Abstract
With inconsistent findings, evidence has been obtained in recent years that metabolic disorders are closely associated with the development of lymphomas. Studies and multiple analyses have been published also indicating that some solid tumor survivors develop a secondary lymphoma, whereas some lymphoma survivors subsequently develop a second malignant neoplasm (SMN), particularly solid tumors. An interaction between the multiple etiologic factors such as genetic factors and late effects of cancer therapy may play an important role contributing to the carcinogenesis in patients with metabolic diseases or with a primary cancer. In this review, we summarize the current knowledge of the multiple etiologic factors for lymphomagenesis, focusing on the SMN in lymphoma, secondary lymphomas in primary cancers, and the lymphomas associated to metabolic disorders/diseases, which have been received less attention previously. Further, we also review the data of coexistence of lymphomas and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in patients with infection of hepatitis C virus and hepatitis B virus.

Abstract
CONTEXT Time-restricted eating (TRE), which restricts food intake to a limited duration of the day, is a key regimen of intermittent fasting. OBJECTIVE The aim of our study was to provide an up-to-date meta-analysis and systematic review to evaluate the efficacy of TRE on weight loss and other metabolic-related parameters in adults. METHODS We searched PubMed, EMBASE, and the Cochrane Library for relevant studies published before February 26, 2022. Study duration of TRE was at least 4 weeks. Body weight and other metabolic-related continuous parameters were described as weighted mean difference (WMD) with 95% CI. RESULTS Seventeen randomized controlled trials involving 899 participants were analyzed. The pooled meta-analysis has shown that TRE contributed to a significant decrease in body weight with a WMD of -1.60 kg (95% CI -2.27 to -0.93) and fat mass with WMD -1.48 kg (95% CI -1.59 to -1.38). Subgroup analysis showed that TRE could reduce body weight and fat mass especially in overweight participants with WMD -1.43 kg (95% CI -2.05 to -0.81) and -1.56 kg (95% CI -1.67 to -1.44), respectively. TRE also showed beneficial effects on the lipid spectrum in overweight participants, including decreased levels of triglyceride (WMD -12.71 mg/dL, 95% CI -24.9 to -0.52), total cholesterol (WMD -6.45 mg/dL, 95% CI -7.40 to -5.49), and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (WMD -7.0 mg/dL, 95% CI -9.74 to -4.25). However, compared with control, TRE had no significant effects on waist circumference, body mass index, glycosylated hemoglobin, or blood pressure. CONCLUSION This updated meta-analysis found that TRE may be an effective approach to improve the metabolic state of nonobese subjects, especially in overweight participants.

The Association of Serum L-Carnitine Concentrations with the Risk of Cancer in Chinese Adults with Hypertension. Nutrients 2022; 14:nu14234999. Abstract
BACKGROUND The effect of serum L-carnitine (LC) concentrations on cancer risk remains unclear. This study aims to explore the association between serum LC and the risk of incident cancer. METHODS This is a case-control study, including 574 patients with incident cancer and 574 controls matched in a 1:1 ratio by age, sex, and residence, nested within the China H-Type Hypertension Registry Study (CHHRS). Conditional logistic regression analysis was used to assess the association of serum LC and incident cancer risk. RESULTS When LC was assessed as quartiles, compared with patients with low LC (Q1), patients in the highest quartile (Q4) had a 33% (OR = 0.67, 95% CI: 0.46 to 0.99), 52% (OR = 0.48, 95% CI: 0.23 to 0.99), and 39% (OR = 0.61, 95% CI: 0.38 to 0.99) decreased risk of overall, digestive system, and non-digestive system cancer in the adjusted models, respectively. In subgroup analyses, an inverse association of LC with cancer risk was observed in individuals who were overweight (obese), who never drink, who never smoke, and who were female. In the mediation analysis, serum trimethylamine-N-oxide (TMAO) concentrations did not mediate the reversed association of LC with cancer risk. CONCLUSIONS This study showed that serum LC concentrations had a protective impact on overall, digestive system, and non-digestive system cancer risk.

Abstract
This review provides a detailed study of pancreatic cancer (PC) and the implication of different types of cancers concerning diabetes. The combination of anti-diabetic drugs with other anti-cancer drugs and phytochemicals can help prevent and treat this disease. PC cancer stem cells (CSCs) and how they migrate and develop into malignant tumors are discussed. A detailed explanation of the different mechanisms of diabetes development, which can enhance the pancreatic CSCs' proliferation by increasing the IGF factor levels, epigenetic modifications, DNA damage, and the influence of lifestyle factors like obesity, and inflammation, has been discussed. It also explains how cancer due to diabetes is associated with high mortality rates. One of the well-known diabetic drugs, metformin, can be combined with other anti-cancer drugs and prevent the development of PC and has been taken as one of the prime focus in this review. Overall, this paper provides insight into the relationship between diabetes and PC and the methods that can be employed to diagnose this disease at an earlier stage successfully.

Abstract
Clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) is the most frequent histological kidney cancer subtype. Over the last decade, significant progress has been made in identifying the genetic and metabolic alterations driving ccRCC development. In particular, an integrated approach using transcriptomics, metabolomics, and lipidomics has led to a better understanding of ccRCC as a metabolic disease. The metabolic profiling of this cancer could help define and predict its behavior in terms of aggressiveness, prognosis, and therapeutic responsiveness, and would be an innovative strategy for choosing the optimal therapy for a specific patient. This review article describes the current state-of-the-art in research on ccRCC metabolic pathways and potential therapeutic applications. In addition, the clinical implication of pharmacometabolomic intervention is analyzed, which represents a new field for novel stage-related and patient-tailored strategies according to the specific susceptibility to new classes of drugs.

Abstract
Obesity and breast cancer are two major health issues that could be categorized as sincere threats to human health. In the last few decades, the relationship between obesity and cancer has been well established and extensively investigated. There is strong evidence that overweight and obesity increase the risk of postmenopausal breast cancer, and adipokines are the central players in this relationship. Produced and secreted predominantly by white adipose tissue, adiponectin is a bioactive molecule that exhibits numerous protective effects and is considered the guardian angel of adipokine. In the obesity-cancer relationship, more and more evidence shows that adiponectin may prevent and protect individuals from developing breast cancer. Recently, several updates have been published on the implication of adiponectin in regulating tumor development, progression, and metastases. In this review, we provide an updated overview of the metabolic signaling linking adiponectin and breast cancer in all its stages. On the other hand, we critically summarize all the available promising candidates that may reactivate these pathways mainly by targeting adiponectin receptors. These molecules could be synthetic small molecules or plant-based proteins. Interestingly, the advances in genomics have made it possible to create peptide sequences that could specifically replace human adiponectin, activate its receptor, and mimic its function. Thus, the obvious anti-cancer activity of adiponectin on breast cancer should be better exploited, and adiponectin must be regarded as a serious biomarker that should be targeted in order to confront this threatening disease.

