposes a quick and reliable approach to predicting the shelf life of EMs whose thermal decomposition is an autocatalytic process once their failure threshold has been defined as a function of the limiting extent of conversion. This approach is based on the assumption of a kinetic law consistent with the autocatalytic behavior and on the subsequent extraction, via a suitable procedure of parameter identification, of the kinetics of thermal decomposition from differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) data gathered under dynamic conditions at three different heating rates. Its reliability is proven for picric acid (PA) through the comparison of kinetic predictions with evaluations of conversion obtained by using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) analysis for samples subjected to isothermal and non-isothermal accelerated aging tests, as well as for a sample of naturally aged material, i.e., PA, stored at room temperature for more than 10 years.

The Combined Effect of Ambient Conditions and Diluting Salt on the Degradation of Picric Acid: An In Situ DRIFT Study. MATERIALS (BASEL, SWITZERLAND) 2022; 15:6029. Abstract
An unexpected promoting effect of KBr, used as a diluting salt, on the degradation of picric acid (PA) was observed during in situ diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier-transform (DRIFT) spectroscopy experiments performed here under accelerated ageing conditions-at 80 °C and under an inert or oxidative atmosphere. While the formation of potassium picrate was excluded, this promoting effect-which is undesired as it masks the possible effects of test conditions on the ageing process of the material-was assumed to favor a first step of the decomposition mechanism of PA, which involves the inter- or intramolecular transfer of hydrogen to the nitro group, and possibly proceeds up to the formation of an amino group. An alternative diluting salt, ZnSe, which is much less commonly used in infrared spectroscopy than KBr, was then proposed in order to avoid misleading interpretation of the results. ZnSe was found to act as a truly inert diluting salt, preventing the promoting effect of KBr. The much more chemically inert nature (towards PA) of ZnSe compared to KBr was also confirmed, at much higher temperatures than DRIFT experiments, by dynamic differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) runs carried out on pure PA (i.e., PA without salt) and PA/salt (ZnSe or KBr) solid mixtures.

Abstract
A zeroth-order, non-diffracting Bessel beam, generated by picosecond laser pulses (1064 nm, 10 Hz, 30 ps) through an axicon, was utilized to perform pulse energy-dependent (12 mJ, 16 mJ, 20 mJ, 24 mJ) laser ablation of silver (Ag) substrates in air. The fabrication resulted in finger-like Ag nanostructures (NSs) in the sub-200 nm domain and obtained structures were characterized using the FESEM and AFM techniques. Subsequently, we employed those Ag NSs in surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) studies achieving promising sensing results towards trace-level detection of six different hazardous materials (explosive molecules of picric acid (PA) and ammonium nitrate (AN), a pesticide thiram (TH) and the dye molecules of Methylene Blue (MB), Malachite Green (MG), and Nile Blue (NB)) along with a biomolecule (hen egg white lysozyme (HEWL)). The remarkably superior plasmonic behaviour exhibited by the AgNS corresponding to 16 mJ pulse ablation energy was further explored. To accomplish a real-time application-oriented understanding, time-dependent studies were performed utilizing the AgNS prepared with 16 mJ and TH molecule by collecting the SERS data periodically for up to 120 days. The coated AgNSs were prepared with optimized gold (Au) deposition, accomplishing a much lower trace detection in the case of thiram (~50 pM compared to ~50 nM achieved prior to the coating) as well as superior EF up to ~108 (~106 before Au coating). Additionally, these substrates have demonstrated superior stability compared to those obtained before Au coating.

