Abstract
BACKGROUND Hypertension and prehypertension have been widely recognized as the main contributors of global mortality. Evidence shows mindfulness-based interventions may reduce blood pressure and improve mental health. However, the effect of mindfulness-based interventions on blood pressure and mental health has not been fully understood. METHODS Potential studies published before May 24th 2023 were identified by searching Embase, Ovid Emcare, PsycINFO, CINAHL, Web of Science, Cochrane, PubMed, China National Knowledge Infrastructure, Wanfang database, and VIP China Science. Additionally, two grey databases were searched: Mednar, WorldWideScience.org. The risk of bias in the included studies was assessed using the Cochrane Risk of Bias Assessment tool. The random-effects meta-analyses were conducted using Review Man 5.4 software and the key outcomes are presented as mean difference or standard mean difference and the 95% confidential interval. RESULTS Searches returned 802 studies in total, of which 12 were included (N = 715). The duration of interventions was 8 weeks in 10 trials and 6 weeks in one trial. Pooled effect sizes indicated reductions in systolic blood pressure (MD = - 9.12, 95% CI [- 12.18, - 6.05], p < 0.001), diastolic blood pressure (MD = - 5.66, 95% CI [- 8.88, - 2.43], p < 0.001), anxiety (SMD = - 4.10; 95% CI [- 6.49, - 1.71], p < 0.001), depression (SMD = - 1.70, 95%CI [- 2.95, - 0.44], p < 0.001) and perceived stress (SMD = - 5.91, 95%CI [- 8.74, - 3.09], p < 0.001) at post-intervention. The findings from subgroup analyses are favorable for mindfulness-based interventions regardless of gender and baseline blood pressure with regard to BP reduction, with a more profound effect observed in participants with higher pre-intervention blood pressure. CONCLUSIONS The results provide evidence for the positive role of mindfulness-based interventions in hypertension management. More large randomized control trials with sufficient statistical power and long-term follow-up are needed. Abstract
OBJECTIVE To determine the effectiveness of mindfulness interventions on anxiety through a systematic review. METHOD Systematic review by searching articles through the PubMed, ProQuest, Science Direct, Wiley Library, Sage Journal, and Cochrane Library databases with publication years January 2012 to January 2022 RESULTS: Eleven articles met the inclusion criteria covering several countries, including Canada 1 article, Egypt 1 article, Taiwan 1 article, Amsterdam 2 articles, Iran 1 article, Austria 1 article, San Francisco 1 article, Germany 1 article, Sweden 1 article, China 1 article, and Spain 1 article. CONCLUSIONS Management of anxiety about childbirth is important for pregnant women. Mindfulness interventions are effective for reducing anxiety about labor and increasing comfort during labor. Mindfulness intervention mechanisms have the potential to reduce anxiety by increasing skills to regulate emotions.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Dental anxiety and pain pose serious problems for both patients and dentists. One of the most stressful and frightening dental procedures for patients is dental implant surgery; that even hearing its name causes them stress. Virtual reality (VR) distraction is an effective intervention used by healthcare professionals to help patients cope with unpleasant procedures. Our aim is to evaluate the use of high-quality VR and natural environments on dental implant patients to determine the effect on reducing pain and anxiety. METHODS Seventy-three patients having two dental implant surgeries participated in a randomized controlled trial. One surgery was with VR, and one was without. Anxiety was measured with the the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory and the Modified Dental Anxiety Scale tests. The pain was measured with the Numerical Rating Scales. Patient satisfaction, surgeon distress, memory vividness, and time perception were evaluated. Physiological data were collected with biofeedback and neurofeedback device. RESULTS VR effectively reduced anxiety and pain compared to no VR. Physiological data validated the questionnaire results. Patient satisfaction increased, with 90.4% willing to reuse VR. VR reduced time perception and memory vividness. CONCLUSION Psychometric and psychophysiological assessments showed that VR successfully reduced patient pain and anxiety. More dental clinicians should use VR technology to manage patient anxiety and pain.

Abstract
The health of city residents is at risk due to the high rate of urbanization and the extensive use of electronics. In the context of urbanization, individuals have become increasingly disconnected from nature, resulting in elevated stress levels among adults. The goal of this study was to investigate the physical and psychological benefits of spending time in nature. The benefits of touching real grass and artificial turf (the control activity) outdoors with the palm of the hand for five minutes were measured. Blood pressure and electroencephalography (EEG) as well as State-trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) scores, and the semantic differential scale (SDM) were used to investigate psychophysiological responses. Touching real grass was associated with significant changes in brainwave rhythms and a reduction in both systolic and diastolic blood pressure compared to touching artificial turf. In addition, SDM scores revealed that touching real grass increased relaxation, comfort, and a sense of naturalness while decreasing anxiety levels. Compared to the control group, the experimental group had higher mean scores in both meditation and attentiveness. Our findings indicate that contact with real grass may reduce physiological and psychological stress in adults.

Abstract
PURPOSE OF THE ARTICLE Health professions graduate students have experienced substantial increases in stress and anxiety in recent years. This can result in decreased academic performance, poor retention, and burnout. Interventions to help students cope are therefore a critical need for academic institutions. The current study sought to demonstrate the effectiveness of a brief multimodal intervention in reducing student distress. METHOD The study was a randomised controlled design that evaluated a brief intervention of cognitive-behavioural therapy, mindfulness, and healthy lifestyle choices. The Depression Anxiety Stress Scale-21 was administered to participants at baseline and two post-intervention time points. Control participants did not participate in any intervention. Participants were recruited from graduate students in first-year classes within the School of Health Professions at UT Southwestern Medical Center. RESULTS Analysis revealed an overall mild to moderate decline in Depression Anxiety Stress Scale-21 total scores over three assessment periods for both treatment and control groups, with no statistical differences noted between groups; however, the treatment group's scores declined approximately 6 weeks before the control participants' scores declined. CONCLUSION The pattern of change in the two groups suggests that our intervention facilitated the reduction in student anxiety more quickly than would have occurred normally and with sustained results.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Reducing pain and fear during painful medical procedures in children is important since mismanagement of pain causes the child and parent to feel anxious, which can have negative long-term consequences. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of two different distraction methods in reducing pain and fear during the phlebotomy procedure in children. METHOD The study, which has a randomized controlled experimental design was conducted between July and October 2020 with 111 children aged 6-12 years who underwent phlebotomy in the emergency department of a public hospital and their parents. The children were randomly assigned to soap bubble blowing (n:37), ball squeezing (n:37) and control (n:37) groups. During the phlebotomy, soap bubble blowing, and ball squeezing methods were used as active distraction methods. Data were collected using the Wong Baker Faces Pain Rating Scale, and the Children's Fear Scale. RESULTS The pain scores of the soap bubble blowing group and the ball squeezing group during the phlebotomy procedure were found to be lower than the control group (p < 0.001). In addition, the soap bubble blowing group had lower fear scores than the ball squeezing and control groups (p < 0.001). CONCLUSION The active distraction methods used in the study reduced pain and fear during the phlebotomy procedure. In addition, the method of soap bubble blowing was found to be a more effective method in reducing fear. Distraction methods should be used as a nursing intervention to reduce pain and fear during the phlebotomy procedure in children.

Abstract
With the transformation of the biopsychosocial medical model, psychological problems and related interventions for breast cancer patients have received more and more attention. Patients often have various psychological problems, in diagnosis, treatment, and even in the state of disease-free survival, such as anxiety and depression, which not only seriously reduces the quality of life, but also affects the follow-up treatment and increases the risk of recurrence and metastasis. Therefore, physicians should perform routine psychological screening and appropriate intervention for patients. In recent years, psychological intervention has gradually become an important part of comprehensive breast cancer treatment, in which cognitive behavior therapy can alleviate patients' anxiety and sleep disorders, mindfulness therapy can treat patients' anxiety, depression and fear of cancer recurrence, and psychoeducational support is mainly used to address patients' mood disorders and sexual dysfunction. Improving patients' compliance with treatment and quality of life is the main goal of psychological intervention for breast cancer patients.

