Abstract
Soy sauce is a traditional fermented soy food for enhancing the umami taste in Asian cuisines. In this study, 16S rRNA gene throughput sequencing analysis showed the bacterial communities and the changes in soy sauce during fermentation. Weissella, Bacillus and Lactococcus were the most abundant at genus level. The uncultured bacterium Weissella and Lactococcus had relatively high abundance at species level. Alpha diversity analysis indicated the bacterial community diversity increased at fermentation initiation, while decreased as fermentation progressed. Based on beta-diversity analysis, four clusters including cluster I (time point A-F), cluster II (G,H), cluster III (I,J) and cluster IV(K) were distinctly separated, indicating the fermentation time significantly affected bacterial community diversity. Also, close associations were found between the bacterial communities in soy sauce and its amino acid nitrogen, organic acid and reducing sugar contents during fermentation. Therefore, it will provide important information for optimization of the soy sauce production process.

Abstract
This work describes an ultrasound-assisted dispersive solid-phase extraction method combined with reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography-photodiode array detection (UADSPE-RPLC-PDA) for the determination of nine common biogenic amines (BAs) in canned seafood. The pretreatment extraction solvent, ultrasonic treatment duration, and derivatization conditions were optimized. The method was validated on the basis of the limit of detection (LOD), limit of quantification (LOQ), precision, and accuracy and successfully applied to analyze four canned fish, two canned shrimp and four canned shellfish samples. LODs of 0.08-0.25 mg kg-1 were achieved, and the correlation coefficient of determination was 0.9994-0.9997. The method had high precision and accuracy, with relative standard deviations (RSDs) and recoveries of 0.44 to 6.83% and 72.57 to 99.74%, respectively, suggesting the effectiveness of ultrasound-assisted extraction at increasing the solubility of the target analytes in the solvent system and the feasibility of UADSPE-RPLC-PDA for determining trace BAs in canned seafood.

Abstract
The existing extraction and detection methods of bongkrekic acid (BKA) and isobongkrekic acid (IBKA) are complex, time-consuming and solvent-consuming. In this work, a simple and fast pre-concentration procedure based on Fe3O4/HNTs was developed for the determination of BKA and IBKA in rice noodles using HPLC-Orbitrap HRMS. The structure and morphology of Fe3O4/HNTs was characterized by means of XRD, SEM, FT-IR and VSM. Parameters affecting the extraction efficiency including adsorbent amount, pH, extraction time, type and volume of eluent were investigated by employing the response surface method. Results indicated that the proposed method had favorable linearity in the concentration range of 2-200 μg/L with a correlation coefficient >0.998. Method LOD and LOQ were 0.3 μg/kg and 1.0 μg/kg, respectively. Finally, the method was successfully applied to determine BKA and IBKA in rice noodle samples from southern China with recoveries ranging from 79.8% to 102.6% and relative standard deviation (RSD) of 4.2%-7.1%.

Dipsticks with Reflectometric Readout of an NIR Dye for Determination of Biogenic Amines. CHEMOSENSORS 2020. Abstract
Electrospun nanofibers (ENFs) are remarkable analytical tools for quantitative analysis since they are inexpensive, easily produced in uniform homogenous mats, and provide a high surface area-to-volume ratio. Taking advantage of these characteristics, a near-infrared (NIR)-dye was doped as chemosensor into ENFs of about 500 nm in diameter electrospun into 50 µm thick mats on indium tin oxide (ITO) supports. The mats were made of cellulose acetate (CA) and used as a sensor layer on optical dipsticks for the determination of biogenic amines (BAs) in food. The ENFs contained the chromogenic amine-reactive chameleon dye S0378 which is green and turns blue upon formation of a dye-BA conjugate. This SN1-reaction of the S0378 dye with various BAs was monitored by reflectance measurements at 635 nm where the intrinsic absorption of biological material is low. The difference of the reflectance before and after the reaction is proportional to BA levels from 0.04–1 mM. The LODs are in the range from 0.03–0.09 mM, concentrations that can induce food poisoning but are not recognized by the human nose. The calibration plots of histamine, putrescine, spermidine, and tyramine are very similar and suggesting the use of the dipsticks to monitor the total sample BA content. Furthermore, the dipsticks are selective to primary amines (both mono- and diamines) and show low interference towards most nucleophiles. A minute interference of proteins in real samples can be overcome by appropriate sample pretreatment. Hence, the ageing of seafood samples could be monitored via their total BA content which rose up to 21.7 ± 3.2 µmol/g over six days of storage. This demonstrates that optically doped NFs represent viable sensor and transducer materials for food analysis with dipsticks.

