Abstract
The solar grating spectrometer is an important tool to study the thermodynamic properties of the solar atmosphere with different height distribution, but its imaging performance will be degraded by the wavefront aberration. On the other hand, narrow slit of the grating spectrometer will filter the wavefront aberration to a certain extent. In this paper, the mathematical relation between the wavefront aberration and the imaging performance of the grating spectrometer is derived. The numerical simulation is performed and is validated by the experiment. The results demonstrate that: The influence of the wavefront aberration with the different types and magnitudes on the spectral resolution and the energy utilization is different. The influence of the different slits on the wavefront aberrations is different. Generally, the smaller the slit is, the better the spectral resolution is. However, this is not true for the low-frequency dominated aberration, e.g. the defocus, since its low frequency will also be blocked by the narrow slit. If the influence of the filter slit on the wavefront aberration cannot be taken into account, it will lead to adaptive optics over-compensation.

Abstract
Transcription factors (TFs) are crucial modulators of gene expression during the development and progression of gastric carcinoma. Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) is one of the most significant risk factors of gastric carcinoma, and it is widely known that chronic inflammation with H. pylori infection triggers gastric carcinogenesis through inflammation-carcinoma chain [gastric carcinogenesis stages: non-atrophic gastritis, chronic atrophic gastritis, intestinal metaplasia, dysplasia and gastric carcinoma (GC)], but its mechanism regarding changed TFs remains unknown. In this study, we investigated the expressional profiles of 345 transcription factors in gastric mucosa of healthy volunteers and patients at different gastric carcinogenesis stages using protein/DNA array-based approach. The data demonstrated the up-regulated TFs such as GATA-3, AP4, c-Myc and Pbx1 in the gastric mucosa of GC patients compared with the healthy volunteers, while other TFs, particularly CCAAT and CACC, showed the consistently decreasing trend along the gastric carcinogenesis. The increased expressions of AP4, Pbx1 and C/EBPα were further validated by quantitative real-time PCR and Western blot in various H. pylori-infected models such as clinical gastric tissues, gastric epithelial cell lines and Mongolian gerbils. This study provides insights into and potential laws for gene transcriptional regulation by identifying potential TFs targets against the development of H. pylori-associated gastric carcinoma.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The role of the cytokine, macrophage migration inhibition factor (MIF) was assessed in tuberculosis. This case-control study investigated whether commonly occurring functional MIF polymorphisms are associated with active tuberculosis as well as with serum levels of MIF, IFN-γ and TNF-α. METHODS Two MIF promoter polymorphisms, a functional -794 CATT5-8 microsatellite repeat (rs5844572) and a -173G/C single-nucleotide polymorphism (rs755622), were analysed by PCR and PCR-RFLP, respectively, in 47 patients and 50 healthy subjects. The mRNA level of MIF was performed by real-time PCR (RT-PCR), and MIF, IFN-γ and TNF-α serum levels were determined by ELISA. RESULTS A significant increase of MIF mRNA expression and MIF protein level were found in patients compared to healthy controls. Meanwhile, the increase of IFN-γ and TNF-α serum levels were confirmed. According to the profile of genetic model, a significant association was found of genotypes carrying the -794 CATT 7 or 8 and -173 C risk alleles with susceptibility to active tuberculosis and with a significant increase of MIF, IFN-γ and TNF-α. CONCLUSIONS These data suggested a distinct genetic and immunopathogenic basis for tuberculosis at the MIF locus. Serum MIF, IFN-γ and TNF-α profiles distinguish tuberculosis from the more inflammatory phenotype and may play a role in pathogenesis and as biomarkers of active tuberculosis.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES To assess off-treatment virological relapse rates and to determine the role of hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) quantification in predicting virological relapse after stopping entecavir (ETV) treatment in patients with hepatitis B e antigen (HBeAg)-positive chronic hepatitis B (CHB). METHODS One hundred and twelve CHB patients for whom ETV was stopped in accordance with the Asian Pacific Association for the Study of the Liver guidelines stopping rules were enrolled. Patient HBsAg and HBV DNA levels were monitored every 4-12 weeks during ETV treatment and after ETV cessation. Post-treatment virological relapse was defined as a serum HBV DNA level of >10 000 copies/ml after stopping ETV treatment. RESULTS The virological relapse rate at 52 weeks after stopping ETV was 48.2%. The post-treatment virological relapse rate was significantly higher in patients aged >50 years than in those aged <50 years (p < 0.001), and the virological relapse rate was significantly lower in patients with an HBsAg level <2.0 log10 IU /ml than in those with a level ≥ 2.0 log10 IU /ml at ETV cessation (p = 0.005). An HBsAg level of 2.5 log10 IU/ml at HBeAg seroconversion was the optimal cut-off value for predicting post-treatment virological relapse (p < 0.001). In those aged <50 years and with HBsAg ≤ 2.5 log10 IU/ml at HBeAg seroconversion, the relapse rate was only 5%. In patients with HBsAg ≤ 2.5 log10 IU/ml at HBeAg seroconversion, 52.4% achieved HBsAg levels ≤ 2.0 log10 IU/ml at ETV cessation, while in those with HBsAg >2.5 log10 IU/ml at HBeAg seroconversion, only 4.4% achieved this criterion. CONCLUSIONS HBsAg levels can help guide the timing of cessation of ETV treatment. HBsAg levels of 2.5 log10 IU/ml at HBeAg seroconversion may be a useful marker to predict virological relapse after the cessation of ETV treatment in HBeAg-positive CHB patients.