Abstract
RATIONALE AND OBJECTIVES Despite being a minimally invasive procedure, biopsy can cause pain and anxiety in patients. Therefore, it is important to reduce the pain and anxiety levels of patients. The present study aims to investigate the effect of music on patient anxiety and pain levels during thyroid fine needle aspiration biopsy. MATERIALS AND METHODS In this randomized controlled single-blind study, a validated State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) consisting of 40 questions in total was used to evaluate patient anxiety rates. The STAI consists of two sections: the state anxiety scale (SAS) measuring instant anxiety and the trait anxiety scale measuring general anxiety. Patients were divided into two groups: Group 1 those who did not listen to music during a biopsy and group 2 those who listened to music. The Visual Analogue Scale was used to evaluate patient pain levels. RESULTS Group 1 consisted of 46 patients and Group 2 consisted of 45 patients. After the procedure, the mean SAS scores of Groups 1 and 2 were not significantly different (p = 0.24). However, The state anxiety scale differences, which represents the decrease in pre-procedure and post-procedure anxiety levels (SAS1-SAS2) was statistically different among the groups (p = 0.01). There was a significant difference between the two groups in terms of VAS score distribution (p = 0.01). CONCLUSION Music therapy is an easily applicable, cheap, and safe method that can be used to decrease anxiety and pain levels in patients during thyroid biopsy as evidenced by this research.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Intramuscular injections, which children frequently experience during hospitalization, are one of the most significant causes of pain. Pain control is an important part of care. Therefore, it is necessary to provide practical methods in the field of nursing care to reduce injection-related pain. AIM This study aimed to determine the effect of the Helfer skin tap technique on pain, anxiety, and fear in children undergoing intramuscular injection. METHOD This randomized controlled clinical study (NCT05250804) was conducted in a pediatric emergency department between January and July 2022. A total of 64 children aged 4-10 years were randomly divided into two groups: 32 children in the Helfer skin tap group (HG), and 32 children in the control group (CG). Data were collected using the Wong-Baker FACES Pain Rating Scale, the Child Anxiety Scale-State, and the Child Fear Scale. RESULTS After the intramuscular injection, children in the HG had significantly lower levels of pain, anxiety, and fear than those in the CG, with mean scores of 3.25±1.50 versus 5.18±1.51, 5.87±1.56, versus 6.23±1.46, and 1.68±0.53 versus 3.15±0.76, respectively (p<0.001 for all scores). CONCLUSION The Helfer skin tap technique has positive effects on pain, anxiety, and fear in children during intramuscular injection. This technique can be used by nurses to reduce the pain, anxiety, and fear felt by children receiving an intramuscular injection.

Abstract
RATIONALE Using routine synthetic drugs in the treatment of psychiatric disorders may have some restrictions due to serious side effects and pharmacoresistance. Some natural agents may be promising alternatives in this case. The neuroprotective activity of the neuromodulator adenosine and its receptor, A1 receptor (A1R) in the central nervous system has been mentioned in different studies. OBJECTIVE We aimed to determine the anxiolytic, antidepressant and sedative effects of Japanese sake yeast as the first report. METHOD Mice were subjected to a one-week stress protocol and concomitantly treated orally with sake yeast at the dose levels of 100, 200 and 300 mg kg-1 once daily for a week. The anxiolytic, antidepressant, and sedative actions of sake yeast were evaluated with the related tests. RESULTS In all dose regiments, sake yeast significantly improved functions in the EPM and FST. 200 and 300 mg/kg of sake yeast significantly increased sleep duration and reduced sleep latency. Anxiolytic and antidepressant-like activities of sake yeast were maintained by the injection of ZM241385 (15 mg kg-1), a selective adenosine A2AR antagonist but completely counteracted by the injection of 8-cyclopentyltheophylline (10 mg kg-1), a selective adenosine A1R antagonist. 300 mg/kg of the yeast significantly increased the BDNF levels. Amygdala corticosterone levels did not show any significant changes at any dosage. Amygdala TNF-α, IL-6 and IL-1β levels also decreased significantly with all the sake regiments compared to the control group. CONCLUSIONS We conclude that oral sake yeast supplement exerts a neurobehavioral protective effect predominantly by activating central A1Rs.

Abstract
RATIONALE Alpha-lipoic acid is an essential cofactor for aerobic metabolism and acts as a potent antioxidant in the body. It has been shown that acute exposure to methamphetamine induces oxidative stress, which is responsible for severe cognitive deficits in animals. The hippocampus plays a crucial role in the processing of memory and anxiety-like behavior. OBJECTIVES In this study, preventive effect of the alpha-lipoic acid on memory impairment in methamphetamine-induced neurotoxicity was investigated. METHODS Wistar male rats (200-220 g) were allocated to five groups (seven rats in each group): (1) saline + saline, (2) saline + vehicle (sunflower oil as alpha-lipoic acid solvent), (3) methamphetamine + vehicle, (4) methamphetamine + alpha-lipoic acid 10 mg/kg, and (5) methamphetamine + alpha-lipoic acid 40 mg/kg. Rats received intraperitoneal methamphetamine repeatedly (2 × 20 mg/kg, 2 h interval). Alpha-lipoic acid was injected 30 min, 24 h, and 48 h after the last injection of methamphetamine. The passive avoidance test and open field were used for evaluation of memory retrieval and anxiety, respectively. After behavioral test, rats were anesthetized, their brains were extracted, and after preparing hippocampal homogenates, malondialdehyde (MDA) level, catalase, and superoxide dismutase (SOD) activities were evaluated. RESULTS Statistical analysis showed that injection of saline or sunflower oil had no significant effect on anxiety, memory, or oxidative stress markers. Methamphetamine induced memory impairment, increased anxiety-like behavior and MDA level, but it reduced catalase and SOD activity. Treatment with alpha-lipoic acid decreased MDA, increased catalase and SOD activity, and also prevented memory impairment and anxiety-like behavior. Our results showed that alpha-lipoic acid protected the hippocampus from oxidative stress by elevating SOD and CAT activities and reduced memory impairment following acute methamphetamine injection. These findings suggest that alpha-lipoic acid may have a protective effect against the adverse effects of methamphetamine exposure on the hippocampus. Therefore, the current data indicated that ALA can reduce oxidative stress predominantly by its antioxidant property.

Abstract
BACKGROUND AND AIMS Virtual reality has been shown to be an effective non-pharmacological intervention for reducing anxiety of pediatric patients. A newer immersive technology, that of augmented reality, offers some practical advantages over virtual reality, and also seems to show beneficial effects on anxiety. The main objective of this study was to determine whether augmented reality could reduce preoperative anxiety in pediatric patients undergoing elective day surgeries. A secondary outcome was to document the level of satisfaction from pediatric patients toward augmented reality intervention. METHODS Children and adolescents aged between 5 and 17 years old scheduled for elective day surgery under general anesthesia were randomly divided into two groups. Patients in the control group received standard care, whereas patients in the augmented reality group were accompanied by two virtual characters who taught them relaxation techniques and provided emotional and informational support. Anxiety was measured at the time of admission and at the time of induction using the short version of the modified Yale Preoperative Anxiety Scale. RESULTS The analysis included 37 pediatric patients in the augmented reality group and 64 in the control group. Anxiety scores were statistically significantly lower in the augmented reality group than those in the control group at the time of admission (median difference [95% CI]: 6.3 [0-10.4], p = .01), while no difference was observed between groups at the time of induction (median difference [95% CI]: -4.2 [-5.2-4.2], p = .58). Most patients in the augmented reality group wished to wear the glasses again and reported to be very satisfied with the intervention. CONCLUSION To our knowledge, this study is the first large randomized controlled trial to provide empirical evidence of reduction in anxiety for children and adolescents using augmented reality prior to induction of general anesthesia.

