Abstract
ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE In recent years, Chinese herbal medicine has gained more and more recognition in disease prevention and control due to its low toxicity and comprehensive treatment. C. morifolium (Chrysanthemum morifolium Ramat.), as the medicine food homology plant with the bioactivity of anti-oxidation, anti-inflammatory, neuroprotection and cardiovascular protection, has important therapeutic effects and health benefits for colds, inflammation, cardiovascular diseases and various chronic diseases. AIM OF THE STUDY By reviewing the historical development, classification and distribution of germplasm resources, phytochemistry, pharmacology, and modern application of C. morifolium, the paper provides a reliable basis for the further research and application of chrysanthemum as therapeutic agents and functional additives. MATERIALS AND METHODS The literature and information about C. morifolium published in the last ten years were collected from various platforms, including Google Scholar, PubMed, ScienceDirect, Web of Science and China Knowledge Network. RESULTS A comprehensive analysis confirmed that C. morifolium originated in China, and it went through the development process from food and tea to medicine for more than 3000 years. During this period, different cultivars emerged through several breeding techniques and were distributed throughout the world. Moreover, A variety of chemical components such as flavonoids, phenolic acids, volatile oils, and terpenes in chrysanthemum have been proven they possess various pharmacology of anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, and prevention of chronic diseases by regulating inflammatory cytokines, oxidative stress responses and signaling pathways, which are the essential conditions to play a role in TCM, nutraceuticals and diet. CONCLUSION This paper provides a comprehensive review of historical development, classification, phytochemistry, pharmacology, and modern application of C. morifolium. However, future studies should continue to focus on the bioactive compounds and the synergistic mechanism of the "multi-component, multi-target, and multi-pathway" of chrysanthemum, and it is necessary to develop more innovative products with therapeutic effects.

Abstract
Hyperuricemia, a disease characterized by elevation of serum uric acid level beyond 6 mg/dL. This elevation led to appearance of symptoms from joint pain to gout and from gout to difficulty in mobility of the patient. So, in this review, we have summarized the pathology of hyperuricemia, discovery of target and discovery of first XO inhibitor. At last, this review provides in-sights about the recently discovered as natural XO inhibitors, followed by design, structure activity relationship and biological activity of synthetic compounds as XO inhibitors discovered between 2020 and 2023 years. At last, the pharmacophores generated in this study will guide new researchers to design and modify the structure of novel XO inhibitors.

Abstract
INTRODUCTION Cicer arietinum L. is the choice of health food for people with diabetes, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia. As an essential source of high-nutrition legumes, it is also an important source of dietary isoflavones. OBJECTIVES In order to improve the preparation efficiency of natural plants, a rapid biological activity screening and preparation of xanthine oxidase inhibitors from C. arietinum L. was established. METHODS Xanthine oxidase (XOD) inhibitors were rapidly screened using ultrafiltration liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (UF-LC-MS) based on receptor-ligand affinity. The change in XOD activity was evaluated by enzymatic reaction kinetics measurement. The potential bioactive compounds were verified through molecular docking. In addition, the biological activity of ligands screened was separated and purified by complex chromatography. The structures of the compounds were identified by nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. RESULTS Three active ingredients, namely daidzin, daidzein, calycosin with XOD binding affinities were identified and isolated from the raw plant materials via semi-preparative high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), 0-60 min, 5-50% B and countercurrent chromatography (CCC) (ethyl acetate/acetic acid/water [5:0.8:10, v/v/v]). CONCLUSION This study will help to elucidate the mechanisms of action of natural plants of interest at the molecular level and could also provide more opportunities for the discovery and development of new nutritional value from other natural resources.

Abstract
Xanthine oxidase (XO) inhibitors are commonly used to treat gout, nephropathy, and renal stone diseases related to hyperuricemia. However, recent research has shown that these inhibitors may also have potential benefits in preventing vascular diseases, including those affecting the cerebrovasculature. This is due to emerging evidence suggesting that serum uric acid is involved in the growth of cardiovascular disease, and XO inhibition can reduce oxidative stress in the vasculature. There is a great interest in the development of new XO inhibitors for the treatment of hyperuricemia and gout. The present review discusses the many synthetic and natural XO inhibitors that have been developed which are found to have greater potency.

Abstract
Excessive intake of purine-rich foods such as seafood and red meat leads to excess xanthine oxidase activity and provokes gout attacks. The aim of this paper is to evaluate in vitro and in silico, the inhibition effect of Cupressus sempervirens plant extracts (flavonoids (Cae) and alkaloids (CaK)) and its six derivative compounds on bovine xanthine oxidase (BXO). The in silico study consists of molecular docking with GOLD v4.0 based on the best PLPchem score (PLP) and prediction of biological activity with the PASS server tool. The inhibitors used were lignan (cp1), Amentoflavone (cp2), Cupressuflavone (cp3), Isocryptomerin (cp4), Hinokiflavone (cp5), and Neolignan (cp6). The in vitro results showed that CaK gives an IC50 of 3.52 ± 0.04 μg/ml. Similarly, Cae saved an IC50 of 8.46 ± 1.98 μg/ml compared with the control (2.82 ± 0.10 μg/ml). The in silico results show that cp1 was the best inhibitor model (PLP of 88.09) with approved pharmacokinetics. These findings suggest that cp1 and cp2 may offer good alternatives for the treatment of hyperuricemia; cp3 was moderate, while the others (cp4 to cp6) were considered weak inhibitors according to their PLP.Communicated by Ramaswamy H. Abstract
The current therapeutic approach for gout is through the inhibition of the xanthine oxidase (XO) enzyme. Allopurinol, a clinically used XO inhibitor, causes many side effects. This study aimed to investigate the interaction between XO and inhibitors identified from Chrysanthemum morifolium by using computational simulation and multispectroscopic methods. The crude extract, petroleum ether, ethyl acetate (EtOAc), and residual fractions were subjected to an XO inhibitory assay and 1H NMR analysis. The EtOAc fraction was shown to be strongly correlated to the XO inhibitory activity by using PLS biplot regression analysis. Kaempferol, apigenin, homovanillic acid, and trans-cinnamic acid were suggested to contribute to the XO inhibitory activity. Molecular docking showed that kaempferol and apigenin bound to the active site of XO with their benzopyran moiety sandwiched between Phe914 and Phe1009, interacting with Thr1010 and Arg880 by hydrogen bonding. Kaempferol showed the lowest binding energy in molecular dynamic simulation. The residues that contributed to the binding energy were Glu802, Arg880, Phe 914, and Phe 1009. A fluorescence quenching study showed a combination of static and dynamic quenching for all four inhibitors binding to XO. Circular dichroism spectroscopy revealed that there was no major change in XO conformation after binding with each inhibitor.