Abstract
Radiation pneumonitis (RP) is one of the most important dose-limiting toxicities in the radiotherapy of thoracic tumors, which reduces the rate of local tumor control and overall survival and severely affects the patients' quality of life. Single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) have recently attracted increasing attention as biomarkers for predicting the development of RP. SNPs in inflammation-related, DNA repair-related, stress response-related and angiogenesis-related genes were proved to be associated with RP, with different underlying mechanisms. Radiogenomics focuses on the differences in radiosensitivity caused by gene sequence variation, which may prove helpful in investigating the abovementioned associations. In this review, we aimed to investigate the associations between RP and SNPs reported in recent studies and highlight the main content and prospects of radiogenomics.

Abstract
UNLABELLED To assess the clinical efficacy and safety of Silibinin in preventing drug-induced liver injury (DILI) in the general population (high-risk patients with non-drug induced liver injury). METHOD A prospective, multi-center, randomized, open-label and controlled trial was conducted with 568 patients undergoing primary treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis. The study included 277 patients in experimental group and 291 patients in control group. The patients in the two group were treated with conventional 2HREZ (S)/4HR for tuberculosis (TB), and additional Silibinin capsules (oral administration of 70 mg/time, 3 times/day for 8 weeks in experimental group. Outcomes of liver function, interruption of anti-TB treatment and therapeutic results, as well as adverse reactions were observed and analyzed. RESULTS At 2, 4 and 8 weeks of treatment, the incidences of liver injury in experimental group were 3.97%, 1.44% and 2.17%, respectively; the incidences in control group were 4.12%, 4.12% and 2.41%, respectively. Statistical analysis showed that there was no difference in the incidence between the two groups at each treatment period (P>0.05). At 8 weeks, the numbers of patients diagnosed of DILI were 18 (7.22%) and 27 (9.28%) in experimental and control groups, respectively (P>0.05). 34.30% and 27.49% of the patients in experimental and control groups had transient abnormal liver function or symptoms, respectively; similar percentages (3.25% and 6.19%) of the patients in two groups have liver function injury and symptoms, and were suspended for anti-TB treatment (P>0.05). The incidence of anorexia and nausea symptoms was lower in experimental group than in control group, and the differences were significant at 4 and 8 weeks (P<0.05). 8 weeks after the treatment, 98.30% of the sputum smear culture were negative in experimental group, which was significantly higher (P<0.01) than that in control group (92.98%). CONCLUSION Preventive hepatoprotective therapy in the general population may reduce drug discontinuation rate, improve patient's compliance and outcomes of anti-TB treatment.

