Abstract
Objective This study aims to develop and validate a self-management scale for radiotherapy/chemotherapy-induced oral mucositis (SMS-RIOM/CIOM) in cancer survivors, addressing the need for a comprehensive tool to assess self-management capabilities. Methods This study employed a two-phase process: (1) initial scale development through literature review, semi-structured interviews, and expert consultations, and (2) psychometric testing with 420 cancer survivors from five wards of Zibo Hospital. The psychometric evaluation included item analysis, content validity testing, reliability assessments, exploratory factor analysis (EFA), and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). Results The finalized SMS-RIOM/CIOM consists of 15 items across four dimensions: medication management, oral pain management, disease monitoring, and daily life management. EFA explained 77.322% of the total variance, while CFA demonstrated an excellent model fit (χ²/df=1.909, RMSEA=0.064, RMR=0.052, GFI=0.911, CFI=0.964, NFI=0.928, TLI=0.955, IFI=0.964). Reliability metrics were robust, including Cronbach's alpha of 0.902, split-half reliability of 0.849, test-retest reliability of 0.862, and a scale content validity index of 0.910. Conclusions The SMS-RIOM/CIOM is a reliable and valid tool for assessing self-management in cancer survivors with RIOM/CIOM. It provides valuable insights for clinical practice, enabling targeted interventions to improve self-management and enhance the quality of life for cancer survivors. Further research is recommended to validate its application across diverse populations and healthcare settings.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to verify the role of Brazilian researchers in publications related to photobiomodulation (PBM) in the field of oral medicine. We examined ten years from 2012 to 2022 across 16 journals. Our analysis included scientific publications with a Brazilian author either in the first or last position and publications from international collaborations. The search yielded 43,525 publications. After examining titles and abstracts, 269 studies were categorized as having a specific emphasis on PBM in oral medicine, of which 147 (54.6%) were undertaken by research groups based in Brazil. The citations ranged from 1 to 149 (an average of 31 per manuscript). The male-to-female ratio of first and last author was 1:2 and 1:1.4, respectively. Brazilian involvement in the field of PBM was significant, with a marked focus on basic research, clinical applications, and technological advances. Our results also underscore the remarkable participation of female researchers in pivotal roles. Brazilian publications positively impacted healthcare worldwide using PBM in oral medicine, as evidenced by the substantial number of articles published and the citations of these articles received.

Abstract
Objectives: Mucositis is a debilitating side effect of cancer therapy that adversely affects quality of life, cost of care, and the outcome of cancer therapy. Oral mucositis-related pain may be treated with numerous modalities but often includes opioids. The effects of opiate treatment on painful UM and its overall influence on the burden of illness (BOI) in cancer patients remain unknown. Methods: This study utilized the 2017 United States (US) National Inpatient Sample (NIS) database. The exposure was opioid treatment for chemo-induced ulcerative mucositis (UM), oral mucositis-induced pain, and the main outcomes included in-hospital mortality and BOI, length of hospital stays (LOS), and total hospital charges. Multivariable regression analysis was used to examine the relationship between outcomes and the key independent variable, opioid use, adjusting for propensity scores. Results: In the propensity score-adjusted analysis, UM patients with opioid treatment had 0.51 times lower total charges (95% CI: 0.42-0.76) and 0.67 times shorter LOS (95% CI: 0.51-0.87) than the UM patients without opioid treatment. However, there was no association between opioid treatment and in-hospital mortality. In the sensitivity analysis, the effect estimates were comparable in the propensity score-adjusted analysis, the decile-adjusted model, and the full model with the non-propensity score estimated method. Conclusions: Cancer patients with chemotherapy-induced UM-prescribed opioid analgesics for treating pain are associated with a lower BOI. Opioid pain medications are commonly provided to cancer survivors; estimating the BOI among them is crucial in supportive care research.

Abstract
Radiotherapy and chemotherapy are widely employed as primary non-surgical cancer treatments; however, their non-selective cytotoxicity often leads to adverse events such as oral mucositis (OM), particularly in head and neck cancer therapies. International guidelines provide recommendations for managing chemoradiotherapy-induced OM in various clinical contexts. Subsequently, emerging researches have introduced evidence supporting novel approaches or existing regimens for OM prevention and treatment. The repurposing of established drugs has garnered significant interest due to its shorter development timeline, improved safety profiles, and lower costs compared to new drug development. For example, clinical trials assessing established drugs such as melatonin, clonidine, and pentoxifylline indicate promising potential for managing OM. Additionally, several emerging pharmacological interventions have demonstrated considerable efficacy; SAMITAL and rhIL-11 are supported by phase II clinical trials and prospective studies, while probiotics like Streptococcus salivarius K12 and curcumin have shown effectiveness in randomized clinical trials. Furthermore, recent high-level studies have reinforced the efficacy of non-pharmacological interventions, such as photobiomodulation (PBM) and cryotherapy, over the past two years. In all, given the evidence supporting different strategies, PBM and oral cryotherapy are highly recommended for managing OM when feasible. Topical clonidine, melatonin, oral pentoxifylline, topical SAMITAL or rhIL-11, oral SsK12, and curcumin may also be utilized but would benefit from validation in larger trials. Besides, Verbascoside, Palifermin, Amifostine, and Avasopasem manganese can be suggested for OM management, while the side effects should be monitored. The accessibility and cost/effectiveness of specific managing strategies of OM should be considered when selecting appropriate options.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Many preventive modalities have been advocated to reduce the incidence and severity of chemotherapy-induced Oral Mucositis (OM). Photobiomodulation, also known as Low-Level laser. Therapy, has shown promising results. This clinical trial was performed to evaluate the effectiveness of Photobiomodulation (PBM) for the prevention of chemotherapy-induced oral mucositis (OM) in children with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). PATIENTS AND METHODS A double-blinded randomized clinical trial was performed, including forty-two children diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) admitted to receiving chemotherapy (CT) at Children's Cancer Hospital 57357, Cairo, Egypt. Patients were randomly assigned to either the control or test group. Both groups followed the standard preventive protocol for oral mucositis. In the control group I sham therapy, while in the Laser group I had Photobiomodulation sessions for five consecutive days once a day performed by Diode laser (Sirrolaser Blue ™, USA) 660nm, 15watt, 10 s. Laser sessions began on day 1 of chemotherapy and were repeated on days 2,3, 4, and 5. The response to both groups was evaluated according to the development of oral mucositis; graded using the classification criteria of the World Health Organization (WHO) and the National Cancer Institute scale (NCI - Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events, version 4.0). Incidence of oral mucositis was evaluated from baseline to 5, 12, 19, and 30 days after treatment. RESULTS A clinical significant difference between the laser and control group was observed. The laser group showed a higher prevalence of no oral mucositis with decreased incidence of OM, while on day 12, the control group showed a higher prevalence of grades I and II (P-value <0.001, effect size = 0.796). However, the laser group showed higher prevalence of mucosa free of OM; on day 19, the control group showed higher rates of grades II and III, (P-value <0.001, effect size = 0.670). while on day 30 there was higher rates of grades I and II (P-value <0.001, effect size = 0.576) with higher rates of healthy oral mucosa in the laser group. CONCLUSION Photobiomodulation effectively reduces the incidence and severity of chemotherapy-induced oral mucositis in pediatric patients diagnosed with AML.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE Mucositis is one of the common side effects of chemotherapy. This study aimed to identify the effects of honey on oral care interventions to reduce mucositis scores among children undergoing chemotherapy. METHODS This pilot study was quasi-experimental with pre-post intervention with the control group. The study employed consecutive sampling, with 24 patients in the control and 24 in the intervention group. The intervention group received an oral care protocol using honey, whereas the control group received regular oral care. The data were collected using demographic information form and the Oral Assessment Guide (OAG) to assess mucositis. The intervention group received oral care intervention using honey (35 ml of honey applied topically in the oral cavity and 15 ml of honey used as a mouthwash and for lip care), which was given thrice daily for five days. The data were analyzed using percentage distributions, means, chi-square tests, dependent and independent t-tests, and multivariate analysis using analysis of covariance (ANCOVA). RESULTS The findings of this study showed that the intervention group experienced a significant reduction (-0.51 ± 0.66) in the average mucositis score after the intervention, whereas the control group experienced an increase in the mucositis score (3.84 ± 1.28) after controlling for confounding variables (p = 0.000). CONCLUSION This study revealed that oral care with honey effectively reduced chemotherapy-induced mucositis in children with cancer. These findings suggest that oral care with honey should be used as a nursing intervention for chemotherapy patients. TRIAL REGISTRATION This clinical trial was retrospectively registered in the Australian New Zealand Clinical Trials Registry (ANZCTR) with registration number ACTRN12624001313527 (29/10/2024).