Abstract
The majority of pediatric patients and their parents experience fear and anxiety related to their surgical experience. Traditionally, anesthesia providers addressed this anxiety with pharmacologic therapy, such as benzodiazepines, to provide amnesia and anxiolysis. However, this approach has been questioned due to the potential for developmental neurotoxicity, among other drawbacks. Further, the pharmacological approach does not remove preexisting anxiety that the child and parent experience before arrival and during check-in. Pediatric and parental preparation before surgery is an important step that continues to be inconsistently addressed, particularly in lower-resource community hospitals where the majority of routine pediatric outpatient procedures occur. This care gap provides an opportunity for preanesthesia nurses to intervene with valid, evidence-based preoperative education tools aimed at pediatric patients and their parents. Providing these resources before the day of surgery allows time for child-directed, at-home practice as often as the parent(s) and patient choose. Use of available resources from a leading children's hospital, nurses can create a tailored, developmentally appropriate preoperative education plan for pediatric patients and their parents, providing families with the power to create a positive surgical experience.

Abstract
This Quasi Experimental study was conducted at Major Eye Clinic, Gujranwala, from January to December 2022, to study the effect of muting the sound of Argon Laser machine on patient compliance and the pain felt during pan-retinal photocoagulation (PRP). Eighty patients were included in the study with proliferative diabetic retinopathy (PDR), retinal breaks, lattice and myopic fundus degenerations for which PRP was performed. A total of 80 patients were enrolled, who were divided in two groups with 40 patients in each group. Group A patients received muted machine settings, while group B underwent regular PRP. The mean age was 54.6±3.4 years. Sixty-eight (85%) cases were of PDR, 4 (5%) of retinal breaks, 3 (3.75%) of lattice degenerations associated with breaks, and 5 (6.25%) of laser barrage. In group A, 28 (70%) patients had grade 1 and grade 2 pain score, while in group B, 26 (65%) had grade 3 and grade 4 pain score. It was concluded that by eliminating machine sound, noise anxiety can be greatly reduced ensuring better patient cooperation.

Abstract
Repeated closed head injury (rCHI) is one of the most common brain injuries. Although extensive studies have focused on how to treat rCHI-induced brain injury and reduce the possibility of developing memory deficits, the prevention of rCHI-induced anxiety has received little research attention. The current study was designed to assess the effects of photobiomodulation (PBM) therapy in preventing anxiety following rCHI. The rCHI disease model was constructed by administering three repeated closed-head injuries within an interval 5 days. 2-min daily PBM therapy using an 808 nm continuous wave laser at 350 mW/cm2 on the scalp was implemented for 20 days. We found that PBM significantly ameliorated rCHII-induced anxiety-like behaviors, neuronal apoptosis, neuronal injury, promotes astrocyte/microglial polarization to anti-inflammatory phenotype, preserves mitochondrial fusion-related protein MFN2, attenuates the elevated mitochondrial fission-related protein DRP1, and mitigates neuronal senescence. We concluded that PBM therapy possesses great potential in preventing anxiety following rCHI.

Abstract
ABSTRACTObjetives: Omega-3 (n3) fatty acids have been studied as an option to alleviate the harmful effects of obesity. However, its role in obesity-related behavioral changes is still controversial. This study aimed to evaluate the effects of n3 on behavior and neuroinflammation in obese animals. Methods: Male Wistar rats were divided into four groups: control diet (CT), CT+n3, cafeteria diet (CAF), and CAF+n3. Diet was administered for 13 weeks, and n3 was supplemented during the last 5 weeks. Metabolic and biochemical parameters were evaluated, as well as anxiety-like behaviors. Immunoblots were conducted in the animals' cerebral cortex and hippocampus to assess changes in neuroinflammatory markers.Results: CAF-fed animals showed higher weight gain, visceral adiposity, fasting glucose, total cholesterol, triglycerides, and insulin levels, and n3 improved the lipid profile and restored insulin sensitivity. CAF-fed rats showed anxiety-like behaviors in the open field and light-dark box tasks but not in the contextual aversive conditioning. Omega-3 did not exert any effect on these behaviors. Regarding neuroinflammation, diet and supplementation acted in a region-specific manner. In the hippocampus, CAF reduced claudin-5 expression with no effect of n3, indicating a brain-blood barrier disruption following CAF. Furthermore, in the hippocampus, the glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) and toll-like receptor 4 (TLR-4) were reduced in treated obese animals. However, n3 could not reverse the TLR-4 expression increase in the cerebral cortex.Discussion: Although n3 may protect against some neuroinflammatory manifestations in the hippocampus, it does not seem sufficient to reverse the increase in anxiolytic manifestations caused by CAF.

Abstract
Diet quality may be an important modifiable risk factor for mental health disorders. However, these findings have been inconsistent, particularly in older adults. We explored the independent associations between adherence to a Mediterranean diet (MedDiet) and severity of symptoms related to depression, anxiety and stress in older adults from Australia. This was a cross-sectional analysis of older Australians ≥ 60 years. MedDiet adherence was assessed using the Mediterranean Diet Adherence Screener (MEDAS), and the Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS-21) was used to assess the severity of negative emotional symptoms. A total of n = 294 participants were included in the final analyses (70.4 ± 6.2 years). Adherence to a MedDiet was inversely associated with the severity of anxiety symptoms (β = -0.118; CI: -0.761, -0.012; p = 0.043) independent of age, gender, BMI, physical activity, sleep, cognitive risk and ability to perform activities of daily living. Furthermore, MedDiet adherence was inversely associated with symptoms of stress (β = -0.151; CI: -0.680, -0.073; p = 0.015) independent of age, gender, BMI, physical activity and sleep. However, no relationship between MedDiet adherence and depressive symptoms was observed. We showed that adherence to a MedDiet is inversely associated with the severity of symptoms related to anxiety and stress but not depression. Exploring these findings with the use of longitudinal analyses and robust clinical trials are needed to better elucidate these findings in older adults.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Hemodialysis patients are prone to anxiety and depression due to physiological changes and psychological tensions that leave irreversible effects on the patients. In this regard, the present study was an attempt to provide a simulated situation by using virtual reality on the anxiety level of dialysis patients before performing surgical procedures. METHODS This non-equivalent groups pre-posttest quasi-experimental study was conducted in 2022 in a hemodialysis ward of Imam Khomeini General Hospital affiliated with Tehran University of Medical Sciences. The study population was patients suffering from kidney failure referred to this hospital. The participants were 30 patients selected from the study population, who were allocated into two groups (15 in each experimental and control group). The control group received routine training in the ward. The experimental group participants watched five educational virtual reality (VR) contents in addition to the routine training. They used head-mounted display VR (VR BOX headset 2.0 virtual reality glasses) to immerse in a virtual environment similar to the real world covering the experience of entering the operating room, during the surgery, and after surgery. The data gathering instrument was a valid and reliable anxiety inventory. The collected data was analyzed at a significance level of 0.05. RESULTS The study findings indicated that the anxiety scores of the experimental and control groups had no significant difference before intervention. However, after the intervention of virtual reality, the state and trait anxiety of the experimental group participants were significantly lower than the control group (P-value < 0.01). CONCLUSION The application of VR for maintenance hemodialysis patients before invasive surgical procedures decreases patients' anxiety. Considering the devastating and undeniable impacts of anxiety on the lives of patients referring to hemodialysis centers, the application of VR is suggested to decrease their anxiety.