Abstract
A fluorometric method based on molecularly imprinted upconversion fluorescence test strip was developed for the determination of tyramine. It exploited the green fluorescence of upconversion nanoparticles (UCNPs) and the specific recognition property of molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs). UCNPs were attached to filter paper with glue, and MIPs were prepared via in situ polymerization on the surface of UCNPs by using tyramine as template, methacrylic acid as functional monomer, and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate as cross-linker. The green fluorescence of the test strip, with excitation/emission wavelength 980/550 nm, was enhanced by tyramine. The test strip was suitable for the determination of tyramine in the linear range 1.0-100.0 mg L-1, and a relatively low limit of detection (0.2 mg L-1) was achieved. The test strip also worked well for the quantitation of tyramine in spiked red wine and mature vinegar. Recoveries are ranged from 84.9 to 99.9%. The relative standard deviations are below 5.6%. Abstract
The alkaloid enantiomers are well-known to have different physiological and pharmacological effects, and to play an important role in enantioselectivity metabolism with enzymes catalysis in tobacco plants. Here, we developed an improved method for simultaneous and high-precision determination of the individual enantiomers of nornicotine, anatabine and anabasine in four tobacco matrices, based on an achiral gas chromatography-nitrogen phosphorus detector (GCNPD) with commonly available Rtx-200 column using (1S)-(-)-camphanic chloride derivatization. The method development consists of the optimization of extraction and derivatization, screening of achiral column, analysis of the fragmentation mechanisms and evaluation of matrix effect (ME). Under the optimized experimental conditions, the current method exhibited excellent detection capability for the alkaloid enantiomers, with coefficients of determination (R2) > 0.9989 and normality test of residuals P > 0.05 in linear regression parameters. The ME can be neglected for the camphanic derivatives. The limit of detection (LOD) and limit of quantitation (LOQ) ranged from 0.087 to 0.24 μg g - 1 and 0.29 to 0.81 μg g - 1, respectively. The recoveries and within-laboratory relative standard deviations (RSDR) were 94.3%~104.2% and 0.51%~3.89%, respectively. The developed method was successfully applied to determine the enantiomeric profiling of cultivars and curing processes. Tobacco cultivars had a significant impact on the nornicotine, anatabine, anabasine concentration and enantiomeric fraction (EF) of (R)-nornicotine, whereas the only significant change induced by the curing processes was an increase in the EF of (R)-anabasine.

Abstract
Egg yolks are a good source of folates. However, the method for analyzing the naturally occurring folates in egg yolks is complicated and time-consuming. In this study, a simplified pre-treatment method followed by validated HPLC-MS/MS was developed to determine native folates in eggs from laying hens treated with different amounts of folic acid. The modified enhanced matrix removal -lipid method to purify samples showed good performance in lipid elimination, reduction of steps and time savings. According to experimental analysis, yolks contained total folate amounts ranging from 147 to 760 μg/100 g when laying hens' diet was supplemented with folic acid from 0 to 10 mg/kg. Four folate vitamers were detected in egg yolks: 5-methyltetrahydrofolate accounted for 91-98% of total folates, whereas folic acid, 5-formyltetrahydrofolate and 10-formylfolic acid together accounted for 2-9%. Therefore, laying hens efficiently converted folic acid in feed into 5-methyltetrahydrofolate in eggs with little folic acid deposition.