Abstract
This review aimed to determine whether photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT) is a safe and effective alternative for treating and preventing OM in children. The database search was carried out on PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane. Gray literature was also consulted through Google Scholar. Among 20 studies included, no adverse effect was reported, and only one study did not show any evidence of benefit from the use of PBMT. The analgesic effect of PBMT was emphasized and its action in accelerating the healing process and reducing the severity, duration and even incidence of OM was also noted. Evidence was found to encourage the use of PBMT to treat OM in pediatric patients. Higher quality studies must be developed in order to clarify the PBMT prophylactic effect and the best protocols for each clinical situation.The protocol of this review was registered on PROSPERO (CRD42023418109).

Abstract
Objective: This study aimed to review the current body of literature on underexplored areas of photobiomodulation (PBM) for preventing and/or treating oral adverse events. Background: Recent studies suggest that PBM may offer potential benefits in managing cancer-related toxicities other than oral mucositis. Nevertheless, further research to establish conclusive evidence is still missing. Methods: A panel of specialists conducted a narrative review to evaluate the evidence on PBM therapy for oral mucositis, xerostomia, dysgeusia, dysphagia, and trismus/fibrosis. Each topic was reviewed by two specialists who discussed treatment rationale, summarized current evidence, evaluated risk/benefit ratio, and identified future research directions. Results: The current evidence suggests promising outcomes in nonroutine uses of PBM for xerostomia, dysgeusia, odynophagia, oral mucositis (extraoral PBM and the pediatric population), and trismus/fibrosis. However, the primary studies are often small and may have biases that require further evaluation, particularly regarding treatment safety. Conclusion: Despite the overall positive impression of PBM therapy for oral adverse events of cancer treatment, robust evidence from large multicentered studies is necessary to support its widespread clinical use.

Abstract
Background Chemotherapy-induced mucositis is inflammation that develops in the oral mucosal due to anticancer treatment. Mucositis has negative consequences that may lead to distress in pediatric patients, resulting in escalated expenses, diminished quality of life, hindrance in cancer therapy, and decreased survival rates. However, despite the numerous methods, oral care protocols are suggested for implementation in the pediatric population despite a lack of high-level evidence studies, particularly regarding which appropriate oral care agents should be administered. Purpose This systematic review aimed to identify the effect of oral care intervention in mucositis management among pediatric cancer patients. Methods Studies were published between 2014 and 2023 from five databases: PubMed, Embase, Medline, ScienceDirect, and Scopus. They were identified using a search strategy to identify relevant studies that identify oral care interventions for managing mucositis in children with cancer. This study used the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) critical appraisal tools to assess the quality of the studies and followed the recommended reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. Results Eight studies met the inclusion criteria, including seven RCTs and one quasi-experimental study. Oral care interventions involving tooth brushing, mouthwash, and lip care are performed entirely or partially. The frequency of oral care ranges from two to six times daily, and the duration of intervention is from 5 days to six weeks. Oral care interventions using honey, olive oil, Aloe Vera, Andiroba, and salivary enzyme toothpaste are beneficial to lower the severity of mucositis, reduce pain, minimize mucositis duration, and reduce the use of analgesics, but not significantly improve the child's quality of life. However, Caphosol mouthwash did not significantly reduce mucositis. Conclusion Our study highlights that oral care intervention using effective agents integratively, including honey, olive oil, Aloe vera, Andiroba, and salivary enzyme toothpaste, is essential to manage chemotherapy-induced mucositis among children. Abstract
Oral mucositis (OM) is a common and debilitating toxicity of cancer treatments - chemotherapy, radiotherapy, hematopoietic cell transplant, or combinations. OM is associated with severe oral pain and has negative impacts on patient function and quality of life. Additionally, OM has accompanying systemic complications that may have critical implications. These local and systemic consequences can alter cancer treatment, and add an economic burden. This review covers the clinical presentation and course of OM, differential diagnosis, clinical and economic impacts, pathogenesis, risk factors, assessment measures, biomarkers and prediction of OM, management, research advances in the development of new drugs and treatments, and big data.

