Abstract
While research on lanthanide (Ln) complexes with silyl ligands is receiving growing attention, significantly unbalanced efforts have been devoted to different Ln elements. In comparison with the intense investigations on Ln elements such as Sm and Yb, the chemistry of silyl lanthanum and cerium complexes is much slower to develop, and no solid-state structure of a silyl lanthanum complex has been reported so far. In this research, four types of ate complexes, including [(DME)3Li][Cp3LnSi(H)Mes2], [(18-crown-6)K][Cp3LnSi(CH3)Ph2], [(DME)3Li][Cp3LnSiPh3], and [(12-crown-4)2Na] [Cp3LnSi(Ph)2Si(H)Ph2] (Ln = La, Ce), were synthesized by reacting [(DME)3Na][Cp3La(μ-Cl)LaCp3] or Cp3Ce(THF) with alkali metal silanides. All of the synthesized silyl Ln ate complexes were structurally characterized. La-Si bond lengths are in a range of 3.1733(4)-3.1897(10) Å, and the calculated formal shortness ratios of the La-Si bonds (1.071.08) are comparable to those in the reported silyl complexes having other Ln metal centers. The Ce-Si bond lengths (3.1415(6)-3.1705(9) Å) are within the typical range of reported silyl cerium ate complexes. 29Si solid-state NMR measurements on the diamagnetic silyl lanthanum complexes were conducted, and large one-bond hyperfine splitting constants arising from = 7/2) were resolved. Computational studies on these silyl lanthanum and cerium complexes suggested the polarized covalent feature of the Ln-Si bonds, which is in line with the measured large 1J139La-Si splitting constants.

Abstract
Bond activation reactions using main group metal complexes are gaining increasing interest. We report on reactions of LGa (L = HC[C(Me)N(Ar)]2, Ar = Dipp = 2,6-i-Pr2C6H3,) with heteroleptic tetrylenes L'ECl (E = Ge, Sn; L' = N(SiMe3)Ar), yielding the donor-acceptor complex LGa-Sn(Cl)L' (1) or the oxidative addition product L(Cl)GaGeL' (3). The reaction with DMPGeCl (DMP = 2,6-Mes2C6H3, Mes = 2,4,6-Me3C6H2) yielded LGa(μ-Cl)GeDMP (2), which represents an intermediate of the oxidative addition reaction. 1-3 were characterized by NMR and IR spectroscopy as well as by single crystal X-ray diffraction (sc-XRD), while their electronic nature was analyzed by quantum chemical calculations.

Abstract
Two new ternary compounds, Eu10Mn6Bi12 and Yb10Zn6Sb12, were synthesized and structurally characterized. The synthesis was achieved either through reactions in sealed niobium tubes or in alumina crucibles by combining the elements in excess molten Sb. Their structures were elucidated using single-crystal X-ray diffraction, and they were determined to crystallize in the orthorhombic space group Cmmm (no. 65) with the Eu10Cd6Bi12 structure type. Akin to the archetype phase, both Mn and Zn sites contain about 25% of vacancies. The anionic substructure of the title phases can be described as [M6Pn12] (M = Zn, Mn; Pn = Sb, Bi) double layers composed of the corner and edge-sharing [MPn4] tetrahedra, linked by [Pn2]4- dumbbells. Eu2+/Yb2+ cations fill the space between the layers, with the valence electron counts adhering closely to the Zintl-Klemm rules, i.e., both Eu10Mn6Bi12 and Yb10Zn6Sb12 are expected to be valence-precise compounds. Analysis of the electronic structure and transport properties of Yb10Zn6Sb12 indicate semimetallic behavior with relatively low Seebeck coefficient and resistivity that slightly decreases as a function of temperature.

Abstract
Herein, we report access to phosphinoborinium cations via heterolytic cleavage of the boron-bromide bond in bromophosphinoborane. The product of the reaction was isolated as a dimeric dication possessing a planar B2P2 core. Activation of the C-H and C-P bonds in the dication led to the formation of the borinium-phosphaborene adduct. Reactivity studies revealed that the title cation exhibits ambiphilic properties and intramolecular frustrated Lewis pair features.