INTRODUCTION AND METHODS Prostate biopsy (PB) is an essential step in the diagnosis and active surveillance of prostate cancer (PCa). Transperineal PB (TP-PB) is now the recommended approach and is mostly conducted under local anesthesia. However, this procedure can potentially cause anxiety for patients, given the oncological context and the fear of peri-procedural pain and complications. The objective of this narrative review is to summarize the currently available tools for the management of peri-interventional anxiety during TP-PB, with a particular emphasis on the potential role of virtual reality (VR) in this setting. RESULTS In TP-PB, preoperative anxiety can lead to increased pain perception, longer procedure time, and decreased patient satisfaction. Pharmacological and non-pharmacological approaches have been explored to reduce anxiety, such as premedication, deep sedation, education, relaxation techniques, hypnosis, and music therapy, albeit with mixed results. VR has recently emerged in the technological armamentarium for managing pain and anxiety, and the efficiency of this technology has been evaluated in various medical fields, including pediatrics, gastroenterology, urology, gynecology, and psychiatry. CONCLUSION Despite the paucity of available data, VR appears to be a safe and effective technique in reducing anxiety in many procedures, even in frail patients. No studies have evaluated the role of VR in TP-PB. Future research should thus explore the optimal way to implement VR technology and any potential benefits for TP-PB patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND The Identifying Child Anxiety Through Schools-identification to intervention (iCATS-i2i) trial is being conducted to establish whether 'screening and intervention', consisting of usual school practice plus a pathway comprising screening, feedback and a brief parent-led online intervention (OSI: Online Support and Intervention for child anxiety), bring clinical and health economic benefits compared to usual school practice and assessment only - 'usual school practice', for children aged 8-9 years in the following: (1) the 'target population', who initially screen positive for anxiety problems according to a two-item parent-report child anxiety questionnaire - iCATS-2, and (2) the 'total population', comprising all children in participating classes. This article describes the detailed statistical analysis plan for the trial. METHODS AND DESIGN iCATS-i2i is a definitive, superiority, pragmatic, school-based cluster randomised controlled trial (with internal pilot), with two parallel groups. Schools are randomised 1:1 to receive either screening and intervention or usual school practice. This article describes the following: trial objectives and outcomes; statistical analysis principles, including detailed estimand information necessary for aligning trial objectives, conduct, analyses and interpretation when there are different analysis populations and outcome measures to be considered; and planned main analyses, sensitivity and additional analyses. Abstract
BACKGROUND Implantable cardioverter defibrillators (ICD), as a gold and standard treatment for fatal cardiac arrhythmia, may lead to some physical and psychological problems for the patients. Therefore, performing some interventions to reduce or eliminate these issues is crucial. This study aimed to determine the effect of virtual interactive nurse-led support group intervention on fatigue, shock anxiety, and acceptance of ICD patients. METHODS This is a clinical trial study on 72 patients with ICD. They were randomly allocated to the intervention (n = 36) and control (n = 36) groups. A virtual interactive nurse-led support group intervention through WhasApp was performed for one month. Multidimensional fatigue inventory, Florida Shock Anxiety Scale, and Florida Patient Acceptance Scale were used. Data were analyzed to perform the analysis of data through SPSS, using independent and paired-t test, Mann-Whitney U test, Wilcoxon test, and ANCOVA. RESULTS Before the intervention, no significant difference was observed between the two groups with regard to fatigue, shock anxiety, and ICD acceptance. However, after the intervention, a significant difference was found between the two groups with regard to fatigue, shock anxiety, and ICD acceptance (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION This study showed that virtual interactive nurse-led support group intervention reduced fatigue and shock anxiety and improved the ICD acceptance. PRACTICE IMPLICATIONS This flexible, accessible, and interactive nurse-led support group intervention is suggested to be used for ICD patients. Abstract
BACKGROUND Induction of labor with an extra-amniotic balloon catheter is a procedure commonly associated with maternal discomfort, pain, and anxiety. OBJECTIVE We aimed to investigate the distractive effect of virtual reality technology on pain and anxiety among pregnant patients who underwent induction of labor with an extra-amniotic balloon catheter. STUDY DESIGN In this randomized controlled trial, pregnant patients who were undergoing planned induction of labor using an extra-amniotic balloon catheter at term for various obstetrical indications were recruited and randomized in a 1:1 ratio into 2 groups. Patients in the virtual reality group were exposed to a virtual reality technology clip (using SootheVR All-In-One virtual reality care system for pain and anxiety) during the entire extra-amniotic balloon catheter insertion, whereas patients in the control group received the institutional standard care for extra-amniotic balloon catheter insertion. Pain scores, expressed as visual analog scale scores, and maternal hemodynamic parameters were obtained before, during, and after extra-amniotic balloon catheter insertion. Anxiety was evaluated using the validated State-Trait Anxiety Inventory Scale before and after the procedure. Maternal satisfaction with the virtual reality technology was also recorded. The primary outcome was the change in visual analog scale score before and during extra-amniotic balloon catheter insertion. Among the secondary outcomes was the change in anxiety levels before and after extra-amniotic balloon catheter insertion. The study was powered to detect a 25% decrease in the primary outcome. RESULTS A total of 132 pregnant patients were recruited (66 in each group). There were no differences between groups in terms of age, body mass index, gestational age at enrollment, indication for induction of labor, and preprocedural visual analog scale score and anxiety levels. The change in visual analog scale score (maximal visual analog scale score during the procedure minus the initial visual analog scale score before the procedure, ie, the primary outcome) was significantly lower in the virtual reality group than in the control group (2.78±3.0 vs 4.09±2.99; P=.01). In addition, the virtual reality group experienced a higher rate of anxiety relief, expressed as the difference between the preprocedure and postprocedure State-Trait Anxiety Inventory Scale scores (-6.46±9.6 vs -2.01±9.11; P=.007). Patients in the virtual reality group reported a very high overall (94%) satisfaction score. CONCLUSION In this randomized controlled trial, we demonstrated that the use of virtual reality technology among patients who underwent induction of labor using an extra-amniotic balloon catheter was associated with lower visual analog scale scores during the procedure and a significant reduction in anxiety than patients who received standard care. There was also a very high satisfaction rate with the use of virtual reality technology.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Child anxiety before general anaesthesia and surgery is common. Midazolam is a commonly used premedication to address this. Melatonin is an alternative anxiolytic, however trials evaluating its efficacy in children have delivered conflicting results. METHODS This multicentre, double-blind randomised trial was performed in 20 UK NHS Trusts. A sample size of 624 was required to declare noninferiority of melatonin. Anxious children, awaiting day case elective surgery under general anaesthesia, were randomly assigned 1:1 to midazolam or melatonin premedication (0.5 mg kg-1, maximum 20 mg) 30 min before transfer to the operating room. The primary outcome was the modified Yale Preoperative Anxiety Scale-Short Form (mYPAS-SF). Secondary outcomes included safety. Results are presented as n (%) and adjusted mean differences with 95% confidence intervals. RESULTS The trial was stopped prematurely (n=110; 55 per group) because of recruitment futility. Participants had a median age of 7 (6-10) yr, and 57 (52%) were female. Intention-to-treat and per-protocol modified Yale Preoperative Anxiety Scale-Short Form analyses showed adjusted mean differences of 13.1 (3.7-22.4) and 12.9 (3.1-22.6), respectively, in favour of midazolam. The upper 95% confidence interval limits exceeded the predefined margin of 4.3 in both cases, whereas the lower 95% confidence interval excluded zero, indicating that melatonin was inferior to midazolam, with a difference considered to be clinically relevant. No serious adverse events were seen in either arm. CONCLUSION Melatonin was less effective than midazolam at reducing preoperative anxiety in children, although the early termination of the trial increases the likelihood of bias. Abstract
High-resolution esophageal manometry (HREM) is a fundamental diagnostic tool in esophagology. Educational tools for this procedure have remained scarce. This quality improvement project aimed to develop an enhanced digital recording about HREM and assess the effect on patient knowledge, anxiety, satisfaction, and procedure abortion rates. The Institute for Healthcare Improvement Model for Improvement and the self-regulation theory guided this project. An interprofessional team was formed. A video recording of the pre-, peri-, and post-HREM care was created. Participants were recruited in the following four cycles: Baseline, Workstation, Manometry, and Home. Questionnaires were collected pre- and postvideo education. The results demonstrated a significant increase in knowledge from 60% to 96% ( p < .001), 58% to 96% ( p < .001), 79% to 96% ( p < .001), and 92% to 97% ( p = .02) and reductions in anxiety from 7.1 to 5.5 ( p = .003), 7.6 to 6.1 ( p = .003), 7.1 to 6.5 ( p < .001), and 6.4 to 6.1 ( p = .03) in all four groups. Almost all (99.5%) participants liked the recorded education and only 2.6% of cases were aborted during the 1-year project implementation period from June 2020 to May 2021. Findings from this project support the positive impact of recorded patient education. An educational recording is standardized and has the potential to be implemented in variable settings.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the impact of Transcendental Meditation® (TM®) practice on the multidimensional well-being of nurse clinicians affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. BACKGROUND The health of clinical nurses has substantial impact on both the availability of a nursing workforce and the quality and safety of patient care. TM improved health and coping strategies across many populations. METHODS Clinical nurses were recruited from 3 Magnet®-designated hospitals during the COVID-19 pandemic. Well-being outcomes included flourishing, burnout, anxiety, and posttraumatic stress disorder. Participants were randomized following completion of baseline surveys into immediate (intervention) or delayed (control) TM instruction. Surveys were repeated at 1 and 3 months following baseline survey or TM instruction. Repeated-measures analysis of variance compared differences in groups over time. RESULTS Across the 3 sites, there were 104 clinical nurse participants. Repeated-measures analysis of variance showed significant medium to large effects in improvement over time in well-being measures for the intervention group. CONCLUSIONS TM improved multidimensional well-being of clinical nurses by reducing posttraumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and burnout and improving flourishing. TM is easy to practice anywhere. The benefits are immediate and cumulative. Organizations and individual nurses can use TM to support clinical nurses in the difficult and meaningful work of patient care, especially in challenging times. Future studies may consider the feasibility of integrating TM into clinical shifts and evaluating its impact on patient and organizational outcomes.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION In pediatric patients, PICC insertion is often performed under sedation to reduce pain and anxiety, which is associated with risks such as laryngospasm, apnea, and hypoxia. Furthermore, it requires a pediatric anesthesiologist. The aim of our study was to evaluate the VR as an alternative to pharmacological sedation to reduce those risks and the overall cost. METHODS We tested a VR immersive experience for ten children requiring a PICC. To achieve this, we ran a software, specifically designed for the pediatric healthcare setting, on a commercially available VR headset.In order to evaluate this new practice, we recorded the following data:Patient's anxiety before and after the procedure, recorded through a modified numeric rating scale from 0 (no anxiety) to 10 (worst anxiety imaginable).Patient's pain before (e.g., because of preexisting medical conditions) and after the procedure through a Wong-Baker scale.Caregiver's satisfaction.No active or passive restraint was enforced during the whole procedure, patients had to keep their arms still all by themselves. RESULT Out of the 10 patients only in a single case, we had to interrupt the attempt with the VR technique and let the anesthesiologist perform a sedation. From the immediate beginning said patient had trouble adapting to the virtual environment and tried to remove the headset.In all other cases, we noticed a drop in the anxiety level of the patient and the pain never increased. Globally, caregivers were pleased with the experience and reported an average satisfaction rate of 9.3 out of 10. CONCLUSION Virtual reality seems a valid alternative to traditional sedation in pediatric patients undergoing a PICC placement procedure. Additional studies, with adequate sample size, of patients are necessary to assess the benefit from this new approach, as well as its impact on the overall procedure length.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Emergency simulation training may impose a heavy psychological burden on health professions students (HPS), evoking anxiety, and overwhelming their cognitive load. Mindfulness may have a positive impact on HPS' anxiety, cognitive load, and teamwork during simulation training. The effects of integration of a brief pre-briefing mindfulness meditation (MM) practice into emergency simulation training, on anxiety, cognitive load, and teamwork remain understudied. METHODS From November 2021 to June 2022, 70 undergraduate HPS participated in this pilot randomized controlled study. Participants were randomly assigned to the experimental group (EG, n = 24) that completed a brief in-person mindfulness meditation training program (MMTP) (2 h/week during 4 weeks) or a control group (CG, n = 46). Each group was comprised of teams (2 medical students and 1-2 nursing students). Measures of anxiety, mindfulness, cognitive load, and teamwork were collected at 4-time points: baseline, after the completion of the brief MMTP (for the EG only), at the first simulation assessment within one month later, and the second (6-month follow-up) simulation assessment. Student's t and Wilcoxon Mann-Whiney tests were used to compare the groups' measures and changes over time. A one-way repeated measures ANOVA was conducted to assess anxiety and mindfulness scores' changes over time among EG participants. RESULTS 52 participants completed all time-point assessments. EG participants recorded better state-anxiety, cognitive load, and teamwork scores than the CG participants in both simulation assessments. However, no statistically significant differences were recorded between the EG and the CG in trait-anxiety and mindfulness at the 6-month follow-up assessment. CONCLUSION Brief pre-briefing MM practice mitigates HPS' state-anxiety, and promotes cognitive load, and teamwork during emergency simulation training. Simulation instructors should consider MM practice in the emergency healthcare simulation instructional design.