Abstract
The eight biogenic amines (BA), which are histamine (HIS), tryptamine, putrescine, 2-phenylethylamine, cadaverine, tyramine, spermidine, and spermine, were determined in Chub Mackerel under different storage conditions after being freshly caught. The storage time and temperature were varied and the guts either present or removed. This study describes a reverse-phase high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with a fluorescence detector following precolumn derivation with dansyl chloride method for the determination of BA in in Chub Mackerel samples. HIS represented the highest content of BA regardless of the storage temperature and time. During a 24-hr period, the content of HIS reached its highest level of 6,466.63 mg/kg at the storage temperature of 30 °C, whereas it only reached 28.73 mg/kg in 24 hr when the storage temperature was 0 °C, which is way below the standard acceptable threshold level (400 mg/kg). The storage times for the content of HIS to exceed the standard threshold level for HIS at different storage temperatures of 0, 4, 10, 15, 20, and 25 °C were 12, 5, 4 days, 48, 36, 15, and 14 hr, respectively. However, these times were significantly shortened when the viscera was removed from freshly-caught fish before storage. This study not only provides data for monitoring the content of BA, especially HIS, to ensure the safe storage and consumption of freshly-caught Chub Mackerel, but also presents a cost-effective method to extend the storage time of freshly-caught Chub Mackerel. PRACTICAL APPLICATION: This study not only provides data for monitoring the content of BA, especially HIS, to ensure the safe storage and consumption of freshly-caught Chub Mackerel, but also presents a cost-effective method, which is gut-removal during storage, to extend the storage time of freshly-caught Chub Mackerel.

Abstract
Biogenic amines (BA) are chemical compounds formed in foods that contain protein, allowing the foods to undergo a bacterial degradation process. Biogenic amines are labeled as toxic food because its consumption exceeding the FDA regulation (50 mg/kg) can be harmful to humans. Some countries also have regulations that prohibit the consumption of biogenic amines in high concentrations, especially histamine. The chromatography methods generally applied by researchers are liquid chromatography (LC) and gas chromatography (GC), where the use of a derivatization reagent is necessary to increase their sensitivity. This review is based on past and present studies about biogenic amine detection related to food samples. The rationale of this study is also to provide data on the comparison of the analytical approaches between LC and GC methods. Furthermore, the various approaches of biogenic amine determination and the most applied analytical methods have been reviewed.

Abstract
Ultrahigh-performance liquid chromatography coupled to quadrupole Orbitrap high-resolution mass spectrometry (UHPLC-Q-Orbitrap-HRMS) was used for the screening and determination of 14 heterocyclic aromatic amines (HAAs) in Chinese traditional bacon and sausage. HAAs were extracted from samples using sodium hydroxide solution with acetonitrile, and purified by solid-phase extraction. UHPLC-Q-Orbitrap-HRMS acquired full MS data for quantification, and UHPLC-Q-Orbitrap-Full MS/dd-MS2 (i.e., data-dependent scan mode) obtained product ion spectra for identification. Quantification was achieved using matrix-matched standard calibration curves along with the use of isotope labeled standards as internal standards. Linearity was observed in the range of 0.2-500 μg/L for 14 HAAs, with determination coefficients (R2) greater than 0.997. Limits of detection and limits of quantification were in the ranges of 0.1-0.8 μg/kg and 0.3-2.5 μg/kg, respectively. UHPLC-Q-Orbitrap-HRMS demonstrated acceptable performance for quantification and confirmation of HAAs, while UHPLC-Q-Orbitrap-Full MS/dd-MS2 along with library matching showed great potential for screening and confirmation of unknown HAAs in meat products.