Abstract
The resistance of renal cell carcinoma (RCC) to sunitinib impedes the success of chemotherapy in cancer treatment. Although several sunitinib resistance mechanisms have been proposed, little is known concerning the impact of obesity and adipokines in RCC cells. The upregulation of sterol-regulatory element-binding protein-1 (SREBP-1) has been reported to modulate the progression of tumor cells. The present study investigated the effect of visfatin on sunitinib-induced cytotoxicity in RCC cells through SREBP-1 expression. We found that visfatin-induced Akt and p70S6K activation increased SREBP-1 expression in 786-O cells. The visfatin-induced SREBP-1 mRNA and protein levels were attenuated through the inactivation of Akt and p70S6K by pharmacological inhibitors. In addition, the SREBP-1 knockdown using siRNA enhanced the cytotoxic effects of sunitinib. Our results also revealed the roles of simvastatin in attenuating the effects of visfatin on 786-O cells by inhibiting the production of reactive oxygen species. In particular, simvastatin co-treatment increased the cell cytotoxicity of sunitinib in visfatin-treated 786-O cells, which were associated with down-regulation of SREBP-1 expression. Our results suggest an important role of SREBP-1 in visfatin-induced drug resistance of RCC cells to sunitinib. The cytotoxic mechanism of simvastatin on RCC cells may provide a new strategy to improve therapeutic outcomes for the RCC treatment.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Gallbladder stone diseases (GSD) is a main risk factor of gallbladder cancer (GBC). This study aimed to reveal their bridge to metabolic syndrome. MATERIAL/METHOD The clinical and experimental data of 2210 GBC patients, from 3524 Chinese patients, in our hospital from Jan. 2009 to Dec. 2020 were summarized. The metabolic syndrome indexes, influencing factors for both GBC and GSD, were analyzed by unconditional logistic regression in this case-control study. RESULT There were significantly higher morbidity of GBC in the overall, GSD and non-GSD with hypertriglyceridemia patients versus non-hypertriglyceridemia ones (P < 0.001, all). In GSD patients, univariate regression showed a significantly positive correlation between serum triglyceride (TG), low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-c), fasting insulin (FINS) levels, Homeostasis model assessment-insulin resistance (HOMA-IR), female being, body mass index, hypertriglyceridemia and hazard of GBC with GSD (P < 0.001, all), and a significantly negative correlation to systolic pressure (SBP), diastolic pressure (DBP), hypertension and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-c), fasting blood glucose (FBG) (P < 0.05, all); multivariate regression showed that serum triglyceride was the most significantly positive factor associated to GBC (P < 0.001, all) among the hazard factors including serum TG, LDL-c levels, HOMA-IR. In non-GSD ones, multivariate regression showed that HOMA-IR was the most significantly positive factor associated to GBC among the hazard factors including serum TG, LDL-c levels, HOMA-IR, female being, while DM had a significantly inversion negative association (P < 0.001). CONCLUSION We found initially that elevated serum TG levels could be the most remarkable independent predicting factor for GBC risk with GSD, while insulin resistance might act as the first one in non-GSD. More importantly, we advocated initially the sharp rise of serum TG levels as the potential of a candidate diagnostic or prognostic biomarker of GBC with GSD. Abstract
CONTEXT International variations in the rates of kidney cancer (KC) are considerable. An understanding of the risk factors for KC development is necessary to generate opportunities to reduce its incidence through prevention and surveillance. OBJECTIVE To retrieve and summarize global incidence and mortality rates of KC and risk factors associated with its development, and to describe known familial syndromes and genetic alterations that represent biologic risk factors. EVIDENCE ACQUISITION A systematic review was conducted via Medline (PubMed) and Scopus to include meta-analyses, reviews, and original studies regarding renal cell carcinoma, epidemiology, and risk factors. EVIDENCE SYNTHESIS Our narrative review provides a detailed analysis of KC incidence and mortality, with significant variations across time, geography, and sex. In particular, while KC incidence has continued to increase, mortality models have leveled off. Among the many risk factors, hypertension, obesity, and smoking are the most well established. The emergence of new genetic data coupled with observational data allows for integrated management and surveillance strategies for KC care. CONCLUSIONS KC incidence and mortality rates vary significantly by geography, sex, and age. Associations of the development of KC with modifiable and fixed risk factors such as obesity, hypertension, smoking, and chronic kidney disease (CKD)/end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) are well described. Recent advances in the genetic characterization of these cancers have led to a better understanding of the germline and somatic mutations that predispose patients to KC development, with potential for identification of therapeutic targets that may improve outcomes for these at-risk patients. PATIENT SUMMARY We reviewed evidence on the occurrence of kidney cancer (KC) around the world. Currently, the main avoidable causes are smoking, obesity, and high blood pressure. Although other risk factors also contribute, prevention and treatment of these three factors provide the best opportunities to reduce the risk of developing KC at present.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Cardiovascular disease is a leading cause of death in breast cancer survivors, but the underlying cause is not fully characterised. AIMS To determine whether insulin sensitivity, cardiovascular risk markers and body composition were perturbed in women treated with chemotherapy for early stage breast cancer and whether perturbations occurred before or after cancer treatment. METHODS Sixteen women with breast cancer and 17 control subjects were studied. Twelve breast cancer patients returned for a second visit following cancer treatment comprising chemotherapy (n = 2), or chemotherapy and radiotherapy (n = 10). The Matsuda index to estimate insulin sensitivity, fasting lipids, pulse wave velocity (PWV), reactive hyperaemia index (RHI) and body composition by dual energy X-ray absorptiometry were measured. RESULTS There were no significant differences in age (53 ± 9 vs 54 ± 11 years; P = 0.82) or body mass index (28 ± 7 vs 28 ± 6; P = 0.97) between patients with breast cancer and controls. Patients with breast cancer had higher triglycerides than controls (1.2 ± 0.1 vs 0.8 ± 0.1 mmol/L; P = 0.03), but there were no significant differences in the Matsuda index, PWV and RHI. Following cancer treatment, there was a lower Matsuda index (6.3 ± 1.2 vs 5.2 ± 1.0; P = 0.01), but this was not associated with a significant change in vascular function. Bone mass fell by 3% from 2.27 ± 0.11 to 2.20 ± 0.10 kg after cancer treatment (P = 0.03). CONCLUSIONS Patients with breast cancer had higher triglycerides before treatment and a reduction in insulin sensitivity and bone mass following cancer treatment. Future larger and longer-term studies should characterise the effect of reduced insulin sensitivity on rates of diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer outcomes and fracture. Abstract
Thyroid cancer is associated with genetic alterations, e.g. BRAFV600E , which may cause carcinomatous changes in hormone-secreting epithelial cells. Epidemiological studies have shown that overnutrition is related to the development and progression of cancer. In this study, we attempted to identify the cell nonautonomous factor responsible for the progression of BRAFV600E thyroid cancer under overnutrition conditions. We developed a mouse model for inducible thyrocyte-specific activation of BRAFV600E , which showed features similar to those of human papillary thyroid cancer. LSL-BrafV600E ;TgCreERT2 showed thyroid tumour development in the entire thyroid, and the tumour showed more abnormal cellular features with mitochondrial abnormalities in mice fed a high-fat diet (HFD). Transcriptomics revealed that adrenomedullin2 (Adm2) was increased in LSL-BrafV600E ;TgCreERT2 mice fed HFD. ADM2 was upregulated on the addition of a mitochondrial complex I inhibitor or palmitic acid with integrated stress response (ISR) in cancer cells. ADM2 stimulated protein kinase A and extracellular signal-regulated kinase in vitro. The knockdown of ADM2 suppressed the proliferation and migration of thyroid cancer cells. We searched The Cancer Genome Atlas and Genotype-Tissue Expression databases and found that increased ADM2 expression was associated with ISR and poor overall survival. Consistently, upregulated ADM2 expression in tumour cells and circulating ADM2 molecules were associated with aggressive clinicopathological parameters, including body mass index, in thyroid cancer patients. Collectively, we identified that ADM2 is released from cancer cells under mitochondrial stress resulting from overnutrition and acts as a secretory factor determining the progressive properties of thyroid cancer. © 2022 The Authors. Abstract
INTRODUCTION Several studies have focused on the relationship between obesity and differentiated thyroid carcinoma (DTC), particularly papillary histotype (PTC). However, the association of obesity with both incidence and aggressiveness of PTC is still incompletely understood. AREAS COVERED We reviewed the mechanisms underlying the cross talk between obesity and thyroid carcinomas and described the most recent evidence evaluating the effect of obesity on the development of PTC, as well as the impact of excessive body weight on the clinicopathologic features and outcome of this type of cancer. EXPERT OPINION Available evidence suggests that excessive body weight is linked with a higher risk of getting PTC, while its impact on the aggressiveness of the disease, if present, is still not clear. Therefore, while attention should be paid to discover thyroid cancer in patients with obesity earlier, once diagnosed it should be managed following a conventional workup as in normal weight patients, based on the clinical presentation of the disease and including active surveillance if appropriate, as recommended by referral guidelines.