Abstract
The bridging MeCN ligand in the dicopper(I) complexes [(DPFN)Cu2 (μ,η1 : η1 -MeCN)][X]2 (X=weakly coordinating anion, NTf2 (1 a), FAl[OC6 F10 (C6 F5 )]3 (1 b), Al[OC(CF3 )3 ]4 (1 c)) was replaced by white phosphorus (P4 ) or yellow arsenic (As4 ) to yield [(DPFN)Cu2 (μ,η2 : η2 -E4 )][X]2 (E=P (2 a-c), As (3 a-c)). The molecular structures in the solid state reveal novel coordination modes for E4 tetrahedra bonded to coinage metal ions. Experimental data and quantum chemical computations provide information concerning perturbations to the bonding in coordinated E4 tetrahedra. Reactions with N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) led to replacement of the E4 tetrahedra with release of P4 or As4 and formation of [(DPFN)Cu2 (μ,η1 : η1 -Me NHC)][X]2 (4 a,b) or to an opening of one E-E bond leading to an unusual E4 butterfly structural motif in [(DPFN)Cu2 (μ,η1 : η1 -E4 Dipp NHC)][X]2 (E=P (5 a,b), E=As (6)). With a cyclic alkyl amino carbene (Et CAAC), cleavage of two As-As bonds was observed to give two isomers of [(DPFN)Cu2 (μ,η2 : η2 -As4 Et CAAC)][X]2 (7 a,b) with an unusual As4 -triangle+1 unit.

Abstract
Cyclic alkyl(amino) carbene (cAAC)-anchored boryl- and stibanyl-phosphaalkenes with general formula cAAC = P-ER2 [E = B, R = (NiPr2)2 (3a-c); E = Sb, R = 2,4,6-triisopropylphenyl (5a-b)] have been synthesized and utilized as precursors for the bis-phosphaalkenyl dichlorogermane [(cAAC = P)2GeCl2] (6) and the first molecular example of a neutral polymeric mixed-valence AgI/AgII phosphinidenide complex [(cAACP)2Ag4IAgIICl4]n (7). All compounds have been characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction and further investigated by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR), mass spectrometric analysis, and UV-vis/fluorescence measurements. The paramagnetic complex 7 has been characterized by ESR spectroscopy. Cyclic voltammetry studies of compounds 3/5 have suggested possible one-electron quasi-reversible reductions, indicating their redox noninnocent behavior in solution. Quantum chemical studies revealed the electron-sharing nature of the P-B and P-Sb σ bonds in compounds 3 and 5, and the polar CcAAC = P bonds in compounds 3, 5, and 6 prevailing their phosphaalkene structures over phosphinidenes.

Abstract
We report a series of heterobimetallic Pt/Zn and Pt/Ca complexes to study the effect of proximity of a dicationic base metal on the organometallic Pt species. Varying degrees of Pt⋅⋅⋅Zn and Zn interaction with the bridging Me group are achieved, showcasing snapshots of a hypothetical process of retrotransmetalation from Pt to Zn. In contrast, only weak interactions were observed for Ca with a Pt-bound Me group. Activation of H2 , B-H and Si-H bonds leads to the formation of hydride-bridged Pt-H-Zn complexes, which is not observed in the absence of Zn, pointing out the importance of metal-metal cooperation. Reactivity of PtMe2 /M2+ with terminal acetylene, water and methanol is also studied, leading to facile protonation of one of the Me groups at the Pt center only when Zn is present. This study sheds light on various ways in which the presence of a 2+ metal cation significantly affects the reactivity of a common organoplatinum complex.

Abstract
The structures, chemical bonding, and magnetic properties of MnGe3O-/0 and MnGe4O-/0 are investigated by photoelectron spectroscopy and ab initio calculations. The experimental vertical electron detachment energies of MnGe3O- and MnGe4O- are measured to be 2.06 ± 0.04 and 2.64 ± 0.04 eV, respectively. The structures of MnGe3O-/0 and MnGe4O-/0 can be viewed as evolved from quadrilateral MnGe3 or tetrahedral MnGe3. It is found that both MnGe3O- and MnGe3O have Cs symmetric planar structures with an O atom attached to quadrilateral MnGe3. The structure of MnGe4O- is nonplanar with an O atom and an additional Ge atom attached to tetrahedral MnGe3, while that of MnGe4O is planar with an O atom and an additional Ge atom attached to quadrilateral MnGe3. Chemical bonding analyses reveal the existence of Ge═O double bonds in MnGe3O and MnGe4O. Magnetic property analyses suggest that MnGe3O and MnGe4O are ferromagnetic with total spin magnetic moments of 5 μB.