Abstract
PURPOSE In the literature, the efficacy of mandala coloring on pregnancy-related anxiety has been investigated, and no study has been found on its effect on anxiety. This randomized controlled trial was designed to assess the efficacy of mandala coloring application on pregnancy-related anxiety. METHODS The study included 77 primiparous pregnant women: 39 in the control group and 38 in the experimental group, and was carried out in an education-research hospital's obstetric clinic. Data for the study were gathered using Information Form, the Pregnancy-related Anxiety Scale, and the State Anxiety Inventory. While the experimental group did mandala coloring during a month twice in a week, and the control group was not do anything. The "Pregnancy-related Anxiety Scale" and "The State Anxiety Inventor" were used to assess anxiety in all groups before and after application. In the statistical analysis of the data, the SPSS 23.0 package program was used. In all tests, p < 0.005 was considered statistically significant. RESULTS Immediately post-intervention, the women in the experimental group had a significantly higher reduce pregnancy-related anxiety (p < 0.05). Especially in the mandala group within according to control group were found to have significantly reduced anxiety the application (PrAS-1 82,50 ± 2,47 vs. 84,41 ± 4,12; PrAS-2 77,92 ± 2,16 vs. 83,89 ± 3,80; PrAS-3 72,05 ± 3,97 vs. 84,10 ± 4,35; PrAS-Total 77,49 ± 5,21 vs. 84,13 ± 4,07; STAI-1 52,39 ± 2,50 vs. 51,17 ± 1,16; STAI-2 49,73 ± 0,75 vs. 49,05 ± 1,27; STAI-3 48,84 ± 3,17 vs. 49,02 ± 1,22; STAI-Total 50,32 ± 2,8 vs. 49,75 ± 1,58). CONCLUSIONS Mandala coloring is effective in reducing pregnancy-related anxiety. CLINICAL TRIAL NUMBER (NCT05534867).