Abstract
This paper reports various types of cancer, their incidence, and prevalence all over the globe. Along with the discovery of novel natural drugs for cancer treatment, these present a promising option which are eco-friendly, safe, and provide better acceptability in comparison to synthetic agents that carries multiple side effects. This paper provides an idea about various nanocarriers and phytochemicals, along with how their solubility and bioavailability can be enhanced in nanocarrier system. This report combines the data from various literature available on public domain including PubMed on research articles, reviews, and along with report from various national and international sites. Specialized metabolites (polyphenols, alkaloids, and steroids etc) from medicinal plants are promising alternatives to existing drugs. Studies have suggested that the treatment of cancer using plant products could be an alternative and a safe option. Studies have shown with the several cell lines as well as animal models, that phytomolecules are important in preventing/treating cancer. Phytochemicals often outperform chemical treatments by modulating a diverse array of cellular signaling pathways, promoting cell cycle arrest, apoptosis activation, and metastatic suppression, among others. However, limited water solubility, bioavailability, and cell penetration limit their potential clinical manifestations. The development of plant extract loaded nanostructures, rendering improved specificity and efficacy at lower concentrations could prove effective. Nanocarriers, such as liposomes, nanostructured lipids, polymers, and metal nanoparticles, have been tested for the delivery of plant products with enhanced effects. Recent advances have achieved improvement in the the stability, solubility, bioavailability, circulation time, and target specificity by nanostructure-mediated delivery of phytochemicals. Nanoparticles have been considered and attempted as a novel, targeted, and safe option. Newer approaches such as phyto-nanocarriers with carbohydrates, lignin, and polymers have been considered even more selective and effective modes of drug delivery in biomedical or diagnostic applications.

Abstract
BACKGROUND With the rising prevalence of obesity and overweight, increasing number of scholars paid attention to the negative effects on human health and life. Recent years, many studies have focused on the relation of socio-economic factors with the risk of overweight or obesity, but findings have been inconsistent. This study investigated the relationship between socio-economic factors and the risk of overweight and obesity among Chinese adults. METHODS This study was based on the survey of the China Health and Nutrition Survey in 2015, with 9245 Chinese adults aged 18-65 years old. Overweight and obesity were assessed by physical measurements of weight, height, and waist circumference. Multiple logistic models were used to estimate the odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) of the association. RESULTS Overall, the prevalence rates of general obesity and abdominal obesity were 15.5% and 22.6%, respectively. We found that education and per capita household income were positively associated with overweight and obesity risk in men. However, the association between education and obesity status was negative in women [general obesity: OR = 0.64, 95% CI (0.50-0.81); abdominal obesity: OR = 0.62, 95% CI (0.51-0.76)]. Occupational status was only associated with general overweight in men. CONCLUSIONS Results suggested that higher education and per capita household income were associated with an increased risk of overweight and obesity among Chinese men, whereas the associations were negative for women. We recommended that men with high levels of education and income, women with low levels of education, can engage in some physical activity, modify dietary, and adopt a new way of life to maintain their weight and general health.

Abstract
Background: Obesity is chronic health problem. Screening for the obesity phenotype is limited by the availability of practical methods. Methods: We determined the reproducibility and accuracy of an automated machine-learning method using smartphone camera-enabled capture and analysis of single, two-dimensional (2D) standing lateral digital images to estimate fat mass (FM) compared to dual X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) in females and males. We also report the first model to predict abdominal FM using 2D digital images. Results: Gender-specific 2D estimates of FM were significantly correlated (p < 0.001) with DXA FM values and not different (p > 0.05). Reproducibility of FM estimates was very high (R2 = 0.99) with high concordance (R2 = 0.99) and low absolute pure error (0.114 to 0.116 kg) and percent error (1.3 and 3%). Bland−Altman plots revealed no proportional bias with limits of agreement of 4.9 to −4.3 kg and 3.9 to −4.9 kg for females and males, respectively. A novel 2D model to estimate abdominal (lumbar 2−5) FM produced high correlations (R2 = 0.99) and concordance (R2 = 0.99) compared to DXA abdominal FM values. Conclusions: A smartphone camera trained with machine learning and automated processing of 2D lateral standing digital images is an objective and valid method to estimate FM and, with proof of concept, to determine abdominal FM. It can facilitate practical identification of the obesity phenotype in adults.

Abstract
Introduction Inflammation is a critical hallmark in obesity and colorectal cancer (CRC). This study aimed to investigate effective microRNA (miRNA)–messenger RNA (mRNA) interactions on inflammatory networks involved in obesity and CRC. Methods The literature searches were applied to identify genes expression reported on peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) and/or blood of CRC subjects and to find inflammatory miRNA in blood samples. Furthermore, bioinformatics analysis was utilized to find inflammatory miRNA:mRNA interactions of the genes. Finally, a case‐control study was set to investigate the expression of LAMC1 and GNB3 genes besides miR‐10b, miR‐506‐3p, miR‐150‐5p, and miR‐124‐3p in CRC and control subjects. Results The expression of LAMC1 gene in healthy control groups was associated with body mass index (BMI) (p < .05). The level of miR‐10b (p < .001), miR‐506 (p < .001), and miR‐124 (p <. 001) were significantly increased in PBMCs of CRC patients, while they were not associated with BMI. The level of miR‐150 was associated with BMI in healthy subjects (p < .05). Conclusions The changes in the level of miR‐506 and miR‐124 in CRC patients may be associated with the regulatory role of these miRNAs on LAMC1 expression. The LAMC1 may be related to BMI, however, more observational studies on other populations are needed.

Abstract
The link between obesity and colorectal cancer has been well established. The worldwide rise in obesity rates in the past 40 years means that we are dealing with increasing numbers of obese patients with colorectal cancer. We aimed to review the existing guidelines and make recommendations specific to this group of patients. Upon comparing the current NCCN Clinical Practice Guidelines in Oncology (NCCN Guidelines ®), the guidelines from the European Society of Medical Oncology (ESMO) and the guidelines of the Japanese Society for Cancer of the Colon and Rectum (JSCCR), we observed that these did not take into consideration the needs of obese patients. We proceeded to make specific recommendations with regards to the diagnostic work-up, surgical pathways, minimally invasive technique, perioperative treatment, post-operative surveillance, and management of metastatic disease in this group of patients. Our review highlights the need for modification of the existing guidelines to account for the needs of this patient cohort. A multidisciplinary approach, including principles used by bariatric surgeons, should be the way forward to reach consensus in the management of this group of patients.