Abstract
The search is on for stable isolated borylenes. Potential roles in modern synthetic chemistry for boron analogues of carbenes continue to motivate interest in locating them. Using density functional and ab initio methods, we posit and examine the thermochemistry, and chemical bonding, including aromaticity, of several classes of 5- and 6-membered borylenic rings. In these systems, cyclization relies on dative bonding (ouroboric coordination) and π donation to a monovalent boron center from an adjacent O center. Certain neutral five-membered rings (heterocyclic cyclopentadienyl analogues) in particular are found to exhibit exceptionally strong preferences for the singlet multiplicity, each with singlet-triplet (S-T) gaps in excess of 40 kcal·mol-1. The singlet five-membered rings with the largest S-T gaps and some of the six-membered rings show evidence of weak aromaticity. Relationships of the form N = A·r-b, in line with Gordy's and other functions linking bond order, N, and covalent bond length, are identified for dative B←O contacts, r, reinforced in rings by π-delocalization.

Abstract
While a series of trinuclear rare-earth metal methylene (divalent >CH2) complexes with the so-called "ionic carbene" have been known for decades, the nature of metal-carbene interactions in this class of compounds remains elusive. Herein, a quantum chemical investigation has been performed to reveal the bonding nature in typical trimetallic "ionic carbene" species with the [M3(μ3-CH2)] (M = Sc, Y, La, and Ac) cluster core. Through various chemical bonding analyses, we have demonstrated that there exists a non-negligible covalent interaction between μ3-CH2 and M3 moieties, and the chemical bonding can be accounted for with two three-center two-electron (3c-2e) bonds. The chemical bonding analyses reveal that the metal d-electron configuration plays an important role in stabilizing various μ3-coordinated carbene complexes. The late transition metals do not favor such a μ3-coordination geometry, thus explaining why ionic carbene complexes are usually found for rare-earth and early transition metals. A series of ionic carbene complexes with early transition metals, lanthanides, and actinides are predicted to be stable as well. These reactive ionic carbene complexes may have characteristic properties for organic synthesis and catalysis.

Abstract
Investigations of the interactions of uranium trioxide (UO3) with other species are expected to provide a new perspective on its reaction and bonding behaviors. Herein, we present a combined matrix-isolation infrared spectroscopy and theoretical study of the geometries, vibrational frequencies, electronic structures, and bonding patterns for a series of dinitrogen (N2) complexes with UO3 moieties UO3(η1-NN)1-4. The complexes are prepared by reactions of laser-ablated uranium atoms with O2/N2 mixtures or laser-ablated UO3 molecules with N2 in solid argon. UO3(η1-NN)1-4 are classified as "nonclassical" metal-N2 complexes with increased Δν(N2) values according to the experimental observations and the computed blue-shifts of N-N stretching frequencies and N-N bond length contractions. Electronic structure analysis suggests that UO3(η1-NN)1-4 are σ-only complexes with a total lack of π-back-donation. The energy decomposition analysis combined with natural orbitals for chemical valence calculations reveal that the bonding between the UO3 moiety and N2 ligands in UO3(η1-NN)1-4 arises from the roughly equal electrostatic attractions and orbital mixings. The inspection of orbital interactions from pairwise contributions indicates that the strongest orbital stabilization comes from the σ-donations of the 4σ*- and 5σ-based ligand molecular orbitals (MOs) into the hybrid 7s/6dx2-y2 MO of the U center. The electron polarization induced by electrostatic effects in the Ninner ← Nouter direction provides complementary contributions to the orbital stabilization in UO3(η1-NN)1-4. In addition, the reactions of UO3 with N2 ligands and the origination of the nonclassical behavior in UO3(η1-NN)1-4 are discussed.