Sensitive detection of picric acid in an aqueous solution using fluorescent nonconjugated polymer dots as fluorescent probes. NANOTECHNOLOGY 2021; 32:355503. Abstract
Nonconjugated polymer dots (NPDs) were successfully used as fluorescent probes to selectively and sensitively detect picric acid (PA). The NPDs were prepared from polyethylenimine and 1,4-phthalaldehyde under mild conditions and had excitation and emission maxima of 351 and 474 nm, respectively. Fluorescence of the NPDs was efficiently quenched by PA through the inner filter effect because of the overlapping PA absorption band and NPD excitation spectrum. The NPDs allowed PA to be determined with a high degree of sensitivity. The linear range was 0-140μM and the detection limit was 0.5μM. The work involved developing a novel method for synthesizing NPDs and a promising platform for determining PA in environmental media.

Abstract
Picric acid (PA) at low concentration is a serious water pollutant. Alongside, aliphatic amines (AAs) add to the queue to pollute surface water. Plenty of reports are available to sense PA with an ultralow limit of detection (LOD). However, only a handful of works are testified to detect AAs. A new fluorescent donor-acceptor compound has been synthesized with inherent intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) character that enables selective and sensitive colorimetric quantitative detection of PA and AAs with low LODs in non-aqueous as well as aqueous solutions. The synthesized compound is based on a hemicyanine skeleton containing two pyridenylmethylamino groups at the donor and a benzothiazole moiety at the acceptor ends. The detailed mechanisms and reaction dynamics are explained spectroscopically along with computational support. The fluorescence property of the detecting compound changes due to protonation of its pyridinyl centers by PA leading to quenching of fluorescence and subsequently de-protonation by AAs to revive the signal. We have further designed logic circuits from the acquired optical responses by sequential interactions.

Abstract
Widespread use of picric acid (PA) in chemical industries and deadly explosives poses dreadful impact on all living creatures as well as the natural environment and has raised global concerns that necessitate the development of fast and efficient sensing platforms. To address this issue, herein, we report a perylenediimide-peptide conjugate, PDI-1, for detection of PA in methanol. The probe displays typical aggregation caused quenching (ACQ) behaviour and exhibits a fluorescence "turn-off" sensory response towards PA which is unaffected by the presence of other interfering nitroaromatic compounds. The sensing mechanism involves PA induced aggregation of the probe into higher order tape like structures which leads to quenching of emission. The probe possesses a low detection limit of 5.6 nM or 1.28 ppb and a significantly high Stern-Volmer constant of 6.87×104 M-1 . It also exhibits conducting properties in the presence of PA vapours and thus represents a prospective candidate for vapour phase detection of PA. This is, to the best of our knowledge, the first example of a perylenediimide based probe that demonstrates extremely specific, selective and sensitive detection of PA and thus grasps the potential for application in practical scenarios.

Aggregation-Induced Enhanced Emission (AIEE)-Active Conjugated Mesoporous Oligomers (CMOs) with Improved Quantum Yield and Low-Cost Detection of a Trace Amount of Nitroaromatic Explosives. ACS APPLIED MATERIALS & INTERFACES 2020; 12:31875-31886. Abstract
The article reports a straightforward strategy for the design and synthesis of highly luminescent conjugated mesoporous oligomers (CMOs) with an "aggregation-induced enhanced emission" (AIEE) feature through Wittig polymerization of a molecular rotor. Typical molecular rotors such as triphenylamine (TPA) and tetraphenylethene (TPE) as B2-, and A4- and A3-type nodes have been used to construct AIEE-active CMOs, namely, CMO1 and CMO2. The quick dissipation of the excited photons is successfully controlled by the restriction of rotation of the phenyl units through the formation of a mesoporous network scaffold in a solid/thin film, which provides high quantum yields for the interlocked CMO system. Both the CMOs are sensitive and selective to the various nitroaromatic explosives, whereas CMO1 is more sensitive (Ksv = 2.6 × 106 M-1) toward picric acid. The increased quenching constant for CMO1 is due to its increased quantum yield and high energy-transfer efficiency. The mechanism for sensing has been studied in detail. The larger pore size and pore density in the mesoporous network of CMO1 are found to be responsible for the greater extent of energy transfer from CMO1 to picric acid. Furthermore, CMO1 has been employed for low-cost filter-paper-based detection of a trace amount of nitroaromatic explosive materials.