Abstract
This study aimed (1) to investigate the association between body mass index (BMI), physical activity (PA), and physical function (PF) with health-related quality of life (HRQoL), and (2) to examine in-depth whether PA and PF mediate the relationship between BMI and HRQoL in older adults. We investigated 802 individuals (mean age 69.8 ± 5.6 years), residents of the Autonomous Region of Madeira, Portugal. Harmol and PA were assessed using the SF-36 and Baecke questionnaires, respectively, and PF by the Senior Fitness Test. The prevalence of overweight was 71.3%, 26.5% for normal weight, and 2.1% for underweight. We verified a small correlation between age and sex with BMI, PA, PF, and medium borderline with HRQoL. After adjusting for covariates (i.e., sex, age, comorbidities), the multivariate regression analysis indicated a 93.1% chance of improvement in HRQoL for low BMI, while PA and PF revealed a chance of increasing HRQoL by 91.8% and 60.0%, respectively. According to the serial mediation pathway, PA and PF partially mediated the association between BMI and HRQoL by 32.3% and 81.5%, respectively. The total variance of the model was 90%. It was concluded that BMI can negatively affect HRQoL. On the other hand, PA and PF are able to increase HRQoL levels during the aging process.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES This study establishes age- and sex-specific reference values for fat mass index (FMI), lean mass index (LMI), appendicular LMI (aLMI), and body fat distribution indices including Android/Gynoid % fat ratio and Trunk/Limb % fat ratio in multi-ethnic Singaporean adults. METHODS A population-based cross-sectional study using dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (Hologic Discovery Wi) was carried out to measure whole body and regional fat and lean mass in community-dwelling adults. A total of 537 adults (57.5% women), aged from 21 to 90 years, were recruited from the large north-eastern residential town of Yishun. Age- and sex-specific percentile reference values were generated for FMI, LMI, aLMI, Android/Gynoid % fat ratio and Trunk/Limb % fat ratio using the Lambda-Mu-Sigma method. The relationship between the parameters and age were assessed through the Pearson's correlation coefficient. RESULTS All parameters demonstrated significant correlation with age (p < 0.05) for both men and women, except for LMI in women, with the strength of r ranging from 0.12 (weak correlation) to 0.54 (strong correlation). LMI (r = -0.45) and appendicular LMI (r = -0.54) were negatively associated with age in men while none (r = -0.06) to weak correlation (r = -0.14) were shown in women for the same parameters respectively. The Android/Gynoid % fat ratio and Trunk/Limb % fat ratio were positively related to age for both men (r = 0.37 & 0.43, p < 0.001) and women (r = 0.52 & 0.48, p < 0.001). CONCLUSION We have established DXA-based body composition reference data for the Singapore adult population. These reference data will be particularly useful in geriatric, obesity and oncology clinics, enabling the prescription of appropriate therapy to individuals at risk of morbidity from unfavorable body composition phenotypes. It also adds on to the limited reference database on Southeast Asian body composition.

Abstract
The molecular mechanisms of obesity-induced cancer progression have been extensively explored because of the significant increase in obesity and obesity-related diseases worldwide. Studies have shown that obesity is associated with certain features of prostate cancer. In particular, bioactive factors released from periprostatic adipose tissues mediate the bidirectional communication between periprostatic adipose tissue and prostate cancer. Moreover, recent studies have shown that extracellular vesicles have a role in the relationship between tumor peripheral adipose tissue and cancer progression. Therefore, it is necessary to investigate the feedback mechanisms between prostate cancer and periglandular adipose and the role of exosomes as mediators of signal exchange to understand obesity as a risk factor for prostate cancer. This review summarizes the two-way communication between prostate cancer and periglandular adipose and discusses the potential role of exosomes as a cross-talk and the prospect of using adipose tissue as a means to obtain exosomes in vitro. Therefore, this review may provide new directions for the treatment of obesity to suppress prostate cancer.

Abstract
Excess body weight and obesity have become significant risk factors for cancer development. During obesity, adipose tissue alters its biological function, deregulating the secretion of bioactive factors such as hormones, cytokines, and adipokines that promote an inflammatory microenvironment conducive to carcinogenesis and tumor progression. Adipokines regulate tumor processes such as apoptosis, proliferation, migration, angiogenesis, and invasion. Additionally, it has been found that they can modulate autophagy, a process implicated in tumor suppression in healthy tissue and cancer progression in established tumors. Since the tumor-promoting role of autophagy has been well described, the process has been suggested as a therapeutic target in cancer. However, the effects of targeting autophagy might depend on the tumor type and microenvironmental conditions, where circulating adipokines could influence the role of autophagy in cancer. Here, we review recent evidence related to the role of adipokines in cancer cell autophagy in an effort to understand the tumor response in the context of obesity under the assumption of an autophagy-targeting treatment.

Abstract
CTRP6, a member of the C1q/TNF-related protein (CTRP) family, has gained increasing scientific interest because of its regulatory role in tumor progression. Previous studies have shown that CTRP6 is closely involved in regulating various pathophysiological processes, including glucose and lipid metabolism, cell proliferation, apoptosis, and inflammation. To date, CTRP6 has been identified as related to eight different malignancies, including lung cancer, oral cancer, gastric cancer, colon cancer, liver cancer, bladder cancer, renal cancer, and ovarian cancer. CTRP6 is reported to be associated with tumor progression by activating a series of related signal networks. This review article mainly discusses the biochemistry and pleiotropic pathophysiological functions of CTRP6 as a new molecular mediator in carcinogenesis, hoping that the information summarized herein could make a modest contribution to the development of novel cancer treatments in the future.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Obesity is associated with many physiological changes. We review available evidence regarding five commonly accepted assumptions to a priori predict the impact of obesity on drug pharmacokinetics (PK). AREAS COVERED The investigated assumptions are: 1) lean body weight is the preferred descriptor of clearance and dose adjustments; 2) volume of distribution increases for lipophilic, but not for hydrophilic drugs; 3) CYP-3A4 activity is suppressed and UGT activity is increased, implying decreased and increased dose requirements for substrates of these enzyme systems, respectively; 4) glomerular filtration rate is enhanced, necessitating higher doses for drugs cleared through glomerular filtration; 5) drug dosing information from obese adults can be extrapolated to obese adolescents. EXPERT OPINION Available literature contradicts, or at least limits the generalizability, of all five assumptions. Clinical studies should focus on quantifying the impact of duration and severity of obesity on drug PK in adults and adolescents, and also include oral bioavailability and pharmacodynamics in these studies. Physiologically-based PK approaches can be used to predict PK changes for individual drugs, but can also be used to define in general terms based on patient characteristics and drug properties, when certain assumptions can or cannot be expected to be systematically accurate.