Abstract
BACKGROUND ECIL-2021 recommends discontinuing empirical antibiotic therapy (EAT) in febrile-neutropenic children after 72 h of treatment and at least 24-48 h of apyrexia in the case of fever of unknown origin (FUO). These guidelines are rarely applied to high-risk children's neutropenia. MATERIAL AND METHODS We retrospectively included all consecutive FUO episodes occurring during profound neutropenia ≥ 10 days in children in our institution. We evaluated the safety of EAT discontinuation in patients for whom the ECIL guidelines were followed compared to those for whom they didn't. We used a combined criterion of mortality and intensive care unit admission at 30 days. We identified risk factors for recurrent fever after EAT discontinuation. RESULTS Fifty-one FUO episodes occurred in 37 patients. EAT discontinuation followed ECIL guidelines in 19 (37 %) episodes. No deaths and-or transfers in ICU occurred in the ECIL group. The duration of EAT was shorter by nine days in the group following ECIL guidelines (p < 0.001). We observed 14 (27 %) episodes of recurrent fever. Mucositis was significantly associated with recurrent fever (p < 0.01). CONCLUSION EAT discontinuation seems feasible and safe in FUO during prolonged febrile neutropenia in children. However, mucosal lesions should prompt thorough surveillance due to the risk of recurrent fever.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Oral mucositis (OM) is a painful and common complication of hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT). The Children's Oncology Group recently published guidelines recommending photobiomodulation (PBM) for preventing and treating OM in pediatric HSCT patients. However, this is a rarely used intervention in pediatric hospitals. PROCEDURE Patients undergoing allogeneic HSCT, or autologous HSCT for a neuroblastoma diagnosis, had PBM administered from the first day of conditioning to transplant Day +20. We successfully developed a standardized treatment protocol and workflow to ensure consistent and uniform delivery of PBM. In addition, clinical patient data were compared before and after PBM implementation. RESULTS The administration of PBM at our center was feasible, but required dedicated staff. A registered nurse (RN) was determined to be the best fit to deliver PBM. Sixty-two patients received PBM from October 2022 to September 2023; patients from 2021 before PBM implementation were used for comparison. Patients receiving PBM were more likely (p = .03) to engage in teeth brushing (56/62 = 90%) compared to baseline (61/81 = 75%). Mean days of OM decreased from 11.3 to 9 days; patients who received PBM were less likely (p < .001) to be discharged on total parental nutrition (TPN) (11/62 = 18%) compared to baseline (50/82 = 61%). OM-related supportive care costs (TPN and patient-controlled anesthesia [PCA]) were lower (p = .02) for those who received PBM (median cost = $31,229.87 vs. $37,370.66). CONCLUSION PBM, as the standard of care in the pediatric HSCT population, is safe, feasible, and well-tolerated. At our center, a dedicated RN was critical to providing standardized treatment and ensuring sustainability.

Abstract
Children undergoing antineoplastic treatment often present severe side effects due to the dosage and duration of treatments, with oral mucositis emerging as one of the most prevalent and painful inflammatory conditions. There is a growing body of evidence on therapeutic interventions such as cryotherapy, low-level laser therapy, and natural compounds for this condition. The aim of this systematic review was to identify and compare therapies for the management of cancer treatment-induced oral mucositis in pediatric patients. From 2655 articles obtained in initial searches, 39 articles were considered in this systematic review, after applying inclusion/exclusion criteria. Low-level laser therapy, palifermin, honey, and zinc demonstrated reductions in oral mucositis incidence, duration, severity, and pain reported by the patient. Although there are several therapies in place for the prevention and treatment of oral mucositis in children, evidence of their efficacy is still inconclusive to establish accurate clinical protocols.

Abstract
Oral mucositis (OM) is a major and common adverse reaction to cancer treatment, occurring in all patients who undergo radiation therapy or chemotherapy that includes the mucosal areas of the oral and oropharyngeal region. The pathophysiology of OM remains incompletely understood, and there are many unanswered questions about the risk factors for developing OM. Multidisciplinary clinicians and researchers must collaborate to better understand and expand treatment strategies for OM and other inflammatory conditions in oncology. This will lead to the development of more effective treatments and reduce the burden of OM in cancer patients. This article comprehensively reviews the risk factors and patient factors associated with OM, its pathogenesis, clinical presentation, grading, and management.

Abstract
The aim of this study was to perform a systematic review to evaluate the impact of photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT) for the prevention of oral mucositis (OM) on the quality of life (QoL) of patients with head and neck cancer (HNC) undergoing radiation therapy. This study followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis guidelines. The search strategy was performed in five electronic databases (Cochrane, Embase, PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science). The included studies assessed the QoL of patients undergoing radiation therapy (RT) for HNC and undergoing PBMT for the management of OM. Seven articles met the eligibility criteria. Data extraction was performed in the selected studies including the PBMT parameters (active medium, application procedure, wavelength, fluence, power, irradiance, irradiation time, spot size, energy per point, schedule of irradiation, and total energy). The included studies were qualitatively analyzed, and descriptive analyses were performed. Also, summary results were evaluated for group comparison analysis. All included studies confirmed a decrease in the QoL of the patients that developed OM throughout the RT progress when compared to baseline. Of the informed cases, most of the patients who received PBMT showed grades 1 and 2 OM, while the control group showed more individuals with severe forms of OM (grades 3 and 4). In this sense, patients submitted to PBMT reported better QoL at the end of the treatment compared with the control group. PBMT used for the management of OM preserves the QoL of patients with head and neck cancer.

Photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT) is widely used in oncology settings, but lack of assessment standardization is the main barrier to optimization of clinical protocols. This study analyzed three PBMT protocols for preventing oral and oropharyngeal mucositis (OM) in patients undergoing chemotherapy (CT) and/or hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). This is a preliminary randomized blind clinical trial. Group 1 received intraoral prophylactic PBMT, Group 2 received intraoral and oropharyngeal PBMT, and Group 3 received intraoral, oropharyngeal, and extraoral PBMT. The applications were from the first day of CT to day + 10. Clinicodemographic data, CT regimens, types of HSCT, hematological exams, occurrence/severity of OM, odynophagia, and OM-related opportunistic infections were assessed. Sixty participants (age range: 18-74 years) were included; 70% of them underwent CT and 30% HSCT. About 43.3% of patients had OM, while odynophagia was reported by 23.3%. Both Groups 1 and 2 revealed better results. Multivariate analysis showed that HSCT directly influenced the occurrence of OM. Individuals who had undergone allogeneic HSCT were 1.93 times more likely to develop OM (p < 0.001). Group 3 exhibited a higher frequency of OM, albeit of lower grades. This group consisted of half the population who had undergone HSCT, had the highest percentage of melphalan use, and had the lowest mean leukocyte count. The three proposed protocols were effective in preventing and reducing OM, with good tolerance and no reported adverse effects. PBMT is a safe and effective approach to OM prophylaxis in adults undergoing CT/HSCT.

Abstract
PURPOSE To evaluate the effectiveness of photobiomodulation in the treatment of oral mucositis. METHODS Systematic review and meta-analysis encompassing in the electronic databases: LILACS, MEDLINE, EMBASE, COCHRANE, SCOPUS, WEB OF SCIENCE, and CINAHL and in http://clinicaltrials.gov . Eligibility criteria were randomized, non-randomized, and observational studies that used photobiomodulation for the treatment of oral mucositis. The endpoints were reduction in the severity of oral mucositis, duration of lesions, and pain reduction. For data analysis, the Review Manager 5.4 program was used. RESULTS A total of 316 studies were identified, 297 in the electronic databases and 19 in http://clinicaltrials.gov . After removing duplicates, 260 studies were selected for title and abstract reading, of which 223 were excluded. A total of 37 studies were chosen for full reading, of which 6 were included in the review, totaling 299 patients. The treatment used was photobiomodulation. The patients were divided into two groups: the laser group used only photobiomodulation or associated with other therapies, and the control group did not use photobiomodulation. For the endpoint reduction in the severity of oral mucositis (OM), the chance of reduction of the OM was greater in the laser group as compared to the control group. For the endpoints duration of OM lesions and pain reduction, it was not possible to carry out a meta-analysis due to the high heterogeneity between studies. In the interpretation of the meta-analysis, the reduction in the severity of oral mucositis was greater in the group that received photobiomodulation. CONCLUSION Photobiomodulation was effective in the treatment of oral mucositis.

Abstract
PURPOSE It is important to determine the approaches for oral mucositis (OM) care in pediatric oncology clinics to reflect the profile of practices. The aim of this study was to report on current nursing care approaches for OM in Türkiye. METHODS The descriptive, cross-sectional study was conducted with nurse managers in pediatric oncology centers in Türkiye between April and December 2022. The data were obtained online by reaching pediatric oncology nurse managers. The data was collected with the "Oral Mucositis Care Application Form" developed by the researchers based on current literature. RESULTS The study reached approximately 60% (n = 41) of pediatric oncology clinics across Türkiye. Oral assessment of children was mainly conducted by nurses (95.1%), and 53.7% of clinics used the WHO Oral Mucositis Assessment Scale. To prevent OM, oral care routines were performed twice a day (36.6%) using sodium bicarbonate (61%) and 0.9% sodium chloride (26.8%) agents. For oral mucositis management, pharmacological agents included glutamine (oral) (51.2%), chlorhexidine (43.9%), and benzydamine hydrochloride (36.6%), while non-pharmacological agents included black mulberry syrup (41.5%), honey (19.8%), and chewing gum (9.8%). Chlorhexidine and benzydamine hydrochloride were used for all mucositis grades, while glutamine was frequently used for grades 2 and above. CONCLUSIONS The study revealed that the practices related to preventing and managing oral mucositis in pediatric oncology clinics in Türkiye are heterogeneous. These findings will contribute to the existing literature on the multidisciplinary, systematic, and evidence-based approaches used in oral mucositis care in Türkiye.

Abstract
There is increasing recognition of post-COVID-19 sequelae involving chronic fatigue and brain fog, for which photobiomodulation (PBM) therapy has been utilized. This open-label, pilot, human clinical study examined the efficacy of two PBM devices, for example, a helmet (1070 nm) for transcranial (tPBM) and a light bed (660 and 850 nm) for whole body (wbPBM), over a 4-week period, with 12 treatments for two separate groups (n = 7 per group). Subjects were evaluated with a neuropsychological test battery, including the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA), the digit symbol substitution test (DSST), the trail-making tests A and B, the physical reaction time (PRT), and a quantitative electroencephalography system (WAVi), both pre- and post- the treatment series. Each device for PBM delivery was associated with significant improvements in cognitive tests (p < 0.05 and beyond). Changes in WAVi supported the findings. This study outlines the benefits of utilizing PBM therapy (transcranial or whole-body) to help treat long-COVID brain fog.

Abstract
OBJECTIVE The objective of this systematic review was to determine whether oral and dental hygiene protocols (DHPs) reduce the incidence and severity of oral mucositis (OM) during antineoplastic treatment. MATERIALS AND METHODS This PROSPERO-registered systematic review (CRD42021295322) was based on searches of publicly accessible databases, including PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, LILACS, EBSCOhost, LIVIVO, Embase, and gray literature (Google Scholar, ProQuest, and Energy) until December 2021. Twenty-five articles from these searches and 14 articles retrieved from the references therein were evaluated in this systematic review and meta-analysis. The risk of bias (RoB) was assessed using RoB-2 and ROBINS-I for randomized (RCT) and non-randomized (n-RCT) clinical trials, respectively. A meta-analysis was performed on RCTs and n-RCTs in two subgroups to evaluate oral mouth rinses or DHP. GRADE-pro was used to assess the degree of certainty of the evidence. RESULTS Of the 3367 articles retrieved, 25 RCTs and 14 n-RCTs involving 2109 and 754 patients, respectively, were included in the analyses. RoB was low for RCTs and moderate-to-very severe for n-RCTs. High heterogeneity and publication RoB were identified. In RCTs, mouth rinses (p = 0.830) and DHP (p = 0.100) did not reduce the incidence of OM. However, mouth rinses strongly reduced the severity of OM (p < 0.001; Cohen's d = - 1.87, 95% confidence interval [CI] = - 2.49 to - 1.24). In non-RCTs, mouth rinses (p < 0.001) and DHP (p < 0.001) reduced the relative risk of OM 0.38 (95% CI = 0.24 to 0.59) and 0.64 (95% CI = 0.53 to 0.70) times, respectively. In addition, DHP strongly reduced OM severity (Cohen's d = - 0.81, 95% CI = - 1.03 to - 0.59). GRADE-pro showed high certainty of OM severity and incidence in RCTs and non-RCTs, respectively, and low (OM incidence in RCTs) to very low (OM severity in non-RCTs) certainty in other outcomes. CONCLUSION DHPs strongly reduce the severity and moderately reduce the incidence of OM. However, further studies with low heterogeneity are needed to validate these findings.