Abstract
OBJECTIVE To assess the efficacy of virtual reality (VR) in reducing pain and anxiety associated with scheduled blood draws. MATERIAL AND METHODS We conducted multicentre randomized clinical trial in both primary care and hospital settings. The study included children aged 7-12 years undergoing blood extraction procedures between March and October 2022. The intervention group used headsets, and the control group received usual care. Pain was assessed using the visual analogue scale and anxiety using the Groningen Distress Scale. The anxiety of the nursing staff and family satisfaction were assessed with numerical scales ranging from 1 to 10. RESULTS The study included 83 patients: 40 in the control group and 43 in the VR group. The median age was 10 years (range, 7-12 years). In the VR group, 83.7% of the children reported mild pain, compared to 57.5% in the control group (P = .012). Also, 93% of children in the VR group showed calm or mild anxiety (score, 1-2), compared to 72% of the control group, a difference that was not statistically significant (P = .08). Family satisfaction was higher in the RV group (score ≥ 9/10: 93% of RV group vs 72.5% of control group; P = .026). The nursing staff anxiety score was less than 5 in more than 90% of cases, with no differences between groups (P = .13). CONCLUSION The use of VR during venepuncture decreases the pain perceived by children and increases the satisfaction of their families.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Few online interventions targeting anxiety and depression in university students are designed for universal delivery, and none for group-level delivery. This randomized controlled trial (NCT No. 04361045) examined the effectiveness of such a prevention program. METHOD StriveWeekly is a web-based intervention designed with weekly self-guided skill modules (e.g., behavioral activation) that are synchronously delivered to all users. Student participants (n = 1,607) were recruited from one large public university, and 65.4% had no prior mental health service use. Participants were randomly assigned to 8 weeks of StriveWeekly (n = 804) or a waitlist condition (n = 803). Participants completed web-based surveys at baseline, posttest, and 3-month follow-up. The primary outcome was the self-reported Depression Anxiety and Stress Scale-21. RESULTS Piecewise linear mixed-effect models found significant group by time interactions for depression (t = -3.05, p = .002), anxiety (t = -3.01, p = .003), and total symptoms (t = -3.34, p < .001). Relative to the waitlist, students assigned to StriveWeekly improved more from baseline to posttest (between-group d = 0.18-0.21). These small effects were maintained through follow-up, and subsequently replicated by the original waitlist. The intervention was initiated by 73.0% of students in the StriveWeekly condition (modules completed: M = 3.72), and 71.6% of all posttest respondents rated the intervention highly. CONCLUSION Findings supported StriveWeekly's effectiveness for large scale indicated prevention of anxiety and depression symptoms in university students. However, further development and research are still needed, as not all students used the intervention, reported satisfaction, or experienced improvement. Abstract
AIM The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of a virtual mindfulness meditation intervention on stress and anxiety levels of 145 nursing students. BACKGROUND Because of the twin demands of classroom and clinical workloads, nursing students experience greater amounts of stress and anxiety than the average college student. Mindfulness meditation is a promising method to alleviate stress and anxiety. METHOD A pretest-posttest randomized controlled design was used. Participants received either weekly mindfulness meditation recordings or recordings on nursing information. Participants completed the Perceived Stress Scale and the Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 Scale. RESULTS A two-way mixed analysis of variance and follow-up simple main effects tests revealed that participants in the experimental group, who received meditation recordings, experienced significantly lower levels of stress and anxiety on posttest surveys than the control group. CONCLUSION Mindfulness meditation can reduce stress and anxiety levels in nursing students. This can improve students' overall mental and physical well-being.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This study aimed to determine the postoperative effects of music therapy on negative emotions, pain, and inflammatory and physiological parameters in patients undergoing colonoscopic polypectomy. METHODS Patients who underwent colonoscopic polypectomy in Funan County People's Hospital between March 2020 and June 2023 were selected as the research subjects. Patients were divided into exposure (underwent music therapy) and control (did not undergo music therapy) groups. Baseline characteristics, Self-rating Anxiety Scale (SAS) and Visual Analog Scale (VAS) scores, physiological parameters [systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP), and heart rate (HR)], and inflammatory marker levels [neutrophil/lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet/lymphocyte ratio (PLR), and erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR)] of patients before and after exposure to music were determined. The propensity score matching (PSM) method (1:1) was used to balance the baseline characteristics of the two groups. RESULTS After PSM, the exposure group comprised 50 cases and the control group comprised 50 cases. The baseline characteristics were not significantly different between the two groups (P > 0.05). The postoperative SAS score of the exposure group was significantly lower than that of the control group (P < 0.05). Meanwhile, the postoperative VAS score of the exposure group was nonsignificantly lower than that of the control group (P > 0.05). Furthermore, the postoperative SBP, DBP, and HR levels of the exposure group were significantly lower than that of the control group (P < 0.05). The postoperative levels of NLR, PLR, and ESR were not significantly different between the exposure and control groups (P > 0.05). CONCLUSION Music therapy exerts beneficial effects on the postoperative psychological and physiological parameters of patients undergoing colonoscopic polypectomy.

Abstract
Epidemiological surveys have shown a strong relationship between maternal stress and offspring's mood disorders. Growing evidence suggested that environmental enrichment (EE) improves cognitive function in models of psychiatric and neurological disorders. However, the potential protective effects of gestational EE on social stress-elicited mood disorders in offspring have not been studied. Knowing that the undeveloped brain is more sensitive to gestational environmental stimuli, we hypothesized that initiating cognitive stimulation, during gestation, would protect against social stress-induced behavioral alterations in adulthood. Therefore, the present study aimed to investigate the effects of gestational EE on social stress-elicited anxiety- and ethanol-related behaviors in adult offspring. EE consisted of free access, of dams, to tubular devices of different shapes, colors, and sizes that were changed regularly. After birth and weaning, young adult offspring were exposed to 19 days of social stress and anxiety-like behavior was evaluated by elevated plus maze, open field, and marbles burying tests. The two-bottle choice (TBC) drinking paradigm was used to assess stress-induced ethanol intake. Results showed that gestational EE prevented social stress-elicited anxiogenic-like effects with no differences in spontaneous locomotor activity. Moreover, in the TBC paradigm, mice pre-exposed to EE consistently showed a significantly decreased consumption and preference for ethanol with no effects on tastants' intakes. Interestingly, gestational EE increased serum BDNF levels, which showed a correlation with measures of anxiety- and ethanol-related behaviors. These findings indicate that some neurodevelopmental changes associated with prenatal EE may counteract adult social stress-induced behavioral alterations through a BDNF mechanism. Therefore, we propose that gestational EE has significant protective and beneficial effects on social stress-induced cognitive impairment. It can also alleviate anxiety-like behavior and subsequent excessive alcohol consumption.