Abstract
In everyday clinical practice, healthcare professionals often meet chronic pain patients with a poor nutritional status. A poor nutritional status such as malnutrition, unhealthy dietary behaviors, and a suboptimal dietary intake can play a significant role in the occurrence, development, and prognosis of chronic pain. The relationship between nutrition and chronic pain is complex and may involve many underlying mechanisms such as oxidative stress, inflammation, and glucose metabolism. As such, pain management requires a comprehensive and interdisciplinary approach that includes nutrition. Nutrition is the top modifiable lifestyle factor for chronic non-communicable diseases including chronic pain. Optimizing one's dietary intake and behavior needs to be considered in pain management. Thus, this narrative review reports and summarizes the existing evidence regarding (1) the nutrition-related health of people experiencing pain (2) the underlying potential mechanisms that explain the interaction between nutrition and chronic pain, and (3) the role of nutrition screening, assessment and evaluation for people experiencing pain and the scope of nutrition practice in pain management. Future directions in the nutrition and chronic pain field are also discussed.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Previous studies have reported that abnormal glucose metabolism is associated with poor cancer outcomes. Glycated hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) is an important indicator of glucose metabolism. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between nondiabetic HbA1c levels and cancer-related mortality. METHODS This was a retrospective cohort study of Koreans who attended an annual or biennial health checkup program. The study group was categorized based on the quintile of HbA1c level (Q1, 3.0-5.1%; Q2, 5.2-5.3%; Q3, 5.4%; Q4, 5.5-5.6%, Q5, 5.7-6.4%). Cancer-related mortality was determined using the mortality data from the Korea National Statistical Office. Participants with an established diagnosis of diabetes or cancer were excluded. Cancer-related mortality was assessed depending on each HbA1c level with adjustment for factors that could influence mortality. RESULTS A total of 589,457 participants were included in this study. During a median follow-up duration of 6.99 years, 1712 cancer-related deaths were reported. The risk of cancer-related mortality was significantly higher in the Q5 group (hazard ratio (HR) 1.23, range 1.02-1.47 in model 1; HR 1.25, range 1.04-1.50 in model 2). HbA1c levels were linearly associated with cancer-related deaths (Ptrend = 0.021 in model 1; 0.013 in model 2). HbA1c level and colorectal, stomach, and lung cancer mortality exhibited a positive relationship, whereas liver cancer-related mortality showed an inverse relationship with HbA1c level (Ptrend = 0.001). CONCLUSIONS Our study showed that abnormal glucose metabolism is significantly associated with cancer-related mortality, and its relationship varies with each type of cancer.

The Association of Waist Circumference with the Prevalence and Survival of Digestive Tract Cancer in US Adults: A Population Study Based on Machine Learning Methods. Abstract
Aims This paper aims to investigate the relationship of waist circumference (WC) with digestive tract cancer morbidity and mortality. Methods Based on the data from a nationally representative US population survey, we summarized the prevalence of digestive tract cancer and all-cause mortality of cancer patients across WC quartiles. Adjusted logistic regression and restricted spline curve were used to analyze WC and the prevalence of digestive tract cancer. Moreover, Cox regression and the Kaplan-Meier curve were applied to investigate the association of WC with all-cause mortality. We also attempted to make a model to predict cancer happening. Results This paper included a total of 34,041 participants, with digestive tract cancer observed in 265 (0.7%) individuals. WC was positively associated with digestive tract cancer morbidity after full adjustment of covariates (OR: 1.72 and 95% CI: 1.41-2.10). Also, individuals in the highest WC group had a higher risk of digestive tract cancer (Q4, OR: 2.71 and 95% CI: 1.48-5.00). Moreover, no significant association was observed in upper digestive cancer, and WC was associated with a longer survival time once diagnosed (hazard ratio (HR): 0.50 and 95% CI: 0.28-0.92). Finally, the model we made proved to be effective. Conclusion High WC is a risk factor for digestive tract cancer with or without adjusting for body mass index, especially those located in the lower digestive tract. However, once digestive tract cancer has been diagnosed, patients with higher WC showed better survival outcomes. Moreover, machine learning methods can be used to predict digestive tract cancer risk in the future.

Abstract
Relaxin family peptides significantly regulate reproduction, nutrient metabolism, and immune response in mammals. The present study aimed to identify and characterize the relaxin family peptides in cattle and buffalo at the genome level. The genomic and proteomic sequences of cattle, buffalo, goat, sheep, horse, and camel were accessed through the NCBI database, and BLAST was performed. We identified four relaxin peptides genes (RLN3, INSL3, INSL5, and INSL6) in Bos taurus, whereas three relaxin genes (RLN3, INSL3, and INSL6) in Bubalus bubalis. Evolutionary analysis revealed the conserved nature of relaxin family peptides in buffalo and cattle. Physicochemical properties revealed that relaxin proteins were thermostable, hydrophilic, and basic peptides except for INSL5 which was an acidic peptide. Three nonsynonymous mutations (two in RLN3 at positions A16 > T and P29 > A, and one in INSL6 at position R32 > Q) in Bos taurus, whereas two nonsynonymous mutations (one in RLN3 at positions G105 > w and one in INSL3 at position G22 > R) in Bubalus bubalis, were identified. INSL3 had one indel (insertion) at position 55 in Bos taurus. Gene duplication analysis revealed predominantly segmental duplications (INSL5/RLN3 and INSL6/INSL3 gene pairs) that helped expand this gene family, whereas Bubalus bubalis showed primarily tandem duplication (INSL3/RLN3). Our study concluded that relaxin family peptides remained conserved during the evolution, and gene duplications might help to adapt and enrich specific functions like reproduction, nutrient metabolism, and immune response. Further, the nonsynonymous mutations identified potentially affect these functions in buffalo.

Abstract
Obesity is the most common nutritional disease in dogs, and its prevalence has increased in recent decades. Several countries have demonstrated a prevalence of obesity in dogs similar to that observed in humans. Chronic low-grade inflammation is a prominent basis used to explain how obesity results in numerous negative health consequences. This is well known and understood, and recent studies have pointed to the association between obesity and predisposition to specific types of cancers and their complications. Such elucidations are important because, like obesity, the prevalence of cancer in dogs has increased in recent decades, establishing cancer as a significant cause of death for these animals. In the same way, intensive advances in technology in the field of human and veterinary medicine (which even proposes the use of animal models) have optimized existing therapeutic methods, led to the development of innovative treatments, and shortened the time to diagnosis of cancer. Despite the great challenges, this review aims to highlight the evidence obtained to date on the association between obesity, inflammation, and cancer in dogs, and the possible pathophysiological mechanisms that link obesity and carcinogenesis. The potential to control cancer in animals using existing knowledge is also presented.

Abstract
Childhood and adolescent exposure to obesogenic environments has contributed to the development of several health disorders, including neurocognitive impairment. Adolescence is a critical neurodevelopmental window highly influenced by environmental factors that affect brain function until adulthood. Post-weaning chronic exposure to a high-fat diet (HFD) adversely affects memory performance; physical activity is one approach to coping with these dysfunctions. Previous studies indicate that voluntary exercise prevents HFD's detrimental effects on memory; however, it remains to evaluate whether it has a remedial/therapeutical effect when introduced after a long-term HFD exposure. This study was conducted on a diet-induced obesity mice model over six months. After three months of HFD exposure (without interrupting the diet) access to voluntary physical activity was provided. HFD produced weight gain, increased adiposity, and impaired glucose tolerance. Voluntary physical exercise ameliorated glucose tolerance and halted weight gain and fat accumulation. Additionally, physical activity mitigated HFD-induced spatial and recognition memory impairments. Our data indicate that voluntary physical exercise starting after several months of periadolescent HFD exposure reverses metabolic and cognitive alterations demonstrating that voluntary exercise, in addition to its known preventive effect, also has a restorative impact on metabolism and cognition dysfunctions associated with obesity.