Abstract
A graphene aerogel (GA) with a three-dimensional (3D) structure, ultra-lightweight nature, and high hydrophobicity was simply fabricated by the one-step pyrolysis of glucose and ammonium chloride. The as-synthesized GA exhibited a 3D interconnected microporous architecture with a high surface area of ∼2860 m2 g-1 and pore volume of 2.24 cm3 g-1. The hydrophobic GA (10 mg 100 mL-1) demonstrated rapid and excellent adsorption performance for the removal of food toxins such as various biogenic amines (histamine, cadaverine, and spermine) and the hazardous bacterium Staphylococcus aureus (a food contaminant and a cause of poor wound healing) from a liquid matrix with a maximum simultaneous adsorption capacity for multiple biogenic amines of >85.19% (histamine), 74.1% (cadaverine), and 70.11% (spermidine) and a 100% reduction in the viable cell count of S. aureus within 80 min of interaction. The outstanding adsorption capacity can be attributed to a highly interconnected porous network in the 3D architecture and a high surface-to-volume ratio. A case study using soy sauce spiked with multiple biogenic amines showed successful removal of toxins with excellent recyclability without any loss in absorption performance. Biocompatibility of the GA in terms of cell viability was observed even at high concentrations (83.46% and 75.28% at 25 and 50 mg mL-1, respectively). Confirmatory biocompatibility testing was conducted via live/dead cell evaluation, and the morphology of normal lung epithelial cells was examined via scanning electron microscopy showed no cellular shrinkage. Moreover, GA showed excellent removal of live colonies of S. aureus from the food matrix and immunoblotting analysis showed elevated protein expression levels of β-catenin and α-SMA (α-smooth muscle actin). The biocompatible sugar-based GA could simultaneously adsorb multiple biogenic amines and live bacteria and was easy to regenerate via simple separation due to its high floatability, hydrophobicity, surface area, and porosity without any structural and functional loss, making it especially relevant for food safety and biomedical applications.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to develop and validate an improved, simple, and sensitive method for the simultaneous determination of seven types (cadaverine, CAD; hexylamine, HEX; histamine, HIS; phenylethylamine, PEA; putrescine, PUT; tyramine, TYR) of biogenic amines (BAs) in wine matrices. For this reason, a modified QuEChERS combined with ultra-performance liquid chromatography coupled to a triple quadrupole mass spectrometry (UHPLC-QqQ-MS/MS) method was investigated. The optimization of UHPLC-QqQ-MS/MS separation and QuEChERS procedure was performed. Under optimum conditions, the excellent chromatographic performance of the whole separation was accomplished within 6.3 min analyzing time. Meanwhile, the recoveries ranged from 77.2% to 101.7%, while relative standard deviation (RSD) remained between 0.0% and 9.4%. The limit of detection (LOD, 0.50–1.00 µg/L) and the limit of quantification (LOQ, 1.65–3.30 µg/L) were lower than those permitted by legislation in food matrices, which demonstrated the high sensitivity and applicability of this efficient method. This validated method was also applied in a pilot study to analyze BAs in 81 wine samples from Hexi Corridor Region (Gansu Province, Northwest China), CAD, HEX, HIS, PEA, PUT, and TYR were detected to varying degrees in the samples. However, when compared with the existing standards, the BAs in all 81 wine samples did not exceed the prescribed limit value or toxic dose (2–40 mg/L). Moreover, a statistical approach was also conducted using Pearson correlation analysis, and to evaluate their concentrations in terms of wine parameters (storage time, grape variety, wine type, and basic physicochemical index). The results showed that, among the seven kinds of BAs, the concentration of HIS had a certain correlation with alcoholic degree and grape variety. In addition, the level of PEA had a certain correlation with the wine pH and wine storage time. It is worth noting that this seems to be the first report regarding the application of QuEChERS-UHPLC-QqQ-MS/MS in the analysis of BAs in wine in this region.

Abstract
The evolution in foodstuff-monitoring processes has increased the number of studies on biogenic amines (BAs), in recent years. This trend with future perspective needs to be assembled to address the associated health risks. Thus, this study aims to cover three main aspects of BAs: (i) occurrence, physiology, and toxicological effects, most probable formation mechanisms and factors controlling their growth; (ii) recent advances, strategies for determination, preconcentration steps, model technique, and nature of the matrix; and (iii) milestone, limitations with existing methodologies, future trends, and detailed expected developments for clinical use and on-site ultra-trace determination. The core of the ongoing review will discuss recent trends in pre-concentration toward miniaturization, automation, and possible coupling with electrochemical techniques, surface-enhanced Raman scattering, spectrofluorimetry, and lateral flow protocols to be exploited for the development of rapid, facile, and sensitive on-site determination strategies for BAs.