Abstract
Ecdysone receptor (EcR) and ultraspiracle (USP) form heterodimers to mediate ecdysteroid signaling during molting and metamorphosis. Various EcR/USP heterodimers have been reported. However, it is unclear what kind of EcR/USP combination is adopted by lepidopteran insects during the larval-pupal metamorphosis and whether the EcR/USP heterodimer varies among different tissues. To address these questions, two isoforms of each EcR and USP were cloned from the common cutworm, their messenger RNA expression patterns were examined by real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction in different tissues during the larval-pupal metamorphosis and in the midgut in response to hormonal induction. Furthermore, their subcellular localization and protein-protein interaction were explored by transient expression and far-western blotting, respectively. All the four genes were significantly up-regulated in prepuae and/or pupae. The expression profiles of EcRB1 and USP1 were nearly identical to each other in the epidermis, fat body and midgut, and a similar situation also applied to EcRA and USP2. The three genes responded to 20-hydroxyecdysone (20E) induction except for USP2, and USP1 could be up-regulated by both 20E and juvenile hormone. The four proteins mainly localized in the nucleus and the nuclear localization was promoted by 20E. The protein-protein interaction between each EcR and USP was found in vitro. These results suggest that two types of EcR/USP heterodimer (EcRA/USP2 and EcRB1/USP1) may exist simultaneously in the common cutworm, and the latter should play more important roles during the larval-pupal metamorphosis. In addition, the types of EcR/USP heterodimer do not vary in the tissues which undergo histolysis and regeneration during metamorphosis.

Abstract
AIM: To investigate T helper 17/regulatory T cell alterations in early severe hepatitis B and the effect of glucocorticoids.
METHODS: The study included 20 patients in the early stage of severe hepatitis B (SHB) and 11 healthy controls. All patients had elevated T helper 17 (Th17) levels, decreased regulatory T (Treg) cell levels, and significant Th17/Treg ratios.
RESULTS: After glucocorticoid treatment, 16 patients showed improvement with significant decreases in Th17 levels, increases in Treg, and rebalanced Th17/Treg ratios. The four patients who showed no improvement had increases in both Th17 and Treg levels and an even higher Th17/Treg ratio than before.
CONCLUSION: Glucocorticoid treatment can rectify Th17/Treg dysregulation in patients with SHB.

Abstract
AIM: To assess the role of cellular immunity in the development of chronic hepatitis B.
METHODS: Patients with chronic hepatitis B were collected. Alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and viral load were detected. CD3+, CD4+, CD8+, CD4+/CD8+ ratio, Th1, Th2, Th1/Th2 ratio, Tc1, Th17, Tc17, Th17/Tc17 ratio, regulatory T cells (Treg), and Th17/Treg ratio were detected by flow cytometry (FCM). The correlations between the immune indicators and transaminase and viral load were evaluated.
RESULTS: Th17 percentage and Th17/Treg ratio were significantly higher in chronic hepatitis B patients with low viral load than in those with normal/high viral load (5.81% vs 2.51%, 2.23%; 23.54 vs 19.42, 9.85). Th2 percentage, Tc1 percentage, and Th17/Tc17 ratio were significantly higher in chronic hepatitis B patients with normal liver function than in those with mild/severe liver damage (6.75% vs 3.09%, 3.58%; 70.43% vs 36.97%, 35.86%; 71.18 vs 11.35, 12.58). Tc17 percentage was significantly lower in chronic hepatitis B patients with severe liver dysfunction than in those with mild liver dysfunction (0.42% vs 1.69%).
CONCLUSION: Cellular immune status in patients with chronic hepatitis B has an impact on viral load and liver dysfunction level, in which Th17/Tc17 ratio may play an important role.