Abstract
Cancer in patients with obesity has become increasingly common throughout much of the world. Based on our experiences in a specialized cancer center, we have developed a set of standards and expectations that should streamline the surgical journey for this patient population. These recommendations should inform the perioperative management of oncology patients with obesity and help raise awareness of this critical and under-discussed topic.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Obesity is a risk factor for multiple myeloma (MM), yet results of prior studies have been mixed regarding the importance of early and/or later adult obesity; other measures of body composition have been less well studied. METHODS We evaluated associations of early adult (ages 18-21) and usual adult body mass index (BMI), waist circumference, and predicted fat mass with MM by pooling data from six U.S. prospective cohort studies comprising 544,016 individuals and 2756 incident diagnoses over 20-37 years of follow-up. We used Cox proportional hazards models to calculate hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for associations, adjusted for age and other risk factors. RESULTS Each 5 kg/m2 increase in usual adult BMI was associated with a 10% increased risk of MM (HR: 1.10; 95% CI: 1.05-1.15). Positive associations were also noted for early adult BMI (HR per 5 kg/m2: 1.14; 95% CI: 1.04-1.25), height (HR per 10 cm: 1.28; 95% CI: 1.20-1.37), waist circumference (HR per 15 cm: 1.09; 95% CI: 1.00-1.19), and predicted fat mass (HR per 5 kg: 1.06; 95% CI: 1.01-1.11). CONCLUSIONS These findings highlight the importance of avoidance of overweight/obesity and excess adiposity throughout adulthood as a potential MM risk-reduction strategy.

Abstract
Objective This study was designed to assess the effects of a combination of Allium sativum and Olea europaea oil on disturbed lipid profiles in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Methods This randomized control trial (RCT) involved 160 patients of either sex (aged 40-60 years) with T2DM and dyslipidemia, and were equally divided into two groups. Group A patients received hypoglycemic and lipid lowering agents (Tab glimepiride 2 mg + metformin HCl 500 mg and Tab rosuvastatin 10 mg once a day orally). Patients in group B were given the same allopathic drugs as group A, in combination with A. sativum and O. europaea oil over a period of 6 months. Blood samples were taken at three stages of the study to allow the analysis of lipid profiles. Results Analysis showed that after 3 and 6 months of treatment, the mean levels of serum cholesterol, triglycerides (TGs) and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) were reduced in both groups and that there was a highly significant (P < 0.001) decline in group B when compared to group A. High-density lipoprotein (HDL) levels increased in both groups but there was a significant (P < 0.05) increase in the group B when compared to group A. The percentage reduction was highest at 6 months of treatment for cholesterol, TGs, LDL and HDL in group B (41.5%, 45.9%, 60.4% and 58.1%, respectively). Conclusion The antihyperlipidemic activity observed may be due to the presence of antioxidants in the test substances. Further studies should be conducted with a larger sample size in order to further evaluate the role of A. sativum powder and O. europaea oil in patients with T2DM with dyslipidemia.

Abstract
Aim To evaluate in a pilot study time-related changes in the clinical state, indexes of the acute phase of inflammation, parameters of blood lipid profile, intracardiac hemodynamics, and disorders of cardiac rhythm/conduction in patients who are not candidates for autologous hemopoietic stem cell transplantation, during three bortezomib-containing chemotherapy courses (VCD) followed by a correlation analysis.Material and methods This pilot study included 20 patients diagnosed with myeloma, who were not candidates for autologous hemopoietic stem cell transplantation and who had undergone three courses of VCD chemotherapy (bortezomib, cyclophosphamide and dexamethasone). In addition to mandatory examinations, measurement of blood lipid profile, transthoracic echocardiography (EchoCG), and 24-h Holter electrocardiogram (ECG) monitoring were performed for all participants before and after a specific therapy.Results Following three bortezomib-containing courses of chemotherapy, patients of the study group had significant increases in the neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) (1.6±0.2 and 2.5±0.4; р=0.05), cholesterol concentration (4.8±1.1 and 5.6±1.1 mmol/l, р=0.05), and low-density lipoprotein concentration (2.8±0.4 and 3.5±0.8 mmol/l, р=0.02). In comparing the changes in parameters of intracardiac hemodynamics, criteria for genuine cardiotoxicity were not met, however, a tendency to emergence/progression of myocardial diastolic dysfunction was noted. No clinically significant disorders of cardiac rhythm/conduction were observed. The correlation analysis performed prior to the start of chemotherapy, showed significant strong, direct correlations between the C-protein concentration and left atrial (LA) volume (r=0.793; p=0.006), right atrial (RA) volume (r=0.857; p=0.002), left ventricular (LV) end-diastolic dimension (EDD) (r=0.589; p=0.043), and LV end-diastolic volume (EDV) (r=0.726; p=0.017). Following the specific treatment, significant, medium-power and strong correlations were found between NLR and EDV (r= -0.673; p=0.033), NLR and end systolic volume (ESV) (r= -0.710; p=0.021), respectively. Significant direct correlations were found between the bortezomib dose per one injection and the serum concentration of triglycerides following the treatment (r=0.78; p=0.05); a single bortezomib dose and parameters of intracardiac hemodynamics: LA (r=0.71; p=0.026), RA (r=0.74; p=0.014), EDD (r=0.837; p=0.003), EDV (r=0.749; p=0.013), ESV (r=0.553; p=0.049).Conclusion For the first time, a comprehensive evaluation was performed in patients with multiple myeloma, including the dynamics of blood lipid profile, intracardiac hemodynamics and disorders of cardiac rhythm/conduction during bortezomib-containing antitumor therapy, with an analysis of correlation with levels of acute inflammation phase markers. Although in the observation window for genuine cardiotoxicity, clinically significant cardiovascular complications were not detected, the found correlations may evidence a potential role of systemic inflammation activity in myocardial remodeling in the studied patient cohort.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Adults with cystic fibrosis (CF) have an increased risk of a variety of cancers, notably gastrointestinal cancers. In CF higher body mass index (BMI) is associated with improved long-term outcomes, yet in the general population high BMI is associated with increased cancer risk. We aimed to delineate associations between BMI and other factors with cancer risk in adults with CF. METHODS This was a retrospective cohort study using CF Foundation Patient Registry data from 1992 to 2015. Data were collected on age, sex, CFTR mutation class, pancreatic insufficiency, and annualized data on BMI and FEV1. The primary analysis was the association between BMI and cancer, with secondary analyses focused on BMI trajectory. Multivariable logistic regression was performed, with analyses stratified by history of transplant. RESULTS Of 26,199 adults with CF, 446 (1.7%) had cancer diagnosed by histology at a mean age of 40.0 years (SD 12.2), with a higher proportion of transplanted patients developing cancer (137 (3.8%) v 309(1.4%), p < 0.001). Among non-transplanted patients, there was no association between BMI and cancer (p for trend = 0.43). Pancreatic insufficiency (p < 0.01) and higher FEV1 (p < 0.01) were associated with increased cancer risk. In transplanted patients, higher BMI was associated with reduced risk of cancer (p for trend = 0.04). Older age was associated with increased risk in both groups (p < 0.001). BMI trajectories were not associated with cancer risk in either group. CONCLUSION Higher BMI is associated with a reduced risk of cancer in transplanted adults with CF. Pancreatic insufficiency is a risk factor for cancer in non-transplanted CF patients.

Abstract
Obesity-related metabolic disorders such as hypertension, hyperlipidemia and chronic inflammation have been associated with aortic dilatation and resulting in aortic aneurysms in many cases. Whether weight loss may reduce the risk of aortic dilatation is not clear. In this study, the diameter of the descending thoracic aorta, infrarenal abdominal aorta and aortic bifurcation of 144 overweight or obese non-smoking adults were measured by MR-imaging, at baseline, and 12 and 50 weeks after weight loss by calorie restriction. Changes in aortic diameter, anthropometric measures and body composition and metabolic markers were evaluated using linear mixed models. The association of the aortic diameters with the aforementioned clinical parameters was analyzed using Spearman`s correlation. Weight loss was associated with a reduction in the thoracic and abdominal aortic diameters 12 weeks after weight loss (predicted relative differences for Quartile 4: 2.5% ± 0.5 and -2.2% ± 0.8, p < 0.031; respectively). Furthermore, there was a nominal reduction in aortic diameters during the 50-weeks follow-up period. Aortic diameters were positively associated with weight, visceral adipose tissue, glucose, HbA1c and with both systolic and diastolic blood pressure. Weight loss induced by calorie restriction may reduce aortic diameters. Future studies are needed to investigate, whether the reduction of aortic diameters via calorie restriction may help to prevent aortic aneurysms.