Abstract
The coordination mode of the BH4- ligand in transition metal tetrahydroborate complexes is mainly dominated by the nature of the metal centres. However, other factors can also play important roles sometimes. In order to rationalize the coordination modes and the stability of the BH4- ligand in group 10 metal tetrahydroborate pincer complexes, [2,6-(tBu2PO)2C6H3]Pt(η1-HBH3) and [C6H4-o-(NCH2PtBu2)2B]M(η2-H2BH2) (M = Ni, Pt) were prepared and characterized. A structural comparison of [2,6-(tBu2PCH2)2C6H3]Ni(BH4), [2,6-(tBu2PO)2C6H3]M(BH4) and [C6H4-o-(NCH2PtBu2)2B]M(BH4) (M = Ni, Pd, and Pt) indicates that the M-P bond length, the P-M-P bite angle and the trans-influence of the central atom in the pincer platform also affect the coordination mode of the BH4- ligand. The nickel complexes tend to adopt a monodentate coordination mode while the palladium and platinum complexes can adopt either the monodentate or the bidentate mode depending on the structural features of the pincer platforms. Longer M-P bonds and smaller P-M-P bite angles favour the bidentate mode. The stability of the BH4- ligand is influenced by both the coordination mode and the nature of the metal centre. The BH3 species is released more easily from complexes with less electron rich metal centres. Following the series of Ni, Pd, and Pt, complexes with the same pincer ligand more easily lose a BH3 moiety.

Abstract
The reactions of alkaline-earth metal atoms (Ca, Sr, and Ba) with carbon dioxide are investigated using matrix isolation infrared spectroscopy in solid neon. The ground-state metal atoms react with two carbon dioxide molecules to produce the oxalate complexes MC2O4 and the carbonate-carbonyl complexes OCMCO3 (M = Ca, Sr, Ba) spontaneously on annealing. The species are identified by the effects of isotopic substitution on their infrared spectra as well as density functional calculations. Bonding analyses reveal that the attractive forces between M2+ and (CO3)2- or (C2O4)2- in the OCMCO3 and MC2O4 complexes come mainly from electrostatic attraction, but covalent orbital interactions also play an important role, which are dominated by the ligand-to-metal donation bonding. The calcium, strontium, and barium metal centers in these complexes use their ns and predominately (n - 1)d atomic orbitals for covalent bonding that mimic transition metals.

Abstract
The activation of C-Br bonds in various bromoalkanes by the biradical [⋅P(μ-NTer)2 P⋅] (1) (Ter=2,6-bis-(2,4,6-trimethylphenyl)-phenyl) is reported, yielding trans-addition products of the type [Br-P(μ-NTer)2 P-R] (2), so-called 1,3-substituted cyclo-1,3-diphospha-2,4-diazanes. This addition reaction, which represents a new easy approach to asymmetrically substituted cyclo-1,3-diphospha-2,4-diazanes, was investigated mechanistically by different spectroscopic methods (NMR, EPR, IR, Raman); the results suggested a stepwise radical reaction mechanism, as evidenced by the in-situ detection of the phosphorus-centered monoradical [⋅P(μ-NTer)2 P-R].< To provide further evidence for the radical mechanism, [⋅P(μ-NTer)2 P-Et] (3Et⋅) was synthesized directly by reduction of the bromoethane addition product [Br-P(μ-NTer)2 P-Et] (2 a) with magnesium, resulting in the formation of the persistent phosphorus-centered monoradical [⋅P(μ-NTer)2 P-Et], which could be isolated and fully characterized, including single-crystal X-ray diffraction. Comparison of the EPR spectrum of the radical intermediate in the addition reaction with that of the synthesized new [⋅P(μ-NTer)2 P-Et] radical clearly proves the existence of radicals over the course of the reaction of biradical [⋅P(μ-NTer)2 P⋅] (1) with bromoethane. Extensive DFT and coupled cluster calculations corroborate the experimental data for a radical mechanism in the reaction of biradical [⋅P(μ-NTer)2 P⋅] with EtBr. In the field of hetero-cyclobutane-1,3-diyls, the demonstration of a stepwise radical reaction represents a new aspect and closes the gap between P-centered biradicals and P-centered monoradicals in terms of radical reactivity.