Abstract
Background Wing discs of B. mori are transformed to pupal wings during the larva-to-pupa metamorphosis with dramatic morphological and structural changes. To understand these changes at a transcriptional level, RNA-seq of the wing discs from 6-day-old fifth instar larvae (L5D6), prepupae (PP) and pupae (P0) was performed. Results In total, 12,254 transcripts were obtained from the wing disc, out of which 5,287 were identified to be differentially expressed from L5D6 to PP and from PP to P0. The results of comprehensive analysis of RNA-seq data showed that during larvae-to-pupae metamorphosis, many genes of 20E signaling pathway were up-regulated and those of JH signaling pathway were down-regulated. Seventeen transcription factors were significantly up-regulated. Cuticle protein genes (especially wing cuticle protein genes), were most abundant and significantly up-regulated at P0 stage. Genes responsible for the degradation and de novo synthesis of chitin were significantly up-regulated. There were A and B two types of chitin synthases in B. mori, whereas only chitin synthase A was up-regulated. Both trehalose and D-fructose, which are precursors of chitin synthesis, were detected in the hemolymph of L5D6, PP and P0, suggesting de novo synthesis of chitin. However, most of the genes that are related to early wing disc differentiation were down-regulated. Conclusions Extensive transcriptome and DGE profiling data of wing disc during metamorphosis of silkworm have been generated, which provided comprehensive gene expression information at the transcriptional level. These results implied that during the larva-to-pupa metamorphosis, pupal wing development and transition might be mainly controlled by 20E signaling in B. mori. The 17 up-regulated transcription factors might be involved in wing development. Chitin required for pupal wing development might be generated from both degradation of componential chitin and de novo synthesis. Chitin synthase A might be responsible for the chitin synthesis in the pupal wing, while both trehalose and D-fructose might contribute to the de novo synthesis of chitin during the formation of pupal wing. AIM: To observe the regulatory effect of hydrogen sulfide on β oxidation in fatty liver in rats.
METHODS: Eighteen male SD rats were randomly divided into a normal control group, a high-fat diet group and a high-fat diet + NaHS group. High-fat diet was ordinary diet supplemented with 2% cholesterol and 18% lard. The high-fat diet + NaHS group was given a high-fat diet and intraperitoneal injection of 400 mmol/L sodium hydrosulfide solution (5 mL/kg). Eight weeks after treatment, the animals were killed. The content of ketones and enoyl-CoA hydratase activity in liver homogenates were measured, and pathological changes in the liver were observed.
RESULTS: After 8 wk of treatment, fatty liver was successfully induced. Application of sodium hydrosulfide reduced fatty liver significantly. Intrahepatic triglyceride and cholesterol significantly increased in the high-fat diet group compared with the normal control group (3.87 mmol/L ± 2.63 mmol/L vs 1.18 mmol/L ± 0.85 mmol/L, 5.00 mmol/L ± 1.01 mmol/L vs 2.61 mmol/L ± 0.33 mmol/L), while treatment with sodium hydrosulfide significantly reduced hepatic lipid composition (2.28 mmol/L ± 0.51 mmol/L vs 3.87 ± 2.63 mmol/L, 4.50 mmol/L ± 1.25 mmol/L vs 5.00 mmol/L ± 1.01 mmol/L). Compared with the normal control group, hydrogen sulfide content in the high-fat diet group was significantly reduced (14.00 µmol/L ± 6.21 µmol/L vs 20.20 µmol/L ± 11.90 µmol/L); however, application of sodium hydrosulfide significantly increased hydrogen sulfide content (48.20 µmol/L ± 8.50 µmol/L vs 14.00 µmol/L ± 6.21 µmol/L). Compared with the control animals, the liver enoyl-CoA activity was significantly reduced in the high-fat diet group (25.0 µmol/min ± 7.7 µmol/min vs 12.6 µmol/min ± 3.1 µmol/min), by up to 50%, while sodium hydrosulfide significantly increased enoyl-CoA activity (19.9 µmol/min ± 6.0 µmol/min vs 12.6 µmol/min ± 3.1 µmol/min), by 60%. Hydrogen sulfide content was negatively correlated with TG and TC in the high-fat diet group (r = -0.621, -0.432, P = 0.01036, 0.04497), but positively correlated with enoyl-CoA hydratase activity (r = 0.513, P = 0.00833).
CONCLUSION: Hydrogen sulfide promotes β oxidation and reduces fat accumulation in fatty liver in rats.