A highly sensitive and selective detection of picric acid using fluorescent sulfur-doped graphene quantum dots. LUMINESCENCE 2020; 35:763-772. Abstract
The development of an analytical probe to monitor highly mutagenic picric acid (PA) carries enormous significance for the environment and for health. A novel, simple and rapid fluorescence analytical assay using sulfur-doped graphene quantum dots (SGQDs) was designed for the highly sensitive and selective detection of PA. SGQDs were synthesized via simple pyrolysis of 3-mercaptopropionic acid and citric acid and characterized using advanced analytical techniques. Fluorescence intensity (FI) of SGQDs was markedly quenched by addition of PA, attributed to the inner filter effect and dominating static quenching mechanism between the two, in addition to a significant colour change. The calibration curve of the proposed assay exhibited a favourable linearity between quenched FI and PA concentration over the 0.1-100 μΜ range with a lowest detection limit of 0.093 μΜ and a correlation coefficient of 0.9967. The analytical assay was investigated for detection of trace amounts of PA in pond and rain water samples and showed great potential for practical applications with both acceptable recovery (98.0-100.8%) and relative standard deviation (1.24-4.67%). Analytical performance of the assay in terms of its detection limit, linearity range, and recovery exhibited reasonable superiority over previously reported methods, thereby holding enormous promise as a simple, sensitive, and selective method for detection of PA.

Abstract
Powerful explosive sensors play a key role in public security and environmental protection. Herein, we report a series of isostructural lanthanide coordination polymers [Ln2L1.5(NMP)2] n (LnL: Ln = Eu, Gd, Tb, Dy, Ho, and Er; H4L = [1,1':4',1″-terphenyl]-2',4,4″,5'-tetracarboxylic acid; NMP = N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone) and mixed-Ln LnL (Eu xTb1- xL, Eu xGd1- xL, Tb xGd1- xL, and Eu xTb0.02- xGd0.98L). Luminescence studies show that both H4L and GdL emit strong fluorescence and phosphorescence at 77 K while only fluorescence at room temperature, and TbL exhibits strong Tb3+ characteristic emission, although the energy difference between the triplet excited state of H4L (20661 cm-1) and the 5D4 energy level of Tb3+ (20500 cm-1) is very small. By doping Eu3+ and Tb3+ into GdL, we obtained Eu xTb0.02- xGd0.98L emitting warm white light. For TbL and Tb0.01Gd0.99L showing dual emission, upon addition of picric acid (PA) into their suspensions in Tris-HCl buffer, Tb3+ emission decreases slowly; however, the ligand-based emission is sharply quenched, rendering TbL and Tb0.01Gd0.99L excellent single-lanthanide and mixed-lanthanide ratiometric luminescence PA sensor materials, respectively.

Abstract
Thin-film probes have been developed for the reversible detection and separation of picric acid (PA) with extreme sensitivity in aqueous media. The free radical copolymerization of dimethylacrylamide (DMA), benzophenone acrylamide (BPAM), and glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) with a feed ratio of 95:1:4 yielded [p(DMA- co-BPAM- co-GMA)] (P1). P1 was transformed to the final polymeric probe, P2, by a subsequent ring-opening reaction between N-(pyren-1-yl-methyl)propan-1-amine (Py-PA) with the epoxide unit of P1. P2 exhibited rapid and selective sensing properties toward PA in aqueous media via turn-off fluorescence emission. The detection sensitivity was tuned precisely by varying the pH of the solution. After the immobilization of P2 on a quartz slide by spin-coating, followed by exposure to UV light, the resulting film exhibited an attogram-level detection limit toward PA. The photoinduced electron transfer together with an energy-transfer process between PA and the pyrene units of P2 were maximized by the strong π-π stacking of pyrene units of P2, which, in turn, induced rapid exciton energy diffusion. Furthermore, the separation of PA from the mixture of the various nitroaromatic compounds by the P2 film was achieved. Whereas the detection process of PA was reversible and repeatable over multiple cycles, the P2 film could be recycled.