Abstract
Survival in patients with hematological malignancies has improved over the years, both due to major developments in anticancer treatment, as well as in supportive care. Nevertheless, important and debilitating complications of intensive treatment regimens still frequently occur, including mucositis, fever and bloodstream infections. Exploring potential interacting mechanisms and directed therapies to counteract mucosal barrier injury is of the utmost importance if we are to continue to improve care for this increasingly growing patient population. In this perspective, I highlight recent advances in our understanding of the relation of mucositis and infection.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Photobiomodulation (PBM) therapy, a form of low-dose light therapy, has been noted to be effective in several age-associated chronic diseases such as hypertension and atherosclerosis. Here, we examined the effects of PBM therapy on age-associated cardiovascular changes in a mouse model of accelerated cardiac aging. METHODS Fourteen months old Adenylyl cyclase type VIII (AC8) overexpressing transgenic mice (n = 8) and their wild-type (WT) littermates (n = 8) were treated with daily exposure to Near-Infrared Light (850 nm) at 25 mW/cm2 for 2 min each weekday for a total dose of 1 Einstein (4.5 p.J/cm2 or fluence 3 J/cm2 ) and compared to untreated controls over an 8-month period. PBM therapy was administered for 3.5 months (Early Treatment period), paused, due to Covid-19 restrictions for the following 3 months, and restarted again for 1.5 months. Serial echocardiography and gait analyses were performed at monthly intervals, and serum TGF-β1 levels were assessed following sacrifice. RESULTS During the Early Treatment period PBM treatments: reduced the age-associated increases in left ventricular (LV) mass in both genotypes (p = 0.0003), reduced the LV end-diastolic volume (EDV) in AC8 (p = 0.04); and reduced the left atrial dimension in both genotypes (p = 0.02). PBM treatments substantially increased the LV ejection fraction (p = 0.03), reduced the aortic wall stiffness (p = 0.001), and improved gait symmetry, an index of neuro-muscular coordination (p = 0.005). The effects of PBM treatments, measured following the pause, persisted. Total TGF-β1 levels were significantly increased in circulation (serum) in AC8 following PBM treatments (p = 0.01). We observed a striking increase in cumulative survival in PBM-treated AC8 mice (100%; p = 0.01) compared to untreated AC8 mice (43%). CONCLUSION PBM treatment mitigated age-associated cardiovascular remodeling and reduced cardiac function, improved neuromuscular coordination, and increased longevity in an experimental animal model. These responses correlate with increased TGF-β1 in circulation. Future mechanistic and dose optimization studies are necessary to assess these anti-aging effects of PBM, and validation in future controlled human studies is required for effective clinical translation.

Abstract
Photobiomodulation is a term for using low-power red to near-infrared light to stimulate a variety of positive biological effects. Though the scientific and clinical acceptance of PBM as a therapeutic intervention has increased dramatically in recent years, the molecular underpinnings of the effect remain poorly understood. The putative chromophore for PBM effects is cytochrome c oxidase. It is postulated that light absorption at cytochrome c oxidase initiates a signaling cascade involving ATP and generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), which subsequently results in improved cellular robustness. However, this hypothesis is largely based on inference and indirect evidence, and the precise molecular mechanisms that govern how photon absorption leads to these downstream effects remain poorly understood. We conducted low-power PBM-type light exposures of isolated mitochondria to 808 nm NIR light, at a number of irradiances. NIR exposure was found to enhance the activity of complex IV, depress the activity of complex III, and had no effect on the activity of complex II. Further, examining the dose-response of complex IV we found NIR enhancement did not exhibit irradiance reciprocity, indicating the effect on complex IV may not have direct photochemical basis. In summary, this research presents a novel method to interrogate the earliest stages of PBM in the mitochondria, and a unique window into the corresponding molecular mechanism(s) of induction.

Abstract
Oral mucositis is one of the worst effects of the conditioning regimens given to patients undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. It is characterized by dry mouth, erythema, mucosal soreness, ulcers, and pain, and it may impact patient outcomes. Bovine colostrum and Aloe vera contain a wide variety of biologically active compounds that promote mucosal healing. A non-randomized phase II study was designed to assess the safety and efficacy of a combined bovine colostrum and Aloe vera oral care protocol to prevent and to treat severe oral mucositis in transplant patients. Two commercially available products were given to patients in addition to the standard protocol: Remargin Colostrum OS® mouthwash and Remargin Colostrum Gastro-Gel® taken orally. Forty-six (78.0%) patients experienced oral mucositis, 40 (67.8%) developed mild-moderate forms, and 6 (10.2%) severe ones. Comparing the study group's outcomes with those of a homogeneous historical control group, severe oral mucositis decreased significantly (10.2% vs. 28.4%; P < 0.01), as did its duration (0.5 ± 1.9 vs. 1.5 ± 3.0 days; P < 0.01). Febrile neutropenia episodes (69.5% vs. 95.1%; P < 0.01) and duration (4.0 ± 4.7 vs. 6.2 ± 4.5 days; P < 0.01) also decreased. These findings show that the experimental protocol seems effective in preventing severe forms of oral mucositis. However, a randomized controlled trial is necessary to confirm this.