Abstract
The synthesis and structure of lithium, magnesium, and zinc complexes N,N'-chelated by a hybrid amine-amido ligand ([2-(Me2NCH2)C6H4NR]-, abbreviated as LNR, where R = H, SiMe3, or Bn) are reported. The reaction of the least sterically demanding LNH with various magnesium sources gives the hexameric imide [LNMg]6 (4) by the elimination of n-butane from LNHMgnBu (2) or by the reaction of LNHLi (1) with MeMgBr. [LNH]2Mg (3) is obtained through the addition of 0.5 equiv of nBu2Mg or Mg[N(SiMe3)2]2 to LNH2 and with 1 equiv of nBu2Mg reacting to 2. Both LNHMgN(SiMe3)2 (6) and isostructural LNHZnN(SiMe3)2 (16) have been prepared using two different approaches: monodeprotonation of LNH2 by Zn/Mg[N(SiMe3)2]2 in a 1:1 ratio or ligand substitution of 2 or LNHZnEt (12) by 0.5 equiv of Sn[N(SiMe3)2]2. The reactions of 2 or 3 with 1 provide the heterotrimetallic complex [LNH]4Li2Mg (5). Benzyl- or trimethylsilyl-substituted anilines [LN(SiMe3)H (7) and LN(Bn)H (8)] with 0.5 equiv of nBu2Mg allow the formation of homoleptic bis(amides) of the [LN(R)]2Mg type (10 and 11). Nevertheless, only the silylated secondary amine 7 is able to provide the heteroleptic n-butylmagnesium amide LN(SiMe3)MgnBu (9) upon reaction with an equimolar amount of nBu2Mg. Similarly, 12, [LNH]2Zn (13), LN(R)ZnEt (17 and 18), and [LN(R)]2Zn [R = SiMe3 (19) and Bn (20)] were prepared by the monodeprotonation of LNH2 or LN(R)H using Et2Zn in the corresponding stoichiometric ratio. LNHZnI was prepared by the nucleophilic substitution of an ethyl chain in 12 by molecular iodine. A heterometallic complex, [LNH]4Li2Zn (14), analogous to 5 was prepared from 12 or 13 with 1 or 2 equiv of 1, respectively.

Abstract

We present a comprehensive
study on the diphosphanation of iso(thio)cyanates
by unsymmetrical diphosphanes. The reactions involving unsymmetrical
diphosphanes and phenyl isocyanate or phenyl thioisocyanate gave rise
to phosphanyl, phosphoryl, and thiophosphoryl derivatives of amides,
imines, and iminoamides. The structures of the diphosphanation products
were confirmed through NMR spectroscopy, IR spectroscopy, and single-crystal
X-ray diffraction. We showed that unsymmetrical diphosphanes could
be used as building blocks to synthesize phosphorus analogues of important
classes of organic molecules. The described transformations provided
a new methodology for the synthesis of organophosphorus compounds
bearing phosphanyl, phosphoryl, or thiophosphoryl functional groups.
Moreover, theoretical studies on diphosphanation reactions explained
the influence of the steric and electronic properties of the parent
diphosphanes on the structures of the diphosphanation products. We provided synthetic access to phosphanyl,
phosphoryl,
or thiophosphoryl derivatives of amides, imines, and iminoamides starting
from simple building blocks such as unsymmetrical diphosphanes and
heterocumulenes.

Abstract
The possibility that the intramolecular Tr⋯S triel bond is strengthened by resonance is examined by quantum chemical calculations within the planar five-membered ring of TrH2-CRCR-CRS (Tr = Al, Ga, In; R = NO2, CH3). This internal bond is found to be rather short (2.4-2.7 Å) with a large bond energy between 12 and 21 kcal mol-1. The pattern of bond length alternation and atomic charges within the ring is consistent with resonance involving the conjugated double bonds. This resonance enhances the triel bond strength by some 25%. The electron-withdrawing NO2 group weakens the bond, but it is strengthened by the electron-donating CH3 substituent. NICS analysis suggests the presence of a certain degree of aromaticity within the ring.

Abstract
The formation of the substrate surface potential based on the Lennard-Jones two-particle potential is investigated in this paper. A simple atom’s square lattice on the substrate surface is considered. The periodic potential of the substrate atoms is decomposed into a Fourier series. The amplitude ratio for different frequencies has been examined numerically. The substrate potential is approximated with high accuracy by the Frenkel–Kontorova potential at most parameter values. There is a field of parameters in which the term plays a significant role, with a period half as long as the period of the substrate atoms. The ground state of the monoatomic film is modeled on the substrate potential. The film may be in both crystalline and amorphous phases. The transition to the amorphous phase is associated with a change in the landscape of the substrate potential. There are introduced order parameters for structural phase transition in the thin film. When changing the parameters of the substrate, the order parameter experiences a jump when changing the phase of the film.