Abstract
AIM To explore the mechanism of abnormal Connexin (Cx) 32 and Cx43 expression in the gastric mucosa after Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection. METHODS Biopsy specimens of gastric mucosa in different gastric carcinogenesis stages with H. pylori infection, that is, non-atrophic gastritis (NAG; n = 24), chronic atrophic gastritis (CAG; n = 25), intestinal metaplasia (IM; n = 28), dysplasia (DYS; n = 24), and gastric cancer (GC; n = 30), as well as specimens of normal gastric mucosa without H. pylori infection (NGM; n = 25), were confirmed by endoscopy and pathological examination. Cx32 and Cx43 mRNA expression was detected by real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Cx32 and Cx43 promoter CpG island methylation status was determined by methylation-specific PCR (MSP), bisulfite PCR sequencing (BSP) and MassArray methods. RESULTS The relative mRNA expression levels in the gastric mucosa of patients with NGM, NAG, CAG, IM, DYS and GC were 0.146 ± 0.011, 0.133 ± 0.026, 0.107 ± 0.035, 0.039 ± 0.032, 0.037 ± 0.01 and 0.03 ± 0.011 for Cx32; and 0.667 ± 0.057, 0.644 ± 0.051, 0.624 ± 0.049, 0.555 ± 0.067, 0.536 ± 0.058 and 0.245 ± 0.121 for Cx43, respectively, which were gradually decreasing and significantly different (GC vs NGM: P < 0.001 for Cx32, P < 0.001 for Cx43). The promoter methylation levels in the gastric mucosa from NGM to GC stages by MSP were 38.8% ± 9.0%, 43.1% ± 9.4%, 56.5% ± 3.1%, 64.4% ± 9.7%, 72.5% ± 4.2% and 79.6% ± 6.8% for Cx32; and 49.0% ± 3.9%, 58.1% ± 5.0%, 66.5% ± 7.9%, 74.0% ± 8.8%, 78.3% ± 3.6% and 88.7% ± 6.2% for Cx43, respectively, which were gradually increasing and significantly different (P = 0.039, P = 0.019). The promoter methylation levels by BSP and MassArray exhibited similar trends. Cx32 and Cx43 mRNA expression was negatively correlated with promoter methylation status and gastric carcinogenesis stages (P < 0.001, P = 0.016). CONCLUSION Cx32 and Cx43 mRNA expression decreased gradually during H. pylori infection-associated gastric carcinogenesis, and it is associated with hypermethylation of these genes' promoter.

Abstract
Insect midgut secretes a semi-permeable peritrophic membrane (PM), which plays important roles in protecting the midgut and helping with food digestion. The lepidopteran larvae produce type 1 PM, which is degraded when insects develop into the metamorphic stages. However, the underlying mechanism is unclear. In the present study, two peritrophin-like proteins (peritrophin-57 and 37) were identified from the midgut expression sequence tag library and transcriptome of the common cutworm, Spodoptera litura. The temporal and spatial expression patterns and responses to the induction of 20-hydroxyecdysone (20E) and starvation were examined by real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction according to their common sequence region. The chitin-binding activity was also studied using a competitor, calcofluor. The open reading frames are 1 554 and 1 020 bp, respectively. They shared four highly conserved peritrophin-A domains and were expressed only in the midgut rather than in the other tissues, including fat body, epidermis, Malpighian tube and hemolymph. Their transcriptional expression could only be detected at the larval stages rather than in eggs, prepupae, pupae and adults. The purified protein of peritrophin-37 bound to chitin in a dose-dependent manner. These results indicate that the two proteins are peritrophins, the structural components of PM. In addition, the messenger RNA levels of the two peritrophins were significantly down-regulated by 20E injection, whereas feeding/starvation had no effect on the expression. These findings suggest that the increase of 20E titer may be an important factor which controls the degradation of PM during metamorphosis.

Abstract
Novel C6-cyclo secondary amine substituted purine steroid-nucleoside analogues (2-9) were efficiently synthesized through displacement of the C6 chloro on the purine ring of series 1 with versatile cyclic secondary amines, including pyrrolidines, piperidine, morpholine, and piperazines. All the newly-synthesized compounds were evaluated for their anticancer activity in vitro against Hela, PC-3 and MCF-7 cell lines. Among them, compounds 5c and 6b exhibited significant cytotoxicity on PC-3 cell lines.

Abstract
Hypertrophy is a major predictor of progressive heart disease and has an adverse
prognosis. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) that accumulate during the course of cardiac
hypertrophy may participate in the process. However, the nature of any interaction
between a hypertrophy-specific signaling pathway and aberrant expression of miRNAs
remains unclear. In this study, Spague Dawley male rats were treated with transverse
aortic constriction (TAC) surgery to mimic pathological hypertrophy. Hearts were
isolated from TAC and sham operated rats (n=5 for each group at 5, 10, 15, and 20
days after surgery) for miRNA microarray assay. The miRNAs dysexpressed during
hypertrophy were further analyzed using a combination of bioinformatics algorithms in
order to predict possible targets. Increased expression of the target genes
identified in diverse signaling pathways was also analyzed. Two sets of miRNAs were
identified, showing different expression patterns during hypertrophy. Bioinformatics
analysis suggested the miRNAs may regulate multiple hypertrophy-specific signaling
pathways by targeting the member genes and the interaction of miRNA and mRNA might
form a network that leads to cardiac hypertrophy. In addition, the multifold changes
in several miRNAs suggested that upregulation of rno-miR-331*, rno-miR-3596b,
rno-miR-3557-5p and downregulation of rno-miR-10a, miR-221, miR-190, miR-451 could be
seen as biomarkers of prognosis in clinical therapy of heart failure. This study
described, for the first time, a potential mechanism of cardiac hypertrophy involving
multiple signaling pathways that control up- and downregulation of miRNAs. It
represents a first step in the systematic discovery of miRNA function in
cardiovascular hypertrophy.