Abstract
DisclaimerThis article is based on recommendations from the 12th WALT Congress, Nice, October 3-6, 2018, and a follow-up review of the existing data and the clinical observations of an international multidisciplinary panel of clinicians and researchers with expertise in the area of supportive care in cancer and/or PBM clinical application and dosimetry. This article is informational in nature. As with all clinical materials, this paper should be used with a clear understanding that continued research and practice could result in new insights and recommendations. The review reflects the collective opinion and, as such, does not necessarily represent the opinion of any individual author. In no event shall the authors be liable for any decision made or action taken in reliance on the proposed protocols.ObjectiveThis position paper reviews the potential prophylactic and therapeutic effects of photobiomodulation (PBM) on side effects of cancer therapy, including chemotherapy (CT), radiation therapy (RT), and hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT).BackgroundThere is a considerable body of evidence supporting the efficacy of PBM for preventing oral mucositis (OM) in patients undergoing RT for head and neck cancer (HNC), CT, or HSCT. This could enhance patients’ quality of life, adherence to the prescribed cancer therapy, and treatment outcomes while reducing the cost of cancer care.MethodsA literature review on PBM effectiveness and dosimetry considerations for managing certain complications of cancer therapy were conducted. A systematic review was conducted when numerous randomized controlled trials were available. Results were presented and discussed at an international consensus meeting at the World Association of photobiomoduLation Therapy (WALT) meeting in 2018 that included world expert oncologists, radiation oncologists, oral oncologists, and oral medicine professionals, physicists, engineers, and oncology researchers. The potential mechanism of action of PBM and evidence of PBM efficacy through reported outcomes for individual indications were assessed.ResultsThere is a large body of evidence demonstrating the efficacy of PBM for preventing OM in certain cancer patient populations, as recently outlined by the Multinational Association for Supportive Care in Cancer/International Society of Oral Oncology (MASCC/ISOO). Building on these, the WALT group outlines evidence and prescribed PBM treatment parameters for prophylactic and therapeutic use in supportive care for radiodermatitis, dysphagia, xerostomia, dysgeusia, trismus, mucosal and bone necrosis, lymphedema, hand-foot syndrome, alopecia, oral and dermatologic chronic graft-versus-host disease, voice/speech alterations, peripheral neuropathy, and late fibrosis amongst cancer survivors.ConclusionsThere is robust evidence for using PBM to prevent and treat a broad range of complications in cancer care. Specific clinical practice guidelines or evidence-based expert consensus recommendations are provided. These recommendations are aimed at improving the clinical utilization of PBM therapy in supportive cancer care and promoting research in this field. It is anticipated these guidelines will be revised periodically.

Abstract
Multiple wavelength devices are now available for photobiomodulation (PBM) treatments, but their dosimetry for individual or combinatorial use remains unclear. The present work investigated the effects of 447, 532, 658, 810, 980 and 1064 nm wavelengths on odontoblast differentiation at 10 mW/cm2 using either equal treatment time for conventional fluence (300 seconds for 3 J/cm2 ) or varying times to adjust for individual wavelength photon fluence (4.6 p.J/cm2 ). Both 447 and 810 nm significantly increased alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity, while 1064 nm showed reduced ALP activity at 3 J/cm2 . However, ALP induction was significantly improved when equivalent photon fluence dosing was used. Other wavelengths did not show significant changes compared to untreated controls. The data suggest that accounting for wavelength-specific photon energy transfer during PBM dosing could improve clinical safety and efficacy.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Oral mucositis (OM) is one of the most debilitating effects of toxicity due to hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) conditioning regimens. The aim of this secondary analysis of the data of a phase II study designed to assess the efficacy of a novel oral care protocol containing bovine colostrum and aloe vera to prevent oral mucositis was to compare outcomes reported by patients with those collected by healthcare professionals (HCPs). METHOD Data on oral mucositis severity, duration, time of onset and related pain were collected from patients using the Oral Mucositis Daily Questionnaire (OMDQ). HCPs assessed the same outcomes using the World Health Organization oral mucositis scale and pain numerical rating scale. Quality of life was assessed with the 3-level EuroQol-5 dimensions. RESULTS Fifty-nine autologous/allogeneic graft patients were recruited, 46 of whom (78.0%) experienced OM. Mean onset was 9.1 (SD ± 3.5) days after conditioning initiation, mean duration was 10.4 (SD ± 4.3) days, and the average maximum pain score was 3.7 (SD ± 2.7). Self-administration of the OMDQ detected oral symptoms at least 1 day sooner compared to objective assessments (p = 0.025). Significant differences were observed between the patient-reported and the HCP-assessment data on oral mucositis severity grading distribution (p < 0.0001) and highest pain score (p < 0.0001). Quality of life score variations were correlated with changes in oral mucositis severity during patients' hospital stay. CONCLUSIONS Further studies are necessary to improve the understanding of these findings; a randomised controlled trial is being set up at our institution.

Abstract
OBJECTIVES Evaluation of the effectiveness of Photobiomodulation(PBM) for chemotherapy-induced oral mucositis (OM) in leukemic children. MATERIALS AND METHODS A randomized controlled clinical study including forty-four leukemic children diagnosed with chemotherapy-induced OM at the Hematology/Oncology inpatient unit at Alexandria University Children's Hospital, Alexandria, Egypt. Patients were randomly assigned to either the control or test groups with a 1:1 ratio. The control group received conventional symptomatic treatment, while the test group was treated with PBM in addition to the symptomatic treatment. The response to both treatment modalities was evaluated according to the reduction of pain and lesions severity from baseline to 5, 10, and 14 days after treatment. RESULTS A significant reduction of pain was recorded on day 10 in the test group compared to the control group (p < 0.001). There was also a significant decline in the OM grades between the two groups on day14 (p = 0.003). No adverse events were reported. CONCLUSIONS The use of PBM along with the conventional treatment was effective in reducing pain and in the recovery of OM lesions in children receiving chemotherapy for the treatment of ALL. It was also safe and applicable to children.

Abstract
Background As a common side effect of radio/chemotherapy, oral mucositis severely affects patients' quality of life. Honey has been recommended for adults with radio/chemotherapy-induced oral mucositis (R/CIOM), but its effect for pediatric patients has not been systematically evaluated. Therefore, the aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to illuminate whether honey is effective in treating pediatric R/CIOM. Methods Two authors searched electronic databases including PubMed, Embase, the Cochrane Library, Web of Science, and Scopus to identify relevant studies, published in English. Then, the outcomes data was extracted from eligible studies and pooled in the meta-analysis. Results Totally, five studies containing 316 patients were included in our systematic review and meta-analysis. The result indicated that honey intervention significantly reduced the recovery time (MD = -5.10, 95% CI [-9.60, -0.61], P < 0.001, I 2 = 98%, random-effect model) in pediatric patients. Honey also reduced the occurrence of all grades of R/CIOM (RR = 0.19, 95% CI [0.12, 0.30], P < 0.001, I2 = 0%, fixed-effect model) and the occurrence of grade III and grade IV R/CIOM (RR = 0.18, 95% CI [0.08, 0.41], P < 0.001, I2 = 7%, fixed-effect model), and the sensitivity analysis showed the results were stable and robust. Conclusion Therefore, honey could be a competent candidate for the complementary treatment of pediatric R/CIOM.