Abstract
A method requiring no pre-treatment steps other than filtration, using ultra-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS), has been developed and applied for the rapid determination of benzidine, picric acid, carbaryl, atrazine, and deltamethrin residues in surface water. Water samples were filtered with a 0.2-μ m syringe filter for particle removal and injected directly into the UPLC instrument. The separation was performed on a Waters Acquity UPLC HSS T3 column utilizing a gradient elution program of methanol (containing 2 mmol/L ammonium acetate) and water (containing 2 mmol/L ammonium acetate) as the mobile phases at a flow rate of 0.4 mL/min. The detection was accomplished by multiple-reaction monitoring scanning in positive/negative ion-switching electrospray ionization mode. Good linearity was observed in the range 0.10-10.0 μ g/L or 1.00-100 μ g/L for different targets with correlation coefficients of 0.996-0.999. The limits of detection (LODs) were 0.01-0.22 μ g/L. The recoveries ranged between 81.4% and 113% at three spiked levels with relative standard deviations (n=6) between 0.84% and 14.0%. The developed method was applied to the analysis of surface waters (river water and reservoir water) from Hangzhou; atrazine and deltamethrin were detected in part of the analyzed samples. This proposed method was characterized by high sensitivity and precision, extensive analytical range, and a high analytical rate, and showed suitability for the analysis of the five named pollutants in surface water.

Abstract
A novel conjugated cationic polyfluorene (polyelectrolyte) derivative, PFBT, was developed by means of simple and cost-effective oxidative coupling polymerization method. PFBT displayed dual state emission in dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) as well as in water, a characteristic phenomenon of polyfluorene homopolymers, and tested for nitroexplosive analytes detection to observe a remarkable fluorescence quenching response for picric acid (PA) in the both solvents. The polymer PFBT demonstrated substantial selectivity and ultrasensitivity toward nitroexplosive PA in both the solvents (DMSO and H2O) with exceptional quenching constant values of 2.69 × 104 and 2.18 × 105 M-1 and a ultralow limit of detection of 92.7 nM (21.23 ppb) and 0.19 nM (43.53 ppt) in respective solvents. Furthermore, economical portable test strip devices were prepared for easy and fast on-site PA sensing, which can detect up to 0.22 ag level of PA. PA sensing in vapor phase was also established, that could detect up to 42.6 ppb level of PA vapors. Interestingly, the mechanism of sensing in DMSO solvent was attributed to substantial inner filter effect and photoinduced electron transfer, while in H2O the sensing occurs via possible resonance energy transfer and photoinduced electron transfer, which is exceptional and not reported earlier for a single probe.

Abstract
A pristine aggregation-induced enhanced emission (AIEE) active monomer 2,5-bis(( E)-4-bromostyryl)-3,4-diphenylthiophene (TPBZ) and its copolymer (PFTPBZ) with 9,9-dioctylfluorene-2,7-diboronic acid bis(1,3-propandiol) ester have been synthesized via Suzuki coupling polymerization. PFTPBZ that is devoid of any receptor showed AIEE property and demonstrated excellent and selective fluorometric recognition of 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene (TNT) in aggregated state (aqueous medium) and picric acid (PA) in aggregated state and solution state (organic solvent) as well as in vapor phase via PFTPBZ dip-coated Whatman filter paper on a solid-phase platform in 1.86 ng level (naked eye). Limit of detection (LOD) for TNT in 95% water fraction ( fw) was 53.74 × 10-6 M, and at 40% fw, it was 14.26 × 10-7 M. PA detection in tetrahydrofuran solution was possible with a LOD of 28.16 × 10-7 M, 95% fw with LOD of 10.47 × 10-6 M, and in 40% fw with LOD of 47.39 × 10-8 M. As a unique example of structural design, the probe PFTPBZ surprisingly possesses no receptor, yet remarkably high selectivity was achieved via Förster resonance energy transfer (FRET) and photoinduced electron transfer from the copolymer PFTPBZ to PA and TNT. Detection of PA in the presence of various metal analytes and inorganic acids in real water samples (lakes, rivers, and sea water) was also demonstrated using this concept of receptor-free conjugated polymer probe.