All newly-synthesized compounds were evaluated for their anticancer activity in vitro against Hela, PC-3 and MCF-7 cell lines. Among them, compounds 8b and 9b exhibited significant cytotoxicity on PC-3 cell lines.

Abstract
Heat shock protein (Hsp) and its cognate protein (Hsc) play important roles in helping insects survive extreme temperatures. However, high level of Hsp expression usually brings negative physiological effects on organisms. The mechanism of this trade-off is unclear. In this study, a lepidopteran insect, the common cutworm Spodoptera litura, was stressed at different temperatures, and the impact on both thermotolerance and fecundity was examined. The mRNA levels of four Hsp/Hscs (Hsp90, Hsc90, Hsp70 and Hsc70) and two ecdysone receptors (EcRs, EcRA and EcRB1) in different stresses and during the larval-pupal metamorphosis were determined. The results revealed that the pre-acclamation at mild stress increased the thermotolerance but decreased the egg production in adults. During the stress process, the mRNA levels of all the Hsp/Hsc and ecdysone receptor genes were significantly up-regulated. The two Hsp/Hsc70s and EcRs revealed consistent expression profiles with each other during the larval-pupal metamorphosis. Co-immunoprecipitation and Western blotting analysis indicated that Hsp/Hsc70 interacted with EcRs. RNAi of Hsc70 decreased the mRNA levels of two 20E-induced genes such as E74B and E75. Hsp70 transferred from the cytoplasm to nucleus in response to cold stress. These data together suggest that Hsp/Hsc70 might be involved in the regulation of 20E signaling, and the protein-protein interaction between Hsp/Hsc70 and EcRs probably act as a bridge mediating the trade-off between high thermotolerance and physiological defects.

Abstract
Larval cuticle is degraded and replaced by the pupal counterpart during larval-pupal metamorphosis in the holometabolous insects. In addition to the extrinsic transformation, the epidermis goes through significant changes at molecular levels. To elucidate the intrinsic mechanism of epidermal metamorphosis, the dynamics of chitin content in the cuticle was examined in an important agricultural lepidopteran, the common cutworm, and the transcriptome was analyzed using Illumina sequencing technology. Gene expression profiles during the metamorphosis were further studied by both the digital gene expression (DGE) system and real-time quantitative PCR. The results showed that the chitin content decreased in prepupae and then increased in pupae. A total of 58 million sequencing reads were obtained and assembled into 70,346 unigenes. Over 9000 unigenes were identified to express differentially during the transformation process. As compared with the 6th instar feeding larvae, the most significant changes took place in the proteasome and metabolic pathways in prepupae and pupae, respectively. The cytochrome P450s, VHDLs, chitinase, serine protease and genes involved in sex pheromone biosynthesis changed their mRNA levels remarkably. Three chitinolytic enzymes (chitinase, β-N-acetylglucosaminidase and chitin deacetylase) showed distinct mRNA expression patterns, the former two enzymes revealed the highest expression in prepupae, however the latter one showed its climax mRNA level in pupae. The gene expression patterns suggest that chitinase and β-N-acetylglucosaminidase may be responsible for the degradation of larval cuticles, whereas chitin deacetylase may help to degrade the pupal counterparts. Gene expression dynamics also implied that the chitin of pupal cuticle might be formed by recycling of the degraded chitin of larval cuticle rather than through de novo synthesis. The 20E-induced nuclear receptors seem to be important factors regulating chitin metabolic enzymes during the cuticle remodeling. Our data provide a comprehensive resource for exploring the molecular mechanism of epidermal metamorphosis in insects.