Abstract
A high concentration of biogenic amines have been reported to be hazardous for human health. This article is an analytical report on one lot to identify the changes of biogenic amines in each period of soy sauce brewing and clarify the key control point for biogenic amine production. The content of putrescine, cadaverine, spermidine, spermine, tryptamine, phenylethylamine, histamine, serotonin, tyramine, and agmatine was detected in the koji-making and fermenting process. The content of putrescine increased from 27.11 ± 1.05 to 185.86 ± 1.18 mg/kg in the koji-making process, indicating that putrescine is the main biogenic amine produced by microbes in this period. The content of tryptamine increased to the highest value of 581.77 ± 36.38 mg/L on day 24 of the fermenting process and then decreased rapidly to 81.98 ± 0.20 mg/L at the end (day 122). In addition, histamine and tyramine reached the highest values (486.91 ± 24.67 and 180.84 ± 2.32 mg/L, respectively) after 52 days of fermentation, followed by a decrease to 287.24 ± 15.00 and 144.67 ± 3.61 mg/L, respectively, at the end of the fermenting process. The samples were further characterized by the analysis of other indices, including the content of water, salt, soluble saltless solids, crude fat, total acid, amino acid nitrogen, total nitrogen, and ammonium salt. The content of soluble saltless solids decreased from 9.28 ± 0.16 to 5.30 ± 1.40 g/100 g during the first 38 days of fermentation, followed by an increase to 14.68 ± 1.12 g/100 g during the last 84 days. The content of total acid, crude fat, amino acid nitrogen, total nitrogen, and ammonium salt all increased rapidly in the early stage of the fermenting process and then slowed down.

Abstract
Sesame is a nutritional agricultural product with medicinal properties. Accurate determination of micronutrients is important for the improvement of sesame quality and nutrition assessments. Our previous study showed that 10 antioxidants—d-homoproline, vitamin B2, coniferyl aldehyde, hesperidin, phloretin, N-acetyl-l-leucine, l-hyoscyamine, ferulic acid, 5-methoxypsoralen, and 8-methoxypsoralen—in sesame were potential characteristic nutrients in sesame. Herein, simultaneous detection of 10 different types of antioxidants was developed by using ultrasound-assisted extraction coupled with liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UAE-LC-MS/MS) with the help of response surface methodology. The significant variables and levels were screened and optimized by combining the single factor experiment, Plackett–Burman test, and Box–Behnken design. The optimal conditions for extraction of target antioxidants in sesame were methanol solution of 75.0%, liquid-to-material ratio of 20:1 (mL/g), extraction temperature of 50 °C, extraction power of 410.0 W, extraction time of 65 min. The total yield of targets was 21.74 μg/g under the optimized conditions. The mobile phase used was 0.1% formic acid in acetonitrile and 0.1% formic acid in water, and the column was a Thermo Syncronis C18 reverse phase column (100 mm × 2.1 mm, 3 μm). All targets required only one injection and could be quickly separated and assayed within 7 min. The limits of detection and limits of quantification for these 10 nutritional compounds ranged from 0.01 to 0.11 µg/kg and from 0.04 to 0.34 µg/kg, respectively. The validation results indicated that the method had reasonable linearity (R2 ≥ 0.9990), good recoveries (71.1%–118.3%), satisfactory intra-day precision (≤9.6%) and inter-day precision (≤12.9%), and negligible matrix effects (≤13.8%). This simultaneous quantification method was accurate, fast, and robust for the assessment of sesame nutrition.

Abstract
Spermine contamination ranks as one of the food safety issues, it will cause some adverse reactions if the intake of spermine is excessive in human body. So it is of great significance to establish fast and efficient analysis method to detect spermine in foods. In this study, the spermine aptamers with high affinity and specificity were obtained by the capture systematic evolution of ligands by exponential enrichment (Capture-SELEX) technique. Forty-one aptamer sequences were obtained by cloning and sequencing, and were divided into eight families based on homology and secondary structure analysis. The affinity and specificity of candidate aptamers was analyzed by isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC) and fluorescence assay. The aptamers named APJ-6 was picked out as the optimal aptamer that recognizes spermine specifically with the Kd value of 9.648 ± 0.896 nM. In order to verify the practicability of the selected aptamers, the sensitive aptamer-based fluorescene assay was designed. Under optimized conditions, this aptasensor exhibited a low detection limit of 0.052 nM, as well as a linear within the range of 0.1-20 nM. Besides, it has been further applied for the determination of spermine in pork samples and the recoveries ranged from 86.45% to 98.15%, showing its great potential for sensitive analysis in food safety control.