Abstract
An aqueous 1:1 co-crystal salt formed from imidazole and picric acid was obtained in methanol solution. A three-dimensional hydrogen-bonded network is formed in the crystal by N—H⋯O, O—H⋯O and C—H⋯O hydrogen bonds and is further consolidated by π–π stacking interactions between pairs of imidazolium cations and picrate anions. The asymmetric unit of the title co-crystal salt, 1H-imidazol-3-ium 2,4,6-trinitrophenolate monohydrate, C4H7N2+·C6H2N3O7−·H2O, contains one imidazolium cation, one picrate anion and one solvent water molecule of crystallization. The phenolic proton has been transferred to an imidazole N atom. In the crystal, the components are linked by N—H⋯O and O—H⋯O hydrogen bonds into a three-dimensional network which is further consolidated by weak C—H⋯O hydrogen bonds. In addition, π–π stacking interactions occur between pairs of imidazolium cations and picrate anions. If only the classical N—H⋯O and O—H⋯O hydrogen bonds are considered, the component ions are linked into a three-dimensional threefold interpenetrating network of the topological type utp [or (10,3)-d]. Hirshfeld surface analysis indicates the crystal structure is mainly stabilized by H⋯·O contacts of the hydrogen bonds.

Abstract
Herein, we report a facile synthesis, characterization, and electrochemical sensing application of ZnO nanopeanuts synthesized by a simple aqueous solution process and characterized by various techniques in order to confirm the compositional, morphological, structural, crystalline phase, and optical properties of the synthesized material. The detailed characterizations revealed that the synthesized material possesses a peanut-shaped morphology, dense growth, and a wurtzite hexagonal phase along with good crystal and optical properties. Further, to ascertain the useful properties of the synthesized ZnO nanopeanut as an excellent electron mediator, electrochemical sensors were fabricated based on the form of a screen printed electrode (SPE). Electrochemical and current-voltage characteristics were studied for the determination of picric acid sensing characteristics. The electrochemical sensor fabricated based on the SPE technique exhibited a reproducible and reliable sensitivity of ~1.2 μA/mM (9.23 μA·mM−1·cm−2), a lower limit of detection at 7.8 µM, a regression coefficient (R2) of 0.94, and good linearity over the 0.0078 mM to 10.0 mM concentration range. In addition, the sensor response was also tested using simple I-V techniques, wherein a sensitivity of 493.64 μA·mM−1·cm−2, an experimental Limit of detection (LOD) of 0.125 mM, and a linear dynamic range (LDR) of 1.0 mM–5.0 mM were observed for the fabricated picric acid sensor.

Abstract
Reliable measurement of creatinine is necessary to assess kidney function, and also to quantitate drug levels and diagnostic compounds in urine samples. The most commonly used methods are based on the Jaffe principal of alkaline creatinine-picric acid complex color formation. However, other compounds commonly found in serum and urine may interfere with Jaffe creatinine measurements. Therefore, many laboratories have made modifications to the basic method to remove or account for these interfering substances. This appendix will summarize the basic Jaffe method, as well as a modified, automated version. Also described is a high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method that separates creatinine from contaminants prior to direct quantification by UV absorption. Lastly, a liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) method is described that uses stable isotope dilution to reliably quantify creatinine in any sample. This last approach has been recommended by experts in the field as a means to standardize all quantitative creatinine methods against an accepted reference. © 2017 by John Wiley & Sons, Inc.