Abstract
Objective: The central role of the TGF-β pathway in embryonic development, immune responses, tissue healing, and malignancies is well established. Prior attempts with small molecules, peptides, and regulatory RNAs have failed mainly due to off-target effects in clinical studies. This review outlines the evidence for selectively activating the endogenous, latent transforming growth factor (TGF)-β1 with photobiomodulation (PBM) treatments. Background: Light treatments play a central role in current-directed energy therapeutics in medicine. Therapeutic use of low-dose light treatments has been noted since the 1960s. However, the breadth of treatments and inconsistencies with clinical outcomes have led to much skepticism. This can be primarily attributed to a lack of understanding of the fundamental light-tissue interactions and optimization of clinical treatment protocols. Methods: Recent advances in molecular mechanisms and improved biophotonic device technologies have led to a resurgence of interest in this field. Results: Over the past two decades, our work has focused on outlining a direct molecular mechanism involving PBM-generated redox-mediated activation of endogenous latent TGF-β1. Conclusions: Despite its critical roles in these processes, the complexity and cross talk in this potent growth factor signaling network have prevented the development of directed targeted therapeutics. PBM treatments offer a novel therapeutic and discovery tool in this aspect, especially with the growing evidence for its roles in cancer immunotherapy and stem cell biology.

Abstract
Oral mucositis is a painful complication of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation for which photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT) is a safe and effective intervention. Extraoral delivery of PBMT has clinical advantages over intraoral delivery but requires additional dosimetric considerations due to the external tissue layers through which the light must propagate before reaching the oral mucosa. Additionally, to date there has been no dose modeling study, a task essential to developing a justified treatment protocol. We review here some of the complexities surrounding extraoral photobiomodulation therapy and offer that may help guide researchers toward an evidence-based treatment protocol for the prevention of oral mucositis.

Abstract
BACKGROUND Chemotherapy-induced oral mucositis can result in severe pain. Intravenous (IV) opioids are recommended, but management protocols vary. We systematically reviewed studies reporting IV opioid use for pain related to chemotherapy-induced severe oral mucositis in children and conducted a large single-center case series. METHODS Ovid MEDLINE, PubMed, and Cochrane databases were searched for studies reporting IV opioid duration and/or dose requirements for severe mucositis. Secondly, our pain service database was interrogated to describe episodes of opioid administration by patient- or nurse-controlled analgesia (PCA/NCA) for children with mucositis and cancer treatment-related pain. RESULTS Seventeen studies (six randomized trials, two prospective observational, three retrospective cohort, six retrospective case series) included IV opioid in 618 patients (age 0.3-22.3 years), but reported parameters varied. Mucositis severity and chemotherapy indication influenced IV opioid requirements, with duration ranging from 3 to 68 days and variable dose trajectories (hourly morphine or equivalent 0-97 mcg/kg/h). Our 7-year series included PCA/NCA for 364 episodes of severe mucositis (302 patients; age 0.12-17.2 years). Duration ranged from 1 to 107 days and dose requirements in the first 3 days from 1 to 110 mcg/kg/h morphine. Longer PCA/NCA duration was associated with: higher initial morphine requirements (ρ = 0.46 [95% CI 0.35, 0.57]); subsequent increased pain and need for ketamine co-analgesia (118/364 episodes with opioid/ketamine 13.9 [9.8-22.2] days vs opioid alone 6.0 [3.9-10.8] days; median [IQR]); but not with age or sex. CONCLUSIONS Management of severe mucositis pain can require prolonged IV opioid therapy. Individual and treatment-related variability in analgesic requirements highlight the need for regular review, titration, and management by specialist services.

Abstract
Oral mucositis (OM) is a common, highly symptomatic complication of cancer therapy that affects patients' function, quality of life, and ability to tolerate treatment. In certain patients with cancer, OM is associated with increased mortality. Research on the management of OM is ongoing. Oral mucosal toxicities are also reported in targeted and immune checkpoint inhibitor therapies. The objective of this article is to present current knowledge about the epidemiology, pathogenesis, assessment, risk prediction, and current and developing intervention strategies for OM and other ulcerative mucosal toxicities caused by both conventional and evolving forms of cancer therapy.

Abstract
Low-level laser therapy (LLLT) is included in the Federal project «Fight against oncological diseases», which provides for equipping all specialized medical institutions in Russia with the appropriate devices until 2026. PURPOSE OF THE STUDY Publications analysis on the use of LLLT in oncology. MATERIAL AND METHODS To search for publications, databases and libraries were used: PubMed, Scopus, ResearchGate, Google Scholar, J-STAGE, eLibrary.ru for the period 2018-2021. For analysis, publications were selected that are of interest from the point of view of improving the methodology of LLLT, the prospects for the development of this method in the prevention, treatment and rehabilitation of patients. A total of 223 publications were found, including 39 reviews and meta-analyses, mostly in English (165) and Portuguese (41). RESULTS AND DISCUSSION The inclusion of LLLT in the ISOO/MASCC/ASCO recommendations for the treatment of complications such as mucositis, salivary gland hypofunction and xerostomia caused by non-surgical methods of treating cancer patients should be considered as a promising trend. An extremely low level of quality of LLLT techniques was noted, most often the replacement with meaningless «doses», «fluences» instead of the necessary parameters: wavelength, operating mode, power, frequency, exposure, etc. The use of only local illumination instead of systemic methods of LLLT does not allow obtaining the best results of treatment and prevention. Eliminating the shortcomings of treatment protocols with a focus on Russian experience, when laser blood illumination (intravenously or externally) and laser acupuncture are also necessarily carried out with local illumination of the lesion, will bring the effectiveness of LLLT to a qualitatively new, higher level.