Abstract
The presence of biogenic amines, such as histamine and tyramine, in pickled food can cause health problems, such as allergies. However, other bioactive amines may be present and can induce some diseases. Some biogenic amines can react with nitrate and form nitrosamines, compounds harmful to human health. In this research, we qualitatively and quantitatively evaluated some biogenic amines and nitrate content in jurubeba preserved in oil or vinegar. The fruits were obtained from cultivated plants, or wild plants, or they were purchased from market. Jurubeba fruit was analyzed raw and after cooking. After thermal processing, the fruits were preserved in soybean oil or vinegar and were evaluated after 1 h and at 30, 60 and 90 days of storage. Variations in the contents of biogenic amine were found depending on the place from which the fruits were obtained, as well as depending on the type of preservative and time of storage. The nitrate levels did not exceed the established limits, mainly when preserved in vinegar, which also showed the lowest levels of biogenic amines.

Abstract
This study presents a general bibliometric overview of the major scientific developments that have been published in Food Chemistry, since its first issue (1976). The bibliometric data were retrieved from the scopus database. The review identifies the most cited, productive authors, and the leading institutions and countries of the journal, based on bibliometric indicators. The research hot spots in the period from 1976 to 2016 were identified by using the visualization of similarities software (Vosviewer), and the graphical mapping of the authors was developed to visualize networks between authors. A total of 20,050 publications was analysed and the most influential subjects covered by the journal were identified. Topics related to the antioxidant components of foods and the analytical quantification of contaminants or components of food were identified as being most relevant.The bibliometric analyses indicate a significant evolution of the journal in terms of publications, scientometric performance and themes covered.

Abstract
Soy sauce contains a series of biogenic amines (BAs) which is a kind of bioactive organics relating to food quality and safety. High concentration of BAs may lead to remarkable physiological and toxicological influences on human bodies, including hypotension, dizziness, and headaches. Here, we systematically compared the levels of ten main BAs among 53 Chinese commercial soy sauces using an improved high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method. The results showed that the brands and production regions were both important factors accounting for the BAs’ content. The contents of Cad, Spm, Try, Phe, His, and Tyr in dark soy sauces were higher than those in light soy sauces. His and Phe in dark soy sauces were 3.7 and 1.84 times higher than in light samples, respectively. Besides, it was surprising that the content of BAs in soy sauces hugely varied from place to place. This work comprehensively compared the content of BAs in soy sauces, showing the relation between soy sauce processes and BAs, offering abundant information for further research on BAs control.

Abstract
To effectively extract biogenic amines (BAs) from complex food matrices is an important issue. In this study, a stop-and-go-extraction tip (StageTip)-based method for simultaneous enrichment of six BAs including histamine, tyramine, putrescine, cadaverine, tryptamine, and β-phenylethylamine in fish samples was developed and optimized. This StageTip-based BAs extraction method required short extraction time, small sample size, and minimal consumption of organic solvents. In addition, an ultrahigh-performance liquid chromatography coupled with triple quadrupole mass spectrometer was used to identify and quantify BAs without derivatization. Target recovery efficiencies of BAs from spiked fish samples ranged from 84% to 110%. Linear regression models were established to determine BAs in the range of 0.4 to 3.0 mg/L (R2 > 0.995). Good repeatability was obtained with relative standard deviation of peak areas (1.17 to 5.61%) and retention time (0.09 to 0.20%). High sensitivity was achieved for the detection of six BAs (0.064 to 1.00 ng/L for the limit of detection, 0.10 to 5 ng/L for the limit of quantification). The proposed method had an obvious advantage in the analysis of BAs in complex food matrices such as fish tissues since it could reflect the subtle distribution of BAs from one fish fillet. PRACTICAL APPLICATION: A StageTip-based BAs enrichment combined with UPLC-MS analysis method was developed and optimized, which was low-cost, environmentally friendly, and with good analytical performances. As such, it has the potential to become a powerful tool for the analysis of BAs in different complex food matrices.