Abstract
Picric acid (PA) is a severe environmental and security risk due to its unstable, toxic, and explosive properties. It is also challenging to detect in trace amounts and in situ because of its highly acidic and anionic character. Here, we assess sensing of PA under nonlaboratory conditions using surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) silver nanopillar substrates and hand-held Raman spectroscopy equipment. The advancing elasto-capillarity effects are explained by molecular dynamics simulations. We obtain a SERS PA detection limit on the order of 20 ppt, corresponding attomole amounts, which together with the simple analysis methodology demonstrates that the presented approach is highly competitive for ultrasensitive analysis in the field.

Water-Soluble Nonconjugated Polymer Nanoparticles with Strong Fluorescence Emission for Selective and Sensitive Detection of Nitro-Explosive Picric Acid in Aqueous Medium. Abstract
Water-soluble nonconjugated polymer nanoparticles (PNPs) with strong fluorescence emission were prepared from hyperbranched poly(ethylenimine) (PEI) and d-glucose via Schiff base reaction and self-assembly in aqueous phase. Preparation of the PEI-d-glucose (PEI-G) PNPs was facile (one-pot reaction) and environmentally friendly under mild conditions. Also, PEI-G PNPs showed a high fluorescence quantum yield in aqueous solution, and the fluorescence properties (such as concentration- and solvent-dependent fluorescence) and origin of intrinsic fluorescence were investigated and discussed. PEI-G PNPs were then used to develop a fluorescent probe for fast, selective, and sensitive detection of nitro-explosive picric acid (PA) in aqueous medium, because the fluorescence can be easily quenched by PA whereas other nitro-explosives and structurally similar compounds only caused negligible quenching. A wide linear range (0.05-70 μM) and a low detection limit (26 nM) were obtained. The fluorescence quenching mechanism was carefully explored, and it was due to a combined effect of electron transfer, resonance energy transfer, and inner filter effect between PA and PEI-G PNPs, which resulted in good selectivity and sensitivity for PA. Finally, the developed sensor was successfully applied to detection of PA in environmental water samples.

Abstract
A dye-sensitized metal-organic framework, TMU-5S, was synthesized based on introducing the laser dye Rhodamine B into the porous framework TMU-5. TMU-5S was investigated as a ratiometric fluorescent sensor for the detection of explosive nitro aromatic compounds and showed four times greater selectivity to picric acid than any state-of-the-art luminescent-based sensor. Moreover, it can selectively discriminate picric acid concentrations in the presence of other nitro aromatics and volatile organic compounds. Our findings indicate that using this sensor in two dimensions leads to a greatly reduced environmental interference response and thus creates exceptional sensitivity toward explosive molecules with a fast response.

Abstract
The asymmetric unit of the title organic salt [systematic name: 1H-pyrazol-2-ium 2,4,6-tri-nitro-phenolate-1H-pyrazole (1/1)], H(C3H4N2)2 (+)·C6H2N3O7 (-), consists of one picrate anion and one hydrogen-bonded dimer of a pyrazolium monocation. The H atom involved in the dimer N-H⋯N hydrogen bond is disordered over both symmetry-unique pyrazole mol-ecules with occupancies of 0.52 (5) and 0.48 (5). In the crystal, the component ions are linked into chains along [100] by two different bifurcated N-H⋯(O,O) hydrogen bonds. In addition, weak C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds link inversion-related chains, forming columns along [100].

Abstract
We report the conducting nature of carbon dots (Cdots) synthesized from citric acid and ethylene diamine. Chemically synthesized conducting nanocomposite consisting of Cdots and polypyrrole (PPy) is further reported, which showed higher electrical conductiviy in comparison to the components i.e., Cdots or PPy. The conductive film of the composite material was used for highly sensitive and selective detection of picric acid in water as well as in soil. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report on the conductivity based sensing application of Cdot nanocomposite contrary to the traditional fluorescence based sensing approaches.

