Abstract
New series of bio-essential metal based complexes linked by Schiff base ligand (L) and 2,2'-bipyridine (bpy) have been synthesized and characterized by diverse spectral techniques such as elemental analysis, magnetic susceptibility, molar conductivity measurements, FT-IR, UV-Vis., (1)H NMR, (13)C NMR, EPR and Mass. The spectral data suggest that the metal complexes espouse octahedral geometry around the metal ions. Interactions of the complexes with CT DNA have been explored by electronic absorption, ethidium bromide displacement assay, viscosity measurements, cyclic voltammetry and differential pulse voltammetry in order to evaluate the possible DNA-binding mode and to calculate the corresponding DNA-binding constants. The DNA interaction studies propose that the intercalative mode of interaction and the complexes exhibit oxidative cleavage of pUC19 DNA in the presence of hydrogen peroxide as activator. The synthesized Schiff base ligand and its metal complexes have been screened for anti-microbial activity by micro dilution method against two Gram-positive bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus subtilis), two Gram-negative bacteria (Escherichia coli and Salmonella typhi) and three fungi strains (Fusarium solani, Aspergillus niger and Candida albicans) revealing that the complexes are good anti-pathogenic agents than the ligand. Moreover, molecular docking analysis has been performed to confirm the nature of binding of the complexes with DNA.

Abstract
Schiff-based complexes as a source of cancer chemotherapeutic compounds have been subjected to the variety of anticancer studies. The in-vitro analysis confirmed the CdCl2(C14H21N3O2) complex possess cytotoxicity and apoptosis induction properties in colon cancer cells, so lead to investigate the inhibitory efficiency of the compound on colonic aberrant crypt foci (ACF). Five groups of adult male rats were used in this study: Vehicle, cancer control, positive control groups and the groups treated with 25 and 50 mg/kg of complex for 10 weeks. The rats in vehicle group were injected subcutaneously with 15 mg/kg of sterile normal saline once a week for 2 weeks and orally administered with 5% Tween-20 (5 ml/kg) for 10 weeks, other groups were injected subcutaneously with 15 mg/kg azoxymethane once a week for 2 weeks. The rats in positive groups were injected intra-peritoneally with 35 mg/kg 5-Flourouracil four times in a month. Administration of the complex suppressed total colonic ACF formation up to 73.4% (P < 0.05). The results also showed that treatment with the complex significantly reduced the level of malondialdehyde while increasing superoxide dismutase and catalase activities. Furthermore, the down-regulation of PCNA and Bcl2 and the up-regulation of Bax was confirmed by immunohistochemical staining.

Abstract
Three Schiff's bases AI (2(1-hydrazonoethyl)phenol), AII (2, 4-dibromo 6-(hydrazonomethyl)phenol) and AIII (2(hydrazonomethyl)phenol) were prepared as new hydrazone compounds via condensation reactions with molar ratio (1:1) of reactants. Firstly by reaction of 2-hydroxy acetophenone solution and hydrazine hydrate; it gives AI. Secondly condensation between 3,5-dibromo-salicylaldehyde and hydrazine hydrate gives AII. Thirdly condensation between salicylaldehyde and hydrazine hydrate gives AIII. The structures of AI-AIII were characterized by elemental analysis (EA), mass (MS), FT-IR and (1)H NMR spectra, and thermal analyses (TG, DTG, and DTA). The activation thermodynamic parameters, such as, ΔE(∗), ΔH(∗), ΔS(∗) and ΔG(∗) were calculated from the TG curves using Coats-Redfern method. It is important to investigate their molecular structures to know the active groups and weak bond responsible for their biological activities. Consequently in the present work, the obtained thermal (TA) and mass (MS) practical results are confirmed by semi-empirical MO-calculations (MOCS) using PM3 procedure. Their biological activities have been tested in vitro against Escherichia coli, Proteus vulgaris, Bacillissubtilies and Staphylococcus aurous bacteria in order to assess their anti-microbial potential.