Abstract
Obesity is primarily characterized by the dysregulation of lipid metabolism and gut microbiota. Here, we found that the body weight of transgenic mice overexpressing L2Δ13, a selectively spliced isoform of lysyl oxidase-like 2 (LOXL2), was lower than that of wild-type (WT) mice. Numerous microbiotas were significantly changed and most microbial metabolites were abnormal in L2Δ13 mice. Lipid metabolites in feces were negatively correlated with those in plasma, suggesting that L2Δ13 may affect lipid uptake, and potentially, adipose tissue homeostasis. This was supported by the weight loss and decreased area of adipose tissue in L2Δ13 mice. Adipogenic differentiation of primary stromal vascular fraction cells showed that the lipid droplets of L2Δ13 cells were significantly smaller than those of WT cells. Adipocyte differentiation-associated genes were also downregulated in adipose tissue from L2Δ13 mice. Thus, L2Δ13 can induce adipose tissue loss in mice by affecting gut microbiota homeostasis and multi-tissue lipid metabolism.

Abstract
The review focuses on mechanistic evidence for the link between obesity and breast cancer. According to the IARC study, there is sufficient evidence that obesity is closely related to a variety of cancers. Among them, breast cancer is particularly disturbed by adipose tissue due to the unique histological structure of the breast. The review introduces the relationship between obesity and breast cancer from two aspects, including factors that promote tumorigenesis or metastasis. We summarize alterations in adipokines and metabolic pathways that contribute to breast cancer development. Breast cancer metastasis is closely related to obesity-induced pro-inflammatory microenvironment, adipose stem cells, and miRNAs. Based on the mechanism by which obesity causes breast cancer, we list possible therapeutic directions, including reducing the risk of breast cancer and inhibiting the progression of breast cancer. We also discussed the risk of autologous breast remodeling and fat transplantation. Finally, the causes of the obesity paradox and the function of enhancing immunity are discussed. Evaluating the balance between obesity-induced inflammation and enhanced immunity warrants further study.

Abstract
Neuroendocrine neoplasms are a heterogeneous group of neoplasms with increasing incidence, high prevalence, and survival worldwide. About 90% of cases are well differentiated forms, the so-called neuroendocrine tumors (NETs), with slow proliferation rates and prolonged survival but frequent development of liver metastases and endocrine syndromes. Both the tumor itself and systemic therapy may have an impact on patient nutrition. Malnutrition has a negative impact on outcome in patients with NETs, as well as obesity. In addition, obesity and metabolic syndrome have been shown to be risk factors for both the development and prognosis of NET. Therefore, dietary assessment based on body composition and lifestyle modifications should be an integral part of the treatment of NET patients. Nutrition plans, properly formulated by a dietician, are an integral part of the multidisciplinary treatment team for patients with NETs because they allow an improvement in quality of life, providing a tailored approach based on nutritional needs and nutritional manageable signs and/or symptoms related to pharmacological treatment. The aim of this review is to condense the latest evidence on the role of the most used dietary models, the Mediterranean diet, the ketogenic diet, and intermittent fasting, in the context of NETs, while considering the clinical and molecular mechanisms by which these dietary models act.

Abstract
Obesity is an established risk factor for several human cancers. Given the association between excess body weight and cancer, the increasing rates of obesity worldwide are worrisome. A variety of obesity-related factors has been implicated in cancer initiation, progression, and response to therapy. These factors include circulating nutritional factors, hormones, and cytokines, causing hyperinsulinemia, inflammation, and adipose tissue dysfunction. The impact of these conditions on cancer development and progression has been the focus of extensive literature. In this review, we concentrate on processes that can link obesity and cancer, and which provide a novel perspective: extracellular matrix remodeling, angiogenesis, and adrenergic signaling. We describe molecular mechanisms involved in these processes, which represent putative targets for intervention. Liver, pancreas, and breast cancers were chosen as exemplary disease models. In view of the expanding epidemic of obesity, a better understanding of the tumorigenic process in obese individuals might lead to more effective treatments and preventive measures.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Neurofibromatosis 1 (NF1) is a common autosomal dominant syndrome with complete penetrance and highly variable expressivity. The cutaneous neurofibroma (Cnf) and plexiform neurofibroma (Pnf), café-au-lait spots, and freckle-like lesions are common in NF1, but many other manifestations can occur. We aimed to evaluate head circumference, height, weight, body mass index (BMI), head circumference-to-height ratio (HCHR) and waist-hip ratio (WHR) in adult NF1 Brazilian individuals versus a paired control group and investigate their correlation with the presence of clinically visible Pnfs, and number of "skin neurofibromas" (Snf), which include both cutaneous and subcutaneous neurofibromas. METHODS A case-control study was conducted with 168 individuals, 84 with NF1 and 84 without NF1, paired by sex and age. Head circumference and anthropometric measurements, Snf quantification, evaluation of clinically visible Pnf and familial inheritance were accessed. RESULTS Prevalence of macrocephaly was significantly higher in NF1 women. Height and weight were significantly lower in both males and females with NF1. HCHR was higher in the NF1 group than in the control group for both sexes. BMI was significantly lower in men with NF1. Waist and hip circumferences were significantly reduced in NF compared with the controls, but the mean WHR was significantly lower only in NF1 women. No correlation was found between the Snf and head circumference and anthropometric measurements, sex or family history. The presence and larger size of clinically visible plexiform neurofibromas were associated with normal stature (p = 0.037 and p = 0.003, respectively). CONCLUSIONS NF1 individuals have increased prevalence of macrocephaly, short stature, low BMI, and reduced abdominal fat. There is no relation between head circumference and anthropometric data with family history, or neurofibromas.

Abstract
Objective To investigate different parameters derived from the quantity and quality of perinephric fat, and to compare their effectiveness in predicting the malignant pathology of renal tumours. Methods Data from patients diagnosed with renal tumour between April 2014 and December 2020 were retrospectively reviewed, and patients were categorized into malignant or benign tumour groups. Fat parameters, including perinephric fat volume (PFV), perinephric fat area (PFA), perinephric fat thickness (PFT), and Mayo adhesive probability (MAP) score were measured using abdominal computed tomography scans. Between-group differences were assessed by analysis of variance and χ2-test. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis was performed to evaluate the performance of perinephric fat parameters in diagnosing malignancy. Results A total of 109 patients were included. MAP score, PFV, PFA, and PFT were significantly increased in the malignant versus benign tumour group, and after correction for body mass index (BMI), the indexed PFV/BMI, PFA/BMI, and PFT/BMI values remained significantly higher in the malignant tumour group. All parameters showed fair predictivity of malignancy, with comparable area under the curve values in the ROC curve. Conclusion An increased amount of perinephric fat is predictive of malignant pathology for renal tumours. The predictive accuracy for each perinephric fat parameter remained fair after correcting for BMI.