Abstract
Spontaneously formed conjugated polymer nanoparticles (CPNs) or polymer dots displayed remarkable fluorescence response toward nitroexplosive-picric acid (PA) in multiple environments including 100% aqueous media, solid support using portable paper strips and vapor phase detection via two terminal device. This new cationic conjugated polyelectrolyte (CPE) poly(3,3'-((2-phenyl-9H-fluorene-9,9-diyl)bis(hexane-6,1-diyl))bis(1-methyl-1H-imidazol-3-ium)bromide) (PFMI) was synthesized by Suzuki coupling polymerization followed by post functionalization method without employing any hectic purification technique. Highest quenching constant value (K(sv)) of 1.12 × 10(8) M(-1) and a very low detection limit of 30.9 pM/7.07 ppt were obtained exclusively for PA in 100% aqueous environment which is rare and unique for any CPE/CPNs. Contact mode detection of PA was also performed using simple, cost-effective and portable fluorescent paper strips for achieving on-site detection. Furthermore, the two terminal sensor device fabricated with nanoparticles of PFMI (PFMI-NPs) provides an exceptional and unprecedented platform for the vapor mode detection of PA under ambient conditions. The mechanism for the ultrasensitivity of PFMI-NPs probe to detect PA is attributed to the "molecular-wire effect", electrostatic interaction, photoinduced electron transfer (PET), and possible resonance energy transfer (RET).

Abstract
The title salt {systematic name: bis-[1-(3-chloro-phen-yl)piperazinium 2,4,6-tri-nitro-phenolate]-picric acid (2/1)}, 2C10H14ClN2 (+)·2C6H5N3O7 (-)·C6H6N3O7, crystallized with two independent 1-(3-chloro-phen-yl)piperazinium cations, two picrate anions and a picric acid mol-ecule in the asymmetric unit. The six-membered piperazine ring in each cation adopts a slightly distorted chair conformation and contains a protonated N atom. In the picric acid mol-ecule, the mean planes of the nitro groups in the ortho-, meta-, and para-positions are twisted from the benzene ring by 31.5 (3), 7.7 (1), and 3.8 (2)°, respectively. In the anions, the dihedral angles between the benzene ring and the ortho-, meta-, and para-nitro groups are 36.7 (1), 5.0 (6), 4.8 (2)°, and 34.4 (9), 15.3 (8), 4.5 (1)°, respectively. The nitro group in one anion is disordered and was modeled with two sites for one O atom with an occupancy ratio of 0.627 (7):0.373 (7). In the crystal, the picric acid mol-ecule inter-acts with the picrate anion through a trifurcated O-H⋯O four-centre hydrogen bond involving an intra-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bond and a weak C-H⋯O inter-action. Weak inter-molecular C-H⋯O inter-actions are responsible for the formation of cation-anion-cation trimers resulting in a chain along [010]. In addition, weak C-H⋯Cl and weak π-π inter-actions [centroid-centroid distances of 3.532 (3), 3.756 (4) and 3.705 (3) Å] are observed and contribute to the stability of the crystal packing.

Abstract
The interaction of diazepam with picric acid (I), 3,5-dinitrobenzoic acid (II) and 2,4-dinitrobenzoic acid (III) was found to be useful for its spectrophotometric determination. The quantitation was carried out at 475, 500, and 500 nm for the reaction with (I), (II) and (III), respectively. The effect of several variables on the coloring process was studied. The proposed methods have been applied successfully for the determination of diazepam in pure samples and in its pharmaceutical preparations with good accuracy and precision. The results were compared to those obtained by the pharmacopoeial methods. The linear ranges for obedience of Beer's law are up to 85.6, 180.2, and 128.6 µg/ml, Ringbom ranges are 10.0-79.0, 15.2-177.8, 17.0-83.0 µg/ml, and RSD 0.048, 0.028, and 0.026% for reaction of diazepam with I, II, and III, respectively.