Abstract
This project explored the relationship between virtual animal-related engagement (ARE) and anxiety in nurse leaders. A quality improvement project used a valid and reliable visual analog scale from 0 to 100 for self-reporting of anxiety in nurse leaders. Baseline and intervention group data were collected for 2 weeks at 15 and 5 minutes before the daily leadership huddle. Differences in anxiety levels 5 minutes before the huddle for baseline with the use of the intervention were significant. Within the intervention group, anxiety levels at 15 and 5 minutes were significant. Project outcomes suggest a difference in self-reported anxiety of nurse leaders based on ARE.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE This longitudinal study aimed to investigate the effects of Qigong on the anxiety state, heart rate variability (HRV), and breathing of anxious college students. METHODS A total of 37 individuals (18-25 years old) were randomly allocated to the control (n = 19) and intervention (n = 18) groups. Qigong interventions were conducted five times weekly for 12 weeks, with each session lasting 60 min. Hamilton Anxiety Scale, Fatigue Scale 14, Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, and 36-item Short Form Survey, HRV, and respiration data were collected before and after the 3-month intervention. RESULTS Individuals who participated in the three-month Qigong exercise intervention showed a significant reduction in anxiety, particularly mental anxiety (p < 0.05). Subjects in the intervention group presented a decrease in skin temperature (p < 0.05) and an increase in blood volume pulsation (p < 0.05). Meanwhile, HRV exhibited a significant increase in the standard deviation of interbeat interval before and after comparisons (p < 0.05) and between the two groups (p = 0.039) and a reduction in the normalized low-frequency power after the intervention. Moreover, the intervention group experienced increased abdominal breathing depth and abdominal breathing per minute (p < 0.05). CONCLUSION These findings indicate that Qigong is an effective mind-body exercise strategy for relieving anxiety. HRV and breathing were improved accordingly among college students after the completion of the 3-month Qigong program.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Parents of preterm infants are often thrown unexpectedly into the care of their vulnerable infant, causing them to be stressed and overwhelmed. Social support has been previously highlighted as a crucial factor in helping parents cope with stress. Several psychosocial interventions have thus been developed to support parents of preterm babies, which warrant further investigations. OBJECTIVES To evaluate the effectiveness of psychosocial interventions in reducing stress (primary outcome), anxiety, depression, pediatric medical traumatic stress (PMTS) and increasing social support among parents with preterm infants. METHODS A systematic-review and meta-analysis were conducted. Eight electronic databases were searched for relevant studies from their respective inception dates till September 2023. Meta-analysis was performed with RevMan, using the random-effects model. Heterogeneity was investigated using Cochran Q and I2 tests, and publication bias was assessed using funnel plots. Subgroup analyses were conducted for follow-up measurement, gender of parent, type of intervention provider, and setting. FINDINGS Eighteen studies were included in this review, and all studies were meta-analysed. Participants who received psychosocial interventions reported significantly lower stress and depression in comparison to control group participants. Psychosocial interventions delivered by psychologists and trained researchers were more effective compared to the nurses. The GRADE assessment indicated that the certainty of evidence for all outcomes were very low. CONCLUSION Psychosocial interventions effectively reduce stress and depression levels in parents with preterm infants. Our findings encourage the implementation of psychosocial interventions to improve parental psychological wellbeing. Future higher quality trials are needed to measure psychological outcomes among parents, especially fathers.

Abstract
Circumcision is a common pediatric operation, and distraction technique can be used as an adjunct analgesic method during the perioperative period. The study aims to explore the effect of distraction techniques on reducing pain, fear, and anxiety in children undergoing circumcision. The PubMed, ClinicalTrials.gov, and Embase databases were searched for articles published from January 1, 2000, to December 31, 2023. Only randomized controlled trials (RCTs) were included. Meta-analysis and forest plots were carried out using Review Manager 5.4.1 software, and outcomes were reviewed by two authors independently. We used the Risk of Bias assessment form (ROB2) developed by the Cochrane Collaboration to assess the quality of included studies. PRISMA 2020 guidelines were used in this article to achieve the quantitative and qualitative synthesis of data. A total of seven RCTs were included. The intervention group consisted of 417 patients, while the control group had 245 patients. The meta-analysis and sensitivity analysis results showed that the distraction technique could significantly relieve pain (MD -1.3, 95% confidence interval [CI]: [-1.61 to -0.99], p < .00001), fear (SMD -1.04, 95%CI -1.68 to -0.4, p = .001), and anxiety (SMD -1.07, 95%CI [-1.64 to -0.51], p = .0002). Similarly, therapeutic play significant could significantly relieve fear (MD -0.4, 95%CI [-0.71 to -0.1], p = .01) and anxiety (SMD -1.31, 95%CI [-2.59 to -0.04], p = .04), virtual reality (VR) could significantly relieve anxiety (SMD -0.67, 95%CI [-0.98 to -0.37], p < .0001). Distraction techniques can alleviate perioperative pain, fear, and anxiety in children undergoing circumcision.

Abstract
The objective of this paper is to report on the effectiveness of a mental health addition to a national nurse-delivered home visiting program. The methods are as follows: analysis of pre/post-launch of the standard Mental Health Intervention and comparison of 356 teams randomized to standard versus enhanced implementation. Stepwise regression controlled for significant client characteristics that were related to relevant outcomes. These characteristics were used in generalized mixed effect models comparing pre/post implementation and intervention and control groups. Pre/post analysis showed that only clients with no elevated mental health screening scores or mental health diagnoses at enrollment showed a significant decrease in depressive symptoms. Clients enrolled with and without mental health needs at enrollment significantly decreased on anxiety scores while referrals to mental health care increased. Teams receiving enhanced implementation enrolled more clients with mental health needs and clients completed more well-child visits and use of safe sleep practices. By integrating mental health care into maternal, infant, and early childhood home visiting programs, a new equitable model of primary mental health care can reach populations in need. This example provides a new paradigm of accessible and equitable mental health care for the future that can be implemented in a variety of home visiting programs.

Abstract
Providing education in medical procedures may ensure patients' compliance, reduce anxiety, and increase satisfaction. This randomized controlled research study was conducted to determine the effect of video-assisted education on anxiety and satisfaction given before an endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography procedure. A total of 70 patients participated between September 2017 and December 2018. Data were collected with the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory and the Visual Analogue Scale. Routine education was given to the control group, while routine education and video-assisted education were given to the intervention group. There was no difference between the state anxiety scores of the groups before the procedure ( p > .05). The state anxiety level of the intervention group was lower than that of the control group after the procedure ( p < .05). There was no significant difference between the trait anxiety scores of groups before and after the procedure ( p > .05). The postprocedure trait anxiety mean score of the intervention group decreased statistically significantly compared with the preprocedure mean score ( p < .05). The mean satisfaction score after the procedure was higher in the intervention group than in the control group ( p < .05). It was determined that video-assisted education decreased state and trait anxiety and increased satisfaction after the procedure.

Abstract
Current pharmacological treatments against post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) lack adequate efficacy. As a result, intense research has focused on identifying other molecular pathways mediating the pathogenesis of this condition. One such pathway is neuroinflammation, which has demonstrated a role in PTSD pathogenesis by causing synaptic dysfunction, neuronal death, and functional impairment in the hippocampus. Phosphodiesterase (PDE) inhibitors (PDEIs) have emerged as promising therapeutic agents against neuroinflammation in other neurological conditions. Furthermore, PDEIs have shown some promise in animal models of PTSD. However, the current model of PTSD pathogenesis, which is based on dysregulated fear learning, implies that PDE inhibition in neurons should enhance the acquisition of fear memory from the traumatic event. As a result, we hypothesized that PDEIs may improve PTSD symptoms through inhibiting neuroinflammation rather than long-term potentiation-related mechanisms. To this end, we tested the therapeutic efficacy of cilostazol, a selective inhibitor of PDE3, on PTSD-related anxiety symptoms in the underwater trauma model of PTSD. PDE3 is expressed much more richly in microglia and astrocytes compared to neurons in the murine brain. Furthermore, we used hippocampal indolamine 2,3-dioxygenase 1 (IDO) expression and interleukin 1 beta (IL-1β) concentration as indicators of neuroinflammation. We observed that cilostazol pretreatment prevented the development of anxiety symptoms and the increase in hippocampal IDO and IL-1β following PTSD induction. As a result, PDE3 inhibition ameliorated the neuroinflammatory processes involved in the development of PTSD symptoms. Therefore, cilostazol and other PDEIs may be promising candidates for further investigation as pharmacological therapies against PTSD.

