[On method of impact test for composite resins (author's transl)]

Method of impact test for composite resins was investigated according to JIS K 7110, "Method of Izod impact test for rigid plastics". The following views were suggested from the results of the experiments. 1) For the heterogeneous paste-type materials such as composite resins, the test specimens should be prepared with a metal mold that can add the V-notch to a test piece on polymerization process, rather than mechanically done with frise cutter. 2) On the testing according to JIS K 7110, sample could not be saved in large amount against our expectation. Therefore, it may be necessary to develop the testing machine that has a smaller capacity.

Marginal accumulation of 99Tc-methylene diphosphonate in liver metastasis, from stomach carcinoma

Accumulation of 99mTc-methylene diphosphonate was observed in liver metastasis resulting from stomach carcinoma. This accumulation was located around the lesion on an emission-computed tomogram. This has not been previously reported.

A scanning electron microscopic study of the guinea pig cochlear aqueduct. With emphasis on fracture preparation

The cochlear aqueduct is the duct that connects the perilymphatic space of the scala tympani with the subarachnoid space. However, its functions are not yet fully elucidated. In the present study on the cochlear aqueduct of the guinea pig, a fracture preparation method was used to obtain new findings by scanning electron microscopy.

Behavioural effects in rats following repeated exposure to methyl bromide

Rats were exposed to methyl bromide (MB) at concentrations of 200 ppm and 300 ppm, 4 h per day, 5 times weekly, for 3 weeks. After the final exposure, behavioural tests for emotional response equilibrium function, the function of the peripheral nerve and the circadian rhythm of spontaneous activity were performed. Relatively prolonged dysfunction of the peripheral nerve as well as disturbance of the circadian rhythm of spontaneous activity were observed.

Prostaglandin analogues possessing antinidatory effects. 1. Modification of the omega chain

Novel prostaglandin analogues modified in the omega chain were prepared by the reaction of the vinyl aldehydes 1a--e with a variety of organometallic reagents as a key step of the syntheses. Compared with the natural prostaglandin F2 alpha in antinidatory effect, the analogues 4, 7, and 10 were 40 times more potent and the analogue 11 was 50--100 times more potent in the rat.

Tonsillectomy and autoantibodies in patients with habitual tonsillitis

Tonsillectomy is virtually a routine operation now for ENT surgeons, but its immunological evaluation is still obscure. We have carried out an investigation in 57 patients who visited our clinic, with reference to autoantibodies by the immunofluorescence technique. We found autoantibodies at a higher frequency after tonsillectomy than before tonsillectomy in the young age group. There are studies that report close correlation of autoantibodies and malignancy. Since there are few reports that mention the relationship of the presence of autoantibodies and tonsillectomy, we have emphasized here careful follow-up of the patients from this standpoint.

Endothelial damage in microvascular anastomosis: to splint or not to splint?

When performing a microvascular anastomosis, some surgeons use a splint and others do not. We compared the difference in intravascular reactions observed in the carotid artery of the rat anastomosed with these two techniques by observation with a scanning electron microscope. Thrombus formation was more prominent in the artery anastomosed using a splint. The difference was most remarkable 20 minutes after anastomosis. With time, the difference became less remarkable and was no longer present by seven days. By fourteen days, the anastomotic site was covered with neoendothelium. It is concluded that there is little difference in the final outcome achieved by the two methods.

Effects of chlorella alkali extract on blood pressure in SHR

When chlorella was treated with alkali after decolorization by methyl alcohol and then fractionated by gel filtration, the fraction showed a depressive effect. The blood pressure of SHRSP and SHR showed a fall of an average of 63 mmHG 1 hour after intravenous administration, 47 MMHg 2 hours after intraperitoneal administration. The blood pressure of normotensive Wistar rats also showed a fall of an average of 32 mmHg 1 hour after intravenous administration.

Densitometric studies on the shadows of paranasal sinuses in sagittal projection

In taking a X-ray photography of the head in sagittal projection, it is most important that the center of the X-ray beam passes exactly through the median-sagittal line. If the subject turns his head either to the right or to the left, the paranasal sinuses become denser on one side, leading to erroneous interpretation of the radiographic findings. In order to eliminate such a misinterpretations, studies were carried out on the following: 1) Application of a standard of what degree of head turning to either side would start to influence judgment of the shadow of the paranasal sinuses. 2. Application of a standard to judge whether they are projected to an exact center position or not in actually diagnosing the X-ray films.