Abstract
Novel penta-azamacrocyclic 15-membered [N5] ligand [L] i.e. 1,5,8,12-tetetraaza-3,4: 9,10-dibenzo-6-ethyl-7-methyl-1,12-(2,6-pyrido)cyclopentadecan-5,7 diene-2,11-dione and its transition metal complexes with Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Ru(III) and Pd(II) have been synthesized and structurally characterized by elemental analysis, spectral, thermal as well as magnetic and molar conductivity measurements. On basis of IR, MS, UV-Vis 1H NMR and EPR spectral studies an octahedral geometry has been proposed for all complexes except Co(II), Cu(II) nitrate complexes and Pd(II) chloride complex that adopt tetrahedral, square pyramidal and square planar geometries, respectively. The antitumor activity of the synthesized ligand and some complexes against human breast cancer cell lines (MCF-7) and human hepatocarcinoma cell lines (HepG2) has been studied. The complexes (IC50=2.04-9.7, 2.5-3.7 μg/mL) showed potent antitumor activity comparable with their ligand (IC50=11.7, 3.45 μg/mL) against the above mentioned cell lines, respectively. The results evidently show that the activity of the ligand becomes more pronounced and significant when coordinated to the metal ion.

Abstract
The binuclear hydrazone, H2L, ligand derived from 4-amino-6-methyl-3-thioxo-3,4-dihydro-1,2,4-triazin-5(2H)-one and 4,6-diacetylresorcinol, in the molar ratio 2:1, and its copper(II), nickel(II), cobalt(II), zinc(II), cadmium(II), cerium(III), iron(III), oxovanadium(IV) and dioxouranium(VI) complexes have been synthesized. Structures of the ligand and its metal complexes were characterized by elemental analyses, spectral (infrared, electronic, mass, 1H NMR and ESR) data, magnetic susceptibility, molar conductivity measurements and thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA). The ligand acts as dibasic with two ONS tridentate sites. The bonding sites are the azomethine nitrogen, phenolate oxygen and sulfur atoms. The metal complexes exhibit different geometrical arrangements such as square planer, tetrahedral and octahedral. The Coats-Redfern equation was used to calculate the kinetic and thermodynamic parameters for the different thermal decomposition steps of some complexes. The ligand and its metal complexes showed antimicrobial activity towards Gram-positive bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus subtilis), Gram-negative bacteria (Salmonella typhimurium and Escherichia coli), yeast (Candida albicans) and fungus (Aspergillus fumigatus). Structural parameters of the ligand and its metal complexes were theoretically computed on the basis of semiempirical PM3 level, and the results were correlated with their experimental data.

Abstract
Metal complexes of copper(II), nickel(II), cobalt(II), oxovanadium(IV), chromium(III) and cadmium(II) with a new bridged ONS dibasic tridentate hydrazone (H2L) derived from 5-acetyl-4-hydroxy-2H-1,3-thiazine-2,6(3H)-dione with S-methyl dithiocarbazate have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, molar conductance, magnetic susceptibility measurements, spectral (infrared, electronic, mass, 1H NMR and ESR) studies as well as thermal gravimetric analysis (TGA). The synthesized complexes have dimeric structures with the general formula [ML(NO3)m(H2O)x]2·nH2O·zMeOH, L=dianion of the hydrazone, m=0-1, x=0-2, n=0-4 and z=0-1. The metal complexes exhibited square planar, tetrahedral and octahedral geometrical arrangements, the molar conductivity data indicates that all complexes are neutral. The Coats-Redfern equation was used to calculate the kinetic and thermodynamic parameters for the different thermal decomposition stages of some complexes. Structural parameters of the ligand and its metal complexes have been theoretically computed on the basis of semiempirical PM3 level and the results were correlated with their experimental data. Antibacterial activities of the free ligand and its metal complexes were screened against various organisms.

Abstract
Nine new bis-azo dyes derived from 5-arylidene-2,4-thiazolidinone have been synthesized in two steps using Knoevenagel condensation and diazotization-coupling reaction. The structures of the compounds were confirmed by UV-vis, IR, (1)H NMR and (13)C NMR spectroscopic techniques. The spectral characterizations demonstrate that there is an equilibrium between the azo (T1) and hydrazine (T2 and T3) tautomers for all prepared dyes in solutions. In addition, the solvatochromic behavior of the prepared dyes was evaluated using polarity/polarizability parameter (π(*)) in various solvents. The UV-vis absorption spectra of dyes show a bathochromic shift with increasing polarity and base strength of the solvents. Finally, the effects of acid and base on the UV-vis absorption spectra of the dyes with different substituent in diazo component are reported.