Abstract
Obesity is a complex metabolic condition considered a worldwide public health crisis, and a deeper mechanistic understanding of obesity-associated diseases is urgently needed. Obesity comorbidities include many associated cancers and are estimated to account for 20% of female cancer deaths in the USA. Breast cancer, in particular, is associated with obesity and is the focus of this review. The exact causal links between obesity and breast cancer remain unclear. Still, interactions have emerged between body mass index, tumor molecular subtype, genetic background, and environmental factors that strongly suggest obesity influences the risk and progression of certain breast cancers. Supportive preclinical research uses various diet-induced obesity models to demonstrate that weight loss, via dietary interventions or changes in energy expenditure, reduces the onset or progression of breast cancers. Ongoing and future studies are now aimed at elucidating the underpinning mechanisms behind weight-loss-driven observations to improve therapy and outcomes in patients with breast cancer and reduce risk. This review aims to summarize the rapidly emerging literature on obesity and weight loss strategies with a focused discussion of bariatric surgery in both clinical and preclinical studies detailing the complex interactions between metabolism, immune response, and immunotherapy in the setting of obesity and breast cancer.

Abstract
Background This Obesity Medicine Association (OMA) Clinical Practice Statement (CPS) provides an overview of cancer and increased body fat. Methods The scientific information for this CPS is based upon published scientific citations, clinical perspectives of OMA authors, and peer review by the Obesity Medicine Association leadership. Results Topics include the increased risk of cancers among patients with obesity, cancer risk factor population-attributable fractions, genetic and epigenetic links between obesity and cancer, adiposopathic and mechanistic processes accounting for increased cancer risk among patients with obesity, the role of oxidative stress, and obesity-related cancers based upon Mendelian randomization and observational studies. Other topics include nutritional and physical activity principles for patients with obesity who either have cancer or are at risk for cancer, and preventive care as it relates to cancer and obesity. Conclusions Obesity is the second most common preventable cause of cancer and may be the most common preventable cause of cancer among nonsmokers. This Obesity Medicine Association (OMA) Clinical Practice Statement (CPS) on cancer is one of a series of OMA CPSs designed to assist clinicians in the care of patients with the disease of obesity. Patients with obesity are at greater risk of developing certain types of cancers, and treatment of obesity may influence the risk, onset, progression, and recurrence of cancer in patients with obesity.

Abstract
Cancer has become the most common cause of death in China. Owing to rapid economic development, improved livelihood, and shifts in risk factors, cancer epidemiology has experienced substantial changes during the past several decades. In this review, we aim to describe the current cancer epidemiology of the main types of cancer in China, report major risk factors associated with cancer development, and summarize the contributions of the Chinese government to controlling the cancer burden. A total of 4,064,000 new cases were diagnosed in China in 2016. The most frequent types are lung cancer (828,100; 20.4%), colorectal cancer (408,000; 10.0%), and gastric cancer (396,500; 9.8%). Lung (657,000; 27.2%), liver (336,400, 13.9%), and stomach (288,500; 12.0%) cancers are the 3 most deadly cancers in the general population. The 5-year survival rate for cancer has dramatically increased in recent decades. However, liver and particularly pancreatic cancers still have the poorest prognosis. The main modifiable risk factors associated with cancer development include infectious agents, smoking, alcohol consumption, obesity, unhealthful dietary habits, and inadequate physical activity. The Chinese government has made unremitting efforts to decrease the cancer burden, including cancer education and investment in cancer screening programs.

Abstract
Nowadays, T-cell-based approaches play an increasing role in cancer treatment. In particular, the use of (genetically engineered) T-cells has heralded a novel era for various diseases with previously poor outcomes. Concurrently, the relationship between the functional behavior of immune cells and their metabolic state, known as immunometabolism, has been found to be an important determinant for the success of immunotherapy. In this context, immune cell metabolism is not only controlled by the expression of transcription factors, enzymes and transport proteins but also by nutrient availability and the presence of intermediate metabolites. The lack of as well as an oversupply of nutrients can be detrimental and lead to cellular dysfunction and damage, potentially resulting in reduced metabolic fitness and/or cell death. This review focusses on the detrimental effects of excessive exposure of T cells to fatty acids, known as lipotoxicity, in the context of an altered lipid tumor microenvironment. Furthermore, implications of T cell-related lipotoxicity for immunotherapy will be discussed, as well as potential therapeutic approaches.

Abstract
Diet influences onset, progression, and severity of several chronic diseases, including heart failure, diabetes, steatohepatitis, and a subset of cancers. The prevalence and clinical burden of these obesity-linked diseases has risen over the past two decades. These metabolic disorders are driven by ectopic lipid deposition in tissues not suited for fat storage, leading to lipotoxic disruption of cell function and survival. Sphingolipids such as ceramides are among the most deleterious and bioactive metabolites that accrue, as they participate in selective insulin resistance, dyslipidemia, oxidative stress and apoptosis. This review discusses our current understanding of biochemical pathways controlling ceramide synthesis, production and action; influences of diet on ceramide levels; application of circulating ceramides as clinical biomarkers of metabolic disease; and molecular mechanisms linking ceramides to altered metabolism and survival of cells. Development of nutritional or pharmacological strategies to lower ceramides could have therapeutic value in a wide range of prevalent diseases.

Abstract
The genus Handroanthus Mattos (Bignoniaceae) is widely used for the treatment of cancer in traditional medicine in Brazil and other South American countries. The anticancer potential of species of this genus has been reported in the literature, indicating that their chemical compounds may be effective against different tumor cell lines. In this perspective, the present study aimed to conduct a systematic review of ethnobotanical, pharmacological, phytochemical and toxicological information on Handroanthus species related to cancer treatment. Searches were conducted in the Google Scholar, PubMed®, ScienceDirect® and SciELO databases. A total of 78 articles published in the last thirty-two years (1990-2022) were eligible and included in the review. According to the scientific documents analyzed, five species of Handroanthus are widely used for the treatment of cancer in the traditional medicine of Brazil and other South American countries, including Bolivia and Argentina. The bark (88%) is the main part used in traditional preparations. Extracts and fractions from Handroanthus showed cytotoxicity against the following tumor cell lines: HL-60, MDA-MB-435, MDA-MB-231, MCF-7, HT-29, HCT-8, HCT-116, HEp-2, HepG2, CACO-2, SF-295, NCI-H292, NCI-H460, HeLa, and OVCAR-8. β-Lapachone, a naphthoquinone isolated from some species of this genus, is the most investigated compound for anticancer potential and has proved effective against some lung cancer cell lines (CL1-1, CL1-5 and A549). Results related to toxicological studies were not conclusive, considering that some extracts and compounds isolated from plants of this genus may present some degree of toxicity depending on the time of use and the concentration/dose used. Thus, despite the promising effects against various cancer cell lines, caution is needed when making use of these products.

Abstract
The increasing prevalence of obesity worldwide is associated with an increased risk of various diseases, including multiple metabolic diseases, cardiovascular diseases, and malignant tumors. Fatty acid binding proteins (FABPs) are members of the adipokine family of multifunctional proteins that are related to fatty acid metabolism and are divided into 12 types according to their tissue origin. FABP4 is mainly secreted by adipocytes and macrophages. Under obesity, the synthesis of FABP4 increases, and the FABP4 content is higher not only in tissues but also in the blood, which promotes the occurrence and development of various cancers. Here, we comprehensively investigated obesity epidemiology and the biological mechanisms associated with the functions of FABP4 that may explain this effect. In this review, we explore the molecular mechanisms by which FABP4 promotes carcinoma development and the interaction between fat and cancer cells in obese circumstances here. This review leads us to understand how FABP4 signaling is involved in obesity-associated tumors, which could increase the potential for advancing novel therapeutic strategies and molecular targets for the systematic treatment of malignant tumors.