Abstract
A series of coinage metal complexes in the form of TMC(CO)n- (TM=Cu, Ag, Au; n = 0-3) were generated using a laser ablation-supersonic expansion ion source in the gas phase. Mass-selected infrared photodissociation spectroscopy in conjunction with quantum chemical calculations indicated that the TMC(CO)3- complexes contain a linear OCTMCCO- core anion. Bonding analyses suggest that the linear OCTMCCO- anions are better described as the bonding interactions between a singlet ground state TM+ metal cation and the OC/CCO2- ligands in the singlet ground state. Besides the strong ligands to metal σ donation bonding components, the π-bonding components also contribute significantly to the metal-ligands bonding due to the synergetic effects of the CO and CCO2- ligands. The strengths of the bonding of the three metals show a V-shaped trend in which the second-row transition metal Ag exhibits the weakest interactions whereas the third-row transition metal Au has the strongest interactions due to the relativistic effects.

Abstract
While the downscaling of size for field effect transistors is highly desirable for computation efficiency, quantum tunneling at the Si/SiO_{2} interface becomes the leading concern when approaching the nanometer scale. By developing a machine-learning-based global search method, we now reveal all the likely Si/SiO_{2} interface structures from thousands of candidates. Two high Miller index Si(210) and (211) interfaces, being only ∼1 nm in periodicity, are found to possess good carrier mobility, low carrier trapping, and low interfacial energy. The results provide the basis for fabricating stepped Si surfaces for next-generation transistors.

Abstract
ConspectusHeterometallic clusters with M-M bonds have significantly interested chemists because of their attractive structures and synergistic effects in small-molecule activation and catalysis. However, reports of the isolation of heterometallic clusters with uranium-transition metal (U-TM) bonds remain very limited. In this Account, we describe our research in the construction of heterometallic molecular clusters with multiple U-TM single or multiple bonds supported by novel double-layer N-P ligands. Multimetallic synergistic catalysis and small-molecule activation with these species are also summarized.First, according to the hard-soft acid-base theory, we employed a three-armed N-P ligand, which can be used to construct heterometallic clusters with four or six U-Ni bonds. This strategy was also effective in the construction of complexes with direct rare earth metal-TM bonding. The similar two-armed N-P ligands also are effective platforms for the synthesis of heterometallic complexes with U-Ni, U-Pd, and U-Pt bonds.Second, a set of heterometallic clusters featuring U≡Rh, U≡Co, and U≡Fe triple bonds were constructed under routine experimental conditions. X-ray diffraction analysis of these clusters exhibits the shortest U-TM bond distance (1.9693(4) Å for the U≡Fe triple bond) in these complexes. Theoretical studies reveal that the nature of the triple bond is one covalent σ bond and two TM → U dative π bonds. A large Wiberg bond index (WBI) of 2.93 and a significant degree of covalency for the U≡TM triple bonds were also found in these complexes.Third, these uranium complexes supported by the double-layer N-P ligands exhibit great potential in small-molecule activation. For instance, N2 cleavage without an external reducing agent was achieved by a U(III)-P(III) synergistic six-electron reduction. The synergism between U(III) and P(III) enables the activation of other small molecules, such as O2, P4, and As0(nano), and highlights the importance of the P atom in the double-layer N-P ligand for the activation of small molecules. A heterometallic cluster with U-Rh bonds can break the strong N≡N triple bond in N2 in the presence of potassium graphite, suggesting a synergistic effect between U and Rh. This multimetallic synergistic effect was also observed in catalytic processes. A heterometallic cluster with U≡Co triple bonds shows excellent selectivity and activity in the hydroboration of a series of alkynes under mild conditions. These results lead to effective methods for the construction of heterometallic molecular clusters with U-TM single or multiple bonds and could promote the application of heterometallic clusters with U-TM bonds in catalysis and the activation of small molecules.

Abstract
Reactions of the known amidinate stabilised 1,2-disilylene, [{ArC(NDip)2}Si]21 (Dip = 2,6-diisopropylphenyl, Ar = 4-C6H4But) with a series of inert, unsaturated small molecule substrates have been carried out. Compound 1 reduces ButNC: to give the singlet biradicaloid 1,3-disilacyclobutanediyl [{ArC(NDip)2}Si(μ-CNBut)]23, which can be oxidised by 1,2-dibromoethane to give [{ArC(NDip)2}(Br)Si(μ-CNBut)]24. Disilylene 1 reduces two molecules of ethylene to give an unprecedented disilabicyclo[2.2.0]hexane, [{ArC(NDip)2}Si(μ-C2H4)]25. In contrast, only one molecule of ethylene inserts in the Ge-Ge bond of the digermylene analogue of 1, viz. [{ArC(NDip)2}Ge]26, leading to the formation of the bis(germylene), [{ArC(NDip)2}Ge]2(μ-C2H4) 7. Compound 1 reduces CO2, generating CO, and the oxo/carbonate-bridged disilicon(IV) system, {ArC(NDip)2}Si(μ-CO3)2(μ-O)Si{(NDip)2CAr} 10, while its reaction with N2O proceeds via generation of N2, and a hydrogen abstraction process, to give the oxo/hydroxy disilicon(IV) species, [{ArC(NDip)2}(HO)Si(μ-O)]211. This study highlights new small molecule activation chemistry for 1,2-disilylenes, which could lead to further adoption of compound 1 as a potent reducing reagent for the transformation of inert unsaturated molecules into value added products.