Abstract
The NSAID lornoxicam (LOR) drug was used for complex formation reactions with different metal salts like Cr(III), Mn(II), Fe(III) and Ni(II) chlorides and Fe(II), Co(II), Cu(II) and Zn(II) borates. Mononuclear complexes of these metals are obtained that coordinated to NO sites of LOR ligand molecule. The nature of bonding and the stereochemistry of the complexes have been deduced from elemental analyses, IR, UV-Vis, (1)H NMR, mass, electronic spectra, magnetic susceptibility and ESR spectral studies, conductivity measurements, thermogravimetric analyses (TG-DTG) and further confirmed by X-ray powder diffraction. The activation thermodynamic parameters are calculated using Coats-Redfern and Horowitz-Metzger methods. The data show that the complexes have composition of ML2 type except for Fe(II) where the type is [ML3]. The electronic absorption spectral data of the complexes suggest an octahedral geometry around the central metal ion for all the complexes. The antimicrobial data reveals that LOR ligand in solution show inhibition capacity less or sometimes more than the corresponding complexes against all the species under study. In order to establish their future potential in biomedical applications, anticancer evaluation studies against standard breast cancer cell lines (MCF7) was performed using different concentrations. The obtained results indicate high inhibition activity for Cr(III), Fe(II) and Cu(II) complexes against breast cancer cell line (MCF7) and recommends them for testing as antitumor agents.

Abstract
Novel Schiff base (H(2)L, 1,2-bis[(2-(2-mercaptophenylimino)methyl)phenoxy] ethane) derived from condensation of bisaldehyde and 2-aminothiophenol was prepared in a molar ratio 1:2. The ligand and its metal complexes are fully characterized with analytical and spectroscopic techniques. The metal complexes with Cr(III), Mn(II), Fe(III), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II) and Th(IV) have been prepared and characterized by elemental analyses, IR and (1)H-NMR spectroscopy, thermal and magnetic measurements. The results suggested that the Schiff base is a bivalent anion with hexadentate OONNSS donors derived from the etheric oxygen (O, O'), azomethine nitrogen (N, N') and thiophenolic sulphur (S, S'). The formulae of the complexes were found to be [ML]·xH(2)O (M=Mn(II) (x=0), Co(II) (x=1), Ni(II), (x=1), Cu(II) (x=2) and Zn(II) (x=0)) and [ML]·nCl (M=Cr(III) (n=1), Fe(III) (n=1) and Th(IV) (n=2)). The thermogravimetric analysis of the complexes shows metal oxide remaining as the final product at 700-1000 °C. Density functional theory at the B3LYP/6-31G(*) level of theory was used to investigate molecular geometry, Mulliken atomic charges and energetics. The synclinal-conformer was found to be responsible for complex formation. The calculation showed that ligand has weak field. Structural deformation and the dihedral angles rotation during complexation were investigated. The binding energy of each complex was calculated. The calculated results are in good agreement with experimental data.

Abstract
A new series of Cu (II), Ni (II), Co (II) and Zn (II) complexes have been synthesized from the Schiff base derived from 4-hydroxy-3-methoxybenzylidine-4-aminoantipyrine and 2-aminophenol. The structural features have been determined from their elemental analysis, magnetic susceptibility, molar conductance, Mass, IR, UV-Vis,1H-NMR,13C-NMR and ESR spectral studies. The redox behavior of the copper complex has been studied by cyclic voltammetry. The data confirm that the complexes have composition of ML2type. The electronic absorption spectral data of the complexes propose an octahedral geometry around the central metal ion. All the metal complexes with DNA structure were guided by the presence of inter-molecular C–HO and C–HN hydrogen bonds. The biological activity of the synthesized compounds were tested against the bacterial species such asBacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus, Proteus vulgarisand fungal species such asCandida albicansby thewell-diffusionmethod.