Abstract
The Quick, Easy, Cheap, Effective, Rugged and Safe (QuEChERS) method is a simple and straightforward extraction technique involving an initial partitioning followed by an extract clean-up using dispersive solid-phase extraction (d-SPE). Originally, the QuEChERS approach was developed for recovering pesticide residues from fruits and vegetables, but rapidly gained popularity in the comprehensive isolation of analytes from different matrices. According to PubMed, since its development in 2003 up to November 2018, about 1360 papers have been published reporting QuEChERS as extraction method. Several papers have reported different improvements and modifications to the original QuEChERS protocol to ensure more efficient extractions of pH-dependent analytes and to minimize the degradation of labile analytes. This analytical approach shows several advantages over traditional extraction techniques, requiring low sample and solvent volumes, as well as less time for sample preparation. Furthermore, most of the published studies show that the QuEChERS protocol provides higher recovery rate and a better analytical performance than conventional extraction procedures. This review proposes an updated overview of the most recent developments and applications of QuEChERS beyond its original application to pesticides, mycotoxins, veterinary drugs and pharmaceuticals, forensic analysis, drugs of abuse and environmental contaminants. Their pros and cons will be discussed, considering the factors influencing the extraction efficiency. Whenever possible, the performance of the QuEChERS is compared to other extraction approaches. In addition to the evolution of this technique, changes and improvements to the original method are discussed.

Abstract
A high-performance liquid chromatography-diode array-mass spectrometric (LC-DAD-MS) method was developed and validated to investigate the related substances of olaparib (OLA) in bulk form. OLA was exposed to acid–base hydrolysis, boiling, oxidation with hydrogen peroxide, and UV light followed by LC-DAD-MS analysis. OLA and OLA-related substances were simultaneously and quantitatively monitored by DAD at 278 nm and triple quadrupole mass spectrometry (QQQ-MS). The investigated compounds were auto-scanned by an ion trap MS which applied positive and negative modes separately. The fragmentation pathway was confirmed by applying multi-steps fragmentation to identify the resulted cleaved ions and their parent ion. OLA was found to be sensitive to the alkaline hydrolysis and less sensitive to UV light. Two major hydrolytic degradation products, including the protonated molar ions m/z 299 and m/z 367, were identified. Three potential impurities were also characterized. The LC-MS limit of detection (LOD) and limit of quantification (LOQ) were 0.01 and 0.05 ng/µL, respectively. The quantitative results obtained by LC-DAD was comparable with that of LC-QQQ-MS. The proposed method shows good intra-day and inter-day precision with relative standard deviation (RSD) <2%.

Abstract
In this study, a simple analytical method for the determination of γ-aminobutyric acid, gabapentin, and baclofen by using high-performance liquid chromatography with fluorescence detection was developed. An amidogen-reactive fluorescence labeling reagent, 4-(carbazole-9-yl)-benzyl chloroformate was first used to sensitively label these analytes. The completed labeling of these analytes can be finished rapidly only within 5 min at the room temperature (25°C) to form 4-(carbazole-9-yl)-benzyl chloroformate labeled fluorescence derivatives. These labeled derivatives expressed strong fluorescence property with the maximum excitation and emission wavelengths of 280 and 380 nm, respectively. The labeled derivatives were analyzed using a reversed-phase Eclipse SB-C18 column within 10 min with satisfactory shapes. Excellent linearity (R2 > 0.995) for all analytes was achieved with the limits of detection and the limits of quantitation in the range of 0.25-0.35 and 0.70-1.10 μg/L, respectively. The proposed method was used for the simultaneous determination of γ-aminobutyric acid and its analogs in human serum with satisfactory recoveries in the range of 94.5-97.5%.

Abstract
Based on QuEChERS dispersed purification, Fe3O4 nanoparticle decoloration and UHPLC-MS/MS, a robust and sensitive method was established for simultaneous analysis of 14 heterocyclic aromatic amines (HAAs) and acrylamide (AA) in coffee products. Sample was extracted by 90% acetonitrile water (v/v), dispersed with primary secondary amine (PSA) and further purified with Fe3O4 nanoparticle. Then, 15 analytes were detected using ESI positive ion under MRM mode. Good linearity was observed for all analytes in the range of 0.2-100 μg/L with the determination coefficients being above 0.996. Limits of detection (S/N ≥ 3) and limits of quantification (S/N ≥ 10) were in the range of 0.02-0.15 µg/L and 0.2-0.7 µg/L, respectively. The intra-day average recoveries were between 81.6% and 100%, and the intra-day precisions ranged from 4.3% to 9.0%. The inter-day average recoveries were in the range of 81.0-101% with precisions ranging from 5.0% to 7.8%. Results indicated that the combination of PSA and Fe3O4 exhibited superior purification and adsorption effects for removing pigments and acid compounds. Real samples analysis indicated that coffee products were widely contaminated with AA, harman and norharman.