Abstract
A series of alkali metal 1-adamantoxide (OAd1 ) complexes of formula [M(OAd1 )(HOAd1 )2 ], where M=Li, Na or K, were synthesised by reduction of 1-adamantanol with excess of the alkali metal. The syntheses indicated that only one out of every three HOAd1 molecules was reduced. An X-ray diffraction study of the sodium derivative shows that the complex features two unreduced HOAd1 donors as well as the reduced alkoxide (OAd1 ), with the Ad1 fragments clustered together on the same side of the NaO3 plane, contrary to steric considerations. This is the first example of an alkali metal reduction of an alcohol that is inhibited from completion due to the formation of the [M(OAd1 )(HOAd1 )2 ] complexes, stabilized by London dispersion effects. NMR spectroscopic studies revealed similar structures for the lithium and potassium derivatives. Computational analyses indicate that decisive London dispersion effects in the molecular structure are a consequence of the many C-H⋅⋅⋅H-C interactions between the OAd1 groups.

Abstract
The reaction of amido-substituted stannylenes with phospha-Wittig reagents (Me3PPR) results in release of hexamethyldisilazane and tethering of the resulting -CH2PMe2PR fragment to the tin center to give P-donor stabilized stannylenes featuring four-membered Sn,C,P,P heterocycles. Through systematic increases in steric loading, the structures of these systems in the solid state can be tuned, leading to successive P-P bond lengthening and Sn-P contraction and, in the most encumbered case, to complete P-to-Sn transfer of the phosphinidene fragment. The resulting stannaphosphene features a polar Sn═P double bond as determined by structural and computational studies. The reversibility of phosphinidene transfer can be established by solution phase measurements and reactivity studies.

Abstract
Polyhedral main group element clusters of tetrel elements are discussed as suitable building units to form atom-precise nano-structures. Herein we report the oxidative coupling of two [Ge9{Si(TMS)3}2]2- clusters (TMS = trimethylsilyl) resulting in the dimeric cluster [Ge9{Si(TMS)3}2]22-. The dimer is structurally characterized as the [NHCiPrCu]+ adduct {NHCiPrCu[Ge9{Si(TMS)3}2]}2 [NHCiPr = 1,3-di(isopropyl)imidazolylidine]. The linkage of two molecular [Ge9{Si(TMS)3}2]2- anions under formation of an exo Ge-Ge bond occurs in the presence of Cy2BCl (Cy = cyclohexyl) and is mediated by trace amounts of oxygen as indicated by the isolation of the by-product Cy2B-O-BCy2.

Abstract
AbstractThe sensitivity of pristine silicon carbide nanocage Si12C12 and their doping with n-type (SiP–Si11C12) and p-type (CB–Si12C11) were investigated for NO2, SO2, and NH3 gases using density functional theory (DFT). The reactivity of nanocages was examined through adsorption energy, charge transfer, the density of states (DOS), thermodynamic parameters, frontier molecular orbitals, molecular electrostatic potential, and nonlinear optical properties. The results revealed that doping with p-type has excellent sensitivity for SO2, NO2, and NH3 gases compared with pristine and n-type doped nanocages.