Abstract
The theory of medicine and food homology has a long history in China. Numerous traditional Chinese medicinal could be used as both medicine and food. Many flower medicinal materials also belong to the homology of medicine and food, such as Chrysanthemum morifolium, Lonicera japonica, Crocus sativus, and Lonicera macranthoides. They mainly contain flavonoids, organic acids, terpenoids, and other active ingredients, which have a variety of medicinal values, including anti-inflammatory, anti-tumor, and antioxidant. There are many formulations and functional foods containing these plants in Chinese medicine, which have a variety of nutritional and health effects on the human body. In this review, 10 widely used flowers were selected to review their pharmacological activities, prevention and treatment of related diseases and underlying mechanisms, and discussed the current limitations and future development prospects, hoping to provide references for the research on the development and utilization of natural medical flowers. PRACTICAL APPLICATIONS: The "homology of medicine and food" flowers have a wide range of uses and are of great research value. In this paper, we introduce 10 "homology of medicine and food" flowers. Their active ingredients, pharmacological activities, and treatments for related diseases are reviewed, and the limitations and development prospects of the "homology of medicine and food" flowers are discussed. It is hoped that this will contribute to the development of the food and pharmacological fields.

Abstract
Gout is caused by the deposition of monosodium urate crystals in the joint and represents the most common form of inflammatory arthritis in men. Its prevalence is rising worldwide mainly due to the increase of risk factors associated with the disease, in particular hyperuricemia. Besides gout, hyperuricemia leads to an increased inflammatory state of the body with consequent increased risk of comorbidities such as cardiovascular diseases. Increasing evidence shows that bioactive compounds have a significant role in fighting inflammatory and immune chronic conditions. In gout and hyperuricemia, these molecules can exert their effects at two levels. They can either decrease serum uric acid concentrations or fight inflammation associated with monosodium urate crystals deposits and hyperuricemia. In this view, they might be considered valuable support to the pharmacological therapy and prevention of the disease. This review aims to provide an overview of the beneficial role of bioactive compounds in hyperuricemia, gout development, and inflammatory pathways of the disease.

Anti-Hyperuricemic Effect of Ethyl Acetate Sub-Fractions from Chrysanthemum morifolium Ramat. Dried Flowers on Potassium Oxonate-Induced Hyperuricemic Rats. APPLIED SCIENCES-BASEL 2022. Abstract
Xanthine oxidase (XO) plays an important role in purine degradation in humans. The study aimed to determine the XO inhibitory potential of Chrysanthemum morifolium dried flower ethyl acetate sub-fractions and its anti-hyperuricemic effect in rat models. Bioassay-guided fractionation based on XO inhibitory assay was employed to obtain bioactive fractions and sub-fractions. In vitro cytotoxicity and cellular antioxidant capacity of the sub-fraction and its mode of XO inhibition were also investigated. The anti-hyperuricemic effect of the bioactive sub-fraction was investigated using rat models via oral consumption, and followed by an XO mRNA gene expression study. The compounds in the bioactive sub-fractions were identified putatively using HPLC-Q-TOF-MS/MS. Ethyl acetate (EtOAc) fraction exhibited the highest XO inhibition among the fractions. It was further fractionated into 15 sub-fractions. F10 exhibited high XO inhibitory activity, cellular pro-proliferative effect, and intracellular antioxidant activity among the sub-fractions tested. This sub-fraction was non-cytotoxic at 0.1–10 µg/mL, and very effective in lowering serum and urine uric acid level in rat models upon oral consumption. A total of 26 known compounds were identified and seven unknown compounds were detected via HPLC-Q-TOF–MS/MS analysis. The possible mechanisms contributing to the anti-hyperuricemic effect were suggested to be the non-competitive inhibition of XO enzyme, XO gene expression down-regulation, and the enhancement of uric acid excretion.

Abstract
Although arid land honey is outstanding for its conventional uses in food and medicine, there is an absence of data regarding its health benefits from the perspective of enzyme inhibitory effects that are affirmed by the current study. For the first time, this investigation demonstrates that different types of honey exert inhibitory effects on the activities of angiotensin, tyrosinase, xanthine oxidase, -α -amylase, acetylcholinesterase, and lipase, in addition to the inhibition of bovine serum albumin damage. The present study also provides a comparison with perceived healthy honey from non-arid areas. The results indicated huge contrasts among honey samples through all assessed parameters. Results also demonstrated that at least one type of honey from arid land contained a higher inhibition effect when compared with honey from other regions. Therefore, a possible application of arid land honey and its active compounds can be the utilization as a therapeutic agent against several diseases.