Abstract
Transition to long-term care can be a challenging period for older adults, with high risk for negative outcomes, including depression, anxiety, and fear. However, music therapy has the potential to enhance related protective factors because it emphasizes individual strengths by leveraging culture-specific resources, facilitates relationships and a sense of belonging through joint music-making, and provides opportunities to process and make sense of one's experiences in the "new normal" through sharing of music-related emotions. The purpose of this study was to explore the perspectives of older adult long-term care residents, their care team staff, and their music therapists to develop a conceptual framework for the role of music therapy in older adults' transition and adjustment to long-term care. A grounded theory approach was used to conceptualize this process. Interviews with 17 participants were transcribed and analyzed using open, axial, and selective coding. The resulting theoretical model describes a progression of qualities and benefits of music therapy that leads to residents "feeling their best self." Related categories include: Music therapy is accessible and engaging; Music therapy is personal and meaningful; Music therapy acts as a bridge to other resources; Music therapy facilitates transformation; and Music therapy facilitates community integration. This initial theoretical model provides a foundation for clinical assessment and interventions. Future research is needed for continued testing and refining this theory.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Adolescent depression has been shown to be associated with many devastating psychosocial outcomes. However, there are many barriers that may prevent depressed individuals from receiving specialised treatment. Virtual reality (VR) technology has shown promise as one avenue for overcoming these challenges. This study first aims to evaluate the effectiveness of VR intervention on adolescent depression symptoms, and second, to determine the intervention's underlying mechanism of effect using functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS). METHODS AND ANALYSIS This is a single-centre, prospective, randomised controlled clinical trial. Sixty-six eligible adolescents aged 12-18 years with a diagnosis of depression will be randomised in a 1:1 ratio to either the VR treatment group or the conventional treatment group. All patients for both groups will receive usual treatment during a 4-week intervention period. In addition, patients randomised to VR treatment group (n=33) will complete three 20 min VR sessions including attention, executive function and relaxation training per week. Moreover, 33 healthy adolescents will be recruited as the general population. Primary outcome (ie, depressive symptoms) and secondary outcomes (ie, anxiety symptoms, executive function, treatment emergent symptoms, haemoglobin changes measured by fNIRS) will be collected at preintervention, immediately postintervention and at 4 weeks follow-up. The data assessor and analyst will be blinded to group membership. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION Ethical approval has been obtained from the Ethics Committee of Lishui Second People's Hospital. Written informed consent will be obtained for all participants. Results will be disseminated through peer-reviewed journals, national or international conference presentations, media outlets, the internet and various community activities. Abstract
AIMS Depression and anxiety are the leading contributors to the global burden of disease among young people, accounting for over a third (34.8%) of years lived with disability. Yet there is limited evidence for interventions that prevent adolescent depression and anxiety in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), where 90% of adolescents live. This article introduces the 'Improving Adolescent mentaL health by reducing the Impact of poVErty (ALIVE)' study, its conceptual framework, objectives, methods and expected outcomes. The aim of the ALIVE study is to develop and pilot-test an intervention that combines poverty reduction with strengthening self-regulation to prevent depression and anxiety among adolescents living in urban poverty in Colombia, Nepal and South Africa. METHODS This aim will be achieved by addressing four objectives: (1) develop a conceptual framework that identifies the causal mechanisms linking poverty, self-regulation and depression and anxiety; (2) develop a multi-component selective prevention intervention targeting self-regulation and poverty among adolescents at high risk of developing depression or anxiety; (3) adapt and validate instruments to measure incidence of depression and anxiety, mediators and implementation parameters of the prevention intervention; and (4) undertake a four-arm pilot cluster randomised controlled trial to assess the feasibility, acceptability and cost of the selective prevention intervention in the three study sites. RESULTS The contributions of this study include the active engagement and participation of adolescents in the research process; a focus on the causal mechanisms of the intervention; building an evidence base for prevention interventions in LMICs; and the use of an interdisciplinary approach. CONCLUSIONS By developing and evaluating an intervention that addresses multidimensional poverty and self-regulation, ALIVE can make contributions to evidence on the integration of mental health into broader development policy and practice.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Preoperative anxiety is a frequent problem that can lead to complications both during anaesthesia and in the postoperative period, especially in oncology. Studies have shown that it can be managed using non-pharmacological approaches, but few works have evaluated psychoeducational programmes. The aim of the COHErence Cardiaque (COHEC) II Study is to evaluate the combination of medical hypnosis (MH) and cardiac coherence (CC) training to manage preoperative anxiety in patients with cancer. METHODS AND ANALYSIS COHEC II is an ongoing multicentre randomised clinical trial carried out in three French comprehensive cancer centres. In total, 296 patients who will undergo surgery for cancer will be recruited during 18 months and will be randomised in the control arm or the intervention arm. Patients in the intervention arm will follow a daily programme that combines MH and CC, starting 7 days before surgery. The control arm will receive the standard treatment to manage preoperative anxiety. The primary endpoint is the anxiety level on surgery day, measured using a Visual Analogue Scale. Secondary endpoints are patient adherence to the programme, satisfaction and postsurgery recovery quality. ETHICS AND DISSEMINATION The study protocol was approved by the French Ethics Committee (Comité de Protection des Personnes EST-II) on 24 November 2021 and will be carried out following the good practice guidelines and the Declaration of Helsinki. Results will be published in peer-reviewed journals and presented at conferences. TRIAL REGISTRATION NUMBER NCT05197972.

Abstract
AIMS Modern clinical management of patients with an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) largely consists of remote device monitoring, although a subset is at risk of mental health issues post-implantation. We compared a 12-month web-based intervention consisting of goal setting, monitoring of patients' mental health-with a psychological intervention if needed-psychoeducational support from a nurse, and an online patient forum, with usual care on participants' device acceptance 12 months after implantation. METHODS AND RESULTS This national, multi-site, two-arm, non-blinded, randomized, controlled, superiority trial enrolled 478 first-time ICD recipients from all 6 implantation centres in Denmark. The primary endpoint was patient device acceptance measured by the Florida Patient Acceptance Survey (FPAS; general score range = 0-100, with higher scores indicating higher device acceptance) 12 months after implantation. Secondary endpoints included symptoms of depression and anxiety. The primary endpoint of device acceptance was not different between groups at 12 months [B = -2.67, 95% confidence interval (CI) (-5.62, 0.29), P = 0.08]. Furthermore, the secondary endpoint analyses showed no significant treatment effect on either depressive [B = -0.49, 95% CI (-1.19; 0.21), P = 0.17] or anxiety symptoms [B = -0.39, 95% CI (-0.96; 0.18), P = 0.18]. CONCLUSION The web-based intervention as supplement to usual care did not improve patient device acceptance nor symptoms of anxiety and depression compared with usual care. This specific web-based intervention thus cannot be recommended as a standardized intervention in ICD patients.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Recent research has shown that dancing takes effect directly in improving mental health, by reducing rates of depression, anxiety, and enhancing the mood aspects in people of any age. AIM This systematic review aimed to search for evidence of the effects of dance interventions on adults' mental health. METHODS The eligibility criteria of the studies were defined by following the PICOS strategy, considering the population, intervention, comparison, result, and the study design. Only randomized clinical trials, conducted in adults of both sexes, with results related to mental health, including depression and/or anxiety and/or stress and/or mood disorder were considered eligible for this review. The search was conducted using 5 databases: PubMed, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, Scopus, and ScienceDirect from 2005 to 2020. The Cochrane Collaboration tool was used to assess the risk of bias in randomized clinical trials. The synthesis and presentation of results followed the guidelines of the PRISMA model. RESULTS Of 425 selected studies, 10 randomized clinical trials were included in the review with a total of 933 participants between 18 and 62 years old. Studies included Dance Movement Therapy, Latin dance, tango, rumba, waltz, Nogma, quadrille, and Biodanza. The results indicate that regardless of style, adults who participated in dance interventions showed a reduction in symptoms of depression, anxiety, and stress compared to groups that did not participate in any type of intervention. DISCUSSION In general, studies showed an unclear risk of bias in most items assessed. Based on these studies, it is possible to assume that the practice of dance contributes positively to the maintenance or improvement of mental health in adults.