Abstract
The FT-IR and FT-Raman spectra of 5-amino-1-(4-bromophenyl)-3-phenyl-1-H-pyrazole have been measured in the regions 4000-400 cm(-1) and 3500-100 cm(-1), respectively. The equilibrium geometry, bonding features and harmonic vibrational frequencies have been carried out with the help of DFT method. The assignments of the vibrational spectra have been carried out with the normal coordinate analysis (NCA) following the scaled quantum mechanical force field methodology (SQMFF). The first-order hyperpolarizability (β(0)) and related properties (μ, α(0), and Δα) of 5A4BP3PP are calculated by using HF/6-31G(d,p) method on the finite field approach. Stability of the molecule arising from hyperconjugative interactions, charge delocalization have been analyzed using natural bonding orbital (NBO) analysis. The results show that electron density (ED) in the σ(*) and π(*) antibonding orbitals and second order delocalization energies E(2) confirms the occurrence of the intramolecular charge transfer (ICT) within the molecule. UV-vis spectrum of the compound was recorded and the electronic properties, such as HOMO and LUMO energies, were performed by TDDFT using 6-31G(d,p). The HOMO-LUMO calculations indicating the charge transfer takes place within the molecule.

Abstract
Mixed ligand complexes of Ni(II) with 1,10-phenanthroline (1,10-Phen) and Schiff bases L1(MIIMP); L2(CMIIMP); L3(EMIIMP); L4(MIIMNP); L5(MEMIIMP); L6(BMIIMP); L7(MMIIMP); L8(MIIBD) have been synthesized. These metal chelates have been characterized by elemental analysis, IR, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, Mass, UV-Vis, magnetic moments, and thermogravimetric (TG&DTA) analysis. Spectral data showed that the 1,10-phenanthroline act as neutral bidentate ligand coordinating to the metal ion through two nitrogen donor atoms and Schiff bases acts as monobasic bidentate coordinating through NO donor atoms. All Ni(II) complexes appear to have an octahedral geometry. The antimicrobial activity of mixed ligand complexes has been studied by screening against various microorganisms, it is observed that the activity enhances upon coordination. The DNA binding studies have been investigated by UV-Vis spectroscopy, and the experimental results indicate that these complexes bind to CT DNA with the intrinsic binding constant Kb = 2.5 ± 0.2 × 105 M−1. MTT is used to test the anticancer effect of the complexes with HL60 tumor cell. The inhibition ratio was accelerated by increasing the dosage, and it had significant positive correlation with the medication dosage.

Abstract
A new series of cobalt, nickel, copper, and zinc complexes of bidentate Schiff base derived from the condensation of 5-bromothiophene-2-carboxaldehyde with 4-amino-3-mercapto-6-methyl-5-oxo-[1,2,4]triazine were synthesized. Physical (magnetic measurements, molar conductance, TG), spectral (UV-Vis, IR, 1HNMR, fluorescence, ESR), and analytical data have established the structures of synthesized Schiff base and its metal complexes. The presence of coordinated water in metal complexes was confirmed by IR and TG studies. The Schiff base exhibits a strong fluorescence emission, contrast to this partial fluorescence quenching phenomena is observed in its metal complexes. A square planar geometry for Cu(II) and octahedral geometry for Co(II), Ni(II) and Zn(II) complexes have been proposed. The Schiff base and its metal complexes have been screened for antibacterial (Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa) and antifungal activities (Aspergillus niger, A. flavus).

Abstract
The complexes of tailor made ligands with life essential metal ions may be an emerging area to answer the problems of multi drug resistance. The coordination complexes of VO(II), Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II) with the Schiff bases derived from isatin with 3-chloro-4-floroaniline and 2-pyridinecarboxaldehyde with 4-aminoantipyrine have been synthesized by conventional as well as microwave methods. These compounds have been characterized by elemental analysis, molar conductance, electronic spectra, FT-IR, FAB mass and magnetic susceptibility measurements. FAB mass data show degradation of complexes. Both the ligands behave as bidentate and tridentate coordinating through O and N donor. The complexes exhibit coordination number 4, 5 or 6. The Schiff base and metal complexes show a good activity against the bacteria; Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli and Streptococcus fecalis and fungi Aspergillus niger, Trichoderma polysporum, Candida albicans and Aspergillus flavus. The antimicrobial results also indicate that the metal complexes are better antimicrobial agents as compared to the Schiff bases. The minimum inhibitory concentrations of the metal complexes were found in the range 10~40 µg/mL.