Abstract
Multiply-bonded main group metal compounds are of interest as a new class of reactive species able to activate and functionalize a wide range of substrates. The aluminium sulfido compound K[Al(NONDipp)(S)] (NONDipp = [O(SiMe2NDipp)2]2-, Dipp = 2,6-iPr2C6H3), completing the series of [Al(NONDipp)(E)]- anions containing Al-E{16} multiple bonds (E{16} = O, S, Se, Te), was accessed via desulfurisation of K[Al(NONDipp)(S4)] using triphenylphosphane. The crystal structure showed a tetrameric aggregate joined by multiple K⋯S and K⋯π(arene) interactions that were disrupted by the addition of 2.2.2-cryptand to form the separated ion pair, [K(2.2.2-crypt)][Al(NONDipp)(S)]. Analysis of the anion using density functional theory (DFT) confirmed multiple-bond character in the Al-S group. The reaction of the sulfido and selenido anions K[Al(NONDipp)(E)] (E = S, Se) with CO2 afforded K[Al(NONDipp)(κ2 E,O-EC{O}O)] containing the thio- and seleno-carbonate groups respectively, consistent with a [2 + 2]-cycloaddition reaction and C-E bond formation. An analogous cycloaddition reaction took place with benzophenone affording compounds containing the diphenylsulfido- and diphenylselenido-methanolate ligands, [κ2 E,O-EC{O}Ph2]2-. In contrast, when K[Al(NONDipp)(E)] (E = S, Se) was reacted with benzaldehyde, two equivalents of substrate were incorporated into the product accompanied by formation of a second C-E bond and complete cleavage of the Al-E{16} bonds. The products contained the hitherto unknown κ2 O,O-thio- and κ2 O,O-seleno-bis(phenylmethanolate) ligands, which were exclusively isolated as the cis-stereoisomers. The mechanisms of these cycloaddition reactions were investigated using DFT methods.

Abstract
Phosphaketenes are versatile reagents in organophosphorus chemistry. We herein report on the synthesis of novel bis-phosphaketenes, LM(PCO)2 (M=Ga 2 a, In 2 b; L=HC[C(Me)N(Ar)]2 ; Ar=2,6-i-Pr2 C6 H3 ) by salt metathesis reactions and their reactions with LGa to metallaphosphenes LGa(OCP)PML (M=Ga 3 a, In 3 b). 3 b represents the first compound with significant In-P π-bonding contribution as was confirmed by DFT calculations. Compounds 3 a and 3 b selectively activate the N-H and O-H bonds of aniline and phenol at the Ga-P bond and both reactions proceed with a rearrangement of the phosphaethynolate group from Ga-OCP to M-PCO bonding. Compounds 2-5 are fully characterized by heteronuclear (1 H, 13 C{1 H}, 31 P{1 H}) NMR and IR spectroscopy, elemental analysis, and single crystal X-ray diffraction (sc-XRD).

Abstract
The potassium aluminyl [K{Al(NONDipp)}]2 ([NONDipp]2−=[O{SiMe2NDipp}2]2−, Dipp=2,6‐iPr2C6H3) activates ethene towards carbonylation with CO under mild conditions. An isolated bis‐aluminacyclopropane compound reacted with CO via carbonylation of an Al−C bond, followed by an intramolecular hydrogen shift to form K2[Al(NONDipp)(μ‐CH2CH=CO‐1κ2C1,3‐2κO)Al(NONDipp)Et]. Restricting the chemistry to a mono‐aluminium system allowed isolation of [Al(NONDipp)(CH2CH2CO‐κ2C1,3)]−, which undergoes thermal isomerisation to form the [Al(NONDipp)(CH2CH=CHO‐κ2C,O)]− anion. DFT calculations highlight the stabilising influence of incorporated benzene at multiple steps in the reaction pathways.

Abstract
Boron oxide clusters have structural richness and exotic chemical bonding. We report a quantum chemical study on the binary B5O6 - cluster, which is relatively oxygen-rich. A global structural search reveals planar C 2v (1A1) geometry as the global minimum structure, featuring a heteroatomic hexagonal B3O3 ring as its core. The three unsaturated B sites are terminated by two boronyl (BO) groups and an O- ligand. The B5O6 - cluster can be faithfully formulated as B3O3(BO)2O-. This structure is in stark contrast to that of its predecessors, C s B5O5 - and T d B5O4 -, both of which have a tetrahedral B center. Thus, there exists a major structural transformation in B5O n - series upon oxidation, indicating intriguing competition between tetrahedral and heterocyclic structures. The chemical bonding analyses show weak 6π aromaticity in the B5O6 - cluster, rendering it a boronyl analog of phenolate anion (C6H5O-) or boronyl boroxine. The calculated vertical detachment energy of B5O6 - cluster is 5.26 eV at PBE0, which greatly surpasses the electron affinities of halogens (Cl: 3.61 eV), suggesting that the cluster belongs to superhalogen anions.