Abstract
PURPOSE This study aimed to evaluate the effects and mechanisms of action of royal jelly (RJ) and propolis compared to photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT) in an animal model of 5-fluorouracil-related oral mucositis (OM). METHODS Seventy-two male Wistar rats were randomly allocated to four groups (n = 18 each): control (no treatment), PBMT (intraoral laser, 6 J/cm2), RJ, and propolis. On days 0 and 2, the animals received an injection of 5-fluorouracil (5-FU). The buccal mucosa was scratched (days 3 and 4) and the treatments were initiated on day 5. Six animals of each group were euthanized on days 8, 10, and 14. Phytochemical analysis (thin-layer chromatography, TLC) and clinical, histopathological, and immunohistochemical analysis of pS6, pAKT, and NF-κB were performed, and oxidative stress markers were also investigated. RESULTS TLC revealed the presence of large amounts of sucrose (Rf 0.34) in RJ and of flavonoids in propolis. Lower clinical OM scores were observed on day 8, and improved morphological data were observed on day 10 in the PBMT, RJ, and propolis groups (p < 0.05). On day 8, immunoexpression of pS6, pAKT, and NF-κB was increased compared to control. On day 14, reduced glutathione (GSH) antioxidant levels were increased in the propolis group compared to control (p < 0.05). CONCLUSIONS Our results showed that RJ and propolis, as well as PBMT, are effective in the treatment of OM. Considering that some patients who develop OM do not have access to PBMT, the present study demonstrated that topical application of RJ and propolis may be an important alternative for the treatment of OM.

Abstract
The severity of tissue injury in burn wounds from associated inflammatory and immune sequelae presents a significant clinical management challenge. Among various biophysical wound management approaches, low dose biophotonics treatments, termed Photobiomodulation (PBM) therapy, has gained recent attention. One of the PBM molecular mechanisms of PBM treatments involves photoactivation of latent TGF-β1 that is capable of promoting tissue healing and regeneration. This work examined the efficacy of PBM treatments in a full-thickness burn wound healing in C57BL/6 mice. We first optimized the PBM protocol by monitoring tissue surface temperature and histology. We noted this dynamic irradiance surface temperature-monitored PBM protocol improved burn wound healing in mice with elevated TGF-β signaling (phospho-Smad2) and reduced inflammation-associated gene expression. Next, we investigated the roles of individual cell types involved in burn wound healing following PBM treatments and noted discrete effects on epithelieum, fibroblasts, and macrophage functions. These responses appear to be mediated via both TGF-β dependent and independent signaling pathways. Finally, to investigate specific contributions of TGF-β1 signaling in these PBM-burn wound healing, we utilized a chimeric TGF-β1/β3 knock-in (TGF-β1Lβ3/Lβ3) mice. PBM treatments failed to activate the chimeric TGF-β1Lβ3/Lβ3 complex and failed to improve burn wound healing in these mice. These results suggest activation of endogenous latent TGF-β1 following PBM treatments plays a key role in burn wound healing. These mechanistic insights can improve the safety and efficacy of clinical translation of PBM treatments for tissue healing and regeneration.

Abstract
PURPOSE To investigate the incidence and risk factors for oral mucositis (OM) in patients with childhood cancer undergoing chemotherapy. METHODS Eight hundred and twenty-nine cycles of chemotherapy were evaluated in 112 patients with childhood cancer undergoing chemotherapy. Chemotherapy protocol, hematological, hepatic, and renal function parameters were collected and compared to presence and severity of OM, as graded by the World Health Organization (WHO) scale. Patients received counseling on oral hygiene and those who presented with OM (grade ≥1) received photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT). RESULTS Age ranged from 0 to 17 years (mean/SD, 8.58 ± 5.05) and fifty-one patients (45.54%) were females. The most common baseline diseases were leukemia (51%) followed by sarcomas (23%) and lymphomas (18%). Eight hundred and twenty-nine cycles of chemotherapy were evaluated, and OM was diagnosed in 527 cycles (63.57%). Higher incidence and severity of OM was observed in protocols using high-dose methotrexate (MTX-HD), MTX-HD cyclophosphamide/doxorubicin combination, and MTX-HD combined with cyclophosphamide (p <0.001). Patients with severe OM had lower levels of leukocytes (p = 0.003), hemoglobin (p = 0.005), platelets (p = 0.034), and higher levels of total bilirubin (p = 0.027), alanine aminotransferase (ALT) (p = 0.001), and creatinine (p = 0.007). CONCLUSION The study contributes to the elucidation of the risk factors for OM in pediatric cancer patients. Chemotherapy protocols using MTX-HD, MTX-HD associated with doxorubicin and cyclophosphamide, and MTX-HD and cyclophosphamide a have higher incidence of severe grades of OM. Other toxicities such as hematological, hepatic, and renal also developed in patients with OM.

Abstract
PURPOSE To determine the immediate pain-relieving effect of photobiomodulation therapy (PBMt) in patients with oral ulcers of chronic graft-versus-host disease (cGVHD) refractory to first line therapy with topical corticosteroids. METHODS This retrospective study included all patients who underwent PBMt for pain relief of refractory oral cGVHD lesions. PBMt was applied using an intraoral approach to all sites with mucosal lesions, using a 940 nm InGaAsP diode laser device, with the following parameters: pulsed modulation (duty cycle of 50%), power 0.7 W, illuminated spot size 7.1 cm2, irradiance 98.6 mW/cm2, and irradiation time 90 s per point. Pain was self-assessed using a 0-to-10 scale immediately before and after PBMt. RESULTS Data from eleven patients with a total of 56 PBMt sessions were analyzed. In 48 (85.7%) sessions, the patients reported less pain immediately after treatment, with a reduction of ≥ 50% of the initial pain level in 43 (76.8%) sessions. Mean pre- and post-treatment pain levels were 5.20 ±2.7 and 1.38 ±2.1, respectively (p < 0.001), i.e., a post-treatment reduction of 73.4% of the initial pain level. The benefits of the treatment remained for a mean of 6.50 ±5.4 days (range of 2 to 14 days). No adverse effects were reported. CONCLUSIONS PBMt seems to be a promising treatment modality for refractory oral cGVHD lesions as a rapid pain reliever with relatively long-lasting effects.
